I cut my lip on the hard edge of
morning, my heart's walls
are too thin, for the
rustle of you in
my sheets.
Is this
love?
My
toes
on the
very edge of
maybes and forever,
my heartstrings too tight,
and a pair of scissors in my hand-

Wayfaring Hearts
I only had Grace, hated this place,
But meeting you set my head spinning,
Gun in my face, a bullet graze,
We were star-crossed from the beginning.
Tumblr media
All of their lies, I locked up inside,
I was a soldier in need of a war.
With you at my side, your star as my guide,
I learned I could be something more.
Tumblr media
Taking a risk, with all of life's twists,
You faced hell just to save more lives.
With gun and fists, I guarded your six,
And thanked the stars that you somehow survived.
Tumblr media
Struck by a reef, of loss and grief,
I let the fates take both mast and spar.
I wanted relief, some inner peace,
Only to realize I needed your star.
Tumblr media
Blood, sweat, and tears; laughter and beers,
I thought we had forged a family,
But after all these years, you disappeared.
Guess love wasn't in the stars for me.
Tumblr media
I'm alright, I'm doing fine.
Ever since your star crossed mine--
I always knew it would end.
Your star saved me again and again--
We could never be something more--
Wait, why are you standing at my door?
Tumblr media
I want to make up for lost time, hitch your star to mine,
Cuz your love led me back to the shore.

note 1: These awesome, wonderful, incredible gifs were all made by the amazingly talented @somethingincrediblyright
note 2: The traditional Polynesian science of star navigating is often called wayfaring.
note 3: I had something completely different planned for Danny's b-day, but somehow this happened instead.

@sepezzz reminds of a poem I wrote about cat-sitting:
You asked me to check on your cat,
left me your keys, a note on the fridge,
canned cat food lined up the counter. Me
and your cat, we ignored the note, stayed
up late, watching infomercials instead. I
let him bum a smoke. We took turns,
putting down your music, talking about
how you are completely helpless in the
kitchen. Halfway through the second
beer, your cat admitted he already
missed your laugh. I admitted I did, too.
When he asked, I let him have my last
cigarette.
Tumblr media
This is from when I went on a 1 month trip and missed my cat so much that I ended up drawing him as a stout new Yorker from the 30s to cope

As I read between your lines and knew you, I surrendered to what I found there.

Ate her cherry flavored kisses for breakfast
as the tension lasted longer than my patience.
she felt like a cigarettes after sex song,
the way her eyes harboured a cosmic sentience.
her hands swayed according to the flow of the conversation,
while her smile shimmered through,
hypnotising me for a drawn-out duration.

Lovers should spark, flint and iron,
arcing across each other's skin like
flashes of summer lightening, but
our hearts are only thin wisps of
smoke and barely beating ember,
choked thick by ash and regret.
Yesterday, a friend said,
'I'll pray for you." I said, "No.
Just send matches."

no, but I brought a wisp-white August
cloud, gathered close with the drunken
laughter of friends on a hot porch night,
and tied tight to the long end of a summer
shadow. Come, bide with me through winter’s
dark evening, and when the spring melt begins to
sing, then me and you will net the returning light—
together.

@nosebleedclub ❤️ for the prompt!
Did you bring the light?

the shape of the moon
the whisper of a breeze echoes through the house we’ll never live in
it kicks up dust  from your unused wicker chair and rustles the dead flowers on the windowsill
outside the overgrown garden aches to be frolicked in  our bones feed the flowers
wild the way you wanted to be growing free as our house rots a perfect sphere shining in the moonlight
the moon put the wind in your bones so you could visit once more without considering how hard it would be to leave again
easy for her to say she ebbs and flows but we’re only buried once
we fall apart  slowly, slowly.

China cup nest
Teeny tiny china cup nest
Hurricane gust blow the bough
Her chicks are nestled deep in the tiny cup
Boom Thunder so loud it breaks the sound barrier
The vibration reaches down to the depths of my soul
Like a faucet on full blast the rain is drenching everything in sight
Suddenly the sun pushes the clouds away
And brings us a colorful rainbow
The hummingbird and her chicks survive, at-least for today
How can something so fragile be so strong

Wild geese wings fold the crisp dawn
like a love letter,
but my heart lacks stamps. And you.
if you are reading this, comment with a haiku, then read the comments (in that order)

Who’s Who
I know I am more than a mother - or lover -
More than just a homemaker, here waiting to cater -
More than the number that punches the clock -
More than you asked for and it comes as no shock.
I am a louse, running wild through the hairs of your head,
The wet spot you cover as you lay down for bed.
A snake in the cupboard - hiding inside the pots,
A flesh-eating cancer - who’s brought you to rot.
I am a dream trapped inside bone and flesh -
This reality is trite and my fantasies never rest.
I am a settler and it’s starting to show -
How much I abhor it -
How bitterness grows.

The storm has returned
Stripped my epidermis and celebrated the rot
Sold the ego that was pulling me together
Tied each and every member in a knot
Told me to throw everything up
And here I am once again, apart.

Late at night, the Akron
fault rumbles. Ohio's
cracked heart, full of
rain and sorrow.
Lake Erie it’s own self
dumps its tears
on Cleveland’s shores

Comes over me so swiftly
I haven't time to think.
I know I swore It off
but I really need a drink.
These decisions that I'm making
they ain't making any sense
but my hands start to shaking
when i speak of you in past tense
theres no one here to talk to
when im sitting all alone
I'd rather smash this bottle
and pick up a phone
but we need no melodrama
no audience to critique
when we both were born of trauma
Lovers sharing a karmic link
As im drowning in these feelings
I can feel you in my bones
Hell may not heal me
but even Hades needs a home.

Poet,
Let me write you a poem. So many pour from your heart for the river of my eyes. Let me tell you how you cradle my heart, how you bless my eyes with beauty so sublime tears come to my eyes. Poet of mine, let me embrace you and your art with the eternity I am and where you will resonate for all time.
