Headcanons: GOM + Kagami’s music tastes

Kuroko

• definitely into lo-fi music

• also quite familiar with j-pop

• not too picky about what he listens to

Kise

• very into pop music

• probably a dua lipa stan

• mainly listens to tiktok songs

• will probably know any song you put on at karaoke

Midorima

• lots of Japanese music

• usually just listens to whatever pops up on shuffle

• has a pre-match playlist though which consists of instrumentals of his favourite songs to help him focus

Aomine

• definitely into depressing rap

• think Juice WRLD, twenty one pilots, Kid LAROI

• if you got him drunk enough and played Taylor Swift, he’d definitely know all the lyrics even though he claims to “never listen to her”

Murasakibara

• no one understands his music taste

• very obscure indie or rock bands for sure

• he likes finding new music

• anything that’s instrument-heavy, he’s into

• probably doesn’t know who Ariana Grande or Justin Bieber is

Akashi

• quite a broad music taste actually

• mainly enjoys classical music

• but also enjoys pop and indie music too

• can identify any Naruto opening from the first note

• also listens to a lot of hardstyle music when he’s at the gym to hype him up

• Kuroko hates Kagami’s music taste because it’s too loud

So, I will be starting on the drafts for the shipping polls. Might take a few days, I will have to look up photos. Four Choices will be:

1.) Yes, I like this ship

2.) No, I do not like this ship

3.) I see them as Platonic

4.) I don't have any feelings for this ship/I have never thought about this/results

Some notes:

I have been watching on the official North Korean Youtube channel. In Operation: White Snow, the hedgehog scout is repeatedly referred to as Number 11, so I am assuming that he is a different character than the regular Scout Goseumdochi.

I am pretty sure we all agree that we do not ship Bamsaegi, Undochi, and S2 Mulori with the older characters (and I am assuming they are young adults in the show so it is ok to ship them together).

I have seen multiple people say that they do not see Flower Hill as monogamous, so liking one ship does not discount liking another. The first option in the poll could also include ideas of feeling like they may have had something in the past, but it is platonic now. I might make a multi ship poll later.

I cannot think of any ships involving Dr Dudeoji.

I also cannot think of any ships involving Uncle Gom, given how he thinks of the residents of Flower Hill as too small and weak.

-a/n: i'm kind of having a block right now so i hope this was to your liking! thanks for the request love, akashi surely is a sweet heart!

What a special day it was today for it was your beloved's birthday. Akashi was sleeping soundly beside you while you were awake. His beautiful skin looked ethereal, his handsome face still glowed even though there was no sun yet, it was just early morning after all.

Akashi seemed tired enough yesterday when he came home from work, he probably forgot that it was his birthday today seemingly because Akashi never forgets his birthday. He probably had loads of workloads since it was the closing for Christmas.

As you looked at him, he really seemed tired. Akashi was a light sleeper, it was no secret to you but on tough days like yesterday, he sleeps peacefully like a child.

This sight was something you could use to be seeing everyday. Your husband, really was handsome. Although, you wanted to admire more of him, you remembered why you woke up this early. So you slipped out of bed carefully, trying not to wake him up and succeeded. You peeked below at the window and you could see the generation of miracles and Momoi together.

They seemed tired. You were guilty but you wanted to throw something special for your beloved. You chuckled seeing their expressions. It would be quite embarrassing if you told them their expressions on their faces but it was quite understandable. Who in the right mind would even be up this early? Probably grandma's and grandpa's.

Aomine, had his usual annoyed expression, he was wearing clothes that were exactly for Christmas, the padded and layered coat navy coat looked rather ravishing on him, a beanie on top of his head, Kise had no smiles, seeminglessly tired from the flight he had awhile ago but no pilot uniform was to be seen, he was wearing this beautiful white, fluffy coat, along with some red scarf and a beanie, his hands on his pockets. Murasikabara was chewing on some pancake, probably from McDonald's, he seemed so tired and bored at the same time, he was wearing some big dark purple jacket, a scarf around his neck and ear muffs on, endlessly chewing on his yummy pancakes. Midorima, looks the most tired of them all. Well, he just got off his shift from the hospital and had like 5 hours of sleep. He was wearing this big, beige-creamy, colored fluffy jacket, along with ear muffs and a beanie, his hands covered with gloves and his neck being adorned with this green scarf. He really was prepared for the cold outside. You looked at awe at Momoi, she looked beautiful even when tired, she was wearing this pink, fluffy jack, adorned with furs on the neckline, wearing some boots for winter and a scarf doubled around her neck, puffing and trying not to sleep. She looked so comfortable and cute! Kuroko, had his usual neutral face, as if he wasn't trembling in the cold. He had this light blue padded jacket that complimented along with his hair ear muffs on the side, a scarf around his neck and hands with gloves.

Really, you would've laughed loudly if it weren't for you trying to not wake up your husband. They looked like they were freezing so you quietly went down, which was another success.

As you proceeded to go down the stair with caution, you opened the door and behold you were greeted with the sight of tired faces.

"[name]-chan!!" Momoi's face lit up the moment you showed up hugging and rushing to you.

