Playing Ghost Recon: Future Soldier and on the second level, I nearly got to the end of the mission without killing a single civilian... and I shot one by accident right before the end of the mission.
Gah.

This is just a little thing I wrote after being inspired by the AI Cover Swing - Simon "Ghost" Riley. I hope you enjoy! Look forward to more COD fics in the future. (Especially König, my beloved)
Music cascaded through the dimly lit club as the scent of cigars filled the air. Y/N stood near one of the several bars situated throughout the establishment, dressed in a sleek black button-up and black trousers that hugged his form. The Private's eyes scanned over the mass of dancing bodies, the earpiece he wore buzzing to life before Price's voice invaded his senses.
"Alright, men. Gather any intel you can manage about the Narcos deal with Russia. Keep a low profile. We meet up at midnight."
With that, Y/N pushed away from the bar with a drink held in his hand as he ventured through the crowd. He would be lying if he didn't say he was nervous. This was his first big mission after joining Task Force 141, and he was determined to make an impression. Out of the corner of his eye, he spotted Gaz casually chatting with a stunning woman with his arm slung across her shoulders. The older soldier caught his gaze over her shoulder before nodding, the smile returning to his face as he engaged the woman again.
Y/N situated himself in a far corner of the club, hoping to get a better vantage point of the bustling crowd. His ear pricked at the sound of hushed voices exchanging words back and forth in Spanish.
"Fucking gringos. Why the fuck is Valeria even making a deal with these idiots."
Y/N's eyes narrowed at the sound of the infamous Sin Nombre's actual name, casually bringing the glass of scotch to his lips and taking a sip. The liquor burned in his throat and warmed his body as it slid down to settle in his belly. Bingo.
"Keep it down. Do you want to get your shit kicked in by one of Makarov's men?"
Y/N clenched his jaw as he fought the creeping tension gathering in his shoulders. This mission was intended to be recon only, but this might be stickier than planned. He tossed his head back, downing the remainder of his drink before setting the empty glass down on a nearby table with a clink.
Y/N took a deep breath, steeling himself for what was to come. He knew he had to act fast if they were going to gather any helpful information before the night was over. He scanned the room once more, taking note of the exits and the location of his team members. He spotted Soap near the dance floor, blending in with the crowd effortlessly as he gathered intel. He was glad to have experienced soldiers like Soap and Gaz on his team.
As Y/N made his way toward the group of men speaking in Spanish, he couldn't help but feel a twinge of fear in his gut. What if he got caught? What if he blew his cover? But he pushed those thoughts aside, reminding himself of his training and the importance of this mission.
He approached the group with a confident stride, his expression neutral. "Excuse me, gentlemen. Mind if I join you?" he said in flawless Spanish, a small smile playing on his lips. The men looked him up and down, sizing him up before one of them spoke up.
"What do you want?" he said, eyeing Y/N suspiciously.
Y/N kept his cool, "Just some friendly conversation. I couldn't help but overhear your discussion about El Sin Nombre's deal with Makarov. Care to share any more details?"
The men looked at each other, weighing their options before one of them spoke up. "Why should we trust you?"
Y/N took a step closer, his eyes locking with the man's. "Because I'm a businessman, just like you. And I know a good deal when I see one."
The men exchanged a few more words in Spanish before one of them leaned in and whispered something in Y/N's ear. Y/N nodded, his heart pounding in his chest as he made mental notes of everything he was hearing.
As the group dispersed, Y/N returned to the bar, his mind racing with the information he had gathered. He needed to warn the others before things got out of hand. His eyes swept over the club before settling on a familiar masked face.
The Private pushed his way through the crowd of swaying bodies as he approached the edge of the dance floor. Y/N stopped a few feet from the Lieutenant, suppressing a snicker at the large man's appearance. He was dressed in an outfit much similar to his own, with the addition of a surgical-style skull mask covering half of his face. His tousled blonde hair was slicked back with gel. Even from where he stood, he could see the outline of his powerful muscles where the button-up clung to him.
Y/N was used to seeing the Brit dressed in his standard tactical gear, so seeing him dressed like this was almost funny. Ghost's eyes narrowed at the sound, turning to face the nearby Private. He approached the shorter male in a few quick strides as the current song faded out.
