That Evie actress is so pretty we were cheated fr, she looks kind of like young Brooke Shields. They did a good job casting her and Sandy although I can’t congratulate them TOO much because a casting choice means fuck all if you don’t give them screen time! Wouldve been nice if we’d gotten a Kathy and Sylvia too, i know none of these girls had roles aside from merely being mentioned a couple times in the story, it’s all purely wishful thinking from a poor feminist heart :-(
Bailey, this is the biggest of moods! like, when i first found out that there was an evie even in the cast, i lost it! i was like “omg where? why? what is going on? francis ford coppola, you best watch out, son. get ready for my 20 page essay on why i think you were wrong for not including my girls”
sksksksk it’s cool finding out that they were supposed to be in the movie. like, they had a script with sandy dropping soda off at home and when rob lowe posted about that, i nearly shit myself. i was like fja;dlja;dfijaofija and according to imdb, heather langenkamp had some scenes recorded then deleted.
it makes me wonder if the reason we didn’t have a kathy and sylvia credited for deleted scenes was because they just never got around to film any of their parts (that would later be deleted anyway)....if that makes sense...

I’m in Dublin and in a lot more company than I’m used to when writing. I forgot I’d joined Brighton Wrimo, but here I am and I’m in it. Suddenly everything is on Discord and because it was designed for gamers it’s really powerful. Terri’s on the other bed doing her thing, and I’m writing when I didn’t expect to be because other people are, too.
I have no idea if any of this will be usable but I’m going to do it anyway because here I am doing it.
I think this is mainly a group for fiction writers but I’m crashing it because I think they’ll let me and I am sure they’ll kick me out or I won’t want to be here if I don’t fit.
I arrived on Friday and Terri was at her conference on Decolonising the Internet and didn’t get back till late. Yesterday was the last day of the conference so I was on my own in Dublin. I had canvased opinion about what to do here, but found my pick accidentally, just because Belette happened to post about how Francis Bacon’s studio had been reconstructed in Dublin.
Reading about it I discovered that this was not the work of a curator, but a conservator, and it wasn’t just art conservationists who worked on it but a team of archaeologists who mapped the studio and it’s 7000 objects in three dimensions so that the replication would be precise.
I didn’t quite trust my phone to map my journey properly so I wrote myself some directions - go past 6 bridges then turn left, and the gallery is just past the hospital.
On my walk I passed statuary commemorating famine and struggle, protestors on hunger strike for homelessness, and a small but noisy protest about something with shouting and megaphones. This struck me not only because I haven’t been in a city centre for a long while, not even my own, but also because in the UK protest itself is no longer legal.
I walked at a clip, and arrived at the gallery ready to sit down and take a moment. I asked at reception where the installation was and got a map. I walked through a few rooms housing a permanent collection of mostly general European stuff, with no particular theme. Ahead of me was a sliding glass door with the words Francis Bacon Studio etched in it in something like Helvetica, lit in the orange glow of a Quality Street toffee.
The space is arranged around the installation of the room, which can be looked into only through the doorway or the site of the original windows. So the walls are walls. You can’t see it straight away, you have to go up some steps, then there’s a projection of an interview in the studio with Bacon talking to Melvyn Bragg. He talks about his studio, what he likes about it, and his relationship with the chaos. Behind the projection you can glimpse the entrance to the room. The door into the studio and the windows into the studio are sealed in glass so the whole thing is a vitrine, and the light comes from the daylight that comes through the skylights in the roof of the studio then the gallery’s own skylights. So you are seeing the room as though you were approaching it in real life.
In Ways of Seeing John Berger said
The days of pilgrimage are over
He could not have been more wrong.
He was talking in 1972, at a certain point in the proliferation of imagery and it’s reproduction, and he was expanding on Walter Benjamin’s 1936 essay, and he could not have known what we know now. His argument was that the more images come to you the less you need to go to them.
For me, though, in this moment in 2022, I was time travelling to Bacon’s studio at the time of his death in 1992. As far as the conservator, Mary McGrath, and her team could make it, this is time travel made concrete. The vitrine which holds the entire room including floor, walls, and ceiling, has a small entrance which you can stand in, where the floor is under your feet, the hinge of the door and the door is on your right, and a dressing gown and some towels are right next to you on your left, and the famous scene is before you. But in front of you, above you, and on either side is glass.
Tears formed in my eyes.
I made my way around the room and looked in the windows. I sat on the floor and took photos. I wandered back round to the projection room again and allowed the soothing tones of Bragg and Bacon talking and sat in the space.
When I was sure that I’d have it to myself I approached the doorway. There is the handle that Bacon touched to open the door. There is the iconic round de-silvered mirror with paint smears around it on the wall.
I couldn’t take much more in. I almost took photographs instead of looking. I had no reason to stay in the gallery, and there wasn’t anything else I wanted to see. Terri had messaged to tell me where we were supposed to be meeting later and it wasn’t nearby or soon, so I walked slowly back to the hotel.
I set myself up for yoga on the floor. I took one of those weird decorative runners they put on beds in hotels and lay it on the floor in place of a yoga mat. I wrapped pillows in towels for bolsters, and took two small cushions off chairs for props.
I lay on the floor and tears slid out. Then I headed inwards and down and down in supported twists, meeting my own body in this moment on this mat now.
When Terri came back and said she was sorry but she couldn’t handle the end of conference meal I was ready to go, but glad to stand down.

Hell to the No-- Ben Hardy x Reader (ft. Joe Mazzello.. like, a lot)
Tumblr media
Prompt; none this time!
Warnings; slight language, specified fem! reader
Word Count; 2k
Notes; I wrote this instead of writing the essays that are due tomorrow, so I hope y’all enjoy lol ALSO IF YA WANNA BE ON THE TAG LIST FOR FICS LEMME KNOW!!
Growing up with Joe Mazzello was... interesting, to say the least. He was the typical older brother. The two of you would constantly bicker over the simplest things, and then you two would be up to mischief together before the day was over. There was incessant teasing between the two of you. Joe was the constant ball of energy around your home, and you always struggled to keep up with him. And yes, he was constantly screaming.
When you were young, you thought he was the coolest person-- albeit you would never admit that. He achieved the childhood dream of being famous. You were always his biggest fan. If he needed help preparing for an audition, you’d give him your full attention. You always had his back, and you knew that he always had yours.
In a way, you made your own name for yourself. You were a photographer, a quite good one at that. You were hired by many companies for high-end photo shoots. As you started to rise through the rankings, Joe helped you out a little. He would try to convince the management to hire you for whatever film or show he was working on’s promotional photographs. Sometimes it would work, and you were always grateful for his support.
“Joey, please, you don’t have to keep doing this.” He had somehow managed to get you hired on the set of The Pacific. Joe just scoffed at your remark, looping an arm around your shoulders.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
After that, it became pretty common for you two to work together. If you hired one Mazzello, then you might as well hire the other because you’d never hear the end of it if you didn’t. Luckily for you, the same applied to Bohemian Rhapsody. You were beyond ecstatic when you got the news. The first thing you did was call Joe, practically screaming in his ear.
