Sims In Bloom: Generation 2 Pt. 70 (The Youngest Nesbitt Gets Married!)

It was a sunny, if chilly, autumn day in Henford-on-Bagley when Heather's youngest sister, Hazel, married Nicola Moody-McMillan, her high school sweetheart.

Incidentially, they married on Prank Day, which meant plenty of off-vibe mischief all afternoon.

Nicola's parents, Eddie and Kim, hosted the wedding at their home in the Bramblewood - a simple ceremony under a woodsy wedding arch placed beneath a tall oak in their backyard. Not far away laid the graves of Nicola's grandfathers, Ian and Derek, who had died a few years earlier in a riverboat cruise disaster.

It was a beautiful ceremony, but a cloud of dust kicked up as soon as the guests started blowing bubbles to celebrate the newlyweds! Nicola's mother, Kim, had taken the spirit of Prank Day to heart and started fights with multiple guests! "Mom!" Nicola cried. "This is a wedding, not a bar fight!" She was so embarrassed.

But her mother could not be controlled! (I was actually controlling her - it's OG Kim Goldbloom - but ignoring her to focus on the brides, and she picked three fights before I smartened up!) She started a few scuffles with unsuspecting guests, laughing uncontrollably each time she successfully executed her "pranks."

But the worst was when she jumped Hazel's dad, Neal. The successful civic designer and eco-innovator was having none of Kim's pranks, even if she was hosting their daughters' special day. He slapped her right back and man, these vibes are not it!

"Kim, my love, have some water." Finally, Eddie convinced his wife to cool off, and the guests changed into warmer attire before moving on to the food. Toddler cousins Ash and Michael, River and Cassandra's son, babbled away with each other in the backyard.

"So girls, will you both be starting work soon or enjoying married life for a while?" asked Daisy as she reached for a plate.

"We're going to enjoy being newlyweds for a few weeks, but Nicola will be a teacher's assistant at Henford Elementary when school starts up, and my internship with Mayor Varner starts soon."

"Are you going to be the mayor of Henford someday?" Uncle Karl considered the idea with pride on his face, but Hazel shook her head.

"My political goals are a bit more international," she admitted. "But for now I'm happy to stay home in Henford to get more experience."

"And they need teachers everywhere!" said Nicola with a loving smile to her new wife.

The brides saved money by asking Heather to take their wedding photos. She wasn't particularly good at photography and didn't even enjoy it, but Heather would do anything for her siblings - especially Hazel. She'd never say no to her 'friendship bracelet bestie,' and she snapped a beautiful portrait of the girls before sunset. They posed under a tree in the rock garden Hazel's mother, Daisy, had helped Nicola's grandfathers design years earlier.

"Did you want to switch sides?" asked Nicola, noting the burns on Hazel's right arm. She'd had them ever since she'd survived the Nesbitts' freak toilet fire as a child, but they'd never made confident Hazel self-conscious.

"They don't define me. If I wanted to hide them I'd have worn a long-sleeved dress."

When Heather and Conrad returned to Brindleton at the end of the night, he pulled her in for a kiss as they were enthusiastically greeted by Mayor Whiskers and Queen Cupcake. "Do you ever think about marriage?" he asked.

"I don't know. I know I love you and I'm committed to you. What difference does a piece of paper make?"

Conrad kissed her cheek. "I love you, too. I don't need a piece of paper to tell me we're a team."

They were happy. To Heather and Conrad, that's all that really mattered. ->

NOTE: I made all the Henford NPCs playable as soon as the game started, then made their replacements playable if and when there was story for it (like Heather's friend Dylan, who was the replacement NPC grocer until I aged her up to YA and she married Gavin Richards). Kim became the adopted daughter of Ian and Derek. Nicola and her brother both ended up looking a lot like their townie dad and not much like Kim at all, though. Ah well!

NOTE 2: Is Hazel wearing the same wedding dress as Holly in a slightly different poorly-rendering shade of white? Yes and I noticed it when writing this post. 🙃

NOTE 3: I'm not going for torture with the 'we don't need a piece of paper' thing, but the Gen 2 rules say Heather isn't supposed to get married! I already broke the rule that Gen 2 was supposed to hate the idea of relationships and only ever fail at them in addition to never marrying, but I don't know if I should go all in on breaking every rule. I'm hoping with their soulmate status it won't lead to anyone up and marrying someone else if I rotate for a day or two.

