Ask Giftless Camilo Madrigal
You can ask any question about my AU of the Giftless Camilo Madrigal as long as it is not too weird, absurd, or disturbing.
It can be :
- What do you like ?
- How do you describe yor relationship with...?
- What are the differences between here and Canon ?
Etc...
Ask Camilo or me, whoever you want, in the box “ask me anything”.

Waiting on Our Miracle
Finished….hm….simply the thumbnail. Dunno if I’ll put it on YouTube. You know they be striking folks 😭
ANYWAYYYYY start to finish, this took me roughly 6.5 hours. About an hour per character, give or take a few minutes obviously. Initially I was only gonna do what was in the original animatic, but decided I wanted to at least a half body of every grandkid. Dunno why 😭
I’m actually pretty proud of did this though! I don’t render as often as I should (especially my ocs they need some love…) but for what it is, I think it’s not too bad.
Should I render more?? I mean I’d like to but I just dunno which aus lmaoooo plus it took me forever
ALSO NOTE UH. Some of you may have seen the bug au drawings. Those are what I call “comic rendered”. They typically don’t have as much detail, specifically in the lighting and shading. These drawings are fully rendered.

The Vally of the lost
This is basically my idea for a massive crossover of a lot of @toaverse au’s
Many of the casitas in different universes are interconnected and have ways of sharing memories
In most universes the madrigals are a good and loving family
Unfortunately in others some members are cruel and abusive
So some of the casitas who are forced to watch their favorite Madrigals suffer because of an entitled village and so called family members plan prepare and bide their time
This all comes to a head when one of the casitas collapses
It rebuilds itself in a world where non of the madrigals survived the raid and the Encanto does not exist taking its favored madrigals with it
The other casitas then abandon their worlds merging with the first casita and taking their madrigals with them as well
It’s pure chaos and confusion as everyone tries to figure out what happened
In the shitty Pepa au most of the family lost their gifts cause casita took them and then gave them to the family members that deserved it
The other casitas like that idea and copy it
They eventually calm down and start talking about their respective worlds and what it was like
Basically like a giant bonding/group therapy session
They all have some trouble at the beginning with expecting people to act like their counterparts but they work through it
Found family but it’s better versions of your actual family
The village gets started when yellow butterflies start leading refugees of la violencia to the vally

How do you think the giftless grandkids reacted to Antonio getting a gift?
On one hand I think they would feel like "Why not me?"
But on the other hand, I don't think they would care and would just be happy for him.
All of them would be a mix of both. At varying levels, sure. But all of them would be really happy for Antonio but also wanting it for themselves.
Before Antonio, it just hadn’t seen like the miracle was intended for anyone besides Alma’s immediate children. And that was fine. If the grandkids weren’t meant to have gifts, then there is nothing wrong with them. Antonio then getting a gift proved it was possible and subsequently the other grandkids were then pushed aside.

La madre silenciosa au character sheets!!
Btw many of the kids are from other towns as well!! The magic bought them and Dolores together! And Alma, julieta, Agustin, pepa, Felix, Isabela and Luisa are referred as “other family“
First we have Paloma, his family owned a shoe shop in bogota, his dad was abusive to his whole family, especially to him because he acts “girly“. He didn’t like making or fixing shoes, neither did he like the “manly“ activities his father forced him to do. He became a bully to protect himself from anyone, Paloma regrets it a lot though. Paloma hated his life and father very much, his mother never did anything besides watch which made him hate them even more. He realized that he loved baking a lot, at that moment he knew that he wanted to become a baker. When his father found out it wasn’t so pretty, he raged out onto him and in the same day Paloma ran away. A week later he was in the Encanto, that’s when Dolores heard him and took him in! He got adopted at the age of 8, a year later he got his gift and he has been the happiest ever :D it didnt take him a while to get off his habit but he was relaxed after.
Next is Camilo! Since birth he was more of an mama‘s boy, yet pepa didn’t pay much attention to him, only when he needed to get praised. Dolores on the other hand made sure to give him the motherly love he deserved. He didn’t like the feeling of Mariano appearing like an father figure for him, he was angry at Felix for lacking at it, but he adapted Mariano quite fast. He was often grouchy about the fact that his parents don’t care. His gift also made the situation worse but his real family always helped him which got him better though time. He loves to take care of his little siblings and in the same time being an wild teenager!
Ines is a "special" child, well at least for a lot of people. She has albinism, her parents thought she was some kind of evil spirit so they treated her rather badly. Ines got bullied from the neighborhoods because of her condition, the school didn’t accept her in either so she didn’t knew to write, read or properly speak. She really isolated herself from the world getting sick often since she stays in her room 24\7. Dolores heard about her a couple of times, she helped ines to get better at basic stuff, she schooled her and took her in when she was 9! Dolores noticed that ines had major anger issues, so she decided to put her in therapy to help ines, which worked a lot! Maybe she can snap sometimes but she‘s working on it. Also she dye‘s her hair because she doesn’t like the white color, she gets reminded often how pretty her hair is but she still won’t like it.
Finally mirabel! She is still giftless in this au, the other family still acts as if she were a curse (besides Luisa). Mirabel obviously tries not to think much of her being giftless even if she is reminded every day. Her parents maybe cared for her more than camilo‘s did but they stopped caring when she didnt get a gift, always making the same excuse “im busy“ Dolores knew mirabel didn’t deserve to get treated like that just because of her gift so she did the caring! Mirabel learned a lot of stuff trough her family, but what she loved to learn the most was the sewing skills her abuela Fiona’s showed her.
They all became a group, since they were raised together and been trough a lot together, their age made them closer too!!
Xavier had a pretty rough life, his mother died at birth and his father hated him for it. His father always looked him up into tight and dark spaces because he didn’t want to see him. Dolores reported him for some crimes he did, just so she could take Xavier in, he was 6 when he got adopted. Xavier was a bit shy at first but he grew to be a very brave boy! He looked up to Mariano a lot and practically did everything he did because he thought that if he did anything wrong he was gonna be put in a tight space again but they made sure to help him with his habit, now he is just wild!! Basically being himself.
Juan is Xavier’s best friend!! Which he is really greatful for since Juan never really had friends. He came from a wealthy family in bogota, he didnt like being wealthy because he got bullied a lot for it. It would get so bad that he often needed to be hospitalized. Because he is from a wealthy family his family doesnt accept him either, they ignore him, dont take care of him and neither do they try to stop his bullying. Like Paloma he ran away out of anger just that this time when he fell asleep in the woods, he woke up the next day in a cozy bed instead of his old cold one. It took him some time to adjust with the people in town, especially the older ones. Juan ran away when he was 8, and he first got his gift 3 years later because the miracle felt the anxiety in him, however he now lives carefree and safe!
Andres had a traumatic past, his blond hair and blue eyes made him get praised by a lot of people which made his parents realize the fame. Andres‘s mother was by far more obsessed with fame so she ofc did everything so people would notice him. They forced him to do stuff just so he would get praised and famed over, if he ddi something wrong he would get punished. When he was 7 he lashed out and his mother burned him with fire as punishment. That happened at night so Dolores got woken by screams, she got his parents arrested and took him in. Andres still tends to avoid a lot of stuff but it is noticeable how he is working on getting better!!
Luz is a bright girl!! Now her mom cared for her however she didnt take care of herself. Her mom always argued with her dad since he was somewhat abusive, at the end she divorced him because she found out he was having an affair. Life was hard after that, luz had to take care of both her mom and herself but after a year her mom took her own life, needless to say it wasn’t a pretty view. She got adopted by Dolores at 5, sometimes Luz has panic attacks because of the trauma so she regularly goes to therapy too. She‘s getting way better! Luz looks up to Isabela often because it seems like she and her mom don’t only look alike but also have a lot in common.
As you can guess Marcia isn’t liked because of her eyes, some of them find it freaky or weird. She actually had a quite big family but they hated her for being different so they tried to get rid of her. (Iykyk) Marcia was extremely traumatized by it, Dolores scolded the entire family including arresting the older ones, needles to say she wasn’t so happy about what she heard. Marcia isolated herself for 6 months after, her family were with her the entire time to help her. The passing months she was getting better and Marcia started to open up. Now she’s happily learning how to write!! Dolores adopted her at 5 years old, kinda sad she was this young.
Lyla had good guardians, her grandparents took care of her till they died, which was when she was 4, after that her parents took her in and since they were young they didnt attend to take care of her. Dolores was already good friends with her grandparents, they knew that her parents wouldn’t take care of her so they asked Dolores to do it. Dolores talked with her parents and adopted lyla!! Layla basically already grew up in the casita so she is pretty used to everything, yet she does need help if it comes to the stairs.
