Kiss Bang
Kiss Bang
August 20, 2020
WC: 1964
-----
When you fell asleep on the gunner, his face had immediately flushed a violent crimson. No matter how much time had passed since you and Prompto got together, the blind always reacted this way when surrounded by the others. Noctis had been the first to notice, a sly smirk alighting on his lips. He had known of his best friend's feelings for you since he and Prompto had met you in high school.
***
It had been their last year of high school, and they were hanging out in the arcade they frequented. Prompto was watching Noct try his hand at one of the shooter games, the blond smirking as the prince fumble terribly.
"C'mon, Noct, just admit it," Prompto smiled, clasping his friend's shoulder. "You're just not good at shooter games."
"Like hell I'll ever admit that," the prince grumbled. He was about to give it another go when you showed up. Both he and Prompto could only watch in awe as you decimated the pixelated enemies, far surpassing even Prompto's score. When you finished, you had taken the top spot on the leaderboard with a small smirk. As you turned, Prompto caught sight of your eyes. They were breathtaking. Literally, he forgot to breathe.
"Dude, you're turning purple," Noct muttered, and Prompto inhaled deeply -- too deep, because he started coughing. Your (e/c) hues turned to him, concern evident in your gaze as you watched the blond struggle to breathe. You vaguely remember seeing him around school, but couldn't for the life of you remember what his name was -- or if you actually knew it.
"Hey, are you okay?" you asked, placing a hand on the blond's shoulder. His blue-violet eyes clashed with your own, making you inhale sharply.
Bang.
"Ye-yeah," Prompto stumbled, hurrying to stand straight and giving you a shy smile. "I-I'm fine, thanks."
***
You couldn't get the blond boy out of your head. He was beautiful: the freckles that painted his cheeks and nose, that gentle smile he had given you. And, fuck, his eyes. They were the most intense color you had ever seen, a sea of blue encased in violet. You were sure that no human being could possess eyes like his, and yet--
"(Y/n)!" your friend yelled, snapping you out of your reverie. Your head snapped up, looking them in the eyes. They had a small frown on their face. "You okay? You've been acting weird ever since you talked to that blond..."
"Yeah, I'm fine," you reassured them, taking a sip from your soda. Your friend watched you skeptically, but you paid them no mind -- your brain was filled with thoughts of the blond, and only him. Why hadn't I talked to him before? Had I just never noticed him? No, I clearly remember seeing him in the halls at school... so why--
Again, you were pulled from your thoughts by your friend's voice, dragging you into a conversation. So engrossed talking with your friend, you didn't notice a certain blond watching you.
"Prompto, stop staring. It's creepy..." Noct mumbled, the prince trying the shooter game again. Prompto's blond brows furrowed at his friend's choice of words, yet he didn't stop. Blue-violet orbs looked at the uniform you wore, and Prompto frowned. You went to his school, so why hadn't he seen you before? You looked to be about the same age as him and Noct, but he couldn't be certain.
The more he watched you talk with your friend, the more Prompto wanted to get to know you. You had overtaken him in his best game, beating out his score several times over. That wasn't just luck -- you had undeniable skill with guns. But he couldn't help but wonder if that was all you were skilled with.
Even days later, Prompto was on the lookout for you at school, and as the weekend rolled around he couldn't help but feel a certain pang of disappointment. The longer he went without seeing you -- without talking with you -- the lesser his chances felt to even approach you.
"I just don't get it, Noct," the blond whined, trailing after the prince. "She was wearing our uniform, but I haven't seen her at all."
"What's blondie on about?" Gladio grumbled, joining the two boys.
"A girl he met at the arcade," Noct answered plainly.
"Not just any girl!" Prompto defended. "She was awesome! Noct, you saw the way she used guns! You can't tell me it wasn't amazing!"
"Guns?" That had piqued Gladio's interest, amber eyes turning to the blond. "What did she look like?"
"Why?" Prompt asked slowly, his eyes narrowing.
"Because now I'm curious," Gladio snorted. He stretched his arms over his head, closing his eyes for the briefest of seconds. "Besides, the Guard just got a new recruit, around your guys' age. She's pretty handy with guns, too. So, tell me: what did she look like?"
"She had (e/c) eyes and (h/c) hair, and was about this tall," Prompto began, lifting his hand up to his shoulder. A smile was quick to split his face. "Man, you should've seen her! She was amazing, Gladio!"
"(E/c) and (h/c), huh?" the Shield muttered, hand lifting to rest on his chin. "Sounds like (Y/n) -- the new recruit I was telling you about."
(Y/n). Prompto let the name roll around in his mind before a smile came to his face.
"You think we'll get to meet her today?" Prompto blurted out, his face growing hot when he realized what he had said. Gladio let out a hearty laugh at the expression on the blond's face.
"Yeah. She's training with us today."
***
"Whoa." Prompto had to agree with Noct. Never in a million years did he think he'd see someone so comfortable with firearms, yet (Y/n) used them as if they were extensions of your own body. You were quick, too; never wasting a single second as you demonstrated for the others trainees. Your body was firm in its position as you fired, moving nary a centimeter from the gun's recoil.
Prompto’s tongue was nearly hanging out of his mouth as he watched you. It wouldn’t be an understatement to say the blond was awestruck.
“Noct! Noct!” he whispered, tugging at the back of the prince’s shirt. He heard Noct snort, but he turned to watch you regardless. Yes, the prince had seen you utterly kill it at the arcade game, but watching you use live firearms -- it made Noct uneasy. The way you moved, the way you carried yourself made it seem like you were born to fight.
When training had wrapped up, Prompto found the courage to approach you. You were maintaining your gun.
“He-hey,” Prompto stuttered, and you turned to face him. When your eyes met his, you nearly dropped your gun, not expecting to see the blond again -- least of all here.
“Hey,” you replied quietly, your eyes straying to look at the table. Prompto noticed this, and a small frown alighted on his features for a split second.
“I’m Prompto,” he smiled, hand outstretched. You only saw it because you had dared to look back at him. You hesitated for a moment before clasping his hand in your own.
“I’m (Y/n).”
“I know.” Your raised brow had Prompto trying to backtrack. “I-I mean -- Gladio, he--”
“I guess he told you, then,” you grinned. “That man has got to learn how to keep his mouth shut.”
“Sorry…”
“Not your fault,” you shook your head, taking your hand back and finishing with your firearm. It reminded Prompto why he had approached you in the first place.
“Hey, I was wondering,” he began, eyes shifting to look to his right. His hand came to rest at his nape, a slight flush painting his face and ears. He was silent for a few moments before his blue-violet eyes flicked back to meet yours. “Could you teach me?”
“Teach you?” you parroted. You had seen him during training; he didn’t need help with firearms.
“Yeah, teach me.” His lips pulled up in a brilliant smile, his eyes crinkling at the corners.
“Why me?”
“‘Cuz you’re the best gunner I know.”
Bang.
***
Your (e/c) eyes opened slowly, a slight smile on your lips when they were met with blond hair. Carefully, you sat up. It was rare that you woke before Prompto, and you intended to capitalize on it. A hand went to run through his hair, and you bit a knuckle of your free hand to keep from laughing. Prompto had let out a purr-like sound when you had touched his hair. His arms wrapped tighter around your waist, nose burying itself in your stomach.
“Need some help there?” Gladio smirked, but you shook your head.
“He needs to get some rest,” you whispered, smile turning gentle as you watched the blond. “He’s been pushing himself too hard lately.”
“That’s so he can keep up with you,” Gladio snorted, and you pouted at the man before looking down at Prompto. You had known the blond for three years now. When he had asked you to teach him, you had been skeptical at first. You didn’t think you could teach him all that much; he had already been one of the best gunmen you had seen, even at seventeen. Fairly quickly, it had turned into you being the one taught.
“He doesn’t have to worry about that,” you pout. You ran your hand through the blond strands again. “He’s already far out of my league, in many ways.”
***
After you had spoken with Gladio, you watched Prompto progress at an unnatural pace. He was a prodigy with firearms, you knew this, but you couldn’t help the pang of jealousy that struck your breast. It was there for not a moment before it was gone, leaving guilt in its place.
It had become a struggle to keep up with him, now. He was above and beyond what you could ever hope to be, at least in your lifetime. No matter how hard you tried, all you saw was his back as he kept going forward.
