Idk what's up with S-Class fandom, but lately all the HJYJ fics I used to read and thought they're not updating anymore has been updating. 💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖

I'm not complaining, I'M CELEBRATING! (shameless HJYJ fanfic promoting here, don't mind me)

I especially love "Last Gambit" from Heliotrope. Seriously, if you love S-Class novel, you have to read this fic. I love their writing style so much, it's always detailed & the way they portray the characters are really spot on. I love love love loooooooove how they wrote Sung Hyunje in the fic. It really feels like it's Sung Hyunje, like it's what SHJ would do.

They recently have been updating again with GODSPEED, bless them, I've been blessed by amazing HJYJ scenes 💖💖💖💖 and if you have read Last Gambit & loves it, you should check out other fics from Heliotrope, they're all fun to read!

I've also been reading fics from FallLover, Raise a Glass Get a Guildmaster is finally done. Then there's a new fic To Love and to Cherish, that's a new concept of HJYJ osananajimi AU, which is unique & really puts into perspective how weird Han Yoojin actually is.

To Everything I've Ever Lost & I'm Relieved I Left My Room Tidy are also recently been updated again. Both these fics are my favorites bcs they explore the possibilities of what happens if Yoojin accepted the fact that Yoohyun doesn't need him and ran away to disappear from Yoohyun's life when they cut contacts. (As a bonus, one of them has Sung Hyunje/Song Taewon pairing lol)

Of course there are other HJYJ fanfic as well, I can't put them all here, so I'm only posting some of my recent favorites. But there are some good, sweet HJYJ oneshots in ao3 as well if you don't want to commit to a long read.

who had his little freakout on his first date with tommy and went to talk to his sister who literally told him "now you're more than an ally" and that maybe he's not sure of his feelings but he'll figure them out. (sidenote: she should have said identity instead of feelings. but whatever.)

who has been in a relationship with his boyfriend for six months

who has been known to go on research binges because he has a curious mind and loves learning. tommy's sarcastic "oh good, you found a substack" tells us everything we need to know, y'all.

who has at least one very close queer friend and co-worker, hen fucking wilson; and one friend/acquaintance who is a queer man (we don't know how much he sees josh outside of visiting maddie at dispatch, and like, that one time he hang out with him and maddie and chimney, so it's a little bit up to fanon to decide if they're friend-friends but at the end of the day it is a trusted person and an openly gay man. i mean, we saw how josh stood up for tommy, and schooled the fuck out of buck. finally, a conversation about being queer between two canonically queer characters! only took 8 seasons, huh! i digress.)

and have i mentioned he's been dating his boyfriend for six months? like, if he was ever to have a conversation about being queer... tommy is right there. tommy opened up about his own experience figuring out his sexuality and coming out on their very first date and moreover reassured buck it's okay if he's feeling a little tense about them being out on a date in a public place.

point being: there are people in his life who would be more than happy to talk to him about his newfound identity outside of his relationship with tommy.

taking all of these things into consideration: it's not only inconsistent with the character they have established, but the timeline of it is also really fucking messed up.

and more than that: any faith i may have had in this show to handle a delicate matter like a character exploring their newfound sexuality has flown out the window. they broke the audience's trust with 8x06. i'm not interested in seeing how they're going to move this story forward, because 8x06 was such a particular fuck up, beginning to end, wrt the bucktommy storyline.

and honestly? knowing the format 911 follows, as a network procedural: this is not the right medium to tell this story, at this point in the timeline, because it has become way more complicated than it would have been in s7, immediately following buck's bisexual awakening.

tldr: the premise is sound but the execution is so bad it's practically unsalvageable within the scope of the show (but very manageable in fanfiction, where you can dwell in the character's headspace and dig into what goes on beyond the things they say and do. godspeed, everyone <3)

Development Update - September 2024

Hello folks! Miyazaki checking in with our development updates for the month of September. Between getting our newest art team member onboarded, cooking up some really exciting Fall Quarter concept art, a new color, and a new Mutation, it's been a really creative month for us.

Koa and Sark are hard at work on the back end, creating the systems that power the game. We've got functioning inventories, and Koa was able to have a Beast successfully use a healing potion in the Wild Area! I'm making headway on our intro quest, working in tandem with the art team to create assets to bring our very first area to life.

