The Tedependent Masterpost
Essentially my deluded ramblings as to why I’m a Tedependent truther 😊
DISCLAIMER: I love TL and no matter what direction the writers take S3 in I will be on board! This is just a theory from some lil' details I noticed 😊Also so that if I turn out to be right I can say I told you so :o but if I’m wrong uhhhh.. you never saw this
Some various important notes before we get into it:
Firstly, I think it’s pretty likely that sexuality will come up in some form in S3. It fits in really well with the previous themes of the show (masculinity, mental health, relationships with fathers etc). TL has tackled some other issues such as the portrayal of mental health in sport but they haven’t mentioned sexuality yet despite it being a big topic (there’s only 1 out gay footballer… which is INSANE.. there’s a LOT of homophobia in football). So it makes a lot of sense for this to come up during S3. A lot of people have also theorized that Colin is gay and although I’m not going to go into that now I think it’s pretty likely and considering that Colin was one of Nate’s main “victims” (for want of a better word) it’s also likely that he’ll be more prominent in S3, perhaps even being a big part of Nate’s comeuppance. There’s also various rumours of Trent (and some say Colin too?) being seen filming at a gay nightclub in Amsterdam…
Here's an excerpt from an article interviewing Cristo Fernández, the actor who plays Dani Rojas, about the themes of season 3:
Tumblr media
Interesting stuff....
In terms of whether or not Ted will have a romantic relationship in S3 I think it’s pretty likely through the “rom-communism” speech and how generally wholesome the show is that Ted will end up in a relationship at the end- especially as it would be very satisfying for Ted to start the show in a bad relationship and end it in a healthy one. Also the teaser dropping on Valentines is very…… interesting. Despite this it could be argued that Ted has to go through more personal growth before he’s ready to be in a long term relationship and with Ted most likely leaving for Kansas at the end of S3 he might not be in a good position to get into a new relationship. This is probably one of the biggest holes in this theory- whether Ted is ready for a relationship in S3. If he is though, I can think of someone who would be a very good option…
Before we talk about Trent though (yes there still is more to address) we need to address the other main option- Rebecca. I think it’s pretty unlikely that Ted will end up with Rebecca. Firstly it’s very cliché and the writers know that people expect Ted and Rebecca to end up together. They teased it in S2 before the Sam bantr reveal which felt to me like the writers saying that they know it’s what people expect but that they’re choosing not to go that direction. Speaking of Sam, although he and Rebecca technically ended S2 not together it’s very clear that that arc is not over yet and that’s still something that has to be dealt with in S3. Ted and Rebecca’s relationship is an incredibly valuable representation of close friendships/platonic relationships between men and women, and I think the writers understand this too:
Tumblr media
To be clear, I don’t have any problem with people shipping Tedbecca! I actually think it can be quite a cute ship, I just don’t think it’s likely to happen in canon.
Now onto the fun bit! All the evidence!
I don’t think it’s in question that Trent is gay so I’m not really going to cover that here apart from saying that he leaves the pub with a man he’s seemingly on a date with an if you’re still not sold that he’s gay… just uh…. Just look at him..
First some quickfire evidence:
Ted calls Trent “baby”! s2 ep3 3 mins in! crazy stuff
S2 ep1 at about 6:20 Ted says “Trent Crimm, bringin’ that heat”- a reference to the very spicy Indian food they ate together
They speak more often than we see off-screen- we have the iconic “love our chats!” line implying that they have conversations outside of the show and Ted makes Trent’s daughter biscuits (s1 ep9 27:40), showing that he’s not only met Trent’s daughter before but is meeting her again soon to give her the biscuits
Slightly less quickfire evidence:
There’s a lot of similarities between Trent and Rebecca- this post details some of them, but there’s also similarities in lines- in s1 ep3 Ted says to Trent “watch your back Gay Talese there’s a new iconic profile about to be typed up by one Trent Crimm” then on s1 ep9 Ted says to Rebecca “watch your back Kate Moss there’s a new bad girl on the British modelling scene”. They also have very similar hair (look at the first two gifs of the above post), and the only two people Ted makes biscuits for on the show are Rebecca and Trent’s daughter. I believe this is a way of twisting the expectation that Rebecca and Ted are going to end up together to have Ted end up with someone similar, but not who people expect.
