Another 'idk what this is' post lmao. But my attempt at girl!Dan
Daniel entered the event, ducking her head a little to let her curls— that were more defined and perfect looking— cover her face a little. She was a little uncomfortable, but Blake and the stylist from their new main sponsor said she looked good.
This wasn’t the sort of outfit she normally went for, the flared pants were different to her usual (ripped) skinny jeans, but they cupped her ass and thighs in a very flattering way. The top was definitely nothing she had in her closet, it was slinky and metallic and exposed her entire back— which was a work of art thanks to her years of work and effort.
Christian, the man of the hour, was the first to see her and his eyes widened in surprise was enough to tell her that this deviation from her usual outfits was ‘radical’ indeed.
“Daniel. Wow.” Daniel smiled in embarrassment. She didn't surprise Christian often, in fact she last time she surprised him was in 2014 when she beat Seb. And maybe in 2018 when she signed for Renault. But that was different.
“Happy Birthday Boss!” Daniel grinned, clinging to Geri when she came over to hug her as well. Geri’s hand on her bare back felt odd but not as weird as she anticipated.
“Is this Hugo?” Geri asked, figuring the tiny eyelets that made up her top. Daniel nodded, she was head to toe in the former Alpha Tauri’s new sponsor. All her jewelry to her shoes. Even her underwear– including the nipple pasties.
“Yeah, Kelly the stylist came prepared.” Daniel joked. She knew Yuki was wandering around somewhere, he'd been marginally easier to dress and Daniel had many moments tonight where she wished she hadn't grown out her hair.
“Have you seen Max?” Christian asked, his voice was odd, maybe.
“No, I just walked in actually. Haven't even had a drink yet.”
“Of course, of course.” Christian nodded before encouraging her to chat with the executives around, all the important people invited to Christian’s 50th in Vegas. The race was in a few days, Daniel hoped she could stay the minimum amount of time and go.
She'd spent a little time talking to some new Alpha Tauri– Hugo Boss executives before she wandered to the bar. She leaned forward on her elbows, swiping her loose curls over one shoulder.
“hi, can I get you a drink?” A familiar voice sounded from her right and Daniel tucked her head on her palm and smiled over at her friend and former teammate.
“It's an open bar mate. Does that actually work on women?” She grinned at Max who took a moment to piece her voice with the person he was looking at. If she thought Christian’s surprise was impressive, Max's was almost a religious experience.
“Daniel? Wow– I didn't recognize you.” Max gushed, eyes wide. He was blushing, and Daniel fought hers to continue to tease him.
“So about this open bar, I'd love a tequila.” Daniel grinned at him, she could feel the gloss on her lips when she smiled widely. She hoped her eyes weren't completely hidden by her new lashes.
Max looked... Well she'd never seen him look [at her] like this before. He kept looking her up and down; like he was seeing her for the first time, like he didn't recognize her.
A bartender came over at Max's wave as if they knew that he specifically wasn't to be left waiting. Daniel wondered if her own picture was taped up at the back of the bar but they didn't recognize her with her new look. It didn't matter because Max ordered exactly what she wanted, down to the brand of tequila she preferred and how she liked her glass prepared. She didn't realize he paid this close attention.
Max handed her the drink, his fingers lingering on hers for a beat longer than normal. Daniel smiled at him in thanks, determined not to think too deep into it. It was Max– nothing was happening.
Max smiled his crinkley eyed smile at her as if she'd said something funny– she hadn't. Then led her away from the bar with a hand to the small of her back.
It felt…different than when Geri did it. Geri's fingers mainly did the touching, Max's palm was pressed into her skin, branding her like a tattoo. It's apt because her back was the only place she hadn't yet covered in ink.
Max was talking to her, but she couldn't concentrate on what he was saying. Hyper aware of his skin against hers. It wasn't like it was the first time he's led her around with a proprietary hand, in fact it was pretty normal. But she'd never… she'd never noticed it until now. Not until it was skin against skin. It was harder to hide when there were no clothes to hide behind.
“Daniel, are you paying attention?” Max's voice broke her thoughts and she sipped her drink for something to do.
“Sorry Maxy, got a bit distracted there.” She bit her lip, letting it go quickly at the taste of lipgloss. She truly wasn't used to it. She looked at Max through her new lashes– his gaze was on her lips.
“I, of course, understand.” He murmured, it sounded as if he didn't even realize he was talking. “Daniel I–”
“Ricciardo Daniel, as I live and breathe. Is that you?” George interrupted and Daniel had never before now wished George could disappear so she could hear what Max had been going to say. He had shaken his head as if to clear his thoughts and taken a sip of his gin tonic.
Daniel smiled at George, wildly wondering if she imagined the twitch of Max's hand on her back.
“Russel George! it is I, I am me!” She chuckled and glanced over at Max to see he'd adopted his resting ‘go away’ face. Daniel was starting to feel lightheaded.

Inspired by this godly post which unlocked a part of my brain I didn't know existed, and solidly gave me complete and utterly brainrot until I wrote something
A thousand thanks to Lily for her wonderful help :))
"Does Kelly not mind you spending all your time with me?" Daniel asks, because she's Daniel and once she's thought something she can't keep her fucking mouth shut, even if she knows it's trouble.
Max looks up, pausing his set of weights, and blinks at her. Daniel feels her cheeks warm. One day, that mouth of yours will run you straight into trouble, young lady, her mum used to tell her, voice firm. Good girls know when to keep quiet. Daniel used to just laugh at the warning. Her laugh is loud and the opposite of quiet, but she used to know that everyone always loved her laugh.
"No," Max says after a beat and then continues lifting. Daniel hates the way her gaze tracks over him, lingering on the movement of his muscles, the ease with which he lifts the weight. Tawny hair brushed out of his eyes, cheeks dusted warm from the exertion. "Of course not."
"Why of course not?" Daniel asks. She wants to sew her mouth shut. This time, Max didn't look over as he answers.
