its nothing new but i fell out of a few fandoms, gnshn mainly. due to all the ongoing drama w hoyogames caused by the fandom over the stupidest things (im not involved or get involved in any of that but it always happened i saw stuff here and there on my tl and its just wow), then all the stupid shit hyv pulled in the past months and get away with constantly, then how extremely time consuming and demanding and repetitive everything became etcetcetc i kinda have issues with playing their games. theres jsut no energy or interest left bc all this above is kinda outweighing anything that made me enjoy it before?

(i still adore a bunch of characters and might draw some again but i really am not sure if i will get into the game itself again. im just tired and nothing keeps me there anymore tbh)

zzz is enjoyable as its v chill on time and the team behind it is a new one so the game is sm more different it rlly doesnt feel like a hoyo game anymore. hsr is also ok tho i dont always keep track w it lately, sometimes i just get a bit bored of it when theres nothing interesting baiting me into finishing story stuff lol

i rlly have to say since i stopped actively playing gnshn/spending so much time with keeping up with hoyogames and do all my stuff there every single day, i feel mentally SO MUCH better and suddenly have sm good time to use for other things (also ngl i feel like having to keep up daily w those type of games/playing sm gacha turned me really stupid and impatient over the years)

He is the MC's best friend and fandom's favorite although he acts greedy like my little brother during Christmas so I fail to see the appeal and cry blood whenever I see smut on him bcz he acts like a spoiled 5 yr old brat who loves his mom but will never admit it. You could hold a gun to his head and force him to say it but he will not

What a loser, honestly. All my man does is play video games and simp over underage waifu's. ( YOU CANT TELL ME RURI HANNA IS NOT LIKE 8 ) He 10/10 has a body pillow. Daddy issues who?? Lucifer is his dad and he HATES when he is compared to Lucifer because spoiled brat doesn't want to be like that "ugly old man". He was created out of Lucifer's wrath when their sister died and since then everyone sees him as a replacement for their dead sister he hates it. The kind of guy who would smash random objects when angry bcz of temper tantrums. I don’t feel bad for him because??? Daddy issues??? Suck it up, Lucifer isn’t even that bad your just salty he’s hotter. Also purge that outfit rn, that's a crime to fashion.

Asmodeus- Lust

A boy but so girlypop??( No hate I love girlypop boys ) Probs fucked every human, demon and angel in existence. Gossip queen and mean girl. Don't you think that it's a bit dodgy how 13 basically kills a TARDIS to kill the Daleks and never gets called out on it?

Oh it's super messed up she did it, it's also a bit messed up she wasn't called on it, either, lbr, but this has been one of those things i'm not sure how i feel about. Because hm, hello, that was a murder. That they didn't face consequences for, or even a call out. But also, it's not the first time the doctor's done a murder and not been called on it or faced any consequences for, it happens occasionally.

I know it's happened more than once, but hilariously the only one i can remember rn is one also written by chibnall. Maybe he just has a ~thing (I am talking about dinosaurs on a space ship, which is an episode i hate and probably only remember Because i can't stand it, but still). I distinctly remember rewatching the episode and thinking to myself that I could add that to my list of episodes where the doctor offs somebody, and now I can't remember the others, which is typical, really. Though, I personally think 12 pushed the guy, because he'd never have jumped on his own, so that moment's on the list.

(this whole list was a Thing to start with bc i find it fascinating that the doctor sometimes casually does genocides and doesn't catch Half the fandom crap for it than they do if they kill one person. Something something about crimes that we are able to comprehend and feel emotionally and those we aren't. Like, I cannot comprehend the total annihilation of a species in a single second at all, but I can comprehend a single death and have an emotional response to that one. I find it fascinating ngl).

But to get back on subject, in the end, I think my real answer to this would be to say that it depends on Why she's not called on it. When it aired, people in fandom immediately clocked what she'd done was bad and messed up, so obviously a telling was not strictly Necessary in that people worked it out for themselves.

But, was she not called out for it in the show bc A) they didn't believe it was Necessary to do so bc it wasn't supposed to be bad, B) they didn't believe it was necessary to do so because they realised the audience members both old enough to understand and familiar enough with the snow to know tardises are alive would realise what had happened Without mentioning it and know what she'd done was bad without a hand hold or C) she was not called on it simply because there was nobody To call her on it.