Carlos was actually a homeless boy, his parents left him on the streets when he was 3 and he was on the streets for 3 years till dolores found him. He got picked on a lot and he was skinny which made him insecure too. When Dolores found him he was barely holding on, so he got spoiled a lot ofc!! They helped him with school which he didnt like learning at first, but later on found out he could read comic‘s with it. Plus he became very confident too!!
Esteban has divorced parents, both of them absolutely HATE eachother so they make him their weapon. Every once a week he has to visit the other parent and before he goes the parents tells him to do this or to do that. Esteban doesnt want to do it, he doesnt like it, he feels guilty about it but he knows the punishments. Both of his parents were arrested for the crimes they did (i wonder who reported them) dolores adopted him when he was 8!! Esteban got nothing but just affection from his new family, he loves them very deeply and feels safe with them than he ever has.
The triplets had it very rough, they were selled by their own parents. The ones that bought them treated them very bad, they experimented on them, hurt them for fun and did a lot of other bad stuff. They escaped the place and hid in casita. Dolores found them and adopted them! It took them the longest out of the children to get used to a normal life, but now they are pretty comfortable with their new family! She found them when they were 5, pretty young, sometimes they still struggle a lot.
Leandra‘s dad is pretty troublesome. He always gets in trouble with some kind of bad gang‘s, as you call it. These things get both his dad and himself in danger, he hates not feeling safe the entire time. When he was 6 his dad caused a big thing with a gang, they cornered him and Leandra was with him at that time. In order to survive he told them that they could take Leandra, they then took Leandra and left him alone. The people hurt him for fun throughout a half year, Mariano say them doing stuff to him one day and it didnt end well for them. Mariano saved leandra from the trouble and since that day he has major trust issues, hes grumpy most of the times however he still can be soft :)
Esmeralda was abandoned by her mother when she was 2, she just left her in the forest. Months went by and Dolores started to hear noises in the forest at some points. When she decided to check it out she saw a little toddler, Dolores ofc adopted her. Esmeralda didn't have many problems besides some, she had and still has problems with communication. Speaking for her can be difficult, that's why her family makes sure to always give her a rest when they talk with her. She may looks like she would creep someone out, but she's harmless and would never think of hurting anyone :D
Olivia‘s parents were not stable, they always took some shit. She sometimes ended up in the orphanage because they got arrested. Her parents are abusive and alway aggressive, they never care for her or her brother, so most of the time she has to take care of both of them which can be exhausting. Dolores arrested her parents and took both of them in. Olivia was really happy to have new parents, she got used to Mariano and Dolores really quickly because they were so comforting. She was also happy that her brother was treated well in others care, she finally could be a normal kid!
Rosa has a big family, she has 3 big siblings who moved out of her house when she was young, they didn't treat her well, especially her older sister. They left her out and bullied her often, Isabela reminds her of her big sister a lot and that’s why she hates Isabela a lot. Not only that but they both look and act alike which makes her hatred towards Isabela even more. Her parents weren’t good people either, they too treated her like an outcast and made her do all the chores in the house. They made fun of her too till Dolores got them arrested for a reason. Rosa really looks up to Dolores as her savior, she can finally just be herself without anyone judging her.
Rafeala‘s parents were young when they had him and that’s why they gave him to his grandmother. His grandmother HATES him for making her daughter's life miserable. Rafaela was treated very badly by her, when he was 5 she hurt him so badly he got a major concussion. That concussion damaged his brain really badly which made him forget to do a lot of stuff and a lot of memories. Dolores wasn’t so happy about the news and that woman did not end in jail without breaking some bones. However the injuries didn't stop him from being a very positive child!! He’s happy with his new family!! Sometimes he is scared of Alma because of his memories.
Antonio was in dolore‘s care since the moment he was born, pepa did not want to raise another child. (As if she raised her others) Antonio knows that Dolores and Mariano aren't his real parents but that won't stop him from loving them as if they were his parents which they technically are. He hates his other family for hurting his family, the only person he would still talk to would be Luisa since she is actually nice and would be there for him. He didn't have much problems with his family next to him even so sometimes he still has a lot of anxiety because of his expectations of being the next “hope of the miracle“. His family will make sure though whatever will happen that they will always stay with him.
Cecilia has some troublesome parents, they caused trouble and blamed her for it. She didn't like being blamed for everything they did. Not only that but they were heavy alcoholic‘s too. Sometimes they would force her to buy it for them, she hated the feeling, she hated it all. She isolated herself a lot, Dolores finally got her parents arrested last year and since then she has been the happiest. No more getting blamed at, no more of the smell of alcohol and no more hurting. She loves her family and loves to be with her friends everyday.
Alejandra has divorced parents, she never really sees her dad and is around her mom the entire time. Her mom brings a man over sometimes and if they are really drunk they start to criticize her, calling her bad names or just making fun of her in general. She hates being made fun of so she goes to her abuela Fiona’s house a lot since it's near. After some time Dolores adopted her, now she feels safe in her own home. She doesn't need to be scared of anyone criticizing her ever again and she loves the feeling of being free of those bad words.
Juancho was also one of Mariano’s neighbors. He practically grew up in Mariano’s home since his parents didn’t give a shit about him, like they wouldn’t care if he just went missing, nor would they even care if he had died. They didn't want children and acted aggressive towards him often, Juancho didn't like them even one bit. Mariano often hung around him because he knew how they acted with him, in the end he adopted him and Juancho was more than happy. Juancho did have a coffee problem because once he saw the coffee he pretty much got addicted, they are working on it though.
They all got matching bracelets after seeing the older ones having one too.
Patricia is Frisco's and Vicenta’s step sibling. Their mom cheated on multiple men and in the end she married one, aka patrcia‘s dad. They got treated pretty bad, they were forced to do all the housework, if they didn't they got punishments. Dolores adopted them last year when they were 4, she actually fought to adopt them earlier but the police often refused, in the end she finally adopted them. They were fearful at first but then got comfortable with their new family, they are relaxed and don't have to worry about punishments anymore.
Yoga was treated badly because of his skin condition, his family made him feel like a mistake, like he didn’t deserve to be alive. Luckily he was the neighbor of Fiona, he always ran to her after they did something, sometimes he would stay with her some days and sometimes he would stay at Dolores’s. He hated being treated badly just because of his condition. Fiona ranted the parents out and Dolores ended up adopting him. For some reason he liked the julieta‘s outfit a lot, it made him feel calm just by seeing it so they made sure to make him something similar in which he ofc feels safe.
Diego was the oldest and first one Dolores adopted. (Besides Camilo and Mirabel) His father didn't treat him well, he made Diego work a lot. His uncle‘s side of the family wasn’t good either, they too treated him badly. Diego was confused most of the time, yet he was also angry. Sometimes his father would kick him out and then take him back in, but one day when Diego was 9 he ran away, he didnt wanna work anymore, he didnt wanna get hurt or bad-mouthed anymore. Dolores found him in the forest and took him in, he looked up to her a lot since that day. Now he is rested, no more work and no more bad words, plus he loves being a big brother.
Bronco‘s parents only used him and his sister for good reputation. They didn‘t want children but they saw how much people with children get praised so they decided to have 2 children for good reputation only. When they weren’t getting praised they were left alone unattended somewhere, Dolores always has to go to their garden so they won't hurt themselves accidentally. When Bronco was 2 he set the house on fire without knowing, the house burned down but Dolores still got him and his sister out in time. His parents didn’t survive, but bronco didn't care that much since he didn't even really know them. Dolores adopted them and he felt happier to be with her than his parents.
Cruzito‘s parents didn't want him, they noticed how Dolores adopted many children, so they asked Dolores to take him. She was upset how they did not want their own child but she didn't refuse. Dolores adopted cruzito, he grew up happily in a big family with lots of love and spoilering.
Almira’s parents used her for a good reputation like bronco. She didn't like seeing so many bad face‘s, some were making her upset. She didn't like going to the same places and would just end up crying. One day her brother set the house on fire, Dolores saved her but she was really traumatized by it, she cried every time she was put down by Dolores because of the thought of being hurt again, after some time though she felt safe enough to be on the floor and even start to walk herself. Mostly though she likes being picked up rather than walking.
Angela‘s and Amalia's parents weren’t bad people, well at least not their mother. Their mother was good friends with Dolores, but she knew that she couldn’t handle twins at birth since it was risky for her age. She made a promise with Dolores that if she died she wanted her to take care of the twins. And sadly she did die after the birth, Dolores was devastated but kept her promise. Their father divorced their mother when he found out about the pregnancy, he didn't want children and so he left. Dolores makes sure they grow up to be loved.