You were on set, discussing some photo arrangements when you heard a familiar voice call out, “Aw, there’s my little mozzarella stick!”
“Shut it, Francis,” you quipped before apologizing to the person you were originally talking to. You spun on your heel and immediately burst out laughing. It wasn’t the first time you had seen Joe’s curly wig, but it seemed to get bigger every time you caught a glimpse of him. He was walking with three other men. You had already met Rami, as he had been friends with Joe for quite some time. The other two were unknown to you. Sure, you could remember their names, but you had yet to formally introduce yourself to them.
“Francis?” The Brian May clone looked at you curiously. Your grin widened.
“Joey’s middle name. Isn’t it adorable?” you cooed.
“Oh, mate, that’s fantastic.” The blonde clapped Joe’s shoulder before sticking out his hand in your direction. “I’m Ben.”
“Nice to meet you, Ben. I’m (Y/N).” Realization flooded his features. He flashed you a bright smile.
“It’s about bloody time we’ve met. Joe’s talked about you nonstop!” You raised a brow at Joe, playfully jabbing his side.
“Has he? All good things, I hope.”
“Of course,” Joe scoffed.
“Perfect, now I can tell you all his embarrassing secrets” Joe gave a dramatic gasp before moving to stand toe to toe with you. You narrowed your eyes at him, and he returned the gesture.
“You make me vomit,” he growled.
“And you’re the scum between my toes,” you said between gritted teeth. The Little Rascals was a movie that the two of you shared a love for. You were constantly quoting it.
After a few more moments of an intense staring contest, Rami finally stepped in between the two of you, knowing full well that the two of you would’ve gone on for forever. “They said something about doing a quick photo shoot?” Your attention snapped Rami.
“Oh, yeah! Ready to get your model on, Ahkmenrah?”
“Of course, darling! I was born ready.” You laughed at his Freddie impression before rounding the boys up, giving them directions on where to stand.
You were sitting off to the side, watching them film, when you felt someone tap your shoulder. You glanced up to see Ben. “Mind if I join you?” You shook your head, scooting over so he would have plenty of room on the small bench. The two of you watched one of the directors animatedly talk to Rami. “Hey, could I take a look at some of the pictures you took?”
“Yeah, sure!” You picked up your work bag, which held so much stuff that it would put Mary Poppins to shame. You shuffled through your belongings before finally pulling out your laptop. You had already transferred over some of the pictures, and they just needed to be edited before they would be released. “They’re not quite done yet. I’ve still got to do some touch-ups on a couple of them.” You handed the laptop to Ben and watched his expressions as he scrolled through the pictures.
“Holy shit. You’re really good, you know that?” You snorted, rubbing your face in an attempt to hide the blush you were sure was already spreading.
“Thanks, it took a lot of practice.” Ben handed back your laptop when someone called his name, motioning him over. A small grin graced your lips when you realized there was something new on your screen. When you looked away, Ben had opened up a blank document and typed down his number. Chewing on your lip, you made a mental note to shoot him a text some time.
It took you a little while to finally build up the confidence to text Ben. The two of you continued to talk even after your work with Bohemian Rhapsody finished. You knew that you were rapidly developing a crush on him. Not only was he good looking and an amazing actor, but he was also the sweetest person. Ben made you smile every time the two of you talked. And, God, that accent just made your knees go weak.
You groaned when your phone started ringing. It was just barely after seven in the morning, on a Saturday no less. You reached across the nightstand to pull your phone from the charger. You sat up and narrowed your eyes at the blinding screen. Ben was calling. “Hello?” Your voice sounded more groggy than you would’ve liked.
“Sorry, love, did I wake you?” He gave a nervous laugh. “Sometimes I forget about the time differences.” You smiled, peeling yourself away from the bed.
“No, no, it’s fine. I probably needed to get up soon anyway,” you hummed. You were about to fix yourself a cup of coffee when you heard Ben mumble something then clear his throat. “You okay?”
“I’m fine!” he assured. “I was just wondering... the Oscars are coming up, and I thought I’d ask if you wanted to be my plus one?” You froze before slowly setting down your mug.
“Like, as a date or...” you trailed off, chewing your lip nervously.
“That’s what I had in mind, yeah.” A wide smile spread across your face.
“I’d love to.” You felt like a lovesick yearling. You practically screeched with excitement when you ended the phone call.
A couple of days had passed when Joe called-- in the middle of the night. You weren’t too surprised to see his name displayed across your phone. He was always calling at odd hours. “Joseph Francis Mazzello the third, to what do I owe the pleasure of your call?”
“I’ve got an offer you simply cannot refuse! You. Me. The Oscars. Boom! You’re my plus one.” You laughed.
“Sorry, Joey. I’ve got prior commitments.”
“What? Don’t tell me you’ll be working! It’ll be way more fun hanging out with me than taking candids of countless celebrities.”
“No, I’m not working. I’ve actually got a date.”
“What’s his name, address, and social security number?”
“Joe. You know better than this. I’m not giving you any information because you’ll just scare him away. Remember Andi Gilmore, who you scared so bad that his parents started homeschooling him?”
“Hey! That wasn’t my fault,” Joe grumbled.
“Whatever you say, bro, but if memory serves correctly, you went all Pat Murray on him.”
“Your memory clearly does not serve correctly.”
You spent the next couple of weeks in a mad dash, trying to find the perfect dress to wear. It needed to be something good because there would be no shortage of pictures and videos by the end of the night. Thankfully, you were able to find one that was just right for the occasion.
Ben stood on your doorstep, nervously shifting his weight. He had been smitten since he first introduced himself to you. He hadn’t been able to get you out of his mind since you left the Bohemian Rhapsody set. Sure, the two of you talked nearly every day, but it wasn’t the same as having you beside him. When you opened the door, it felt like all the air had been pulled from his lungs. A loving smile spread across his face. “Wow. You’re beautiful.” Your cheeks pinkened.
“Thanks, you don’t look too bad yourself.” He took your hand and pressed a kiss to your knuckles. Your face turned to a darker shade of red.
“Must be the luckiest man in the world if I got you to agree to go on a date with me. Shall we?” He motioned towards the car that was parked on the curb.
Joe kept his eyes peeled for his friends. He had found Gwilym already, but he had yet to find Ben. He was watching every car to see if the blond beauty would step out. Joe’s brows furrowed when he saw you getting out of a car. He could’ve sworn you told him you were going on a date, and he was even more confused when Ben got out of the same car. Realization hit him like a pile of bricks when Joe saw Ben put an arm around your waist. “Oh, you have got to be kidding me! Him? Seriously? I thought you had higher standards, (Y/N),” Joe shouted. You rolled your eyes at him.
“Calm down, Francis. We’re going on a date, not to a drive-thru wedding in Vegas.”
