@illumi-nati-png also correctly suggested aziraphale saying "friends? we are not friends, crowley!" in good omens
jaskier's "what, are we not using friend? oh sure, let's give it another decade!" vs hob gadling's "i'll tell you what - i'll be here in 100 years' time, and if you're here too, it'll be because we're friends!"

Just wanted to share some thoughts in case others are feeling this way:
Good Omens has been my favorite book for years. It's one of the things now that keeps me holding on when everything around in the world is going to shit. It's helped me more than I can put into words. But right now, it feels it's been tainted by what's happened, and it hurts. Until we know the truth it's going to hurt.
But this fandom is still here. This wonderful, wholesome fandom, making our own work, making content, AUs and metas, fanart and writing. Don't let this stop you! We're still here for each other! Good Omens is so much more now than its original form, and that is thanks to the fans for sure.
No matter what happens, please stay safe, and be smart about posting on the subject.

you know what i think really gets me as a good omens fan who also grew up catholic? the very human approach it takes to morality.
i can’t speak for every denomination of christianity, but i can speak to catholicism. i grew up in the church, i went to catholic school, i was confirmed for fuck’s sake. i know the catholic church. the ways in which it eats away at your self esteem. the ways in which it makes you feel like you are a terrible person because you’ve sinned in one way or another. the way you’re taught the concept of original sin as though it isn’t deeply unsettling to believe that all humans are born corrupt. you’re taught that you were born tainted by satan, you as a baby you as a child you who doesn’t even know your place in this world yet. you are sinful because you are human.
there is no room for shades of grey in catholicism. you have either sinned or you haven’t. you are either good or you are bad. you are either going to heaven or you are cursed to damnation. (yeah yeah purgatory and all that but if i’m being honest the diocese i was a part of never really talked about it)
we all know the church is corrupt. every catholic knows that, but whether or not we ever admitted it to ourselves and accepted it as truth is another story. you cannot deny the staggering statistics regarding catholic priests assaulting and molesting children. you cannot deny the financial corruption that has been present in the institution for centuries. but you can ignore it. you can ignore it and pretend like the church is perfect and good because if you allow yourself to admit it’s issues, you admit that maybe your entire world view is flawed. that maybe the idea of morality as being black and white is wrong.
that's what i grew up with. with these contradictory beliefs. these adults in power telling me i was inherently sinful because i was human while also being told that God loves me. that God will save me from myself. so i grew up thinking someone else could fix me. because if i was inherently bad i couldn't fix myself.
but of course, the truth is, i don't need fixing. i'm not broken or bad. i'm human.
when aziraphale described adam as "human incarnate" i got EXTREMELY emotional. because to be human incarnate is to be not good or bad. it's to just be. be whoever it is you are. make the best choices you can. will they all be perfect? of course not. but will you be trying your damndest? yes.
good omens is a breath of fresh air for me and my religious trauma because the thesis of the story is that black and white thinking is unproductive at best and actively harmful at worst. you cannot live a fulfilling life while also believing there is only Bad and Good, and that Bad and Good are inherent.
good omens is a comfort because it reminds me in more ways than one that i'm worthy of love. i'm worthy of life. i don't have to be perfect, far from it. i'm allowed to be messy and make mistakes, but none of that means i don't deserve to be here. none of that means i'm a Bad Person. i'm just, A Person.
i'm trying. i've always tried. tried to love the best i can, tried to be the best person i can be, tried to live my life to the fullest, tried to cultivate joy for myself.
my brain is a mess. and 15 years, give or take, of being fully immersed in the catholic church (including 7 years of catholic school) definitely didn't help. i am still riddled with catholic guilt and toxic mental frameworks because of the time i spent in the church.
but good omens helps me work through it just that little bit more. it's there in its corner of my heart saying "hey. you're human. you're not Bad or Good, you're You. and you're trying."
it's... comforting. yeah, i think that's the right word.

