If you’re one of my friends (or someone else who found me through the tumblr algorithm) who is upset about the latest veilguard news turn away now because you’re most likely not going to like what I’m about to say
Rant under the cut
People are being so dramatic for no reason I’m sorry
“This was all a waste of time” when they literally say in the article that the events of the games STILL happen, it’s not like they’re retconning them. And most likely world state decisions from the previous games will still be asked in the games going forward AS they become important, they literally said they chose the world state choices based on what would be relevant to the story of the new game
It’s a new area of thedas and literal DECADES after the events of the previous games, I’m sorry it just seems silly to expect the events of the past games to still have the same relevance that they did in inquisition, which is only 2 years after da2 and 10 years after origins and also took place in the same area of the continent as them
I do agree that not including the well of sorrows decision is certainly a choice, but we also don’t know the complete story of veilguard literally at all. What we do know is solas has the aspect of mythal that was in flemeth, we also know that for at least some portion of the game he’s trapped in the fade and rook is kind of his mouth piece. Maybe the reason it won’t come up is because with him being trapped he can’t actually do anything with his powers, that’s been my theory for a while at least
I genuinely do not know how y’all got “The inquisitor either hated solas or romanced him” from what they said. The leap in logic is crazy to me because they literally said that your relationship regardless of whether you romanced him or not is going to be important
“How are they going to write around these world state decisions with them not being choosable?” Well considering the game is fully written and is coming out next month it seems they found a way
The way y’all were all hyping up this game as the next best thing and then ONE thing that you don’t like is revealed and y’all all turned on it is crazy
Also to tie this up, we literally know that veilguard has gone through at least 2 rewrites because in the same article where they revealed the world state stuff they literally said there was an iteration of da4 that just did not have that much solas involvement. Have yall considered that maybe the rewrites were due to them getting stuck on all of the choices that could be made in past games and so they decided to just pick the ones that were going to be the most relevant to the story to start with and then go from there in subsequent games
I’m sorry, coming from someone who’s literal favorite game franchise is dragon age and has replayed origins multiple times, this all just seems like such a non issue to me

"I Love Them And I Love That They're There For Each Other." 🥺🩷
[Liam Vickers (The Creator Of Murder Drones) Talking About N And Uzi.] (GLITCH X 2023)
In all seriousness though, although I'm a Nuzi/Biscuitbites shipper and all, I overall really do love and adore how much N and Uzi's relationship has blossomed and developed over the course of the show so far and how much closer the two have gotten. Whether you see them as either platonic or potential lovers, you can't deny that these two are absolutely adorable and badass, and just work so damn well off one another, they're honestly the heart of the show, in my opinion. (◡ ω ◡) You can honestly see the friendship and connection between the two and see that they do deeply care about one another and bring the best out of each other, it's honestly understandable why so many fans love the pairing between these two and their dynamic and find it comforting, because there's so much charm and even relatability to both characters. You truly do believe in their bond and their relationship is only going to get so much stronger once the final two episodes of the season are released next year, especially with the huge amount of stakes involved now + with N having to choose between either saving the universe or potentially killing Uzi.
N X Uzi is pretty much a slow burn, it's taking its time before things get serious between the two. To me, nothing in my eyes feels forced or rushed unlike other romances in pieces of media I've seen which didn't have the best development and growth, or the right amount of it. Although, relationships like N and Uzi have been done so many times and can be seen as cliche, (which I can get behind!) that doesn't always mean it's automatically bad and horrible, some cliche tropes for potential couples can/have worked as long as they're written correctly and done well! For me, when it comes to my favorite ships I like for them to have chemistry and believability and show the connection between the characters.
Honestly, for any romances/relationships in pieces of media to come across as believable than the audience must be convinced that the couple is genuinely connected and N and Uzi fit this category although we're only in the first season and we aren't sure what the future holds for the show, there's more potential to show more growth and development for N and Uzi and their relationship, with the potential of them being more! I honestly don't see how these two wouldn't end up together by the end especially after so much buildup and teasing only to have the two end up with different characters at the end of the show, it would've definitely left a bad taste in the fans mouths and would've been pointless. It would be understandable for N and Uzi to get together and it works, as not only do they have the strongest dynamic and relationship out of all the characters but throughout all the episodes (so far, at least) the two have shown to start growing closer and closer, the show has hinted at them being something more eventually. ❤️
Now, of course, anything can go and Envy might end up being the endgame couple instead, especially after V's sacrifice and her growing character development things could change. But, I honestly don't really see them getting together and besides, He and V could still be friends and connect and not everyone needs to get/be in a relationship to be happy. V doesn't need to be in a relationship with N to be happy, she needs to improve herself first and become a better person which is what she's slowly doing and as said, she can still find happiness in a found family and friendship, she can still find happiness in other places! 💙💞

Do you have any favorite naruto fics you’d recommend? Any pairing, complete or not, on-hiatus, gen, oneshots, anything is fine lol
I was legitimately just pruning my bookmarks the other day!! thank you so much for asking.