“Babe, you okay?” Prompto’s voice startled you, making your head snap up from where it rested on your knees.
“I’m fine, Live Wire,” you cooed. “Just a bit tired.”
“Then come on,” he grinned, grabbing your hand and pulling you to your feet. He laced your fingers with his, his smile turning from blinding to soft -- filled with love and adoration -- and pulled you into the tent. Your own smile graced your lips as you followed after the blond. He took up his spot between Gladio’s sleeping bag and Ignis’s, pulling you down with him.
Prompto’s arms wound around your waist, pulling you into his chest. His lips resting against your forehead, you could feel the smile that had yet to disappear.
Kiss.
“I love you, (Y/n),” he muttered, pressing kisses to your temples.
“I love you, too, Live Wire,” you giggled. The hands at your back disconnected, one going to your hand. His fingers, woven with yours once more, gave your hand a light squeeze. Suddenly, your eyes were met with seas of indigo, Prompto touching his nose to yours.
“My little dead-eye,” the blond cooed.
Bang.
“Fuck, why’re you so cute, dammit?!” you pouted. Prompto’s laugh encased you as he pulled you to his chest. You smiled against him, the vibrations of his chest eased your mind; there was no reason to feel envy towards the blond. You had both trained long and hard for the Crownsguard, and not once had he thought himself superior to you. You snuggled against his chest, “Thank you, Prompto.”
“Anytime, babe.”

So the prompt was from a conversation that basically went “wait video games are real in FFXV that means I can play my favourite games haha nice” which devolved “haha the lads reacting to you falling for vidy game characters” and going with it. Basically I took a shitpost prompt and ran with it.
Noctis Lucis Caelum
He is OFFENDED the moment you either say it casually or let it slip. After all he's the one who suggested playing the game together to spend time together, only for you to proclaim your love for one of the characters. To think you'd fall for someone that's not him and admit to it just like that? Preposterous.
In his mind he knows it's all fictional and you truly love him. His heart however? It knows a thing or two about jealousy from even one offhand comment about your new fave video game spouse. There are of course doubts here and there over just how much you truly love him but he tries to ignore them. Success varies depending on his current peace of mind. As best as he tries to keep this jealousy up under wraps, it's hard for Noctis to not subconsciously pout over it.
He knows you love him more than that person on the television screen but sometimes knowing for himself isn't enough and you telling him that your love for him is far greater if not entirely incomparable to that of a fictional character. He knows it's petty and childish, but he will be smug about it. Perhaps even a "Take that!" directed at them.
Takes up to teasing you over it. "Oh look, there's your Prince not as charming as me." whenever they appear on screen. No, the pillow to the face won't shut him up no matter how many times you throw it at him.
Prompto Argentum
He is distraught. Shaken. His own chocobae betraying him like this, in his own home no less. He is quickly reduced into a mess faster than you can add onto your passing comment; "Man I think I'm falling for this character.". He believes his entire love life career has ended then and there. Prompto has been trying to play the game of love and he just got a fatality.
He's known jealousy towards characters before, wishing he was as cool or as smart as them in the past but now he's found a new type: your affection for them. He puffs out his chest and attempts to be ten times cooler ten times braver and ten times more badass than his newfound rival and it's hard for him to be subtle about it.
Prompto does need to be told that it's only a passing fictional crush and your love for him outshines the crush for this character, and always will. Sure they're neat but he's the whole cake with a cherry on top.
Apologises weeks later for his crisis because he progressed further in the game and fell in love with a separate character and understands precisely how you feel. You two bond over your fictional crushes and holding their hands while lounging on Prompto's couch holding each other's hands.
Gladiolus Amicitia
He is indifferent. Partially indifferent. The other part is mildly offended he now has competition he can't square up with face to face. Can this character hold you in their arms? Give you kisses? Take you on long hikes? No? Then what's the point of loving them when he's right there ready to do all that and more.
He can't say much though. He plays a ton of fighting games (and mostly got good at them to wipe the floor with Noctis whenever they played against each other) and Astrals know how many times he's felt a little swoon over either lady or man who could snap his spine in half with no effort. Not to count the same crushes with the same standards from the plethora of books he's read. To protest your crush would make him a hypocrite and Gladiolus most certainly isn't one.
Not to say he doesn't slip in "Bet they can't love you as much as I do." and bringing you closer without a warning and smothering you with all the love only he can give. Nope, not jealousy. Not one bit. "You realise I love you more right?" you ask and he just beams like he heard it for the first time again.
Much like Noctis he will relentlessly tease you over this. No you can't shut him up. No he won't stop. No shoving a pillow in his face won't work like with Noctis and he'll dodge it. But Astrals forbid you find out about his own pile of fictional crushes because it works wonders as a counterattack.
Ignis Scientia
Mostly confused over literal pixels managing to get your affection. Not that he blames you considering his schedule offers little free time but he can't help but find himself… Thinking. The day he admits this "thinking" is his cover up for sulking is the day he will die. A small, horrible little thought wonders if you're finally falling out of love with him. Again, he won't blame you due to his work.
As silly as it is Ignis admits he feels jealousy. To himself only of course. He would rather die than let anyone else know that some fictional person has his heart in a twist over you. Him being so in control over his emotions is his triumph, but after it's been eating away at him after a while it becomes his downfall.
"Did you really think I'd legitimately choose anyone over you?" comes your response after he finally decides to open up what's causing his most recent fowl mood. He knows it's silly. He assumes you know he knows it's silly. Yet hearing those words has him beaming. Hiding the self assured smug smile becomes harder with each passing second.
Won't tease you as bad as Noctis and Gladio, but does make a passing comment every now and then. Though instead of teasing you over your crush, it's more in the ilk of "A shame they're not there to hold you like I am."
Lunafreya Nox Fleuret
She is FLOORED. What do you mean you love them? And what is she? A worm to you? She will be pouting about this and she will be miffed you can't take her seriously when she looks cute doing anything, including pouting. A shame she is very much so guilty of the same thing. You distinctly remember her talking about some muscle bound sword wielding girl in a television show a day before and how dreamy she was, and a week before about some ditzy male character in a book she found cute. She won't win this.
Jealous? Absolutely. Does she try to hide it? Yes and the keyword is try. You easily tell what's up when she's frowning at the television and that character appears. She'll have her few attempts at denying anything but finally caves in and admits that she does in fact envy your feelings for a bunch of pixels no matter how small the affection.
Knows she shouldn't need reassuring that you love her most but that doesn't stop her from revelling it when you confess your undying love. You can tell by the slight puffing up of her chest that she feels a GREAT sense of victory over this.
It's just back and forth teasing and both your fictional crushes turn into a battlefield. It's all a game who can get the other flustered worse and sadly there are no winners when you both end up a mess. It's all good, and the scores are always settled by cuddles right after the battle is fought.
Ravus Nox Fleuret
Frankly he is offended. Granted you cannot tell by his disgruntled look that seems to be ever prevalent no matter his current internal turmoil. He is right there in the flesh and you're fawning over pixels? He just doesn't get it and refuses to. Immediately takes the leap to conclusions and assumes you truly don't love this mess of a man anymore. Laments over his continuous loss and begins coming to terms with his fate of being unloved.
Tries not to be passive aggressive over it but it turns out it’s something easier said than done. Somehow he manages to perfectly convey it without any words - just glaring an impressive amount of daggers at the television screen. Hasn’t felt this jealous since that time before he could even muster up the courage to confess to you and he found out some random Niflheim soldier was chatting you up. At least then his competition was tangible. How was he to prove himself over some funky colours on the screen?
The cat’s finally out of the bag and your suspicions are confirmed when he makes his first ever direct remark: “What’s so great about them anyways.”. His tone absolutely takes you aback; he sounds like a sibling who received a second less worth of attention from a parent. Ravus has to get affirmation that you do in fact love him a whole lot more. Ravus will revel in this little fun fact - or would smug be a better word?
Cannot tease you without feeling jealousy creeping up and he absolutely hates himself for it. And so instead you get little offhand comments such as “Let them best me in a duel and we will see who wins your hand in marriage.” No varying levels of exasperation in your sigh will deter him, he will refuse to relent.