Some silly little scene analysis:
The first scene I’ll be talking about is s2, ep7, at about 31 minutes in. Before I go into depth about the details of this scene I’d suggest you rewatch it first, but I couldn’t find a clip of it on Youtube so just go to that timestamp. The first line in this scene is very strange- it’s Mae saying “If music be the food of love play on, give me excess of it”. This line seems completely pointless- it’s not really a joke, nor does it serve to further the plot or develop Mae’s character. But as I will repeat many times and cannot emphasise enough- lines in this show don’t get used lightly. This line is actually the opening line to Shakespeare’s most famous romantic comedy, Twelfth Night. And this line is used at the beginning of a scene with Ted and Trent when there’s seemingly NO REASON for it…. (I’m not going to get into the Shakespeare analysis now but if you want me to I will make a post about it :D)  We then see Trent saying goodbye to a man he’s on a date with- who has a moustache, no less. And THEN he says “of all the pub joints” which is a reference to the line “of all the gin joints” from the film Casablanca- and (mild spoilers for 3) the episode title of ep 8 is “We’ll never have Paris”, another reference to Casablanca. They end off this scene with Trent saying "Love our chats!". This line is reminiscent of when Ted asked Trent "What do you love?" in the Indian restaurant in s1 ep3, and also implies that they are closer than the show makes them seem.
Another very suspicious moment came at end of s2 ep12, which is the VERY LAST scene with Ted in the whole of S2. It’s also sandwiched in between the scenes about the other 2 major romantic relationships in the show- we get Sam and Rebecca, then Trent and Ted, then Roy and Keeley… Which in my opinion is a deliberate way of laying out these scenes to imply more about Trent and Ted’s relationship. Before I go on to talk about it here’s the clip for context: https://youtu.be/fF3A7XSk2HU (it’s pretty low quality so if you want to you can watch the clip at 44mins into s2 ep12). I think Trent waiting outside for Ted speaks for itself, but then there’s the line about the bike accident, where we learn that Trent doesn’t know how to ride a bike. Lines in this show are rarely used lightly and this is likely suggesting that we’ll get a scene of Trent learning how to ride a bike (potentially in Amsterdam?!). We then learn that Trent - and now I want you to listen closely on this part- has thrown away his entire career in journalism and his chance to ever work in journalism again by telling his boss that he revealed a source. And why did he do this? For Ted (...mostly. he has other reasons for leaving as well but...). Not only is this literally insane but by having Trent quit his job the writers have removed the only major barrier to Trent and Ted being in a relationship- whereas previously this might’ve been unethical because Trent was a journalist covering Richmond, that’s now no longer an issue. And then Trent has locked his keys in the car- which shows either how flustered he was when waiting to see Ted or could be implying that he’s here to stay.
Sorry for low quality but look at them. That is a normal way for two straight lads to look at another guy right?

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Conclusion:
Some would say that I'm mad. I'd argue that if you look at the evidence there's a solid chance that Tedtrent could happen in Season 3- the sneaky little references to Casablanca and Shakespeare as well as literally the whole of their last scene together sold me the most tbh. It's hardly debatable that Trent has a crush on Ted, but I believe (hehe) that it could be reciprocal- there's not much evidence that Ted is bisexual, (references to queen and the frequent appearance of their songs as well as the choice of NSync's song "Bye bye bye" which is frequently used on the internet to mean "Bi bi bi") but then again, there's not much evidence that he's not. I feel like I could go on and I've definitely missed some things but this post is already far too long (1.6k words) and I need to stop!
I’d be interested to hear everyone’s thoughts and opinions, and feel free to drop a comment telling me how deluded I am because in all honestly I probably am…. Or am I………….. guess we’ll find out in season 3!