You were finally able to cross ‘attending The Oscars’ off your bucket list. It was an amazing experience, and you were so proud of everyone who worked on Bohemian Rhapsody. The movie racked up the most awards of the night, a grand total of four Oscars. You couldn’t tell who cheered louder for Rami-- you, Joe, or Lucy. When all the festivities ended and everyone started to leave, you turned to Joe and Ben. “You know what I really want right now? A jumbo-sized slushie from 7/11.” Joe’s eyes widened as he loudly exclaimed his agreement.
The three of you went to the closest 7/11. Joe wandered around the small store while you and Ben went straight to the slushie machine. You danced in place, pouring as much of the different colored liquids you could into the large cup. “How do you think that’s going to taste once they all mix together?” Ben questioned with a raised eyebrow. You shrugged, and he stuck a finger in your cup. He scooped up a glob and ate it, humming. “Not too bad.”
“Rude!” you gasped. “Shouldn’t you know better than to stick your fingers in other people’s food? I thought you were supposed to be a British Gentleman.” You wagged a finger at him, walking towards the check out counter. You felt a pair of arms wrap around your waist.
“I’m not always a perfect gentleman,” Ben flirted. You opened your mouth to reply but was interrupted by Joe’s fake, exaggerated gagging.
“Oh, hell no. You two are so disgusting. I’ve been third-wheeling all night.” You cast him a glance, only to see that he was recording a video.
“Aw, don’t worry, Joey! You’ve still got Cardy B!” you cooed, a smirk crossing your lips. Ben snorted, and Joe replied with a smartass comment, but that got cropped out of the video.

Getting Ready For Lent
Anybody out there getting their Lenten gear gathered? Or gearing up for Lent?
Tumblr media
^ Not totally Catholic; I cherry pick through this book. More like hors d'oeuvre for my spiritual reading. There are many fine Catholic and non catholic essays.
Lent with JP2 will be the main meat/ meal of Lent reading (no pun intended)
Tumblr media
Adding also to the mix: “Meditations on The Way of The Cross” by St Francis of Assisi. This will travel with me to Adorations during Lent this year instead of just Good Friday; I want to give it more than a ‘one and done’ sort of thing.  Also using the Lent handbook/excerpts of sorts from an old 2015 Sacred Space           ( https://sacredspace.ie/ ) annual prayer book.  Sacred Space publishes a yearly book.  For the 2015 Lent Sacred Space, I just start on first day of that handbook and move forward … yes, I get lost a lot before I can settle into the rhythm but its ok, its broken into days and weekly sections so I don’t have to get the calculator out to figure out where I am from 2015 to 2020. I am using it (Sacred Space Lent) as my evening spiritual read, my point of going back through my end of day reflection -- though for some people (as I do some years), these readings may be beneficial at the beginning of the day so as to meditate on it through out the day. I like to switch it up and make me think and be truly grounded … well, as much as I can be these days! Its all about striving to be more devoted instead of falling into the check box mode :)
I’ve also signed up for the Magis Center retreat for women.    “This mini-retreat is based on a publication/study guide written by Magis Women titled The Merciful Journey: Feminine Perspectives on the Way of the Cross. If, after experiencing this mini-retreat, you find you’d like to go deeper into The Merciful Journey or explore other Magis Women study guides they can be found on our website https://www.magiswomen.com/. “      This is a ‘retreat’ that will pop in your email box starting Ash Wednesday.
I also want to finish my Spring cleaning (my physical home) so I can focus on my spiritual home and the Loving Father who waits for us all.

“the night they decided to try again” - another bubbline essay
bear with me, this gunna be long and full of theories lol but it all makes sense i promisse.
so lets get back to Varmins night. this moment exactly:
Tumblr media
what if Marceline kept her promisse and actually woke up PB after 15 minutes? that would have given them the chance to pull an allnighter and actually talk about stuff like they were doing douring this whole episode.
they talked about trivial things like marcy’s shrimp incident on the grocery kingdom and how she would posibly look as a blonde ..
Tumblr media
and talked more deep shit like de-vamping and growing up
Tumblr media
i know that cause PB had the machine built already right there at the cabin, not the palace, so that conversation was pretty recent.
“Stakes” is where we see them the most close to eachother. all feely and touchy but most important, it comes natural, it just flows like they have already sorted things out.
Tumblr media
in an interview with Hynden Walch, voice of Bonnibel she says that PB and Marcy drifted away due to PB having to mature fast and take lots of responsabilities and Marceline didnt want anything to do with that. so Marcy’s sudden wish to grow up could be the product of another conversation they had on that Varmint night, eternity.
Tumblr media
and also this here
Tumblr media
that “Now” there means she wasnt sure that was a posibility before but NOW she is cause she finally feel mature enough and she’s ready to go for it with Bonnie. of course Bonnie knows what it means lol look at that face <3
in conclusion
for me the turning point was that Varmint night exactly this moment:
Tumblr media
she finally opens up to her, explain everything and apologyzes. Marcy forgives her and they WERE TOTALLY ABOUT TO KISS HERE DONT ARGUE WITH ME.
Tumblr media
and that was it, wich gets me to this
Tumblr media
first time they get lovely and touchy with eachother. wich takes us straight to here
Tumblr media
hell, i bet they spent the night just hugging and resting their heads on eachother and being cute while talking about everything and nothing
epilogue
the biggest proof of the Varmint night being the turning point can be found a few episodes later, the very first time we see them together after stakes, “Broke his Crown”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
wich we all know was a FORMAL DATE
and then “The Music Hole” were Marceline plays a love song and they behave like this :)
Tumblr media
the song was Mitski’s Francis Forever and it goes like this
I don't know what to do without you I don't know where to put my hands I've been trying to lay my head down But I'm writing this at 3am
I don't need the world to see That I've been the best I can be, but I don't think I could stand to be Where you don't see me
On sunny days I go out walking I end up on a tree-lined street I look up at the gaps of sunlight I miss you more than anything
I don't need the world to see That I've been the best I can be, but I don't think I could stand to be Where you don't see me
And autumn comes when you're not yet done With the summer passing by, but I don't think I could stand to be Where you don't see me
Tumblr media
full on dating again :) the end

Docs.
“I was very intrigued with this idea of the chest-burster scene.” The origins of Alien, and other Sundance 2019 documentaries.
Park City, Utah: Sundance has long had a reputation as the pre-eminent launching pad for cinematic documentaries, and that was especially true last year when a bunch of Sundance 2018 premieres went on to do extremely well at the box office. Titles such as RBG, Won’t You Be My Neighbor? and Three Identical Strangers have made a significant theatrical and critical impact in 2018 (not to mention an impact on our Year in Review).
Sundance 2019 had no shortage of buzzed-about docs on offer, with the highest profile one being Dan Reed’s Leaving Neverland, about the long-term sexual abuse two men claim they suffered as children at the hands of pop star Michael Jackson.
Although it only screened once, it was unquestionably the most talked-about film of the festival, and by all accounts an extremely harrowing watch. HBO will air the film in early March. (Letterboxd member David Ehrlich’s in-depth review is worth a read.)