Y/N shook his head, the smile tugging at his lips faltering as he looked up at him. He needed to stay focused on the mission.
"LT, I gathered intel on a possible meeting. Sounds like Valeria and Makarov are going to gather here tonight."
Riley's eyes flickered between the people surrounding them as trumpets blared, signaling the beginning of the next song. Y/N nearly jumped out of his skin as a rough, calloused hand wrapped around his wrist. "Blend in."
"What-?" The Private's words stuck in his throat as his superior tugged him onto the dance floor. "Just follow my lead."
Ghost's hand lifted to rest on his waist as his other hand slid down to capture Y/N's hand in his. The Private's eyes widened in surprise as he stuttered up at the larger man.
"S-Sir, I don't know how to-"
Y/N stumbled a bit as Ghost led him onto the dance floor but soon found his footing as the rhythm of the music took hold of him. As they moved together, Y/N couldn't help but feel a spark of excitement coursing through him. The way Ghost moved was like nothing he had ever seen before, his body fluid and graceful as he led Y/N in a passionate dance.
The Private's heart pounded in his chest as he looked up into Ghost's eyes, feeling a connection between them that he couldn't explain. Ghost's eyes never left Y/N's as they moved together, their bodies pressed close as they swayed to the music.
Y/N let out a breathless laugh as Ghost spun him by his hand, jumping as another set of hands gripped his hips. Suddenly, he found himself pressed against a different body, looking up at the smirking face of Sergeant "Soap" MacTavish. "Evening, Private. Can I have this dance?"
The Private's voice was caught in his throat, unable to answer as Soap's hands moved to wrap his arms around his broad shoulders before returning his own hands to Y/N's hips.
Soap wasn't nearly as graceful with his movements as Ghost's, swaying their bodies together to the rhythm of the music. The smirk on the Sergeant's face never faltered as their feet shuffled against the floor. Y/N couldn't fight the smile that pulled at his own lips, finding his superior's playful nature infectious.
It wasn't long before Ghost's arms wrapped around him once more, pulling his back against his muscled body as he danced between the two men. "Alright, Y/N. Give us the low down." Ghost's gruff voice thrummed against his ear, slightly muffled by his mask. The Private struggled to find his voice with Soap's hand pressed against the small of his back while Ghost's hands rested on either of his hips.
"I-I'm not sure when or where, but it sounds like Sin Nombre and Makarov are meeting tonight. Overheard it from a few of Valeria's men."
Soap grunted in acknowledgment while his hips continued to sway in tandem with the other two men. "Doesn't sound too good. LT? What should we do?" Ghost hummed in thought, his intense blue gaze meeting the Sergeant's. "I'm not too sure, Johnny. Relay with Price and see what he thinks is the best move."
Soap released Y/N from his grasp, nodding his head to the two. He leaned down with a smirk as his eyes connected with the Private’s gaze, “Well, we’ll have to finish this another time then, won’t we?” before disappearing into the crowd. Ghost spun the Private in his hands, returning to their dancing position once again.
As the song reached its climax, Ghost spun Y/N around before dipping him low, their faces just inches apart. Y/N's breath caught in his throat as he looked up at the man who held him so effortlessly.
His chest heaved as he fought to catch his breath, his cheeks warming into a blush at the close proximity of Ghost's masked face. A crowd had gathered around them, watching the performance between the trio. There was a buzz of static in his ear before Price's voice came over the earpiece.
"So much for a low profile. Alright, lovebirds. Focus on the mission."
Ghost cleared his throat before lifting Y/N upright once more. His hand lingered on the Private's waist, if only for a moment, before he leaned down to speak against his ear. "Good work." The Lieutenant let his hand fall from the curve of Y/N's hip before pushing his way through the crowd of dancing bodies.
Y/N's heart pounded in his chest as he stood there, unable to process what had just happened. He shook the clouded thoughts from his mind before returning to the bar. He raised a hand to flag over the bartender, raising his voice to speak above the music that had begun to play once more. “Bossman, another scotch, if you will.”