"hello momoi, good morning to you too." You just chuckled and greeted her back with a good morning and returned the hug.

"what's up [name]! Haven't seen you in a while!" Aomine greeted you with a small side hug.

"I was rather busy for awhile. Everything in the business industry is so tiring nowadays." You replied back, returning the side hug.

"[name]-chi!! Give me a hug too! I missed you very much!" Kise practically squealed, pushing away Aomine and hugging you tight.

"nice to see you too kise, I and Akashi had missed you guys too." You laughed in response, seemingly muffled as you returned the hug.

"hey [name]-chin, I brought this for you from the shop." Murasikabara greeted you as he handed you a box full of pretty macaroons.

"why thank you Murasikabara-kun! These are lovely." You thanked him, giving him a small hug which he returned back. As you looked to the side you saw Midorima. He nodded at you and fixed his glasses using his left hand.

"good morning [name]-san. A pleasant morning to you too." Kuroko said nonchantly as you just hugged him in response.

"good morning [name], a pleasure to meet you again but I just hoped it wasn't this early." He grunted in response earning a chuckle from you.

"my, I'm really sorry to all of you. But Akashi is a cunning one so I have no other methods to surprise him, he probably forgot his birthday." You explained back as your other hand connected to your left elbow.

"it's okay [name]-chan! We understand!" Momoi replied back as if she wasn't looking tired awhile ago.

"yeah! It's okay, don't think too much about it [name]-chi!" Kise added.

"well, thank you for your understanding. Shall we get started?" You asked back and they only nodded their heads as they followed you to the massive kitchen.

And so you guys started. You and Momoi started baking a cake together. It was a three layered cake filled with simplicity and effort, he's one to truly adore this. Murasikabara, Kuroko, and Kise designed the place, filled with balloons and a "happy birthday!" sign. There was also gold balloons having the number 27 on it, displaying the age of your beloved. Midorima and Aomine went to the groceries to buy drinks and a few snacks. They also went to the restaurants you asked for a small catering service for this special day.

And finally the hard work was done. Akashi was just about to wake up in no time. Everything was perfect. The cake was simple yet elegant enough for him, the designs were a bit extravagant for this small party you threw for him but he has lived for 27 years and deserved this. The food that was picked was perfect, it smelled delicious.

As you guys were adding final touches, Akashi woke up without you by his side. His eyes searched for your figure only to find none. He had slept in. It wasn't right to sleep in but he was tired from yesterday. It was nearing lunch already and now did he only noticed that he over slept for almost a few hours.

So he got up and went down to find you, unbeknownst to him, a surprise was waiting for him.

Hearing the creek of the door from your shared bedroom you told everyone to get ready, closing the lights and already in their positions. As Akashi neared the kitchen, he noticed it was dim and dark so he opened the lights and was he surprised when the generation of miracles along with Momoi and you jumped out and popped a confetti bomb.

"HAPPY BIRTHDAY AKASHI/SEIJURO" were the greetings he heard, his heart warmed from the sight. Almost everyone who's important to him was here. The generation of miracles, Momoi and finally you. His one and only beloved wife.

He had to admit he was surprised. He truly forgot his birthday. He felt quite special on this special day, for his loved ones were together. Here, in his house, on his birthday.

Ever since his mother died he never really celebrated his birthday anymore. It never felt special anymore, until he met you. Those years when you guys were together, you were always the one preparing his birthdays. You're the one who made him feel special. Who made him feel loved. And he loved you too.

As you made your way to him, his smile was a contented one. You whispered a small happy birthday to him and hugged him, he chuckled at this and kissed you. Earning groans and ews from the others which you guys laughed at.

"thank you guys for this, I am truly grateful." He said as he blew the candles, making his wish.

"yeah! yeah! time for beer!" Aomine replied back, excited to pop the beer cap open and everyone just laughed at this again.

"please don't influence them in to drinking too much." Midorima stated, as he too, grabbed a plate and ate.

You and Akashi just laughed at scene in front of you. Everyone was hogging the food and Aomine was having fun with his beer. You're still in his arms, content with the warmth he gave off.

"happy birthday my love, more birthdays to come to you. I love you." You whispered in his ear as everyone was busy eating in the background while you were still in his grasp.

"thank you love, I truly loved this surprise. I love you too darling." He chuckled and replied too, kissing the crown of you head.

"shall we eat too?" You asked him.

"sure my love, if that's what you want let's eat. The food looks rather delicious." He replied back as you dragged him to where the food was, chuckling again along the way as you fed him the food you guys bought. He loved the smile on his face and you loved his too. For he was contented with you guys. Contented with your love and efforts.

And as you mischievously added frosting to his nose everyone laughed, he really was contented with this. Everyone was laughing, a huge smile on your face, Aomine drinking beer, Momoi loving the cake, Kuroko eating fried rice, Midorima casually eating with grace as he applied his etiquette lessons. Kise drinking coke as if his swagness was second nature and Murasikabara having hoards of food on his plate.

It really was a special day.

