Coming to Martha’s Vineyard this summer to play in a nice place with some nice songwriters for a good cause.
The songwriters are all going to play "in the round", meaning we'll sit in a circle on the stage and take turns playing songs for one another and the audience, and ALL the money goes to benefit for affordable housing for the Martha's Vineyard's elderly and disabled
The tickets are $25-300 and here:
https://www.eventbrite.com/e/songwriters-for-island-elder-housing-tickets-893692156297?aff=oddtdtcreator
If you've never heard Willy Mason play...he's phenomenal.
Here's one of his tracks, Oxygen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RvZIiiIMwbg

The Reckless Moment
Tumblr media Tumblr media
By the 1950s, Joan Bennett had transitioned from femme fatale to wife and mother, standing by patiently as her on-screen husbands carried most of the drama or comedy. But the film that set her on that new path offered her a lot more to work with. In Max Ophuls’ THE RECKLESS MOMENT (1949, YouTube, and search for the good print that has a shot of Shepherd Strudwick as its screen capture), she’s a wife running the family on her own while her husband is overseas building a bridge in Germany. He’s the doer in the larger world, but she’s forced to do at home when her daughter (Geraldine Brooks) takes up with a small-time criminal (Strudwick). When he turns up dead on their beach, Bennett assumes her daughter did it and disposes of the body in an impressive silent sequence. That doesn’t stop a blackmailer (James Mason) from turning up with letters that could incriminate Brooks.
Ophuls has Burnett Guffey’s camera glide through the middle-class home almost serenely as Bennett is falling apart and the duties of running a household become a trap keeping her from dealing with the most pressing issues at hand. It’s all startlingly ahead of its time in depiction of women’s work as a series of interruptions. In the night scenes, Ophuls and Guffey generate tension between the elegant moving camera and the dark shadows in the garden and boat house. By day, the tension lies in turning the idyllic setting on Balboa Island into a site of crime.
Bennett’s almost plastic beauty plays into this visually, but she doesn’t just coast through the action. Like many Hollywood actresses of the golden age, she maintains an almost immobile face to prevent and hide any signs of aging, and like the best of them (Davis, Stanwyck, Gardner) she knows how to project her character’s inner life in spite of that limitation. The artistry is in her physicality and her eyes. Mason, with a slight shock of hair hanging over his forehead, is at his most handsome. Even when he first shows up to blackmail Bennett, he’s immensely appealing. And he’s also incredibly open. The complication for his character is that he starts falling for Bennett, and he plays it expertly. His nuances have nuances. There’s also good work from Brooks, Strudwick (so oily it’s hard to believe he was ever the benevolent patriarch on ANOTHER WORLD), Roy Roberts as Mason’s boss, Henry O’Neill as Bennett’s father-in-law and Frances E. Williams as the family’s level-headed housekeeper. Every home should have one.

The province's chief medical officer has signed a directive banning incarcerating someone under the Public Health Act, following an order from Manitoba's premier in reaction to a CBC investigation. CBC published a story Monday detailing what happened to Geraldine Mason, a 36-year-old from God's Lake First Nation who spent a month in jail after she was detained for tuberculosis treatment. The story caught the attention of Premier Wab Kinew, who described Mason's incarceration as "terrible" and said no else should ever have to go through that ordeal.

The star babies, Slash and Lita! A bit of info under the cut.
The living embodiment of “from dust you came,” Slash and Lita exist as constructs rather than mutants. Crafted out of clay and life breathed into them by their mother Geraldine, the two are two halves to one whole. Slash was crafted first as an experiment, with Lita coming along four years later.
If you asked Geraldine why she chose turtles, she’ll only shrug. She shaped the clay, but the clay chose itself how it wanted to hatch.
Magic weaves throughout their lives thanks to Geraldine’s parenting. They find their own talents over the years—Slash enjoys the subtler arts of walking through dreams and scrying for answers, while Lita loves the complexities of weaving spells and reading tarot.
She might find it a little funny to fib about what the Death card really means in a reading. Slash thinks his little sister needs to stop tempting fate and read her cards properly…or not at all. 😒
Other little tidbits:
Slash is non-verbal in the waking world. In dreams, he’s far more likely to be talkative.
Both have the thickest southern accents. This never goes away, even in their adult years.
Lita is deeply jealous of her brother’s tail—there absolutely was a screaming tantrum thrown one day involving the phrase, “Why does he get a tail and I don’t?”
Lita carries around a lioness plush and yes, loves pink. Slash loves his whale plush and likes space-themed stuff.
Slash is technically named Beauregard…Raph is responsible for the name he prefers. Geraldine will never forgive him for this.
Lita’s full name is Lita-Marie. Do not call her that unless you want an ear-shattering scream in your vicinity.

