i think maybe one of the things that makes me saddest about a lot of these re-enactment channels that make historical stuff, and modern homesteading (tho there's a lot going on there that i'm not qualified to talk on much at all) is that a lot of these skills are relegated to content creation and/or the hyper-independent type of person who does Everything themselves. and I get the appeal, truly, but i think it's a little misleading? humans are and have always Been social animals. Yes, people used to build their own houses or weave their own cloth or raise their own animals or grow their own crops, but they didn't do it *alone*.

Even something as basic as cooking wasn't a solo activity. we've been looking after the elderly and the disabled for as long as we've been Around.

I don't have much beef with re-enactment channels - it's hard enough to find time to do these things alone, let alone with a group, especially regularly. but the idea that you need to turn your back on your community and become Fully Self Sufficient is just... Not Good, I think.

anyway, basically hylian courting is a lot shorter, think “lesbians with the uhaul” type of energy, like sort of the classical medieval “does thee wish to pursue marriage with this one?” ← how hylians ask u out for the first time lmao

if it helps, they do tend to get to know one another well, talking about morals/kids/life goals/preferred lifestyle/house/etc. pretty clearly and quickly, then using the in between time to sort of stew on that information

id say the total time is sort of something like 6 months? maybe 3/4 if they're really compatible

(so bc i love interpreting video game logic for real world building, I actually blame this on how fast Zelda/link get together in games despite having sometimes never met before that moment lol)

like i said, ill be posting about this later

pretty basic, just saying we don't really see hylians in big groups, despite the organizations they form, like kingdoms/knights or on a more personal level, towns/families/etc.

(once again, in-game appearances/video game logic translated to real life to draw these conclusions)

like not only are family units pretty small, like nuclear family setup, with like 2 parents and 2 kids, or single parent 1 kid type of situation, but the towns or collections of these families arent very big either

hylians kind of use their government the way it was intended lmao?

like the villages and towns matter more for everyday decisions than the kingdom/royalty, like Zelda would esstientally just be the mayor of Castle Town for those constant decisions,

while occasionally is called on to make decisions like for several towns or like is a natural disaster happens

meanwhile humans are, in comparison, in Way Bigger groups, both on an organization scale, and a personal scale

like u have all these specific branches of government, whereas im sure the population difference doesn't help,

and on a personal level, humans can easily have like multiple parents, lots of siblings, and once u combine that with each parent having family too, and those families like to meet up? All together??

yeah, itd look insane to any hylians (who’s smaller extended family may just make up their own village and that's it)

3. I've touched on this

like the use of spices, syrups, seasonings, etc

but also the complexity of dishes too, like chilling cream and mixing it for awhile to make ice cream, or even just getting ordering a pizza,

that's a lot of processing, like making the dough from flour and other ingredients, to letting it rise, to making the tomato paste, making cheese, then combining those things with any other toppings, all into one dish??

i like to think that hylians have only just started to touch on actual complicated cooking processes (as in BOTW, where they sell flour and salt, so people besides Link/Wild must know what to do with it)

this has the advantage of impressing any hylian with what a “creative genius” you are lol

4. look im just a fan of medieval time periods Links

so i think its funny if the hylians are used to like 4/3 layers and ur over here like, “wym, if i take off my shirt there's nothing underneath?”

one of them gets bold enough to ask, “d-do you not. do you not have undergarments??”

you “just my boxers? like just to cover my di-”

also this makes its easy to seduce people here? LMAO

clothes are def higher quality, after all there's not as many artificial processes or materials interfering,

plus u usually get some sick embroidery on it too!!

5. so like i get it, Link is the main fighter in games

but like, the few times there is a war/army in loz games, there's rlly not a lot of strategy, beyond just finding the enemy and fighting

tho im partial to that hylians/most inhabitants of Hyrule abide by the “lets meet up either literally by inviting each other or just between our territories to fight”

with occasional guerilla warfare (by any means necessary/stealth/ambush attacks/strategy) that's only rlly used either by Demise/Ganon, or by the wilder individuals/races in games

or maybe even the more civilized fighters in an emergency

and so that means by this logic that all of the Chain use kind of wild techniques compared to their race/kingdom lmao

id imagine its not too surprising to also see “every fight is a bar fight if its for my life” from individual travelers, so im sure they're not viewed too crazy (esp when ppl know their the hero that constantly has to deal with guerilla warfare from Ganon)

but its be hilarious to watch the reactions of both the Links realizing they’re in a bigger group that should be using “proper” fighting strategies and seeing the general publics reaction to this absolutely feral, armed to the teeth, trained hylians with their equally wild human lol

