Idk why but I love the idea of Willy with someone who works for the NHL at the Toronto HQ like maybe not in the media team but part of their global marketing division, and they have a great connection because she works with the Swedish office so often and they’ve created a great friendship outside of hockey but as she’s such a high power human and that would be an HR disaster they keep it at a distance. But everyone knows they need to bang so at a holiday party they get caught under the mistletoe together (caught meaning Auston following them around holding it above their heads like an idiot wingman, but also they’re glued to each others sides so they don’t make it easy on themselves) and the Maple Leaf lads aren’t going to let them get away without finally making a move, mostly because they’re tired of Willy’s pining!
Alrighty babe, I mist admit that I wasn't entirely sure where I was going with this 😅 But, I do hope that it caught just parts of what you'd imagined ❤️ otherwise, as always just hit me up 😉

Don't mix business with pleasure I William Nylander ✿❄︎
Tumblr media
"Come on, Willy, just sleep with her already," Mitch's voice rang out in the locker room as the team prepped for practice. “I mean, you've only been into her for like six months already…”
William couldn't help but chuckle at his teammate's blunt comment, even though there was perhaps some truth in it.
"I can't just sleep with her... you know where she works, right?" William responded; a bit hesitant as he adjusted his hockey gear.
"Yeah, she's got a high-up job, but seriously, you two have been ogling each other since she first talked to you about Sweden," Mitch explained, letting it be known that the whole team was aware of the chemistry between you and their teammate.
Working at the Toronto HQ had been a huge achievement in your career, especially at your age in your mid-twenties. The promotion was a result of hard work and dedication, a significant step forward that you had relentlessly pursued.
And it was only a few weeks into your new position when you’d first encountered the Swedish forward, William Nylander. You and your team had invited all the Swedish players in for a meeting, as you were preparing for the up for the upcoming global series event set to happen in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden.
Being part of the global marketing team, you were tasked with managing the event schedule for this huge event, knowing that the Swedes, especially William, would be very much under the spotlight. He wasn't just a star player for the Leafs but also a familiar face in what he considered his home country -Sweden. And right from that moment, an immediate connection sparked between the two of you.
Sure, your professional responsibilities demanded commitment, but amid the discussions in the meeting rooms and event arrangements, there was an unspoken bond in the air - a mutual understanding that went beyond regular work interactions.
William's gaze was fixed on you from the start, as he quickly noticed your voice, gentle and warm, filling the room, a comforting tune to his ears, and your captivating smile and evident passion for your work were magnetic.
You were incredibly smart, and the way you weren’t afraid of speaking your mind, and man-handle those around you who gave you nothing but hell, merely because you were younger than them, had him all intrigued.
And he knew he had to at least try and be around you for more than just a few meetings.
So, days slowly turned into shared moments – casual coffees during breaks, filled with laughter, genuine talks about life beyond the sports arena, and a mutual admiration for each other's dedication to your careers. Yet, underneath this professional facade, there lingered an undeniable tension; an unexpressed longing held back by the responsibilities of professionalism.
You tried to keep things innocent, staying at arm's length and keeping a cool, business-like attitude. But his charm, laughter, and jokes easily cut through the formal work setup, reaching a deeper part of you.
Especially during the Global tour, when you, alongside all the coordinators and Swedes across the NHL-teams, Red Wings, Wilds, and Senators, spent endless hours together sorting schedules, doing interviews, signing autographs, and handling whatever else cropped up.
It became increasingly harder to stay far away from the lad from Stockholm. Yet, both of you knew you had to deal with this undeniable chemistry, sidestepping unspoken feelings that came up whenever you were together.
And perhaps you were a little bit better at it than William.
"Planning to root for us?" he teased during a discussion about the team’s marketing plans.
"Willy, you know I can’t take sides like that; I'm part of the NHL, remember," you replied with a sweet smile.
"Fair enough, but I wouldn't mind hearing you cheering my name one day... supporting the Leafs," he almost whispered, making sure not to make it too obvious to everyone around that your relationship was slowly becoming more than just colleagues. Perhaps even closer than just friends.
But you brushed it off, keeping your attention on your tasks at hand.
Meanwhile, the Maple Leaf lads, always keeping an eye out, couldn't resist teasing and joking around, fully aware of the growing attraction between you and William.
"Looks like someone's aiming high up there," Auston teased William as soon as he’d returned to the group. "So, that's why you're always hanging around, 'assisting' whenever the big boys are here."
"She's not involved in any of that," William defended with a chuckle.
And it did hold some truth to it.
However, he couldn't deny the way you looked in your stylish vintage suit-pants, your hair nearly flawlessly styled, and your makeup enhancing your natural beauty. It occupied too much space in his hockey-focused mind.
Thoughts of your figure lingered in his thoughts, and every time there was a game either at the Scotiabank Arena or elsewhere, he'd search for you in the crowd.
_
As the holiday season drew near, the team's cheerful vibe set the stage for playful banter and, not to forget, the big company Christmas party in Toronto, where the entire headquarters received invites, including the Toronto Maple Leafs players and management.