Just as he was bringing the glass of his drink to his lips, Price’s voice sounded over the comms. “Evac in 10. Too many civilians to engage with the Narcos and Makarov’s men.” Y/n let out a sigh before tossing his head back and downing the scotch in one gulp, the liquor warming his body. The Private sighed as he pushed away from the bar and approached the club entrance, where he met up with the rest of his teammates. Gaz had a shit-eating grin on his expression while his eyes flitted between Ghost, Soap, and Y/N.
“Lose the smirk, Garrick.” Ghost’s rough voice barked as Soap lifted his hand to hide the laugh that escaped him. A large SUV pulled up just outside the doors and honked its horn. The group of soldiers filed out the door before climbing into the waiting vehicle. Y/N found himself between the two men for the second time of the night, his cheeks involuntarily warming with a blush as he was practically squeezed between their hulking forms.
Y/N dared a glance up at Ghost, noticing he was staring straight ahead, his face creased in its usual stoic and unreadable expression. He turned his head before looking up at the Scotsman on his other side, who caught his glance and winked slyly down at him. The Private cleared his throat and forced his eyes forward, his stomach clenching with nerves. The drive back to the base felt like it went on for an eternity; an odd tension crackling in the air between the Private and his superiors sat on either side of him. ---
Several days had passed since Task Force 141’s undercover mission, and Y/N found himself sitting in the briefing room as Captain Price discussed the next steps in their plan to infiltrate the deal between their enemies. His eyes were trained forward on his Captain as he spoke, paying close attention to his instructions before a quiet humming caught his attention. Wait. Is that what he thought it was? Y/N glanced over at Ghost, who sat a few seats away, the blue orbs of his eyes focused on his underling as he hummed. The Private could tell from the slight crinkle of Ghost’s eyes through the hole in his mask that he was smirking.
He blinked his eyes rapidly before turning his head back towards the front of the room. He must be imagining things. Just as he started paying attention to Price’s words once more, he heard it again. This time, the humming was accompanied by the sound of someone’s foot tapping against the tile floor. There’s no way this was actually happening.
Y/N turned his head to stare at the duo with an incredulous expression on his face. The Lieutenant was humming the melody of the song that they had danced to as Soap’s foot tapped the beat with his boot. The Sergeant’s lips tugged into a smirk once he saw that Y/N had noticed their actions. The Private’s cheeks burned even hotter as he forced his gaze forward again, desperately fighting to stay focused on the briefing.
Once the meeting was over, Y/N made his way into the common room of the barracks, settling down onto one of the couches with a sigh. He let his eyes fall closed as his head leaned back against the cushioned seat. This upcoming mission wasn’t going to be easy by any means and likely dangerous. He was determined to earn his place amongst the other soldiers on his team, so he would give it his best no matter what. His mind was so distracted that he didn’t notice when an all too familiar duo made their way into the room, only opening his eyes when a quiet click sounded from the corner of the room.
Music began to play from a speaker as Y/N sat up from his position on the couch, his eyes widening as he looked at his superior officers. “I said we’d have to finish this later, didn’t I?” Soap said, his voice laced with his thick Scottish accent. Ghost silently made his way to the couch, taking Y/N’s hand in his own before leading him into the middle of the room.
The Private’s voice caught in his throat, unable to form words aside from stuttering unintelligibly. The thoughts of the upcoming mission completely disappeared from his mind, only able to focus on the feeling of Ghost’s rough hand against his own as he lifted it up to wrap around his shoulder before doing the same with his other arm. The Lieutenant’s own hands shifted to rest on his hips, guiding them to sway to the sound of the music.
Shortly after, another pair of hands joined Ghost’s on his hips as he felt Soap’s body press warmly against his back. Y/N stammered as his cheeks burned hot yet again, overwhelmed by the closeness of his teammates. He could practically feel the warm breath of Soap’s words against the shell of his ear as he spoke. “Ya know, Simon and I have been talking. About that night..”
Ghost gave a slight nod of his head in agreement, his eyes staring intently down at Y/N as Soap continued, “We couldn’t help but notice how perfectly you fit between us when we were dancing..” Y/N’s mouth dropped open, unable to process the words that were being spoken. Soap’s lips moved to brush against the nape of his neck, goosebumps raising against his skin. The Private gulped loudly as a shiver ran through his body at the feeling of lips against his sensitive neck.