If I’ve missed anything please lmk!
EDIT: ohhh my god I forgot- The scene w/ Ted and Trent at the end of s2 happens in the Richmond car park- just like Roy and Keeley in s1. And Ted met Michelle in a car park :)

Hello bee :D how's ur trip been?? Have u eaten anything especially delicious lately??
Were u able to watch the new ash vlog? I didn't think I'd end up watching it bc it's so long and my attention span has been Shit lately but ogugohig me missing ash's vlogs was definitely enough for me bc I binged that babyyy, it was so so lovely man. I feel so lucky to be able to get THAT much content man ahaha ash feeds us so well omnomomnom
Hi icy!!
The trip has been really fun so far!! I still think one of the best things I’ve eaten so far was that cheese and tomato croissant sandwich I had back in Amsterdam I think I mentioned in another ask, but since being in England I’ve had some very tasty Indian food and had some really good pizza tonight. I had the ultra British meal of fish and chips with beans and a beer from wetherspoons but tbh I knew going there that spoons food was mid, and that was definitely proven correct. It was just… eh.
(On the other hand I do get why Brits like beans on toast now though bc their beans are different from American beans!! They taste very tomato/ketchup-y and they’re not bad at all)
I just finished watching the vlog with Eli after we got back from the bar. It was so nice I missed how chill and fun ash’s vlogs are and it gave us so much good content 😊

WEEK 8: LAST HURRAH
Hi everyone! If this is your first time coming across my blog, my name is Jules, and I’ve been studying abroad in Prague for 8 weeks now. I can’t believe I’m sitting here documenting my final week in this amazing city. This international experience has truly been one of the best decisions I have ever made and has gifted me with one unforgettable summer. Now let me jump into a quick recap of my week. (Side note: sorry this blog post is delayed; I will get into the treacherous reason why in my next blog.)
After coming home from Amsterdam, I immediately locked in to study for my Linear Algebra final. It ended up going super smoothly, and I am very satisfied with my overall grade and performance in this course. All the math classes in my program collectively took a field trip to Prague’s Technical Museum on Tuesday. It was interesting to see the impact of engineering on this country’s technology and industry through the development of automobiles, aircrafts, bicycles, and ships. I am so grateful to have taken this course in such a dynamic environment with equally amazing professors and classmates!
Before leaving our host country, my friends and I had to squeeze in our last family dinners. On Tuesday night, a huge group of us grabbed dinner at a traditional Czech restaurant that was actually recommended to us by Petra (our professor from Art & Architecture in the Golden City), which I thought was a very fitting last meal. One of the things that I loved most about this study abroad experience was the friendships I have built. Thinking about going back to school and seeing them around campus makes me so excited. The following night on Wednesday, my apartment had our last dinner together at a pizza restaurant right down the street. I’m going to miss living with them so much!! And after dinner, we of course had to end things off the Prague way by going out together one last time. Shoutout to my absolute favorite, Dog Bar, for giving me and my friends some of the most unforgettable nights here.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Last dinners. && Final group pics.
On Thursday night after a full day of packing up, my mom and my sister arrived!! I spent the next few days showing them around my beautiful host country and giving them a taste of my life here for the past 8 weeks. Now, we’re headed to Paris, London, and Genoa to end off my unbelievably long summer traveling and living from suitcase to suitcase!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fam's arrival! && Last views of Prague.
To reminisce a little, here are some top things I’m going to miss about Prague (the little details):
The sun rising at 4:30 AM and setting at 9:30 PM.
The dogs running around politely leashless next to their owners.
The $3 high quality cups of coffees.
The public transportation speakers announcing the stop “I.P. Pavlova”.
The Thai red curry and pad thai at the restaurant below our apartment (shoutout to Madame Lyn Restaurant).
The zig zagged walk from my apartment to the CEA CAPA center.
The feeling of coming back “home” after a weekend away in a different country.
I want to leave you guys with a couple recommendations I have for anyone who is looking into studying abroad in Prague or just traveling here. Feel free to reach out for a more extensive list!