Ardyn Lucis Caelum
For the most part he is confused. Didn’t really think someone could catch a bad case of the feelings for a fictional character but sometimes it’s best some questions go unanswered. Jealousy? In my Ardyn? It’s… less likely than you think. He knows for a FACT whoever this person is on the screen cannot even begin to compare to what he has. Perhaps their one redeeming factor is not being a walking talking daemon parade and being able to not sting in sunlight but that’s not enough to outshine this package.
Doesn’t stop him from making a big show out of it all. He sees the chance to dramatically drape himself over your lap, lamenting how his one love has been snatched away by this stranger. The antics cannot and will not end.
Doesn’t really need confirmation that you do in fact love him more, but appreciates it when you say it nonetheless. That’s simply proving him right and the only thing he loves more than being right is you. The second bonus is more smugness to throw around. “Oh I pity that poor soul, never knowing what true love feels like. Unlike me, of course.”.
And a pity for you, because he’s found a new weaponised way to tease you with. A whole ten miles farther than Noctis or Gladio could ever wish for, you’d swear he’s writing you some sort of self insert fanfiction on the spot. The pros? He seems to be putting quite a lot of effort into it. The cons? He’s doing it specifically just to fluster you, alongside the things he decides to come up with to achieve that goal.
Aranea Highwind
Her confidence has not wavered since she found out. Or rather, it hasn’t wavered that much. Psh, of course you still love her. Right? Right? Good thing that inner turmoil is kept under wraps. She’d much rather an Astral strike her down where she stands rather than have to admit she has beef with a fictional character you just so happened to take a liking to.
Gets all in a little jealous twist wondering exactly what she’s missing. What does that pixelated rando have that she doesn’t? A physical body for one and that leaves her ever so slightly questioning her lover capabilities. Has she failed? Is this how it ends? You somehow ride off into the sunset with this character somehow materialised? What a life to live and this shall be her legacy.
Her act gets thrown off and while normally concerning, this time you’re grateful so you can pinpoint just what’s on her mind. She may huff all she wants but there’s not much one can do caught red handed. Logically she knows she doesn’t need that affirmation but emotionally? By the Astrals does she wanna hear it. “You do realise… I love you more right…?” Damn right you do. Her confidence has reached astronomical new levels.
There is no grandiose teasing but there is a few smug comments. Her goto is looking at the screen and tutting; “A shame they’ll never be me, huh babe?”. Absolutely takes is as a competition and knows she can win every battle by simply stating that she can do it ten times better, and will do it now given the chance.

#14 with Noctis please. Thank you ♡
14. “Is that my shirt?”
Two of you requested this with Noctis, aaaah!
“Ah, shit!”
Ignis jostles from the other side of the campfire, his bowl of still-steaming garden curry nearly toppling from its placement atop his lap and down into the dirt. “Heavens,” he breathes, reaching up to readjust his spectacles before casting you a look of utter disbelief from over the crackling flame. “What’s happened?”
You didn’t need to tell him for him to know; glistening down the entirety of your shirt was your own garden curry, the deep brown of the tumeric sauce already doing a number on the fabric that you’re struggling to keep pulled away from your skin. Having misconceived the general heat of the meal, you lasted but a few seconds of grasping the porcelain before quickly letting it slip from your fingers… You hadn’t expected it to actually fall back onto you, though. That was your fault.
“I’m so sorry, Ignis,” you speak through a hiss, body shifting in the folding chair to better keep your skin out of contact with your saturated shirt. “I didn’t mean to drop it, I —”
“It’s quite alright,” he says cooly, no longer panic-stricken as he cups his own bowl with careful fingers before leaning to gently set it down onto the ground. “I keep a duffel with spare garments in the trunk of the Regalia for situations such as these… I’ll go and retrieve a shirt for you.”
“Thank you…” You sigh, swallowing at the tightening knot of gratitude that’s forming in the back of your throat. “Thank you so much, Ignis.”
You think you see him smile as he goes to stand, but your peripheral has the majority of your attention; standing near the makeshift kitchen of the campsite is Noctis, Prompto and Gladio, all of whom are deeply rooted in conversation of vegetables while serving up their own steaming bowls of curry. Whether or not they saw you make a mess of yourself, you weren’t sure, but you were definitely thankful that they hadn’t had a front-row seat to it like Ignis had.
Humiliation would have you packing your bags if that were the case.
Upon the strategist’s return with a spare shirt not but a minute later, you make sure to retrieve it and dismiss yourself right as the others are coming over to have a seat, hoping against hope that they don’t ask questions or take notice of the spilled vegetables and rice scattered across the dirt around your chair. Once sneaking off behind the tent to practically peel off your shirt to change, however, you hear Ignis tell them about your accident, anyway. No one laughs, surprisingly — outside of a playful “whoops” from Gladio, the topic is dropped entirely.
Until you walk back out.
The fabric is comfortable against your skin, soft from years of use, and it isn’t until the light of the campfire illuminates your approaching figure that colored, pixelated little figures appear against the front and immediately catch Noctis’ attention.
“All better, (Y/N)?” Ignis casually asks, tipping a plastic cup to his mouth and sipping at the contents inside.
You prepare yourself to answer, lips parting to comment on just how thankful you were until a voice cuts across the other side of the fire.
“Is that my shirt?”
Your eyes quickly meet the slate-grey pits of the Prince, who’s stopped chewing his mouthful of curry entirely. “Is it?” You ask, breaking his gaze to glance down at yourself. You truly hadn’t known, but it had made sense; not only was the smell familiar, but the characters of King’s Knight was a dead giveaway. You’d only taken what you’d been given, and you didn’t even take a moment to look at it before walking off to change into it.
“It is, Noct,” Ignis smoothly cuts in. “I figured it would fit her figure the most comfortably.”
For several moments, Noctis says nothing, eyes flitting between your eyes and the way that the fabric modestly yet snugly fits to the swell of your breasts and the flare of your hips. You can’t help but fidget beneath his scrutiny.
“You can have it, I guess,” he finally says, leaning further back in his folding chair. “It… looks better on you.”
Ignis lowers his chin to glance at Noctis from over his glasses. “That’s your favorite shirt.”
The Prince acknowledges this with a nod, eyes dropping to sift his fork through his curry before he’s looking back over at you again. “I know. Who says that I can’t be nice?”
What Ignis doesn’t see, however, is the half-grin that Noctis gives you when all eyes turn away, and the heat in your cheeks has nothing to do with the warmth of that night’s campfire.

Writer ask meme
Tagged by @kitty-bandit, @silentium-nightshade and @faeriexqueen - thanks a lot :D Answers under the cut because it’s long and who has the time for that.
1. Explain your AO3 handle.
It's just a variant of the screen name I came up back when I was fourteen and obsessed with Middle Ages. It's pretty dumb, but I got used to it and kinda like the shape of those lowercase letters.
2. Favorite fanfiction trope?
Mutual pining. Give me all the sad idiots that don't realize how much they mean to the love of their life! Give me their awkward fumbling as they fail to express their feelings and stay convinced the other could never possibly reciprocate! Give me the stolen touches and fleeting glances and weak excuses to be as close to each other as they dare!
3. Favorite place to write?
My room, door closed, absolute silence everywhere, or at the very least earplugs/some white noise in my headphones.
4. Favorite ships in your current fandom?
In DGM it's laven, always and forever, my precious lost dorks ♥ And as you can notice, I've also fallen into FFXV and promptis hell recently. Here's your fair warning that I'll be writing quite a bit of it in the future.
5. What are your steps to get into the Writing Mood™?
Basically just daydreaming the scenes I need to write next. When I can see them in my mind clearly enough, I'm ready to write -- otherwise I fumble a lot and they don't come out feeling very natural.
6. What program/app do you use to write?
I draft things out in Notepad and clean the finished thing in Word. I find that Notepad is less intimidating in a way -- I can just drop loose messy notes in it and not worry about things being perfect, while Word and other “proper” programs pressure me to Get It Right on the first try. Recently I've also started turning my laptop off and jotting my notes down by hand instead, and that helps a lot in keeping away all the internet distractions! (I do transfer those notes to Notepad later, though -- actual writing is way quicker on the keyboard, and as a non-native speaker I need my dictionaries and Google).
7. List your zodiac sign, favorite ice cream flavor, Hogwarts House, and your opinion on pineapple pizza.
Cancer, mint with chocolate chips, Slytherin, and sure I'll eat that
8. Link us a fanfic that made you cry.
Two of Cups by @kitty-bandit makes me cry every time I read it. It's so full of raw love and passion, and has such a wonderful, intimate atmosphere. It makes me very emotional.