There's no denying that Cottage Living is my favourite pack, so it was only a matter of time that I made over Kim. She's so sweet and, in my head, very Welsh.

Funnily enough, I always want to type Kim Woodburn instead of Kim Goldbloom, but that'd be a very different lookbook...

So I’m reading Jurassic Park for the first time and … the movie was perfectly casted oh my god. I can’t help but picture them all when I read because when I tell you they captured the energy so well, I mean it.

Also something about Alan and Ellie meeting Ian and “we’re a trio now. Besties forever” the second they meet is iconic. The squad ever actually.

KIM: So what do we think, ladies? Will the Ice Queen cometh? SARA: Kim, c'mon. I think that she's actually rather lonely. KIM: Really? Up in that big old house of hers? SARA: Exactly. CECILIA: Does your bartender's intuition tell you that, orrrr the fact that her husband is an out-and-out wanker? [All three laugh.]

KIM: So. What do we think of her chances? CECILIA: If it weren't for the fast-paced nature of these things, I'd say fairly decent. But Araminta is quite reserved. KIM: Exactly. And everyone else is being so quick off the mark. If you ask me - whiiich you won't, but I'll say it anyway - she needs to act faster and sooner than she's ready for. CECILIA: Really? Before she is sure of the contents of his character, and of her own feelings? Why, how very Charlotte Lucas of you. KIM: I'm just stating the facts!

SARA: Anyway. More importantly, Team Leo or Team Dodo? KIM: Well, both are better than that hobbit, Celia. CECILIA: Agreed. For me, Team Dodo all the way. Leo would never let anyone come between him and his mirror. KIM: Really? I think that I could come between him and his mirror. CECILIA: Seriously, Kim? KIM: Oh, c'mon. Where's the risk-reward factor otherwise? People don't go to Leo because they want the white picket fence. I could fix him. CECILIA: Says woman who is worse. [Cecilia and Kim meet eyes, laugh]

ROSAMUND: Evening, ladies. Thank you for inviting me. I took the liberty of bringing a Tartosan vintage from our cellar. CECILIA: And we will most certainly liberate you of that Tartosan vintage. SARA: It's no trouble at all, Rosamund. We... we weren't sure if Richard would be at home, and if you might like the company. KIM: Speaking of which - won't Richard miss this, ahem, 'grape juice'? ROSAMUND: Oh well. What doesn't Richard miss this days? KIM: [quietly to Cecilia] I think she's already been pre-gamming.

KIM: Really? A solo date? And our girl is the one going? Henford-on-Bagley represent! CECILIA: A solo date if Leonardo doesn't show... KIM: Yeah, at this rate he's going to crash the wedding in a white gown of his own. And have a deeper cleavage than the bride. SARA: Well, it makes sense. You'd want to build the friendship first, wouldn't you? That's a good foundation for any relationship, don't you think? ROSAMUND: Ah. Ehm. Yes.

ROSAMUND: Oh. Oh my. KIM: Well he's not as smooth as his brother. That's for sure. SARA: I'd say that lack of artifice is refreshing. CECILIA: And I'd say that he's been eyeing her like some prize winning pumpkin ever since they arrived. SARA: Celia. Just how much have you drunk? ROSAMUND: Not enough, I'd say. At least for my part.

SARA: Oh my - look. He popped the question. And she's accepting! ROSAMUND: Oh dear. Oh my Watcher. This is something that no mother should ever have to see... KIM: More grape juice, Rosamund? Or something stronger? ROSAMUND: Definitely something stronger. In fact, I think that I shall get it myself. Cecilia, if you don't mind? CECILIA: It's okay - they're doing the good old 'Fade to Black.' ROSAMUND: I still have seen too much...