LMAO everyone thinks ur the reason they started using the more brutal fighting methods bc ur human, ur a bad influence lol

(humans would use it primarily, esp after we converted to use that method in warfare a couple hundred years ago i think?)

changing course a bit, hylians tend to use weapons (to compensate for difference in strength compared to humans, and since they don't experience/get a lesser version of adrenaline)

while humans tend to equally rely on weapons and our body as a weapon (marital arts/basic self-defense)

6. this is mostly bc the hylians only rlly seem to have the basics of music, books/stories, theater, and art

i have, surprise surprise, another post abt how i think this came to be,

mostly based on how human curiosity is indomitable and insatiable and the endless force that has not yet met its immovable object.

or at least an immovable object they haven't at least poked a little, out of curiosity lol

like we went to space for that reason, we reach the most dangerous corners of our planet (deep underwater/volcanoes) out of sheer curiousity/for the sake of simple knowledge of the thing

so needless to say, curiosity can absolutely drive any field to its limits, including the arts, which is why we can have stained glass, or movies/tv shows, hell, the marvel that is Hatsune Miku lmao

(fully for entertainment, a projection of light and sound, what is essentially magical illusions but u did it hte hard way, to the hylians)

on a different entertainment related note, i don't know if the hylians would be super into sports, or not really at all? mostly bc they have to use their fighting/training against real threats, not the sort of “fake” threats that sports are

but on the other hand i could see people like knights wanting to use their abilities for something other than violence and fighting bc their life or their villages lives depended on it

bet the Links would enjoy it for those reasons especially, what with at least sumo wrestling being a sport or activity for them at some point in history, and practically beg u for any new games to play, or to ref their games, bc whewwww

im sure they could get pretty competitive lol

7. obviously, their mostly influenced by the Japanese language

id almost like to imagine a sort of, if not outright Japanese (like with earlier heroes like Sky) then a sort of English-Japanese hybrid further along the line

sort of like how English has German/Greek/Latin roots and therefore u can see what words or structure comes from where, or even how u can understand a fair amount of basic words when other languages share the same roots (english, pants = spanish, pantalones)

would make for some funny miscommunications

or even better, most hylians liking ur unique accent or the Links love to hear u talk bc of it lol

DAVID - New Year’s Eve

Not the actual day, but what it represents

Though he does like the parties

Particularly enjoys setting goals for the next year

Some of them have to do with murder but oh well

He fully writes out a little list and tapes it to a cave wall

He lets the others all submit a goal for him and he chooses one to actually do

He normally throws Paul’s out

“Stop being Michael’s little bitch boy”

They are less so about improving himself and more about what insane shit can he get away with in the new year

One year his only goal was to eat every person who protested during pride month

He got a stomach ache but he eventually tracked them all down

It’s the only holiday were you will EVER see him dress up

He does those glasses in the shape of whatever year it is and sometimes wears a suit

But only if he’s really into his next list

Won’t admit it, but also thinks the kiss tradition is romantic

Just the fact that the first thing someone wants to do after the clock resets is kiss him?

He’s a sucker for it

He doesn’t do a quick little peck either

It’s pretty much the only time he will give whoever it is a sweet, gentle, and sensual kiss other than in situations where he genuinely thinks he’s gonna lose them

Like when Marko got impaled in the stomach

His favorite memory of all time is when they all managed to do a group kiss as the countdown ended one year

It was kinda clunky and the least romantic kiss he’s ever had but he still loved it

MICHAEL - Thanksgiving

Doesn’t really care about the actual day and what it originally was

Just really loves spending time with the people he cares about

The boys all spend pretty much every second together anyways but this is the only day he can get his bio family and his boyfriends all together in the same place without one side trying to/ threatening to kill the other

It’s not as tense as you’d think either

They all love Michael enough to basically forget everything that has ever happened between them and pretend they’re all just regular humans