Victorio is Olivia’s little brother, since birth he has been abused, his parents were nothing but just aggressive towards him. Thankfully he is a calm child most of the time. He is happily now in Dolores’s care, without getting hurt for the rest of his life.
Now we're onto Dolores!! She started to notice Mirabel was neglected by the whole family, even by her own mother. She hated hearing the cries she heard from mirabel after the ceremony, no one also went to comfort her so she took the matters into her own hand and started to take care of her, it wasn’t a long time till she started to take care of Camilo too. After some time she heard a child in the forest, all alone and she couldn’t just leave him there so she took him in. Since that day she started to take more and more care of the children that needed care. But who would take care of Dolores? Well at the time she found that child in the forest she also met a woman in the age of her mother, she built a bond with the woman and started to see her as a mother figure, pepa lost her spark with Dolores a long time ago, since she was 5. She also met her beloved husband through the kids, everything is great…till it isn’t.
Mariano grew up with no parents, his father is unknown and his mother died at birth. His grandma took care of him and he made a promise to never be like his father. He grew up pretty well behaved, he made sure to treat everyone kindly. He started to get a crush on his best friend, Dolores after a while. He has known her since childhood and he also knows that she helps the people in need. He wanted to be by her side, helping the ones in need, but he also wanted to help her too. After a confession, they started to date and then he proposed, they got married and Mariano couldn’t be happier. He loves his family and what he has become. He would never change it the way it is.
Elena Rosa, the grandmother of Mariano had a normal life, she grew up like any other kid, maybe sometimes her life got down, like that time she lost her husband in the escape. She gave birth to a little girl, who later on also died on her grandson‘s birth. She was devastated but she swore to raise him in the way she would’ve. She hates her daughter's husband for abandoning her during the pregnancy. Elena loves Dolores and her family a lot too. She knew that Dolores was just perfect for Mariano, plus she also loves to spoil her great grandchildren. They are everything for her.
Fiona grew up poorly, her family wasn’t the best, so she made sure to cut them out if she ever got married. Which she did, but after he found out that she couldn’t get children he left her and 6 years of her life went to waste on him. She was alone after that, till Dolores came to her life. She treated Dolores like a daughter she couldn’t have before. And in the process Fiona also got a son-in-law plus grandchildren!! She loves spoiling Dolores and her grandchildren, she made sure to make sure they won’t get the same treatment she got. She’s very protective of her family, she will hurt anyone who even dares to looks at them the wrong way.
\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\
Y’all best believe I spend a lot of time of this 😭 I also needed to rewrite most of their lores since tumblr decided to be a pain in the ass 😞 Fiona is just a character I wanted to add since Dolores deserves a mother figure in this au 🥲👍 I really love and enjoy this au a lot!! I think in the future I will start to write too :D!! If any of y’all got something to say or ask so about this au I be very glad to answer or hear about it!!
Also, the children live in a second casita alike house, just that this house is like a magical room. In Dolores’s room, Guzman‘s house and Fiona‘s house is a door connected to casita 2.0. The room is ofc huge, and everyone who chooses to have an own bedroom has one, some share one cuz they don’t like being alone. They have a garden, multiple bathrooms, and everything they need. Since technically the room isn’t connected to the candle like casita is, it still will be there after casita‘s fall!! Just that Dolores room door won’t work anymore till they rebuild casita. 🩵

in the spirit of the season (mutuals posting about their encanto aus) i wanted to post about mine bc i love them and am not active enough on here and wanna change that bc sharing my stuff is fun! so without further ado here they are lol
next gen au
pretty self explanatory. the story outlines what all the madrigals (mostly the grandkids) are up to in the years following the movie. mirabel gradually takes on more of a leadership role as time passes and eventually becomes the matriarch after alma's death and with enough time to prepare for the role. under her leadership, the madrigals are less shoehorned into roles and are encouraged to express themselves more freely, but being the leader still isn't easy and things still aren't perfect - while alma is still alive, mirabel often finds herself going to her for advice and repairing their bond further in the process. she also gets a gf (lorena), i've been playing around with the idea of her being an outsider that finds her way into the encanto but i would have to flesh that plot out a little more before i make it official. dolores eventually marries mariano, but only on her terms - she realizes quickly after the movie that though she loves mariano, she wants to take things slow, and mariano is more than happy to respect that. he puts in a lot of effort to understand how her gift works and help her out with it whenever he can, and for once, she feels like the one being heard. isabela, now free of her old role as the golden child, begins to let her more adventurous side out, exploring the outskirts and forests of the encanto to observe the plant life. she hones her gift and is able to bring even more exotic plant species to the encanto and starts up a very successful garden. she also ends up marrying two village women - lilli and rosa - and the three of them adopt a daughter, jacinda, together and spoil her rotten. lilli runs a flower shop and isa helps her out immensely with this. luisa finally learns to take it easy, prioritizing rest and relaxation after so many years of working hard to serve the community - though she definitely still loves to lift and hang out with the donkeys in her spare time bc old habits die hard. she probably takes over the care and raising of the donkeys as a whole bc they love her. she marries a village woman, inés, and they adopt two daughters, valentina and ciela. camilo is actually the first grandkid to settle down - he marries his childhood best friend and love of his life marco, and the two of them have six children together - amelia, imelda, brunito, ignacio, felipe, and sofia. they have their hands quite full with fatherhood but on top of that marco works as a teacher at the encanto's school while camilo continues to volunteer in the community, eventually becoming the drama director and soccer coach for the school. antonio grows up and starts his own animal sanctuary in the encanto that becomes wildly successful. he enlists dolores' help to scope out any injured or sick animals in the forests and nurses them back to health at the sanctuary, and he often accompanies isa on her trips to the forest to keep taxonomy records of the encanto's diverse wildlife. he never had much of an interest in romance - though plenty of people swoon over his kindness to the animals - but he is very fulfilled nonetheless and couldn't be happier helping take care of his animal friends. i have a more detailed timeline and bios for the kids that i'll be posting eventually but this is the main rundown of where the grandkids are at years down the line!
swap
essentially follows the plot of the movie but the sides of the family swap roles. instead of alma, pedro is the head of the family. pepa has the gift of healing food and felix is her clumsy husband, camilo is the golden child with the wonderful floral gift, dolores is the middle child with the gift of super strength, and antonio is the baby of his side of the family, cursed to a giftless existence (and being the main character of the storyline). on the other side of the family, julieta's emotions control the weather while agustin keeps her calm, luisa is the eldest with the ability to hear a pin drop from miles away, isabela is the mischievous shapeshifting middle child, and mirabel is the youngest member of the family and gains the ability to speak with animals. bruno is still bruno. did i make this au entirely to put camilo in pretty pink outfits and make him a mean annoying gay? maybe.
pirates
the warm color family is a fearsome and renowned pirate crew descended from the notorious husband-wife pirate duo alma and pedro madrigal (the latter is dead and the former has long since retired), with pepa as the captain and felix as the first mate. pepa was estranged from her mother and siblings in her youth as she attempted to learn more about her parents' past, and she soon set out on her own to live the pirate life that alma tried so hard to keep her children out of. in the meantime, julieta and her family form their own rival crew and set sail in search of pepa to take their vengeance. bruno tries his best to be a good mama's boy and stay home, but he is soon taken hostage by the fearless captain hernando, a legendary pirate who has feuded with both madrigal sisters and their crews for a while now. he grows rather fond of his bargaining chip over time and bruno eventually becomes the captain's lover and first mate. when the sisters finally put aside their squabbles and unite to save their brother from their enemy's clutches, it's a very awkward family reunion. also everyone has their gifts and uses them to help their crew in one way or another. eventually when the two sides of the family unite, the grandkids take up a ship of their own with mirabel as the new captain.
