Zebra Technologies and enterprise AI in the APAC - AI News
New Post has been published on https://thedigitalinsider.com/zebra-technologies-and-enterprise-ai-in-the-apac-ai-news/
Zebra Technologies and enterprise AI in the APAC - AI News
Enterprise AI transformation is reaching a tipping point. In the Asia Pacific, Zebra Technologies has unveiled ambitious plans to change frontline operations across the region. At a time when CISQ estimates poor software quality will cost US businesses $2.41 trillion in 2022, the push for practical, results-driven AI implementation is urgent.
“Elements of our three-pillar strategy have been around for quite some time, but what’s revolutionising the frontline today is intelligent automation,” Tom Bianculli, Chief Technology Officer at Zebra Technologies, told reporters at a briefing during Zebra’s 2025 Kickoff in Perth, Australia last week. “We’re not just digitising workflows – we’re connecting wearable technology with robotic workflows, enabling frontline workers to seamlessly interact with automation in ways that were impossible just five years ago.”
Practical applications driving change
The real-world impact of enterprise AI transformation is already evident in Zebra’s recent collaboration with a major North American retailer. The solution combines traditional AI with generative AI capabilities, enabling fast shelf analysis and automated task generation.
“You snap a picture of a shelf, [and] within one second, the traditional AI identifies all the products on the shelf, identifies where there’s missing product, maybe misplaced product… and then it makes that information available to a Gen AI agent that then decides what should you do,” Bianculli explains.
This level of automation has demonstrated significant operational improvements, reducing staffing requirements at the retailer by 25%. When it detects missing stock, the system automatically generates tasks for the right personnel, streamlining what was previously a multi-step manual process.
APAC leading AI adoption
The Asia Pacific region is emerging as a frontrunner in enterprise AI transformation. IBM research presented at the briefing indicates that 54% of APAC enterprises now expect AI to deliver longer-term innovation and revenue generation benefits. The region’s AI investment priorities for 2025 are clearly defined:
– 21% focused on enhancing customer experiences
– 18% directed toward business process automation
– 16% invested in sales automation and customer lifecycle management
Ryan Goh, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Asia Pacific at Zebra Technologies, points to practical implementations that are already driving results: “We have customers in e-commerce using ring scanners to scan packages, significantly improving their productivity compared to traditional scanning methods.”
Innovation at the edge
Zebra’s approach to AI deployment encompasses:
– AI devices with native neural architecture for on-device processing
– Multimodal experiences that mirror human cognitive capabilities
– Gen AI agents optimising workload distribution between edge and cloud
The company is advancing its activities in edge computing, with Bianculli revealing plans for on-device language models. This innovation mainly targets environments where internet connectivity is restricted or prohibited, ensuring AI capabilities remain accessible regardless of network conditions.
Regional market dynamics
The enterprise AI transformation journey varies significantly across APAC markets. India’s landscape is particularly dynamic, with the country’s GDP projected to grow 6.6% and manufacturing expected to surge by 7% YOY. Its commitment to AI is evident, with 96% of organisations surveyed by WEF actively running AI programmes.
Japan presents a different scenario, with 1.2% projected GDP growth and some unique challenges to automation adoption. “We used to think that tablets are for retail, but the Bay Area proved us wrong,” Goh notes, highlighting unexpected applications in manufacturing and customer self-service solutions.
Future trajectory
Gartner’s projections indicate that by 2027, 25% of CIOs will implement augmented connected workforce initiatives that will halve the time required for competency development. Zebra is already moving in this direction with its Z word companion, which uses generative AI and large language models and is scheduled for pilot deployment with select customers in Q2 of this year.
With a global presence spanning 120+ offices in 55 countries and 10,000+ channel partners across 185 countries, Zebra is positioned play strongly in the enterprise AI transformation across APAC. As the region moves from AI experimentation to full-scale deployment, the focus remains on delivering practical innovations that drive measurable business outcomes and operational efficiency.

Valve’s marketing booklet confirms a Steam Deck 2 is inevitable
Forward-seeking: Speculation around a successor to the Steam Deck has circulated at any time because Valve introduced its handheld Personal computer. The business gave the strongest affirmation nonetheless this week that it plans to stick to up its transportable components, but without having declaring when.
On Thursday, Valve launched a booklet about the Steam Deck that touches on the company’s designs for future variations of the device. It did not supply a lot of specifics, but Valve is just not stopping at just one particular Deck.
Valve wrote the marketing and advertising booklet to clarify the firm’s and Steam Deck’s style goals to audiences in Asian territories like Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. It includes a concise description of Valve, Steam, and the Steam Deck for audiences who are quite possibly fewer common with them. It is out there for download in English , Japanese , Korean , and Chinese .
The final web page appears toward the potential, contacting the Steam Deck a “multi-generational item line.” Valve explicitly confirms rumors of Steam Deck successors that emerged previously this calendar year. The company plans to boost hardware and application in upcoming iterations even though making sure that subsequent Steam Decks can nonetheless accessibility the exact application and video games as the inaugural unit.
“Steam Deck signifies the initially in a new class of Steam handheld gaming PCs. In the upcoming, Valve will stick to up on this products with enhancements and iterations to hardware and software program, bringing new variations of Steam Deck to current market. Like the original, and like all PCs, these foreseeable future products will carry on to present accessibility to the identical Steam sport catalog that players previously know and appreciate.”
In March, Valve manager Gabe Newell mentioned he interpreted the good results of the Steam Deck’s most high-priced model as evidence consumers were intrigued in increased-close variants. He also expressed hopes for VR ability in a upcoming design.
