Imagine you and Strife coming back home after seeing "Across the Spider-Verse".

Strife: *pumped* Wow. Now that...was something else!

You: What did I tell you?

Strife: (grabbing your waist and pulling you closer) That it's a cinematic masterpiece and that I should see it because I'd love it.

You: (holding at his nape) And I was right.

Strife: *tenderly* And you were right. I have such a smart girlfriend.

You: (leaning in so that your foreheads touch) Which one of the Spiders was your fave?

Strife: Probably Hobie. Kid's got his head screwed on right. I could see a bit of myself in him, back from when I was younger...

You: *excited*: I KNOW RIGHT? He's the best!

Strife: So...you like him?

You: I mean, how could you not? He's just so EFFORTLESSLY COOL, ya know? He's such a lanky, guitar-wielding, rule-breaking, not-giving-a-crap force of nature! And don't get me started on that AMAZING HAIR -

Strife: *guarded* Oh. You do like him.

You: Well yeah, I went to see him in cinema two times already! Uh, Strife, gotta pee. Let go.

Strife: (lets you slip between his lowered forearms and watches as you happily trot off to the bathroom)

Fury: (enters stage left, as she would) Ah, you're back already. How was the movie?

Strife: *gloomily* Great. Just fucking peachy. I've been cast aside for a younger guy.

someone probably said this already but in spiderverse i think it's interesting how when pavitr was first introduced everyone thought something bad was gonna happen to him bc of how confident and optimistic he was. and then in the actual movie we see that something bad was supposed to happen to him (police chief dying!) but it doesn't! miles stops it! and miguel berates miles for this, says it's going to cause the universe to collapse or whatever.

there's this idea that tragedy is inherent to spidermans growth, and while it's true that some spiderpeople learn important lessons through loss, no one stops to ask, is it really necessary? yeah, maybe the chief was supposed to die. but why does spiderman have to be formed through tragedy? why do we (as heroes) have to let people die? pavitr didn't lose anyone, and he's still a good spiderman! maybe, if he doesn't suffer, he'll end up better off for it!

so while miguel is arguing for all this big picture stuff about saving the multiverse he's lost sight of what it really means to be a spiderman, he's not looking out for the real individual people. yeah it's just one person who would die, but that one person means something to someone. shrugging and saying "stuff just sucks sometimes, we can't do anything about it" is the opposite of what superheroes do. pretty obviously, miles arc is also a reflection of the struggles people face in real life, working within unequal systems, where it's easy to shrug and say "that's just the way it is" and not ask "but why does it need be this way? can't we do something about it?"

miguel is arguing that you can't have your cake and eat it too. presumably, miles and co. are going to find a way to get around that and change things for the better (and maybe that's why miles has that line about two cakes in the advisors office!)

I love how Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse said “Anyone can be Spider-Man”. I love how it inspired everyone to imagine their own Spider-People, saving the day in their own universes, with all kinds of cool, interesting personalities and aesthetics and mutations and life stories and relationships. We all put pieces of our soul into these homemade heroes. We had fun. We found community. And then Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse said, “Wow, great job! You’ve really taken our message to heart. Well, get ready for even more of everything you liked from the first movie and a new message to complement the first. Anyone can be Spider-Man… and anyone can be pulled into a cult.”

So now we all have to contemplate whether our lovingly crafted heroes would ever be on Team Mandatory Trauma Because Martyr Complex or not and why.

Spiderverse au where Miles and The Spot actually team up as Miles is so betrayed and hurt by how everyone wanted him to accept his dad’s fate and don’t take him seriously or treat him like a mistake that he confides in the only other person that truly gets that in a fucked up way.

They plan to get rid of all the other Spiderverses so his universe is technically the focal point and universe that everything branches from so he can effectively decide what is canon in the Spiderverse and what isn’t.

Gwen-73 aka "Max Stacy"

*in Ekko’s voice* I had this dream where things went another way. (hehe… brainrot)

I thought I’d elaborate on Max a lil bit–about how this Gwen Stacy’s story compares to /ours/, where the similarities end and the differences begin, how her life’s been affected by not being the one who was bitten instead of Peter Parker, etc. 

Max is just my prediction/interpretation of a character that’s been hinted at to be introduced in BTSV, for those who don’t know back in 2023 Lord and Miller confirmed that Beyond is going to feature alternate versions of Gwen Stacy. They didn't really elaborate further irrc, but what I do remember is that it was said that *one* particular variant is meant to be of service to the main plot in some way. I took this to mean that they’re possibly planning on exploring a similar juxtaposition with the character of Gwen Stacy as they are with Miles Morales–a variant who isn’t a Spider, and how their life would go as a result of The Change. It’d make perfect sense for this to be the direction they should go in, since Spider-Gwen’s arc isn’t yet complete with how the question of her fate still lies open-ended, and whether she’s going to face her existential crisis. 

So for starters, I call her Max because my headcanon is that that’s what Spider-Gwen decides to address her as, since their middle name is Maxine. Although as I’m typing this–I just thought of this lol–it’d /also/ be tasteful to name her a different part of their first name…Like the “Lyn” part of “Gwendolyn”... yeah that sounds kinda clever... *waves dismissively* Maybe change it later, possibly, idk, whatever.