roommates
marco and camilo are college roommates with luca and alberto. that's literally it no linear plot just vibes. luca is a first year astronomy student, alberto is a second year student and undeclared, marco and camilo are third years and marco is majoring in education while being on the soccer team and camilo is majoring in theatre (🤢). alberto and camilo despise each other but also camilo is lowkey crushing. camilo and marco are already dating and alberto and luca are also definitely together but heavily in denial about it. they fight over dishes being left in the sink and decorate their dorm all cute
the fall
wrote a ten chapter fic about this one so read that if you wanna know what it entails but tl;dr au where the family never recovers after the fall of casita and they go their separate ways, with dolores camilo and isa fully moving out, their whereabouts unknown - until, ten years later, mirabel takes it upon herself to track them down, reunite the family once and for all, and save the miracle for real this time. will she succeed? what have the runaways all been up to over these past ten years? read it and find out i'm not telling you! also this fic/au is quite old compared to the others so no marco 😔 fly high king
mamma mia
the silliest dumbest most self indulgent au ever. camilo centric of course. the storyline is literally just mamma mia but with camilo. he has twin daughters and one of them (ima) is getting married and wants to invite her other biological father to the wedding - the only problem is she doesn't know who that is, and if camilo's old diary describing all his old hookups in detail is to be believed, there's three possibilities - marco osma, dante velazquez, and nicolas sorelli (the latter two are ocs, i'll probably post their bios at some point lol also nicolas is trans so he's definitely not the other dad but he's stealth so he's just going along for the ride). she invites all three of them to her wedding and they reunite with camilo for the first time in twenty years. drama ensues. camilo marries marco at the end regardless of if he's the dad or not (but he probably is - they never find out for sure). isa is tanya (so lilli is pepper ofc) and mirabel is rosie (except she doesn't end up with one of the dads at the end bc she actually respects herself). ima's fiancées identity is yet to be determined bc i don't have a partner oc for her but i do know she's a lesbian so. gay greek weddings! camilo in overalls! love wins!
runaway camilo
this one is a rewrite of the canon plot to a degree but not really enough to be considered a full on au. plays with the scrapped concept of camilo looking completely different after the fall of casita that didn't make it into the final movie, which is like one of my favorite concepts ever especially because of how easily it plays into trans camilo. in this rewrite, camilo has basically used his gift to masculinize himself perpetually since his ceremony, which all but cures his dysphoria - that is, until casita falls, he loses the gift he had become dependent on, and it all blows up in his face. he's unrecognizable when the dust clears, and rather than be seen in such a state, he flees the scene and goes missing just around the same time as mirabel. the family is split as pepa and felix go looking for their son while the cool color family goes looking for mirabel, and both are found within a few days - camilo in the depths of the forest, skin scraped and clothes ragged from running into the forest with reckless abandon, practically digging his own grave and ready to give up for good. when he's found, it takes a LONG time for him to allow anyone to see him, much less recover from the trauma. the rewrite basically involves these events and the aftermath. luckily camilo does get his gift back when casita is rebuilt but the scars are forever and he probably still has nightmares about losing his gift well into adulthood and has to learn to become comfortable going without his gift for short bouts of time in order to get more comfortable lest the worst case scenario happens again! more or less a transmilo angst fest add-on to the main plot of the movie. mimi needs a hug 💔

Mirabel's Super Secret Adventure
Movie AU
Chapter Preview: Even folded, the ladder was a bit awkward to fit through the door so she shimmied through sideways, watching the top of the ladder as she carefully eased it under the doorway.
“Uh, what are you doing?”
Prologue Prev Next Masterlist
2. Bridges and Ladders
After seeing the giant hole in the ground behind the walls, Mirabel had sort of assumed the cracks were structural, despite what she’d overheard Tío Bruno say. But now that she had watched a crack appear, only for it to disappear again, she couldn’t deny there was something else going on.
Once the party was over and everybody was in bed, Mirabel snuck down to the back garden. She found a folding ladder in the garden shed and carefully carried the bulky thing into the house through the kitchen door.
Even folded, the ladder was a bit awkward to fit through the door so she shimmied through sideways, watching the top of the ladder as she carefully eased it under the doorway.
“Uh, what are you doing?”
Mirabel almost screamed, and had to fumble to keep the ladder from falling to the floor. Once it was safely hugged to her chest she turned to stare at Camilo, who had apparently been in the process of stealing some of the leftovers from the party.
“What do you mean?” Mirabel asked, as casually as she could.
Camilo raised an eyebrow and looked pointedly at the ladder. She also looked at the ladder, pressing her lips together, then met his eyes and shrugged as if she still didn’t know what he was talking about.
Camilo snorted, rolling his eyes, “I’ll sic Gabe on you.”
“You wouldn’t,” Mirabel hissed.
Grinning, Camilo opened his mouth, drawing in a deep breath for maximum volume. Mirabel held her hand out to stop him and almost dropped the ladder. With a barely swallowed curse she caught the ladder and managed to lean it securely against the door frame.
She turned back to him, opened her mouth to lie, then thought better of it and instead said, “If I tell you, and you help, you know you’ll get blamed.”
“Hm,” Camilo thought about that, then slowly nodded. He was mischievous, fun loving Camilo, who played pranks; she was giftless, spare tire Mirabel, who must be protected at all costs. If they conspired together Abuela would never believe it was Mirabel’s idea.
Despite this, he eyed the ladder curiously, and she could see him debating whether or not getting blamed was worth sating his curiosity.
“I’ll tell you after I do it,” Mirabel tried.
“Promise?”
“Promise, as soon as I can tell you without risking you getting the blame, I will,” Mirabel nodded frantically.
“Alright, deal,” Camilo shrugged, apparently satisfied, “although if you’re going to be sneaking around, you should know Tío Bruno is still up.”
She stopped breathing for half a second, “He-? Did you see what he was doing?”
“Eh, being weird,” he said, casually piling a handkerchief with enough dessert to give a jaguar cavities, “as usual.”
“What sort of weird?”
“He was staring at the walls with a magnifying glass. I didn’t ask why. We got an arrangement you know,” Camilo tied off his handkerchief, “I don’t pry into all that weirdness he does, he doesn’t tell my Pá I get up in the middle of the night to steal food.”
“Did-, did it seem like he found whatever he was looking for?”
“I don’t know, why?”
Mirabel licked her lips, whereas before she had contemplated lying, now she thought it might be best to tell him the full truth.
But…
But if she did that then he would want to see the cracks too. And he would want to help fix them, like she did. And then this wouldn’t be Mirabel’s secret adventure, it would be just another thing her cousins helped her with.
“I’ll tell you when you can’t get blamed,” she repeated, “just uh, don’t tell anyone you saw me. Not even Tío Bruno.”
Usually Tío Bruno was pretty relaxed about them breaking the rules. He only ever tended to interfere when they were doing something spectacularly stupid. Like trying to turn Casita’s courtyard into a swimming pool.
“Wait, do you know what he was doing?”
“Yeah.”
Camilo once again looked really tempted to put his curiosity before his self preservation.
“Please,” Mirabel whispered, if she wasn’t holding the ladder she would have clasped her hands together, “let me do this without help.”
He raised an eyebrow again, frowning deeply, for once not looking even a little amused. His eyes drifted from her, to the ladder, then he turned and glanced at the kitchen door. Camilo looked back at her and nodded, an oddly sympathetic expression on his face.
“You promise you’ll tell me what’s going on?”
“Sí! On my life!”
“Ok, then I’ll cover for you,” Camilo said, “see if I can keep Gabe off your back.”
“Ay god, I would hug you if I didn’t have this ladder,” she breathed.
Camilo snorted, his usual grin sneaking back into place, “That’s two favors you owe me now.”
“Yeah, yeah! I can make you a new shirt or something,” Mirabel agreed, finally carrying the ladder the rest of the way into the kitchen.
“Oh, that’s not a bad idea,” he hummed thoughtfully, walking ahead of her and checking the courtyard was clear before he held up his thumb and strolled out of the kitchen with her, “actually, I got that old shirt with the ratty collar, it was one of my favorites.”
“You want me to spruce it up?” Mirabel asked, following him as quietly as she could with her steps weighed down by the heavy ladder, “How fancy we talking?”
“Wear it to parties but not church type fancy.”
“So something on the flashy side? You want any beading?”
“Oh, that depends, what you got?”
“You know what, I’ll just make a few sketches and hand them over and you can circle what you like,” Mirabel said, huffing and puffing as she followed Camilo up the stairs. She bumped the ladder against the wall and immediately apologized to Casita.
“Works for me,” he agreed, checking the coast was clear at the top of the stairs before stepping out of the stairwell.
“Great,” she said, a bit distractedly as she carefully got the ladder around the corner and started carrying it towards the painting.
“Night,” Camilo whisper shouted, heading for his own room, and Mirabel returned the farewell over her shoulder.
When she got to the painting she carefully leaned the ladder on the wall, then opened the painting a crack. First she listened for any telltale sounds of shuffling sandals, then she peaked her head in. Once sure the secret passage was clear she opened the painting as wide as it would go.
With some difficulty she managed to get both the ladder and herself through the hole, then closed the painting behind her. Once again she waited for her eyes to adjust, then began the journey back down to the big ol’ hole she’d found.
