Yes!! Of course I do!! So, GerIta was my first ever ship in like anything! I was so captivated by their dynamic and how they interact in hetalia it made my heart flutter a lot!! I just can’t describe how giddy GerIta makes me!! ENOUGH BABBLING HERE ARE MY HEADCANONS!!!

(Keep in mind, a lot of these developed from my middle/high school interpretation!! So yeah!!)

My biggest headcanon for them is that Germany is Holy Rome! I know in more recent years Hima has denied this and what not, but a lot of it feels like back tracking to me?? Like it doesn’t add up with hints given earlier in the series?? Idk!! So, to this day I like to believe Germany is Holy Rome and he finally found Italy again!! It makes my younger middle school self happy!

Italy’s hands are always warm and Germany’s hands are always cold! I’m a sucker for these kinds of things!! I think Italy constantly takes Germany’s hands in his own to warm them up, and he peppers them with tons of kisses (which usually makes Germany flustered BAHAH)

A long standing headcanon l’ve had for specifically Italy is that he has some sort of tic disorder/tourettes. I was diagnosed with Tourette’s when I was 14, so you can see where this probably started BAHAH. But it makes sense from my point of view! He’s constantly moving around, singing and humming, etc etc. I also headcanon this specifically because of his “Ve” sound. This very much reads to me like a vocal tic, as I make similar noises. And thanks to Italy being one of my favorite characters, I have also adopted the “Ve” tic in my real life (which does not help me seem cool and mysterious in public 🙄) The reason I bring this up is because I think when Italy’s tics get really overwhelming/he’s having a tic attack, Germany is the perfect candidate to apply deep pressure therapy. It’s probably one of the few times Germany initiates physical contact instead of Italy initiating it! He’ll hug Italy tight, tight enough to apply firm pressure and calm his nervous system down!

Germany is a workaholic, we all know this! So I headcanon that Italy takes care of him when he works himself too hard. Italy constantly checks in to make sure he’s drinking water, makes sure he’s eaten, and often tries to get him to take breaks! If he realizes Germany is not keen on taking breaks, Italy will suggest one under the guise of needing help. “Germany, I’m trying to reach something in the closet but I can’t get it. Can you come help me?” And once Germany is out of his office, he’ll try his best to keep him from working as long as he can! He can be pretty sneaky and mischievous as long as it’s for the greater good! Germany very well has caught onto these tricks, but his loyal need to help Italy no matter what usually overrides his need to work.

Germany is the big spoon and Italy is the little spoon! Germany is quite protective of his loved ones, and he feels best when he can provide them with safety. This results in him being the big spoon when he and Italy cuddle this way. He gets to hold Italy close and keep him out of harms way, all to himself. And then once the sensation of Italy’s body pressed against his kicks in, he (like always) gets very flustered. He’ll hide his face in the crook of Italy’s neck as he tries to calm down his racing heart. No matter how many times they get this close, Germany always gets flustered!

Italy was the first one (besides Prussia) to see Germany cry. Italy was very shocked when he first realized it was happening, but the shock had completely subsided once he realized how stressed and how scared Germany must’ve felt. He took him in his arms hurriedly, holding him gently to try and bring him comfort. Italy knew he could be pretty “useless” at the time, but if he could provide just an inkling of comfort to Germany then he did a job well done. To his surprise, Germany clung to him with so much force, Italy felt like he might’ve been crushed!

LAST ONE FOR NOW!!!! Italy often asks Germany to model for him for paintings! He loves painting Germany!! He is just so enamored by his beauty, he loves getting to make art of him, for him, etc etc! Italy has a little art studio where he does all of his paintings, and most of his paintings are of his partner! Germany is just very artistically inspiring!!!

i was thinking of the strip in which italy loses the iron cross given to him by germany today. it was a bit of a throwaway gag but the necklace always remained in a lot of fanart as a representation of their friendship and bond. i think it’s cute, but even italy losing the damn thing aside, it doesn’t have much of an appropriate application or use in modern day settings.

though the iron cross predates WWII and isn’t technically an offensive symbol on its own (i most commonly see it being used by punks and other self identifying anti-conformist subcultures) it’s also likely still used as a dog whistle in conjunction with other things. it just doesn’t work beyond WWII settings in my opinion.

i’ve thought that maybe modern-day germany could give italy a new necklace, removed from any symbology related to nationality or pacts/alliances and instead related to their own humanity and friendship. the regular cross/crucifix is an obvious choice, because it is commonly worn by men (catholic and otherwise) and can be an understated design. but it lacks a more personal meaning.