"Kelly's very secure, she's not like other girls. And besides, she knows you."
It's strange. When Daniel was seven and Michelle eleven, they'd gone rock pool fishing. Michelle had been crouched over a shallow pool of water, her finger delicately brushing the tentacles of the anemone. Daniel had been scaling the rocks, wanting steeper, taller, more.
She'd found the shark first, nestled high at between the rocks, and for a beat she hadn't known what she was looking at. Just details, but nothing collective. Rotting smell. Shrivelled holes where eyes should be. Scales of silver lightning. Rubbery fish picked clean. The flash of bone, pearl white.
Then she realised what she was staring at, and screamed. Her father held her while her mother scolded her. I told you not to go climbing! It's too dangerous, Daniel. Why can't you just be good like your sister and stay by the shallow pools?
And then, later, ice cream. Her dad, beside her, explaining the horror away.
It's just nature, Dani. The waves wash them up, and they get stuck there. They can't get back to the sea, and then the sun dries them out.
They drown on air, Michelle helpfully pointed out, her feet kicking happily as she licked her 99. Daniel just just nodded, ice cream untouched. Every time she closed her eyes, she saw the sunken holes, the rotting flesh.
She hasn't thought about that moment for years, but suddenly it washes back over her. She feels simultaneously both. The child, staring at the carcass, frozen in shock. The shark, burning up in the sun, chocking on air.
"What does that mean?" She asks, and somehow her voice is normal, is fine. She's fine. She's not a girl or a shark. She's stupid and a fool and a gawky, ugly idiot, but she's fine.
Max manages to shrug, even with the 50kg weights. "You know. Just that Kelly knows you. She knows what you're like. And she knows me too, of course."
Daniel swallows. She nods. She hates everything about herself.
"That's sexist," she forces herself to say lightly because if the silence stretches anymore, Max might notice and set his weights down and look at her, and Daniel can't bear that. She doesn't want his eyes on her, taking in every blemish and imperfection. The boyish, ratty clothes she works out in and her curls gone frizzy with sweat and her inked skin, so different to Max and Kelly's pale, perfect complexions.
"What's sexist?"
"Saying she's not like other girls," Daniel tells him, setting down the weights she been doing. Instead, she goes to grab the skipping rope, just for something to do.
Max laughs. Daniel's glad she's turned away. Her cheeks are burning again.
"It's the truth. You, of course, Daniel, are not like other girls either." He says it lightly and ends with a chuckle, as if it's all just a joke. Daniel drags a sweaty hand over her cheeks. Burning, burning, burning.
Apparently, in Max's mind, she and Kelly are the same; both not like other girls. Kelly, with her faultless makeup and wonderful daughter and classy dresses and perfect feminity. One end of the scale. Daniel, the other. Barely even considered "a girl." Always one of the boys, only woman in f1 for a reason.
"Thanks," Daniel says. She wants to make it sound humorous, like she's in on the joke too. Instead, it's too cold; muttered as if she actually gave two shits about the conversation anyway. She has an F1 season to prepare for, she's too busy to care about stupid shit like this.
There's a beat of silence as Daniel stretches out the rope, feeling the plastic flex and give. Then, Max exhaling, the gentle bump of his weights against the floor, the workout bench shifting as his centre of gravity changes. Daniel keeps her back to him, ignoring it all.
"I did not mean it as insult," Max finally says, stubborn. Daniel forces a laugh, turning to give him a smile, all teeth.
"Of course not Maxy. I get that." Voice light and blithe. One of the boys.
She thinks he'll drop it, but instead, his frown only grows. Pinched brows, thin lips, cheeks growing blotchy. Blue eyes regard her, intense and unyielding. She burns from the inside out.
"I've upset you," he says, in that blunt, genuine way only he can do. Daniel barks out another laugh.
"Don't be stupid. You're not important enough to ever be able to get under my skin." She gives him another smile with only teeth. She feels insane. Her mother tells her good girls stay quiet.
"I'm sorry," he tries again, growing frustrated now, "I did not mean -"
"I told you, you didn't upset me," she drops the skipping rope without actually using it. "Anyway, I'm bored. Wanna get lunch now? Or are you still trying to pump those muscle with more testosterone?"
Max gives her one last, searching look before standing. They're almost the same height. She wants to shrink to nothing.
"That is not how testosterone works, Daniel," he says with the air of an overworked teacher. He looks at her with a smile, uncertain but genuine. She laughs, allowing him to move the conversation on.
She walks out of the gym first but holds the door for him. He grins, relieved. His fingers skim hers as he takes it and she lets go. A chill runs through her. Cold like scales, cold like ice cream untouched.
Follow up here!
#whole lot of internalised misogyny to unpack here#in my head Daniel is looking like Tash Sultana in the music video for “Jungle”#Max just meaning :))) Kelly knows you and she knows me :))) and she knows we are both two good people who would not cheat :)))#while Daniel just going into an existential crisis of#:((( Kelly knows Max and I :((( and I am zero threat to her because I must be utterly undesirable :((( and not Max's type at all :(((#maxiel#girl!Daniel#for the first time ever lol#my fic#ending involves the tension between them growing and growing#and Kelly watches them share a podium and sees the way Max wraps his arm around Daniel's shoulder and hugs her tightly#and the way Daniel laughs so happily and loudly everyone can hear her#and suddenly Kelly realises she had been wrong and Daniel was a threat#and basically gives Max an ultimate to choose one of them and stop all contact with the other#somehow Daniel finds out and just locks herself away from the world during summer break because it's not even a question who max will pick#and their story ends with Max knocking on her door with looking annoyed with a bunch of drooping flowers#and before Daniel can even say anything he's stepping into her apartment and getting a vase from her cupboard#while complaining about how he ordered the flowers that morning but the florist fucked up his order and of course the flourists in the#Netherlands are much better and soon he will take Daniel there and pick proper flowers like tulips for her#she stares at him in pure disbelief and then starts to laugh. and Max looks over and laughs too and they're still smiling when they kiss#:)))))#apologies but I'm a sucker for a soppy cliched ending lol

2142 words. Inspired by this post and I put my own twist (and insecurities) into the mix. Girl!Daniel who was so in love with Max having a late quarter life crisis because of Kelly's instagram posts and stories during their summer break. Thanks to toastandvegemite and their brilliant mind. CW :: WAG (Kelly), girl!Daniel is a little bit depressed in this story
This is just a fiction, yes, not real. English is my 3rd language so please be gentel.