A decade had passed since their respective graduations. Ten long years where dress fittings of caps and gowns, the hassle of ensuring all credits were in order, and the buzz of ceremonies had become nothing but a distant memory.

Life had an interesting way of evolving over time. They never thought the day would come where their priorities would shift from their beloved sport to the new lives ahead of them, but each of them had changed anyway. New hobbies were picked up, forever careers were started, and different paths were followed. Despite these changes however, one thing remained: the bond between them.

Kuroko — the teacher

he doesn't have any kids of his own yet, but he and his partner are currently expecting

he's great with kids — comes with the territory of his job — so he spends a lot of the reunion corralling his friends' kids together

"Please be careful," Kuroko warned as he trailed after the kids playing in the backyard, instincts taking over.

He watches as the children — all perfect mixes of their parents — run around the large grassy area. He nearly has a heart attack when Aomine's daughter, dressed in a princess dress that's already covered in dirt stains, attempts to climb up the plastic slide in the yard going to wrong way. She's slipping every few steps and Kuroko is beside her, hands held out to catch her in case of an emergency. Somewhere behind him, closer to where the rest of the parents were mingling, he hears the keening cry of an infant — Kagami's. Fighting the urge to turn and look for the problem, Kuroko lets out a silent breath of relief when Aomine's daughter finally sits down and uses the slide properly.

He wonders if his own child will be this rambunctious one day.

Kagami — the fireman

he's a brand-new dad as evidenced by the bouncing baby boy he's holding in his arms, the babe not even a year old yet

as he's reminiscing with friends, he's telling them about how excited he is to teach his son his favorite sport one day — gets mad when Aomine says his daughter will kick his son's ass in basketball

"You're doing it wrong."

Kagami wants to retort Aomine's huffed comment, but he knows the quip he has reeling in his head would come out biting and only jostle the bundled child he's carrying. And what if he's right? After all, Aomine had been a father for much longer than Kagami — he was experienced. So instead, Kagami sits back in his chair as he fixes the other male with a glare. Large hands shift, moving his baby's weight until the child is safely tucked against his chest. The previous wail from his son turn into gentle cooing sounds, filling his ears as the tension he had felt prior melts away.

"Like that?" he asks, reassured when Aomine gives him a single approving nod.

Kise — the pilot

his twin girls are the light of his life and he would do anything to make them happy — they're a little spoiled in that regard

normally dresses his daughters in cute, matching outfits because he's a great dad and can totally tell them apart at first glance, but today they're dressed in opposing colors for his friends' sakes

"Papa?" Kise looks down to where one of his daughters is tugging on his pant leg, the thumb of her free hand pressed to her lower lip as if she had been just sucking on it. "Why is that baby so fat?"

The blonde man splutters at his daughter's innocent question, returning the glare Kagami was now directing at him with an apologetic grimace. With corralling hands, Kise ushers his younger girl away from where Kagami and Aomine are lounging and closer to the grassy field where most of the kids are playing. His eyes scan the large backyard, spotting his eldest daughter on a slide that he thinks is much too tall for her. His nerves are only calmed by the presence of Kuroko nearby — he could hear the former shadow's voice gently scolding Aomine's daughter for trying not to wait her turn on the backyard playground.

"Papa will answer your question later. Why don't you go play with your sister?"

Aomine — the cop

had he been younger, Aomine might've been jealous that Kagami had a boy first, but as it was now, Aomine adored his little girl — he was the first of this group to have a kid, so she's the oldest of this newer generation

having a girl has softened him to the sweeter things in life while also hardening him for the things she may face one day — all in all, his daughter has matured him

"Hey, brat! Uncle Tetsu already told you once to wait your turn!"

Aomine chuckles as his scolding is met with furrowed brows and a small pink tongue sticking out at him. He watches as his daughter, already so much taller than the other children, climbs off the plastic slide and switches her focus onto a nearby muddy puddle. Her dress, once a soothing baby blue, became covered in more stains as she dug her hands through the earth for something else to play with. His spouse was going to kill him.

"Man, I didn't expect raising a girl to be so difficult," Aomine gripes.

Midorima — the doctor

his little girl ends up being as much of a bookworm as her dad, so she spends a lot of the reunion with her nose in a novel that looks way too complicated for her age

since he's a doctor, Midorima's daughter has seemed to pick up on a lot of his teachings — namely, she finds anything she considered germ-riddled to be abhorant

"It doesn't have to be. You're just doing it wrong," Midorima mimics Aomine's earlier insult toward Kagami, the smirk on his face intending to be teasing and non-serious.

He avoids Aomine's seething look by glancing down at his own daughter beside him. Her eyes are cast downward, laser focused on a book she had chosen for herself for the trip — it was the third time she was reading it. Midorima feels a satisfied smile melt his previous smirk as he watches her. The soft moment between them is only broken by another small intruding hand, covered in crumbs and holding a half eaten cookie.

"Ew, it's already bitten!" his daughter squeals, recoiling away from the offering.