Or it could be a mix of the three different things above. Like, they thought it was messed up for her to do it, but she simply was not called on it bc it was exactly like a few of her other greatest and very messed up hits. Nobody had the context to call her on it, so she wasn't called on it even though it Was messed up just because nobody knew it was messed up.

I like, work on a case by case basis as to whether media should call out its characters for bad behaviour and if it's wrong for them not to because you can't paint everything with the same brush and have any sense of nuance, so I guess I think it depends on if you think it's acceptable or not for a show to portray a character doing something bad that is obviously bad without mentioning it, and if that not doing so implies any kind of acceptance of it. I don't think in general the lack of call outs in media imply acceptance, personally, but that doesn't mean there aren't times when call outs Are necessary.

But I do genuinely think it depends on their reasoning as to if it's actually dodgy they didn't do it or not. Like, if they didn't call her on it bc she apparently did nothing wrong, that's dodgy as hell. If they didn't because they portrayed something bad and trusted the audience to get that without being told, that's ambiguous to me and i am personally unsure how i feel about this instance, and since i've not worked it out in two years, I don't expect to any time soon.

If they didn't do it for watsonian reasons involving the lack of informed knowledgeable characters actually there to call her on it, then i'm fine with that in a vacuum? The fam don't ever actually work out if they think the tardis is alive or some kind of super argumentative AI and that 13 implodes one would probably suggest the ai thing to them, lets be real (even though they'd be very wrong, she hides her worst from them). Jack has basically been trained by the doctor to not ask too many questions at this point by the doctor treating him awfully when he does, And on top of that, he's more ruthless than the doctor to start with and I doubt he'd care much.

I think, in general, instead of a callout, i'd have personally liked a Consequence instead? I don't think bad actions necessarily require a call out bc audiences aren't thick and neither are kids, especially In context of the lack of people to call her out on it. But I do think that consequences should be more often utilised unless you're deliberately showing a moment where somebody Gets Away With Something.

So I'd have loved a consequence for her. Like, 13 desperately needs another tardis being alive and well to do something vital and Oh No the world is going to burn to a cinder bc she killed the last one in a callous last ditch plan which suddenly makes it very clear exactly What she did by killing one! So she's slapped in the face by it even though she didn't have anybody to call her on it at the time. The audience is reminded that what she did was wrong without compromising characterisation, ~viola.

TLDR, it depends on Why she wasn't called on it as to if i think it's necessarily dodgy she wasn't (personally i'd have called her on it, but I don't think it's an automatic black mark she wasn't considering the circumstances of there being nobody would could effectively do so), but i do think it's dodgy she didn't catch any consequences for it, actually? idk, i would have done it differently but i'm a terrible writer so I don't know how. I also would like to know the plan for this show pre-pandemic so i can see what didn't happen through necessity via episode cuts and what didn't happen bc nobody thought it was necessary. It's so hard trying to pick apart anything post rotd without knowing this.

What was your first fandom (reading and/or writing)?

Writing is pretty embarrassing ngl, I was like 11/12 and I wrote a self insert Jonas Brother's fanfic. As for reading, I think it's probably a tie between Stucky and Sterek.

What was the first story you ever wrote (even if it was never posted) and what made you decide to write it?

I did posted my cringy jonas brothers fic when i was 12, and to be honest, I just wanted to write, I kept day dreaming all these scenarios and then I started to put it on paper, and when i found out a friend did that too and she posted them online, i started wanting to share it. I always loved storytelling, and fanfic just seemed like it came hand and hand with a comminuty so that helped too.

What piece of advice would you give your younger fic-writing self?

To stop overthinking what others might think of my stories.

I never stopped writing, but i did stop posting for many many years because i was afraid that people just wouldn't care about stories that i loved, and it wasn't until Buddie that i decided to say fuck it, and post and to be honest, it has been great fun.

What's an early fandom interaction that stuck with you (be it a nice comment, a friend you made, a fic that got a lot of feedback etc.)?