9. Link us a fanfic that made you laugh.
Tumbling down the ffxv hole, I've discovered that I love Ignis/Gladio written as comedy. Marry in Haste, Regen at Leisure by fictionfinding is a gem, those fast-paced, quippy dialogues had me howling.
10. Link us a fanfic that left you in complete awe at the writer’s ability.
I'm always completely in awe of @kitty-bandit‘s ability to plot out long, complex stories, fill them with action and tension, and see them through till the end. Her Lost Time is probably where it hit me the most. I'm seriously amazed at how she comes up with all her ideas and puts them together so they fit perfectly like puzzle pieces. I also just have to mention Warmth by @carolyncaves as it had literally reduced me to stumbling in a stunned daze for a few days. I fell in love with the narration there, with those vivid descriptions and the striking way of building the scenes so they grip you tight with suspense.
11. List your kinks.
I don't really read porn and I'm extremely vanilla, but I always appreciate heavy makeouts/clothed sex, some non-con with a heavy focus on hurt/comfort later, and certain very specific aspects of the Fuck or Die trope.
12. How do you come up with your ideas?
I don't really come up with ideas as much as they come to me; I tend to write things I want to read myself. Sometimes I draw inspiration from life (one of my current WIPs is based on a really terrible attempt at an omelette I made recently...), other times they develop from random headcanons as I try to flesh out my desperately lacking characterization and get into the characters' heads better.
13. How do you implement said ideas into a cohesive narrative?
I write mostly short stuff, so there's not really a lot of work for me to do in terms of plotting. If I feel the need to see a particular scene, I just put it down and try to build some more context around it until it can pass for a drabble/fic -- so I think back on all the "why"s, figure out how that situation could come to be and where it leads to based on the characters' reactions and dialogue.
14. What are your working on right now? Share a little snippet or a description.
I'm working on a bunch of stuff, jumping form one thing to another, so... have this tiny bit of a very random promptis drabble? (I'm sorry, I promise y'all some laven for Christmas, but for now I'm just. In the mood for this ;;;;;;;;;)
When he needed to, Noctis could be an incredibly patient man.
He had withstood the trials of adolescence that came with being royalty in a public high school. His scarce public appearances were a constant display of diplomacy and self-control as he deflected obnoxious, invasive questions from the press. He managed not to nap in most of the bi-weekly council meetings. And of course, when all of that was done, he could spend hours on end sitting still and silent on a pier with a fishing rod in hand.
All of that patience, however, evaporated like a daemon on a summer morning some time around his third game over in a row.
"Damn it," he groaned, slamming the control panel with his fist. Prompto flinched, but the dull clang of metal drowned in the noise around them. The arcade was busy enough that no one paid any mind to their crown prince assaulting the machines -- even though Noct did his best to make sure Prompto could hear his discontent over the crowd.
"Did you see that?" He waved his hand at the screen, where his avatar was still blinking red in a cloud of pixellated explosion. "I totally had it! This is cheating!"
"You think it's rigged?" Prompto poked the machine with the tip of his boot. If it was, he couldn't see any signs of tampering, other than the peeling stickers and a few choice words of graffiti on the side.

The Trash Man’s Mystery Height (Aka: The Height Ref) ((AKA Aka: Too Much Time On My Hands))
TAGS BECAUSE I’M PROUD AND WANT PEOPLE TO SEE THIS: @wrathwritesthings @themissimmortal @hypaalicious @louisvuittontrashbags
SO, this question has always bugged me? Is Ardyn tall or short? Or a nice inbetween? Now in actuality it’s never been a doubt in my mind that Ardyn is at least six feet, but that still begs the question, how many inches do I need to shave off or add? Welp, let’s take a look, shall we?
(HERE GOES MY ATTEMPT AT BEING DEDUCTIVE.)
I would like to introduce you to height template number one of this little journey, this is the official heights of all four main men in FFXV, down to the Centimeters, I also added a pixel wide bar to show from Prompto to Gladio just how much shorter Prom is than Gladdy, which frankly surprised me, I honestly expected there to be a bigger height difference than that, what with how much of a behemoth Gladio is, and yet Prom comes up to just below Gladios jawline.
Now that you have some perspective on how short (or not short) our sweet muffin turns out to be, lets take a look at some screenshots I got while meticulously searching through letsplays and speedruns of the game, starting with: Episode Prompto.
Soooooo.... correct me if I’m wrong, but that’s a big fucking height gap right there, isn’t it?
Here, lets’s take a little measurement:
Return of the angry red measurement line: The tip of Proms beanie manages to reach the weird frilly bit on his seven billion layers of clothing. Things to take into consideration: Prom is leaning forward, Ardyn is mid movement, Ardyn has his head tilted down to look condescendingly at Prompto. In general it’s a good gist of their respective heights but there are things to consider before making it the Magnum Opus on his height.
Blue is where the tip of the beanie starts, red is where I think I can’t stress enough I only THINK his head would start, give or take a few pixels in width, Ardyn is tilted to the side and in this image the red bar is below his jawline, they aren’t moving as much but they also aren’t facing each other, something to (again) take into account.
Now for the great pain: We all know that Prom is the shortest, so what’s above is almost moot in finding out specifically how tall this guy is, therefore I’ll move to the next extreme, the tallest guy we know. Gladio.
Fair warning; some of these pics are very blurry because I was going through and finding individual frames that I thought looked best for this. Almost all of these are at weird angles and just in general kinda bad.
Lets start with this one here, in Galdin Quay:
Gladio is VERY close to the camera (for example, Prompto’s (who is next to him in this scene) head alone takes up the entire screen for a moment), and yet Ardyn still manages to keep up height next to him, but this is a bad angle and can make everyone look way taller or shorter than they really are, lets move on:
This is the next frame after Ardyn walks past them, it’s the closest I could get Ardyn next to Gladio and the guys, and as I said before: He holds his height against Gladio. And an argument could be made But he’s wearing large boots! Yes, I’ll give you that, but I counter with this: Gladio, the man who frequently gets into battles, who loves to go camping and hiking, prooooooobably isn’t wearing flip-flops, so the height difference there is so slight it’s pointless.
Let’s move on: The Lestallum Scene!
Here’s the only good frame I could get of Cutscene!Ardyn next to Gladio, and personally: I think it says a lot: They’re pretty close to each other, Gladio’s posture is mostly straight whereas Ardyn is bent in a funky way toward Prom and Noct (who look about as big as children here) and yet... He’s still pretty damn tall next to Gladio. Once again boots/shoes are not going to be playing a part in this and a thick trench coat and hood is not gonna make him gain inches in height, or any height at all, really.
So for the next and final big gripe: Cutscene models and live models’ heights have a tendency to differ WILDLY in this game, making incredibly tall people seem short and incredibly short people seem tall, I personally think that Cutscene body types should be regarded as the “real” character sizes, but for the sake of thoroughness, I got some while they’re walking around too:
This photo is meh, it catches a general feel for their height and it’s pretty amusing. This is Ardyn, he covers his face with his own name and doesn’t like standing. But yeah, he’s mid step and still about as tall as Gladio who hasn’t moved yet.
NEXT. The Big Kicker:
It’s blurry, but they’re right next to eachother. Ardyn is moving just slightly and is the exact same- if not taller- height than Gladio, he’s not a short dude.
And so, for my final height model, I present this:
The general height I think Ardyn is: one or two cm taller than Gladdy.
So how tall should I say he is???: I don’t know exactly. These are all eyeballing guesses at his height, he really could be a lot shorter than Gladio, or he could be a seven foot tall man-giant. It’s all up to you and your own preference, if big Daddy Gladdy is still the reigning Height King, then go Gladdy! If you think that Ardyn as become The Usurper of more than one throne, then daaaaamn congrats Ardyn you’re a big dude!
IN CONCLUSION: I hope this helps people trying to understand the stature of their beloved characters and trash man. Cya guys later! -Jo

So I was playing the Episode Gladio DLC the other day because there were a few trophies I had missed, and something I didn’t realize on my initial playthrough was that you can take manual photos just like in the main game. So I whipped out the camera for the sole purpose of taking sexy pictures of Cor and shirtless Gladio, and that’s when I noticed something... odd.
Is that... another Cor?