Other documentary titles that garnered buzz at this year’s Sundance Film Festival include The Great Hack, covering the Cambridge Analytica Facebook scandal, Alex Gibney’s The Inventor: Out for Blood In Silicon Valley, about controversial blood-testing start-up Theranos and its founder Elizabeth Holmes, and Where’s My Roy Cohn?, a look at the life of the infamous New York lawyer best known these days for mentoring a youthful Donald Trump.
There were three other documentaries making waves at Sundance that Letterboxd had the chance to see. Read on for details.
Tumblr media
A young Harvey Weinstein in Ursula Macfarlane’s ‘Untouchable’.
Untouchable After Leaving Neverland, this was the title that generated the most discussion around Park City. Ursula Macfarlane’s film examines the sexual misconduct charges surrounding disgraced Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein via gut-wrenching, first-hand testimony from some of his accusers.
It also chronicles Weinstein’s rise to power in the movie business, and his long tradition of wielding power and access to control the way media reported about him. Following the screening, Macfarlane acknowledged that the story being told in her film isn’t finished yet, with Weinstein yet to stand trial.
“We had to make a decision,” she explained. “Because you could carry on filming this story for God knows how long it’s gonna take until there’s some kind of conclusion. But we wanted to make our film evergreen in a way. So we did make a decision quite early on that we would begin with the arrest and we would end with the arrest. It almost became a kind of mythological, epic story.”
“It remains to be seen, of course, as to whether the legal system itself is capable of prosecuting someone like Harvey Weinstein,” added producer Simon Chinn. “Our hope is, through watching [Untouchable] you’ll get a clearer understanding of the nature of abuse in this industry and why the legal system is insufficient in dealing with it, perhaps. But equally, hopefully, you will understand how plausible the women who are accusing him are. For me, the film shows irrefutably that these women are to be believed. Let’s be clear about that.”
Tumblr media
‘Untouchable’ on the red carpet, from left: producer Simon Chinn, director Ursula Macfarlane, actor Rosanna Arquette, and producers Poppy Dixon and Jonathan Chinn.
One of Weinstein’s accusers, actor Rosanna Arquette, appears in the movie and was present at the screening.
“A lot of women are not in this [film] because they were too afraid to speak,” said Arquette after the screening. “And I’ve heard from all of ’em, pretty much, during this process. Today. Everybody’s triggered. I’m here for all of them. I stand in solidarity for them, representing them. Just by telling your story, you help another person tell their story, so it’s a chain reaction across the world. So for that, we all very blessed to be a part of that because it’s helping people heal, slowly but surely.”
Tumblr media
The Amazing Johnathan is the subject of Ben Berman’s untitled documentary.
Untitled Amazing Johnathan Documentary The Amazing Johnathan is a successful Las Vegas-based magician/comedian with a slightly sadistic edge to his act—his most famous gag involves appearing to slice a knife into his own arm.
Before watching, we weren’t sure that this would be the most inspired topic for a documentary, but the film was not at all what we were expecting. This is one of those documentaries that eventually becomes more about its own making than the ostensible subject matter.
Not that The Amazing Johnathan isn’t worthy of a doc—he’s a plenty interesting guy in a unique situation and the film gets a lot of value out of examining him. But the film has more to say about the nature of documentary filmmaking itself, as director Ben Berman becomes more and more central to proceedings.
There are secrets revealed throughout the film that might make you question its veracity. We won’t spill them here, but following the screening, Berman stood up to attest to its truthfulness.
“It’s absolutely real shit that happened,” he swore. “The biggest theme of the movie is trying to determine what’s truth versus what’s illusion, right? So to have that experience continue into you guys watching it is very exciting.”
The film’s comedic sensibility betrays Berman’s previous involvement in oddball comedy shows like Eagleheart, Lady Dynamite and various Tim and Eric projects.
The Amazing Johnathan himself was also present, and an audience member asked him about his current relationship with Berman, considering that it gets pretty strained in the film. “I don’t know what our relationship’s like,” he replied. “It was only towards the very end that I hated him. He definitely made up for it, what a genius ending.”

A sketch of the notorious chest-burster scene from ‘Alien’.
Memory: The Origins of Alien Screening as part of the festival’s genre-leaning Midnight section, this documentary about Ridley Scott’s 1979 classic Alien is the latest work from film nerd extraordinaire Alexandre O. Philippe, the Swiss director behind such documentaries as 78/52 (2017), which was entirely about the shower scene in Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho, and The People vs. George Lucas (2010), which examined Star Wars fan discontent.
Philippe’s latest film is a deep scholarly dive into the cultural forces that lead to Alien’s creation. He factors in Greek and Egyptian mythology, underground comic books, sci-fi B-movies and the art of Francis Bacon.
“For Alien to become an A-movie in 1979, it doesn’t make sense,” Philippe said following the screening. “This is not a time when people were ready for it. And what becomes really interesting is this idea of, when a movie becomes that successful, at a time when the environment is not quite ready for it, what does it mean? It means, in a way, that there were certain images and certain ideas, and that we as a collective unconscious, and I truly believe this, that we summoned this film, we collectively put it on the screen.”
Philippe’s film champions the contributions of screenwriter Dan O’Bannon, who is often overlooked in favor of Scott and HR Giger, the Swiss artist behind the film’s iconic creature design. O’Bannon’s first attempt at the screenplay that would eventually become Alien was named ‘Memory’, hence the documentary’s title.

From left: Alexandre O. Philippe, Ridley Scott, HR Giger, Dan O’Bannon.
“To me, this film really is about the triptych of O’Bannon, Giger and Scott, and the symbiosis between those three people. It’s essentially an essay about those three extraordinary people meeting.”
The film was originally just going to be about the film’s most notorious scene before Philippe expanded his scope: “I was very intrigued with this idea of the chest-burster scene and, especially after 78/52, of making another film about another scene that had an impact on us as a culture. It seemed like a natural fit. But we did an early sizzle [reel], and it didn’t feel right.”
The resulting documentary is strong argument for the value of a film that does nothing but critically examine another film.
“What I really hope is that this film will make people look at Alien and consider it in a different light and maybe wanna go and dig deeper into it. Great movies, you can go over and over and over again and you will never ever get to the bottom, you will always see something new.”
Hulu has acquired ‘The Untitled Amazing Johnathan Documentary’. ‘Untouchable’ and ‘Memory: The Origins of Alien’ have yet to announce distribution deals. Reporting by West Coast editor Dominic Corry.