beyond that, germany sometimes lacks taste (tomato ring?? i mean it’s cute but like wtf) so we can only hope that maybe he bought something italy was already eyeing or got help from romano. perhaps he’d think it was too personal of a gift to give and instead opted for something like a rosary. he’s a sucker for acts of service and gift-giving, i feel like he just wants to adorn him in all sorts of pretty and/or practical things.

unless we’re talking about established gerita. i think germany would propose with a ring that compliments the undertones of italy’s skin, but wedding rings are an entirely separate can of worms. collars too.

unpopular headcanon: that him being the vessel for ludwig's soul or whatever is not a good thing. it's not sweet or anything. it's grim, man. it's fucking grim. and it's something i hope hima never canonizes. for this kind of stuff, i think our theories and speculation are better/more fun than what hima can come up with (and, to be fair to the man, i wouldn't be surprised if he knows that too)

It's cute! I haven't thought too much about it past that. I think there's some potential there.

I dig this one. I should probably be further on the makes sense axis actually, it's pretty much default for me for both of them to the point that when I do ship/write Germany with other people, it's pretty common that there's an open or at least sort of fluid on-again-off-again thing with Italy in the background, if that makes sense. (I tend towards feeling nations don't do monogamy very well but ymmv.)

Gerita: Basically, it's canon and I'm so glad for this! Their relationship is so adorable and pure. Germany who is a total wreck and has gay panics and Italy being oblivious awww. Nice moments, mutual respect and interest, healthy relationship, I mean that's just so perfect and fluff! 10/10

Prucan: I've heard about this one several times and I gotta say I like their relationship! I remember drawing a fanart of them once which was very fun to draw since I like both characters. And I think their personalities match too. It gives extroverted x introverted vibes. Bunch of cute moments would be there in my opinion so 9/10 a proper/more interaction would be even better!

Fruk: This is one my favourite one! Rival x Rival, enemies to lovers, extrovert x introvert, childhood friends/rivals and more can be listed. And I love how France tries so hard to get England's attention or just tease him and we all know Eng is a big tsundere haha. But overall 10/10!

Are there any popular fandom OTPs you only BroTP?

-GerIta. They have a close relationship. It can sometimes be cute. But I don't see it romantically unless Italy is given a personality overhaul. In both canon and a lot of fanon he just comes off as too infantilised for me to really imagine romance working out. It's weird because I could potentially see Germany having a crush on Italy...but it also doesn't make sense to me that he would, unless Italy is portrayed a lot more maturely. I also want to see people lean more into Italy's flirty, vain side. But yeah, anyway, I just see it as a close platonic relationship, for the most part.

-FrUK. Okay, I sometimes ship them. They used to be my OTP for a while, in fact. But there are too many things that mess up any romance they might have, and I can't get behind most portrayals of the ship, so I've come to the conclusion they're just better as close platonic frenemies.

-EngPort. I see them as past lovers that decided to go back to being friends.

Ameliet is also dear to my heart. I also like to throw Romano in as part of a polycule. It’s a very sweet ship but Liet can be a little bit of a pushover when it comes to America. Not a bad thing but it’s one of those things where you want to tell a character “it’s okay to want things too”

Two ships: FrUK and GerIta

I've been in this fandom for too goddamn long

FRUK: A++: the OTP

Okay so even though I've been in this fandom for almost 13 fucking years, it wasn't until I got back into the fandom within the last 4-5 years that I really, really started getting into this ship. I think someone pointed out recently that a good majority of people who enjoy Arthur and Francis together as a domestic, old married couple tend to be 'older' people in the fandom. It's a popular ship, one of the most popular since early fandom days, so in turn, it's got to be portrayed in such a specific way in order for me to enjoy it. Luckily, there are some really, really creative and talented creators who get it and I eat up anything they put out into the world.

They are so deliciously complicated and I enjoy seeing all of their highs and lows throughout the entirety of their two thousand years of being in the other's life. I feel like I can't add anything groundbreaking or that exciting to the discussion of why Arthur and Francis are just a delight to put together, they just are.

GerIta: B: It's really cute

If you don't know anything about Hetalia, the one thing you might know other than what the show is vaguely about is that these two have the hots for each other. It's one of those ships that I enjoy and have absolutely no problems with but don't actively go searching for content for it. It's always a delight when I come across it. Feliciano and Ludwig are both great characters and I love seeing the different takes on each of them. I enjoy it, it's a classic, but never pulled me in as strongly as it has for others.

Gerita and Itapan?

ok, thank you for the ask! :D

i have super mixed feelings towards gerita. it's cute, but the oversaturation of it in the fandom really got on my nerves and made me resent it a bit because it was impossible to escape. also, sometimes the way people portray them makes me go What because it feels really ooc and... that's all i'll say so i don't offend anyone. people can write what they want i just really don't like it.

