Video Calls with a Twist: Why Someone Like Me’s Face-to-Face Connections Feel More Personal
Connecting with new friends online has moved beyond just texting, and video calls have opened up the possibility of seeing people face-to-face from anywhere in the world. But what if video calls could feel as personal as chatting over coffee with an old friend? Someone Like Me brings a unique twist to video interactions, helping users feel like they’re genuinely in the same room with their new friends, no matter where they’re connecting from.
In this blog, we’ll dive into how Someone Like Me’s video call feature stands out. It’s more than just a digital face-to-face—this app prioritizes comfort, trust, and true connection. From thoughtful pacing to verified interactions, Someone Like Me creates a welcoming, pressure-free atmosphere that feels like home.
Why Video Calls Make Friendships More Genuine
Let’s face it: Text messages can only convey so much. While texting has its perks, video calls add depth, letting you see someone’s expressions, body language, and hear their voice. This form of communication brings people closer, helping friends feel connected even across continents. Someone Like Me’s video call feature allows users to progress from initial chats to face-to-face conversations as they feel comfortable, ensuring genuine friendships flourish.
In Someone Like Me, you’re connecting with like-minded people who share your outlook, hobbies, or lifestyle. By moving from text to video, you can see them as they truly are. And that simple visual contact makes all the difference.
Building Comfort and Trust Through Gradual Interactions
One of the things that makes Someone Like Me unique is the phased interaction approach. Users don’t jump directly into video calls; instead, they start with text chats, build rapport, and progress at their own pace. This gradual interaction approach is especially valuable for those who might feel nervous about jumping straight into a video chat with someone new.
For introverts and others who prefer taking things slow, phased interactions ensure that the process feels natural and comfortable. Each step forward—from texting to audio calls and then video—happens only when both users feel ready. This feature empowers you to connect on your terms, allowing friendships to evolve naturally.
Verified Profiles: Why Safety Adds to Comfort
In an era where online safety is paramount, Someone Like Me takes security seriously. Every profile goes through a verification process, giving you peace of mind about who’s on the other side of the screen. This verified profiles feature reduces anxiety, enabling you to open up and enjoy conversations without worrying about who’s really behind the camera.
Verification isn’t just about safety; it’s also about authenticity. Seeing that a profile is verified encourages users to feel comfortable and fosters trust, letting you focus on building a connection without reservations.
Real Connections, Not Just Matches
Someone Like Me isn’t another app designed solely for matching. It’s a space to build real friendships with people who are genuinely interested in meaningful connections. The app’s thoughtful approach means that every video call is between two people who’ve already established a foundation through texting and audio calls. This progression makes video calls feel more personal, as they’re not just a feature but a milestone in growing a friendship.
The app brings together aligned individuals—those on the same wavelength and ready to foster lasting connections. When you know that the person on the other end is looking for the same kind of friendship, video calls become more than just a chat—they’re a way to deepen a connection.
Meeting Like-Minded People from Around the World
Someone Like Me’s unique continent unlocking feature allows users to expand their social circles globally. By unlocking continents, users can connect with people across different countries and cultures. This global reach means that your next video call could be with a kindred spirit from halfway around the world.
Imagine connecting with someone from a completely different culture and sharing stories about your daily life, hobbies, or favorite foods. The excitement of discovering new perspectives through the app’s video call feature creates friendships that are rich, diverse, and meaningful.
How the “Ticked” Status Builds Trust
The ticked status on profiles signals a level of completion and verification that instills confidence in interactions. A profile with a “tick” means the user has completed their profile and verified their identity, adding another layer of comfort to video calls. Knowing that the person you’re speaking with has taken these steps makes each interaction feel safe and genuine.
The ticked status isn’t just a security feature; it’s also a way for users to feel assured that they’re chatting with someone who values the authenticity of the platform. This trust-building feature goes hand-in-hand with video calls, making it easier to feel comfortable opening up to your new friend.