Murasakibara — the pastry chef

nobody expected Murasakibara to want children, but he's already got two little ones — a girl, then a boy, only a year apart — that have just as big of a sweet tooth as him, if not bigger

he makes sugary confections for a living, so hyperactive kids are drawn to him much to his chagrin; thankfully one of his kids seemed to have inherited his lax attitude toward life, but the other one...

"What did I say about sharing things we've already put our mouth on?"

With a hand much larger than his son's, Murasakibara plucks the half eaten cookie out of his hands and replaces it with a whole one that had been covered in plastic that morning — upon Midorima's request, of course. Murasakibara sighs in slow relief as the second cookie is accepted, glad that there wouldn't be a meltdown — his son always had meltdowns. When he takes his eyes of his son and shifts them over to his daughter, he notices a small redheaded boy trying to coax her away.

"Go play for a bit. It's good for you," he tells her, immediately grimacing afterword. The phrase reminded him of when he'd get the same scolding from his mother.

Akashi — the professional shogi player

Akashi is the one who called upon his friends for the reunion, so it's being held at his expansive home — as such, his son is the one showing all the other kids his large collection of things to do in the yard

he had to grow up pretty quickly, so Akashi is the type of dad that wants to make sure his son is having fun with life for as long as possible

"Be gentle, don't tug," Akashi warns as his son pulls Murasakibara's daughter further out into the backyard.

Akashi takes a moment to look at the scene in front of him; all of his friends, together for the first time in years, and their respective children are here. There's yelling and crying and hugging and scraped knees all around. It floods his backyard. The backyard he had spent many childhood years in alone. The realization that he's able to give his son something he never had pulls a small, content smile onto his face.

He walks up to Kuroko, placing a friendly hand on the man's shoulder. "Let's do this again after yours is born."

Challenge Day 302 of Year 9 Gom was a happy person by default. He liked his position on the ship as the co-pilot, and he liked his crew. The only thing he didn't like were the deserts in the cupboard.

FRANKLYYY i love that we only ever hear jessica recite the litany against fear. both times she says it paul is mouthing along, but it’s her voice we hear, the voice of an actual bene gesserit witch. we see him withstand immense pain with the gom jabbar at his neck, we see him pilot the thopter through a sandstorm, and both times we hear jessica reciting the litany before paul calms down. he’s moving his mouth, but it’s jessica’s voice because the bene gesserit are always speaking through him (whether he likes it or not) because he’s the result of 10,000 years of their selective breeding. and that’s like the whole thing!!! destiny/fate/whatever you want to call it is always speaking and acting through paul and he KNOWS this and he has no say in the matter...........ugh house of atreus cursed 14,000 years

Hey I just wanted to hear your opinion if whether you think that the GOM are going to take their basketball careers to the professional level or like just move on (like daiki being a cop, Kise being a pilot etc.)

Technically I don’t write for the GOM, but I do like stating my opinion so here you go ;)

So, with Aomine, I know the character bible talks about him as a police officer - but it refers to him specifically as an American officer so I don’t know if it was just Fujimaki having fun. Besides, I can’t imagine why he’d become a police officer? Sure, he’s not completely morally corrupt, can fight, and wouldn’t do badly in a ‘brotherhood’ style of workplace, but I can’t imagine him wanting to save people. Personally, I think he’ll take his basketball to a professional level. Then, after he retired, he’d become a coach for a very strong elementary/middle school team. (Just cause he’s got some childish traits, he’d never be able to leave basketball behind, and because, as an only child, he’s probably not got a lot of experience with how annoying little kids are.)

As a coach, he’d be lax but would definitely breed enthusiasm amongst the kids - (and would be no better than them. Aomine, after defeating an 8yo one on one, like: “you’re a 100 years too early to defeat me!”) - very much a basketball version of GTO. As a police officer, he’d be the dude at a local police station who does absolutely nothing, and has been reported as being a criminal at least once.

Murasakibara, in contrast, won’t become a professional basketball player. He’ll definitely continue playing the sport on the side - because he does love it, no matter what he says - but he’s not got the right mindset to work at that level. So, after Jason Silver breaks his wrist during the Jabberwock match, meaning Murasakibara would have to take some time off basketball, that’s when he would start thinking more seriously about the future, and start working towards being a pastry chef. The only thing is, he’s not good at handling small things, nor at being a leader. Hence his main tasks would probably end up involving baking rather than decorating, and adding things to the menu alongside a head pastry chef.

As for Kise, again, the alternate job idea of him as a pilot just seems a bit out of nowhere. The only evidence to support it could be that he’s good at English (a necessary skill if he’s working on international flights). My expectations are that he’ll continue playing basketball by Aomine’s side - cause he’s too talented, and enjoys the sport too much, to do otherwise - with some modelling on the side (mostly with a sports fashion companies) to pay the bills. As he gets older, he may end up doing more TV work, either as a commentator (since being able to copy techniques surely makes it easier to analyse a match) or as an ambassador to basketball.