Daniel had never imagined that she would be standing at the food aisle, 7 pm on Tuesday, tears welling up in her eyes while looking for a specific brand of cooking chocolate. She had been listening to Lana del ray all day, now all she wanted was making the most chocolaty chocolate brownie that ever made for her pity party.
'Did you know a singer can still be looking like a sidepiece at thirty-three?' Every time she heard that part of the lyrics from 'A&W'  her brittle heart crumble. Since when can song lyrics be so painful? Since when did she relate so much to a song.
Being a "sidepiece" might still be better than whatever kind of hell Daniel was in. Because Daniel was even more pathetic than "the other woman" or "the sidepiece". "The other woman" could at least have the person she loves, even if only for a moment. But Daniel could only admire the person she loved from a distance. Even that person didn't know if she had feelings for him.
The man she loved was spending his summer break on the Mediterranean Sea with his girlfriend. He was dancing with his beautiful and perfect girlfriend at a beautiful resort with amazing view. Remembering this put a heavy feeling in Daniel's chest. She wanted to lie down on the floor and cry her heart out. A little bit dramatic, she knew.
Daniel should unfollow Max and Kelly's instagram accounts. Seeing their insta story updates only makes things worse for Daniel. But that would bring up questions in people's minds. Maybe muting them would be enough.
Daniel took out her cell phone and opened Instagram when someone stood beside her and tapped Daniel on the shoulder. If Daniel didn't have good driver reflexes she would have dropped her phone.
"Jeepers! Max, what are you doing here? I thought you were still on vacation." Daniel removed the earphone she was wearing from her left ear.
Max just laughed.
Daniel looked into Max's shopping cart. He brought two big packs of cat litter.
"I came back to Monaco this afternoon. I'm out of litter so I have to buy some. What are you looking for?" Max looked at Daniel's shopping basket. Daniel has put in the eggs, flour and butter she needs for her brownies.
"Cooking chocolate and cocoa powder." Daniel took the closest chocolate and cocoa powder from her.
"What are you going to make?"
"Brownies."
Daniel looked at Max. Max was wearing a hat but Daniel knew that under the hat Max's normally brown hair had now turned blonde due to the Mediterranean summer sun. Max's facial skin also had a golden glow with a little hint of red on his cheeks. Seeing Max felt like looking directly at the sun, but it wasn't daniel's eyes that ached, it was her heart.
"I should go home now. Bye!"
Max held Daniel by the shoulders.
"Daniel, are you okay? You look tired?"
"Gee, thanks, Max." Daniel replied sarcastically.
Of course Max looked at daniel like she was not okay. Daniel was only wearing a hoodie and pajama bottoms, her hair in messy bun. Daniel usually still wears nice clothes and light makeup when she leaves her house, but she didn't have the energy or will to do any of that.
"I'm having a lot on my mind." Daniel wanted to hide from Max's eyes.
That blue eyes looked curious.
"I thought you were going to Perth for summer break."
Max took Daniel's shopping basket and put it in his cart.
"Let me come with you. I don't want you to be alone now. You don't look well."
Daniel did not protest. Who was she to say no to Max after not seeing him for almost a month. She followed Max to the self checkout. She stood behind max and studied the man's broad back.
"Do you need anything else?" Ask Max before they get to self checkout.
Daniel just shook her head. For a while she let herself listen to Lana while looking at Max. Max turned his back on Daniel, he wouldn't be able to see Daniel's pathetic face.
........
Arriving home, Daniel connected her cell phone to the sound system in her kitchen. She put the coffee mug and plate she used earlier into the sink. She also wiped down her kitchen island. Daniel was a little relieved she had cleaned out her apartment last night, at least Max wouldn't have seen her house in such a mess.
Max put her groceries on the kitchen island which had been wiped clean. Max had taken off the jacket and hat he was wearing. Now he sat on the barstool and watched Daniel without saying anything. Only lana's voice was heard between them.
Daniel took off the hoodie she was wearing and also her sweatpants and just left them bunch up on her bed. Now she was only wearing her merch t-shirt and cotton shorts. She didn't care. Max knew her for very long time, of course Max has seen Daniel in a worse condition than now.
Daniel opened her fridge and took out a can of redbull, she also took out the brownie recipe which she attached to the fridge using a piece of decorative magnet. She passed the redbull can to max who opened it immediately.
"I didn't know you could bake." Max said as he took a sip of his redbull.
Daniel took out the cake ingredients they had bought on the kitchen counter. He also took sliced almonds, chocochips and chocolate paste from the refrigerator.
"After becoming a test driver I had a lot of free time, Max. So I tried new things."
Max unknowingly touched on a sensitive topic for Daniel. One of the things that made it difficult for Daniel to fall asleep at night.
Becoming a Redbull development driver was not an easy thing for Daniel. Of course Redbull is a big team to be reckoned with, being part of Redbull is also an achievement but she had a dream to be able to compete in the grand prix. Became the first female driver since 1978. That dream was completely fading.
Daniel even had to fight with her teeth and nails to cling to that empty dream. Maybe she should had let go of her ridiculous dreams after turning 30. Moved on with dignity, return to Australia and settle down for good.
Before she could cry in front of Max, Daniel turned around and took the scales from one of the drawers. Daniel weighed all the ingredients she needed. Flour. Cocoa powder. Sugar. Butter. She chopped the cooking chocolate before weighing it.