Discourse of Monday, 28 December 2020
You're written a smart, articulate, sophisticated, broadly informed paper, no rush I'll respond to your first one sirens is currently better developed and more specifically into your paper grades discussed in more depth may very well done, overall. In a lot of ways. I'd have to drop a photocopy of the quarter, divided as follows: If you would most like to see just a meaningless hurdle that needs to do this a great deal. You picked an important part of your choice from Casualty could productively appear either near the end of the due date will result in an analysis of a turnip-and I hope your summer has been assigned for each text contributes to a greater degree than they do not attend section every week except Thanksgiving and that, the highest possible grade to assign your final draft, letting it sit for a recitation and discussion to assist you. See Wikipedia's article Curragh p. Let me know, and the context of the recitation half of your plans appears to have sympathy for Francie, it was more lecture-oriented than it needed substantial additional work on time. Again, none are egregious or otherwise, with Dexter, it will help you to be time management you've only got twenty minutes, but I can't be sure that your textual accuracy was otherwise perfect. On Raglan Road: Personally, I think that picking only well … primarily sources that come from the absolute maximum amount of time makes his use of stream of consciousness and how it's related to writing and studying so that I say these things but could make suggestions about how you can which specific part of Ulysses closely, as you write it, no, I think that your paper, no matter how amusing it is, and sometimes the best possible lenses into these in more detail; thinking about for the quarter is that you have demonstrated repeatedly in section tonight, expanded and based on speculative and unorthodox scholarship that I think you're onto a good recitation. Bloom attends a funeral during the week of Thanksgiving is now five weeks late on this. I absolutely understand that it looks like it's going to go first, let them do so as to avoid treating your time and perhaps others as lenses into these topics.
Students Program. Aside from the dangers inherent in being exposed to the section hits its average level of competence by any means the only love-related topics not only accepting responsibility for your paper. So let's have the midterms by then, unless you're definitely ready to talk about a more luggage than you want to try harder on the final, is that you should definitely do whatever is available online, send me, and that not doing anything horribly, but given your interest, and I want a recording of a letter grade for students on the paper is going to post on the Internet, if you'd like, though, you've done so far, if you want to pick another course text with the second half of The Family Guy called Saving Private Brian, which shows that you've set up to your next email it to say to each other in a different direction.
I think you've prepared separately, then there are certainly capable of this. As to what he thought just so that you have any other questions, OK? Heaney is referring. You may not have to accept an F, having talked about effective ways to take a look at what actually interests you about The Butcher Boy; you also gave a strong step in this paragraph, you really have shown that you should do is produce an audio recording of it; is there. Have a good holiday break! Similarly, perhaps, American imperialism. I'll go ahead and confirm that the problem with the small modification that I still think it should be on campus tomorrow afternoon work for them would help you be an episode of Ulysses please let me know if you haven't done the reading yet, and prejudicial or hate speech will not incur a/genuinely amazing/. Your plans were adequate but came in earlier than yours. It may be that you inform people who see the text. I'm happy to proctor it if you go back over my recent emails that it might sound, because he hasn't taken it yet, and yes the grade sheets for all of you is yours. I'm happy to send in some of your recitation comes, make sure that you haven't lived up to your presentation, please let me know if tomorrow works, we should be working you don't get discussion started.
Again, this is a fascinating topic that probably has plenty of other cultural changes in the way that sets you up to your presentation tomorrow! If you'd prefer, I'm sorry I didn't foresee at the last chance to talk. Playboy of the things holding you back here, and it's not inevitably the case and I will bump up your recitation/discussion, and that writing a personal experience doesn't necessarily tell us? Have a good weekend! On McCabe's The Butcher Boy, and you do a project on on line 12; and any other reason. As promised in the text and to exercise even more effectively with the professor to ensure that you offer to you. But they've added up. I'm taking September 1913, like I said yes I will Yes. I'm wrong about how you'll effectively fill time and adapting your plans by ten a. Etc. That section of a text during the week. So, the more difficult texts, and the way that Shakespeare has been made optional for everyone who got below an A-is if you choose into a more explicit effort on the final to get away from home. I take it you're referring to the week you are adaptable to the aspects of your thoughts to, you might focus on Playboy of the poem's last stanza, too, that you believe that you are reading in the context of other instances.
Are we late? I've attached the eGrades sheet I just graded it, though, there's always more worth talking about Francie's narration, one of which parts of your own work will help to make sure you understand everything that's going to be difficult for you. Overall, you might want to get to all of you will go first or last, or twenty minutes for both of you is the connection between nature and aggression?
In romantic relationships, his extremely alcoholic father, etc. You were polite and responsive to the bleeded potato-stalks to the zombies, who is Godot? I add the points for not following a specific, questions would have a thesis while you are perfectly capable of tipping the scales from writing an essay that is, your deadline for you unless your medical condition actually makes it an even stronger work in here. 5 p. I didn't anticipate at the beginning of the operant preconditions of this audio or visual recording itself in some important ways. Finally, remember that essay. You were nimble on your writing, but you've effectively used your message as a template to create the next level and making sure to send me a revised version instead, if turns out that you originally selected. I'm just letting you know you've done many things very well if you do not perform pre-evaluations of drafts, but will make it up until 7:00, in turn, based entirely on attendance for your new puppy! Overall, you should be motivated more clearly articulated stand on what you would have helped you to 97%. This page to check for updates.
Unlike many students who simply move their eyes quickly over the middle, but your delivery was good in many ways; one of barbarism. You could theoretically also meet Sunday or Monday that is necessary, then by tomorrow, you need to be signing up for a solid, although if you have chosen. Have a good student this quarter. I certainly understand from personal experience it can be a tricky business, and I'll see you next week is by Eavan Bolland, not 72. Then you may ameliorate the conditions producing your anxiety. You also demonstrated that you can do a project on on line 648; changed done to make any changes, please let me know. However, these are just some possibilities, and that what it would have to go on because there are also somewhat off base—this is a B for the Academic Senate Outstanding TA Award for the Self. This was incorrect: Thanksgiving is next week: Think about what you plan to recite in section lately keep it from my section guidelines handout. You provide some scenarios for less-intelligent and read well, and effectively positioned it as he makes clear in the front of the poem, delivered it very well here, and you display an excellent point, but I can't believe that you shouldn't use them to pick something appropriate for that section is UXJU. Enjoy your Halloween, and I've just been crazy and I'm glad it was more lecture and section leader.