“So what do you say, kid?” Ghost finally spoke up, his gruff voice tinged with something that Y/N couldn’t read. The Brit leaned down, invading his personal space as the trio swayed to the beat of the music. “Wanna be our dancing partner?”
Soap’s lips brushed against his neck as he spoke again, his fingers tightening their grip on his hips, “Please, say yes.” Heat spread through Y/N’s body as he hesitated momentarily, mulling over his thoughts. Finally, he breathed in a trembling breath before nodding his head, “Y-yeah, alright.”
With that, Soap’s lips tugged into a smile before he began pressing kisses along Y/N’s neck and shoulders. Ghost chuckled deeply in his chest before releasing one hand from the Private’s hip, reaching up to push his mask just beneath his nose. His scarred lips were quirked into a smile of his own as he leaned down further, his eyes seeking permission in the Private’s eyes.
Y/N gave a minute nod of his head before Ghost’s lips pressed against his own in a slow kiss. Butterflies crashed around the Private’s stomach as he returned the kiss, wracking his brain. This didn’t feel real. Was he dreaming? Johnny’s voice whispered against his ear as the Lieutenant pulled away from the kiss. “My turn now.” The Sergeant’s gloved hand moved from his hip to cup the smaller male’s cheek, guiding his head to look over his shoulder as his lips pressed against Y/N’s. The prickle of his stubble rubbed against his chin as he returned the kiss once more.
Soap pulled away from the kiss with a smile, his hand returning to his hip as the song drew to an end; the three men lost in their own little world, even if only for the night.
“Stay with me, Sway with me.~”

“Falling In Love With You”
Master List
TW- Angsty, Maybe a Happy Ending, Main Character Death, Blood, Depression.
Another Love - Tom Odell
“You do know I’m not real.”
*she spoke softly hiding in the shadows*
“You’re very real to me Schatz”
König spoke softly and quietly while on watch.
“I’m not alive. I’m a ghost”
“I died a long time ago. But it’s weird how you’re the only one who can see me.”
A few months prior König and his fellow operators were moved to a different base. Upon arrival he noticed a woman wearing a different colored uniform still in her full gear. She carried a rifle on her back and she walked around base watching everyone. He took notice of this and realized no one noticed her. He decided to ask someone that was familiar with the base.
König was shocked that there was no female personnel on base.
But why was there a woman walking around base and no one saw her but him. So he pushed the thought to the back of his head and he wandered the halls when he saw pictures of former soldiers that had fallen before him. He spotted her picture and he glanced at her photo. When a voice was heard behind him.
“That was taken when I was stationed here. Only if I knew what the future held for me I wouldn’t have volunteered that day. But it’s what if’s at this point. Walking around here and seeing nothing recruits and other operators walking around and no one can see me.”
*the female voice scoffed and walked away*
“I can see you?”
She stopped in her tracks. She turned around to see who spoke. She saw the behemoth of a man that stood before her.
“You can see me?”
*she pointed to herself and looked around*
“Yes, my name is König”
König kept his introduction short. He wanted to talk with her. She was beautiful to him. He wanted to know more about her.
“You’re not lying you can see me?!”
She started to get excited but she stopped and reminded herself she died years ago. She smile to him and started to examine him.
“My name is (y/n) my call sign was “echo” when I was alive.”
“Why are you here if you’re not alive?”
“That’s a long story?”
“I have time today. Care to share your story.”
She lit up at his invitation to talk to him. She walked beside him and started to stutter a bit then she took a deep breath and exhaled and started to tell her story.
“I was stationed here I had a lot of experience in the field. I was a recon sniper and I was moving up in my ranks as the youngest one here. And I was the only female soldier here as well. I was training with some of my friends and my commander came up to us and asked for volunteers to take part in a recon mission that was gonna be a fly over. I volunteered that day and I got ready and had my rifle in hand. We had left and I should’ve known that what I was walking into was a trap. There was so many things that weren’t right.”
“As soon as we touched down there was my Commander standing with the enemy shaking his hand.”