And amid the festive ambience, the players were casually dressed in their best business casual attire, chatting and mingling, across management levels and occupations.
However, it was Auston's smug look that caught William's attention, prompting him to swiftly turn his head, when you entered the venue.
Your semi-long red dress hugged your figure snugly, and your legs looked elongated by your tall heels, as a blazer draped over your shoulders, and you held a clutch close to your side.
"Hey, Willy, I think you dropped something," Morgan teased as the blonde Swede couldn't take his eyes off you from a distance.
"What?" William questioned.
"Your jaw," the defenseman jested, prompting chuckles from the rest of the guys.
William did his best to shrug off his teammates' playful remarks with laughter, but his gaze remained fixed on you.
And a few moments later, as you picked up a delightful glass of champagne, your eyes met his as well.
It was a tender moment as your eyes locked from across the room, and the atmosphere seemed to grow a bit more intense. You almost sensed his presence, feeling as if his breath was upon you, as the two of you stood almost motionless, the background noise gently fading away.
But then you shook your head, needing to break the intense moment and return to reality as Shannon Hosford's lively storytelling filled the room.
"I swear you have to make a move tonight," Auston chuckled, noticing the not-so-subtle shared moment.
"I wish…" William murmured softly, a faint smirk touching his lips. "Maybe there'll be a Christmas miracle," he chuckled lightly before turning his focus back to his friends.
And that idea sparked something in Auston's mind.
A Christmas miracle—or perhaps just a gentle nudge in the right direction.
As the night progressed, Cynthia Devine delivered a heartfelt speech, followed by Brendan Shanahan, and then a delightful three-course meal. You found yourself engrossed in amusing conversations with the Toronto Maple Leafs' staff. Given your recent close work with them, striking up casual chats felt almost second nature.
Then during the pivotal speech delivered by the NHL Toronto HQ president, William decided to make a move, as he sensed your efforts to keep a distance from him throughout the evening, yet he also felt that it wasn't truly what you desired.
So, as everyone stood, their attention fixed on the stage in the beautiful venue, William moved closer to you, positioning himself right by your side, his shoulder gently brushing against yours. You glanced slightly in his direction, catching a glimpse of his handsome features, before turning back to face the stage, a faint smile playing on your lips.
Just his close presence alone made you feel a sense of warmth.
Then something more tangible occurred.
William delicately and slowly nudged his right hand against your left, which hung by your side, and he lightly traced his fingers against yours, attempting to interlace two of his fingers with your palm, gently wrapping them around your little and ring finger.
Initially, your heart skipped a beat. You knew his touch was almost innocent, yet if anyone from the headquarters spotted you intertwining fingers with an NHL hockey player, HR would undoubtedly raise concerns. It would be deemed a violation of regulations and considered highly unprofessional.
But you found it hard to resist.
Gradually, you relaxed your tensed posture, allowing your arm to hang freely, permitting William's fingers to intertwine further with yours.
However, your actions didn’t go unnoticed.
As Auston saw the subtle finger play between you and William, he was quick to make his move. However, just as he was about to execute his plan, the speech concluded, prompting both you and William to swiftly pull your hands apart and join in the applause with the rest of the crowd.
The room filled with loud sounds as the clapping continued for what seemed like minutes, but it was minutes you relished simply standing next to the tall Swede. Then, as the applause gradually faded and the crowd dispersed from the floor, you took the chance to steal another glance at William. But you weren't alone.
Auston was nearby, and with a smooth move, he produced a small green plant from behind his back. Looking innocent, he whistled and casually raised his hand, looking in a different direction as he held the mistletoe just above your heads.
Both you and William couldn't help but chuckle at Auston's not-so-subtle attempt at matchmaking. Yet, there was an understanding that perhaps engaging in intimate contact with William under the guise of mistletoe tradition might make it more acceptable. Your eyes met his once more.
William immediately caught on and subtly moved a bit closer to you, if that was even possible.
It felt like an unspoken agreement. Both of you knew what you desired most in that very moment. However, the moment was interrupted naturally by a colleague calling you over, and once again, you had to separate.
Both Auston and William let out deep sighs, feeling the missed opportunity keenly. So close, yet so far.
Fortunately, no more than an hour passed before another opportunity arose. And this time, Auston was determined to have your lips connected with William's.
The dance floor was packed with guests, music blaring through the speakers, as you had just grabbed another drink from the bar when William approached you gently.
"Not sure if it's appropriate," he softly chuckled. "But you look absolutely amazing tonight."
His attempt to remain polite and professional, while also being charming and flirtatious, amused you. And you couldn’t deny that there was a part of you that simply wanted to give in to the temptation.
Glancing around and spotting none of your managers or colleagues, you leaned in with a confident, teasing expression.
"Only tonight?" you teased back, earning a light chuckle from William.
"I think we both know I think you always look amazing," he corrected himself with a laugh.
And once again, you both felt the tender moment burgeoning between you, as Auston slowly made his way closer.
And again, he took out the little green plant, holding it just above your heads casually, prompting more light chuckles. But this time, you and William silently agreed that it was happening.