All in all: some solid progress this month!

Inventory System

This month, we focused on refining Mythaura’s inventory system, with special attention on making starting items function as expected. One of the most exciting additions is the Satchel feature. The satchel begins with 18 slots and can be expanded using non-premium currency, allowing for plenty of space to bring essentials on your adventures.

When preparing to explore, only provisions can be transferred from your stash to the satchel, but along the way, you’ll be able to pick up and store all types of loot. Additionally, the first row of your satchel is now displayed as a hotbar while exploring, enabling quick use of items like the Godspeed Potion, which boosts your movement speed, or a Torch to light your way in the dark.

However, be cautious—if you’re defeated while exploring, you’ll drop your satchel, leaving your items behind. You’ll need to return to the floor you were defeated on to recover it. If you’re defeated again before retrieving your original satchel, those items will be lost for good.

New Mutation: Celestial

Astrology plays no small part in Mythauran culture, so perhaps it's not such a surprise that the genes of some Beasts born in Mythaura are mutated to show a map of brightly glowing constellations around their bodies.

As a reminder, Mutations are not Specials that can be applied via item. Instead, a Beast can rarely be born with a Mutation or they can rarely be obtained via a late-game boss encounter.

The month of October is referred to as Greenbright's Close, representing the official beginning of autumn and the winding down of greenery as foliage turns gold and red. This month is also associated with the constellation of the Physician and the malachite stone.

infatuation on a mutual level by @harrygoeswest i really loooved this one by katie its so lovely and sweet and fun, i read it in one sitting i was truly hooked, i can't find a way to link her other stories in one go but check them out they're all great!!!

cloudbusting by @starsstruck is one of my all all time faves, i re-read it often. its such a lovely story with really interesting characters and a really lovely love story that makes you want to scream in the best way possible. charlotte has a way of writing really palpable chemistry, i can't find a way to link a masterlist of hers but one of her shorter fics blue dream is one of my faves as well

The Northern Bastards: Part 6. Series Complete.

Let us be honest with one another. I saw two unpleasant northern white guys and then blacked out for a few months to write an angst and smut laden long fic as a character exploration to address their emotional issues. Good times. I'm sure this doesn't say anything about things I need to personally unpack in real life.

Thank you to everyone who has been so kind about the writing in this unexpected series, I reckon it's the best character and thematic work I've ever written so far haha. I really hope this does the resolution justice for anyone that has been following along, I pulled out all the stops I could think of, and I thank anyone who hasn't if you have stuck around in spite of this indulgent, questionable, and oddly meaningful interlude.

It has "Goodbye" in the title. I've marked the series as "Complete". The summary says it's their final meeting and it even has "Enemies to Lovers" and "Explicit Consent" tags. If you still think this isn't the last installment, well well, looks like I'm not the one in denial after all...

Anyway, here it is. The finale. The climax. The Sixth Night Stand.

Current on MSQ for Dawntrail! No spoilers, I did enjoy it a lot and actually think it's structurally stronger than Endwalker.

Not perfect--imo the Scions and WoL in particular seriously lacked development. Two pitfalls I've seen in characterization with more experienced creators have been treating characters like 'voices of reason' (so they're presumed right about basically anything they say) and defining characterization off of external conflict. So when that conflict isn't there, the person has no idea who the character is or how else they could possibly grow and change. It looks like that may be happening with WoL and Scions imo, and shit's frustrating because it's not necessary when they all have underutilized angles to explore. I am still very sure Lahabrea is returning imminently so it's not like I don't have any idea where the story could go in the future lol. I do think Square Enix has been pretty bad about pacing that overall though, contributed mainly by Endwalker. As a follow-up to defeating the cosmic incarnation of existential despair, saving a person and going more intimate would be a beautiful follow-up imo. But in the meantime, it feels like there are some insane missed opportunities with the Scions and Warrior of Light like I said. Endwalker felt like SE was rushing on the one hand, and on the other didn't know how to organize to have enough time to adequately address everything they wanted to at the quality level they wanted to. Dawntrail I think they told a really lovely story for Tural (and everything around Plan 9), foiled phenomenally with what preceded and sets the stage for what I anticipate. I really love everything surrounding Mamook. I like Wuk Lamat and think she radiates shonen hero energy lol. I'm not surprised some people don't like her but also you can't please everyone and I think she's very well constructed as a character so fuk da haterz. While I'm still living in Lahaland, if people don't do Wuk Lamat/Sphene what is even the point of fandom really? I have seen the Bakool Ja Ja thirsting. I am not thirsting, but find it hilarious and say godspeed to people who are. Do think Bakool Ja Ja is a good character.