Video Calls with Genuine, Like-Minded Friends
Video calling becomes even more enjoyable when you know the person on the other end is a like-minded individual who truly understands you. Someone Like Me prioritizes genuine friendships, ensuring that every connection is based on shared values, interests, and goals. This makes conversations flow easily, and video calls feel as natural as meeting a friend in person.
Meeting kindred spirits who share your outlook on life makes video calls feel authentic, fostering meaningful friendships that don’t rely on small talk. Each call offers a chance to learn more about your new friend and solidify your bond.
Discovering Congruent Thinkers and Building Friendships That Last
Finding congruent thinkers is rare, but Someone Like Me’s features make it possible to connect with those who share your thought process and values. This app isn’t about quick matches or superficial connections. It’s a place to meet people who resonate with your lifestyle, hobbies, and beliefs.
Through gradual steps—starting from text, moving to audio, and finally video—Someone Like Me allows you to connect at a comfortable pace. This journey leads to friendships that are built on real understanding, giving you a support network of congruent thinkers and sympathetic minds.
Embracing the Art of Face-to-Face Connection, Digitally
Video calls on Someone Like Me offer a space where you can see, hear, and understand your new friends, all while embracing the comfort of your own home. For introverts and those who prefer personal connections, this is a way to experience face-to-face interaction without the usual pressure of in-person meetings.
Why Video Calls Are Perfect for Introverts
For introverts, the prospect of meeting new people can be daunting. Video calls provide a way to connect without the overwhelming nature of physical meetups. Someone Like Me’s phased interaction model is designed with introverts in mind, allowing them to progress from texting to video at their own speed.
Introverts thrive when they’re able to connect in a comfortable environment, and video calls offer that. There’s no need to worry about finding the right words—just let the conversation flow naturally, knowing that you’re chatting with someone who values your friendship.
Making Friends Who “Get You” With Someone Like Me
Finding people who understand you—who genuinely get your quirks, values, and humor—is priceless. Someone Like Me makes it easy to meet birds of a feather who appreciate your unique personality. This app brings together individuals who are of one mind, ensuring that every interaction is authentic and enjoyable.
Through video calls, you’re able to deepen your connection with friends who truly get you. This sense of mutual understanding is what makes friendships on Someone Like Me so fulfilling, as you’re connecting with people who are in sync with your mindset and lifestyle.
Building Lasting Friendships That Feel Like Home
Someone Like Me doesn’t just introduce you to friends; it connects you with a community that feels like home. Video calls allow you to maintain those friendships, whether you’re living nearby or across the globe. It’s a platform designed for people who want lasting relationships with aligned minds and shared values.
Imagine logging into a video call, seeing a familiar face, and feeling that comforting sense of friendship. Someone Like Me gives you that experience, offering connections that feel genuine and true.
Conclusion: Make Meaningful Connections with Someone Like Me
If you’re ready to build friendships that feel real, Someone Like Me is the perfect platform. It goes beyond simple chat or video calls, providing you with a structured yet comfortable way to meet like-minded individuals. From the ticked status and phased interaction to continent unlocking and verified profiles, each feature supports the goal of building friendships that last.
Someone Like Me brings you into a world where video calls feel personal, friendships are genuine, and safety is prioritized. Start your journey today, and meet friends who truly understand you.

Entertaining Foreign Guests Leads to Global Friendships
My husband and I agreed to allow a French couple traveling worldwide on bicycles to stay at our house when they came down the Silver Comet Trail near us. My stepson is the leader of the American group of Esperanto speakers. He met this couple at a conference earlier last month, and when he heard that they were coming our way and needed a place for the night to shower and sleep, he asked us if we…

I really need for people to start connecting some dots.
Russia, a nation guilty of horrid human rights abuses for decades, continues indiscriminate bombings of residential areas in Syria and is engaging in a war of wholesale destruction against Ukraine, and by extension a proxy war with NATO (which includes the US), for the expansion and reassertion of its empire and dominance against allied western Europe.