Holy shit! It totally is!
He was chilling right there in the water after the first fight with ol’ one-arm. I feared he might disappear if I moved closer to him, but nope—he was content to just stand there while his fancy Louboutins got soggy.
(Side note: JFC the resolution of screencaps from the Xbone are just awful how am I supposed to appreciate Gladio’s abs when they’re so pixelated???)
TWINSIES!
I think the funniest thing is that both of their animation cycles were kind of in sync, so they would even facepalm in unison.
This must be their Ultimate Pose.
At no point did he ever leave the water, and he stuck around long after I’d moved onto the next objective. Goodbye, Second Cor—I barely knew thee!

The Final Fantasy XV Review (1/2)
This will be my review of FFXV. It will include everything FFXV related I either know about, experienced or played myself. And therefore, I’ll split it up. (I already know I’ll still forget some aspects I want to talk about. There’s just so much to look at.) I won’t summarize the story unless I feel it to be necessary.
Final Fantasy XV Episode Duscae (game demo) Final Fantasy XV Platinum Demo (game demo) Final Fantasy XV A King’s Tale (game)
Final Fantasy XV Brotherhood (animated shorts) Final Fantasy XV Kingsglaive (movie)
Final Fantasy XV (game)
Final Fantasy XV Episode Duscae:
Oh, the hype was real. It was possibly the realest shit I had ever experienced. I bought Final Fantasy Type-0 just for the demo. I did try to play Type-0 but it didn’t do it for me. Instead I invested about 60 hours into the demo, leveled up to 91 and recently went back to play it. And I figured out: The skills I used to have are gone. I’m used to XV’s battle system and when I attempt to go back, I find myself internally flailing my arms because WHICH BUTTON DOES WHAT WTF. I won’t go too much into detail. (I probably will nevertheless, oh well.) The first time the characters appeared on screen, I screamed at Ignis. He was the one, I just knew it. The sole fact of him having a British VA I liked sold him for me, no joke. I usually dislike British accents but Ignis had this… certain charm him which just captivated me. I remember watching the cutscenes over and over again, trying to figure out who the fuck was voicing him. Noctis took second spot. His grumpy attitude in the morning after being woken and him being the good-looking protagonist made him settle behind Ignis. And then there was Prompto and Gladiolus. Sunnyboy and beefcake, my least favorites. Prompto received the label of “Every comic relief character to have ever existed” and Gladiolus was called “Manly man ready to break your neck without any emotion”. I know, I was wrong in the end but we didn’t get much. What left the biggest impression on me? The side quests. There was one for every teammate. Prompto had his Catblepus side quest (which they expanded upon in the game), Gladio went on a training/fighting trip with Noctis and Ignis… Oh God… Hold me, Ignis had a stargazing quest. Fuck. So beautiful, so stunning, exactly my taste. Stars, astronomy, an intelligent, good-looking man… Can you imagine how angry I was when the quest wasn’t in the game? Why did they take it out!? It was already done. Prompto’s mini quest was in game as well, even expanded upon. The main quest was good as well. The whole set up of Deadeye roaming the area and demolishing trees and animals was sick. Why wasn’t it in the game anymore? The same as the side quests. It was already done, why didn’t they include it? Did they have to adapt the graphics or other game mechanics? Such a pity.
Final Fantasy XV Platinum Demo:
Noctis’s dream world was stunning. It really felt like I was turned into the child and found myself exploring every small inch of the world. It gave us a peek into the journey ahead, with Leviathan and Titan peeking in and out, day and night changing up and us turning into monster we would end up facing. I doubt there was anyone hating or disliking Carbuncle. Our companion lead us through the short story and tried to protect us. When Regis was placing a small Carbuncle on Noctis’s nightstand, we saw Regis cared and loved his son. A short, yet sweet and warm bonding moment Regis exchanged with the sleeping Noctis. Altissia though, oh boy. With Gratia Mundi playing in the background (which is one of my favorite soundtracks of FFXV) I got completely lost in the city. (Even now I easily get lost in Altissia, jfc. Does anyone even know the map by heart????) The transition to the Iron Giant boss fight was cool. Because we learned how to fight as younger Noctis, we felt mature when the weapons and magic switched over to the real deal and we felt strengthened when we were warping around and taking the Giant down. Sadly, it was extremely short. They had already adapted the battle system so I had less trouble playing through it when I started the demo last week. Magic had a playful feeling to it. Firecrackers, raindrops… It was a different take on magic from a child’s eyes.
Final Fantasy XV A King’s Tale:
This part will be even shorter. I didn’t play A King’s Tale but watched other people enjoy it quite a lot. While many find the 2D pixel look appealing, I’ve never been one to grow fond of older graphics. I’m a visual whore when it comes to games. I want it to look good, I want to see clearly. So visually, A King’s Tale doesn’t appeal to me. I’ve only played a few games, but from what I have played, I prefer better visual quality. Nevertheless I found the story absolutely adorable. It gave us a view into Regis’s human side which deeply cares for Noctis. It’s a struggle every parent has to face: The child doesn’t want to sleep so you have to “bribe” your child. Regis does this through telling a bedtime story. Lovely, adorable, heartwarming and yet, the battles are fast-paced and flashy just like the game. As far as I know this game is free so if you want such a feeling in your chest, go and play it!
Final Fantasy XV Brotherhood:
Before I do anything, I’ll express my anger. Why? Because Brotherhood has so much background information about the characters. Information we need to feel and connect to the characters. Why was Noctis in a wheelchair? Why was he in Tenebrae? How did he and Prompto meet? Solely by the game, you don’t get the entire image. Instead you have to rely on additional sources. Thankfully Brotherhood is for free. Maybe you can already guess a trend developing here: Splitting the story up wasn’t a good idea. Kingsglaive, as much as I love the movie, wasn’t a good idea. When you buy the game, you want the entire content to be in there. I paid 90€ for the Deluxe Edition of the game but there was still more information out there. It makes me angry, okay? The dependence on further source isn’t good. The game should be fine standing on its own but considering how bad the story-telling was, it wasn’t doing fine. In fact, it was already on the ground after being kicked in the balls. Nevertheless, you should watch Brotherhood before you play the game. Or do it for the lulz, I don’t know. It’s lovely. There’s an episode on each of the boyband and a little bit more information and battles. To be honest, I loved it. It was just enough to know how Noctis met his companions. Watch it for yourself.
