Satellotype

(sah-TELL-OH-type)

“Middle French, from Latin satellit-, satelles attendant” x

“ a celestial body orbiting another of larger size;  a manufactured object or vehicle intended to orbit the earth, the moon, or another celestial body” x

potentially “satelle” (sah-TELL) for short.

Satellotype: A term to describe a nonhuman identity that revolves around, enhances, describes, acts as an accessory to, is only expressed through, or otherwise is secondary to a primary 'type, 'link, and/or alterhuman or nonhuman identity or identities.

A kintype for your kintype, a sense of nonhumanity that impacts how one may experience or describe a specific 'type. A way to articulate an underlying sense of understanding towards a nonhuman identity.

A satellotype may not be literal. A wolf therian may have a cryptid satellotype attached to their wolf identity, but that does not make the wolf itself a cryptid. They may feel that their understanding of their 'type, their expression of their 'type, or their experience with this 'type is reminiscent of a cryptid.

This may be used those who wish to describe the way multiple 'types or 'kins interact with each other. Sattelotypes may come and go, be permanent, or there may be multiple types active at once, but they always act secondary to a "primary" 'type.

A satellotype, despite being secondary, is no less important or impactful than the 'type it revolves around.

Examples and usage:

"I am a wolf therian with a cryptid satellotype. My experience as a wolf has made me feel as if I am some sort of cryptid to those around me."

"I'm a angelkin, but i've got this dragon satellotype that makes me more reptilian that some of the other angels."

"My ghost 'type has become a satellotype to my werewolf type recently, so I've become this weird spectral wolf man."

"I've got an alien 'type deep down in me, but I feel like I'm only ever able to express it by engaging with my gillman 'type" (this one is specific for me ;] lol)

Permissions:

The satellotype label is for alterhuman/nonhuman use only, and is not connected to radqueer identities. This label is inherently harmless and was made to better articulate a pre-existing phenomena within a specific community.

My personal reasons for coining this term:

This may already exist, but I'm really yet to see anyone talk about it and I haven't come across anything similar before. So I did something about it.

I am a gillman otherkin, but I have an alien kintype that is much less potent. I do not get any shifts from it at all, it's simply a very bone-deep feeling.

The only way that I feel I can express my alien 'type is through the lens of or in association with my gillman type. I am not a gillman who is also an alien, but a gillman who feels like an alien. I've considered calling it a hearttype, but it's not! It's very much an otherkin type that is attached to being a gillman.

I made this term for me, specifically, but others who feel similarly to me are of course free to use it. You also don't have to fit perfectly within the standards to use the term, there is for sure some wiggle room.

Spitting Sea Serpent

Something like a draconic giant archerfish (wow, it’s been a while since we saw those guys back in the letter “G”!), spitting sea serpents are the last of that monster family for this series. At CR 9 and a mere Large size, they’re far less mighty and imposing than the legendary shipbreakers, with small fins and a fanged, draconic head on a long body with fins that resemble a bat’s wings, a melding of sea serpent and dragon that works really well. Highly agile, spitting sea serpents rely on their grace and dexterity to place globules of acidic spittle on target, searing their prey, while they reserve a poisonous, caustic bite for those targets that truly vex – or truly threaten – the sea serpent. Disagreeable and predatory, these “not terribly intelligent” members of the sea serpent family are still Int 8, more than capable of considerable cunning and ruthlessness, and though they’re fairly tough, they need to employ hit and run tactics. There’s plenty of big, nasty things in the depths that just might find a spitting sea serpent a meal.

As monsters these creatures fit into a variety of roles. Unlike many sea serpents, the spitting variety is quite aggressive and hungry for prey, probably being seen more than any of their more elusive kin thanks to their hunting strategy. Spitting sea serpents might prefer isolated, desolate stretches but they’d hardly be averse to making a snack of humanoid prey.

Hungry for the flesh and blood of the surface folk, a spitting sea serpent has usurped the chieftain of a gillman tribe, devouring the unfortunate woman to cement his dominance. Now he is the dark and forbidding god-monster of the tribe, demanding living sacrifices from the world above the waves to refrain from some more terrible transgression. The sea serpent has proven unusually creative at spinning dark spiritual narratives together, a mythology of fear that has terrorized the gillmen into compliance.