China, a nation guilty of horrid human rights abuses for decades, is engaging in a war of interference and aggression with the political apparatus of several sovereign nations (including the US) and has announced its intention to forcibly retake Taiwan, for the expansion and reassertion of its dominance in the Pacific.
Iran, a nation guilty of horrid human rights abuses for decades, is engaged in a proxy game of chicken with Israel (and by extension the US as its main ally) via the combatant groups it funds and arms: Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, Hezbollah, Houthi Rebels, with a very real threat of becoming a full scale regional war with the stakes being nothing less than the destruction of Israel and expansion and reassertion of Islamist dominance in the entire SWANA.
Russia, China and Iran are formally allied to one another.
That is why the US is not going to stop supporting or funding Israel, even if we might institute limitations on how that funding is used (or more realistically, changing what military equipment we send them), and even if Biden is grey rocking Netanyahu in every communication.
We know (as do all nations) that the abandonment of an ally at a time of conflict sends horrible messages to other allies (will we abandon them if things get dicey? Will we use our size and resources to force our will on them rather than respecting their sovereignty? Is our alliance for them or for our imperial interests?) and sends a signal to the enemies of the (ex) ally that they can do what they please without the threat of the nation with the largest military watching.
In the current global climate, the US is the bulwark against Russia, China and Iran doing whatever they want, to whomever they want, wherever they want. We aren’t going to do anything that messes with that precarious balance.
It’s also why the Biden administration and Democrats are so adamant about continuing support to Ukraine, and why it is so alarming that Republicans are disinclined to do so, at best, and outright opposed at the baffling worst.
The world is complex, brutal and in many saddening ways an ongoing game of 4D chess that cannot be reduced down to slogans and sentence fragment imperatives. It’s necessary to look at things from both the micro and macro perspectives.

wow you took that former friend/student stuff really well, like a really level headed reaction. Have you always been able to do that? How do you think you’ve reached that kind of mental equilibrium? I’ve always found anyone leaving my life so intensely stressful and upsetting even if it’s someone I want to leave.
haha well I’ve continued thinking about it several times a day over the past few days so I wouldn’t say the experience has been stress-free! in this case it helps that I’ve read like five different articles in the last week on people breaking off longstanding friendships or relationships over the Israel-Palestine conflict so I’m like ah well it’s not just me experiencing this… people’s emotions are super heightened right now and I think there’s a lot of tacit (or explicit!) encouragement to cut out people who don’t share your exact position or aren’t performing their opinions in the exact way you think they should.
I also think it helps to remember that in most interpersonal conflicts there’s not one person who is Right & Good and one person who is Wrong & Bad… instead people tend to be a little bit right AND a little bit wrong or biased or short-sighted. I think she is right that the situation is very urgent (people are losing their lives and it’s happening terrifyingly fast) and I think she’s justified in having her emotions run really high over this, as she’s been immersing herself in extremely graphic, wrenching content 24/7. but I also feel reasonably secure in my own position! I don’t think social media is a productive place to engage in political advocacy or to do any actually meaningful learning about complex issues. I don’t think we have a moral obligation to post graphic content documenting the horrible deaths of others on our private social media accounts (in fact I think the opposite!!). and I also think it’s okay for people to be like ‘you know what? I am not an expert in this. I need to take some time to read/learn/explore conflicting viewpoints—and I can afford to take that time because I am not a political leader or an army or a government, I am just a person half a world away who is trying to understand a different region’s insanely messy and complex history/politics so that I can hold an informed opinion and advocate for actions aligned with my beliefs and values.’
it kinda bummed me out that she chose to be like ‘bye forever’ given our many years of working together, but also, she had been posting stuff for days that was like ‘if you are not reposting this I am going to unfollow you I am watching you I am taking notes I see your silence as complicity’ so it wasn’t like, a huge surprise that she would react that way. idk sometimes interpersonal conflict like that can be painful but can also prompt good reflection… I feel like she’s pushed me to read a lot more (I don’t trust her sources, but it’s made me seek out sources I do trust to confirm some of the info she’s sharing). but I also feel like it’s reconfirmed for me that I am just not going to engage in super heated, super vitriolic discourse wars online and it’s okay with me if that choice leads some people to label me as not radical enough. idk if this answers your question I think this particular ending-of-a-friendship is pretty context-dependent, but I guess the whole, ‘two people can have a big falling-out and neither of them is all right or all wrong’ helps me avoid feeling too defensive or too wounded about it.
