Day 19: Favorite Crowley look/hairstyle

Season 2 present-day Crowley has my favorite hair. I love the 666 color, the bright red streak, the curls, the swoopiness, and everything about it.

Which is not to say that I don't love plenty of other Crowley looks, like long Golgotha curls, the half-bun shoulder length, short and sleek 1941, season 1 present day, etc.

But this is my favorite. And I would totally do this color for cosplaying if I could manage it.

So it's Halloween and me and @grison-in-space decided to Good Omens this shit. Also featuring Janthony, a 6 year old Ball Python owned by @nuuuuttmeg.

i really really really really REALLY want to cosplay golgotha crowley but um... i’m also really reluctant to do so. i know it’s got something to do with how i’m a woman of color while crowley is played by a white man. but i can’t articulate why this difference in particular is making me pause.

maybe i’ll sort this out. i don’t know.

On a mostly-unrelated note, I’ve seen people on twitter say that they were ‘uncomfortable’ seeing fem!cosplay for Crowley and Aziraphale, since they ‘might be sexless but they’re male-presenting in the show’.  Crowley in the show: *wears women’s trousers* Also Crowley in the show: *presents as a woman in the Golgotha scene* And do I have to remind you how gorgeous Nanny Ashtoreth was?

What strikes me about this lovely piece of art is Aziraphale's eager willingness to let Crowley (and ONLY CROWLEY) into his otherwise-quite-large Personal Space Bubble.

Like, Aziraphale does not want people (or ethereal/occult beings) to be all up in his business. Even in the Mesopotamia and Golgotha and Soho-sidewalk crowd scenes, the crowd's a little way away from him and nobody touches him, not even the Kind Bystander (whom I adore). Aziraphale the Magician works from behind a table, separated from the kids. Whenever Gabriel pops up in Aziraphale's space (over sushi, and in the jogging scene), Aziraphale is visibly discomfited. Even in his very own bookshop, when Gabriel and Sandalphon bracket him, he stays midway between them, as far from each of them as he can reasonably get. Part of the horror of Hell for him-cosplaying-Crowley is the cheek-by-jowl mass of demons behind the glass barrier, and it's telling that he spritzes the wall not just once, but several times with holy water -- it gets that fetid crowd a little further away from him!

But Crowley can circle him (defining and patrolling his boundaries? arguably!), Crowley can pop up right beside him (as in Mesopotamia), Crowley can stand right beside him brushing against his very clothing (Mesopotamia, Golgotha, Globe), Crowley can wall-pin him and hiss in his face, and it's all fine with Aziraphale. If one isolates Crowley's figure in this piece of art, it's not hard to read him as threatening, as encroaching -- but Aziraphale's fine with it. And I think that's right. Aziraphale would be fine with it.

Not that Crowley abuses his closeness privileges. He conspicuously doesn't. As they cross the street in Soho, it's Crowley who warns the cars off with a casual hand. In the godfather scene, Crowley carefully keeps his distance to give the angel (quite literal) space to consider. In the Bastille, Crowley respects that the angel may not be in a good place mentally, staying a little way away until the threat has been scotched.

It's quite -- sorry, Crowley -- nice, really.

Ineffableintober 2019 reflection

Here they all are. To see them like this I must admit I feel... accomplished.

I drew mostly in near-darkness late at night on a 4x6 notepad I took from a hotel. At times I used some very nice Sakura Pigma pens or Prisma colored pencils, but mostly I used a Dixon Ticonderoga #2 or a Wexford Rollerball.

My artworks included a collage, photo manipulation, recipes, fics, homages and inspirations, some humor, some angst, some surprise symbolism, a tee-shirt iron-on (for a fic-based cosplay I’m working on, so I’m not done yet!), and exactly one bunny.

The most popular image (and my most popular Tumblr post to date) was “Bookshop”. I drew it in a hotel room and added the colors of the flag digitally on my phone. It was inspired by Pride in London where all the buildings have rainbow on them and my own perception of representation in the show. I am so happy it was well received!