Restaurants:
Venue (brunch)
Sweet and Pepper Days (brunch)
Pod Vysehradem (Czech)
U Tri Jelinku (Czech)
Bricks (Italian)
Trattoria Cicala (Italian)
Madame Lyn (Thai/Vietnamese)
Hanoi Square Restaurant (Vietnamese)
Masala Vodickova (Indian)
Big Smokers (barbecue)
Manifesto Market (food market)
Angelato Ujezd (gelato)
Cafe Du (great study spot)
Going out:
Karlovy Lazne, Epic, Duplex (three biggest clubs here)
Riegrovy Sady, Zahradni Letensky (beer gardens)
Dog Bar!!!!
Anonymous Shrinks Office (speakeasy vibe)
I’m feeling so bittersweet leaving my summer home, but every good thing must always come to an end. Prague and this entire experience will always hold a special place in my heart. Thank you guys for following my study abroad journey and travel adventures!! I have loved being able to document my weeks in Europe. My last and final blog will be up next week covering a reflection of my study abroad experience and a recap of my time in Paris, London, and Genoa!

Intermissions were originally because (like DVDs back in the day kids), cinema reels could only manage so much run time and had to be changed (in very early cinema, they had as many as four intermissions to change reels..!). Even as tech improved, in the 50s the 3D stereoscope reels needed a break to be switched out as well. And that's leaving aside the other big plus of intervals that theatres rely on - it's an opportunity to bump profits by selling more food and drink. Afaik, most UK cinemas at least make more profit from that already rather than ticket sales even without intermissions, so it's no small thing to consider bringing them back with longer films taking up more screens as it is.
And intermissions are making a comeback in some cinemas this year specifically - the unexpected success of Oppenheimer and Killers of the Flower Moon have meant that Vue have been trialling intermissions in some of their UK branches for longer screenings, and apparently have had good feedback.
Indian cinema has famously always had intermissions and that's never stopped being a thing! Most Indian films shown in UK cinemas include the intermission as well, and that isn't going anywhere.
(I say this having dithered over booking London Film Festival stuff recently because they were four hours long, with no interval. Steve McQueen's documentary Occupied City - about the legacy of nazi occupation on Amsterdam - I couldn't fit in. But I did indeed rock up for a four hour screening of Menu Plaisirs - Les Troisgrois, in which a 93 year old director spends several months embedded at a historical family run French Michelin restaurant. It's niche to begin with! You could hear people psyching themselves up as they went in (some of them had obviously seen the 3.5 hour KOTFM the previous day) and honestly it was quite entertaining seeing who out of the sold out audience started leaving after the two hour mark. It's super slow and gentle and immersive and it's... Just interesting. You learn stuff. You can absolutely pop out halfway through to visit the bar and the loo and not really miss anything. I think a themed intermission where they make an event of it and serve relevant food & wine would make for an awesome event, but otherwise I just took note of the runtime and stocked up on quiet snacks before I went in and it was fine).
Unpopular theatre opinion: intermissions are bad and I wish we could just have a 2.5 hour performance uninterrupted, like people manage perfectly well at movie theaters. It always just kills my emotional immersion. Set changes and costume changes valid, but the art form could adapt in other ways. Or making the intermission experience somehow also part of the performance? Just something more interesting and intentional than dumping people out into the lobby to buy m&ms.

Adventures in Amsterdam
Over the past three days, I've been traversing around Amsterdam and the Netherlands before heading over to Belgium for a 15 day beer excursion. Amsterdam in an interesting city. This is my second time visiting in a year, which is not something I was expecting, but then I never expected to ever visit Amsterdam, so there you go.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
One thing I really enjoy about traveling in Europe is how easily it is to get around. Flying into Amsterdam Schiphol airport, it's an easy train ride to Amsterdam Centraal Station where it's an quick walk to any of the thousands of hotels around the city. My favorite area to stay in Amsterdam is in the canal district. You're in the heart of the city and its really easy to find any kind of food or drink you could want.