As you took a deep breath, fully aware of the countless regulations about to be crossed, you leaned in towards him, meeting his touch halfway as he slowly inclined to let his lips meet yours.
His hands found the curves of your hips as you placed yours on his muscular upper arms, softly leaning into the kiss.
The moment was absolutely perfect.
William's lips felt just right against yours, his closeness feeling wonderful, and the shared breaths creating a heartfelt connection. Your heart quickened, and excitement surged through you with the intensity of the kiss.
But as much as both of you desired for it to last longer, you knew you had to pull away to avoid drawing too much attention.
So, reluctantly, you let out a breath, took a small step back, and willed your heart to calm down, mentally processing the rush the kiss had brought.
Even after parting, amid exclamations and chuckles from the players, the sensation of William's lips lingering on yours remained.
But you knew it couldn't continue, and so you made a painful decision and began to walk away. Heading straight towards the ladies’ room, conflicting emotions clashed with rational thoughts in your head.
And just as you were about to reach for the door handle, William's hand grabbed yours and turned you around, pulling you close to him.
"Willy," you exhaled, slightly bewildered by his sudden action. "Please, we can't…"
"I know, but..." His voice softened as he pondered how to articulate his thoughts. "I know we can't be together, not now and maybe not ever... but I need you to know, no matter what happens, my heart belongs to you."
His words were tender and filled with emotion, conveying a depth of sincerity that struck a chord within you.
And attempting to respond while standing close together in the hallway, grateful that no one interrupted your private moment, you began, "Willy..."
"You don't have to explain - I understand it's your career, and I don't want to jeopardize it - but I just needed you to know how I feel; otherwise, I'd regret it for the rest of my life."
Slowly untangling himself from your proximity, he then started to walk away. However, you couldn't let him leave like this.
After his heartfelt confession, even though circumstances seemed against you, you couldn't let him go without a response. Determinedly, you strode towards him.
"Willy," you called out loudly, causing him to turn around and face you again, just as you leaned in to connect your lips briefly once more.
"Just so you know, I'm not saying never."
A small smile graced the hockey player's face as he let out a relieved sigh, your words simply reassuring him that what was happening between you wasn't entirely off the table for the future.

Book Review 56 – Three Parts Dead by Max Gladstone
Tumblr media
I consider myself a pretty big fan of Gladstone’s, but until now I’d only ever touched his standalone works – I was previously a bit put off by the length of the Craft Sequence and so never actually tried it. So, thank you to the people who recommended I give it a try anyway! Despite being the first in a series, Three Parts Dead is a perfectly fine self-contained story and not relying on you reading the sequels to finish anything important. While it’s not the best thing of Gladstone’s I’ve read (Last Exit my beloved), it’s not the worst, either.
The book takes place in an industrial fantasy setting about a generation out from the apocalyptic, centuries-long war between the old gods and the ‘deathless kings’ – human sorcerers who had learned to master magic such that they could face them and tear the world apart in the crossfire. Tara, the hero, graduated from basically-Hogwarts entirely because there’s a binding preventing the school from doing bodily harm to its students – the next second they literally threw her out a window at 10,000 feet. The story follows her as she’s hired as a junior associate helping a world-famous lawyer/archmage as she’s hired by the church of Kas Everburning to investigate the sudden and mysterious death of their god. What follows are several hundred pages of convoluted scheming, legal proceedings, forensic accounting, and bloody magical duels and assassinations.
There are a few twists I genuinely didn’t see coming, the plot overall hangs together very well, and the pacing was just about perfect for the kind-of pulpy mystery/adventure story it was. Overall just a great time reading it.
That said, the setting’s probably the main thing to really sell people on this book. It’s just fun, and actually pretty damn original. The basic conceits are that a) magic is real, and b) so is capitalism. Kas Everburning is the beloved god and protector of the city, and also a highly leveraged legal entity loaning power across the globe whose death would catastrophically destabilize the global financial/metaphysical/political system. Mages can fly and raise zombies and enscroll people, but it’s all done in the idiom and with the vocabulary of contract law.
Beyond the basic conceit, Gladstone just clearly delights in layering weirdness on weirdness. Vitally, he does actually have a bit of restraint with the exposition – the book’s full of off-hand comments about different places and institutions that make you (me, anyway) incredibly curious about what the hell their deal is, but the actual explanations are restricted to what’s actually relevant to the plot and what the characters actually need to know. I still really want to know what’s up with King Clock or the Iskari or a half dozen other things, though. So, top-tier worldbuilding.
The themes are not exactly subtle, but I very appreciate that Gladstone lets them mostly remain as worldbuilding subtext and manages to make them feel like they emerge very naturally. I appreciate the slight restraint it takes to let the reader draw their own conclusions about the fact that the city’s police force is so empowered by strength and lack of need for doubt when on the clock that it’s literally addictive, or that one of the main antagonists is a brilliant older academic whose masterwork is a system where his star pupils (including a disproportionate number of attractive young women) are magically networked together to achieve incredible results he can take credit for while their lives and personalities are drained away to nothing. Being able to literalize the subtext a bit is half the fun of secondary wrld fantasy, after all.