I want things to be simple, so that means adhering to the status quo of the character’s history if The Change shouldn’t affect that part of the alternate timeline. So for example, Miles G is evidently a more emotionally reserved, tragic, scarred version of Miles because of his Change. Not becoming Spider-Man when he was 14 inadvertently allowed his father to die shortly afterward, so he’s suffered a graver loss and a more corrupt world than what our Miles has. But everything that happened before the direction of their lives had changed remains the same–all the photos of Miles as a child match the ones in 1610, showing that before Jeff’s death, Miles G was the same Miles dancing across the street listening to hip hop posting up art stickers, because why wouldn’t he be? (I think this crucial point is what a lot of fanfic writers and Y/N enjoyers forget about Miles G) So despite his scars, Miles G is still Miles Morales. 

Same thing applies to Max. With her, The Change does a lot–If she didn’t get bitten and gain powers at 13, then Peter didn’t die, her father doesn’t send an angry mob after her, and she wasn’t wallowing in self-isolation. She got straight A’s and made it into Empire State University like in the comics. Is everything easy now? Is her life pristine perfect with extra marshmallows? Well, no obv. Max is like the Miles 1610 to Gwen’s Miles G–seems like the bubblier, more starry eyed positive one by comparison, sure, but they’ll still share core struggles, inner demons that make them who they are in the first place. Max and Miles 1610 just have a more nurturing environment with a healthier support system, because the timelines they live in have allowed it with The Change out of the way. 

Kinda ironic when you think about it, how for Miles Morales, having become Spider-Man was what saved him from a dark future, from losing his way, whereas that same event could seem like the harbinger of said dark future from Gwen’s perspective (which is doubly ironic because little does she know, suffering the curse of being a Spider is exactly what prevents her from the fate of an imminent death to keep the story going as written). 

So let me give you my quick summary. Max and Peter were still childhood friends who got picked on in middle school, Max still always punched back only she was definitely catching hands more often than she could throw them since no powers. In the Spider-Gwen comics, Harry Osborn was a part of their friend group too, so that gets added on (What doesn’t is the part in Gwen’s comics where he leaves for 2 years to join S.H.I.E.L.D. to get weapons to hunt Spider-Woman because Peter isn’t dead, and Gwen isn’t Spider-Woman). 

Peter in high school is usually supposed to be kind of a distant, self-isolating outcast who pushes people away so as the trio age into high school this is what he starts to grow into. Max and Harry stay together and start making new friendships. Meanwhile, Peter gets bitten by the spider at 16. College Years: Max aces AP classes and practically gets invited into ESU with a diamond ring, Harry gets accepted in out of nepotism. They reconcile with a redeemed Flash Thompson and become buddies, light work no reaction, Flash is basically like Groose from Skyward Sword now. ESU is where they cross paths with Peter for the first time in years, except Peter is Spider-Man now and still a social wallflower with a bad temper, but Max /also/ has a temper and a sneer on her face too, because she’s still Gwen Stacy. She just doesn’t have as much need for the sneer on this side of Earth 73. But Gwen doesn’t like Peter’s ‘tude. So now, they’re full-on rivals. yeaaa that's right I SAID ENEMIES TO LOVERS.

I have like, a lot more details to explain about her life and story leading up to the present, and her fashion sense, likes and interests and her design of which I've posted a few drawings of in the past, but this is all pretty much it in terms of how her teens were different from Gwen’s.

Oh and I know nobody asked, but if we’re talking dreamcasting, I say with full adamance Jennifer Lawrence.

Ok, serious major spoilers under the cut, even though I'm tagging it, but just in case cause I gotta geek out about this ending pronto.

THE LAST 5 (i think it was 5, idk anymore) MINUTES OF THIS FILM HAD ME SQUIRMING IN MY SEAT.

I mean, I knew that Gwen was going to need some serious help to rescue Miles since she got kicked out of the Spider Society, and I thought it was going to be the new Spider peeps, Hobie, Pavitr and Spiderbyte along with Peter B and Mayday being in the rescue group...

BUT THEN THEY CONTINUED TO ZOOM OUT AND WE SEE PENI (once again, since we saw her earlier with her updated mech), SPIDER HAM AND NOIR JOINING THEM AS WELL!?! I NEARLY SCREAMED WITH JOY REALZING WHAT THEY WERE DOING.

THEY LITERALLY GOT WHOLE THE BAND BACK TOGETHER AND THEY END THE FILM RIGHT THERE IM-

And then we get this quick shot of Miles on Earth-42, getting focused and steadily getting ready to use his electric-vemon on the chain and the last shot of Gwen before she jumps into the portal,

We still don't know what's going to happen, but it's going to be one hell of a fight since both Miguel and The Spot are still major threats after they do save Miles, or even if they manage to find him, maybe he'll get back on his own somehow 🤷‍♀️

On top of the whole dang multiverse potentially collapsing situation. Hopefully, the 3rd movie will be long enough to fit all that craziness in this one movie

Sorry, this film got me too excited in the last couple of hours. It's insane, I'm surprised i was able to sleep XD
