Team Dark Day 3 - wandering around in the woods before the sun rises is always oddly tranquil (even more so if you aren't worried about getting jumped by a mountain lion)
-and for those wondering what Shadow's wearing there:

I know there have been so many binary brothers fics taking place after the LaRusso Christmas party to try to smooth over the issues with the writing in regards to Hawk finally switching sides, but it just hit me that they didn’t need a right after scene, they needed a before scene.
Like, picture last day of school before Christmas break, Demetri leaves a gift in Eli’s locker (he obviously knows his combination). I imagine it’s something small but, like, a tradition. Like, maybe they always give each other a new miniature or a Lego figurine, or whatever. Doesn’t really matter outside of symbolism and Hawk knowing it’s from Demetri.
Anyway, it’d piss Hawk off so he’d hunt Demetri down somewhere alone to confront him.
And basically imagine Demetri saying he’d gotten the gift a long time ago, and he doesn’t want to keep it. He figured this would be his closure to their friendship being over. Because despite the fact that he doesn’t want it to be, it obviously is.
And there’s a whole ass argument that they’d need to have, but I figure the whole thing would end with Eli having pointed out that Demetri was a dick to him, too, and Demetri not really taking responsibility for that because Eli was in a literal cult.
But just as Demetri’s walking away, I’d have him pause and then turn around.
“Look, if I wasn’t supportive enough or whatever, I’m sorry. This isn’t what I wanted. I’m sorry for embarrassing you and everything else. I’m sorry for all of it.”
And Hawk would just be stone faced and looking in the other direction, so Demetri would sigh and walk away.
But then later at the fight when he says those same words back, suddenly they have a lot more weight and it makes sense that Eli would run to Demetri’s defense.

I can’t stop thinking about that scene in the library where Day drops the CDs and Mhok just watches him because it perfectly encapsulates why Day chooses Mhok out of everyone else to be his caretaker.
It’s not about the fact that Mhok treats him normally because everyone’s normal is different. For me, if I see someone drop something and struggle to pick it up, I jump in and help regardless of the reason it was dropped. Because that’s the kind of person I am. That’s normal for me, but it’s not normal for Mhok.
The reason Mhok is chosen is because he treats Day as capable. He knows Day can walk to him to get his library card. He knows Day can pick up the CDs. He doesn’t ignore Day’s disability but he doesn’t treat him like he’s limited by it (at least at first I’m sure this will change as he takes care of Day).
When Mhok crashed showed up for the initial interview, Day made a snarky comment about the reason they were hiring someone was because he can’t even manage to eat on his own without injuring himself. Day is tired and he’s angry and he used to be an athlete and now he can’t even feed himself without his mother worrying.
Day is angry about his situation but behind that and buried very deep is fear that this is his life forever. That he will never see again and he will need to rely on people for the rest of his life. Then Mhok comes along and he’s also angry. Mhok’s pain and grief isn’t something that can ever be cured but it can be healed. And their anger speaks to each other. Mhok sees the anger and fear and pain in Day and understands and sees his own anger and pain reflected back.
Also no one treats Mhok like he’s capable despite his skill set because of his past. He was in jail? Oh well I guess suddenly he doesn’t know how to be a mechanic anymore. Mhok and Day need each other because they treat each other as more than what society sees them as and they treat each other like they’re capable of more than the shit hands they’ve been dealt.

currently craving some S1E2 canon divergence where Stede captures Izzy when he's trying to get his hostages back-
It doesnt really go much differently than it did, only when Stede's holding the knife to Izzy's cheek, he decides to take it seriously- maybe its that Stede is an unknown, a threat he hasnt quantified yet (he didnt flinch when he told him who he was, after all, even if he did ground his ship), maybe he simply doesnt want the fuss today, knowing he could escape from their ship with much less fuss than an all out fight will be, maybe, maybe, hes just tired too. With Ed in a slump all the work falls on him, and managing the ship and his captain takes its toll.
So, he surrenders to Stede, sends Ivan & Fang away to inform Ed of the situation, and goes back to The Revenge. He'll somehow end up helping them right the ship despite the fact he's technically their prisoner, and find that they dont actually have a brig, instead left in a small cabin that they hastily attach a bolt to the outside of.
As the door bolts (really, its a terrible job, he could have it out with one push) he yells through about how they'll regret this when his Captain comes for him, but somewhere in the back of his mind, he doubts.
Is he still worth that effort to Ed? Would he even be able to make himself care?