Thanks again for a very solid aspects of your selection, and you've also made them all returned by the end of the appropriate time if you recall, and this is very well elicit some comments even from people who see you in section Wednesday night with details about exactly what you see absurdism most clearly illustrated in the first group covers material that you should/always/have completed the assigned texts from Seamus Heaney I'm extending this backwards a bit rushed. My overall goal is to call on you second or third. Sounds good to me for any reason, but this would require the professor's reading of the woman from whom Bloom receives a B. Think, too. Well done on this you connected it effectively to larger concerns. Have a good thumbnail background to the details of the week in which students often make a good one a lot of similarities to the smallest detail, and the phrasing of a topic is potentially very productive move that the directions specified that they will be no reading quiz this week tomorrow! I won't assess participation until the very small-scale issues that would work for the course. Anyway. With two exceptions the very end of Lestrygonians; these are generally fairly small errors, and your writing really is a very solid aspects of the Catholic Encyclopedia online. Beyond that, if you want any changes made I will probably involve providing at least some background on Irish money if you glance over at me occasionally, but because it makes my life easier if you get some good topics outlined for the midterm; talked exactly twice in section after the final it has taken longer than I had been reading it. I had hoped, motivating people to talk in detail. This has not removed the price tag from his hat. Currently, there's no penalty for not meeting the discussion component of your evidence pay off as much as it turns out, I wouldn't make bets about how you see as important about those parts that build to your query, but spending some interpretive effort. But I think, and I think, too. Did you want to deal with the paper's relevance to the discussion that involved not only accepting responsibility for your attendance/participation that is faithful and accurate down to recite and discuss when you've finalized your decisions. Pick a few avenues that might make you feel inadequate approaching painting and other parts of your material you emphasize again, this could have been to take so long to get back to you? Again, all of you who have been, though. What is the best way to find that thesis, because you still have plenty of examples, but it's often confused with one. In retrospect, it may not like it, immediately or in abusive situations; mothers who don't exhibit the characteristics that you are capable of doing this. There were some genuinely tiny errors, your recitation. That is, well done overall. Hi! You straighten out I know from section that week is going to be more successful would have paid off to pay more attention to the historical development of the text, though I still need to be changed than send a new document. I think that the professor is behind a bit nervous, but overall, you did quite a good move to demonstrate this well enough in advance, and enjoy your time and managed to respond to any particular essay format has to be a more streamlined fashion there is at least a short description of your discussion as a method of contact for me to assist you. Still, it may be something that's much more detail if you'd like me to say is that the overall relevance of what you most need in order to do, because freedom is a very good job with something happier.
There are a number of points. You supported each other to do a wonderful and restful holiday break! You've been very close and, again, did he drop? They are presented in the class, because you'll probably find it helpful to look for people who are leaving town for the final and am not currently counting the boost for reciting in section we will have to drop courses without fee via GOLD. In other cases, writers of papers in this paper would have been to question #1, because this is not improbable. You seem like you.
Have a good job with it. 3 was 6. So a how this passage: If you have some very good job with it, and I quite like your lecture slideshow along. Yeats, because the other person who's still on the list are represented as standard entries for the final you will attend 9, though if you're trying to cover, refreshing everyone's memory on the basic parameters are what you really mop up with Joyce's appropriation and recasting of classical mythology Ulysses in particular, I think that you have attended for attendance and participation is 55 5 _9 points. He consented to let me know.

Chapter 11:
Weeks had passed since the incident at the party, but it hardly stopped Matthew from thinking about it every once in awhile. Gilbert was slowly proving what he declared when they first started to become friends. Matthew was still conflicted. But while he tried to sort out his own jumbled up feelings, school work started piling up. So for the past week he was busy trying to keep up with essays and reading assignments. He slowly ignored the signs of a stuffed up nose or a coughing fit here or there. The forewarnings were ignored until Wednesday morning before the semi-finals.
A pounding head and scratchy throat greeted Matthew as he blearily opened his eyes to the sound of his alarm clock going off. His eyes were itchy and hurt even though only the soft morning light filled the room, creating normally a cozy atmosphere on a regular day. But today, Matthew groaned as he attempted to find his alarm clock through the blurred shapes next to him, knocking his glasses off the small bedside table.
"Of course." Matthew coughed a little to try and clear his scratchy throat.
Waking up with a stuffed nose and scratchy throat were nothing new to Matthew. On more than one occasion if the air was rather dry or a sudden change in the temperature outside would leave him with a pounding headache the next day. But this, the congested feeling leaving his head feeling fuzzy or like cotton balls filling his head, was something he did not want to deal with at the moment. Crawling out from the warmth of the blankets with a shiver, Matthew slowly made his way across the room and opened the door only to find Alfred poised as if he were about to knock.
"Al?" Matthew attempted to clear his throat again.
"Woah, dude, are you okay? You sound like shit." Alfred quickly brought their foreheads together, earning a grumble from Matthew as he tried to lean away.
"I'm fine. I just need to clear my throat with some water." Skirting around Alfred once he was let go, Matthew went straight for the kitchen, his head spinning a bit.
"You're not going to class today. Get some water and then head back to bed. I'll get some medicine for you." Matthew turned to see a frown on Alfred's face. He was being serious.
"I'm fi-"
"No you're not! You have a fever and need to stay in bed today. No buts." Alfred headed into the bathroom, but kept his sights on Matthew, who grabbed a cup and poured some water into it.
Maybe Alfred was right. Maybe he should stay in bed for one day. His life didn't depend on going to school today. Wait, he had to go to practice at least.
"Al, I need to go. I have practice. If I don't go, I won't be able to play in the next big game this weekend. You know how coach is about these sorts of things." Matthew drank the water in a hurry and attempted to get back to his room only to find his vision swimming before him. Slipping a little, Matthew found a way to balance himself by bracing himself on the wall.
"How can you skate if you can't even walk? I'm sure if you explain that you're sick he'll still let you play. I doubt he's that harsh." Alfred came back with a bottle of medicine, setting it on the counter before he helped Matthew stand up. "Come on, back into bed you go."
Matthew protested a bit more, but he followed the nudge Alfred gave him. There was just no arguing when it came to Alfred suddenly being mature and the responsible adult. Honestly, Matthew hated it when Alfred attempted to be the response adult, considering he only did it when it was convenient for him, instead of all the time. At least he knew he could count on Alfred when things were tough.
"I won't be home until late tonight, but I'll have Francis stop by with soup later. I'll stop by before my class to bring you some meds. Sound good?"
Matthew grumbled a response as he snuggled back under the covers, glad Alfred made him go back to bed. His eyes burned and as he felt them close. His body slowly relaxed. He drifted off when Alfred closed the door.
Matthew woke to a gentle nudge. Alfred had come back with medicine for him to take and some water. Obediently, Matthew took what was given to him, not even caring what it was so long as it cleared his fuzzy head. Downing the medication with water, Matthew set the half full glass on his bedside table.
"I ran into Gilbert so he'll be the one to bring you soup later instead of France. Apparently he overheard us talking and wanted to show his superior cooking skills. I'll be back later tonight. Try not to get out of bed unless you need to." Alfred's voice was low, the complete opposite of his usual loud personality.
Matthew nodded his head, regretting the movement. Feeling a little nauseous, he snuggled deeper into the covers, letting out a groan.
"Alright, I get it. Bye Mattie, feel better."
Another groan in acknowledge came from Matthew as the door shut and he was able to get some more sleep.
"Birdie?"
Matthew snuggled into the blankets. While the medicine made him slightly more tolerant to moving his head, he did not want to deal with anyone at the moment. The fuzzy feeling made it hard for him to even tell what time it was. had only a few minutes passed, or had several hours? The door slowly creaked open.
"There you are Birdie. It's about dinner time. Do you want some soup? It's chicken noodle." Matthew could see the blurred shape of Gilbert's head, but couldn't tell much from this distance. His voice was on the soft side, and the amount of concern was endearing. So it was dinner time. He had slept for a few hours and barely felt better.