My second most popular, and possibly my favorite, was “the Bentley”. I have a real affinity for the Bentley (found out from a post that her name is Mary) and had all kinds of ideas as to how I wanted to draw her. This was not where I thought I would go, with her disappearing into a curtain of flame. But I started drawing, and eventually realized that the strokes of the black pen started to look like the points of black feathers on burning wings.  Though I don’t think this is the reason Crowley has black wings (I go with the thought that he just thinks they look cooler than white), the symbolism overtook me and I had to go with it.

I was surprised by so much. That I could somehow take a picture of my patio table with a cup of coffee and a cup of milk and make it into Paris. That Reverse Omens was so fun to imagine. That I could pretty much recall what motorcycles each of the horsepersons were riding.

That their wingtips touched when Crowley and Aziraphale stood with Adam, and that, for the Church prompt, I could pull in the symbolism of a desecrated holy item to stand in for the Antichrist who ends up saving the world (this was not planned, I only noticed all of it later). I learned that Golgotha means place of the skulls. That absinthe tastes really good in a cocktail, but will ruin you.

I want to say a special thank you from the bottom of my heart to @theladyflamee who created the list. I honestly did not read ahead and tried every day to be surprised and inspired to be creative by treating myself to what prompt came next. It was wonderful.

2023 in cosplay ✨🍎🍃! 2023 has been a bit of a "cosplay block" year in regards to working on unfinished and new projects, even though I did do cosplay stuff - I finally finished and did a couple of shoots with 2000s Crowley in the Summer 😎🍎 (which was a WIP since late 2019 lol), and also did a closet Lady Loki cosplay back in October 🐍🗡️🎆. Thanks to Good Omens S2 and me participating in 3 Good Omens collabs 🎉, I cosplayed a lot of Crowley this year, which is always good, including most of my versions (Eden/Ark, Golgotha, Medieval Fantasy, 15th Century Burgundian, 2000s Modern), and also did an initial short wig test for other modern Crowleys (hopefully for 2024). As for the (sparing) rest, I did do a 2nd Doctor shoot in February 💙💙🎶, and started working on Míriel Therinde for my closet cosplay Silmarillion women ♀✨ (also for 2024 xD). So here's for more cosplay in 2024, but also for enjoyment without stressing about it 😁👍✨! . . ➡️✨2024 cosplans?✨ Well, there's a lot of unfinished projects I'd love to finally work on more in 2024, so hopefully some will happen 😅👍 - Main ones are Modern 2010-2020s Crowley(s), and Sylvie (on standby since 2021-22). And I'd also love to finally do some shoots for Chase Arwen, Ted Nasmith dancing Lúthien, Legend of the Sea Devils Thirteen, an upgraded Elsa, and my upgraded 14th Century outfit. . ➡️Then there's my Silmarillion women series, starting with the "Finwean" Noldorin ladies, from Míriel Therinde, to Nerdanel, Anaire, Earwen and Indis. . ➡️Finally, for potential new projects, both Fourteen and God Loki are high on the list, and reenactment-wise, I'm strongly leaning towards the Italian Renaissance this year, I think. But we'll see xD

Honestly, I think the necklace/scarf is probably easiest to make on your own. (Metal mesh tube without fillers, silver stoppers, black tassels.) I was looking for the snake belt buckle, and didn’t find any good ones.

I have a wibbly wobbly timey wimey Crowley cosplay planned, so these are relevant to my interests. So far, I think Golgotha outfit, Nanny shoes, 2012 hair, 70ies glasses (found an almost match), the scarf necklace, and I’m pondering a laurel crown, too.

Has anyone found good versions of Crowley’s silver scarf, snake belt buckle, or 2012 sunglasses? I’m working on a cosplay for Boston comic con!

The shrugging pic is Crowley bluntly saying 'cry about it' at *those* right-wing Christians who become so strongly offended at the concept that many traditions and symbols of the Western Christmas actually have their origin in various Yule and Winter Solstice former celebrations, and the fact that nothing comes from the void and many religions and traditions predate and become assimilated into others which come after them - and the Solstice period is no exception (but still, *those* people will write rants yearly about the offense of it 😂🎄🤷🏻 xD)