I don't read too much fanfic these days, and I'm picky when I do--only about grammar/punctuation and immersion though. I ship a LOT of stuff (I guess The Youth would call me a proshipper) and although I never read darkfic, I don't shy away from weirder kinks and unhealthy relationship stuff.
categorizing by pairing, if applicable. some of them are smutty, and please note that the first 3 come from FFN which doesn't have a tagging system, but there is some SA CW I'll give in advance.
KAKASAKU | my first OTP! formative fics that totally reshaped my understanding of what fanfiction could be, and how well-written chemistry can make it or break it
HOUSE OF CROWS is the quintessential kakasaku fanfic. it was written during shippuden and so is canon divergent because of that, but also tells a comprehensive story of its own right that is intriguing and well planned. excellent characterization and world building. leaves me gutted in the best way on my yearly reread.
DUTY BEFORE HONOR is another silvershine classic. I don't reread is as often as House of Crows but they are just about equal in quality. again, the chemistry between them is off the charts, and the world feels so alive.
WILL OF FIRE for me is up there with House of Crows in being essential kakasaku reading. cynchick is a multisaku champion and a wonderful storyteller. the stakes in this one are stressful, the romance tense and believable, and we once again get lovely world building and great chemistry.
ITAKISA | a pairing near and dear to me, because men who do everything wrong are so deeply relatable. they both know they don't deserve anything good ever again but they found each other!!!! ARE YOU GUYS SEEING THIS--
A SHARK HIDDEN INN THE LEAVES doesn't have my favorite version of Kisame, but he's plenty close enough. it's a lengthy oneshot that got me into certain *ahem* kinks. it is a very fun and wild fic that is entirely self-aware of how absurd it's being, and manages to have nothing but sincerity at the same time (and I highly recommend the author's other stories as well)
AN ORCHESTRA PLAYING ON, INSANE is a modern AU (extremely rare in my bookmarks) that absolutely tore my heart out. god is it SO much to ask for these losers to be happy?! yes, it is, and I love every moment of it
MADAMITO | a rarepair I am SUCH a sucker for that has some of the most talented authors writing for it. lots of them have ot3 elements between them and hashirama, often angsty, but stuff like that is part of the appeal for me, lol
A HANDFUL OF SKY is an unfinished fic that I genuinely think about like once a week. if it ever updates then I will be over the moon. technically hashimadamito but it hadn't quite gotten there yet
LIKE ALTARS is just such a beautiful piece of writing, mostly on madara. it is everything, that is all
BLOOD AND RIVER WATER is more mito-centric but has one of my favorite madaras of all time
YOURS ARE RATTLED BONES is another short, mito-centric but gut-wrenching piece featuring the opposite type of madara from the last one
OTHER | character-centric stuff that isn't necessarily shippy but also doesn't have a very "gen" vibe either?
A SERPENT IN THE RICE is a little series about orochimaru that makes me feel so so so many things. highly recommended
HERETIC is such a love letter to kushina, and kurama too. cannot stress enough how much I adore this one
there's a few others that I probably won't link on tumblr, mostly unhealthy and/or "problematic" smut hhfhdj but maybe I'll make a public rec list on ao3 for these different categories and stuff like that.
but yeah that's pretty much it!!! I know it's not a huge list with a lot of variety but it's what I've enjoyed over the last 15+ years in the naruto fandom.

Tumblr media Tumblr media
Baihe novels I read in 2023, in order of when I read them:
Miss Forensics by Jiu Nuan Chun Shen. Contemporary thriller featuring a push-pull romance between a forensic pathologist and a police detective. Big action scenes, big emotional set-pieces, big emotions.
Distance by Mi Nao Nao. Contemporary romance billed as 'woman who has broken a thousand hearts vs woman who has never lost her heart'. I found it underwritten and lacking in structure, but lots of people seem to like it.
The Collapsing Palace by Ming Ye. Historical palace harem novel. A wilful noblewoman marries her cousin, the crown prince, so she can get close to his mother/her aunt the empress, whom she's been crushing on since forever. And she's not even the most toxic / messed up main character in this novel.
Life is Like a Dream by Qing Xiang. A short novel set in the Yue opera scene during the Republican Era. Small-scale, elegantly understated, makes highly effective of use of the author's detailed knowledge of opera and the opera scene.