He loves to watch Sam and Dwayne geek out about comic books together

Even if he doesn’t know what half of what they’re saying means

It doesn’t hurt that Lucy is an AMAZING cook

He legitimately shoved Sam out of his seat one year when they were kids

He was NOT gonna let him get both legs of the turkey

Whenever it’s his year to do the wishbone he does the same thing

For everyone to get along like this more often

PAUL - Christmas

Honestly he loves all holidays

It’s just an excuse to be even more affectionate to everyone

ppl tend to be more happy and friendly during Christmas and he loves that

He’s a huge extrovert and during most the year ppl in Santa Carla are less likely to engage with strangers

But this time of year? Everyone is getting in the holiday spirit

He’s always wanted the boys to form a band and the comprise they came up with is caroling

They let him pick the song

If anyone slams the door in their face or is otherwise outright rude he gets SO sad

The rest of the pack hunts those ppl down through the next year and gives them to paul as a gift

He loves it

He also is a huge fan of decorating the tree

It normally looks like an elf threw up tinsel and joke ornaments but he’s very proud of it

Tries to convince everyone else to keep it up as long as possible

Plans a movie marathon on Christmas Eve

Actually BUYS candy canes, hot cocoa, & peppermint bark (stealing that would ruin the shop owners vibes and he refuses to do that near Christmas)

Sets up all the treats and picks 5 movies for them to cuddle up and watch near one of the caves barrels

The only movie he picks every single year is Die hard

Other than that one he has a rule that he can’t reuse a movie he picked in the last 5 years

MARKO - Halloween

Mainly enjoys the build up over the actual day

He takes a lot of pride in making his and all the boys costumes from scratch (except David -_-)

They turn out really high quality as well

Usually at least one of them gets stopped and complimented on it

Occasionally someone thinks they have the actual costume from the movie/show the characters from and they become invincible

Like marko refuses to let any of the boys eat that person for the rest of time

He takes it so seriously I’m not even joking

There’s a no kill list with names and updated pictures

David ignored it once and never made that mistake again

Marko genuinely was really hurt and didn’t hang out with him one on one for 4 months

And withheld any affection from him for 2 months

He made sure the body was found (made it look like a hit and run) and brings little trinkets to the grave every once and a while

LOVES horror movies

Especially the really gory ones

He’s a sadist and takes the really interesting kills as inspiration

It’s like his own personal Pinterest

Pulls a ton of pranks during the month of October

Toilet papers ~50 houses every year

Steals huge bags of candy and hands them out at the board walk

He loves Halloween so much and wants everyone to be able to enjoy it

There’s a family in town that loves it but can’t afford good quality costumes most years

He reached out to the parents and offered to make all the families outfits for free

He’s done it the past 3 years and loves it

When he drops of the costumes he leaves candy for the kids and a wad of money that definitely was acquired legally

Just trust him on that and don’t ask too many questions

Uses washable paint and decorates David’s bike

It’s the only thing David will let anyone else do to his bike bc he knows marko will take it seriously and make it bad ass

He also gets a free bike cleaning for Marko after it starts to peel/chip off so win-win

DWAYNE - Valentine’s Day

I personally see him as the most romantic of the group

But he’s also the one who has the hardest time showing it

Valentine’s Day is the day he feels the most comfortable showing love bc he knows all his boyfriends are in the mood for “all that mushy shit” (Marko’s words)

He does NOT hold back

Valentine’s Day is more like valentine’s week bc he gives each of them a special day leading up to the 14th

Then on the actual day he plans a group date

He spends the entire year stealing borrowing gifts from victims that he thinks the boys will love

He has a mini garden near the bottom of the cliff

He grows the other’s favorite flowers

He leaves them in random parts of their nests year round, but makes a huge bouquet of all of them for Valentine’s Day

His demeanor totally switches during this time

Normally he tries to be a chill, mysterious, laid back kinda guy

But during his favorite week?

He’s like an excitable puppy

He’s constantly giggling and being extra affectionate with the boys

Pulls out ALL the couples nicknames

Even in public he’s doing more than he usually does

Dwayne takes any extra flowers he has and if he sees anyone who looks sad or lonely on valentines night he gives them a compliment and a flower

Eats ppl who are being dicks to their partner that night

Figured it’s the best time of year for it.