The pathway seemed both twice as narrow and three times as long now that she was carrying a ladder through it. And she spent the entire time worried Tío Bruno would pop out from behind the next corner and catch her. But eventually, arms shaking from holding the ladder for so long, she made it to the hole.
Mirabel put the ladder down, unfolded it, then began feeding it into the apparent abyss. As she’d expected, it wasn’t even ten feet deep.
She climbed down the ladder then waded through the thick mist that clung to the ground and propped the ladder up against the other side. Mirabel climbed back up then turned and stared at the ladder.
The hole was maybe nine feet deep, and the ladder fully extended was about twelve feet. There was a possibility Bruno was wandering around back here, and there was no way he wouldn’t notice three feet of ladder sticking out of the hole.
She glanced over her shoulder then climbed back down.
After a bit of experimenting Mirabel figured out if she folded the ladder in half it was pretty well camouflaged by the mist and darkness. It meant she had to climb the last three feet without it, but there were plenty of footholds.
Hole vanquished and ladder sorted, Mirabel dusted herself off and continued her journey.
She was in uncharted territory now. She kept her eyes peeled for any cracks, and her ears open for any knocking on wood. Excitement bubbled in her throat as she got farther and farther into the walls, and away from the safe predictability of the outside world.
By the time she saw the faint golden light peeking out from around the next bend, it was all Mirabel could do to stop herself from skipping.
She slowed down, and carefully eased herself forward, toward the light. As she neared it, she started to hear a quiet scraping noise, punctuated by one of Tío Bruno’s noisy yawns. When she got to the corner she pressed her back to the wall, took a deep breath, then eased her head out to look around it.
The crack beneath Isabela’s feet had been small, small enough that the only reason Mirabel had noticed it was because of the motion involved in the actual cracking process.
These cracks were not small. And there must have been hundreds of them.
Mirabel gulped, watching transfixed as Tío Bruno casually patched the secret cracks in the walls of their home. Everything, from the way he gathered spackle, to the way he placed it on the cracks, to the way he carefully smoothed it out so the cracks were completely filled in, spoke of practice. Perhaps years of it.
How long had he been doing this?
Tío Bruno had always been the best uncle a girl could ask for, he was gentle, encouraging, easy to talk to, and always happy to offer a hug or embarrassing story about her mother. But he had also always been weird. Just so, so, weird.
Mirabel didn’t mind the weird, it was just a part of how Tío Bruno was. She suspected it was a side effect of being able to see things others couldn’t, because Amada could be a bit weird too. But the villagers minded the weird. They minded it a lot. Most of them at least.
Oh sure, some people saw Tío Bruno as a sort of mischievous but kind hearted spirit. He was always happy to help a child after all, but his visions often spread chaos or misery. There was a whole spectrum from people who believed Tío Bruno was good with bad parts, to people who believed he was bad with good parts. The general consensus was that despite being a Madrigal, and therefore an important part of the village, Tío Bruno was something other. Something capable of great darkness.
He was seen as a necessary evil.
Mirabel had always known better, she’d never doubted her uncle for a second. She still didn’t doubt that whatever was happening, Tío Bruno was doing whatever he could to help their familia.
But how long had he kept this a secret? And why?
Tío Bruno paused in his spackling to stretch and groaned as his back popped. The sound prompted her to withdraw, and she leaned back against the wall, re-evaluating the situation.
What the hell was happening?
She thought back to the conversation she’d overheard earlier. It sounded like Tío Bruno had seen the cracks coming, but didn’t know what had caused them. Although, he did seem sure that Mirabel herself was in the center of it.
Was…? Was this what the miracle had been preparing for? When it didn’t give her a gift? Was this… what she was born for?
Then why didn’t Tío Bruno tell her? Why was he patching the cracks instead of having her come and fix them?
For a second, Mirabel steeled herself, ready to burst around the corner and demand answers. But then she remembered something else Tío Bruno had said earlier.
He’d said something about how mature she was, how she knew how much her family loved her, then said, “I thought that would mean-. But it hasn’t”. So, it was entirely possible this wasn’t actually connected to her, he could have been wrong about her being at the center of whatever this was. Honestly, the cracks had appeared near Isabela, and apparently in Luisa’s room.
Not around Mirabel.
She risked one more glance around the corner, watching Tío Bruno patch up the wall for a few more seconds. Then she sighed and began sneaking back the way she’d come.
Alright, so she’d seen the cracks. Now what?
She didn’t know what was causing them, Tío Bruno didn’t even know what was causing them! He’d apparently been trying to figure it out for what? Years now?
What hope did Mirabel have?
For a second, she was tempted to just forget what she’d seen. She didn’t have a gift, she didn’t have a clue what was happening, she didn’t even know how to make spackle. Her role in the family was to stay safe in case the miracle ever needed her, she couldn’t go running around being reckless.
Mirabel reached the hole and stared down into the mist.
But-, but Mirabel wanted to help. She didn’t want to sit around and wait for everything to go wrong. She didn’t want to fix the damage, she wanted to solve whatever problem was causing it.
But what could she do that Tío Bruno couldn’t?
She stared down into the hole for a long time, turning that question around and around in her head. It’s entirely possible she would have stood there forever if she hadn’t been jolted from her thoughts by the sound of sandals slapping against wood.
Ah meircoles! Tío Bruno was coming.
With nowhere else to hide, Mirabel climbed down into the hole then took the ladder down so it was lying beneath the mist. She crouched down, waiting.
The slap of sandals got closer and closer, then suddenly sped up. Just as she suspected, with a running start, Tío Bruno lithely hopped from one floorboard to another until he was back on the other side. Then he just kept walking.
When the sound of his sandals had faded, Mirabel stood up straight with a little, “Huh.”
She’d known Tío Bruno could do that, she’d been expecting it, but that didn’t change how impressive it was to see it in real life. He was such a small man, and he was always complaining about his back. He didn’t look like-, well, he wasn’t exactly what Mirabel pictured when she thought of athleticism.
He used to be taller, in old pictures he was the same height as Tía Pepa, but his efforts to make himself seem smaller and non-threatening had paid off in the way of trouble standing up straight.
That was a revelation and a half. Just over a year ago Mirabel had been sneaking around with Amada. It could either be called late at night, or early in the morning, depending on your personal philosophies on that sort of thing. Their goal had not been to eavesdrop on a private conversation, but to get breakfast made before their Mamas woke up.
Unfortunately they had underestimated how early Julieta and Leandra had to wake up in order to have breakfast for sixteen people ready by sunrise, so eavesdropping is exactly what they ended up doing.
“I’m trying my best, but I’m not a chiropractor,” Julieta was saying, “honestly, at this point all I can do is ease the pain.”
“I know,” Leandra had sighed, “I know, I just wish there was something else that could be done.”
“There is,” Abuela said, and both girls had cringed, they’d be dead meat if Abuela caught them sneaking around, “he could stand up straight. He only has these problems because he’s always hunching over.”
Leandra sighed again, noisily, “Sí, but he’s not going to stop hunching until the villagers stop being afraid of him. You’ve raised a very kind and gentle man, he’d rather curse himself to decades of back problems than risk scaring people.”
There was a pause, then Abuela had sighed as well, when she spoke again her voice was softer, “Sí, he has always been-. Surely, he can think of some other way to make himself seem non-threatening. Something that doesn’t involve damaging his own spine?”
There had been more, but Mirabel didn’t get to hear it.
Amada had frowned, shaking her head, and snuck past the entrance to the kitchen. Mirabel had followed her a second later, sensing that something was wrong. Amada led her out into the night where she stared at the village, eyes glowing gold. Then she had picked up a rock, carried it up the road and placed it down at the edge of the market square, carefully adjusting it until it was just how she wanted it.
She’d walked back into Casita and the next day, it had rained heavily, leaving the ground slick with mud. After the rain let up the villagers flooded the market, a cart had rolled over the rock and the cart wheel had shattered. Nobody was hurt when the cart toppled over and, thanks to the slippery mud, skidded into the market square, however the fruit in the cart fell out and got underfoot. All but three people who passed through the square that day fell into the mud, either because they stepped on a piece of fruit that rolled out from under them, they stepped on a smashed piece of fruit that had mixed with the mud to make a goopy slippery puddle, or because they had been knocked over by somebody else who had fallen.
The rock hadn’t even been that big, it hadn’t looked like it would damage the cart, or like it could cause so much chaos. Just like Tío Bruno didn’t look like he could effortlessly vault over giant holes.
Sometimes, looks could be deceiving, sometimes expectations fell short of reality.
