This panel is a pretty good encapsulation of how different they are. Vril really does not care about the consequences of his actions here, possibly because he feels like he's already done enough for Colu by freeing them, while Querl feels like he has the entire world on his shoulders. One could argue that it is his fault to some degree, but it wouldn't be hard to instead argue that Brainiac himself bears most of not all of the responsibility and that you can't blame one person for the direction of an entire society. But Querl does.

We already know that Vril doesn't care about the future so it makes sense that he doesn't care or even really get the problem. Yet he does try to cheer Querl up. He is in his soft dad era during this so that's probably part of the reason why, but he also just seems to like Querl. Perhaps it's easier to see him as a son-like figure than his own son, who's at this point not only a reminder of worse times but also lobotomised and probably utterly boring to Vril.

Name: John Gordon. Gender: Male. General appearance: Lawrence's son through and through, but with extra muscle and genetically blessed to get bigger and stronger with way less dedication than many would need for his body. He keeps the hair short, will often style the bangs similarly to his father (slicked back, very professionally), has the same piercing blue gaze and an overall magnetic presence given his size. He is not shy of his build (and the good use it sees in football as a quarterback) - he dresses in a way that reminds everyone he could probably break bones with his hands as easily as he can break hearts with his god-like features. Personality: Here is where his mother's contribution shines through - John is very sociable, generous and fond of being in large groups. He was into sports since his early years, always surrounded by friends and never failed to receive invitations for the parties. A very popular kid, he nevertheless lacked the arrogance that some of his peers possessed - he is just full of energy and enjoys hanging out with his loved ones. He has dated girls pretty often (although he struggles to commit if they get too jealous given his busy routine) and is a bright, optimistic young man in a way that is quite comical when compared to his siblings (either on the quiet and intimidating side or the alternative and geeky range of the spectrum). Special talents: John is a ladies' man - he flirts like he breathes, make friends everywhere and is very much at ease doing all sorts of social events. Despite being so charming, he's respectful and aware of the charisma he possesses - he doesn't lead girls on, and frankly would never hear the end of the lecture Melissa would give him if he did. Who they like better: Melissa, hands down - John just doesn't have a lot of stuff in common with his father, and Lawrence can come across as judgmental given the path John has elected to pursue professionally - he doesn't have the brains of his older sister or the street smarts of his younger brother. He is a very traditional good boy and the dream of most families, but he sometimes feels like he has disappointed his father somehow. Melissa needs to every now and then remind John that he's precious just like anyone else in the family. Who they take after more: On the outside, he's a more athletic version of Lawrence; on the inside, he's a more cheerful version of Melissa. He clearly combines both of his parents in different ways but to anyone who knows the Gordons more intimately, they will be quick to say he's Melissa's son (in spirit). He's very affectionate with her and she returns it as well - they are frequently hugging, holding hands or caressing hair when watching TV, for example. Out of all their kids, John is the one that craves that companionship the most - in true golden retriever energy. Personal Headcanon: Over the years, John ended up picking football as his preferred sport - and he has since then attempted to make his dad interested enough to follow a game now and then. It's really not Lawrence's thing - he doesn't care much for matches of any kind, but he has been making an effort given how much it means to John. Watching games on Sunday together is a bit of a tradition whenever Lawrence's schedule allows for it, and one day, maybe, Lawrence will be willing to face the crowds and go out for a real one regardless of the hassle and the long standing hours given his disability.