When a certain character was killed because their opponent had a spare life, I was basically screaming at the screen LET ME FIGHT I CAN TAKE HIM. Today was the launch of NASA's Europa Clipper and I'm- 🥹🥹🥹 I'm feeling all the emotions rn. It was such a beautiful launch! 😭😭😭 I'm so proud of all the hard work that went into this venture!

And now the lil guy (actually their biggest space probe) is setting off on its long journey towards Jupiter to study the Galilean moon Europa! They wanna confirm the existence of an ocean beneath its icy crust and explore the potential for finding life beyond Earth!

Top 5 Flash Villains

As most people know, The Flash is a hero with a deep rogues gallery. It is one of the deepest on the DC roster. A lot of that attention has been highlighted by the show, which ran for 9 seasons and over 800 singular comic book issues. That means there are plenty of choices and different variations to choose from. These are the 5 that having read so many Flash stories stand out the most.

5. Captain Cold - Infamously known for banding a group of supervillains together and giving the Flash one hell of an oppontent. His backstory is tragic, and a life of petty crime left him on a collision course with The Flash time and time again. He is effective as a villain because he continues to find ways to combat the Flash and his powers while always staying one step ahead.

4. Mirror Master 2- The second version of this character, Evan McCulloch, is the version most fans will know. Evan grew up in an orphanage and killed an older boy during his stay there. He later turned to a life of crime and was offered by the US government the chance to have the Mirror Master suit and weapons. He later goes up against Wally West, where he taps into the Mirror Dimension. This allows him to travel to various dimensions through reflective surfaces, making it hard for Wally to anticpate his next move.

3. Cicada- So many fans know the show version, but the comic book version is truly such a violent and destructive person. He was born in the late 1800s and was a preacher. He was known for violent and aggressive preaching and brought that violence home to his wife. On the night, he killed her then wanted to take his own life but was struck by lightning, granting immortality. During the lightning strike, he saw that he was destined to live on forever with his wife. His goal is to kill anyone the Flash ever saved by absorbing their energy with the goal of bringing his wife back from the dead.

2. Godspeed- A one-time friend of Barry Allen turned enemy speedster, August Heart is probably the most well-rounded of the speedster villains. The key difference is that after August is struck by Speedforce lightning, his methods become more violent than those of the Flash. That leads to the ultimate confrontation among friends after having been through so much together. Godspeed has truly become an iconic Flash villain in such a short amount of time because of the emotional storyline within which his villain arc was crafted.

1. Gorilla Grodd- Who doesn't like super hyper intelligent telekinetic Gorilla's? Come on. That immediately gives him a spot on the list but the idea for Grodd is that he wants his sanctuary back. Once explorers find Gorilla City, Grodd is forced to do what he feels is necessary to help his species survive. In various appearances over the years he has continued to be a formidable foe to both Barry Allen and Wally West, making him one of the most versatile and adaptable Flash villains. He is also the sole person responsible for a villainous turn in Hunter Zolomon as he left him paralyzed during an attack. This means Grodd not only challenged the Flash in his own right but subsequently provided Wally West with one of his toughest foes in Zoom. As said above, who doesn't like genius intellect level gorillas that want to take over the world.

I wrote one (1) fic where I explored dissociative amnesia based on my own experiences and it was such a nerve wracking thing 😭 to this day I'm still scared someone's gonna get upset w me about it.

Oh do I know that feeling! Every day I live in fear that some freak is gonna type out a callout for me, because I draw Vlad with self harm scars :,) Sometimes I consider deleting my entire blog just to prevent that from ever happening.... It can be haunting to share your lived experience through fanart, since people will either be assholes about you projecting (best case scenario), or they'll construct a narrative where you, the person suffering with these issues, are the sole reason mentally ill people aren't taken seriously. As if living what you write/draw about wasn't harrowing enough....