#nobody has to agree with me#but I guess the difference is like I can see and totally understand why she’s doing what she’s doing#even as i make different choices#I think there’s room for multiple ways of engaging with huge horrific global events#but she couldn’t do the same? like for her it was engage in the exact way that I am engaging or I end the friendship#and idk i don't think relationships often survive that kind of ultimatum#ANYWAY. to be clear.. the relentless bombardment with zero plan and seemingly zero concern for civilian casualties is massively fucked up!!#but i feel way less clear on what should happen about hamas or israel or palestine or whatever after

Good looooooooord
The amount of pressure you feel to fall in love with any guy that’s nice to you or return his feelings is INSANE
Like seriously the fact that we’re taught that rejecting someone or not being interested in someone makes us bad people??? That you always have to have a “valid” reason to not go out with someone??? That a deep and meaningful friendship is referred to as “just friends” but even a one week relationship is “something more”???
And I know I can act hypocritically in real life cuz I do perceive kind gestures from guys as romantic signs, which, yea, isn’t fucking nice to myself OR the guy. But how else am I supposed to react when that’s all I’ve been taught??? When you’re told that the only reason why a guy would ever be nice to you is because he wants to get in your pants.
Every time I see best friends that are of different genders in media I pray I PRAY that there won’t be anything romantic written for their relationship because I’m so TIRED of it. Why are friendships not good enough? Why can’t your best friend be someone that you’re not married to and never will?
Happy endings can be platonic.
The best outcome can be a friendship.
I’ve seen a lot of people talking about the Barbie movie and about the parts that touched on real-life dynamics, but the most uncomfortably real part to me is something I haven’t seen talked about yet, and it’s when Ken ultimately collapses and Barbie goes to talk to him. And EVERY TIME she tries to support him, he interprets her words as his cue to try and make a move romantically. And every time she gently rejects his advances he collapses wailing and slapping himself to the point that she feels bad. For being honest about not wanting a relationship with him.
“No, Ken, this isn’t the answer,” was the best line in response to his existential problems and I’m 100% glad they had both Barbie sticking to it and the other Kens positively supporting Ken without having to dunk on Barbie or call her a bitch for refusing to fake romantic feelings she does not have.
#barbie#the barbie movie#barbie and ken#i am kenough#am I aromantic or is this the consequence of the patriarchy?#does having feelings for someone feel liek betrayal because of generational womanhood trauma or do I have commitment issues?#globalization is cool until societal pressures start hitting harder from infinite angels#friendships are valid#i can’t believe tahts a take I’m actually writing#fuck me dude

New Horizons - The Whale and the Polar Bear
A story about friendship and roots Nanuq, the polar bear, had never felt the urge to leave his frozen home. The Arctic was his world—familiar and unchanging, or so he thought. His friend Kala, the whale, however, traveled all over the world and visited him every year, bringing tales of distant lands filled with warmth, color, and life. Nanuq listened with curiosity but never imagined venturing…

How to Maintain a Long - Distance Friendship
Everyone has friends who have moved to other countries and now you don't see each other in person anymore, some friendships fad shortly after the move.
Although we may not talk often, we still stay in touch by sending messages, voice notes, or making occasional calls. I also see photos and videos on social media and react to them, asking questions about the places they visit or the events they attend. This allows us to keep the connection alive.
However, sometimes people don't respond to my reactions or they just reply with something brief like "Everything is okey". It makes me wonder if they've already moved on with their lives - new friend, new interests and perhaps they've forgotten about the past.
So, how do you keep a long-distance friendship going?