Midorima strikes me as someone who will end up as a doctor. Not only are his best subjects chemistry and biology (which are the essential ones to study medicine), but they’re also his favourite subjects, which makes medicine the natural progression. The rigorous nature of med school, however, means that he doesn’t have much time left for basketball apart from the occasional shooting practice alone. Anyway, he ends up as a surgeon, the ideal job for him since: he’s not great with people (which rules out psychiatry, family medicine, etc), he’s a hard worker and very accurate in what he does, plus no one minds his idiosyncrasies as they don’t change the fact that he’s one of the best surgeons in the field. Also, he’s very awkward if patients ever come to thank him when they’re recovering from surgery.

Kuroko’s another one who’ll leave the world of basketball. He’s too short, too physically weak, and would a scout ever even notice him? So, I agree with Fujimaki’s idea of him becoming a teacher - specifically working either in a kingergarden, or in an elementary school, as I doubt he’d be able to handle middle school plus. Besides, though he’s good at several subjects, and shows interest in several others, his grades are still a little too mediocre to help people prep for university. Long story short, he ends up teaching literature; all his students love him, but any child in the school he doesn’t teach has no clue that he exists. Basketball becomes just a hobby, something he plays whenever he’s hanging out with his old teammates.

Finally, I’m torn as regards Akashi’s future. Either he’ll end up working in his father’s line of work, or he’ll break away to work either as a professional basketballer or a shogi player. However, he’s on the shorter side height-wise (there’s only one player on Japan’s current national basketball team who’s shorter than him), which may make him move towards the shogi route, as Fujimaki claims, where his emperor eye may come in handy with some training (allowing him to analyse his opponent’s state of mind, and thus predict their next moves). But, out of all the GOM who don’t take basketball to a professional level, Akashi will probably play the sport for the longest time, definitely competing with his university’s basketball team.

I have two, both of whom are the main characters of the fic, Mercurial. They are: Zyriah Idaho, and Maksim Atreides.

ABOUT: ZYRIAH IDAHO

Zyriah is the younger sister of Duncan Idaho, who remains her sole guardian.

She grew up in Caladan with Paul as ward of the House of Atreides.

Basically, whenever Duncan left on diplomatic or military business, she would be left in the care of Jessica.

She attended the same Bene Gesserit teachings as Paul did, as Jessica hoped that if she trained another young female mind in the ways of the Gesserit, it would soften the repercussions of her producing a son.

Zyriah and Paul are very similar in age, separated only by a year (Paul is older, and he liked to lord that over Zyriah when they were growing up, in spite of his position being well above her own).

She was also trained in diplomacy, and would attend the same events as Paul, more often than not to stave off the boredom that was bound to creep in on children.

Leto stated many times that should Zyriah and Paul wish to wed, they would have his blessing, as the Atreides' seat of power was stable enough then to not have to use marriage as a political tool. He was teasing them, of course, both being too young. But there was always an underlying truth to his words.

Everything changes when they gain possession of Arrakis.

Paul had been drawing away from Zyriah of late, his dreams hoarding all conscious thought. And he'd refuse to tell Zyriah, out of guilt, because he loved her, but he loved the girl in his dreams, stood atop a dune, the girl with the spice-blue eyes, too.

Because Duncan is stationed at Arrakis, Zyriah is expected to reside there as well. Which she hadn't minded until Paul became... Different.

She'd only truly begun to suspect something dark deep within him at the Truthsayer's Gom Jabbar test.

They'd never admitted to each other that they loved one another, and they never needed to. They knew. And the Reverend Mother Gaius Helen Mohiam knew it too, because at one glance, she had unraveled their ill-concealed hearts and sought to weaponise it against them.

She'd known of Zyriah, of course; full of potential, very strong with The Voice. Stronger than Paul, stronger than even Jessica was at her age. A worthy new acolyte.

But she, too, would need to be tested. Could she keep her duty above her own fear? Or fear for a loved one? Fear was the mind-killer, after all.

Zyriah was given one instruction: no matter what she saw, what she heard, she'd refrain from helping.

And so she did.

She watched as Paul's jaw tightened, watched as his teeth threatened to splinter. Watched the needle hover precariously close to his neck as he shook, quivered in pain.

She'd almost stepped forward.

She'd almost helped.

Almost.

But she didn't, because something else had taken over Paul, something old, something strong, something distinctly... unkind. And it suffered the pain for him, this stranger wearing Paul Atreides' face.

And Zyriah froze, unsettled in her hesitation.

They both passed the test. But they both lost a little something of themselves.

And they'd lose more.

They'd also lose each other.

ABOUT: MAKSIM ATREIDES

Paul's cousin by Leto's younger brother.

An untrustworthy, self-serving mutinous little shit.

Has always been bitter that the Atreides throne went to Leto and not his father; made more bitter by the fact that Leto never wanted to be Duke, but rather, a pilot.

Is one of the people who betrays the Atreides to the Harkonnens.

In his defence, he thought that they were only going to be kept as political prisoner and later released; cemented by the fact that the Truthsayer forbade any harm coming to Paul.

He is... sufficiently horrified at the massacre that ensues.

All he ever wanted was the chance - an opportunity - to claim the throne.

Paul was a boy, a child, at best.

And illegitimate, if you followed the marriage law.

His guilt drives him into the desert where he seeks to help Paul and Jessica as penance.