Anyway, yes, very fun read. Four stars.

Xavier Thorpe had always been interested in art. It had been his passion since he was young.
He dreamt of galaxies and spaceships, of a man with flowers and tall aliens who graciously accepted them.
His art was world renowned in the sci-fi world. He was commissioned to do cover art for novels and made a tidy living from concept art for blockbuster films.
He had his own art studio in SoHo that was a popular destination when the Star Trek convention and other like events were in town.
Lately, he had dreamt of a woman with dark hair and agate eyes. He painted her over and over again, unlike anything he had ever done before. Those paintings were in his private collection, and none had ever seen them.
Unbeknownst to him, his studio got repeat visitors from a pair that always wore crisp black suits. The studio manager always politely asked them if they were interested in purchasing a piece, but they always said no.
It didn’t occur to the manager that it was odd that he never remembered them, even when they visited nearly every day for the past several weeks. They were always so discreet and nothing about them had ever stuck in his mind.
“Well, that’s definitely a Betazoid,” Agent A commented as he studied the painting.
“It’s not just a Betazoid, it’s Reittan Grax,” Agent W specified quietly, “And it’s a far more flattering portrait than he deserves.”
Agent A simply laughed, he knew his partner was one to hold grudges and the biennial Betazoid Trade Agreement Conference being held on Earth was a headache for the Organization globally.
As they studied all the art on display, they also took note of Bolians, Mizarians, and Zakdorns.
They had all the public and non-public records of Xavier Thorpe. From all their research, he was as human as they came.
The question was, how was he painting aliens that were not known to humans? At first their boss, Agent L had suspected an undocumented alien merely capitalizing on actual alien likenesses in order to make Earth money and a life for themselves. But Xavier Thorpe had all the proper records and history, even their most prolific forger would have a hard time mimicking a human life so well.
They were sent to investigate and had lucked out that day as Xavier needed to consult with his manager about his next showing.
Xavier was left speechless when he literally met the woman of his dreams.
Agent W and Agent A were suspicious when it looked like Xavier recognized Agent W, which should have been impossible.
They did their usual protocol when they introduced themselves by implying they were government agents, their badges held no actual seal of any U.S. government agency, but most of the human population was never that observant.
Xavier had been nervous, but he answered their questions honestly. His answers all matched up to his paperwork and they each discreetly performed tests with their advanced technology.
Xavier Thorpe was human and of Earth, there was no denying that.
“Thank you for answering our questions,” Agent W started to wrap it up, they would need to head back to HQ to debrief Agent L and get guidance of what to do next. She took out a silver cylindrical tube, ignoring Xavier’s confused look.
She set the time and date for him to forget, and with a quick flash, she started to do her normal spiel,
“You never saw…” her words died on her lips when Xavier simply looked confused rather than dazed.
“What did you just flash me with?” the flash wasn’t painful, nor did he have any idea why she did it, but he could have been epileptic for all she knew. It was just rude and dangerous.
Agent A frowned at the neuralyzer, wondering if it was broken. It had never happened before to his knowledge, but he wasn’t sure what else to think.
She flashed him again, and again Xavier was not affected by the device. In fact, he got annoyed and smacked it out of her hand.
She frowned at him and he frowned right back at her,
“You’re gonna give me a seizure or something,” he griped.
Xavier also wasn’t entrenched in the sci-fi fandom for nothing, so he put together the two nameless agents in sunglasses while indoors and the weird doohickey they flashed in his face.
“Is it safe to say that you guys are part of some shadow government?”
Both agents sighed deeply, and Agent A rolled his eyes.
The Men in Black were a known secret amongst the sci-fi nerds, and they wondered if others were immune to the neuralyzer and that’s how they ended up on Reddit all the time.
Xavier brought them back to his apartment and showed them the paintings of Agent W.
They were beautiful and well done, and Agent W almost shed a tear for they were snapshots of her past life, before she became an Agent.
When she had a family and a dream to become a writer.
They took him to MiB headquarters and Xavier was amazed that so much was hidden under their very noses. He had passed the HQ building several times and never would have thought it held a secret government agency.
They ran some tests and Agent L explained,
“Xavier, you are the rare human that has psychic ability. It’s why you dream of aliens that have visited our planet and why the neuralyzer does not work on you. Normally we would make you disappear, put you in a sort of exile to preserve the secret of alien life and protect Earth. However, with your abilities, I believe you would be ideal for our special unit.”
“Special unit?” Xavier took it all in stride, he thinks he always believed there might be some truth to his dreams.
“Yes, it’s not just extra-terrestrials we deal with. It’s a secret even to most of our most senior agents. Most of the time, it’s more than enough to know aliens exist. If they also knew the supernatural existed as well…well some have had to retire early,” was all she would say.
Xavier considered his options. He certainly didn’t want to go into exile, and he wasn’t particularly close with anyone. He hadn’t even spoken to his father in years, and he didn’t have any close friends.
He could only think of Agent W, and the dreams of them together. He felt he was where he was meant to be.