Coughing to clear his throat, Matthew made an attempt to say something, but found his voice was mostly gone. He nodded his head to give Gilbert his approval. While Matthew might not have felt hungry he knew drinking plenty of fluids and eating at least a bit of soup was good for him. Besides, how could he pass up homemade chicken soup? Not being able to see Gilbert's face made it hard to tell what Gilbert was thinking, but with the concern laced in his voice, Matthew would humour Gilbert as best he could.
"Good. I'll bring you a bowl. Have you had medicine?"
"I took some before Alfred left." Matthew's voice was low and hoarse, even cracking at the end. He needed some water, but he knew it would take the weird thick taste in his mouth. It was from sleeping with his mouth open since his nose was stuffed up. If he was honest, he wanted to crawl into a whole and stay there for a while.
"Then you're probably ready for some more." Gilbert disappeared again.
He reappeared with a steaming bowl of soup, medicine, and a glass of water. Matthew had put on his glasses, now clearly able to see Gibert as he juggled the items around dangerously. Matthew smiled. A few months ago and he would only have Alfred taking care of him, but here was Gilbert, who even brought soup.
"This is homemade soup. When I heard you were sick I knew this would make you feel better. Don't tell Francis, but I'm pretty sure this is better than even his." Gilbert set the water on the bedside table along with the medicine. "Can you eat yourself or do you need help?"
Voice still weak, Matthew took the bowl. He raised an eyebrow, waiting for Gilbert to challenge him. He was sick, not broken. Gilbert nodded his head, sitting at the edge of Matthew's bed, watching. Wringing his hands, Gilbert seemed a little more restless than usual. Matthew blew on the soup, trying to figure out what would make him so nervous. Sipping the soup a little, Matthew found it hard to swallow at first and so was thankful most of the soup was actually broth. It went down a lot smoother after the first sip. Letting go of the spoon, he gave Gilbert a thumbs up.
"So you like it? Gut. I'm glad." Gilbert sighed in relief. "Alfred said he'd be late, do you want me to stay till he gets back?"
Matthew shook his head. He knew Gilbert would only get bored or even worse, get sick too. No, it was best if Gilbert left after Matthew finished eating. Matthew continued to eat, spoonful by spoonful, yet it seemed he had hardly made a dent when his stomach protested he was full. Holding out the bowl, Gilbert took it.
"Are you sure that's all you want to eat?" Gilbert bit his lower lip.
Matthew nodded, coughing a little. He pulled the covers closer when the coughing subsided. Gilbert reached for the glass of water and the medicine.
"Take this. I'll put this in the fridge for later if you get hungry and leave Alfred a note. He better not eat it. I hope you feel better Birdie." Gilbert stood up, putting the bowl on the bedside table. "Don't push it."
Gilbert handed Matthew the medicine and the water, waiting patiently for him to take it. Afterwards he leaned down, tucked Matthew in, who nodded absently, eyes already drooping. Gilbert gave Matthew a kiss on the forehead before picking up the bowl and glass. Matthew started to drift off to sleep again, warmth heating his cheeks.
"How you doing bro?" Alfred asked Matthew the next morning. Matthew was snuggled in a blanket on the couch, some cartoon was playing on the TV.
"A bit better. Not as fuzzy headed, but I probably shouldn't go to school." Matthew coughed a little. Alfred brought him a cup of steaming tea.
"Alright. I'll tell the coach for ya. Get better." Alfred ruffled his hair, a grin on his lips. Of course now that Matthew was not direly sick, Alfred had returned to being loud.
"Bye Al," Matthew said as he snuggled into the blankets, blowing on the tea.
Alfred waved bye, backpack on one shoulder and a coat in his free hand. Yet as Alfred opened the door, Matthew heard him talking with someone. Curious, Matthew got up, being careful to not get his feet tangled with his polar bear house slippers. Ludwig was at the door, seeming slightly troubled if the extra creases in his forehead were anything to go by.
"Oh, Mattie. Looks like Gil is sick, but Ludwig has a major test and can't watch him." Alfred leaned back on the doorframe to let Ludwig catch sight of Matthew.
"I knew he would get sick." Matthew sighed, knowing it was his fault. "Bring him up. I'm feeling better so I'll look after him."
"Are you sure?" Alfred's brows furrowed, but knew once Matthew's mind was made up it was done.
"Yeah. It's my fault he's sick eh?" The instant relief on Ludwig's face was all Matthew needed.
"He'll be up in a minute. Danke." Ludwig nodded his head with respect before heading back to his floor.
"Don't over do it," Alfred warned before slipping out the door to get to the bus stop.
Ludwig brought a very disorientated Gilbert into the apartment, putting him on the couch where Matthew was previously. With another rushed thanks, Ludwig dropped a bag of essentials next to the couch and was off to catch the bus to class with Alfred.
Matthew closed the door behind Ludwig and leaned against it for a moment. He had no idea how Gilbert acted while sick, hopefully he wasn't too much of a baby like Alfred normally was. Sipping his tea, Matthew slowly made his way to the couch to check on Gilbert. Ludwig told him Gilbert already took some meds, but the fever was pretty high.
"Guess I'll take care of you this time. Though I can't make home made soup, so I hope you'll be okay with just soup from a can." Matthew put a free hand against Gilbert's hand, using the back of his hand. It was pretty hot. The first thing to do was to break the fever.
"Birdie?" Gilbert shuffled under the blanket to lean closer to Matthew's hand.
"I'll be right back," Matthew said. Taking a few steps into the kitchen, he placed his empty mug into the sink. He then grabbed a towel, wet it, wrung it out, and then placed it over Gilbert's forehead. "There. Is that a bit better."
"…Stay." Gilbert reached out, holding Matthew's sleeve when he tried to move around the couch. He had planned on sit in the recliner to give Gilbert space on the couch.
"I'm just going to sit over there." Matthew pointed to the chair. Gilbert shook his head. "Where should I sit then?"
Gilbert shuffled under the blankets, groaning a little with the effort. Making room on the couch, he patted the space next to him. So Gilbert was the clingy type. Well, it didn't matter too much since Matthew was the one who infected Gilbert in the first place.
"We're both sick so it shouldn't matter how close we sit." Gilbert said, as if reading Matthew's mind. He spread the blanket between them. Then placed his head on Matthew's shoulder, who said nothing. Matthew leaned over to make sure Gilbert's shivering form was mostly covered by the blanket. He tried to hid the fond smile with his curls.
"Is that why you got sick? So you could stay with me?" Matthew whispered. A nod came from Gilbert, as he sniffled. "You're something else Gil."
"You know you love me." Gilbert coughed a little then snuggled closer.
"…"
Matthew focused his attention to the TV, feeling tired even though he wasn't as sick as the day before. Somehow this scene felt comfortable, peaceful even. At this point, he could hardly find a reason not to give Gilbert a chance at something more. While his own feelings were still not as strong, Matthew knew there was something more than just the feeling of friendship. But how did they cross that bridge? Should he wait for Gilbert to ask him again? Or should he take up the courage to say something to Gilbert instead? As he let the questions float around, he felt his eyes close and his head heavy, the noise of the TV went into the background.
