Thirty-seven years ago today, on September 28, 1987, Strangeways, Here We Come, the fourth and final studio album by the Smiths, was released. Issued several months after the group had disbanded, the album spent 17 weeks on the UK chart, peaking at number two, as well as charting in several other European countries. Widely voted one of the best albums of the year, the album is often listed among the best albums of the 80s and one of the band’s most varied long players.

Weird & Wonderful Wednesday

This was totally… well, let me say that it starts with Jared, a ghost, at the end of the world. And, so, he’s telling the story of Richard, who gets Karen pregnant when they’re both high school seniors, and hours after that Karen falls into a coma. And then nine months after that Megan is born. It only gets, I’ll go with more interesting, after that too. It’s about Richard and Karen’s friends as what they do while she’s in a coma, and then the fast track towards dystopia and the end of the world when she wakes up from the coma.

Not surprisingly, while the plot was fun, the characters were what pulled me in and kept me turning the pages in the book. They were so so unique and I think I could have read multiple books about each of them too. Great read.