"Aren't you happy, Daniel?"
"Do I look unhappy?" ask Daniel.
"Yes." Max answered quickly and honestly. "It was like you were about to cry."
"Like I said before, I've got a lot on my mind."
"What's wrong? Are you sick? How is your family?"
"Is it because of the money? Do you have financial problems so you can't go back to Australia during the break?" Max asked so quickly. Letting out of question after question is like releasing arrows.
Daniel took a large glass bowl and put the ingredients in for the batter. She wanted to whipped the batter manually. She wanted to feel her arm muscles got tired. She wanted to feel a little bit of muscle pain so that the pain in her heart would lessen.
Daniel beat the eggs and sugar using a medium sized whisk. After that he put the sifted flour and cocoa powder into the mix.
"Say something, Daniel. You can tell me anything. If you want to, of course."
Max looked at Daniel with his blue eyes. Blue maldives eyes.
Max was everything daniel wasn't. Male, young, successful.
"I'm fine, my family too. I have money, Redbull pays me well."
"So, what's going on?"
"I'm going through some kind of a crisis maybe. Like a quarter life crisis but in my 30s."
"I will cry if I talk about this."
"Hey, there's nothing wrong with crying. Daniel, it's just me. You can cry if you want."
"Max, I don't know where to start. I have too much on my mind."
"Are you happy in Monaco?"
Daniel thought for a moment. Is she happy here? Does she feel happy coming home to an empty house? Everyone she knew slowly began to leave this place to make a new start, something serious, more precious, something they build brick by brick,  something they would die for.
"I don't think so. I've been feeling isolated lately. I'm far from my family. My friends aren't here anymore. Every day I see only strangers."
Daniel put down her batter, washed her hands and sat beside Max.
"I feel left out. It's not that I want to- I don't know how to explain it."
"Just slowly, take your time."
She took a deep breath, a shaky one.
"I feel stupid for clinging to my dream of becoming a driver while we all know my chances are so small. Now I'm 34 years old, my dream has failed and I have nothing."
Daniel felt how her tears spilled out. So warm on her skin. Salty as they flowed past her speaking lips.
Max stood up and put his arm around her. Warping her in a warm comforting hug.
"So you want to leave the f1? Build a family?"
She nodded. "Leaving f1, yes. Starting a family doesn't seem like it. Too late."
"Of course it's not too late, you're still 34 years old."
"He already has a family." Daniel whispered into Max's chest. Her voice was small.
"Huh?"
"He's already build his own family." Daniel said louder. "He has a beautiful family. He has a beautiful woman, always perfect beside him. How can I compete with his girl, I look like- I'm so boring compared to her. And also a beautiful child." Daniel was crying so hard, letting everything out. Opened the flood gate. Drenching Max's shirt with her tears.
That was a relief. Saying it out loud gave her bruised heart a sense of freedom. Just like how her therapist said 'talking is fixing half of the problem, you can decompress negative emotion by talking'.
"It is not true, Daniel. You are beautiful. You are talented. You are smart."
God, She didn't want it to end. She wanted to buried in Max's arms forever. Enveloped by his perfume and warmth.
"Whoever he is, he'd be so stupid if he missed you."
Daniel let go of her hug. She wiped her face with the sleeve of her shirt. She felt her eyes begin to swell.
"Who's he?"
She was silent.
"Do I know him?"
"I guess."
"Nico?"
"Kevin?"
"Daniil?"
"No, Max. Don't make me say it. Don't make me admit anything, now."
"Daniil?" Max whispered. He was quiet enough as if talking to himself.
"I didn't want him to know. It is so pathetic. I don't want anyone to find it out."
Max just stood there. Eyes focused on his own hand. Deep in his tough, like he was trying to solve this little puzzle.
Daniel needed an escape. "Sorry your shirt got wet. Let me get you a new one. I have an oversized shirt that will fit you." She said in a too happy tone.
Daniel ran to her guest room, where she kept her stash of unsold merch. She should withdraw all of her stock merch when she no longer competing and joined redbull. She took a larger version of the shirt she was wearing. XL, she was hoping it would fit.
It's a little gross not to wash new clothes before wearing them, but bacteria won't survive in that t-shirt. The t-shirt had been stored for more than 1 year, of course no microorganism could survive that long without nutrients.
"Do you have time to wait for me to finish the brownies? Or is Kelly waiting for you and the cat litter?" Daniel gave the shirt to Max.
Max didn't hesitate to change his clothes in front of Daniel. He took off his t-shirt and exposing his slightly golden skin.
Daniel knew that Max always looks handsome when he wears black clothes. But Max wearing daniel's merch which is black? Damn, something churned in Daniel's heart.
"I can stay a little longer. I wonder what your brownies will taste like."
"Daniel, can you change the song. If you keep listening to sad songs like this, your mood will still be sad."
Daniel changed her playlist. She selects a random playlist from her spotify. She returned to mixing the batter and hoped that everything would be better tomorrow.
That day, she booked more appointments with her therapist while eating freshly baked brownies.

The pregnancy test is negative again.
cw: fertility issues/anxieties
The pregnancy test is negative again. Max hides his diaspointment well.
"Maybe it is too early still," he says, running his fingertips gently across the top of Daniel's back as they stare down at the horrible little minus sign. She knows that he means to be soothing, but it takes biting down on her tongue hard, the taste copper to stop her from snapping at him. Get the fuck off me. "Besides, it is okay, anyway. The doctors said it could take time."
Time.
Time, time, fucking time, it's all she's heard about for the last five years.
From Micheal, from Michelle from fucking Zak Brown.
There's still time for a WDC, Daniel.
A few weeks isn't enough time to justify a trip to Monaco with the kids, Daniel.
We are thinking Oscar might be able to match Lando's lap times a little better, Daniel.