So, he accepted Agent L’s offer. He traded in his paintbrushes for his own neuralyzer, and his paint splattered camo pants for a bespoke black suit.
You will not stand out in any way. Your entire image is crafted to leave no lasting memory with anyone you encounter. You’re a rumor, recognizable only as deja vu, and dismissed just as quickly. You don’t exist. You were never even born. Anonymity is your name. Silence, your native tongue. You are no longer part of the system. You are above the system. Over it. Beyond it. We’re “them.” We’re “they.” In the absence of light, darkness prevails. We stand against the vampires, the demons, and the forces of darkness; to stop the spread of their evil and the swell of their numbers.
The words of Agent L echo in his mind as he puts on the suit.
There are things that go bump in the night…we are what bump back.
He developed his psychic abilities under the guidance of Agent L. He was glad to see that Agent W and Agent A were given promotions and assigned to his unit.
“Welcome,” Agent L began, “Our unit is a secret within a secret. We are the Outcasts. This is our newest agent, Agent X.”
Agent W nodded respectfully, but from the heated way she eyed him up and down, rather liking him in a black suit, Xavier, now Agent X, knew his dreams would be coming true sooner rather than later.

Fair & Bleh
As a kid, I remember seeing Priyanka Chopra as the face of fair and lovely. I remember older family members claiming the importance of staying out of the sun, associating beauty with lighter skin. I remember being infuriated when Priyanka Chopra commented supporting Black Lives Matter because it felt superficial and hypocritical. Though she was young when she was the face of Fair & Lovely, she supported one thing in South Asia while supporting another in the US.
Fair and Lovely capitalized on a major insecurity many South Asians had due to culture valuing a specific attribute they had little control over. This feels wildly exploitive and using major Bollywood stars as their campaign faces further exploited an already vulnerable consumer base. Contrasting this company with one like Dove, which took its customers' insecurities and traditional beauty standards, is interesting. I still remember seeing Dove's Real Beauty campaign, challenging traditional beauty standards and asking its customers to accept themselves. Though there was a "need" and demand for Fair & Lovely's product, the brand messaging capitalized on a problematic cultural norm - one that will hopefully change even more over time and will put Fair & Lovely in a difficult branding position - opening it up to more risk.
I'm not sure this relates directly to our branding project on tourism for a specific region in Italy. However, I could see a world where something political in Italy raises backlash globally, and the region would need to protect its "brand" as a part of a larger country. In this case, the region would need to defend itself by casting a positive, accepting message.

Actor Rupert Grint, who played Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter movies, has been embroiled in a storm of controversy. The 36-year-old actor, who reportedly earned £24 million during his time in the franchise, was ordered to pay a significant £1.8 million in taxes following a prolonged legal dispute with HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC). Grint's woes are related to the 2011–2012 tax year wherein a company set up to manage his financial affairs paid him £4.5 million described as "consideration for rights, records, and goodwill." According to the actor, it was a "capital asset," which he claimed would keep it out of the realm of income tax and inside the capital gains tax laws. HMRC challenged the view, and following a First-Tier Tribunal in 2022, the court ruled that the amount was income for tax purposes. Tribunal Judge Harriet Morgan dismissed Grint's appeal, sealing the decision that he owed £1,801,060 in taxes. This is the second tax-related loss for Grint, after he lost a separate £1 million tax refund case in 2019. The financial tussles have attracted much comment, and critics have seized on what they see as an odd twist of fate, since Grint has previously publicly criticized JK Rowling, the author who gave the Harry Potter world to life. GabboT, CC BY-SA 2.0 https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.0, via Wikimedia Commons Grint publicly distanced himself from Rowling in the wake of her comments on gender and transgender issues. When referring to her as an "aunt I don't agree with," Grint was very vocal in his support for the transgender community, stating, "I firmly stand with the trans community." His comments followed the position taken by other Harry Potter stars Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson, who voiced their opposition to Rowling's views. But controversy around Grint has revived conversations on the fan page and among critics. Some fans have accused him of "hypocrisy" and "virtue signaling." One commented, "A multimillionaire who trashed the person that made him outrageously wealthy, because he didn't understand gender, has proven to be not as virtuous as his sanctimonious image." Another said, "He did not stand up for JKR, the opposite in fact. He is a smug toad. There was also a great deal of mockery. One user said, "Couldn't have happened to a more deserving person. I hope @jk_rowling is laughing and laughing." Another quipped, "Virtue signaling woke behavior comes full circle. I thought these people were all about 'paying their fair share.' Karma is glorious." Grint's position on Rowling and subsequent court troubles have become a rallying point for more general debates about celebrity responsibility and the power of public speech. Rowling, despite her opinions on gender having been roundly condemned, has maintained a devoted fan base. Meanwhile, the Harry Potter franchise remains a global phenomenon, and its brand is still identified with Rowling's artistic vision. This scandal throws light on the struggles public personalities go through balancing their personal views, professional commitments, and public opinion. The vocal defense Grint has given for transgender issues has won him admiration in some quarters, but the alienation from Rowling and these tax rulings have sparked an obvious shift in his position in the eyes of several fans and critics alike. The financial and reputational blowback from Grint's tax disputes is a reminder of how complex celebrities' private financial lives can often be when they overlap with their public personas. The impact of this incident will likely be felt in his career or his popularity among Harry Potter fans for some time to come. But it sure has reopened the debate about where wealth, morality, and public persona intersect in the entertainment business. As the fans continue to rip these stories apart, the discussion reveals that it is changing with regards to fandoms and with public figures as scrutiny increases. For Rupert Grint, whose entire career is tied to Harry Potter, these stories will likely be in people's heads for some time. Read the full article

SAP HR Roadmap

The Evolving SAP HR Landscape: Your Roadmap to Success
SAP Human Resources (SAP HR), also known as SAP Human Capital Management (HCM), is a core suite within the broader SAP enterprise resource planning (ERP) system. It handles the critical employee data and processes that keep businesses running smoothly. As technology and workplace dynamics shift, so does the SAP HR roadmap. Let’s dive into what’s on the horizon.