So many comments live in my mind rent free, users who read all my fics and always leave love and in my head we're friends, and of course the actual community of friends i've made, and continue to make, over this past two years that i started being active in the fandom, I love having people to be unhinged about headcanons or stories we wanna write, and trade stories to get them done, its just been a lot of fun (most of the time) being in this fandom.

Post a sentence or two from an older fic and a sentence or two from a newer one (if you want).

I don't have my computer close rn, but I do have an old notebook where i used to brainstorm ideas for my first Buddie Fic that has never (and probably never will) see the light of day, so heres that:

hi yes hello!! i'm so glad you liked the fic, first of all, i had never written anything quite like it (essentially canon/oc fic. video game fandom is weird. i love it)

secondly i am so glad you've given me an excuse to talk about this!!! i love playing clerics for a few reasons. in order of simplest to most complicated:

1). on a purely mechanical level i love their versatility; that you can both deal heavy damage and protect your friends. i think the existence of Healing Word makes clerics 100x more fun than they would be otherwise, because then you can both attack and heal in the same turn. i am someone who LIKES feeling that responsibility for the party each turn, and feeling like each choice involves sacrifice: thinking through who can make it through the next turn without healing vs. needing it now, whether to remove a status effect (using a full action) or let it wear out, etc. you do get the fun of essentially fireballing your enemies while also doing powerful utility stuff (that plants the seeds for interesting character relationships too imo)

2). god the roleplay potential??? it's so good??? you have a very strong "type" you're playing against: the stereotype of a "person of the cloth" existing makes it twice as fun to be, like, a little nihilistic or a little sexy or a little angry, but always always driven by that core of Belief inside of you. all the better if the belief system doesn't naturally fit with the character's personality, and you have to reconcile those things. it builds someone complex

also like. roleplaying a cleric (or a paladin) is marinating yourself in the midpoint between human fallibility and divine "infallibility," wherein actually sometimes it's the human fallibility that needs to win out over the inflexibility of dogma. it's a bit warlock-y in that you are making decisions both for what the character wants to do and what they feel they MUST do per the voice in their head. but it's still flavored differently because, in theory, the cleric has opted into this for moral/belief reasons! and those reasons get to be challenged or reinforced through the campaign

3). world building! you get to parse out how a belief system works in the day-to-day. rn i have two clerics who are driven by a belief in how they need to ethically act in the world (lash as well as duna, an ornery old lady grave cleric--spoiler, they have very different definitions of "ethical") but also an alien cleric in a homebrew campaign whose gods actually dont give a shit about how he interacts with outsiders because that pantheon’s entire existence is built around protecting and saving one specific alien species. the decisions that cleric makes are going to be extremely different than the first two, but i'm always going to be thinking about how those belief systems affect his actions, and when he pushes back (and how much he is ALLOWED to push back).

ngl the psychological element is twice as interesting to me as someone who grew up in a religious environment. what do i appreciate about that kind of person that could be amplified? what Makes Everything Worse?

After reading Young Justice I got interested in Bart. So I'm reading Impulse rn. Do you have any recommendations for comics/series/movies that features him?

hey there!

so the most crucial comics for bart would obviously be the flash #92 (1994) where he debuts and from there if you havent already read his solo series impulse #1 -# 90! hes obviously in young justice (1998) in most issues though not always the main focus in all of them. he appears a lot periodically in the flash as mentioned earlier, and most of his early appearance come from these three id say but im not an EXPERT. he pops up a few times in superboy also from this time but just like a sprinkle of him in a few issues. from here his appearances kind of become sporadic. from my knowledge, the next MAJOR appearance of bart is when he's in the main lineup as kid flash in teen titans (2003), i believe staeting in issue #3? though to be honest, bart's characterization here and the way hes handled by the writers is pretty controversial. some people like the tt'03 run some dont i personaly dont love it. but im pretty desperate considering hes a pretty niche character to begin with so ill take what i can get.

from here, bart kind of appears and disappears in mainline comics for a few years. his "major" comeback would obviously be in the short-lived young justice (2019) comic. hes back to his old namesake after being kid flash and basically not existing. but the series only lasts for about 20 issues which sucks.