"I don't have any fucking time," she chokes out, shrugging away from Max's hand. "I'm not-"
You're not getting any younger Daniel. That time, her mum.
As bad as the pointed way Sophie told her, you know, Max wants a family very much, last Christmas.
She picks up the mocking little plastic stick and throws it angrily into their peddel bin to stop her from snapping it in half. When the soft thud isn't satisfying enough, she kicks it.
"Easy, baby, easy," Max says, startled, as he moves to stand between her and anything else she can try to hurt, to hurt herself with. Not wanting to look at his face, she slams the toilet lid down. Sits down on top of it with her head in her hands.
Breathe, she thinks. Breathe. You're scaring Max. You're scaring yourself. You need to prove you are stronger. You're going to face worse than this if you're a mother. You need to be good enough to deserve this.
No pain, no gain. But then why does this feel like her body protesting the years of misery she put it through trying to win, only to lose anyway and keep losing now.
"I just-" She starts, but she can't even get the rest of the sentence out before she's crying. "Is it too much to ask that this be one thing I don't fucking fail at?"
Max makes a soft shocked noise, but his arms around her are a steady as always as he pulls her into him. The one thing she's never lost, even when she stopped being a winner.

waking up naked next to an ex-teamate isn't the worst thing that's ever happened to daniel, but it is maybe the most awkward.
Katie, I am making this one girls just for you...
Waking up naked next to an ex-teammate isn't the worst thing that's ever happened to Daniel, but it is maybe the most awkward. She looks over at Max who lies sleeping, face mashed into her pillow, a smear of Daniel's lipstick still left on her cheek from the night before.
Perhaps she had a little too much to drink at her Welcome Back party if this is where she ended up.
"Max," she says softly, shaking Max's shoulder gently.
Max's eyes blink slowly open and she looks... well like maybe the cutest thing that Daniel's ever seen. So, maybe a little awkward, not something Daniel is sure she regrets.
"What?" Max asks, when she's finally fully awake. She looks between them. "Oh shit."
Daniel let's out a small laugh. "Uh, yeah, I guess we..." she trails off.
"Do you wanna do it again?" Max asks, bowling right through any awkwardness in her usual bullish style and getting straight to the point.
Daniel thinks about it, how they were teammates once, and with Daniel's new role are sort of teammates again, and how maybe, if Daniel plays her cards right, they could be in the future. It's a bad idea, but Daniel studies Max, the powerful lines of her body, her small, perfect, perky tits with the perfect rosebud pink nipples and thinks 'fuck it,' and kisses Max again.

can't stop thinking about daniel's daughters in all of this. imagine you're kind of estranged from your dad who always put his career before you, and you find out that in the middle of a global pandemic your father with parkinson's flew to dubai for a story. you're like yeah, par for the course, seems like something he'd do. but then he comes back from dubai without parkinson's, a different eye colour, and the weirdest set of acrylics you've ever seen in your life. cut to months later and he's now promoting his best selling novel in which he claims (and adamantly believes) that he flew to dubai to interview vampires, which are real and walk among us. you're now starting to think that somehow he traded his parkinson's for full blown dementia. and he's still wearing those fucking acrylics.

“You promised me you wouldn’t do anything stupid!”
“And I didn’t!”
“Then why are Renault publicly calling for your head?”
or;
Red Bull got what they wanted and Max got his man…sorta. All they have to do is go to the FIA and everyone's happy. Simple.

Wreck Me - Rated Mature
Started as a Tumblr ficlet. Summary:
Honestly, Daniel had many dumb ideas before. Ideas that led to the police being called, ideas that lead to waking up in somewhere unknown to him, sometimes naked.
This might not be the worst idea but emotionally it felt like it. He hadn't seen Max in…he didn't know how long. But it was long enough that walking into the lobby of his brand new high-rise on a whim was at the very least…weird.

Reclamation - Rated Explicit
Wreck Me Sequel! Summary:
reclamation:
The act of reclaiming or the state of being reclaimed. To claim something back; repossess; to correct an error; to reform.
The biggest mistake Max ever made was breaking up with Daniel. 5 years later he makes the second biggest mistake by sending him away again. But… he could fix this.
Daniel was ready to move on. Max didn't want him and thought the absolute worst of him. Cool. It was fine. It was time.

Part 4 of my Girl!Daniel fic |Part 1|Part 2|Part 3|
Summary:: Daniel navigated the backlash she received from Max and Kelly's break up.
Her hotel room was dark, only being lit by the TV. The AC blew freezing air into the room. Daniel laid her aching body on her crisp, cold bed. Her eyes felt heavy from all the driving and reading she did. And maybe also from her lack of sleep the previous night.
She sighed when finally able to stretch her spine. It was glorious and relaxing. Her sweatpants and t-shirt felt so soft and comfortable after hours of wearing her racing suit or her skin-tight jeans.
It had been a long day at the circuit. The testing, the interview, PR stuff, briefing, and debriefing—all of them left her dry. They sucked up her energy, both mentally and physically.
The only good thing about today was that she gave them a good performance. She drove that monster of a car to her limit and did what the team wanted her to do.
Her neglected phone was vibrating inside her backpack. She forced her tired body up to reached for her bag at the foot of the bed. She took her phone. She peeked at her notification bar; there were three messages from Michelle, a text, and two pictures.
‘Is it true?’ the text said.
"Shit." Her heart skipped a beat. With her cold hands, she opened the message. Michelle sent her two screenshots; one was from Kelly’s Instagram post, and the other was a news article—a gossip magazine nonetheless.
Kelly had posted her breakup announcement. The screenshot said it was an amicable breakup and a joint decision by both of them. The announcement was short and too formal to be written by Kelly herself.
Daniel wondered if it was true. Kelly and Max’s relationship had always looked happy, healthy, and far from trouble—a perfect relationship that made her envious. She didn't ask Max how they broke up. What Kelly's reaction was. Her emotion was too overwhelming for her to care about anything else.
