Cal Routs Stanford in Battle of The Bay
Bears Hit Program-Record 18 Triples
Win By Third Largest Margin In Series History
BERKELEY – The California women's basketball knocked down a program-record 18 3-pointers, but none were bigger than Marta Suárez's buzzer beater from near midcourt to end the third quarter, in the 83-63 win over Stanford at Haas Pavilion on Friday night. Lulu Twidale tied her career-high with six from beyond the arc and the Golden Bears (10-1, 1-0 ACC) dominated the Cardinal (7-3, 0-1 ACC). The 20-point margin of victory was the third largest in the rivals' long history. Three Bears had 20-point games in Suárez (21), Twidale (20) and Ioanna Krimili (20). The trio accounted for six of Cal's eight 3-pointers in the third quarter alone. Michelle Onyiah tied her career high with five blocks while Twidale set a career high with seven rebounds, joining Onyiah and Suárez who also pulled down seven boards. The Bears tied their season high with 20 assists on 32 made field goals. Cal held Stanford to a season-low 33.9% from the field. Suárez converted a 3-point play to give the Bears an early 5-0 lead and hit a triple on Cal's next possession to cap an 8-0 run in the first quarter. The Bears held the Cardinal to just one field goal through the first five minutes of the quarter. Cal went on a three-minute scoring drought untilKayla Williams hit a jumper to put the Bears up 12-7 with under three minutes to go. Both teams managed just one field goal over the last two minutes of the quarter and Cal took a 14-12 lead going into the second. Twidale grabbed a rebound off a Stanford miss and took it coast to coast to open the second quarter. She followed up with her first triple of the game on Cal's next possession to put the Bears up 19-14. After the 8:58 mark, Cal went on a scoring drought over the next four minutes while Stanford turned it over four times over that span, but the Bears still held the advantage at 19-16 with just under five minutes to go in the quarter. Twidale knocked down her second triple of the game after the media timeout and Williams and Krimili followed up with consecutive 3-pointers on the next two possessions to fuel a 9-0 run over a 90-second span that put the Bears up 28-16 with just under three minutes to go. After Cal went up 31-18 on Twidale's third 3-pointer, Stanford hit back-to-back triples to get to within seven points with under a minute left. Krimili was able to drive for a layup as time expired to give the Bears a 33-24 lead going into the break. Twidale drilled consecutive 3-pointers followed by one from Suárez to open the third quarter and give Cal its biggest lead up to that point at 44-26. The Bears went on to hit five straight triples to increase their lead to 50-28 at the 6:21 mark. Suárez's buzzer beater at the end of the third put Cal up 63-40 going into the final frame. The Cardinal would not get closer than 17 points in the fourth. "We came out and played Cal basketball and were sold defensively forcing them into tough shots," Cal head coach Charmin Smith said. "We talked about not having to be superhuman and just be the best versions of us and these two [Suárez and Twidale] had excellent performances knocking down shots and getting shots for each other. It was just good Cal basketball."

Bears Run-Rule Northwestern in Finale
Use two 7-Run Innings To Top Wildcats
CATHEDRAL CITY – The California softball team (10-4) earned a run-rule victory against Northwestern, 15-7, after five innings on Sunday at the Big League Dreams Complex in Cathedral City, Calif. The Golden Bears used a seven-run second and fifth inning, including a grand slam from Elon Butler, to secure a come-from-behind victory.
Cal fell behind early after the Wildcats earned six runs, including two home runs, to take a 6-1 lead heading into the bottom of the second inning. The Bears quickly responded by putting seven runs on the board, capped off by a two-RBI hit by Tianna Bell to give Cal an 8-6 lead. During the run, Acacia Anders knocked in an RBI double, while Alyssa Herrera brought in a runner due to a single up the middle of the field. After a scoreless third inning, the Wildcats tacked on an additional run due to an RBI single by Kaylie Avvisato to cut its deficit to one heading into the fifth inning. Ashanti McDade retired the side quickly with three straight outs to begin the fifth inning. The Bears loaded the bases quickly as the first three batters reached base. Lagi Quiroga forced a walk to increase the lead to 9-7. In the next at-bat, Elon Butler blasted a ball to straight away center field for a grand slam to give the Bears a commanding lead (13-7). Kaylee Pond hit a double down the right-field line to bring another runner across the home plate. Later in the frame, with the bases loaded, Mia Phillips executed a sacrifice fly to get the game-winning run home.
McDade earned her second win of the season after pitching 3.1 innings, tallying two strikeouts and surrendering only one run and hit.

Cal Sweeps Saturday's Games at Classic
Bears Defeat Seattle, Shutout LMU In Walk-Off Fashion
CATHEDRAL CITY – The California softball team earned a pair of wins on Saturday at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic after defeating Seattle (4-2) and LMU (8-0) at the Big League Dreams Complex in Cathedral City, Calif. The Golden Bears racked up the victories behind stellar pitching and a walk-off by Carly Raven to rule-run the Lions in the second game of the day. Game 1: Cal – 4 | Seattle – 2 The Bears got going early with base hits by Lagi Quiroga and Elon Butler to open the bottom of the first inning. Kaylee Pond drilled a two-RBI single down the right field line to bring both runners across home plate. In the second inning, Cal added another run on the board, extending the lead to 3-0, as the Redhawks focused on getting a runner out a second. The Redhawks cut its deficit to one after putting two runs on the board in the top half of the third inning due to a pair of errors by the Bears to give them life. Ryann Orange took the mound in the frame and tallied back-to-back strikeouts to retire the side. Cal added another run in the bottom of the fifth inning due to a sacrifice fly by Kaylee Pond en route to earning the victory. Orange held the Lions scoreless through 4.2 innings of action, earning three strikeouts and surrendering only one hit. Game 2: Cal – 8 | LMU – 0 The Bears took a two-run lead after the first inning once again after Acacia Anders blasted a two-RBI double to left field. Cal added more pressure on the Lions after tacking on two more runs in the third inning. Kaylee Pond executed a sacrifice bunt as Elon Butler reached home to extend the lead to 3-0. Later, Anders made it across home plate after Alyssa Herrera grounded out to third base. Nailyn Marshall made it a five-run game after launching a solo home run to center field, giving the Bears a commanding lead. Cal continued to pull away in the fifth inning when Tianna Bell knocked in an RBI single to give the Bears a 6-0 lead. With the bases loaded, Harmony Andrade forced a walk to tack on the seventh run of the game. Coming in as a pinch hitter and the bases still loaded, Carly Raven notched her first hit of the season to bring the game-winning run across home plate to give the Bears the run-rule walk-off win. Ryann Orange and Anna Reimers combined to pitch a shutout as Orange earned her third win of the season.
UP NEXT Cal will head to Fresno next weekend for a five-game slate at the Fresno State Tournament beginning on Friday against Southern Utah. STAY POSTED For complete coverage of Cal softball, please follow the Bears on X (CalSB), Instagram (CalSB) and Facebook (Facebook.com/CalSoftball).
