Death Note as Bubble Tea

i was going to gong cha yesterday and i wanted to try a new flavour, and it got me thinking about death note. i’m more familiar with milk tea and gong cha, so that’s what this post will be about.

note: for toppings, everyone gets regular black pearls except for the wammy house kids. inspired by the gong cha that I went to running out of black pearls. i’m not familiar with many of the toppings, so i’m not going to include them in my hc. for sugar and ice levels, wammy kids don’t change them, light goes sugar free with little ice, misa has little sugar and no ice, mikami takes his with half sugar and less ice, and takada asks for less sugar, and standard ice. everyone would order a large, except for light and mikami.

Light Yagami: Royal Pearl Milk Tea

Light is a basic bitch who went with the top ten; it was safe, what can he say? It tastes a lot like tea, so he just kept on choosing that as his drink.

Misa Amane: Brown Sugar Milk Tea with Brown Sugar Pearls

It looks amazing, and it has less calories in comparison to the other drinks. Misa came for the aesthetic, and stayed for the taste.

Teru Mikami: Taro Milk Tea

Not going to lie, my original choice was taro coconut milk tea, but I thought that Mikami should go with taro and Takada double coconut to show how both of them are similar to one another, and their friendly acquaintanceship. I think that Mikami is another basic bitch, so he also picked something from the top ten.

Kiyomi Takada: Double Coconut Milk Tea

I headcanon Takada to be a beach person, so coconut flavoured everything is right up her alley. My og choice for her was oolong milk tea, just because she looked like a tea person (coffee too).

L Lawliet: Earl Grey Milk Tea with 3J

It reminds him of his time in England, not to mention that it has pudding and grass jelly; mixing his ‘love of tea’ and his love for sweets together. Another basic bitch who chose from the top 10 list.

Mello (Mihael Keehl): Strawberry Au Lait

It’s sweet as hell, and he wants it that way. Even if everyone is side eyeing him.

Near (Nate River): Cookie Choco Milk Tea

I found it hard to choose for Near, but I went with this one because 1) it’s sweet (a rule for wammy kids) and 2) because it’s brown and dark brown, like different morality shades.

Gong Cha Collaboration

The drinks are on the Seasonal Menu; there's 3 of them.

You have to get 3 drinks on 1 order, but not all of them have to be the promo drinks! I got 2 promo drinks and my roommate a regular creme brulee brown sugar latte.

You can choose a scratch card for the mount code, or one of the keychain charms.

My local store only had 2 of the 3 keychain colors. There's also some kind of liquid inside the little pretend cups.

If you want everything, you're buying a lot of milk tea over the next couple weeks.

I'm sure at some point in your life, there's a chance that you've gone through a milk tea obsession of boba craze of sorts.

Naturally, I did too!

For skeptics, I understand. Milk tea is an acquired taste.

But once you have acquired, that's it. Game over. lol

Anyway. Among the milk teas I've tried, my favorite is probably Gong Cha because the tapioca pearls are so soft, and the milk tea itself is not that sweet (even at 100% sweetness)!

i had to make the grave decision of choosing between the in-game mount and the keychain and i chose the keychain for the reason that i wanted it much more (and the possibility that the mount would be a twitch promo or a mogstation store like the pizza emote since this event kinda sucks) pretty disappointing cuz for japan and korea all you have to do is follow the LINE account and you get all the keychains plus the code with only 3 drinks, not having to choose apparently they only had the fat cat cups too at the one i went to but thats okay it was "nearby" but it was like takeout only and it was in a really inconvinient location that was pretty far i had to take this picture really quick cuz i didnt want the drinks to melt too much if you wanna know my 3 drinks were peach milk tea latte(not shown), mango milk tea(the one renko has), and the ffxiv fat cat purrfect latte(the one merry has)

first of all tbh i like pretty simple flavors and when paired w boba, i dont rly like fruity drinks. so tied for first place are my two things that i always order if idk what to get and its jasmine green tea w boba and classic black milk tea w boba :) if its good these ALWAYS HIT!!!!!!!!!!!!

btw i miss japanese gong cha milk tea so bad its not the same in the US :(

Last series: I'm in the middle of Fate/Zero season 1 as part of a trade with a friend (if I watched Fate Zero ep 1 he'd watch Chainsaw Man ep 1.) Recently finished Chainsaw Man. I guess the Down The Rabbit Hole video essay series counts as a series - I'm in the middle of that since I tend to put video essays in the background while I draw. It's great. The Deep Blue one was terrific and I love how Fredrik speaks about cat cafe drama with the exact same tone as he does Austrian wine poisoning.

Sweet, savoury or spicy: Spicy and savoury supremacy. I really like Korean food.

Craving: Milk tea. Going on a walk in a few hours to go to a really good milk tea place nearby.

Tea or coffee: (Milk) Tea supremacy. I love tea. I enjoy coffee but don't enjoy the caffeine, so tea is generally more bearable, less sweet, more refreshing and also have I mentioned I love it? I put matcha powder in my overnight oats. I spent a good chunk of the early pandemic experimenting with making milk tea at home. In my second year of college did a science project comparing various milk tea shops near campus. I have a whole personal rating system for milk/boba tea to determine quality/authenticity (if they have those metal tea dispensers, custom sugar levels, and lets you choose between tea types like oolong, assam, hokkaido, etc. instead of just flavors like red velvet, taro, oreo, or whatever - good chance they use actual tea and milk instead of powder mixes). My current favorite is Gong Cha's 0% sugar earl grey milk tea. I don't think I've fallen that deeply into tea snobbery but when it comes to milk tea I'm a bit of a... tealitist :^)