WELCOME TO THE ATLANTIS GEORGIAS BRACKET: ROUND 1
Tumblr media
I wanted to call it "The Cup of Water," but I wasn't sure if that would be as clear.
Since it's March Madness, and the people of Tumblr have fallen in love with making brackets for pretty much anything, it's time we settle once and for all who the most popular Georgias player is. Sixty-four will enter, but only one can win. (Since there have only ever been sixty-one Georgias players who have seen active play, however, three NPCs have been picked to fill in the remaining slots.)
The bracket was largely seeded based on how I perceived each player's popularity to be within the Georgias' fanbase (with some margin of error), but anyone is allowed to participate in voting! Simply vote for whichever player in each matchup you like more, and winners will proceed to Round 2!
You can find all matchups under the #georgias bracket round 1 tag on our blog, or in the list below:
Rigby Friedrich vs. Poseidon
Niq Nyong'o vs. Goodwin Morin II
Flattery McKinley vs. Nagomi Mcdaniel III

Sergio
Tumblr media
art by @xxx-ashhazard-xxx
"I don't know you, and you don't know me. Let's keep it that way fa both our sakes."
Name: Sergio Salvadora
Age: 25
Height: 5'2"
Weight: 120 lbs
Species: Cat
Physical description: Short, wiry, very mild definition in his upper arms, over two dozen cut marks around his torso with patchy fur around them, predominantly orange fur with dark stripes from the top of his head down to his tail; white fur from his snout down to his inner thighs, pinkish-red "beans" on his hands and feet
Background from Mason's perspective: Born and raised in Harlem, New York, to Demetrius and Geraldine Salvadora. Geraldine was a nurse in a large Manhattan hospital, while Demetrius struggled to hold down any one job. Records indicate a conjugal visit between the Salvadoras roughly nine months before Sergio was born.
Demetrius was killed in a bout of gang violence the day Sergio turned 7 years old. Agent Bonita Salvadora of SIN claimed that Geraldine didn't want anyone from Demetrius's side of the family to contact her or her son.
Between the ages of 12 to 15, Sergio had scattered reports of delinquency and truancy on his record, from alleged pickpocketing and shoplifting to vandalism. His teachers in middle school noted that he had developed a brash streak, a few even saying he was "incorrigible." Despite this, he showed promise in mathematics and economics classes.
There are hazy reports of Sergio having joined a street gang known as the Sixth Street Clique, who notably initiated a gunfight with rival gang South Side Vipers. Everyone in the latter gang was reported dead, whereas the Sixth Street Clique was all either gunned down or arrested...save for one, who managed to escape the police. Surviving gang members mentioned Sergio's name during interrogations, but the case had gone cold before anything could stick.
Sergio was made a ward of the state and got his GED through private tutoring. When he was 18, he signed on with the Specialized Laborers of New York, a local worker's union that provided aid to myriad professions, blue- and white-collar. He started working for Olin's Repossession at 18 and stayed for three years, then became a taxi driver after the owner of Olin's Reposession had died under unknown circumstances. He then went on to drive for Chariot, a ride-sharing company that quickly took cities like New York by storm.
Rumors have spread about the Laborers being more than a workers' union, with scattered reports of kidnapping, extortion, and murder. The police haven't found anything that could stick, but there is also no telling if the Laborers have some officers in their pocket. We have found no connections between the Laborers and the aetherial, so we are currently leaving any issues regarding them to the mundane law enforcement. Sergio doesn't seem to be aware of his family's vampire hunting business due to his father's separation from the rest of his family, according to Agent Salvadora. We will allow her to keep tabs on him and to give SIN, and by extension us, updates on his whereabouts and exploits.