if you're looking for an animated component, you could find one in dc's young justice (2011-2022 (/???)) which is a tv show. its called young justice but bart and the original comic yj crew are given a werid hand here. its called young justice but its not very true to the original source and a lot of the yj namesake characters either dont appear or have minor roles. bart has a kind of important role in season 2 and he comes in season 2 episode 5 "bloodlines". but in season 3/4 hes in a few episodes here and there. they don't stay super true to the comics though so his characterization, age, and storyline pretty much all drastically change.

and recently, he's been in (what im aware of anyway) the yj: dark crisis series, the flash (modern day) here and there, and he's in a new series now that i cant remember the name of (flash wars???? lmao)

anyway this is kind of disjointed but you should get a basic understanding of his lore and character from his solos alone. theyre writtten wonderfully and handle a lot of topics in a way that i think other comics dont handle bart as well. he can be mischaracterized by the fandom and by writers who just don't get his appeal. people like him because he comes off as neurodivergent or just "different" than other young heroes. he's an adorable little gremlin and i adore him.

tldr: start with his appearance, read through his solo, if you dont mind the writing of teen titans 2003 and lore being swapped around, feel free to check out their take on kid flash bart, and anything that was written recently is pretty safe (though yj:dark crisis treated him pretty terribly.....ngl).

this isnt ALL his appearances. you can definitely find him in other media. but this is the meat of what i know, anyway. hope this helps!!!

STORY TIME: i moved to canada, just outside of Hockey Capital (Toronto) when I was 9 years old (am 23 rn). so you'd think that i'd have been into hockey since i moved, right, considering that i was surrounded by leafs fans and like a good chunk of guys in my classes growing up were hockey boys?

all the guys ever cared about are the stats. so i wasn't too too interested in hockey. but i somehow absorb a lil too much info about hockey and the leafs in general but i never got /into/ the sport until my best friend lucy got into hockey like in february/march 2023. the irony is that lucy is from the uk and that's who got me into hockey: not any of the hockey boys I grew up having a crush on (bold of my family and friends to assume i got into hockey to impress a guy lol), not any of the hockey boys I went to high school with and was on good terms with. but my British friend (she’s a real one for it). And Tbf it’s because she talked more about the vibes first before she went into talking about the stats. im not a math person so the stats were like flying over my head. but she sends me videos of their interviews and game highlights and talks about them and i'm like... aight okay let me give this hockey thing a chance.

who else but nico hischier? tbh i can't even remember how i first heard about him. but i swear it must be all the gif sets i kept seeing when i started following more and more hockey blogs around april/may 2023? then i watched a few of his interviews and was endeared; thought he was cute and a good captain. but what REALLY sold me was when i found out that his birthday is on january 4, which is two days before mine. i was like "oh cool, a fellow capricorn" bc at that point, i'm pretty sure all the hockey players i keep seeing on my dash had birthdays in april and may, so to see a capricorn hockey player i was like... okay okay. so that's also the story behind my tag for him which is "my cap(tain) and fellow cap(ricorn) <3" if anyone was ever curious. then i read up on him; found out he was drafted first overall in 2017 and i just really liked his vibes as a captain and a player, and decided "yep, that's my guy".

5. A pairing that deserves more fic

ooh this is hard but ngl... kailer yamamoto x connor mcdavid. HEAR ME OUT: yes, i know yamo is no longer with the oilers (rip but he seems happier and less stressed out in seattle, so go have fun, king <3) but when i discovered this pairing when i was reading rpf, i was confused at first but i was VIBING! there was this fic i read on ao3 and it hasn't been updated but the premise was that kailer was a single dad, but no one on the team knows except for like one other person. and connor only finds out that kailer's got a kid when he goes into kailer's apartment to drag him to a team bonding. oof, can't wait to read more tbh. but the fic that really sold me on the pairing was connor having a crush on kailer, who had no idea connor was into men (he thought connor and lauren were dating, when they were really just besties) and i was HERE FOR IT.

tl;dr: kailer x connor will be my rarepair that needs more fics.

6. Your favourite on-ice moment

has to be when jack tackles aho back during the playoffs. this lived rent-free in my brain and i was like.... huh... maybe i should check out the new jersey devils if they got a guy who tackles people like this.