Final Fantasy XV Kingsglaive:
Ah, my bread and butter. The amount of posts I made on Kingsglaive are almost overwhelming. Maybe you can guess: I really enjoyed the movie. Don’t get me wrong; It still had some major flaws (which I had already mentioned). The whole set up of splitting the story up, demanding money for the movie (unless you buy the more expensive version of the game) and putting important information in it was... wrong. It wasn’t good. In the time of DLCs being pumped out almost all the time, we gamers become pissed off very fast. No one likes DLCs because it means important parts of the game are missing (because that’s how DLCs are used when it comes to FFXV). Same goes for Kingsglaive. It’s like an expanded DLC dealing with the story before we jump into Noctis’s shoes. But that isn’t all. We’re introduced to a pile of members of the Kingsglaive. They’re well-designed, each has certain characteristics going for them so we naturally want to know more about them. Now, the problem is… The movie only takes 120 minutes. 120 minutes trying to deal with politics, the struggles of the Glaives, yet wanting to be entertaining and appealing. 120 minutes aren’t enough. They should’ve done either or. Anyway. I’ll elaborate on the characters a bit further. Nyx: Protag, big heart, our hero. Cocky af when it comes to his duty and dealing with the king’s magic. I avoid doing an analysis post on him because he’s the protagonist of Kingsglaive. It’d blast my head off. Libertus and Drautos took three posts; What would Nyx be like? Seven? Eight? Probably. I’d say he was fine being the protagonist, but I feel like I’ve dealt with too few protagonists to really evaluate what a good protag is. I like him, we can relate to him. On the one hand he’s loyal, on the other hand he’s still evaluating the events around him, trying to decide on the best action to take. Libertus: No, I don’t hate him. (I C U, anon.) Nyx’s childhood friend and best friend, very emotional and therefore, acts on emotions which causes a lot of trouble. He’s the one to give out important information to Niflheim’s spies (that’s what I’ll call them) which help sneaking in explosives at the day of the signing. The first half of the movie had me wanting to punch him because he’s just so dumb in my eyes, but thanks to the analysis posts, I finally noticed how bad he really felt for his mistakes. He knows he fucked up, he tries to make up for it. Immediately. In the end, much more likeable and made me want to squish him. Crowe: She deserved better, indeed. Bigger character potential than Libertus since she was introduced as a witty, strong female character who doesn’t need a man to survive. Sadly, she was killed off screen by Luche, that douche. I watched the movie with my mother and she was devastated after Crowe’s death. My mom is usually indifferent about characters in FF movies. (The action overwhelms her, oops). So when she’s actually showing emotion and disbelief, it’s a good indication the character had potential. I’m not saying it’s proof, just an indicator. Crowe was used as a plot device, which is sad. I also explained why Crowe deserved better in one of my posts. Pelna: Ah, our little sunflower and sunshine. With Luna, the only two people I genuinely cared for and felt sad when they died. His death was especially cruel since we saw the impact of Ultros grabbing him. His body just went… lifeless, crushed. Yikes. Pelna was interesting. While working on his analysis, I noticed he emotionally moved me because I unconsciously related to him. He cracks a joke every now and then, still works extremely hard and his friends are absolutely important to him. It was shown through his actions and words which usually only implied his feelings. I love him, okay!? Luche: I’ll try and avoid being biased. He got the most focus out of all of the traitor Glaives. He was part of the protagonist group, yet felt villainous from the very start. Always criticizing, always a party pooper, in the end murdering Crowe and not even caring for what he did. Instead, he even severely injures Nyx and continues following Niflheim’s empty promises. Most of his character was revealed during his last speech after he shot Nyx. His words were overflowing with anger and bitterness towards the king. He was meant to die. Looking back at his death, his was ridiculous because at the moment he needed his intelligence the most, it left him and he gave in to the promise of power. Oopsie daisy. Tredd: His monologue was sick af. I loved the metaphor of the rats in the sewers. In the beginning, I expected him to be comic relief similar to Prompto, but oh boy, I was wrong. He was the second most focused traitor of the Glaives so I felt like he had some weird dynamic going on with Luche. (Maybe I’m wrong.) We didn’t get jack about him though. Most of my analysis was based on assumptions. His analysis post was also the one to have started the series. Drautos: Daddy D, the main antagonist of the movie. He had major reasons to betray the king and everything he stands for. There’s a lot left in the dark when it comes to him so we have to settle for headcanons most of the time. What a pity though. But in his last moments, the last minutes of the battle between him and Nyx, we get a good image of why he betrayed Lucis. We still have to interpret a lot but I think there’s a nice overview of Drautos if you asked anyone in the fandom. Regis: We already knew he was a very emotional king and not the cruel ruler enslaving his city. He had to balance Noctis’s fate and politics in his hands which took his life in the end. The interactions with Clarus were lovely as well. It gave us a feeling of their friendship and relationship. Most of Regis’s emotions were shown when it was about Luna. We could feel how important Luna was to him so Regis tried to keep everyone safe. His death was cruel as well. At first Glauca sliced off a finger, then rammed the sword through the king’s body with excessive force. Almost disgusting. Luna: Many people pointed out how different this Luna feels from the in-game Luna. Someone pointed out the Luna in the movie wasn’t meant to be Luna. Instead, the developer team intended to integrate Stella to the plot. I’m sure a lot of changes were brought up in the last stretches until the release so that would explain the major difference of the two Lunas. It wasn’t meant to be Luna from the beginning but they had no other choice but to go for her. What a pity. I enjoyed her character. Sure, she was dependent on Nyx but she still carried a strong will and her duty on her shoulders like a strong character would. (For further discussion, I recommend you check out my posts about her. There’s much more anger concerning how she was treated overall in there.)
We also were introduced to the Old Wall/Old Kings which are bitchy as well considering they don’t care about the city and Lucis at all. (Thankfully Nyx and Regis both manage to convince them so Insomnia is saved. Kind of.)
The most positive aspect of the movie clearly is its appearance. It feels like the characters are real, not animated, but actors with flesh and bones in front of the camera. It’s incredible. This might be the biggest selling point for the movie. While the fighting scenes are a mess, they’re still impressive and beautiful to look at. Magic is stunning. Every spell feels different from each other and depending on its user, it changes even more. For example: The king’s lightning is one, massive bolt dishing out an incredible force of pain while a Glaive’s lightning spreads into many smaller bolts, focusing on rather the AoE than the power. I don’t mind the advertisements. Considering how much money went into the movie, they need to earn money in return. And it makes Insomnia look much more realistic when we see a brand we recognize. Inside of the city, I love how different it feels when we explore the upper and lower areas. The higher levels are all about luxury, jewelry, cars and art. Once we explore the levels where Nyx lives, it becomes a bit more plumb. Restaurants, bars, street vendors and karaoke bars give us the impression of a much more simple, cheaper life.
And I love the ending. It leaves us with a bittersweet taste on the tongue. While it may seem like a won battle, we know it’s useless and we have to get into Noctis’s shoes to reclaim our throne. My mom is absolutely in love with the Prologue theme btw. Recently she was diagnosed with incurable cancer so she’s already searching for songs to be played during her funeral. (Yes, life is disgusting at times.) And what’s on her track list? The Prologue of Kingsglaive. Why? It captures the hopelessness of the war against Niflheim flawlessly. My mom prefers such songs. (And yet, she loves the Chocobo theme just as much but I think I’ll talk about that once we dive into the XV game review.)
Overall, I loved the movie. Absolutely. It makes me think about the characters we’re introduced and maybe come up with my headcanons about them. If the developers aren’t giving us more, we are forced to use our imagination. It’s also proves over and over again how overflowing with potential the entire universe of FFXV is and I’ll gladly try to pick apart any question being tossed into my direction.
In the next part, I’ll be picking apart the game itself. I’m sure this part will be even longer than this post.
If you have any further questions, feel free to ask them. I’ll always explain myself if I can.

Prompto at a Rave
(A bunch of elaborate headcanons turned into a two-part fan fiction.)
Warning: drugs/drug use tw
Summary: Basically just a fluffy promptis fic about Prompto rolling balls at a rave with his good friends. (Buckle up ‘cause part 2 is NSFW.)
Read part 2 here.
“I… I think it’s starting to kick in, “Prompto said, watching as his ungloved fingers glided softly over the hair on his left forearm, bright green lazers darting sporadically across his skin.
Among the colorful strobe lights dashing across the floor were girls dancing in neon fishnets and fuzzy legwarmers. Dotted around the room were groups of people crowded around others flinging glow sticks and bright balls of light. The bass shook the ground as the massive crowd of people jumped in or out of time with the beat. In the center of the floor was a man dressed in a banana suit preforming a rather impressive shuffle. Noctis and Gladiolus were laughing at the antics of the banana man when they overheard Prompto’s comment.
“How’s it feel? “Gladio responded with a smirk, briefly glancing in Noctis’ direction.
Prompto was quiet for a moment as he continued to run his fingers over his arm, swallowing as he did so and parting his lips to exhale. Earlier Prompto had decided he wanted to heighten his experience at the rave they had decided to visit in one the deeper parts of Lestallum. He had heard that molly or MDMA was popular in the scene, and did enough of his own research and consulting with locals to decide he wanted to give it a try. Noctis decided against trying it, wary of what Ignis would say about risking his reputation with hard drug use and Gladio wanted to keep a steady head in case he met any girls worth getting to know better. Ignis had decided to rest back at the hotel, considering showing up later only if he was needed.
“It feels, “he paused as the lights on stage began to pulse in a uniform strobe before shooting around the room like rapid gunfire.
“I want to dance! “Prompto exclaimed.
Before they could fully react Prompto grabbed Noctis’ arm and began pulling him towards the center of the room.
“Come on, Noct. Come dance with me! Please?” Prompto continued to tug on his arm. Noctis smiled uncomfortably as he let his initial reluctance drop, allowing Prompto to take both his hands and pull him into a small space in the middle of a crowd of dancing individuals.