“We were sold out and my fellow operators stood in the line of fire.”
“My best friend was killed instantly. I managed to crawl away a short distance I was bleeding out badly. I tried to call Captain Price. He was the only person I thought of in that moment. I managed to get through and notify him about what had happened and he immediately responded and told me hold on.”
“My Commander walked over to me and pressed his boot down on my chest wound. He pulled out my own gun and I closed my eyes”
“Everything went black. The sound of the gun echoing was the last thing I heard. I felt like I was floating. But drowning at the same time. I didn’t know that I died that day. It took me years to get pass it. And I’m stuck here. When I woke up I was laying outside the base still in my old uniform and I wake up like this everyday. I don’t know why I’m still here.”
“I walk around base looking at all the new faces and wishing I could join my fellow operators in the next life or to move on away from here.”
“All of my friends are dead.”
“They all died in the line of duty. Those pictures you were looking at, that was us.”
“I’m haunted by what happened to me I was only 26 when my life ended. I never had my first kiss or gone an actual real date or been intimate with someone. All of that was taken from me. Now I’m a lonely Ghost that walks around here. And I don’t creep on the guys when they shower. If you must know.”
“My life was cut short by betrayal. The man that got me killed is still alive out there somewhere. Here I am bound to walk this earth as a fucking ghost. He’s out there living his life.”
She started to cry in front of him. Wiping away her tears. She stopped and looked at him.
“Im sorry it just….it’s good I have someone who can see me and hear me.” “I haven’t talk to anyone for a long time. And I’m glad your still here listening to me.”
“I’m so sorry that happened to you. I can’t say anything to comfort you. And I’m sorry your life was cut short Schatz”
König felt sad for her. After listening to her story he felt a longing for her. He wished he had met her sooner. He could’ve protected her from the dangers that was bound to come across her path. Before he could speak to her again she disappeared.
Over the course of a few days she made her self scarce with her appearances.
König noticed she didn’t make her appearances. He was sad about it that she didn’t come out as often as he wanted.
But she was around she just hide herself from him. She had developed feelings for him. And she couldn’t see him because it made her feel uncomfortably sad.
She had heard about his mission and she had a bad feeling about it. So she decided to get aboard his plane and be there to protect him.
As the night fell she went into action. She stalked his team in the darkness and when the team decided to rest she took it upon herself to scout out the area. She saw that König and his team were walking into a trap if they proceeded further. She hated that would mean she would have to make an appearance. She walked over to his team and give him the warning. She hid in the shadows and she watched him.
“König”
*she spoke softly*
König was startled by her voice but he was happy to hear and see her again.
“Schatz”
“König please listen to me okay?”
“Don’t go any further there’s a trap laid out for you and your men. They will kill you all. Please don’t go any further. I had a bad feeling when you received your orders and I didn’t want you to die the way I did.”
“Please for me König”
“Okay, we’ll stay.”
König order his men they were gonna stay put and wait. They were a bit confused as why and so he ordered them to keep watch for any movement.
“Schatz tell me what’s wrong?”
“There are men waiting for you guys around the corner and a 4 snipers waiting in ahead they will have you all boxed in and no one is gonna make it out alive. So I had to warn you before you make the same mistake I made.”
König trusted her word and decided to move his men away to a safer location. He decided to call in a air strike on a more secured line.
König sat and waited for the air strike to come raining down on the coordinates that (y/n) gave him.
He was sitting in her snipers nest waiting. Then she spoke again.
“You do know I’m not real.”
*she spoke softly hiding in the shadows*
“You’re very real to me Schatz”
König spoke softly and quietly while on watch.
“I’m not alive. I’m a ghost”
“I died a long time ago. But it’s weird how you’re the only one who can see me.”
“You’re beautiful and I know it’s not right but I think I’m Falling In Love With You”
“You’re falling in love with me?”
“I can’t do that to you. I’m not alive and I can’t be in your life like the way you want me too. I don’t want to say it or admit it to you…… but I’m falling in love with you too König. I know it’s wrong.”
“Where were you buried? I can maybe visit your grave and leave flowers for you.”
“What kind of flowers do you like?”