Zyriah - who reunited with Paul when she escaped the slaughter with Duncan - guides him to them.

She knows of his treason, but she also knows that he will help her.

She can feel the malevolence growing in Paul, and can see him slipping further and further away from who he was, who she knew him to be. Slipping further down his Golden Path, paved in glory and gore.

And she knows that when it comes down to it, she won't be strong enough to stop him alone.

She doesn't even think she can bring herself to do it.

But she knows Maksim can.

Sometimes saving someone means slaying them before they're no longer themselves.

And she knows Maksim will do anything to save Paul.

the canon take on Kuroko’s job is a kindergarten teacher, which is understandable but doesn’t satisfy me that much

Nerdist - Breaking Down the First DUNE Trailer Shot by Shot

Starting with the Pink Floyd song. The lyrics for “Eclipse” are rather fitting for Dune. But moreover, Alejandro Jodorowsky wanted Pink Floyd to do the music for the adaptation he never finished.

“There’s something happening to me.” Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) stands in a bright light, dust swirling around him. The dust is likely spice, the addictive substance Arrakis is known for producing. He’s in the middle of a spice cloud on Arrakis—at least he is in his dream.

“There’s something awakening in my mind. I can’t control it.” He sees Chani (Zendaya) on Arrakis, illuminated by the sun. Then he sees himself with Chani; they’re both wearing stillsuits. They kiss. This is still part of his dream. A prescient dream, as it turns out.

Paul awakens from the dream in his bed on Caladan, his home planet. Notice that the headboard features fish in motion. It’s a symbol. Caladan is a planet full of water. It’s lush… unlike where he’s about to go.

“There’s a crusade coming.” The young Atreides sees a future of fire and smoke. He stands with what looks like the Lady Jessica (though it could be Chani) at a siege. Someone is attacking Arrakis. Is this part of a dream or is it really happening? Paul can see the future in his dreams, so it’s likely this attack is an event to come. Something that will lead to that dangerous path mentioned above.

Then we’re back on Caladan. Before the Atreides depart their home, the Bene Gesserit Reverend Mother Gaius Helen Mohiam (Charlotte Rampling) questions Paul. She asks the Atreides son about his dreams. She then administers the gom jabbar test to see if Paul is actually human.

After some dramatic shots of storm clouds above Caladan, we get a solid look at personal shields, a.k.a. Holtzman shields, and how combat with the shield works. It’s a personal protective energy field the wearer can easily activate. Here, Paul trains with Gurney Halleck (Josh Brolin); they both have their shields activated. When the shield flashes red, it indicates a hit. Though brief, this scene illustrates that the Atreides heir is swift on his feet and capable in a fight. He’s been relentlessly trained by Gurney, a warrior poet, and other teachers to handle himself.

And behold, our first glimpse (in this trailer) of Paul’s father, Duke Leto Atreides (Oscar Isaac). He’s a powerful figure in the Dune world, and as Leto says goodbye to Caladan, he knows Arrakis will bring change and challenge. Paul points out to the Reverend Mother that his father rules an entire planet. The Reverend Mother notes that Leto is losing it. And that the Duke will lose Arrakis too.

We see the exterior of Castle Caladan, and servants and assistants packing up the interior. All of this—the color palette, the size, the number of possessions—sets up Caladan as a very different place than Arrakis. The Atreides are going from a place of comfort, of home to somewhere entirely unknown and unwelcoming.

As we see the last of Caladan, we cut to Lady Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson), a Bene Gesserit, Duke Leto’s concubine, and Paul’s mother. She looks on edge to say the least. For one thing, she’s leaving her home. She has no illusions about what Arrakis will really be like. Jessica is suspicious that House Harkonnen is letting go of the spice rich planet and letting House Atreides come in without consequence. She should be on guard. And as a Bene Gesserit, Jessica is unnerved by the Reverend Mother’s presence and that the elder put Paul through the Gom Jabbar. Lady Jessica’s decisions are at the core of a lot of Dune‘s major events, and though she can’t grasp that know, she certainly knows something is in the air.

Next, the arrival on Arrakis. From the first moment, the blinding light is opposite of the cooler hues on Caladan. Duke Leto Atreides appears in full armor and looks over his shoulder to give Paul a look of concern. Jessica and other women of the household appear to be in a formal dress of some kind. The vastness of Arrakis awaits them. Guild transport ships and troops stand on the sand.

As Paul and Gurney walk into the desert, a very eager Duncan Idaho (Jason Momoa) greets him. Duncan is another of Paul’s teachers; he’s an expert fighter. He went to Arrakis ahead of the Atreides to attempt forging an alliance with the Fremen. In this moment, we also get a glimpse of Thufir Hawat (Stephen McKinley Henderson). A mentat and master of assassins, Thufir works for House Atreides. He’s been training Paul in the arts of war and strategy. Paul and Gurney are in Atreides dress uniforms, while Duncan is wearing a Fremen stillsuit.

And speaking of the Fremen, this is Stilgar (Javier Bardem), a respected Fremen leader. The Fremen, of course, being the inhabitants of Arrakis’ desert. We get a good look at his blue-within-blue eyes—the Eyes of Ibad—which is caused by the consumption of spice. All Fremen eyes look like this.