First off, John Hutcherson nailed his role as Mike! I applaud him and the rest of the cast for their phenomenal performance!

I also have to say I absolutely loved the music for the opening credits. It was an absolute bop! That and the combination of the arcade/8-bit animations absolutely captured the same vibes the first few games had imo!

I really liked the relationship between Mike and Abby in this movie as well. I felt so bad for their situation. But I have to facepalm at myself though. Am I the only one who thought Mike was her dad and not her brother at first? ����

Also Vanessa!!! I loved her and she deserved so much better than what happened to her.😭 (I still can’t help wondering if she was intended to be a Security Breach reference??? Maybe I’m looking too deep into this. Idk. Plus, it’s been years since I’ve been in the fandom. So my lore might be mixed up).

Then there’s the cupcake. I’m sorry, but I just had to laugh at how goofy it looked when it attacked 😂.

Ngl I loved the animatronics. I loved the details of their fur/felt(???) and Bonnie’s bow tie! They were honestly kind of cute when they weren’t killing anyone. Lol. Especially during the blanket fort building scene!

And that Balloon Boy figurine…that damn figurine… Every single time, that little asshole jumpscared me just as much as it did Mike and Cory 😂!

Speaking of Cory, he may have only got a few lines and less than a minute of screen time, but he was amazing! He was also such a mood tbh XD. Correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t Markiplier also intended to have a cameo in this movie but it didn’t happen because of some scheduling conflict? Idk the source I saw that on some time ago might be wrong or fake or something.

And, of course, I have to bring up the spring lock suit scene. That had to be one of my favorite parts! I legit got goosebumps. Ngl though I was half expecting it to go either:

1. Exactly like it did in Fnaf 3 where the ghost children chased Afton into the spring lock suit

or

2. The final showdown between Mike and Afton went down like it did in The Silver Eyes (“If you want to be one of them, then be one of them!”).

But honestly, it was very satisfying that Abby revealed to the animatronics that Afton was their killer. I really liked that outcome.

“I always come back.” I kid you guys not, a good amount of us in the theater cheered as soon as we heard the line dhxhxjxkkxxo.

And as I was waiting for the credits to finish, hoping to see a post-credit scene, I was SO thrilled to see that the Kellen Goff was the voice behind Foxy’s “🎵Dum dum diddly-dum🎵” for this movie! I honestly wasn’t expecting any VA’s from the games to be in it!

And finally, speaking of credits….

They did it… Ever since I saw that the movie got the green light, I’ve been anticipating that it would happen…and they actually went and did it. THEY PLAYED THE FREAKING SONG (If you know, you know)!!! Holy crap, so many of us went crazy as soon as we heard the first few notes lmao.

Shame we didn’t get a power outage scene where Freddy played the little tune with his eyes glowing. But all in all, this has to be my favorite movie of the year! /gen

yknow I was thinking about it just a few weeks ago and I thought hey maybe Dan has moved on from being Online™️, at least for the foreseeable future. I thought well, I hope he’s good and satisfied with that and knows that there’s still an audience that respects and supports him if and when he chooses to come back, even if we’re all old af now. I really wouldn’t have ever guessed at the Big Reason lmao the AUDACITY of yt!!

Anyway. More personal rambles under the cut

I really appreciated his comments about parasocial relationships. We really can’t help it in this day and age - public figures affect us, even if they are ‘public’ in the broadest sense of the word. It is not lost on me that most if not all of you that are still here are reading this bc you read my fic about this real closeted man and his secret lover lmao. If I never had to see any more commentary on rpf it’d be too damn soon. It’s all been said I think we’ve had enough. You’re not going to virtue signal people out of it my guys this is the internet I really don’t know what to tell you

But anyway. I tried to be as respectful as possible about it. I never claimed it was speculative. After a while I stopped doing that on here altogether. They just genuinely inspired me. What can I say. I found their dynamic and story compelling. What if I told it in my own way, what if I put this spin on it, what if I could make something fun and sweet that other people would enjoy, what if I made something dramatic and heartbreaking. They helped me discover something I had only dabbled in, an intense passion for the craft of writing that I have only recently picked back up bc I found new muses. (If you like Breath of the Wild, hmu lol)

This community was my lifeline in a very hard time in my life. It helped me make a lot of the friends I have today, some of the closest friends I’ve ever had. It demonstrably changed my life. I didn’t ask for it, but I needed it.