During our first visit to Amsterdam, my husband and I did not get to take advantage of the wide food options available. Honestly, there's so many choices, it's a little overwhelming to choose. So on this trip we really wanted to sample more of the food. Being foodies who enjoys trying new things from different regions, our first priority was to find some good Dutch cuisine.
Before this trip, aside from fries or frites, I didn't know a whole lot about Dutch cuisine. Just wandering around the city, you see restaurants offering all types of fare from your standard Italian, British, and American foods, but also Chinese, Thai, Indian, Argentinian, and a lot more. I saw more places offering food from other countries than I saw places advertising traditional Dutch cuisine, but that doesn't mean traditional Dutch food isn't a thing. You just have to go looking for it.
A quick Google search introduced is to Moeders, which is Dutch for Mother, and based on many of the reviews I read had what many considered to be some of the best traditional Dutch food in Amsterdam.
Tumblr media
When you go into Moeders, the first thing you will see is that seemingly every square inch of wall space is covered with framed pictures of mother from pretty much everywhere. This place is all about traditional Dutch food, and when it comes to traditional home cooked meals you typically think of Mom.
For this meal, we opted to share a Dutch Ricedish, which was a combination of several traditional dishes served family style. We had roasted fingerling potatoes, beef stew with onions, smashed potatoes with onions, bacon, and sausage, smashed potatoes, beef stew with mustard, red cabbage, and applesauce. Everything was really tasty, I especially enjoyed the potatoes with the sausage, onions, and bacon as well as the beef stew with onions.
Good food isn't the only thing we were after. Since the whole reason we were traveling to begin with was for beer, it seems only fitting that we try and track down places to drink some good beer. Beer making isn't something the Netherlands are as well known for as they are for their cheeses, wooden shoes, and tulips. But there was quite a bit of good beer to be had.
Tumblr media
No trip to Amsterdam would be complete without a stroll through the infamous Red Light District... at least once. The last time we came to Amsterdam, we ended up getting tattoos with a couple of our friends to commemorate our trip and all the beers we would enjoy, not to mention the beers we'd already enjoyed. One thing that can be said about the Red Light District, it's not that hard to find yourself stumbling out of it, tired, sore, and short a lot of cash. In this instance it was due to the tattoos, but thats not to say it has to be the only reason.
Aside from the novelty of the experience, the Red Light District not all that exciting. Yes, there are women who have put themselves on display in windows for sex, which is thrilling at first but looses the thrill pretty quickly. Especially when you recall that human trafficking is a real issue, and while some of the women are in the windows by choice, some of them may not have any choices at all.
All in all, the Red Light District honestly reminds me a lot of Bourbon Street in New Orleans -- dirty, crowded, and smells vaguely of pee. If you want to experience Amsterdam night life, there are plenty of other areas with bars, music, and atmosphere that are just as enjoyable.
Tumblr media
Amsterdam is a fun city, and this time around I feel like we got to do a little bit more, had some good food, saw some interesting sights. Took our lives into our own hands dodging the thousands of cyclists peddling like mad through the city -- bike culture is huge in this city. The canals are lovely to walk along, and I highly recommend any of the hundreds of canal tours offered throughout the city, it's a great way to see the city.
The less fun things about Amsterdam... you could actually get run over by a cyclist, or car, while walking around the city. The streets are crowded, and the cars and bikes give zero F__ks about pedestrian right of way, so you have to be really careful. About 19 million tourists flock to Amsterdam, and speaking as a tourist... tourists suck! Trying to navigate around on narrow streets that seem built with walking as an after thought, while dodging cars and bikes, is especially annoying when groups of tourists take up an entire pathway, walking slowly, stopping randomly, or otherwise being terribly obnoxious.
Since legal recreational weed is becoming more of a thing in the United States, the weed culture that Amsterdam is famous for is less exciting. If you come to the Netherlands, a day or two is all you need to spend in Amsterdam, then go on and avail yourself to the numerous other sites and activities away from the city. There are plenty of day trips and excursions to check out.