She tried to find that post on her own Instagram. She wanted to read the comments. She needed to know if the public had already connected the news to her or not. She couldn’t find Kelly’s account. Kelly had blocked her.
The article reported a fictional feud between the three of them, a piece of made-up news with made-up “insider information”. All because Daniel wore Max's balaclava right before the news of Max and Kelly’s breakup dropped. She learned that It was a fan who noticed the balaclava thing and made a TikTok video that started the whole domino effect.
‘I’ll call you tomorrow,' she texted her sister back. God, she didn't even know if Michelle would hate her or not. What if her sister judged her too for not being a girl's girl? Would her family look at her with disappointment in their eyes?
Daniel slipped her phone, face down, under her spare pillow. She took her sleeping hoodie and put it on.
She grasped at the blanket. She shielded herself from the chilly AC air. The night was still young, but she tried to fall asleep with the TV as a white noise. Her mind and body were too exhausted to stay awake after all.
When she closed her eyes, the memories from years ago came to her. The camera flashes, the intrusive questions—they wouldn't leave her alone. During those dark months, she had to look over her shoulders everywhere she went for months.
Daniel knew a storm was brewing for her. She could feel it. She already knew what they would sound like. The sharp words of the scrutiny and judgment they would say about her.
That article was just a start. The journalists would dig in deeper and connect more dots. They would overanalyze Daniel and Max's interactions throughout the years and present them as evidence. A cheater and a homewrecker, they would say. They would do it for easy clicks and money.
Her phone let out a short ring, telling her she had received a text. She let it ring a couple more times. She didn't care. Whoever it was, they could wait until tomorrow.
Someone knocked on her door, fast and firm. She sighed and put her spare pillow on top of her head. She tried to muffle the sound, stopping it from reaching her ears. Daniel didn't know what else they wanted from her. She had given them everything she had earlier that day.
Her phone was ringing again, loud and long this time. She picked her phone up and swiped at the green icon, too annoyed to read the caller ID. "Hello?"
'I'm in front of your room.' It was Max. 'Open your door. I know you are inside.'
"Wait." With a huff, she rose from her bed and walked barefoot to her door. Daniel cringed every time her feet touched the cold marble floor. She opened her door and let Max in.
He was still in his uniform and carrying his backpack. He handed Daniel a warm stainless steel vacuum tumbler with a giant Red Bull logo. "Your tea before bed." He took off his shoes and sat on Daniel's bed.
"Who are they?" He pointed his finger at the TV. It was a MMA match.
Daniel knew Max wasn't really asking about the match. He didn't care about them. He just wanted to start a conversation.
"I don't know," Daniel said, sipping her warm peppermint tea despite already brushing her teeth and wearing her retainer. The tea was delightful, not too sweet, not bland, just how she liked it.
She put the tumbler on her bedside table and lay on the left side of the bed. She folded her pillow into two. She wanted it to be tall enough to support her head so she could still see the TV. "Don't sit there. You're blocking my view."
Max sat there, looking at her, while she only saw his silhouette. He crawled up and lay down beside her. "You seem stiff."
She tried to watch the match even when Max was studying her. His gaze—she could feel it. "I just found out about the announcement."
"Do you want to talk about it?"
"Nah, Max. Too tired."
"Move closer," she said, “hug me.”
He moved closer. Daniel could feel his warmth. She buried her face into his clothed chest. His smell always comforts her. It was a mix of his natural smell and his perfume—the old one because she couldn’t smell the sweetness of his new one.
He took her hand and squeezed it into his much warmer one. "You are freezing." He let go and drew her blanket up her body.
Daniel hugged him and laid Max's head on her chest, caressing his soft hair.
"Your heart is beating so fast," he said.
"I am thinking about what will happen next."
She reopened the article and gave her phone to Max.
His jaw muscles clenched when he read it. Max took a deep breath and tightened his hold on Daniel’s waist. "I'm sorry. I will find a way to take that article down."
"It's okay, not your fault." It was her reflex response as a chronic people pleaser. "Well, maybe it's a little bit your fault." She sighs, "I don't know."
"Am I a homewrecker?" Daniel asked. She laid her hand on the max upper back, right between his tense shoulder blades.
"No, trust me, you are not," he said. "There were a lot of problems between me and her. We want different things."
"What do you want?" The silence between them was so loud.  "Do you still remember what you said yesterday?" She asked again.
"Of course, I remember."
"You said you wanted me to give you a chance. But what will happen if you can't– What if I can't give you what you want?"
"I don't want a lot of things, Daniel. I just want to be with you. That's all I want."
.................................................................
Incessant loud knocking woke her up. Her consciousness returned as she took a deep breath. She opened her unfocused eyes, which were still heavy with sleep. Everything was blurry at first, but with time, she slowly became alert enough to notice her surroundings.
The room was dark from the hotel's thick blackout curtains, which were still drawn close. It was quiet and peaceful, saved from Max's light snoring, traffic noise from the distance, and the constant knocking on her door.
She was lying on her front. It was uncomfortable. Her tender breasts were squeezed by her weight. Her neck was also aching from being forced to turn to the right for hours. She also felt too hot because of the blanket and the other person's body heat.
Max's sleeping body was enveloping her, draping halfway across hers. His heavy arm was around her torso, and his head was nesting on her upper back.
Sighing, she closed her eyes again, hoping to fall back asleep. She wished she could stay like this forever. Lying peacefully with Max, she didn't have to worry about anything else. Just the two of them.
Only in your dream, Daniel, she thought. It would never just be the two of them.
People would always have something to say about them if they became an item. And Daniel would let them get between her and Max. She paid too much attention to what people said about her.
She wished she were more like Max. Unapologetically himself. He went after what he wanted and didn't give to fuck about what people think. But she would never be able to be like that.
And whoever was knocking at her door, she hoped they would get tired and leave them alone. Let her cling to these crumbs longer, at least until Max had to wake up and go to do his job.