June rumors recommended AMD is operating on an APU that could be the successor to the Steam Deck’s “Van Goh” processor. It would feature more rapidly RAM and efficiency gains from AMD’s approaching RDNA 3 GPU architecture. Data about the chip implies a launch towards the finish of 2023 or later on, which is fantastic. The current Steam Deck is nowhere close to meeting its need, so Valve is not likely to substitute it soon.
The Steam Deck just isn’t the only or the initial handheld gaming Computer system, while its level of popularity may possibly have stirred up the nascent sector. GamePad Electronic (GPD) lately unveiled two new styles of its Win collection: the GPD Acquire Max 2, which seems to be like a mini notebook with analog sticks, and the GPD Get 4 , wanting far more like a Sony PSP with a keyboard. The Max 2 functions some of the same chips as the Steam Deck but is a bit more robust. It could finally help Valve’s Steam OS. Other alternatives like the Ayaneo 2 and AYN Loki Zero have also emerged.
Aside from the handheld models, Valve also reiterated its ideas to spread the Steam Deck’s advancements to classic PCs. Its consumer interface will kind the foundation of a new edition of Steam’s Significant Picture manner. Shortly, Chromebooks will also be able to perform online games employing a Steam Deck-derived compatibility layer.

Trump, Xi upbeat on trade after phone call; U.S. targets more Chinese firms
WASHINGTON/BEIJING (Reuters) – U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping, who spoke by telephone on Thursday, expressed optimism about resolving their trade dispute ahead of a high-stakes meeting at the end of November in Argentina.
FILE PHOTO: Trucks transport containers next to a container ship at a port in Zhoushan, Zhejiang province, China October 31, 2018. REUTERS/Stringer
But within hours of upbeat assessment, the U.S. Justice Department took aim at another Chinese firm it accused of unfair practices, part of an across-the-board pressure campaign by the Trump administration targeting China.
Still, investors cheered the resumption of dialogue and a report that Trump was taking steps to resolve the tariff war, with shares in Asia hitting three-week highs on Friday and the dollar softening.
Trump said on Twitter that trade discussions with China were “moving along nicely,” and that he planned to meet Xi on the sidelines of a G20 summit, in Argentina, after the two had a “very good” phone discussion.
Bloomberg, citing people familiar with the matter, later reported that Trump wants to reach a trade agreement with China at the G20 meeting and that after the call with Xi, he had asked officials to begin drafting possible terms.
The news agency said it was not clear if Trump was easing up on demands that China has resisted, and it cited one person as saying intellectual property theft was a sticking point on a possible deal.
In comments in state media, Xi said he hoped China and the United States would be able to promote a steady and healthy relationship, and that he was willing to meet Trump in Argentina.
“The two countries’ trade teams should strengthen contact and conduct consultations on issues of concern to both sides, and promote a plan that both can accept to reach a consensus on the China-U.S. trade issue,” Xi said on CCTV state television.
Xi was quoted as saying after the call with Trump that they had hoped to expand trade cooperation.
Neither leader specified any details of possible progress in their first known direct discussion in several months.
Trump administration officials have said that trade talks with China cannot resume until it comes up with specific actions it is willing take to meet U.S. demands for sweeping changes to policies on technology transfers, industrial subsidies and market access.
The two countries have imposed tariffs on hundreds of billions of dollars of each other’s goods and Trump has threatened to put tariffs on the remainder of China’s $500 billion-plus exports to the United States if the disputes cannot be resolved.
Jacob Parker, vice president of China operations at the U.S.-China Business Council in Beijing, said there were plenty of challenges that would require significant negotiations in advance of a meeting between Trump and Xi to ensure success.
“What negotiations have lacked to date has been that (presidential) level of engagement. If President Trump makes an agreement with President Xi, there is nobody above them to overturn it,” he said.
“We’re optimistic this is a potential off-ramp of increasingly antagonistic trade tensions and hope it leads to a pause and new negotiations,” he said.
Tu Xinquan, a trade expert at Beijing’s University of International Business and Economics, said he was sceptical that the Trump administration was truly ready to deal, and that other factors, such as the mid-term congressional elections, could be driving statements from the administration.
“The best situation (from a Trump-Xi meeting) would be no further actions, temporarily. But the tariffs already imposed will not go away,” Tu said.
INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY THEFT
Just after the upbeat readouts of the Trump-Xi call, the Justice Department announced the latest in a list of actions against what the Trump administration calls China’s cheating through intellectual property theft, unfair corporate subsidies and rules hampering U.S. corporations in China.
A Justice Department indictment targeted two companies based in China and Taiwan and three individuals, saying they conspired to steal trade secrets from U.S. semiconductor company Micron Technology Inc.
This week, prosecutors announced an indictment against 10 defendants, including two Chinese intelligence officers and other computer hackers and co-conspirators, who are all accused of breaking into American company computers to steal data on a turbo fan engine used in commercial jetliners.
On Wednesday, U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said China was probably Washington’s biggest long-term security challenge and the United States was engaged in a “multi-pronged effort … to convince China to behave like a normal nation on commerce” and respect international law.
But Trump struck a more affable tone on Twitter after the phone call with Xi.
“Just had a long and very good conversation with President Xi Jinping of China. We talked about many subjects, with a heavy emphasis on Trade,” Trump tweeted. “Those discussions are moving along nicely with meetings being scheduled at the G-20 in Argentina. Also had good discussion on North Korea!”
Slideshow (6 Images)
Earlier this week, Trump said he thought there would be “a great deal” with China on trade, but warned that he had billions of dollars worth of new tariffs ready to go if a deal did not materialize.
The United States has imposed tariffs on $250 billion worth of Chinese goods, with duties on $200 billion of the total set to increase to 25 percent from 10 percent on Jan. 1, 2019.
China has responded with retaliatory duties on $110 billion worth of U.S. goods.