“Arrakis is a death trap.” As if to emphasize this warning about Arrakis, we see a huge number of Sardaukar, the Padishah Emperor’s elite military force. That these soldiers are on Arrakis is very bad news. And they are present in huge numbers.

With the introduction of the threat of the Sardaukar, it’s time to meet the primary opposition to House Atreides: House Harkonnen. We first see Glossu Rabban Harkonnen (Dave Bautista), a.k.a. the Beast. He’s Baron Vladimir Harkonnen’s oldest nephew and quite sadistic and terrifying.

Speaking of sadistic and terrifying, this is brief look at Stellan Skarsgård as Baron Harkonnen. The leader of House Harkonnen is no foolish enemy. He’s cunning, manipulative, and excellent at staying one step ahead of his enemy. It’s hard to tell what he’s doing here, but I’m going to go ahead and say it’s evil.

As palm trees burn outside the Arrakeen keep the Atreides now call home, a distressed Lady Jessica appears. Arrakis only means trouble for the Atreides family. Paul notes, “This is an extermination.”

This is our first look at Dr. Wellington Yueh (Chen Chang). The Suk doctor serves as Duke Leto’s personal physician. The black diamond tattoo visible on his forehead denotes Imperial Conditioning, which conditions doctors against taking human life. It basically means nobles can trust any doctor with this tattoo not to assassinate them.

And then Sardaukar drop in. We hear Paul say, “They’re picking my family off one by one.” The young Atreides appears by his father, both in Fremen stillsuits. In the book, they wear stillsuits to go out into the desert to observe spice harvesting so that may be what we’re seeing here (or about to see).

“Let’s fight like demons.” Remember how I mentioned Duncan Idaho being an excellent fighter? Well, he’d better be, because he’s facing a lot of Sardaukar. You can see more shield hits as he launches into action.

In the middle of this growing tension, we flash back to the Reverend Mother giving Paul the gom jabbar test. She explains an animal caught in a trap will gnaw off its own leg to escape. The Bene Gesserit elder wonders what Paul will do. Is she trying to say the Atreides are going to be caught in a trap on Arrakis? And that Paul will have to take action? Hmm…

As the footage shifts back to Arrakis, we see Paul’s first in person meeting with Chani. He’s seen the Fremen women in dreams before, so he’s not startled to recognize her.

The next few sequences illustrate the amount of trouble the Atreides face. Some of it, anyway. Drop ships arriving during what looks like a siege. An ornithopter is in the air. What seems to be a group of Atreides troops take a hit with Gurney Halleck looking blinded and surprised by an explosion.

Baron Harkonnen, bald like his nephew Rabban, rises from oily water. Baldness is apparently a Harkonnen thing in this Dune adaptation.

Then Duncan Idaho and Paul salute each other, and it looks like Paul has a crysknife. This is likely before an important duel (if you’ve read the book you know the one, and if you haven’t, I won’t spoil it).

One of Arrakis’ many perils is the sandworm. The creatures that reside in the desert make traveling on foot and harvesting spice a challenge. Case in point, a sandworm devours a spice harvester whole while Paul and Gurney look on in this scene.

Dr. Yueh from earlier walks alongside Harkonnen troops. That sure seems suspicious.

And then next we get a look at Dr. Liet Kynes (Sharon Duncan-Brewster). Dr. Kynes is the planet’s Imperial ecologist and also a Fremen leader. The character is gender-swapped here.

The pace picks up, signaling the increasing threats the Atreides face. We see Rabban leading Harkonnen troops. The camera pauses on the Beast’s stomach, likely because of the whip he’s wearing. It’s an inkvine whip. In the Dune book lore, the Beast used that whip in a fight with Gurney Halleck and left a scar on the warrior’s cheek.

A bloody hand falling from Duke Leto’s shoulder (likely belonging to the Shadout Mapes, the head housekeeper of the Atreides’ new abode).

Paul, apparently settling right into Fremen life, engages in a duel. He pulls a crysknife on one of the Fremen.

Then Jessica and Paul pilot ornithopter in what looks like a rushed manner. They’re running from something or someone. I mean, there’s plenty to run from on Arrakis so…

Arrakis is such a treasured planet because of the spice that comes from the desert. Here, Paul picks up a handful of sand containing the highly valued substance.

We hear Paul say “Fear is the mind-killer” as Duncan Idaho kneels in front of Paul and says, “My lord Duke.” The words Paul recites are from the Bene Gessert Litany Against Fear, maybe the most quoted passage from Dune.