Gonna be so fr yall, I don’t think I’m ever gonna post as much as I used to. I was pumping out like 6 posts a month for 4 months which may not seem like a ton but it feels like it is lmao

But now I have more responsibilities than I used to and it’s killed my creativity a bit. That being said: I’m not giving up completely. I’m still keeping this blog and writing whenever I feel like it, just not at the speed or amount I used to do it. I’m setting a goal for at least once a month next year and I’m really gonna try to keep it.

Just binged TADC like I said I would ummm I like to think that all of them together are a Girl Group (even Kinger and Zoob idc) except for Jax. Close like coworkers after a really bad shift. Close like cousins who have nothing in common but are still beloved to one another cuz they're family and they've known each other forever. And then you have that GUY who has both rejected and been denied (for fair reasons) any kind of camaraderie at all except for occasional olive branches that he twists into a prank or sum lol. Like he has to know he's lonely. There has to be an ache in him whenever he sees people that there's NO SHOT he'll be able to get on better terms with (without significantly damaging his reputation) just laughing and cutting up and helping each other along. He actually has no one lol what does he do all day. My timeline for him (in my heart) is that he enters the circus and has an Okay attitude for a while even though he's a borderline a toxic person irl until he starts messing w people to break the monotony. He gets farther and farther into the Menace act until it's too late to turn around and now he can Only Be That. Sometimes you get so deep into a role that you make for yourself that the only way out of it is to dip out. Weird example but ummm leaving home for college will make your personality do a whole backflip and seeing people who knew you for what you used to be is a little uncanny. Except he can't escape. There's no clean slate anywhere in sight. Lowkey I think he's patiently waiting to abstract because at least then he won't have to worry about wanting friends (he won't have to worry about wanting to be loved who said that). Abstracting is easier than apologizing. Abstracting is easier than changing your behavior and beholding the consequences and being a witness to the way people look at you. Have you ever been sitting at lunch and you hear the laughter of ppl who over the years have slowly become your enemies? Did you ever say something horrible to someone and it's all you can think about every time you're around them?? Do you know what it's like to be around someone who has painted a picture of you in their head so vividly that you cannot be anything else to them and any unpredicted action from you would be so so so grotesque?? Don't @ me on this but I think we all know he has Gender Issues and personally I think he'd act so different if another guy joined the cast. I think he'd be like THANK GOD (translation: someone who can understand me!) like does he know he can be friends with girls and be nice to girls and they can add wonderful things to his life and he can add wonderful things to their lives?? Like he does not need to show off all the time how cool and aloof he is. I think he's waiting for the Perfect Friend (someone who is a reflection of himself) like all lonely ppl do and dismissing the Real People who are already around him. The rumors that kept circulating his mind about how you also had feelings for him. Was driving him insane with all the conflicting emotions in his weak heart.

If the rumors are true then why’re you avoiding him? The day before the both of you were in the library leisurely reading books sitting next to each other as if you were connected by the red strings of faith. The atmosphere was so blissful a lovely distraction from the chaos in a world that seems so hopeless.

But now he’s witnessing you ignoring his existence entirely almost as if he didn’t exist in your heart to being in with. And that made him anxious with insecurities running rampant until it turned into twisted delusions.

Armin went rigid at the mere mention that he would choose that abomination you utterly despised over you. Calming himself he couldn’t help but let out a tiny sigh of relief realizing that it was not as bad as he originally thought. Although, he did have an encounter with her, trust me when I say that it was far from that of a friendly front.

Now that he had a clear vision of the situation, he knew exactly what he needed to do to mend the bridge between him and his darling.

Him being all nice to Annie was just a facade to get her guard to the lowest crumbling point. The woman was already running on a half life carrying the guilt of her past warrior self. He pretended to be empathetic towards her, feeding the flames of her innermost desire to end it all by stating that she had suffered long enough by the hands of fate. And that as a former ally he’d assist in making sure she had a nice send off straight to hell.

And eventhough He knew it was wrong of him to enjoy the simpering thought of how jealous you were at the mere inkling idea that he was interested in Annie. He couldn’t help the excitement drumming along in his heart at how that was a sign of your apparent love towards him. A telltale sign of how you wanted him.

He nearly got weak in the knees at the vision of you and him getting together as a loving couple. Especially since he knew that his goal was within reach, all he had to do was set the plan in motion. In few days time you’ll soon see how much he truly loves you, and how much he’d be willing to be your faithful companion.