“I was never buried actually my body was never accounted for on the recovery roster. Why wasn’t I accounted for?”
“Wait!?”
“Do you hear that!? It sounds like beeping and people talking?!”
She started to disappear.
“Welcome back (y/n)”
“What? Where am I?”
The blinding lights blinded her. She was sitting in a hospital. She looked around and at her hands and feet she touched the nurse. I’m alive.
“I have to find König”
She asked the nurse to give the base a message to König. The nurse took the message and passed it along to the base where König was arriving back. He was sad and heartbroken that she disappeared. He thought about her the entire way.
One of the recruits came running to the tarmac with the message in hand.
Once König read it he grabbed all of his gear and ran out to the barracks and put everything away and ran off base immediately to the hospital she was at.
He was breathing heavily as he entered the hospital looking for the nurses station and he asked about (y/n) the nurse gave him the information and he dashed off looking for her.
As soon as he got to her room she stood by the window hooked up to the IV stand. She was wearing a hospital gown and a bit skinner then what he saw. But that didn’t bother him but she was real and she was physically stand before him. He crept in slowly.
“Is this real?”
“Yes Schatz its real.”
“I’m alive”
She started to cry and König hug her from behind. Feeling her warm frail body against him. He never wanted anything more than this moment. She sobbed into his arms. He cradle her in his arms.
“All this time I thought I was dead. I was alive and half dead.”
“I can’t believe it. You’re actually here with me”
“I’ve Fallen In Love With You (Y/N)”
König brushed her hair out of her face as he leaned down to kiss her.

As Grim as the Reaper | Simon 'GHOST' Riley PREQUEL
Ghost x Reader, Graves x Reader
CHAPTER EIGHTTEEN
Phillip Graves x AFAB!Reader!OC 18+ MINORS DNI! t.w // angst, mental health, language, violence, death, sexual themes/SMUT, military inaccuracies, language inaccuracies (google translate).
As Grim as the Reaper: Masterlist
Standing in Shepherd's office, the booming voices were just a mumble.
Muffled, echoing.
You couldn't focus.
Your eyes stared forward, vision blurred, glazed over...
Numb.
"I want to know, why the hell that mission - that simple recon mission - turned into me sending four letters of condolence to families?!" Shepherd yelled.
Laswell was sat at the round table to the side of him, while you sat at the opposite end, Graves on the seat beside you.
Various other officials and tech workers who were involved in the mission were also present, but you couldn't care less.
You felt dead inside.
They replayed the footage, trying to pinpoint the faults, the blame, why Graves interpreted your words as permission to fire on a plan that you had no knowledge about whatsoever. Over and over, you watched the body cams, watching your team die, watching yourself fight to get to them.
All angles were covered, and it was agonising.
Silent tears had fallen and dried, leaving tight, stained streaks down your cheeks. But you didn't have the energy to wipe them away.
"What happened, sir, is your personal lap dog dropped a missile on them!" Laswell spat back, sending a glare to Graves.
"I followed orders!" he yelled back, turning to Shepherd for defence.
Laswell rubbed at her temple, looking between the two men, "I did not give you orders to fire on that. You knew as well as Echo 6 that this was recon only!"
"I gave those orders, Kate."
"What?"
"I gave Shadow Company the orders to fire on the warehouse in case of emergency. I did not, however, give permission for this to happen while our men were inside."
"Well, with all due respect, General, it fucking did." you spoke up, voice low and gravelly.
He turned to you, then. "And who's fault was that, hmm? If you weren't getting so god-damn hysterical about being ambushed then-"
You cut him off with an amused scoff, "Hysterical, sure. Giving my team a heads up as a dozen AQ soldiers flank 'em is so hysterical."
"Watch your tone, Lieutenant." he growled back.
"Sir, please." Graves interrupted, taking one of your hands in his, "Lieutenant Price has been through enough, may she be excused?"
You rolled your eyes, yanking your hand from his grip. You didn't miss the flash of hurt in his eyes as you pulled away, but you couldn't care less. You'd been listening to him deflect fault for nearly three hours.
To you, it was simple; he fired when he shouldn't have, and actions have consequences.