Noctis was incredibly stiff at first, feeling completely out of his element surrounded by so many colorful people with lowered inhibitions and an endless supply of energy. Eventually Prompto managed to get Noctis moving, if only slightly. Mostly since Prompto constantly grasped Noctis’ hands and all but forced him to bounce around with him. The DJ put one of their hands in the air and the crowd seemed to fall in sync, attentively keeping rhythm with the DJ. Prompto raised an arm high up over his head as he turned towards the stage, facing away from Noctis yet still holding one of his hands from behind as he jumped up and down, only mildly avoiding any elbows to the face. Noctis couldn’t help but smile to himself at the excitement of his friend as he stood there behind him, his arm bobbing up and down with Prompto’s hop. The lights shining into Prompto’s livened eyes made them look like glowing pools of electric lavender and the star painted on the side of his cheek with glow-in-the-dark paint by a girl as they entered the building complemented the contagiousness of his boyish energy.
The crowd seemed to press in on them as people slowly gravitated closer to the stage. The space that Prompto and Noctis had been standing in began to shrink until Noctis was pressed up against Prompto’s back with one hand on his shoulder, chuckling at the craziness that was unfolding. Prompto continued to hold Noctis’ hand, only he brought it around his waist to avoid it being crushed between them. The pressure of Noctis’ body being pressed up close against Prompto was extraordinarily comforting to him and caused him to smile brightly as he pulled Noctis’ arm further around his waist, bringing him in even closer. Noctis’ reluctance to continue hopping weighed Prompto down so that he no longer was either, but the crowd that pressed into them caused enough movement for the both of them. Prompto began bobbing his head with the beat.
As the music reached a crescendo lights flashed in disorienting strokes and the energy of the room ascended. The bass dropped and the crowd began to bounce overwhelmingly around them, crushing them on all sides. They had to keep their necks ducked low to avoid being hit with elbows and glow-stick-holding fists. The strobing lights fell in sync with both the pounding music and Noctis’ breath on the back of Prompto’s neck, which began to hold all of his attention.
He stared into the patterns the lazers mapped out as they traced paths across the ceiling forming a multitude of different pixelated shapes. He shuddered as someone stumbled into Noctis’ back, forcing a sharp exhale to whisk Prompto’s hair past his ear. He felt the bass keeping time with the pulse in his own body and he felt glittering goosebumps spider down to his toes as Noctis squeezed his shoulder twice and yelled into his ear to be heard over the music. His lips grazed against Prompto’s ear with each syllable causing chills to continue cascading down his frame before fizzling out like sputtering streams of fireworks. Prompto’s only response was to squeeze tighter onto Noctis’ hand that he still held stiffly against his waist. Noctis yelled louder when Prompto just stood there staring blankly into the lights above the stage, one finger hanging off his bottom lip.
Upon seeing Prompto in that mystified state Noctis decided to turn him around by his waist and shoulder so he could start to attempt leading the way out of the crowd. There really wasn’t any way other than forcibly shoving bodies directly out of their path. There were a few times Noctis feared he would lose Prompto and had to use both hands as a wall of people began to close in between them, just barely pulling Prompto through by one arm in time for it to shut them out. When Noctis finally pushed both of their ways through he took his time to gravitate towards the same wall as before, holding Prompto’s hand the whole way as his friend continued to follow, eyes still stuck on the lazers dancing sporadically across every surface. Noctis’ shirt stuck tight to his torso and Prompto’s hair began to droop into the glowing star on his cheek, as the boys were drenched in both their sweat and that of others.
“You good?” Noctis asked after stopping and leaning in closer to Prompto.
Prompto’s eyes darted to Noctis and Noct noticed how much his friend’s eyes had dilated. Prompto had been chewing on his lip when Noctis spoke. His face lit up as he said, “Yeah, that was sooo much fun! This is crazy,” he said, sounding a little out of breath.
Prompto nimbly lifted one of the straps on the front of Noctis’ pants, causing Noctis to unexpectedly flinch his lower body backwards. Prompto rubbed the fabric between his fingers with a look of animated wonderment. Heat lightly gathered towards the center of Noctis’ confused face as he stared down at his pants and back up at Prompto.
“Everything feels amazing, “Prompto exclaimed as he continued to play with the strap of fabric.
Suddenly, before Noctis could think of a response, Prompto clamped onto one of his arms with all of his weight, nearly forcing them both face-first into the ground. Prompto had spotted Gladio from afar and he was compelled to act out his excitement by waving and announcing eagerly that he saw Gladio and wanted to go say ‘hi’.
When they approached Gladio he had his shirt tied around his belt. The beams of light generated a glistening sheen to the scars on his chest. He was talking to a girl with a hula hoop in a bright neon pink tutu and glow-in-the-dark lipstick. Prompto rushed up to Gladio and patted him on the back.
“Hey Gladio, how’s it going big guy? Wait a minute… Holy crap dude, your hair, “Prompto held a lock of Gladio’s hair between two fingers as he leaned into him.
“My, hair?” Gladio responded gruffly.
“It’s so, “Prompto paused as he continued to paw at Gladio’s hair, causing him to stiffen awkwardly as he stared down at Prompto with a raised eyebrow, “It’s so soft! You’re like a kitten!”
“He’s joking, right?” Gladio retorted, looking over at Noct bewildered. Unsure if he should give Prompto a piece of his mind or continue to let him act ridiculous.
The girl giggled, lightly grabbing Prompto’s shoulder to turn him towards her. She smiled and wrapped her finger in the lock of Prompto’s blonde hair that hung over his eye, twirling it around. She recognized Prompto’s dazed state and watched as he rested his eyes shut and almost seemed to purr as he pushed his head forward while her fingers began to play lightly with his hair and massage into his scalp. His eyes opened slowly, as if awakening from a dream, as she stepped back and began to swing her hula hoop back and forth.
The hoop itself had blinking lights that created a solid beam of neon as it swung around in circles that overlapped and spiraled up and over the girl’s head. Prompto stood motionless, almost as if he were in a trance. He remained lost in the rainbow of neon arches for what could have been hours in his own mind. The spiraling circles snaked about from left to right, leaving tracers of light trailing behind in a dizzying effect. For the longest time all that seemed to exist were those whirling bands and trippy spirals. A strange feeling of lightheaded uneasiness washed over him, building like the tide crashing further in to the beach. He felt somewhat disconnected from his body as he tried to step back and look at his situation logically, his overstimulated brain failing him, too lost in the colors to move. The girl haulted the hoop after slowing it down to a pendulum and seemed to only mouth, “are you okay?” despite her yelling loudly over the noise. Noctis stepped away from his conversation with Gladio to rest a hand on Prompto’s back.
“Hey, you still alright?” Noctis asked. He could see the concerned detachment in Prompto’s eyes. The look seemed to fade away gently upon seeing his friend’s face and Noctis suggested they go outside for a bit. Prompto clinged onto one of Noct’s arms, not really wanting to let go for fear of what would happen if that feeling started to come over him again.
“Hey Gladio, we’re gonna step outside for some air, wanna come?” Noctis said, pulling Prompto along with him.
Gladio seemed torn to leave the girl with the glowing hula hoop, but decided he could find her again easily enough. The increasing heat settled in the room like a sticky fog, and Gladio had been all but desperate for some relief.
The breeze that rushed over them as they stepped out of the door was icy, feeling practically orgasmic on Prompto’s skin in his sensation-heightened state. He took in a deep breath of crisp, rejuvenating air and released an audibly shaky sigh. Gladio and Noctis both glanced back at him a bit strangely before continuing on and leading him to a less crowded section near the brick wall of the building. They were in a small fenced in area where people stood around or sat in huddles, talking and smoking cigarettes. Prompto slid down to the ground with his back up against a wall and brought his knees up to his chin, patting the spot next to him slowly as he stared up at Noct smiling. Noctis stifled a chuckle as he crouched down by his friend whose pupils were as big as saucers.
They had started to make conversation but Prompto was unable to stay registered for very long; he got distracted every time the wind blew a strand of Noctis’ hair. He reached out to touch a feathery strand on the back of the boy’s head and leaned in as he brushed the back of his hand over the styled ends. He spiked out the locks of black hair by running them between his fingers, too engrossed in the euphoric softness to mind the dampness of sweat. His interest growing, Prompto braced his other hand on Noctis’ arm, weighing him down and forcing him from a crouched position into one that involved plopping down beside Prompto. He tolerantly sat there hunched over with his elbows resting on his knees as he continued talking with Gladio.