Mirabel propped the ladder back up and climbed out of the hole, marching back to the wall with all the cracks. She didn’t know what she could do.
But she was ready to find out.

Mirabel AU / Mirabel Angst / Mama Mirabel / Part Eight
(The beginning of the movie-based plot)
Antonio had woken up and jumped onto Mirabel's bed, telling her that it was his birthday. She grabbed him and pulled him into a hug.
“You know if it wasn’t your birthday I would be mad at you for waking me up.”
“No, you wouldn’t, you love me too much.”
“You’re right you little stinker,” she said as she tickled him.
“Feliz Cumpleanos Tonito.”
“Gracias Mirabel.”
Mirabel knocked on everyone’s door to wake them up as usual. She did her daily chores, laundry, setting the table for breakfast, etc. Then that morning she went outside to play with the village children since she was already up. Tonito wanted to join her but his Mami and Papa were smothering him and wishing him a happy birthday. She sang and ran around the village telling them about her familia. Afterward the village children asked her what her gift was. She should’ve known that they would ask. Most of the time the talk about Mirabel being giftless was told through whispers and rumors. Mirabel didn’t want to lie to them.
“I wasn’t given a gift.” She said solemnly.
“Why not?” A young girl asked.
“I don’t know why, but it’s ok. It just means that I have more time to play with you guys.”
“Is Antonio going to get a gift?”
“Of course he is silly. He’s going to get a super cool gift, so you better watch out.” She said with exaggerated hand movements. The kids giggled and ran off to play.
She headed inside, knocking over a couple of things while trying to maneuver through the crowd in the casita. She saw her Abuela directing people, showing them where to put decorations. Mirabel walked toward her as Abuela turned around.
“Oh! Mirabel,” She said.
“Hola Abuela, I wanted to ask if there was anything I could do to help?” Many of the townspeople didn’t have gifts and they were helping, why not her?
“Gracias Mirabel, but today isn’t the best day. Everything must go perfectly. Let the familia do what they do best.”
“Si Abuela,” she said as she left. She decided to check on Antonio and then probably go back to the nursery. Antonio ran up to Mirabel and showed off the suit that he got. She smiled and told him that he looked very grown up. Then she went back to the nursery, soon it would be just her room. It was weird without Tonito’s bed next to hers. She could barely remember what it was like before she shared a room with Antonio. She was worried that they would grow apart like she and Camilo did when he left. Little did she know that Antonio wouldn’t let that happen in a million years. She stayed on her bed and sketched in her notebook waiting for it to be time to leave. She left the room early though, so she could see the progress. It brought back memories of her ceremony, but she just shook them away. Pretending they weren’t there in the back of her head. About five minutes before the ceremony was going to begin, nobody could find Antonio, but Mirabel knew where he would probably be. She went to the nursery and grabbed his gift that was wrapped.
“You know they’re waiting for you,” she said playfully. She dropped her present to the floor,
“If you don’t grab this present it’s going to self-destruct in five, four, three, two…” A little arm came out and grabbed the present. He opened it to find a stuffed jaguar, which he hugged tightly. She joined him under the bed.
“What’s wrong mi hombrecito?”
“I’m scared, what if I don’t get my gift?” he asked.
“Well first, it’s not going to happen. You’re going to go out there and touch that candle and open the brightest door anyone has ever seen! But if that happened in that impossible scenario, you would be stuck with me and I could keep you all to myself.” She said as she squeezed him.
“Gracias Mirabel.”
“Anytime Tonito.” Casita started flipping the boards, letting them know it was time to go. Mirabel gave him one last hug and took Antonio to his madre y padre.
Antonio looked out at the candle nervously, he couldn’t do this. He was too scared. He saw Mirabel off to the side and held out his hand. She whispered to him saying,
“I can’t” but he whispered back,
“I need you.” She couldn’t say no to him, so she grabbed his hand.
“Come on, let’s get you to your door.” She walked him straight to Abuela and the candle as he held on tightly to her arm. Memories of her ceremony flashed before her, but she refused to let them affect her. This was Tonitos night, she wasn’t going to ruin it, no matter what. Abuela smiled at him.
“Will you serve this community in strength and hope?” He nodded and then he touched the candle. He walked over to his door and put his hand on the doorknob. The door shined as a Tucan squawked at him on his shoulders.
“Uh-huh uh-huh, I understand you” The toucan squawked again.
“Of course, they can come!” Animals went straight to him, and his picture appeared on the door. Mirabel looked in awe, she was so proud of him.
“We have a new gift!” Abuela announced as the crowd cheered. Everyone began to dance and cheer, exploring Antonio’s new room. Abuela called for a family photo, and everyone gathered around and smiled. Everyone except for Mirabel that is. Her smile faltered, she should’ve expected this. She didn’t want to risk ruining the mood, so she walked out into the halls of the casita. She walked around, singing about how she felt. It ended solemnly as she saw a crack in the floor, she picked up the broken floor tile and then dropped it when it scratched her.
“Casita?” Cracks formed around the walls and Mirabel panicked. She ran straight towards her Abuela, and tapped on her shoulder,
“Can I please talk to you?”
“Not now Mirabel, we’re celebrating.”
“It’s important.”
“What’s so important that you have to interrupt your primos party?”
“I saw cracks on the walls of Casita, and I panicked and ran here.” She said quietly to not cause panic, she knew her Abuela liked to keep the public happy. Abuela excused herself and Mirabel took her to where she saw the cracks. The cracks were gone though, even the broken tile on the floor.
“Really Mirabel?”
“I’m not lying, I got cut on my hand by a broken piece of tile, see?” She held up her hand. Abuela just shook her head.
“Just because tonight was hard for you doesn’t mean you get to make things up for attention. That’s enough. Go get an arepa from your Mami and don’t tell anyone.”
“Si abuela,” she said through gritted teeth. She was frustrated, tired, and sad. Despite how she felt, she would never try to ruin Tonito’s night. Her mami gave her a hug and told her that she should get some rest. She dragged herself back to her room the nursery and curled up in a ball against the wall while sitting on her bed. She held her knees to her chest and just cried. There was no Tonito to worry about, he was busy with his party. It was probably too loud for Dolores to hear her, though even if she did Mirabel doubted she would come. She leaned her head against the wall, tears streaming down her face. Her thoughts were out of control.
‘Idiot, why would you ruin Tonito’s night?’
‘You’ll never make your familia proud.’
‘They hate you, at least when they remember you exist.’
‘You’d be better off gone.’
‘Maybe you just weren’t good enough for a gift.’

Beauty and the beast au tidbits @gamerbearmira
*Antonio is basically the chip of the household. As the baby of the family, almost all of the members have their ways of entertaining him.
Camilo and Bruno tell him stories and act them out with Bruno's rats. Felix also helps by doing shadow puppets. He acts as a stage light.
Julieta makes him treats and teaches him how to make some. Isabela has been keeping them alive for the ones who are still capable of eating by learning to grow crops instead of just flowers. She lets him help harvest them.
Luisa has tea parties with him and Pepa tries to do cloud watching with him.
Agustin taught him how to play piano and Dolores tells him about animals in the jungle.
Also because of the curse, some of the gifts have been limited. Dolores can only hear loud things at night, Isabela can only grow on Casita's property
Also on the 6th of the month they're completely giftless

I Don’t Want A Miracle
Camilo watched as his family stood proudly around Antonio, all displaying their Gifts. He was furious that they didn’t wait for him, even when he called out to them. Bruno mustn't have heard him, and Antonio was having the time of his life, so he could understand them.
But for the rest ? No excuse. They wanted to exclude Camilo because he was “ungrateful” and “didn’t deserve to be in a picture with los Madrigals”.
They haven't grown up since his ceremony at all. Still stuck in time apparently.
Time slowed down, and the song began as he slowly walked to them with a mirthless smile.
I’m not upset, or even mad
I don’t regret, or feel sad.
I chose this path among the Madrigals
That doesn’t mean I am not special
Yet they don't seem to feel the same
I love them, there’s no shame
Moving all the mountains
Making cloth or flowers bloom
Not for me, I can stay in my room
Without aaaa-ny miracles.
I can’t heal injuries
Making visions or prophecies
I love to be seen as me, for all I do
I don’t want a miracle, I don’t need to
I am not all aloooone
I am not monotoooone…
I shine with all my colors
I’m an actor, a painter, a tailor
I can show my talents
If you give me the moment
So give it to me right now
Look at me now, look at me now, look at me noooow !