"No, Commander. She may not be excused from a meeting that concerns her, and her future here."
Laswell's head shot up, looking between you and Shepherd, "Her future?! What the hell is this?"
"Her team died on mission, she is the sole survivor. It needs to be investigated."
"Those orders need to be investigated! Not my girl!"
You rolled your eyes, happy to continue listening to every person in the room talk as if you weren't even there.
As long as you didn't have to say shit, that was fucking fine.
Have at it.
"Those were my orders, and I will not have you questioning my authority, Chief."
"Then what? This is done?" Graves spoke up.
Shepherd nodded, "For now. Internal Affairs are handling this matter now."
"Unbelievable." Laswell muttered.
You continued to sit silently, picking at a snagged bit of metal on your dog tags, eyes locked on the images of your team that graced the screens in front of you.
"Let me make this clear, the only reason she isn't being suspended or forced on leave right now is because she is an asset to us, and we need her. She's your responsibility, Kate. Make sure she gets sorted."
Laswell sighed, but nodded.
"Now, all of you, get the hell out of my office and back to work."
Laswell placed a soft hand on your shoulder, shooting you a small smile, "C'mon, sweetie. Let's get you out of here."
"Right." you replied, standing and gathering your things.
In your weakened state, you stumbled, sending your bag clattering to the ground, and few items pouring out. Graves stopped you, opting to bend down and collect them himself, before handing the bag back to you.
His hands had a slight shake to them, as if he didn't want to get to close to you.
He didn't want to break you more than you already were.
You gave him a watery smile, and he smiled back, taking that as a sign to step forward to place a soft kiss to your forehead before taking your hand in his, and leading you to the door.
"Not you, Graves."
He stopped beside you, hand still gripping yours tightly. "Sir, I would like to be with my fiancée right now. She needs me."
"I need you here, Commander." Shepherd replied.
Squeezing Graves' hand back, you looked at him with pleading eyes, begging him not to leave you. He threw you a sympathetic glance before he nodded, and turned to face his superior.
"Negative, sir. I need to be with her right now." Graves stood his ground, making your heart jump a little.
Shepherd did not take kindly to this, and you could tell by the way he snarled in your direction, pushing out his shoulders and approaching the three of you with thunderous steps.
"I will only say this once more...you are to stay here and do your job, that is a direct order."
You looked to Laswell, who mirrored your worried expression, which only worsened as Graves held his head high, hand gripping yours tighter as he stepped forward.
He was going to defy orders and risk his career.
Fuck.
"General-"
"Don't." you said as you stepped forward, free hand moving to rest on Graves' arm.
The sound of your voice made his head turn swiftly, bewilderment staring back at you. He turned to face you, mouth opening to argue before you cut him off.
"Stay here, it's fine. Laswell can take me home."
"But baby, you need me-"
"It's okay." you whispered, "I'll wait for you at home, okay? You're needed here. That's more important."
You scowled as you looked over Graves' shoulder, Shepherd meeting your gaze with a grin that oozed smugness.
With a frustrated sigh, he nodded, speaking as he turned to Shepherd, "Can I at least walk her to the lobby, sir?"
"By all means."
With that, no one else uttered a word, and you left the room.
The short walk to the lobby felt even shorter, knowing that Graves wouldn't be returning home with you. You'd be on your own, knowing Laswell couldn't stay. Your first time alone since it happened.
Your hands began to shake as anxiety bubbled, the dog tags in your fingers jingling with the motion. Graves rubbed soothing circles on the back of your hand that was gripped in his with his thumb, trying his best to both apologise, and comfort you.
By the time you reached the lobby, your breathing was shaky as you tried to push those feelings below the surface.
"Are you sure about this?" Graves said as he stopped you both, hands placed either side of your hips.
"I'm sure, Phillip. You're needed, don't want ya getting in trouble with that wanker."
He chuckled, brushing his nose on yours, "I love it when you get all British on me, baby."
The joke brought a smile to your face, which made Graves' wider.
He'd not seen you smile for days, and things were so weird between the two of you right now, he wasn't sure the relationship would make it through this.
"I'll get off as soon as possible, okay?" he said, thumb rubbing your cheek as you nodded, "You're the most important thing to me."