And so I really related to what Dan said about yt. The conflict of wondering if it is a net good when it put people in uncomfortable positions sometimes. Obviously it’s not a direct parallel, I’m not comparing like, petty fandom drama to the trauma of people analyzing your every move while you’re closeted and afraid. I’m glad Dan has been able to come to terms with it, at least a little lol. I think we’d all like to think we had no part in it - I never sent Dan an ask on his margarita blog asking if he was gay or dm’ed him my fic on twitter or submitted drawings of him and his bff fucking when he asked for art. But where’s the line? When does it stop being fun and harmless?

I appreciated his comments about that as well. I myself have loved to cite the fact that Dan really did say ‘knock yourselves out’ when it comes to fan works, asked for submissions of them at several points, and straight up wrote his own and put it in a nyt bestselling book that would forever immortalize him. And also performed it on stage, if in a cheeky and self-aware way. (Yes Phil did most of these things too, but we’re talking about the other one rn. And tbh, Dan always seemed like the one to seek permission from, right? Idk how to explain it but I feel like y’all know what I mean when I say that.)

I recently had my first ever impulse to get rid of my fics - not delete them, but maybe orphan them on ao3 so they wouldn’t be 100% tied to me. Or maybe take them down but keep an archive of pdfs linked here or something - something that would at least partially distance me from The Evils Of RPF. Lbr, I worked too damn hard to destroy my legacy completely. I’ve gotten so many wonderful messages over the years saying that my stories have had real impacts on real people. I can’t just pretend that didn’t happen.

But Dan and Phil are real people too! Dan has talked about how traumatizing it was to have people clock him as gay before he was ready! It’s invasive! It’s weird! It ruined one direction! You should be ashamed of yourselves! Can y’all tell the posts I’m talking about. Have you seen them too.

The one really caught my attention - something like ‘amazing how all those 13 year olds knew Dan and Phil were gay like immediately, they tried to deny it and it didn’t work’. Shit like that puts me on the defensive like immediately, but, admittedly, it was funny. I was like. First of all I was 18 the first time I even saw one of their videos, get your facts straight, not all of us were that young. And second, I was immediately like Self Recognition Through The Other.

Yes it was also maybe invasive curiosity and speculation, maybe attraction to them, maybe genuine enjoyment of their content, maybe the digital landscape at the time in which watching real people do real shit was novel and no one knew the implications until it all started to blow up, etc etc. but like. I didn’t know I was queer at ALL at the time. And a few years in the community later I had more friends than I’d ever had, thriving hobbies, and am now openly bisexual. I can’t say any of that would have happened without this super weird and scary thing.

So, all of that to say, I understand at least some of what Dan was talking about.

Also I’m not deleting my fics, dw. If my boss finds them that’s her fault.

(Not saying I would have absolutely shit myself if Dan had, in fact, launched a project about an alternate unhappy version of his life on his 30th birthday, but it’s a strong possibility.)

A general review of Loki (2021) - !! possible spoilers ahead !!

(If you told my Scandinavia-and-Marvel-obsessed twelve years old self in 2011 that ten years later I would have been doing this she would have laughed in your face, and yet here I am.)

Until very recent times Loki stans were probably the only part of the mcu fandom that agreed on everything. That is, until the show came out. Now everywhere you turn on the internet there is discourse about wether it was good or bad, people arguing that that is not “our Loki” (tf man) so here I am with my own review.

Premise n.1: I am going to be as objective as I can because my field of studies is compared literatures a.k.a. I’ve studied penty of cinematic and theatral critique and, not gonna lie, the weak ass reviews I’ve read till now are all based on the writer’s personal preferences and therefore are fucking useless, so I’ll specify with a bold “personally” my own preferences as a fan.