And as the trailer ends, we get a clearer look at a sandworm. It looms above Paul and Jessica, mouth agape and ready to devour whatever and whoever is in its way. You can see how its mass displaces the desert sand around it. If the fact that a sandworm ate a whole harvesting vehicle wasn’t enough to unnerve you, this certainly should do the trick.

since the dub has us watching the anime for a second time, i’ve gotten into a knb mood! so i decided to dig through my evernote and post some bits and pieces of old wips from...ah, 6 years ago is the earliest one. welp.

akashi/kuroko, coffee shop au

nothing’s actually written for this one, just a cast list and where everyone goes. it’s a pretty long series of lists sooo i won’t actually post it, but here’s where GoM+Kagami are!

okay that’s a super short one but i do like the idea of midorima taking time like i used to just...turning all the bills to face the same direction

akashi/kuroko, coffee shop/bookstore au

"I'm off in a few minutes," Kuroko says, looking Akashi in the eye while he continues to wipe down the counter, "if you can wait."

Akashi smiles and turns his coffee cup in his hand, giving Kuroko a glimpse of his own handwriting on the side of it. It just says "Akashi-kun", and Kuroko knows he wrote that a solid 15 minutes ago.

"Are you?" Akashi muses. Kuroko nods and Akashi straightens up from leaning against the counter, taking his coffee and lingering gaze with him. "I'm not in any rush."

Kuroko thanks every higher power that the coffee shop outlet didn't see too many of the bookstore's customers today. He doesn't usually want busy days as it is, but the moment Akashi comes in the more he finds himself wishing for nothing to do.

"I'm sorry." Akashi says and the table goes quiet, half from shock over hearing Akashi say that at all, and the rest as if they'd been punched.

They don't know how to respond. Kise's jaw is dropped,  Murasakibara fidgets, and Midorima is getting his hand squeezed by Takao. Aomine stretches loudly, suddenly, and everyone jumps.

"S'not your fault," Aomine grumbles while not making eye contact with Akashi, "don't apologize."

Akashi's frown is set in deep. "I should have been able to handle the situation much better than I did. I take responsibility."

Kagami is still chewing his food when he talks. "Weren't all of you in fuckin middle school? Like...what, 13 or 14?"

Everyone turns on him with different reactions; while Murasakibara looks horrified at the disrespect, Takao is trying his damn hardest to keep his burst of laughter muffled. Kuroko jabs Kagami's side and Kagami groans.

"Oh my god," he growls, "seriously, you guys were kids, who the fuck expects a kid to handle all you assholes?" He gripes while gesturing to the rainbow of said assholes, his own boyfriend included.

i get what i was going for but i’d write this differently from how i did 6 years ago. this is like a little overdramatic i guess??? but man i’m just here for some adults dealing with group childhood trauma but this time in a more lighthearted way

akashi/kuroko, about their first date!

Akashi looks as put-together and expensive as kuroko knew he would. He has layers and nice shoes, hands in his pockets and a pleasant, observant expression as he scans the crowds. Kuroko's early and he wonders how long Akashi has been here.

He doesn't bother waving, it wouldn't necessarily make him more visible. He's expecting to be able to walk up to him, invisible and silent, but he's quickly in Akashi's area of sight and he's seen. Kuroko stumbles from being suddenly so visible under a gaze that seems to see all of him at once.

Akashi smiles. "Kuroko, you're early."

Kuroko steps into Akashi's space, settles comfortably beside him facing the crowd. "You're one to talk."

"Hmm, well I can't argue that." Akashi glides through his words. "Shall we go?"

Kuroko is watching faces and gestures. "We're early, aren't we?"

Akashi's eyes flick over all the people,  smirking a little. "Everyone here is in a rush."

Kuroko nods. The trains are going to be packed and he would usually tackle that challenge. He bumps shoulders with Akashi, who nudges him in return.

They return to the equipment room to undress themselves from their quidditch gear, Akashi leading Kagami by his hand, still in quiet disbelief that this might just work out.

Akashi looks up and is the first one to see Kuroko standing there in his robes, broom in hand, smiling at them.

kuroko came to practice with them, heard the yelling and ran to see what was up, saw the post-fall bit and just kinda hung out and watched bc boyfriends yeh.

Akashi sits in his bed across the room from Kuroko’s. Their roommates are in their own beds, studying or writing letters in the quiet warmth of their dormitory. It’s lights-out, they should all be at least trying to sleep, but it’s been a long time since any of them have stuck to that.

Akashi doesn’t know if Kuroko used to go to bed on time. He doesn’t remember if he gets up early or is late for his classes. He never used to see him, but now he can’t stop looking at him. Kuroko fidgets under his gaze and Akashi smiles.

“Sorry, Kuroko,” he says, watching Kuroko startle and look around at their roommates, “is this uncomfortable?”

Kuroko’s expression rarely morphs outside of his usual default, but Akashi watches the small furrows of his brow and the deeper set of his unsure frown. He’s been unable to un-see Kuroko since that day earlier this year. He finds Kuroko fascinating and wonderful, a pinnacle of everything he wanted to complete his quidditch team who goes far and beyond his every expectation. He’s fixated on Kuroko, the Muggle-born Slytherin with a talent tailored to the qualities of a perfect Seeker.

Some of their dormmates have looked up at Akashi curiously, asking without words who he was talking to. Akashi waves them off and they shrug, more preoccupied with their own things at this time of night Akashi reaches out a hand to Kuroko, across the room, and Kuroko shoots it a confused stare.

Akashi chuckles. “Come here.”