Seeing the future
Healing what is broken
I’m already pure
But all you see is a bad omen
I don’t want any magic
I have enough magic
Under my mask, I am enough
I don’t need you, any of you
I am me, can’t you just see that ?!
I am special when’ver I’m on my own
I don’t want that Miracle that
Everyone is depending ooooooonnnn !!!
Why would I want a miracle ?

Pariah AU | Starting of a disaster | P1
Julieta shouldn’t have been surprised when Mirabel vanished, and the hours searching had been painfully long; thousands of worries and concerns, the ever-growing feeling of dread that something could quite easily happen to her child… lost in the woods if she went too far.
No one had ever wandered too far and the sight of the mountain split… it was all to easy now for someone to slip away and she wasn’t sure if anyone would survive this far out. Abuela had said the landscape had shifted to the point that…leaving was easier then returning.
Magical design to keep out outside visitors.
Agustín’s hand remained enclosed as their steps crunched through the rubble of their home. Her home of 50 years; her entire life was in shambles.
This felt like her fault.
A domino effect.
“I need to tell her.” Julieta whispered as she sunk to rest onto a fallen pillar, her hands coming to her knees, fingers gripping the dusty blue fabric anxiously, the settled dust no longer weighing in her lungs but she felt the pressure of guilt press far more heavily, “She needs to know.”
“Mi Amor…” Agustín sat down beside her, an arm enveloping around her that tugged her close.
Julieta shifted against him, her head coming to his shoulder. The soft breeze of the early morning air tickling at her cheeks as her eyes fluttered shut.
“She’ll hate me.” Julieta feared because… how could she not after what she had been through. Sparing her daughter a gift had landed her into a much more complex situation. If Mirabel had been spared a gift naturally, she didn’t see her mother changing because she didn’t even know.
“Mi vida, you know our daughter; she’s a forgiving girl.”
Julieta licked her dry lips, fingers unknotting and knotting into her apron, feeling the weight of the candle’s remains in her pocket still. “I robbed her of a gift, Agustín… how can she forgive me for that?” She whispered “I thought I was sparing her the weight of expectations… now look where that’s gotten us. Homeless. Giftless.”
Neither of them noticed Camilo slinking away with a frown on his face with furiously pink cheeks.
Agustín’s touch rubbed at her arm soothingly, his lips pressing against her forehead. “It…won’t be easy but you know I’ll help you through it. Once it’s out in the open… you don’t have to carry it anymore.”
Julieta inhaled deeply. “I hope so. I have a lot to make up for.”
“Talk to your mother first… if anything that’s a good place to start before we tell Mirabel.”
“Dolores knows.” Julieta reminded, “She…. She heard me that night.” It hadn’t occurred to her until after by Dolores’s expression but the girl had never said anything. Julieta had told herself many times that Dolores understood her reasoning; understood the weight that came with gifts.
“Maybe that’s a good thing.” Agustín mused.
Julieta’s eyes flickered open, peering up at him with a dry look.
“I mean, she can probably… mention it to Pepa and Felix about the concept; might make their responses a bit easier.”
“Hm..” He wasn’t wrong, Julieta realised but Dolores’s filter was always dodgy if dinner had been anything to prove…. But the girl had kept her secret for the last ten years so she wasn’t going to judge too sharply on a slip-up. Maybe it was best to leave Dolores to her side of the family and Julieta could handle hers.
Julieta had been reluctant to stand around so they had begun to look through the rubble of anything of salvage. Abuelo’s portrait had been damaged but Julieta felt relief to see the majority of the damage was to the frame and background canvas; her mother would be pleased.
A small portion of Clothes, food; the kitchen table was as solid as ever. Mirabel’s sewing machine took a beating but it stood on the table with their salvaged belongings.
Slowly, the family began to trickle back to Casita but Julieta’s heart dropped to see each one come back without her daughter.
“She’ll come back.” Felix assured, patting her arm as she led him and Pepa to a small table where someone had dropped off some food. “Your mother’s still out there.”
“Alone?”
“Mama’s not going to wander off too far.” Pepa spoke, picking up a few of the arepas. “Camilo, Antonio. Come get food.” She called out sharply.
The two were standing around; not sure what to so with themselves, well Antonio was while Camilo was looking downright furious, arms folded across his chest and cheeks flushed , kicking one of the pebble. This seemed to make Antonio look more confused at his brother but thankfully both came when called.
Julieta offered them a plate with a smile.
Antonio happily took but Camilo downright snatched with a glare her way.
“Camilo!” Pepa was quick to jump on his attitude with a look of thunder given the lack of her cloud. “You do not snatch!”
Camilo’s eyes lingered in Julieta before his jaw tightened. “Sorry.” His tone seemed to suggest otherwise that seemed…targeted as his gaze lingered onto her.
Julieta frowned, her eyes flickering to Pepa in confusion at his sudden attitude. Pepa set her plate down, Felix following after but both converged onto their son and led him away with hushed voices
“What’s that all about?” Antonio wondered.
Julieta swallowed but frowned as both her sister and Felix looked to her sharply with confused looks. It made her mouth feel dry and her stomach feel queasy; like they knew something but… no Dolores wouldn’t have told them. Camilo wasn’t the one to be trusted to know secrets so Dolores wouldn’t have told him; they hadn’t even asked Dolores yet…
Agustín’s hands pulled her attention away, pushing an arepa into her hands. “You should eat, Corazon.”
Her eyes flickered to the baked good before gingerly taking it, offering her husband a tight smile and took a nervous nibble but it only seemed to dry her mouth out more. Her appetite disappearing quickly with each chew.
“She’s back!”
The calls were distant but Julieta zoned in immediately and abandoned Agustín and the half-eaten arepa. The low haze of anxiety lifting with hope that burst into happiness as she set her gaze onto her daughter’s face.
“Mirabel!” her feet carrying her and before she knew it Mirabel was in her arms; her breathing ticking at her skin, seeping warmth into her shirt and arms locking around her middle;
Mirabel was back.
Safe.
“Ma, I’m fine.”
“I was so worried.” Julieta swallowed, pulling away, her fingers coming to cup her cheeks. “We couldn’t find you.”
Mirabel looked…tried but she was unhurt. Nothing had appeared since and now she was back. But her eyes looked lighter. Julieta’s hand dropped to clutch Mirabel’s hands, scared for a moment that she might disappear
“I’m sorry Mama.” Mirabel replied, squeezing her hand back. “I shouldn’t have run.”
“It’s okay.” She lent forwards, kissing her daughter’s cheeks. “As long as you’re okay, that’s all what matters.”
Mirabel nodded though they were interrupted as a new figure moved into view.
A second relief to see her mother well and looking far happier, despite their circumstances. Their family was almost as whole as it had been. Minus one important figure but she had no time to unpack those thoughts.
“The Guzman’s had dropped us some food while we were searching.” Julieta spoke, “we should eat and… and think of what we should do next.”
There was mutual agreement towards the table but Julieta’s good mood changed as Camilo beelined straight to Abuela as the groups moved; Felix seeing him last second but the world seemed to fade into slow motion as Camilo whispered to Abuela.
Abuela’s face morphed from her calm, relieved demeanour into confusion but that didn’t last long before her face turned stony, expression firming to mask the welt of emotion that shone in her eyes.
“Camilo!” Felix’s voice pulled Camilo away but the damage was done.
Abuela’s eyes rose and Julieta felt her inside coil as she met her gaze and for a moment, she felt like a little girl again, facing down her mother’s wrath for accidently knocking down her papa’s portrait that almost got torn when she was four. Small and alone. Her blood was the loudest thing in her ears and her breath second as she tried to breathe.
“Is this true?” Abuela didn’t shout, but she may as well have from the lack of emotion in her voice.
Julieta felt the gazes of her family, of Mirabel’s hands in hers, which seemed to ground her back to reality and she blinked, coming back to her body. Her mouth remained dry and her stomach filled with butterflies, she was sure her hands were shaking.
“Go eat food. Now.” Julieta let her go, Agustin stepping in and pulling their confused daughter away but Julieta stayed still not meeting her mother’s eye as Abuela got closer, her breath seething and she could already picture the smoke.
“Is this true?”
“Is what true?” Julieta swallowed. She didn’t know what Camilo did but… she had to make sure they were going to argue about the same thing. Was she stalling? Probably.
“You interfered with Mirabel’s gift ceremony.” This was not spoken hardly, but it was sharp. Leaving no room for loopholes that Julieta could see.
She swallowed thickly, taking a breath that seemed to waver in her inhale, her fingers gripping her apron again. “I… I didn’t want her to be overworked like the rest of us. I… made a decision for her best interest.”