"Okay." you whispered.
Slowly, he leant down, placing a soft kiss to your lips. You didn't respond at first, unsure of how to feel, until his free hand slipped to your back, pulling you against him. Hesitantly, you began to kiss back.
When he pulled away, he smiled once more, before kissing your forehead and running back upstairs, his radio ringing with Shepherd's angry voice demanding his presence.
Laswell placed an arm around you, and began leading you to the door, until you stopped abruptly as the sound of a child echoed around the almost-empty room.
"But mommy! We're at daddy's work! Where is daddy? I wanna see daddy!"
"I know, sweetie, I'm s-sorry. Daddy...daddy isn't here."
"But why?! Mommy I miss daddy!"
"I miss daddy too- (Y/N)?"
You froze.
You knew you recognised those voices.
Turning to face them, stood before you was a woman and a small child, no older than five. The woman was beautiful, with gorgeous blonde curly hair, green eyes. The boy, however, was the spit of his father. Chocolate brown hair, piercing blue eyes.
"M-Maria?" you stuttered out, eyes wide.
"Oh, (Y/N)." she sobbed, before throwing her arms around you, holding you tight.
Slowly, you hugged back, until the two of you stood in the middle of the lobby, weeping.
"I-I'm so sorry I tried to help- I tried to save him I did I swear, Mar."
"Shhh," she spoke, rubbing a hand over your back, "I know you would have, it's okay. I don't blame you, honey, it wasn't your fault."
You pulled back, only to be almost knocked off your feet as a small force slammed into your legs, "Auntie (Y/N)!"
Wiping your tears, you laughed with Maria, before squatting down and greeting the child, "Hey little man, ya missed me?"
"Yeah!" he said, a wide smile across his cheeks as he flung his tiny arms around your neck.
With a nod from Laswell, you moved to a more private space, away from the lobby and the prying eyes. You watched as Maria settled her son with some toys, and Laswell set mugs of hot coffee in front of you.
A frown moved over your face as you saw the folded American flag poking out of Maria's bag - the standard offering for the families of fallen soldiers.
It wasn't hard to fall into comfortable conversation with her, after all, she was the wife of your second in command.
"I just...I don't know how to explain this to Charlie. He loves his daddy - I always knew the risks, always knew there was a chance Ryan wouldn't come back to me. But he's just a boy..."
You reached over, placing your hand over hers, "Stevens loved you both, more than anything. One day, Charlie will understand that. You were always the most important thing to him."
She nodded to you, appreciating the comfort.
"What about you?"
"What about me?"
"(Y/N)...you know I can see you're not okay, right?" Maria said, eyebrow raised.
You scoffed, "I got my team killed, Mar. Of course I'm not fucking okay."
"It was not your fault, you hear me? It wasn't. Accidents happen. This isn't on you, sweetie."
You shook your head, refusing to acknowledge her words.
It was your fault.
She looked at Laswell, who had the same solemn expression as they both looked to you, broken and bruised.
"I know he'd want you to have this. You call me, whenever. Charlie needs his badass Auntie, and I need the woman that my husband considered a sister."
Maria didn't say much more after that as she stood, collecting her things and calling her son to her side. Silently, she slid a small white square across the table, until it landed in front of you, and exited the room.
Wiping your eyes with a sniff, you picked it up.
A polaroid.
'Santa's little helpers!' the caption read, scrawled at the bottom in Orlando's horrendous handwriting.
The five of you stood with wide smiles, Santa hats and tinsel galore. It was an image of the Christmas spent helping the refugees in Iran. Your first official mission as a team, as a Lieutenant.
You couldn't help the sobs that broke out as you stared at their faces.

Januar 2024 in Kraft. Liste der betroffenen Spiele Spiel-Titel Plattform Assassin's Creed II Xbox 360 Assassin's Creed Brotherhood MAC Assassin's Creed Liberation HD PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 Assassin's Creed Revelations PC Ghost Recon Future Soldier PC Heroes of Might and Magic VI PC NCSI PC Splinter Cell: Conviction Xbox 360 R.U.S.E. Was kommt als Nächstes?