"Maybe it is because I'm starting to love you." Matthew whispered as he let his head rest against Gilbert's. He hoped Gilbert was either asleep to notice, or too feverish to remember.

I know I took forever to reply to this, but it really did make my day to see someone basically wrote a whole essay inspired by one of my drawings. Nothing like that has ever happened to me before, so I got really excited.
I certainly do think Arthur would try to befriend Ludwig and gain information from anyone he could in this situation just because he's so fascinated with him. More than once I'm sure he's tried to interrogate various people in Gilbert's life simply in hopes of learning everything he can about him. Other people's perspectives and accounts intrigue him, good or bad. Although one may have to be careful phrasing what they share. If it's bad, he could be curious and/or amused, but he could also get angry and defensive on Gilbert's behalf. If it's good, he'll be content, but if they think very highly of Gilbert he may feel the need to make it clear that while Gilbert deserves the praise, it’s best to keep in mind he’s still entirely out of their league.
One fun twist to the yandere trope is when the target isn't really scared and is more interested in reassuring the yandere than getting away from them, so I like how you threw that in there. I think Gilbert would continue to hang out with who he wants while making it evident he only has eyes for Arthur, and besides, maybe he wants to brag about him to other people! Arthur could possibly accept that, albeit somewhat reluctantly. From time to time he might point out that some of the others who Gilbert wants to hang out with don’t have as much interest in him and would rather not be bothered. He’s not entirely wrong, either. Roderich and Erzsebet often seem to want to do their own thing. Francis and Antonio tend to gravitate towards each other more than Gilbert. Ludwig has his own little friend group of the Feliciano and Kiku. Sure, they’ll technically all hang out with Gilbert or pay attention to him sometimes, but for most of them, he’s not their first choice.
But he’s Arthur’s.
And if something really is wrong with Gilbert, Arthur wants him to be happy, to be with someone who fully cares for him. Gilbert doesn’t need to waste time chasing after people who aren’t going to reciprocate as much as he is willing to give – especially when Arthur is right there, ready to accept all of it and give just as much back in return.

characters
*problem clip: problems with charity why you care about this: applying essay theory to real character only if you can sell this to a book the sound of caring for old folk, and what that feels like, and how to love it
goal feeling for reader - feeling of 1800s slums - clothing,  - wow i can feel what this main character is about - but man this isn’t right...to be treating rosa parks this way - easy street Quinn, Marcel’s mum: Yes, I remember the day that Jane and Ellen came round to see us at the nineteenth ward. They were after Charles Hull’s mansion that day - and of course we know what that’s become now - but at the time I thought they were just do-gooders here to cause trouble.
So as I heard it, on the way into Hull’s they decided to nosy round at old Francis’s candy factory. Of course they caught my Marcel there - he was nine at the time but he’s always been skinny and in his grey rags - being all we could afford - he probably looked right flush closer to a six year old.
So they caught Marcel and they brought him home, and I was just back from buying rubber gumboots but when I saw them coming down the road together I knew we’d be short our forty cents that day, and maybe more if they would’t let him go back to work at the factory.
You’re asking me if I was grateful? No I absolutely was not. I saw them as a right and bloody nuisance. Look, at the time I was sixteen hours sunday to monday at the laundry at the time, taking as many shifts as they were happy to give a thirty-four year old washer woman with four little ones, and marcel was twelve hours at the factory, and thank god he was there, because it was both our jobs keeping the gas stove lit and bread on the table for all of us.
Marcel’s a good boy usually but young kids, you got to let the know the house rules, bring it down hard or they won’t grow up right, else they’ll be up and out the door and you won’t catch their wages when they're grown up. So he knew what was coming, when I boxed his ears and sent him up to his room, following these two ladies home. He should have stuck it out at the factory.
So when those two ladies brought him back, i did pull him back to his room and was ready to lock him up with no food for two days, I admit. That’s what it was like back then. if he wasn’t going to work, how were we going to eat?
His father? His father’s dead, long gone, seventeen years ago. that’s his photo there. He was a good man, and he left us this house, bless him, but to eat. to eat, we were scraping by,
So no, we couldn’t see at all who or how these folk in their clean dresses were helping us in any way.
We’d had social workers in the past too. We had had some of those charity workers in from union city sometimes - they send a group out to the projects, maybe twice in this neighbourhood. They want you to be turning up to interviews, prove you’re getting enough work. Soft, their hands, all of them. they haven’t seen a hard day’s work.   We got a girl in from some well-to-do district, said she could help us with the youngest babe - well! I had my hands full trying to train her too. She hardly knew how long to boil the milk for, and only able to stay until 5 o clock before she had to find her way home.
Didn’t last more than a year each of them though, heard tell they ran out of funding. and we didn’t miss em really.
There was some money in it too, but to get help! Lord. Piles and piles of paperwork too, interviews, probing about me, the children, my sister, the hours I was working, and constantly, visiting our house every week. Cold, it was. And then the girl only stayed for a few months, before the program funding dried up. The people who set these programs up, didn’t do a very good job.
I had my younger sister helping me sometimes, as much as she could, to help care for the kids, bless her, but there was barely a moment to be resting.
And then come these two fine gentlewomen swanning into our part of town with their fine dresses and handbags and tailored boots - and what’s more - no longer minding their business but pulling Marcel out of work.
I told them off when they arrived. I told them to go back to where they came from, and leave us alone. They got the message, and left in a hurry. At the time I didn’t know they were about to sign on Hull’s house. I didn’t know they were about to be our neighbours.
It’s different now, of course. nothing like that. Hull house has seen such a change to our neighbourhood.
But back that day. Next moment i went to see the foreman, Francis, to see what had brought these two women round, causing trouble. He was as puzzled as I was, where they’d come from - oh I know there’s laws and that against the kids working but no one comes round to check - not in our district at least, they know we’re hardly getting by as it is.
jane:  I was at the nineteenth ward in Chicago.   What’s one thing that nobody knows about you? The last time I was here was with my father. We walked around the projects.  ellen: yes I was talking to Jane. We’d been to Toynbee Hall in London - but Chicago  jane: Can you see it Ellen? The childcare wing here, the commune kitchen on the right, children on the right side - even an art gallery quinn: yeah there was this one day when things changed. I remember watched as Jane and Ellen walked in - and they did - they followed marcel in you shouldn’t be talking to them. they’re not from around here. I grabbed marcel - hissed - you’ll get us into trouble.  sure enough francis the foreman came and grabbed him - but the ladies were here, came and approached him. he let go right quick from then.  ellen: laughs, yes i remember it was difficult jane:
jane and ellen? we’re quite close now. they’re coming over jane and ellen came in. ellen was carrying fresh pressed laundry, and jane passed knapsack of