Abuela’s face morphed from neutral to furious in a heartbeat. “Her best interest? Look around, Julieta! Our home is gone!”
“We can rebuild, Mama.” Julieta spoke back, “The Magic shouldn’t have been at the expense of our family. I couldn’t stop the weight on Luisa is Isabela but I thought I could spare Mirabel that weight.” But reality wasn’t kind to allow her that; not with how her mother saw it.
“Ma? What’s going on?” Mirabel’s voice was quiet but now, with no walls it occurred that now their conversations had carried.
“Tia Julieta is the reason you didn’t get your gift, Mirabel!” Camilo called, his face less pink and furious but there was a displeased glint in his eye. “She must have done something to the magic.”
Pepa grabbed Camilo by the ear, hissing angrily at him as she began to pull him away again, this time Pepa didn’t stop a few meters away but onwards through the town.
“Mami?” Mirabel blinked, “What did…what did you do?”
Julieta felt adrift in the haze of silence the ranged, Agustín’s hand coming to Mirabel’s shoulder but his face was lit with caution and concern. It took a moment to find her voice, drifting away from the furious figure of her mother to her youngest.
Mirabel’s face had lost colour, brown eyes wide and glistening but there was a sense of…need.
“I’m… I’m sorry, Mirabel.” Julieta spoke, “All I did was…talk to the candle. I didn’t want you to have the burden that comes with gifts. I didn’t know if it’d work…”
“I… I was supposed to have a gift.” Mirabel realised, eyes widening. “I… I would have gotten a gift that night if—“ She stopped sharply, inhaling deeply.
“Corazon…” Julieta reached forwards but Mirabel stepped back, looking like she had been winded with this information, the movement; the clear rejection piecing into her chest and heart but Julieta ignored that icy feeling “I didn’t do it to hurt you, Mi Vida. Never to hurt you.”
Mirabel’s eyes welled up but shook her head at her, stepping away as she tried again to comfort her baby. “I was supposed to have a gift…” that was what Mirabel was fixated on, but another, pollen covered hand pushed her away.
Isabela’s expression looked shocked but took control in pulling Mirabel away from her and Agustín and began to lead her away and Julieta didn’t have the strength of will to fight her on that.
“What’s going on?” Antonio’s small voice echoed but no one could answer him. Julieta wanted nothing more than the ground to swallow her up as Abuela seemed to straighten up with a new expression.
Disappointment.
Which was worse than anger. Julieta wanted anger because that burned out quickly. Disappointment was long-lasting and Julieta felt sick to her stomach to be at the end of it; to being the cause of it.
She was a terrible mother, wasn’t she?
Due to Tumblr’s incompetence, they’ve terminated my original blog where all my old drabbles were stored and it’s now weeks of hearing nothing. I’ve opted to repost all of them onto the reboot blog

For the giftless grandkids (minus Antonio) au-
Luisa works as a construction worker? (Or something that has to do with building things.)
Isabela is a botanist and/or owns a flower/paint shop. It’s up to you.
Dolores could possibly be a librarian. It’s simple, quiet, and doesn’t require much work. Unless you think she would be fit for something else.
Mirabel is learning how to be an embellisher. (reference to your HC).
Camilo is a theater kid, always will be. Probably learning how to be an actor and make costumes and such.
Camilo used to drag Mira into helping him finish up detailing his costumes and outfits. Or just ask her about what she would put here or there and do it himself instead. After a while he bothered her less and figured things out himself but they still hang out.
(And sorry if this doesn’t align with your perception of Camilo but I HC that he likes making clothes. Especially outfits for his family and costumes for his plays. Yes, he’s lazy. He will give up if a project it’s a bit much too much. But if buddy can chase kids around all day in canon I do think he can have energy to make clothes in an au)
I’m not entirely sure what to do for angst. Do you think Alma would still pressure Isa into being perfect/marrying mariano?
I’m assuming we’re dropping the royalty idea then? Because obviously none of them would be working in that case. And I’m going to assume we’re in the canon setting as well for this.
Completely agree!
Luisa would definitely work in construction. She’s a huge construction nerd in canon, so getting to do that right off the bat? Amazing! She probably still helps out a lot around town, especially without a gift, I can imagine she still is a bit of a workaholic.
Mirabel, once old enough, would definitely be hired by a local seamstress as an embellisher. She wouldn’t be getting any of the credit, but I think she would rather it that way. She wouldn’t want to be swarmed by people or anything. Probably unintentionally lets herself be treated unfairly by her boss subsequently.
The other three? Not so much. People forget that this is a small, rural town, that hasn’t modernised beyond the 1890s:
Flower shops weren’t a thing in such areas yet. (Flower shops originated in 1875 and only got popular in later years). There may be a small market stand or two for bouquets in Encanto, but that would be about it. Most people would just pick flowers or grow their own in their gardens. Besides Isa would rather work with more interesting plants than flowers anyways
Though libraries have been around for thousands of years, the chances of Encanto having one are very slim. There would just be bookshops. And it would be very different from what we know in the present day. Bookshops were fairly small and just ran by the owner, there wasn’t a need for more employees
Encanto probably has a small, local theatre (that is probably used for other things in the “off season”), but it wouldn’t be active so frequently. Jobs would be few and far between, as it would only be used every so often. Costume designers wouldn’t really a thing as there would be much budget for it. Costumes and props were just collected from people’s own belongings, things rarely would have been specifically made
If Isabela were to have a vaguely nature related job, she’d most likely work as a fieldworker on another family’s farm. That would be the best source of pay and most in demand job. If we don’t force her into a nature related job at all, I could see her being a dance teacher for children. (As dance was a lot more common practice back then). She wouldn’t overly enjoy it the same way Luisa and Mira would enjoy theirs because teaching children isn’t something I think Isa cares about, but dance is something within her skill set.
Considering how musical she is, it is fair to say that Dolores would definitely pursue a music related career. Either joining a local band/orchestra or being part of a choir or playing the church organ, etc. There would be a lot of option. I can imagine that she takes one of the aforementioned jobs, but secretly would rather be out and composing her own music than doing this. Not that she dislikes it per se, but she would want to make something herself.
Camilo would probably still be an actor, but definitely would need a second job to keep himself going. Looking at his skill set and interests, working with children is something he’d really enjoy. It’s already canon. He probably still does a lot of babysitting; people are always going to have children, so he’d always be needed. He is the Mary Poppins of Encanto, if you will.
In question to Abuela marrying them off? I think she still would - more children may equal more gifts. But I don’t think she’d be as set on making it happen right now. I’m sure she’d be convinced to wait a few years before trying to marry Isabela (and later the others) off. Antonio would be the only one she’d want to make a truly spectacular marriage.

I love your giftless sisters au, and I have my own little ideas for it if you don't mind. I like to believe the miracle saw how overworked Julieta was and decided her first daughter wouldn't get a gift, hoping it would show Alma the pressure she put on her, obviously it didn't work so the miracle tried once again to show she was overworked by not giving her second child a gift either, that didn't work either, so the miracle stepped back to think of another strategy, it saw how now there was even MORE pressure on not just Julieta, but Pepa and her children as well, and after seeing how the pressure increased on Camilo after he got his gift, the miracle made a decision, NONE of the children would get gifts from now on, I know it's implied that Antonio will get his gift, but I love the idea that the miracle sees how the gifts are causing so much stress and the giftless sisters are happier then their cousins, so the miracle decides there will be no more gifts given until Alma lays off the pressure, I also like the idea that when Antonio doesn't get a gift and Alma inevitably starts panicking, pointing fingers and overworking everyone even more, the gifted Madrigals gradually start losing their gifts, not like the house is breaking and the miracle is dying like in canon, but the miracle has finally had enough of Alma's bs and realizes it will need to take extreme measures to make her see what she's doing to her family, I really like the idea of the miracle consciously deciding to withhold and take away gifts instead of the magic getting weaker, once all issues are resolved the gifted Madrigals will get their gifts back, but I'm not sure if the sisters or Antonio should get gifts too, I like the idea of one or two people (possibly Bruno because we all know he'd be happier without his gift) remaining giftless and the Madrigal family continuing to have a few giftless members (although without the traumatic door fading, they would still get rooms) through the future generations as a reminder not to overwork the family and that their gifts do not define them as people, although the sisters all getting gifts as a reward for their perseverance and helping the family would also make sense, but I do like to believe at the end of the day if they don't get gifts they at least get magic rooms. I'm not sure if that's how you want the au to go, it's your au and you can do what you want with it, but I think it would be a cool way for the au to go
ooh, these are great ideas! I'll probably use some of them.
