What’s a Fromsoft level that, from a story and symbolism perspective, completely devastates you and eats away at your soul? For me, it’s Drangleic Castle from DS2. The existence of this place fills me with unfathomable sorrow and I will care to elaborate with text below this pretty image:

The fact that it sits atop an isolated hill, the emptiness of the rooms, the petrified soldiers, the ghosts and the rain all highlight the sense of dehumanization, isolation, loneliness, loss of self and overall confusion present all throughout this game (especially in, but not only, Nashandra and Vendrick’s relationship). This is a place where more than one person lived, descending towards insanity, for decades and decades rotting in either borderline psychological abuse or the awareness that the world is falling under a curse they do not fully understand, and that everyone is desperately trying to find a cure for, but with no avail.

i made a post a while ago about how Terzo lied about not speaking Swedish. he insisted he did not speak Swedish, but continually demonstrated that he was in fact a fluent speaker and very very familiar with Swedish culture.

yeah so in one of the prequel fics (premature death) directly after suguru leaves reader and gojo have a little moment

i swapped it for the moment satoru has with yaga—except reader isn’t lame and she tells him that she’ll have him however he is (arrogant, the honored one, not strong enough) and he is a bit rectified with that.

except for the fact that the conversation goes:

“it doesn’t matter. you have me.”

“do i?”

“what?”

“do i have you?”

“whenever you want, satoru. whenever you want”

AND THEN we skip forward to one in the morning. so basically reader tells satoru that she will do anything to keep him by her side (since she couldn’t manage to keep anyone else there) and he leaves.

be it missions, work, ghosting—whatever you want to call it. he’s gone.

so, uh, yeah. cant imagine reader is exactly doing great with that.

Okay my copy of agit came in the mail today and I just read the whole thing, so now I can finally share my thoughts.

First of all, love it, literally the only thing I was iffy about the whole time was the fact that they used smartphones and contemporary slang instead of keeping everything from the shows original time period. I personally would have preferred it maintain the 2005-ness of the original show, but I can understand why the author chose to modernize it.

Secondly, the whole two doors thing at the end where his choices were “no powers” or “no phantom planet” very obviously only existed so phantom planet could be retconned out of existence—not that I’m complaining, I’m just saying it was not subtle. (But also phantom planet no longer canon can I get a fuck yeah)

And lastly thank you AGIT for canonizing that Dan calls himself Phantom as his only name because goddamn it is so hard to write anything serious or emotional when the main character’s name is fucking Dan. I’m sorry ppl named Dan but I cannot take your inner turmoil seriously (not when I’m writing in third person, anyway. It really takes me out of the moment. The vibes are awful.)

the last unicorn post from earlier has me thinking about the master. that yana is still in there, you know? is still someone he was, if even for a brief flash across the life of a time lord. there’s no way to unlive that life. there are ways to twist it later, sure, to make utopia into hell on earth. but the life was lived. in much the same way that the doctor can remember, can feel, the love he held onto as john smith even as that life is ripped out of his hands. the doctor choose denial and then grief and then to shutter it all away. and so john smith died, and so professor yana died, and the doctor and the master live on. the doctor has done this before, and he lives in orbit around humanity, trying to keep the best parts of them and hold them deep enough to take root (which he can pretend he gets to choose, as a time lord. as a human, it all floods in and can’t be dug back out.) but what about the master, right?

to borrow a turn of phrase: i think there are two time lords left in the universe, and they both learned how to regret.