Key Pillars of the SAP HR Roadmap
Cloud Dominance: SuccessFactors Continues to Rise
SAP SuccessFactors is the undisputed star of the cloud-based HR landscape. Its comprehensive talent management modules, intuitive interface, and continuous updates solidify its position. Companies should strongly consider migrating to SuccessFactors or developing a hybrid strategy for maximum efficiency.
On-Premise SAP HCM: Stability and Focus
If you’re committed to on-premise SAP HCM, don’t worry – it isn’t going away. SAP has extended mainstream maintenance for its on-premise HR solutions until 2030, with the option for extended maintenance until 2040. Expect a focus on these areas:
User Experience (UX): Fiori will continue transforming the user interface, making it more intuitive and mobile-friendly.
Localization: Enhanced support for global payroll and country-specific HR legislation.
The Rise of Innovations
SAP isn’t just maintaining, they’re innovating. Anticipate advancements in these areas:
People Analytics: Embrace data-driven HR decisions with sophisticated analytics tools.
Intelligent Technologies: Explore AI-powered automation and simplification of routine HR tasks.
Employee Experience (EX): Improve talent attraction, engagement, and retention through seamless, personalized HR experiences.
Your SAP HR Roadmap: What to Consider
Business Goals: It is crucial to align your SAP HR strategy with your company’s objectives. Are you aiming for faster onboarding, more streamlined talent development, or improved data compliance?
Cloud vs. On-Premise: Carefully weigh the pros and cons of each model based on your specific needs, budget, and IT infrastructure.
Integration: If you have a hybrid system, ensure seamless communication between your HR platforms, whether on-premise or in the cloud.
Change Management: Embrace a culture of continuous learning. Prepare your employees for technological changes through adequate training and open communication.
Vendor and Partner Support: Seek a reliable SAP consulting partner to help with strategic planning, system implementation, and ongoing maintenance.
The Future is Now
The SAP HR roadmap is driven by the need for agility, user-centricity, and powerful data insights. By staying informed, proactively planning, and focusing on the overall employee experience, you position your organization for success in the rapidly changing world of human resources.

This is the first book I've given 5 stars since reading Just Mercy almost 2 years ago.
It's so, so good.
No review I could offer will ever do it justice.
Cassidy's story is well written and highly readable.
It's so telling about how forces from her early childhood to present day contributed to her finding herself in the places she did and influenced the way she reacted to her reality.
She is an incredible young woman.
Her story is fascinating and inspiring.
Please read her book.
Below the cut are some quotes that I've chose to highlight either because it was new information to me, exceptionally outrageous, or heartfelt confirmation of my personal opinion of Liz Cheney (👑❤️🙌🏻), but they in no way tell the entire story.
Please read this book.
“…Dad had found a show he loved: The Apprentice. Dad boasted about Donald Trump’s accomplishments – he was a warrior, just like us, and he had built a global multibillion-dollar business from the ground up. Dad fixated so much on Donald Trump. I wished he would pay attention to us like he did to The Apprentice.”
“…he [Dad] said that Donald Trump was teaching him how to become a better businessman so that he did not have to work as much. The other option, Dad said, was that he could stop working altogether. Dad didn’t think his family would like how suffering felt, and since he had worked so hard, we had no idea what it meant to suffer.” (p. 21)
The effects of questionable influence started early. Cassidy's childhood is relatable in so many ways and also illuminates experiences that we know are common but may not have taken part in ourselves.
She is an excellent student, an achiever, a people pleaser. Because you know where she ends up, you begin to put together how it happened from the very beginning and you empathize deeply.
“…Ben advised me not to address Liz informally. ‘She takes her job very seriously,’ he explained. ‘Not that Kevin and Steve don’t. But Liz is all business until you really get to know her…if she lets you.’” (p. 51)
I love this.
I love that she found this worth mentioning.
God save the 👑 (and the rest of us from unserious politicians.)