I hope soon the day will come when you, myself, and anyone else will be confident and comfortable sharing our life through fan works of our comfort characters in peace. Just like you saw my posts and felt seen, I can promise you others will find your work and see themselves, and their struggles, in it! It's people like you that make me less afraid to be myself online :) and I think your art (if you wish to share it) will make others more at ease too <3 We are all just humans living our human life, but not all aspects of life will be shown in mainstream fiction, so it's up to us internet weirdos to take it upon ourselves to share our experiences! first of all you are so brave and i’m wishing you the best of luck bc i also cannot write lab reports to save my life and i love science and write for a hobby so idk how that happened but godspeed! secondddd i dooooo think both mike and will who are smarty smart nerds and losers probably are interested by the subject in a very abstract kind of way — aka they probably think it’s super cool but have no real desire to explore that further in a classroom environment. i do also think that their colleges’ gen ed requirements probably mean that they have to take some kind of science class for natural science credits or something but i think they both cheat the system a little by getting those through classes without that time demand! a very personal and self indulgent hc of mine is that mike is a marine biology enthusiast so he probably takes marbio 100 or something freshman year :^) i think my school also has likeee a dino class (?) that is known for being very easy but very interesting and he absolutely for sure takes something like that as well! to me will also takes something that is easy On Purpose bc he is getting a graphic design degree and will not need this class as a prerequisite for anything but to me he’s an astro 100 guy through and through. maybe even 150 or 200 if he likes his prof and the material!

tldr - in this universe they definitely do not take a bio class in college (unless marbio and its subsequent lab counts) bc it’s not required for their degree and it’s probably also very time intensive/a threat to their gpas that they are smart enough to avoid but i do think they have an interest in science and scratch that itch through other classes to knock their general education requirements out of the way!

1. Definitely would’ve loved to see more of the Otherworld! Like, Netflix literally had it in the name — a whole other world — and they chose to just give us the tiniest of glimpses into it?! Egregious. Literal robbery. There was a whole globe of places to explore.

Also, the possibilities for Flora (hehe) and fauna!! We got a really underwhelming jumble of plants and herbs for healing and combat, sure, but where’s the alchemy?! Are there lust or luck potions? Invisibility potions… can a light fairy just bottle that shit up and sell it to give a non-fairy 30 seconds of invisibility? Same for other fairies! Can I, a civilian, just go to a shop and buy a fireball? Or would this be more underground/black market stuff — bc not everyone can be fairies, right.

Also we only saw bad/evil creatures (+ the contents of Sky and Silva’s stable). But where are the mermaids?! Sirens, phoenixes, harpies.. can mice have antlers? Can gators have fur? Where’s our bestiary, I need to know.

2. Oooh there are so many fandom headcanons for this that I love. But one of the things (that maybe hasn’t been explored as much?) I feel would be a big wedge that drives tensions between them in the future is Musa throwing herself into being a specialist to avoid confronting her magic.

We know Netflix loved to add things and then never follow through on them and I think one of those would be not following up on Riven’s extremely strong reaction to Musa saying she wants to be a specialist. Like, he tried to drive that point home to her particularly brutally for someone who’s blasé about so many things (well, except the existence of mind fairies in general lol).

And sure, the quickest takeaway from that reaction was the ‘protective’ side of it, showing Musa that fighting is brutal and her safety is not something to play around with and that he might even fear for that safety…

But I do think there’s more than a bit of hurt pride and resentment in his reaction too. I think it showed how important being a specialist was to Riven. That it’s something he’s put so much work into, something that he truly excels at, and for her to just claim something he owns with his entire being as a last resort for being magic-less after a few days?? That’s insulting af. The fact that Dane didn’t see as big of a problem with it while Riven did also further drives that home.

So yeah, even though the end of s2 showed us what sparring could look like for those two (which is indeed delicious), I do think some of the resentment from that moment would bubble up for Riven the longer Musa continues to avoid her powers (no matter how talented she is).