ANYWAY i do slightly prefer them platonically as super close friends (wish there was more of that content because it makes me happy as someone who's very affectionate towards their friends to the point of people mistaking my feelings as romantic when they're not) but i like it romantically, too. it was my favorite pairing when i first got into hetalia and actually the reason i got into hetalia because i saw some cute fanart and i really liked the dynamic (especially the crybaby boy as u could imagine) and i wanted to know more.

also part of me likes the idea that germany has a one-sided crush on italy (poor guy) and another part of me likes the idea that germany's affection is genuinely platonic and he's just confused and overwhelmed because he's not used to healthy, platonic relationships and mistakes it as romantic (something i can relate to). the former is nice but i'd like the latter to be explored more. italy was germany's first friend, after all.

ANYWAY final consensus: cute, but i have SUCH complicated feelings. i both like and dislike it somehow. may or may not write fanfic for at some point. also super fun to roleplay, actually.

i don't love itapan but i think it's cute. i definitely see the potential. i like the dynamic of italy being super touchy and japan being the complete opposite. it could be a really cute thing i haven't seen explored much :) which is surprising because i feel like it's a key component of their dynamic?

like with gerita, i do prefer them platonically, but i have nothing against them romantically. i'd like to see more itapan content. i'd do it myself but japan is a mystery to me and i'm not sure how well i could write him in a romantic context :( so it'll be an eventual challenge for me!

i think itapan could grow on me more if i saw someone with a really nice portrayal of them! anything i've seen i've been more neutral towards. like oh it's cute, then i move on because it doesn't spark anything within me.

final consensus: cute, but more neutral towards it. may or may not write fanfic for at some point if i can figure japan out. what does he hide behind those dark, stoic eyes...

SO!!! I got these two little keychains!!! This folder/poster thing that has all the Nordics, and then I got two doujinshis, one of SuFin and the other I got for free is GerIta!! The keychains send me into like cuteness agression, they’re so adorable, I get like violent when I look at them. BAHAH THEYRE JUST SO CUTE!!!!!

I actually originally only bought the Sweden keychain, but before I left the con I was like… “No… I can’t not get Finland! They can’t be separated! I need him!” So I ran back to the booth and got him too!

For those wondering because I’m bad at taking pictures of everything, the SuFin doujin is called “Dear Moonlight” It’s all in Japanese, and from my minimal understanding, it’s like on the bit of angsty/drama side with Sweden trying to protect Finland! (Please note my Japanese is very basic so I could be getting the situation completely wrong BAHA) BUT!! I’m so excited to try and understand/figure out these doujins as I think it’d be good practice for me!! (My Japanese is severely lacking OTL) The GerIta one is called “Secret Garden” and I’m pretty sure it has an English translation somewhere here on Tumblr! That will be linked —> here!! :3

AND THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I’ve been cosplaying Italy since I’ve been 12, and I’m almost 22, so I’ve been cosplaying him for like a decade. Italy is one of my most comforting cosplays! I love getting to be silly and goofy as him! It’s always fun!! And I loved when people came up to me and said “You just made my day! I love hetalia” it was so cute! Hetalia is my favorite thing to cosplay. And hopefully… hopefully soon… a certain Finn’s uniform will be added to my collection >:3

Three Ships: One that’s been on my mind lately thanks to a friend has been their OC x Nemona. They have this OC named Harley who goes to the academy in Paldea to get away from some stuff that went down during her gym challenge in Galar and ends up meeting the ever so battle-enthused Nemona. She is the same age as Nemona (mid-late teens) and the two start off as friends but then someone ends up giving the other an Applin and it’s just the sweetest thing. They’re so cute. 🥹

Another is a little remnant from my Arcana fandom days but I also love thinking about Nadia x Asra x Julian sometimes cause they just work so well together. Whether its platonic or romantic, I love it.

Gotta give a shout-out to my love for The Case Study of Vanitas tho cause I love Dominique x Noé. Noé and Vanitas are close second as a platonic ship, though

First Ship: I gotta really dive far back for this one but I think the first ship I shipped was GerIta from Hetalia. (I was in middle school, it was a time… If you know, you know. 💀)

I don't have nearly as much fun in life now as I did when I was absolutely completely special-interest gobsmack-obsessed with Hetalia age 13, now I read about it I've forgotten most of what I cared about and have only 1% of the love for it i did and loving it is only like glancing at a passionate memory out of the corner of my eye, like a snowstorm in the back of my mind, like drifting through the sea on my back on a raft because if I look directly at it it becomes distorted.

Anyway all that is to say I did still retain 1% of my love for Hetalia, and that love is stored in the Belarus