“William and I had rented an apartment together earlier that summer, but we had grown apart. I was focused on growing my career, knowing we were headed into the busiest of year on the Hill. William didn’t support Trump, questioning his policies as well as how much time I devoted to work. When we broke up at the end of the summer, he cut ties quickly. We went from four years by each other’s side to there being a gaping hole where my best friend used to be.” (p. 54)
I found it incredibly sad that she lost this important long term relationship over the Trump administration...and that it was only the beginning of the many things she would lose in the years to come.
“I worried that the 2019 inquiry would establish precedent for presidents to face any politically motivated impeachment.” (p. 57)
Too ironic to leave unmentioned...
(To be clear, my comment is in reference to the attempt to impeach BIDEN.)
“I doubt any politician could have led the country through the deadliest pandemic in a hundred years without making errors of judgement and execution. But of all the people in the world, President Trump was uniquely unsuited to the challenge. He lacked empathy and was stubborn and impatient.” (p. 72)
I mean, we knew this, but it's nice to see it in print, especially coming from inside the administration.
“I had made a quick study of President Clinton’s reelection, and admired how he had brilliantly capitalized on scoring smaller, bipartisan legislative victories and used his travel and splashy White House events to portray them as massive accomplishments. I recommended that we follow a similar plan. … ‘We just want bigger legislative wins for the election, not bipartisan wins,’ Mark said. ‘We need to use our conservative base.’ (p. 92)
This is so incredibly demonstrative of who Cassidy is in comparison to where she found herself.
Respect for the genuinely well intentioned research and work she put into this...even in the face of the unsurprisingly disappointing response.
“’Cass, if I can get through this job and manage to keep him out of jail’ – referring to our boss, the president – ‘I’ll [Mark] have done a good job.’” (p. 116)
About that... 😬😬
“Trump hated fundraising – he was expected to flatter people he thought should be flattering him.” (p. 139)
“The president does not like animals…” (p.150)
Unsurprising, both.
Feels good to see the confirmation.
“The president and his legal advisors – led by Rudy and Sidney Powell, a former federal prosecutor – would file ninety ‘stop the steal’ lawsuits. …this group held a press conference about various legal challenges. They stood in front of a Philadelphia landscaping company building in a strip mall next to an adult entertainment shop and a crematorium.” (p. 172)
An unforgettable memory that we all share.
Four Seasons Total Landscaping has its own Wikipedia entry because of this event.
“Mark asked for General Services Administration (GSA) staff to light a fire in his office fireplace first thing every morning. He kept a pile of firewood and throughout the day added logs to keep the fire burning. When I went into his office to deliver lunch or a package to him, I would sometimes find him leaning over the fire, feeding papers into it, watching to make sure they burned, and placing logs on top of the ashes.” (p. 182)
Not to take away from the other ways that this is problematic to say the least, but the execution here is ridiculous.
Trump stored moving trucks worth of classified documents in an unused bathroom.
Kudus for knowing the shit needed destroyed, I guess (not that said action was legal, just self-protecting), but maybe don't do it AT the office?
I feel like even those of us that didn't get Cassidy's quick refresher on the rules regarding the requirements of preserving presidential records might have raised an eyebrow at this? 🤦🏻‍♀️
“To me, ‘saving democracy’ should not require a presidential pardon.” (p. 190)
Facts.
“’I’ll be the best chief of staff if I can keep him in office,’ he [Mark] explained to me. ‘If that’s what he wants, that’s what I want.” (p. 191)
Someone drank all the kool-aid.
(Tumblr spell-check suggests 'kook-aid' which... 🤷🏻‍♀️)
“Less than a week after January 6, the House of Representatives moved swiftly to introduce, without holding a public hearing, a single article of impeachment. … After the article was passed by the House, Mark asked me to make a chart with headshots of the ten Republican members who had voted in favor of impeachment. Mark gave the hit list to the president, who kept it on the Resolute Desk.” (p. 227)
While far from the worst of the things they did, just reading about this made me so uncomfortable.
“He [Dad] threw the subpoena in the trash, ranting that I didn’t need to do anything it asked me to do. He had read online that it wasn’t mandatory to comply with congressional subpoenas.” (p. 267)
“If you move back here you won’t have to comply with the subpoena. They’ll never find you here. Daddy will keep you safe.” (p. 269)
When Cassidy approached her father, after trying everything else imaginable, to ask to borrow money to obtain a non-Trump World (the fact that they actually call themselves that non-ironically...) attorney to help her through the mess she'd found herself in, she found that his cheese had slid even further off the cracker.
My heart hurts for her, honestly. Her situation (having a Trumper parent) isn't entirely unique, but it's crushing to see just how much that psychology can completely ruin a person and in turn hurt those that care about them.
It was heartening, later on, to see that she did have other people in her life that were supportive including an aunt and uncle that offered to mortgage their home and ultimately Liz herself who managed to come up with some options for pro-bono legal representation.
“He [Trump Funded Atty] assured me that the committee wouldn’t know what I could and couldn’t recall.” (p. 273)
“We just want to protect the president. We all know you’re loyal. Let’s just get you in and out of this. It’s going to be easy, I promise.” (p. 276)
...Yikes...