Let’s talk about Pre-Fall Crowley’s choir.
Tumblr media
I’m still learning, so if someone more expert than me has a correction, be my guest.
There are, by my awareness, nine choir of angels. A helpful list is below.
Tumblr media
Muriel claims that they are of a lower rank, and hence cannot open the logbook.
Tumblr media
"You'd have to be a throne, or a dominion, or above."
And once Crowley manages the book open, at the nonchalant claim of an unchanging password, it stuns Muriel.
This, to even an untrained eye, is intentional. They want us to know which two options could fit Crowley, seeing as evidently he is, or was, quite powerful.
So let's talk about that.
First Argument: Throne
Tumblr media
The description of a Throne angel is:
"The 'thrones'; also known as 'ophanim' (offanim) and 'galgallin', are creatures that function as the actual chariots of God driven by the cherubs. They are characterized by peace and submission; God rests upon them. Thrones are depicted as great wheels containing many eyes, and reside in the area of the cosmos where material form begins to take shape. They chant glorias to God and remain forever in his presence. They mete out divine justice and maintain the cosmic harmony of all universal laws." [Wikipedia]
So we can break that down.
Thrones are supposedly submissive, and peaceful angels. They are the chariots, or literally, thrones, of God. Being in the First Triad, with direct contact to God, they contemplate Her/His power and judgement.
Sound familiar?
Tumblr media
Let's lay out a few of the reasons Crowley could have been a Throne.
"Submissive" angels. If he had foregone that demand, and questioned God by unintentionally challenging Her decisions, he would have been an unworthy angel.
Tumblr media
2. He would have had direct contact to God, and therefore could have asked Her himself. That would have been inexcusable, and perhaps a seeming abuse of power.
Tumblr media
3. To contemplate Her power and judgement, he could have truly and utterly contemplated. Been too good at his job, and disagreed with a "flaw" in the plan.
All evidence points to Throne, right?
Second Argument: Dominion
Tumblr media
Now, the definition of Dominion angels is:
"Dominions are a group of angels in Christianity who help keep the world in proper order. Dominion angels are known for delivering God's justice into unjust situations, showing mercy toward human beings, and helping angels in lower ranks stay organized and perform their work well." [LearnReligions]
Right, not a huge eye-catcher, there. Doesn't sound like what we've seen of Angel Crowley.
But wait.
"The Dominions (lat. dominatio, plural dominationes, also translated from the Greek term kyriotētes, pl. of kyriotēs, as "Lordships"). Traditionally, they are held to govern the movement of stars, planets, and other celestial objects." [Wikipedia]
Oh.
Now that sounds more likely.
Tumblr media
So, our reasons here are:
Being in the Second Triad, they fulfill God's plan, and directly govern the procession of it.
Tumblr media
2. They, quite literally, rule the stars, planets, and celestial objects. What more evidence do you need?
Tumblr media
3. They're known for delivering justness into unjust situations...
Tumblr media
In summary, there are many different options for what Crowley's hierarchical position once was. The two most blatant, and likely, were not being an Archangel (in my opinion), but rather either Dominion, or Throne.
That being said, I am unsure which one he was. There is more obviousness in seeing that he made the stars, and saying he was a Dominion. But, then again, there is more logic and reason in imagining he was a Throne.
What do I think? Hard to say. I'd imagine, considering the blatancy of the plot, that Crowley was a Dominion, but in theory, I wouldn't be surprised if he was a Throne. Honestly, while writing this, I started thinking he might have been a Throne.
Please, do share your thoughts and theories!

Thank You <3
Hello mutuals and other lovely folks out in the void of tumblr <3 I'm posting this just to say I'm going to be away from tumblr for a little while with my usual activity. I lost my grandfather last night and I'm absolutely devastated. He was a literal angel on Earth, the kindest man to his family and friends and complete strangers. He was a father to me my whole life and my best bud. I can only hope and pray that there's a heaven so that I can know he's there with his family and finally at peace.
I need to thank this fandom and everyone who's been sharing my posts and sharing their thoughts and ideas about GO because it's really been a lifeline for me these past few months. It's been so hard, with everything going on in the world on top of him getting sick and how I've seen it affect my family. I know he's a book character but I asked Aziraphale last night to take care of my Pépère now for me. On so many levels, for so many reasons, thank you.
I'll be back to tumblr eventually, I just have to help my family get through this upcoming week. I wish everyone a healthy, peaceful day. Be nice to yourselves and your loved ones. Hug them too, and tell them you love them. It really means so much.

If you haven’t watched Danny Motta react to seeing Good omens for the first time, I HIGHLY recommend it! The last episode, which obviously includes his reaction to the Final Fifteen, was posted today. I laughed a lot at each episode. Also the schadenfreude was real for me, particularly because he does this for a living. 😅😓 And my heart broke again, as usual 😭💔
@queermarzipan was live-blogging them hilariously, at least until their classes started 😊😘😂 Here’s that link
The first link⬇️ is to the whole series playlist and the second is just to the last episode. Note: he goes in knowing basically nothing about Good Omens and he doesn’t know about the season 3 situation. Danny does mention NG a couple videos in because he learned about the victims coming forward and wanted to make his position clear.