Premise n.2: norse mythology also is my field of studies so I do have sources for those bits (ngl I’m so fucking delighted I chose to write my dissertation on Loki’s trickster archetype rn) but, but, here’s also a friendly reminder that Marvel’s Loki is only inspired by the mythological one and not a perfect copy of him

Premise n.3: with a second season coming, which is not really a second season but the continuation of the first (for those who don’t know: it was originally supposed to be only one 12-episode-long series but they had to split it because of the virus and shit), what people are doing is basically coming to conclusions without having the whole picture and that’s like a load of bs, especially if you are aware that the story is not fucking over yet. That being said, my review takes into account this.

So sit tight and buckle your seatbelts kids, cause it’s gonna be a long one.

Is Loki a masterpiece? no, there are lots of things that could have been changed or taken off the show without actually having to change the whole storyline.

But is it the worst show in the history of shows? aw hell no.

First of all, we need to place the characterisation he had in the movies:

- Loki causes mischief (Thor’s ruined coronation) but in doing so he does damage to himself too (finds out he’s adopted, cue huge breakdown) so he tries to do good (in his mind, by killing Lufey) then he “dies” (lets go after the fight on the Bifrost), then in a quick parenthesis he returns as a villain to the Avengers, loses the battle, and is brought back to Asgard. In TDW, he causes mischief (tells the Kursed the way to the stairs) but in doing so he does damage to himself (the Kursed kills Frigga) so he tries to do good (help Thor get revenge for their mother) then he dies. He returns once again revealing a fake death and causes mischief (imprisons Odin) but in doing so he does damage to himself too (Odin’s death frees Hela) so he tries to do good (helps Thor on Sakaar) then he dies once again, this time definitely. Notice a pattern?

That, my friends, is called a huge pain in the ass to write for your dissertation trickster sequence or trickster cycle. It’s a particular sequence that has it’s roots in the mythical Loki, one of the “original” trickster archetypes: basically, the trickster turns a situation upside down for his own benefit but in doing so begins a chain reaction that keeps on going as a cycle of mischief-benefits-negative side effects. An example of a trickster sequence in the myths that I luckily still had in my notes:

Trickster characters are really, really hard to write and characterize because of this, as there are only three alternatives:

1- The trickster dies, a definitive way to put an end to the cycle

2- The trickster keeps on repeating the unending cycle, thus becoming a really flat, boring and predictable character

3- The most difficult one (but also the most effective to get out of the cycle), an archetype switch. That means starting to write a long journey through which the character reaches another archetype, i.e. that of the Hero.

Of course after three turns of the cycle the marvel authors used the first option, killing off Loki, only to have a show about a version of him (from the Avengers movie) that had only gone through one cycle. Thus they had option two a.k.a turning the God of Mischief into possibly the flattest and most boring character ever, or option three a.k.a. the archetype switch. Guess which one they chose.

Many people think that the switch has been made to the archetype of the Hero and are angry for it because “it’s not our Loki” (which btw is total bullshit because the Loki from the show is similar to the one of the Thor movies, if we had to pick an impostor that would be the Loki from the Avengers which has a completely different characterisation from the others and is the only actual one that’s a villain whereas in TDW+Ragnarok he’s a helper and in Thor is neither one nor the other) but that is definitely not it. Personally, I couldn’t see yet any defining trait of a particular archetype so for that we’ll have to wait for season 2 (as I’ve already said, it would be unfair coming to conclusions without having the whole picture), though I’m one ninety-nine percent sure he’s not switching to the Hero one.

Now, on to the show’s characterisation.

- One thing I’ve seen a lot of is talk of “he’s so dumb, he’s not the cunning and smart Loki we know” and “ew Sylvie x Loki” (personally the selfcest ship also makes me icky, ngl) but boi lemme tell you something: it’s been said more than once that Sylvie as a character was added in stead of Amora the Enchantress, as a mix of Female Loki and, indeed, Amora herself. After the season finale personally I’m starting to think that she is indeed just Amora, but be it just her or a mix of her and Female Loki there is one thing that I feel like reminding: Amora literally enchants men to fall in love with her, so she can use them. Again, I can’t critique the show as a whole without season 2 being out yet, but let’s keep in mind that it is still a possibility, especially now that we know that in the last episode she did kiss Loki just to get to Kang.

