obvs the norwich/norfolk and smooth/wire fox terriers are clear examples, but broader also: the road isn't all that long from a lakeland to a welsh terrier, and they are both fox terriers in form and function. if we take a step to the left, irish terriers are taller and lighter in build, but overall similar. staying there, kerry blue largely came out of wheaten terriers. sealyhams are said to have influence from fox terriers and westies, but despite some details (ears and the longer body) are built on a frame very similar to scotties. scotties came from the same stock as cairns and westies. dandie dinmonts are just as bizarre as they've always been, so i'm not sure you could change it if you tried. and no one seems to agree on what exactly a jack russell terrier is anyway.

Today's tepid take is that there is absolutely no - none, zero - good reason for any of the british terrier breeds to not outcross to each other

Molly's a mixed-breed terrier! Her Mum was a Glen of Imaal which is a rare Irish breed (also known as a Wicklow Terrier, as the Glen of Imaal is in County Wicklow in Ireland). Because Glen's are so rare, if you want to breed Glen puppies there's a lot of extra paperwork you have to go through - and while the owners of Molly's Mum were waiting for all this to get approved a neighbours dog who was a Border Terrier-Patterdale cross jumped over the garden fence and did the business first. So that's how Molly's litter came about 😅

So because she's three different kinds of terrier Molly is unbelievably stubborn, we got her in 2011 and she turned 13 back in August (though, without trying to get into too much detail in case I start crying again, she's been a bit unwell recently and the past couple of weeks have been a bit rough emotionally).

She's a very sweet dog though, and will happily be everyone's best friend and will happily accept pets and cuddles (and copious amounts of dog treats). She is just a wonderful scruffy little princess 👑

1) ooh.. if we got to throw out all the associated issues, then white. If we don't, then black with tan points :^)

2) I'm not sure on the rarest tbh! I haven't met many rare breeds. Maybe Pyrenean Shepherd? Skye Terrier? Glen of Imaal Terrier?

3) Sonny pissed directly on my boot when I took him for a walk last time, that was pretty funny. Brown Brown used to make little pig noises when I wrestled with her which is really cute imo.

4) So many! Sit pretty is a fun one. I don't know if heeling counts as a trick or not but it's so handy! Also I love the "hug" and "kiss" tricks, they're so sweet.

5) Yep! I have documents going back a decade with ideas in my Google Drive, lol. Mostly elements and space stuff.

Danish visitor staying in town for a few weeks, comes in now and then to pet the shelties (because shes here another week, alone) talking about dogs she'd like at some future point in time. Fauve de Bretagne, specifically, because she likes wirehairs and growing up they had terriers, irish ones...?

Kid in my shop today, 5-6 year range, 20 questions in under a minute type of deal, asking if i lived there, when my hair turned green, my dogs' names, where i walk them, turns to his sister and asks her which basset is it they have again?
