There are shitty glass makers making the ugliest stuff possible trying to sell those awful things for big money to people with no aesthetical sense who only want to brag about how much they spend on some useless dust catcher
And then!
Then there is this guy doing an absolutely incredible job of sculpting a realistic salmon out of glass

Top 10 Amazing Ancient Egyptian Inventions
Papyrus: The ancient Egyptians were the first to develop a writing material from the papyrus plant, which grew abundantly along the Nile River. This allowed them to record their history, literature, and knowledge in a durable format. Pyramids: The construction of the iconic Egyptian pyramids, such as the Great Pyramid of Giza, was an incredible engineering feat that showcased the Egyptians' mastery of architecture, mathematics, and organization. Hieroglyphics: The Egyptians developed a complex writing system using hieroglyphic symbols that could represent sounds, ideas, and objects. This allowed them to record their language, history, and religious beliefs. Calendar: The Egyptians created one of the earliest known calendars, dividing the year into 12 months of 30 days each, with an additional 5 days at the end. This helped them track the seasons and organize their agricultural activities. Fun fact: molten glass is completely transparent. It has a very similar index of refraction and is totally colorless.
However, because it is very hot, it is emitting a great deal of blackbody radiation from everywhere. And this is generally considerably brighter than anything you'd see through it. It's like how glass is hard to see through when it's light on your side and dark on the other - it is still transparent but the transmitted light is swamped by the reflected. Only for molten glass, the swamper is the blackbody radiation.

"The heart of alchemy is transformation. Something new is created based on how you transform the existing elements. - Dee, The Caves of Wonder
Dee is fascinated by alchemy because he focuses on its quest to find the formula to transmute base metals into gold. He needs the gold to continue his search for his missing parents. And he will do almost anything to get the key to transmutation. But he’s missing just how important the early alchemists have been to life today.
They created:
- Perfumes - Cosmetics - Paints and dyes - Textiles - Glassmaking - The tanning of leather

this question sounds unhinged but it's for a WIP. Does anyone know of any chemical or substance involved in glassmaking/glassblowing that could theoretically be used to make drugs? Like a by- or waste product, or even a chemical used to color the glass?
#i got a C in high school chemistry so this is not my realm#i'm a writer i promise#glass blowing#glassmaking#glass production

Heart of Glass
Don’t tell me the moon is shining; show me the glint of light on broken glass. ~~Anton Chekhov [Our glass horse from Murano, Italy. Photo is mine.] Sometime in the ancient distant foggy and shadowy history of human existence, someone discovered how to make glass. This is thought to have occurred around 4,000 years ago. I don’t have the month or day, but I’ll check on that and get back to you…