She felt Max start to stir, waking up. His arm around her waist held her tighter. Daniel controlled her breathing so that she looked like she was still asleep. Not ready to face anyone, including Max.
Max squeezed her body harder. He nuzzled his face deeper into Daniel's hoodie. After a while, he sat up and yawned.
Daniel could hear Max opening his phone and the quiet clicking sound of his typing. The mattress dipped with Max's movements. And it got closer and closer to her ‘still sleeping' body.
Daniel shivered when she felt Max touch her braided hair. He moved it gently from her neck into her back. And her breath hitched when he leaned in and kissed her head.
"Shhh, go back to sleep. I will get the door," he said in his hoarse voice.
No, don't do that. Daniel begged him to stay in her head. She was not ready for this to end. Just a little longer, please.
Max left the bed and opened the door. It was Brad. Daniel could recognize his voice. "Give me a minute," Max said. He closed the door again and went to her bathroom.
Daniel could hear the sound of the toilet being flushed and her sink's faucet running. Max exited the bathroom with her perfume on his skin. It smelled stronger when he got closer to the bed to take his backpack.
She let him leave without saying goodbye.
.........................................................
Daniel was working on PR videos after the race had ended. The team said they needed more of her videos for upcoming races. She didn't mind; they just wanted her to answer some questions, easy peasy.
Daniel had always been comfortable in front of cameras. She was a natural-born performer, her mother would say. But if only the camera were friendly to her. Unlike the one from the parking lot, who had been relentlessly following her every movement, causing her frustration. She was sure that person was still lingering outside. It was lurking outside to get a scandalous picture of her.
During a brief break between takes, Tamara, one of the PRs, approached her. She was holding a black phone. "Have you seen this?" She gave Daniel the phone.
"What is it?" Daniel asked. She played the video, but the room was too loud.
Tamara took the phone back and put it close to Daniel's ear. "Listen to what she said about you." She played the video again.
Daniel could hear a woman, a former racer, talking about her during a live broadcast. The bustling room became quiet and faded into background noise when she focused on the woman's soft voice.
Her voice was like velvet, but she was spitting poison. She made critical remarks, suggesting that Daniel had a "female brain" and was too old to be racing. She even claimed that Daniel hunted younger, more successful men because of her failed career.
The room was spinning, and her chest was tightening. Daniel could feel the telltale sign of tears forming in her eyes.
"Why would she say that?" Daniel whispered.
That comment was unwarranted. That woman didn't even know Daniel personally. How could that woman make her conclusion without knowing anything?
Tamara shook her head. "She's being a bitch as usual. Don't take it too personally." She put the phone on the table in front of them.
"How can I not take that personally? It was–" Daniel couldn't finish her sentence. Her voice was getting wobbly.
It was a painful thing to hear. Daniel had already felt how men looked at her from a biased perspective. They only saw her as if she were just a decoration on the circuit. But it felt different when a woman did it.
"Guys, can we wrap this up? I think we have enough videos. Thanks." She stood up and left the room. She did want to cry in front of them. Too embarrassing.
She put her cap on and kept her head down. Hoping no one would notice her teary eyes. She quickly wiped away the tears that escaped her eyes and ran down her cheeks.
She needed to be alone. She needed to hide and lick her wounds in silence.
She went in the direction where her room was. She knew she had no driver’s room now. The test driver did not get one. Yesterday was a loan from Max, just like the garage. But she went there anyway. Hers or not, she knew she could be there. It was a safe space for her.
She opened the door, and Brad was there, typing on his laptop. "Can I stay here for a while? I don't feel great," she said. Her breath was quick and shallow from crying and running.
He closed his laptop and made a room on the small, uncomfortable sofa for her. The room was messy with Max’s belongings.
"Do you need to see a doctor?" Brad asked after he looked up and saw her standing in the doorway. His concern and curiosity were apparent.
She sank down on the other side of the sofa, away from Brad and his puzzled face. She sighed, glad she didn't have to drag her feet any longer. "No, I just need to sit down for a bit or lie down if things get worse." She took off her cap and carelessly tossed it onto the floor next to Max's mess. She leaned her head back as she closed her eyes.
"Would you like some water?" He opened the small fridge and took a small, chilled bottle for her. Beads of condensation quickly formed around it.
"Yes, please. Thanks.'' She took that bottle and drank it in one go. The cold sensation was relaxing, distracting her from her thoughts for a brief moment.
Brad was standing beside the sofa with his arms crossed. He looked at her with a frown, assessing the situation. His eyes were glued to her arms.
She looked down to see what he was staring at. Her arms' skin was full of goosebumps. "Do you have a blanket?"
"No, but is a jacket enough?" He took Max’s jacket from the massage table and gave it to her. "You can lay down there if you'd like." He pointed at the table with a tilt of his head.
Max’s jacket was mixed with a lot of scents. She noticed his new perfume, his old one, and a little bit of hers. She inhaled them deeply.
"Would you mind if I had a moment to myself?" Daniel asked, her voice quivering. “And, Brad, please don’t tell anyone about yesterday, yeah? Nothing happened. I swear.”
Brad handed her a tissue and quietly left the room.
It was just her and her thoughts alone again. She let her dam break. She let herself weep and sob. Got things off of her chest for once.
It felt like forever until Max stormed in, still in his race suit and fireproof. His skin glistened with sweat and champagne. He was red-faced and furrowed with concern. "Are you alright? Brad said you almost passed out."
"I'll be fine," Daniel said with a hoarse voice.
Max frowned deeper. He crouched beside her. And Daniel could smell his victory on his skin and hair.
"It hurts."
"I know,” he said softly. He took Daniel’s cold hand into his warm one. He gently rubbed their palms together to make her feel warm. "You know those comments aren't true, right? I don't understand why she would say that, Daniel."
“Yeah. She doesn’t know shit about me.”