After some time had passed Gladio decided to head back in to the girl with the glowing hula hoop, but not before having his fun teasing Prompto for acting so damn high. Most of what he said went over Prompto’s head though, to his disappointment. Before going back in Prompto had to be sure to give Gladio the biggest, most sincere hug he could muster, forcing Gladio to roll his eyes and shake his head in hopeless amusement.
When Gladio left it didn’t take long for Prompto’s hands to gravitate back to Noct’s hair. They began talking and soon Prompto was dishing out heartfelt compliments and placing his hands on Noct’s face to look into his eyes and tell him how wonderful of a person he is, making Noctis blush and try to laugh it off facetiously. Then he began cooing about how incredible both Gladio and Ignis were, causing Prompto to realize urgently that he wanted to see Ignis so bad and tell him how great of a friend he is right now. He started to take his phone out of his pocket to call Ignis when Noctis stopped him, telling him that Ignis probably wouldn’t appreciate that at this hour. The disappointment on Prompto’s face was brutal. Noctis pitied him, recognizing that he isn’t quite able to wrap his head around the level that Prompto was on right now.
“You can tell him in the morning, “Noctis said, slowly reaching an arm around the side of Prompto’s head.
Noctis gingerly brought Prompto’s head to a resting position on his shoulder. His fingers played softly with small strands of blonde hair that had been chilled by the icy breeze. Prompto forgot all about Ignis. An electric tingling sensation rained down over Prompto’s scalp and spine with every twirl and gentle tug of his hair. The touch was subtle and innocent, but in Prompto’s condition it felt heavenly and in a considerable way, a bit erotic. His heart began to pick up pace. He couldn’t help but close his eyes and sigh blissfully, unknowingly pressing in closer to Noctis and putting a hand on his knee which slid down into his lap. The thud from Prompto’s arm dropping caused Noct to tense up with an audible grunt.
Prompto nuzzled into Noctis further to the point where they were all but cuddling (okay, Prompto was definitely trying to cuddle). Suddenly Prompto stretched his neck out and buried his face into the crook of Noctis’ neck, his nose delicately rubbing the sensitive skin there. Prompto opened his eyes and a faint flush began to drown out the freckles on his face. Over the contours of Noctis’ jawline feathery black eyelashes rested in a forward gaze. They dusted the top of his cheeks as Noctis glanced down at his friend to see what was up. The overwhelmingly pleasant stimulation of his hair being played with mixed with seeing the conventional beauty of his closest friend filled Prompto with elation and a powerful urge to just be close, closer. He felt incredibly connected to Noctis in this moment, feeling as if they were sharing a million things at once as they sat wrapped up in each other silently. The urge rushed over Prompto like a collective whirlwind, leaving him without a second thought before he was just swept away. He placed a small kiss on the far corner of Noctis’ mouth, not pulling away completely afterwards. Noctis startled and backed away a bit to face Prompto, his cheeks instantly shifting from pink to a profoundly deep shade of red.
“Did you just, kiss, me?” he said, blinking in shocked uncertainty.

Being a geek has its payoffs. For example, I’ve had to become a pretty dedicated person to hang onto my geek cred—scoring 100% completion runs, exploring every installment in my favorite series, and making four-hour roundtrips to Florida’s biggest anime Con, Metrocon, each year.
Since its inception, this Floridian Con giant has certainly spread its wings into other wares—including superheroes and the indie gaming scene. Unlike Megacon, however, which has always been a jack-of-all-trades in geekery, Metrocon’s Dragon Ball-shaped heart is firmly fixed on all things otaku—meaning that you’re never quite out-of-sight of a Karasuno jersey or Tokyo-dwelling ghoul.
This year marked my third time at Metrocon, alongside the event’s 15th anniversary. And despite a few significant bumps along the way, I had a “plus ultra” time.

With Metrocon crammed into one of my busiest weeks in August, I wasn’t sure I’d be able to make the drive this year and knew I’d only be able to attend on Sunday. But I was absolutely determined to go to the ends of Eos to obtain an autograph from Ray Chase and Robbie Daymond, voices of two of the lead characters in Final Fantasy XV (the number of hours I’ve clocked into that game is almost as uncomfortable as the length of time I waited for its release). Sweetening the deal were appearances by Steve Blum (voice of my favorite, phoneless, vampire-gunner-monster hybrid), Paul St. Peter, and Mary Elizabeth McGlynn.
The ride couldn’t have been smoother (with the total lack of traffic near the heart of Tampa nearly leading me into the uncanny valley). The parking fee: fair and affordable at a mere $10.
I woke up extra early and arrived about an hour before the autograph session with Chase, Daymond, and St. Peter—which, from past Con experience, has always been more than enough time. Unfortunately, the press pass reserved under my name had been given to someone else on accident, meaning I got held up in the ticketing line a bit too long, missing the only scheduled slot to meet with the voices of the FFXV bros. The autograph line had apparently been cut off about an hour early. On a Sunday.
It was disheartening, given all that I’d done to prepare for the moment. I spent my first few hours at Metrocon standing in the next autograph line as early as possible in order to ensure a meeting with Blum and McGlynn. The line cut off after being open a mere 15 minutes, about two hours prior to the scheduled meet-and-greet period. Because I had not been given a “free autograph” card when I checked in, I nearly missed obtaining autographs altogether—if not for a kindly attendee standing in front of me who offered me hers.
That’s not to dismiss Metrocon as a whole. Events this size require almost inhuman amounts of synchronization, and people were likely growing tired and short on supplies by the final day. Special guests had flights to catch, and that unfortunately meant not everyone would be able to meet them within an allotted time. Even so, I’d like to see reconsideration given to the autograph lines, perhaps allowing simple walk-ups like Megacon or spreading the guests’ appearances throughout the day rather than concentrating them into a single timeslot (as was the case on Sunday).
To their credit, the staff were very sympathetic of my plight. I was given a free pass for the day, handed more “free autograph” cards than I could ever use, and graciously allowed the chance to meet Ray Chase before he left. Many of my friends had an unabashedly smashing time at the event this year, so I can only call my experience an outlier. Even so, it was mine.
Rather than be pessimistic about these mishaps, I chose to enjoy the rest of Metrocon’s offerings—and, boy, am I glad I did. Being in line for three hours meant that I missed the Anime Chess Match and most of the panels that evening, but the vendor’s hall—which, might I add, was monstrous this year—completely turned the rocky start upside down.
I can’t remember the last time I purchased so much in so little time at a Con. I could hardly pass an artist or vendor without holding out a fistful of dollars in my best Futurama meme impression.
Many of Metrocon’s merchandise vendors were manned by familiar faces, focusing on clothing, figurines, keychains, and wall scrolls, primarily. The scarcity of imported snacks and savories from Japan seemed a bit out-of-place with Metrocon’s focus, but whatever diversity or unpredictability the merchandise lacked was more than made up for with the total joyride that was Artist’s Alley.
Simply put: there were a lot of prints and other homemade wares that grabbed my interest—and when I say “grabbed,” I mean like a shinigami grabs a stray apple. Fan-made acrylic keychains and standees—novelties I’ve seen little of elsewhere—were such a common sight that they almost seemed collaborated (I snatched a chibi Kotomine Kirei before the day was done). There were hologramic prints that transitioned between archenemy’s faces, pixelized bead statues, and some incredible close-out deals. (Vash the Stampede print by SamDelaTorre for a single double-dollar? You bet your doughnuts!)
My Hero Academia was a “super” common sight, both among the cosplayers that day and the art prints for sale. I purchased one print of All Might in particular (drawn by the gifted MuddyMelly) that I hope to bestow with Christopher Sebat’s signature someday. Overwatch and Final Fantasy XV unsurprisingly held significant representation in-between all the quirky superheroes.
And that’s saying nothing of the live-action medieval duels, the wristband-checking Master Roshi, and the literal hordes of cosplayers—who, despite it being Sunday, came out in such force and with such fantastic style that I couldn’t help but feel pride as an otaku.
My spirits lifted with each new booth I explored and costume I photographed, until, by day’s end, I left with a trunk full of loot and a Sora-like smile plastered to my face—not least of which can be credited to a Gladio cosplayer wielding a sword made of cup noodles. (You, sir, are the hero Eos deserves.)
Metrocon is a for fans, by fans, four-day anime convention featuring celebrity guests, exhibitors, and the most unique and exciting convention entertainment in the multiverse, located annually at the Tampa Convention Center.