“Liz assures me that they will have plenty of bottles stockpiled at the witness table for me on Tuesday.” (p. 312)
I have had an inside joke with myself since watching the J6 hearings about Liz being a 'thirsty bitch' (in the most respectable of ways, of course), due to her always seeming to have a minimum of 3 beverage options available at the dais.
We stan a hydrated 👑.
This was yesterday.
Tumblr media
(Credit to @LarrySabato [Liz's UVA handler] on Twitter)
How many water bottles do you see? 🤣
Bless. 🙌🏻
“There’s a quality in Liz’s demeanor, her seriousness and purposefulness, her self-possession that has a bolstering effect on me.” (p. 313)
Cassidy: I really hope I don’t let you down tomorrow.
Liz: Cassidy, you could never let me down. I’m really proud of you.
“Her pride is enough encouragement for me to see this through.” (p. 316)
I, personally, find the inspiration Cassidy gets from Liz to be so (inexplicably but none the less real) relatable.
I feel gratitude to Liz for the way she supported Cassidy through everything they went through.
Girl was doing her best but I don't think she would have gotten there without Liz...and while I think it might be fair to question Liz's motives, I honestly don't think you'd find anything scandalous.
Liz has a very pervasive habit of telling you exactly who she is.
Here she was a Constitution supporting, oath upholding member of Congress trying to do the right thing; regardless of personal consequence.
She saw that in Cassidy as well, which, I think, at least to a certain extent, triggered her mama-bear response.
Of the countless respectable traits regularly demonstrated by my sharp minded, quick witted, problematic fav...mama-bear just might be the best of the best.
We don't always need a babies must be born but not necessarily fed, drill Yellowstone, waterboarding isn't torture, my family threatened to disown me unless I voted for gay marriage opinion on the existential threats of China. ...but we do always want mom to be proud of us. 🤷🏻‍♀️
“Liz checks on me every day. She sends encouraging articles, shares stories about the public support we’ve received since the hearing, and relays messages from prominent figures in the Republican party, our Republican Party. We talk and laugh, I cry, we laugh some more. Liz is becoming my rock.” (p. 334)
Tumblr media
I hope they stay in touch.
I really think they're good for each other and I want the best for both of them.
“I didn’t think then, nor do I think now, that I had done anything that day that deserved praise or merited excess pride. I had done a duty I owed the country, a duty I chose.” (p. 325)
I love this about her.
This is where I see the Liz in Cassidy...and that's not something I've ever said about anyone else.
---
My only real complaint about Cassidy's book is that it didn't tell us much about what she's doing now.
Maybe she hasn't figured it out yet.
She's been through a lot and she's still so young.
One can't help but wonder where one goes from here.
I hope wherever life takes her she finds support and fulfillment.
She's certainly earned the right to live outside of the public eye if that's what she chooses.
Please read her book.

Wrexham's Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney's stake in Alpine cost them NOTHING
Wrexham's Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney's stake in Alpine cost them NOTHING... with the actors' FAME attractive to growing the F1 team as part of £171m deal Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are pursuing another sporting venture The Wrexham owning duo have acquired a stake in the Alpine Formula One team But they haven't had to part ways with any of their own money, just their fame  By Nick Harris And Alex Miller For The Mail On Sunday Published: 17:31 EDT, 1 July 2023 | Updated: 17:31 EDT, 1 July 2023 Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have acquired a stake in the Alpine Formula One team as part of a £171m deal, without putting in any of their own money! Paddock sources have told The Mail on Sunday that the A-list duo agreed to become part of a consortium taking a 24 per cent stake in the team, which is valued at around £700m following the investment, in return for their … fame. American investment firms Otro Capital and RedBird Capital Partners have put cash into the consortium, while Reynolds and McElhenney are expected to generate revenues through their storytelling prowess, and perhaps a documentary series. The F1 team are hoping their profile will rise as rapidly as that of Reynolds’ football club Wrexham. Reynolds and McElhenney plus actor Michel B Jordan co-own an investment company, Maximum Effort Investments, which is it understood will own around one tenth of the 24 per cent stake, or between two and three per cent of Alpine. The cash injection has already started to pay off after Alpine paid off a £20m loan on their Oxfordshire-based headquarters this week. Alpine declined to comment on the structure of the consortium’s investment. Ryan Reynolds (R) and Rob McElhenney (L) have acquired a stake in Formula One team Alpine Alpine F1 are hoping to raise the profile of their team similar to Wrexham's rise to stardom Reynolds and McElhenney have proved their business acumen - as well as gained global attention - with their ‘Welcome To Wrexham’ documentary, telling the story of their takeover of the Welsh club.  The triumphant rise back to the Football League in the 2022-23 season will feature in the next season; the show is a smash hit in the USA, where Wrexham will incidentally tour this summer. The commercial appeal of the club - thanks to the actors’ involvement - has been underlined by the recent announcement that Wrexham’s new short sponsor will be the world’s biggest airline, United Airlines. The US airline's name and logo will be on the front of the club's home, away and third shirts, as well as on the women’s kits.
