The comments are about how this episode of Extreme Ghostbusters ends with Janine kissing Egon—and random YouTube fans support the ship!!
“Janine tries to make Egon jealous, but her date turns out to be a bug demon who wants to turn her into his queen!” — Ghostbusters Wiki.
Basically, Janine was trying to get Egon’s attention to go out to a trendy dinner, but he wanted to focus on work in the lab. Instead, Janine gets tricked by a demon and becomes a giant bug.
At the end of the episode, Kylie encourages Egon to “let Janine know your true feelings.” At first he says that he needs her as an office manager…and then he says that he loves her. That breaks the spell and lets Janine destroy the demon and return to her normal self. She passionately kisses Egon and tells him to remember that the next time she invites him to dinner. Perplexed, Egon wonders aloud if Janine actually has a crush on him. Kylie says that maybe Egon should ask her on a date to find out.
Anytime I wonder if I’m delulu about this ship, I’ll remember that actual sanctioned Ghostbusters media in the 90s was supporting Janegon! It’s obvious in this episode that Egon loves Janine but is clueless when it comes to recognizing her romantic overtures.
It’s a kids’ cartoon, so obviously this is innocent fun and meant to be funny. But it’s clear in this episode and others that Egon and Janine are meant to be together. The lesson is that they need each other, especially that Egon needs Janine more than he realizes.
Janegon—an eternal ship!

Only 5 films ( Dune: Part Two, Godzilla x Kong, Kung Fu Panda 4, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, and Ghostbusters) have earned over $100M in the domestic box office so far in 2024.

In his new Longreads essay, Colin Dickey reconsiders the movies Ghost and Ghostbusters, viewing the films through the lens of the pandemic’s influence on New York City.
In Ghost and Ghostbusters, the city and its multitudes are just the backdrop from which the narrow few protagonists emerge. But the reason I’m drawn to ghost stories is precisely because by its very nature the ghost blurs the edges of the individual. It flickers. It is and is not any kind of identity. It is and is not the subject of its own story. There’s possibility there.

No RGB episode pisses me off like “Cry Uncle” because DUDE. Oh my god.
Tumblr media
First off, I cannot stand uncle Cyrus. He comes into his 29 year old nephew’s life (mind you, he has a house, a job and is perfectly content with it) and straight away tells him that his life’s work is not real and he should abandon everything to work for him. Like?? Who asked you?? Clearly you haven’t been in contact with him for a while because Egon has been doing parapsychology since university, so what right do you have to appear now and act all high and mighty? Not even mentioning how effortlessly rude he is to the rest of the guys even when they treat him politely. RGB better than me, I would’ve told him to get out immediately.
Second is how quickly Egon agrees to the whole “quit your job, join my laboratory” thing just because uncle Cyrus says he will be disappointed if Egon doesn’t. Again, he’s a grown man, and any other in his place would’ve told their uncle to kindly leave. The only reason why he might act the way he does is if he was raised that way. He mentions in “The Devil To Pay” that his parents were perfectionists and I imagine he might have developed a “I have to comply and be useful to not upset my family” mindset from being raised in such an environment, hence such strange decision that he knows will make him unhappy. He prefers to be hurt himself than to upset his uncle, like that’s lowkey insane.
Third is how heartbroken the rest of the team are at him leaving. I have no idea how they survived a 6-year separation between RGB and EGB because Egon was gone for one (1) day and they already were clawing at the walls and made 1,500 miles one way to ask him to come back without even being sure he’d agree. Like. Guys. They love each other so much it’s actually insane.
Overall, I LOVE this episode. It’s beautifully done, it uncovers some more of Egon’s psyche and highlights how strong the team’s relationship is. That they aren’t just colleagues or friends, they are a family.
That is to say, I’d still like to hit uncle Cyrus with hammers.

The cast of Frozen Empire was interviewed on CBS Mornings, and this exchange (starting around 6:20) had me cracking up:
Ernie Hudson: I'm just so honored and thankful to [...] get a chance to work with THE SEXIEST MAN IN THE UNIVERSE!
Paul Rudd: Dan Aykroyd!
Dan: That's being transferred today! He's giving that to me now, and I'm gonna take that mantle and move on with it.
Interviewer: Own it, Mr. Aykroyd!
Dan: Yeah, 260 pounds of heft!
Paul: Sexy heft.
Dan: Yes, you bet.