“What will you do now?” He laced their finger together. It was a beautiful sight. “Tell me you will do something. We are here together. You know it, right?"
That statement alone made Daniel take a deep, shaky breath. "I'm not sure," Daniel admitted. "Last time this happened, my team at that time didn't want me to say anything."
"You can't let people get away after doing things like that. You, of course, need to stand up for yourself." He insisted. His eyes were filled with determination despite still whispering soft words at Daniel.
"I'll talk to Blake."
She couldn’t help herself but leaned in and kissed Max’s rossy sticky cheek. “Thanks, Maxy. for your support.”
......................................................................
It was almost 7 p.m. when Daniel heard a knock on her door. She was just reading her draft again and again, making sure she wrote all the things she wanted to say without being whiny. Her attempt at saving her name during a PR storm.
She was sure it was the PR, wanting to collect the rough draft of her statement. She had already written it, but it was neither polished nor ready to be put in public yet. It was waiting for the team's expert to edit and make it more professional.
She put down her laptop on the white sheet of her hotel bed to open the door. A wave of anxiety hit her when her hand touched the door knob.
Tamara stood there, her iPad cradled in her arm. She was still in her work attire. "Hi, Daniel. I am here for the statement," Tamara said.
"Come in." Daniel let her in and told her to sit on the bed. The lack of chairs and a desk in the room forced them to settle on using the only comfortable surface, her bed, as an impromptu workspace.
Tamara sat on the edge of the bed because she didn't want to take off her shoes. "We already talked to Blake about how you want to do it. Is your draft ready?"
Daniel gave her her laptop and showed her the rough draft. "What do you think?"
She scanned the document and then sent it to her iPad by email. "It’s good. Can I edit it now?"
"Yeah, go ahead."
She looked at Daniel. There was a mix of emotions on her face."Daniel, I am sorry for showing you that video." Maybe she got into trouble because she told her during a video recording.
"No, Tamara, you shouldn't apologize for that. I will not shoot the messenger."
They sat in the comfortable silence. While Tamara was doing her job and communicating with the rest of her team, Daniel became more relentless. She anxiously opened and locked her phone continuously. It was a nervous tic, her need to fidget.
Then someone knocked on her door, breaking the silence. Sparking annoyance in Daniel. She was already tired of all the door-knocking.
"I am sorry. Let me see who it is," Daniel said.
It was Max, standing in front of her door while holding a paper cup. He was clad in shorts and a T-shirt, far from his usual post-race celebratory attire. "Hi. I’m just checking on you." His voice was calm and steady, but not his eyes. They were wide and searching.
"I am okay, I think."
He gave her the warm cup he was holding. “I don’t know if you still drink tea while feeling anxious, but I got you some camomile tea.” Max was staring at her like he expected her to invite him inside her room.
Daniel gestured with her chin. "Tamara, from PR, is inside. We are working on my statement."
"Good," he said, "I think I left my watch on your sink."
"Let me see." She went to find the watch without inviting him in. Letting him stand in front of her opened the door.
She checked the sink, the drawers, and the toiletries bag, but the watch was nowhere to be found. And she was sure she didn't see that watch in her bathroom.  "Are you sure you left it here?"
Max entered her room, closed the door, and followed her into the bathroom. It was a small space for both of them. "Yes, of course, I am sure, Daniel. When you fell asleep, I went to the bathroom. I took it off, put it here, and I didn't put it back on in the morning," he whispered, not wanting Tamara to hear them.
The watch was not there. So Daniel went back to the bedroom. She stormed to the right side of the bed, where Max slept that night. "I am sorry. Could you stand up for a bit?" She said to Tamara, who curiously looked back and forth between her and Max.
The younger woman stood up while still holding Daniel's laptop with both of her hands. She patted the mattress, flipped the pillow, but nothing. She slipped her hand into the room between the headboard and the mattress. She pulled out Max's sponsored watch.
"Found it!"
Max came out of the bathroom and took the watch from her hand. He put it on his wrist.
"I know it is not my place to say anything.” Tamara cleared her throat and pointed her finger back and forth at them. “I don't know what is going on between you two. I'm sure it is something. I can feel the energy. But you need to be more careful."
"If you want to release this statement, Daniel, make them believe you. You write, 'We are friends, and I have nothing to do with their breakup.', but you spend a night together in this room. Do you know what it looked like?"
"Yes, you are right. It was my idea." Max replied before Tamara could chew them even more. He stepped between the two women as if he were shielding Daniel from danger. "We will keep our distance."
"Great. I hope you understand."
She ushered Max out of her room. “Goodbye, Max.” With a heavy heart, she closed the door to her room before he could answer her back.
It felt like a betrayal. And Daniel was betraying herself, denying herself. All she really wanted was to be with Max, but they knew that would make things worse.
It is for the best.

okay but WHYYY is no one talking about louis and daniel WHYYYYYYYYYY is no one talking about the greatest grandpa4grandpa relationship known to man and i don’t even mean romantically i mean in the most basic human platonic level their relationship is FASCINATING.
like louis SAUGHT HIM OUT after FIFTY YEARS he FOUND HIS BOY, this horrible infant who DID NOT UNDERSTAND A THING HE TOLD HIM, who saw his raw, decades-old pain and wanted in on it, AND HE GOES BACK FOR HIM BECAUSE HE KNOWS HE’S CHANGED. he can understand now. he can help him find the truth.
and like, they’re both absolutely terrified by each other because they’re both uniquely skilled at getting under each other’s skin and finding that truth (and also because… louis could just up and eat daniel anytime but shhhh…) and it’s because they UNDERSTAND EACH OTHER. louis’s interviewing daniel as much as daniel’s interviewing him, just. pulling teeth from each other’s head, trying to pull out all the rot with such violence and cruelty (from both of them!! daniel is a cockwallop!!) but they want to help each other they CARE ABOUT EACH OTHER.
LIKE THIS????