ROSAMUND: Well, thank you ladies for having me. And to you of course, Cecilia, for hosting. SARA: Our pleasure, Rosamund. Same time tomorrow night then? CECILIA: Nice of you to offer up my house like that. KIM: You're the only free woman among us all. Of course it has to be you. Can you imagine how our husbands would react if we're cheering this on like some football match? ROSAMUND: Oh, I think that I can do you one better. Richard should be out for the night. CECILIA: Then don't mind if we do.

KIM: Well. That went better than I thought. On every count. CECILIA: Yes. She - Rosamund, although both are applicable, I suppose - was clearly trying. It was rather sweet. SARA: And she has excellent taste in grape juice. CECILIA: Just between us femme Sims. Why do you think she's still with her husband? KIM: Well it can't be for the WooHoo, that's for sure. I'd be smiling a lot more if it were the WooHoo. Normally she could outcurdle Agnes. SARA: Kim. KIM: Okay okay, I admit. She was actually alright company. And who knows? If we keep her around, we may get some real dirt...

Dear Diary,

If prom was awesome, the afterparty was even awesomer. We all went to Arun's place and hung out in the basement. I learned how to play beer pong, and I'm really bad at it. I also learned how to do a line - I'd never done coke before but Arun had some and everyone else was trying it, so I thought, why not, right? It was crazy. I can't even describe it. But it gave me the courage to go and kiss Ava, right in front of everyone. And she kissed me back! We even made out in a closet.

What an awesome night.

I overshot my curfew a bit and didn't get back until the sun was up. My moms were PISSED. I'm grounded for like a month. WORTH IT!

Sims In Bloom: Generation 1 Pt. 9 (New Pets & Summer Fun!)

The Pancake kids struggled in the wake of their mother’s death, so Neal proposed an idea to Bob that he’d come up with on a past visit to Brindleton Bay for Ralph’s check up. He’d met Catarina Munch-Lynx, who was hoping to rehome kittens born to her Abyssinian, Josie. Bob and Neal took all six kids to Brindleton to greet Josie’s litter, and before the night was done the Pancakes went home with the only girl, Harley. Daisy was surprised, but not that shocked, when Neal and the kids walked in the door with Boomer, Harley’s brother – a fluffy white kitten both talkative and friendly.

Daisy’s birthday came and went without a celebration – it didn’t feel right with everyone still reeling from Eliza’s sudden death. Neal and Daisy convinced Bob to join them and some friends for a trip to the Romance Festival in San Myshuno without the kids. He agreed to go, but his grief was still too raw, and his hatred of crowds was amplified. He left early, and they apologized all the way home. He wasn’t ready to move on, and they understood. They couldn’t imagine what he was going through, and hoped they had decades before they’d need to find out.

The Nesbitts spent Family Day together at home, with Neal teaching River to ride a bike just like his older sisters. River, Holly, and Heather all suffered from asthma, and Heather had allergies to half the plant life in their garden, but they never let it stop them from enjoying the outdoors just like their parents. Sure, they could all find more enjoyment from the television and computer than either of their nature-loving parents, but never at the expense of fresh air activities. Henford’s air was so clean, a perfect place for their young lungs even with asthma and allergies.

Inquisitive Hazel always wanted to learn and cried when no one could read her flash cards. She was just like her studious elder siblings, but Neal and Daisy made sure the kids had fun. To celebrate the waning days of summer, they hosted a barbeque for half the town. They set up a projector and a bedsheet in the yard so the kids could watch a movie under the stars with their friends, set up a portable bar and served ribs, grilled fruit, even sugar cookies for dessert.

The weather was perfect that day, and Daisy's cowplant was happily fed and on its best behaviour. Everyone had a blast and begged for them to host another one next year. The whole town even chipped in to buy the Nesbitts an expensive grill, and the Annual Henford Cookout was born.

Heather reached her teens soon after, and her parents got her a medical station to teach herself vet skills when she wasn’t doing schoolwork or trying to wrap her mind around computer programming – far from her best subject. But programming could help her mod her favourite video games, a prospect which drove geeky Heather forward. As independent as ever, Heather loved keeping herself busy, but she loved spending time with her family and their pets, too. Ralph, King Tut, and Boomer were all well behaved, and got along with each other as well as their humans did.

Now that Daisy and Neal had a teenager, would life be any different at home? ->