- The catalyst for the archetype switch was in my opinion a bit too fast, but that was maybe the most effective way to do it. Why? Well, the only really good way to actuate it is a long arc, an arc for which the show definitely did not have enough run time for. So the producers got really smart, I’ll have to admit, and got the chance to use what was set up for them in Endgame with the fact that the Loki of the show is a past version, a variant: they showed the variant what would happen to him. If you were shown the things that were in the file, the death of your mother, your father, yourself, possibly your brother, (the file has never shown that Thor’s actually alive and well so it is safe to assume that show-Loki thinks that his brother is also dead), all of your race, wouldn’t your psyche be totally changed as a result of not only shock, but also of grief? And if you felt all of that while in an unfamiliar and hostile place, wouldn’t you attach yourself to the first familiar thing (Sylvie) too?

- In my opinion, another catalyst for the switch is the presence of Mobius. As I’ve said: shock plus grief plus being stuck in an unfamiliar and hostile place. The in comes the one person who is at least decent to you and it is again only natural to get attached, so when that person tells you that a villain is not all you are, and that you can be whatever you decide to be, you do start believing it yourself.

And at last, the LGBT+ rep:

- As a bi person who’s grown up with the mcu, you can imagine my joy in knowing that now Loki’s not only canon bi in the comics, but in the mcu too. I’ve read however many people lamenting that it’s only said, not shown, and honestly: same. But at the same time I’d like to raise awareness to the fact that it’s not probably the producer’s fault. I actually think they had to put lots of pressure on the studios to make him canon bi like in the comics, but in the end the last word is not theirs, it’s the higher ups at Disney’s. So yeah, was that just the bare fucking minimum? definitely. Should we be angry with the producers? hell naw. 

Point is, Disney as a society thinks of the money they can get by producing media, and when there are still countries in the world in which being lgbt+ is a crime, that would not buy disney’s products knowing that there is actual rep in there, that would be bad for business. So they did what they could get away with, a.k.a. “a bit of both” dialogue, that can easily be dubbed as a different one in countries that don’t want the rep.

Personally I am disappointed but not surprised, yet at the same time I can see as the huge step that is having a disney character that is officially canonically lgbt+, and who knows, maybe that will pave the way for others.

However, I think that the only thing we can do is just settle with that. Why? 

These were the most controversial points of the show (the other one is another load of bullshit cause you can’t go around yelling “The finale is unclear! Where did Renslayer go? The show sucks!” if a second season has been confirmed. It’s called a cliffhanger honey, look it up.), and most of them can only be solved definitely by waiting for s2, but on the whole the show is definitely not bad. Have you seen the photography? Have you seen the acting levels? The costume and make up? The fucking amazing Loki variants? It’s all really well done and the show as a whole does not deserve all the hate that it’s getting because of three unresolved points.

i tried to write smut once. it was a part two to the pool tables have turned. i had horny thots that night. i published it. then i went to bed. i woke up 8 hours later and it had decent exposure? i reread it. i cringed. and then i deleted it. yes, that was the saga of me writing smut, deleting it and thinking i should never do it again, haha! so atm i don't write explicit smut, but i do like some allusions to it, hehe.

yes, i think in my wattpad days! i honestly cannot remember what it was about or what happened, but i did! recently i haven't! i might be open to it though!

me x fictional character because i am lonely lmao. no um. super niche but there was this book series called the chemical garden and i liked the main characters relationship with gabriel. i think it was rhine x gabriel. yeah, i liked those two together! i like most canon ships ngl so this one was the first that came to mind.

13. What are your thoughts about writing dialogue in another language in a fic?

depends on the execution honestly! i like little words here and there, sometimes a full sentence if i can deduce whatever is said through context, but when there's full on another language with translations at the end of a fic, i'm less inclined to read it! (most of the time i can understand what is said though! bless me and my obsession with languages!)

okay. this is hard. i am a little embarassed. so i wrote for 1D first BUT i was never a fan? i was a little capitalist back in my wattpad days and i saw those stories got way more likes and reads than original work? so i was like, lemme use these men to my advantage. i also was too lazy to make a complex character of my own. so yes, 1D, then 5SOS.