Caught in a terrible storm and blown far off course, the crew of a small sailing ship have found themselves washed ashore on a small island, their vessel beached. Even once they manage to survive and scrape together the wood to repair their ship, they face one last island hazard – a spitting sea serpent intent on making a meal of the lot of them, having covertly watched from beneath the waves as they went about the work of repairs.

Rather more mercenary that most of their kind, a mated pair of spitting sea serpents have something unique: Letters of marque, splendidly official documents drawn up by the hereditary Sea Lord of Ember. The two have taken it as free reign to harass and raid the shipping of the rival port city of Orinth. Although unable to simply shatter the hulls, their ability to spit acid makes the two a severe hazard to crews, and they often pluck off exposed crew members, leaving vessels vulnerable to their human partners. The two sea dragons have a taste for shiny objects, earning bounties, giving them a hoard uncommon among their kind.

I'm not going to attack people or howl at the moon. Getting other people involved isn't how I do things.

I'm not the Gillman ready to drag a damsel under the lagoon waves. I'm not Dracula looking for necks to bite and curious humans to hypnotize with a look. I'm not going to turn into a werewolf and I'm not a mishmash of human parts given a pulse by lighting.

I relate to monsters because I see myself in them. I've never been well liked, and I'm not conventionally attractive.

I'm human, but I relate. That's what being kin is to me.

which is weird? that im realizing it now, i mean. because i've had a very intense connection to him + the shows/movies for my whole life. spent all day (and many days in the past) info dumping about him + when i see him i think "ah! me!"

but i guess since i never have mental + physical shifts then it's never clicked for me. again, will never be the focus of this blog or my "main" or "primary" kintype, gillman is just very present in my life. more so than anything else. And I don't know if I really will fit into fictionkin culture or spaces.

i don't have kin shifts or noemara or any big opinions on the canon. and i dont like to interact with media that im not familiar with. so i probably wont associate with any of that stuff at all.

anyway, i think i'll start a sideblog to just collect lilo and stitch photos and art. i look at them anyway for my own comfort, might as well have fun with it. will rb with url when i make it.

looking at the gargoyles on these churches got me feelings some kind of way. its not a kin but i might add it as a hearttype. Just being a stone critter, a guardian and protector and a watcher. Water spitting out of my mouth when it rains. Seems like a peaceful existence doing what I already love (people watching and sitting in the rain).

Will debate this for a few days. I'm not the type to really kin many things or collect identities, so who knows if it'll stick. I just resonate with the presence they hold in a space and their monstrous (but generally kind) appearance. The way they stand silently and aren't often included in things, but still there. just really clicks with me. how i am irl most of the time.

Looked up at one and went "oh." It's like a sense of deep understanding and community with them. Was strange and very sudden. Doesn't feel like my alien or gillman 'types, though. I don't look at them and see myself.

It's very late, and I'm tired and probably sick, but I wanted to get some stuff out of me!

I am def an alien kin, at least a little. It is no way as important to me as being a gillman, and likely wont take much of a spotlight here, but its there. Mentally, at least. I also think it has a lot to do with my origins as an otherkin, but that's a whole thing I won't get into right now. What's important to know is that being a gillman and being an alien are intertwined and come from the same source, but the gillman is not an alien. The alien has no real form, no phantom shifts. It's a mindset, a feeling. I don't know who I am or where I'm from, but it's not from this place.

I also think I'm having a bit of a dragon flicker. I've always loved dragons, and thought I was one as a child, but that was more of childhood dreaming than alterhumanity at play. But recently I've been having some wings! It's a little silly- I experience phantom wings a lot, even though I don't kin anything with them. They just appear sometimes. Suddenly. And recently they've been leathery!

Anyway, thats about it. I'm going to go pop some aleve and pray I wake up tomorrow NOT sick as a dog.

howdy! and welcome to my otherkin blog. i am amadeus and i am a 21 year old aromantic lesbian. i use he/she only, no they/them. i like and follow from @actualamadeus .

i've had this blog since august 2023, but i've known i was alterhuman since 2017. i did not activley identify with any of the labels until late 2020 / early 2021.

i enjoy lots of things but am not really active in fandom spaces. i enjoy hiking, backpacking, camping, kayaking, bone hunting, antiquing, and crocheting! i collect bones, type writers, antique books, and labradorite.

i generally try to avoid getting too close with those below 18, however my account is SFW and i am willing to chat with almost anyone!