And what better way to show it, by giving you the chance to get revenge on the traitor you loathed with all your being.

With that in mind Armin quickly headed towards your quarters, his steps becoming upbeat with a small hopeful smile on his face while he daydreamed about you rewarding his efforts with a kiss.

This is a DN AU where Light never finds the DN. I will say it’s very heavy on mental illness and things like that, and ppl might find the content triggering so I would read with caution if this is the case for you. It’s a fanfic that I still think about to this day and that I’ve reread maybe 5 times in the last 14 yrs. Something about it rlly stuck with me and I still think about it all the time.

2) The Hinterland Doctrine aka Those Who Stand For Nothing Fall For Anything by Halfpromise both on ao3 and fanfiction.net

We all know where we were when this shit dropped lmfao. This is one of the most iconic death note/lawlight fanfics ever written and just so you’re aware, it’s almost 800,000 words. It has its own tv tropes article and everything 😂 I remember reading this fic in highschool and it had me fucked up in all sorts of ways. I’ve been thinking about rereading it bc I haven’t read it in years but I remember how much I loved it. It’s also an AU where Light is a politician, I’m not telling you anything else 🤫

This is a Katara x Aang long fic where they break up and eventually get back together. I rlly love this author and I’ve read most of their works. I recommend all their stuff, especially Midnight Meditations and Without Water which are both one shots I believe? Don’t quote me on that tho

The only other fics coming to my mind are fanfics that my friends have written. Like I said, I don’t rlly read too much fanfic these days and when I do read them, I am very selective and picky about it. And i remember hearing people talk about how unserious this season is or how it feels like this season is completely unhinged, and i didn’t get it. But i recently started re-listening to the first season while i was waiting for this episode to come out, and when it finally did i felt like i was completely thrown for a loop. This season is so insane compared to season one, and i don’t mean this as a bad thing, but the series has changed so much.

And I now am beginning to see the absolute absurd shit that happens in this season and how put together s1 was. But i honestly think its funny how weird this season was and its nice just seeing the group get to do fun goofy shit as teens

but to me marvey is an unrequited love story. idk what to say. mike doesn't love harvey. sometimes i don't even think mike likes harvey as a friend. that's how soured by s6+ i was. mike treated harvey like shit and harvey kept coming back for more. it was actually painful to watch. i read marvey and usually the stories i find believable r the ones where mike leaves with rachel and GROWS UP (even tho he's a 30 yr old man at the start of the show) and everyone's wounds have had time to heal. i can buy marvey getting together then. what i don't find believable are stories where mike is pining for harvey!?!??! i don't know what show that is. the guy literally couldn't get away from harvey fast enough. he gets out of jail and almost immediately fucks off to seattle with his wife and doesn't even tell harvey about it like??

-this is this ship i was rooting for when i watched the show the first time. the thing about them is their history and emotional connection. to me they are a single entity. they r partners and they have always been partners. u don't even get to talk to harvey without going thru donna - she is literally the physical border between him and the outside world

i love how they protect each other. harvey has never let anything bad happen to donna. it's a fact. he'd do anything to protect her and we see that. but here's the thing about their relationship - it's mutual. donna does INSANE THINGS for harvey like KEEP A DOCUMENT THAT SHE STOLE FOR OVER A DECADE ON THE OFF CHANCE THAT SOMEONE GOES AFTER HARVEY FOR CAMERON'S CRIMES. they wud do anything for each other and they both know it

i also love how highly they think of each other. we always see donna defending harvey. she defends him because she thinks he's a good person ("because ur worthy"). she's one of few ppl on the show who does. most ppl think of him as a dick and that group includes mike

the way harvey views donna is almost worshipful. he thinks she can do no wrong. “donna doesn’t make mistakes.” he trusts her completely. she's his compass. every success he has is a shared success. “we made partner.” he doesn’t even think he can be himself without her. and don’t get me started on how debilitating her moving 3 doors down the hall was for him

anyways tldr their relationship is a two way street. they love each other and they both know it. and i'm not talking about after they finally get together (let's not talk about s9). i'm talking about before. because even if they didn't know the other person wanted to be with them - they knew they loved them and would do anything for them
