Holika Dahan, Palaj Village, Gandhinagar. #HolikaDahan also Kamudu pyre is celebrated by burning Holika, an asura. For many traditions in #Hinduism, #Holi celebrates the killing of Holika in order to save Prahlad, a devotee of #GodVishnu and thus Holi gets its name. https://www.instagram.com/p/CbPAXyzP6nm/?utm_medium=tumblr

India's Largest Functioning Temple in Srirangam - Lord Vishnu
Tumblr media
Temples are an intricate part of India’s history and culture. India is blessed with countless temples, each of which has its significance. However, some temples stand out from others because of their architecture, vastness, larger-than-life image or religious value. Among such temples is the Sri Ranganathaswamy temple, renowned for its magnificent architecture and magnitude.
The Ranganathaswamy temple Srirangam is dedicated to Ranganatha, which is a resting form of God Vishnu. Situated on an island surrounded by the majestic Kaveri and Kollidam, the Srirangam temple in Tamil Naidu is the largest functioning Hindu temple complex in the world. Even though factually, Angor Wat in Cambodia has the largest temple complex, it is not active.
The entire Srirangam temple has been constructed in Dravidian style and is one of the largest temples of God Vishnu in India with a sprawling area of 156 acres.
Facts about India’s largest functioning Ranganathaswamy temple in Srirangam
The temple has 21 huge towers and 39 pavilions. The tallest of them all, Rajagopuram (height 236 feet) is one of the main towers of the temple and is also the second-highest tower in Asia.
According to history, Lord Rama handed over the Ranganathaswamy deity, which he worshipped for years, to King Vibhishana after he defeated Ravana. And while the King was returning to Lanka, Vishnu God appeared before him and told him he wished to stay in the temple as Ranganatha.
The temple was looted by the Delhi Sultanate in the early 14th century and was rebuilt at the end of the 14th century and further in the 16th and 17th centuries.
The entire temple complex has 38 buildings, 50 holy shrines, many ponds, 9 sacred Pushkaran, several interesting mural paintings and a hall of 1000 pillars, also known as 'Ayiram Kaal mandapam'.
The complex of Ranganathaswamy temple in Srirangam is always bustling with people, brahmins, small shops, flower stalls, shops selling idols of Gods and various food places.
Inside the temple, there are intricate and age-old carvings that leave people in awe of the architecture.
That said, India’s largest functioning temple complex is open for all people at all times. However, there are specific timings for visiting shrines. Darshans normally begin at 9:00 am and end at 8:45 pm, with small breaks in the middle. Moreover, the magnificence, glory and liveliness of Srirangam are mesmerising. Among the 365 days in a year, more than 322 days host some festive celebrations in Ranganathaswamy temple Srirangam.
Accessibility and accommodation in India’s largest functioning temple
People who wish to visit the Ranganathaswamy temple in Srirangam can take a flight, train or bus. There is a train and bus station in Srirangam, while the nearest airport is at Trichy (Tiruchirapalli). Srirangam is close to Trichy and takes nearly 30 minutes by bus or taxi.
For accommodation, there are many affordable lodges in Srirangam. Visitors can also choose to stay in Trichy and commute from there to visit one of the biggest temples of Lord Vishnu in India.

Video

Hi viewers, I love GOD Krishna/ Vishnu, I love to draw him as supreme of all powers. I have tried to draw a beautiful pose of God Vishnu Ji. I hope you like it as well. This is my most time taking art video,  because of the size of the paper sheet. I took approx 40 hours to finish this.
Supreme Being, Parabrahman, God of Protection, Preservation of Good, The Reality, Controller of entire Universe, Karma restoration, Moksha Vishnu, also known as Adideva (lit. 'the primaeval god'), is one of the principal deities of Hinduism. The "preserver" in the Hindu triad (Trimurti),
Vishnu is revered as the supreme being in Vaishnavism[7][8] as identical to the metaphysical concept of Brahman (Atman, the self, or unchanging ultimate reality), and is notable for adopting various incarnations (such avatars as Rama and Krishna) to preserve and protect dharmic principles whenever the world is threatened with evil, chaos, and destructive forces.[9] In the Smarta Tradition of Hinduism, Vishnu is also one of the five equivalent deities worshipped in Panchayatana puja.[8]