Suffocation by Hua Qiong Ran. One of those 'toxic lesbians' contemporary thrillers, featuring the protagonist being repeatedly stalked and imprisoned by her own wife. Amped up the depravity too quickly to be wholly effective.
Zebra Crossing by Yi Bai Shou. Early baihe novel featuring a romance between a CEO and police detective, a mixture of thriller and romance. Strong beginning with appealing characters, somewhat let down by meandering middle and end and odd approach to extras.
She Belongs to Me by Da Ying. An uncomplicated contemporary romance between two femme professional women who are excellent communicators. Does make effective use of several k-drama style romantic set-pieces.
Bo Zhou by Ruo Hua Ci Shu. Time loop contemporary romance in which the protagonist tries to safe her girlfriend's life again and again. Overall competently plotted, well-paced and genuinely suspenseful.
The Tribulation of the Peach Runaway Blossom by Ning Yuan. A solid xianxia/xuanhuan novel with a big cast of complex female characters, competent world-building and assured prose. Somewhat falls down on the main romance (though the secondary romances make up for that a little), which was at once the lynchpin of the plot and not particularly present on the page.
The Abandoned by Mu Feng Qing Nian. Three words: sapphic xianxia shizunfuckery. Horny unhinged lesbians, plot twists on top of plot twists, and much violence.
Her Mountain, Her Sea by Fu Hua. A contemporary high school romance. Very solid, competent slice-of-life for the most part. The leads are well-characterised and their growing relationship is deftly handled, especially in the early stages.
The Creator's Grace by Ning Yuan. A near future sci-fi thriller. 12/10, no notes (though the sci-fi element is subordinate to the romance and thriller elements).
Minister Xie by Ruo Hua Ci Shu. This historical novel is The Goblin Emperor meets Sha Po Lang. Teenage emperor Liu Zao does her best to turn her prime minister Xie Yi (who is 14 years older) into her wife.
Snow on Her Pillow by Liu Yuan Chang Ning. Historical fiction featuring a romance between Princess Jieyou and her devoted attendant Feng Liao (described as the first official female diplomat in Chinese history). Competently and compellingly written; manages the Feat of treating Central Asian characters (of which there are many) as regular, undemonised people.
Spring on the River by Da Ying. This xuanhuan novel features supernatural women behaving very very badly, weird structure and pacing, and a rather hapless main character who frequently reminded me of a protagonist in a shoujo reverse harem novel.
Listen, God by Xian Yu Bu Chi Cai. A contemporary time loop thriller featuring a romance between a scriptwriter and an up-and-coming actress. Mostly carefully and cleverly plotted (though starts to unravel in the last 20%), though the relationship development between the leads left me cold.
A Taste of You by Si Bai Ba Shi Si. A contemporary romance between a talented chef and a CEO. A grounded, realist novel told through a charmingly wry first-person POV (bar a sharp swerve into melodrama in the last 10%), deeply embedded in the local lesbian scene.
Snow in the Spring Courtyard by Liu Yuan Chang Ning. This wuxia novel had good relationship development, a compelling love interest, and excellent pacing, and is likely to appeal to readers for those reasons. For me personally, it was let down by an extraordinarily bleak view of the jianghu which I don't think the author was fully aware of.
I Think About You Day and Night by Yu Shuang. In this contemporary romance, a CEO rescues a penniless girl from an abusive household, and k-drama-style shenanigans ensue. There's terminal illness, birth secrets, an incest scare (dw they're not actually related), and corporate machinations. The author's commitment to these tropes and their emotional stakes makes this an enjoyably dramatic read.
Cover Her Face by Qing Tang Shuan Xiang Cai. A mostly breezy, mostly fluffy, and unexpectedly sexy historical romance plus a dash of wuxia, with likable main characters.
Waiting for You by Min Ran. A contemporary showbiz romance, basically an exes-to-reunited-lovers story courtesy of a handy rebirth and time rewind. Another one for the 'attractive femme couple resolves their relationship problems through Better Communication' folder.
Climbing High by Po Po Po. In this historical court intrigue novel, aspiring scholar Fang Jian sells herself into indentured servitude to court official Gao Yunqu in exchange for the latter's promise to help her free her parents from unjust imprisonment. Published on PO18, so allowed to be sexually explicit in ways JJWXC and Changpei novels can't be, and the author makes full use of this (though I found the sex scenes between the tertiary couples stronger than those between the main couple, for the most part). Very strong political writing, a great cast of complex female characters.

what r ur favorite drakgo fics?
A very good question! I have a lot of favourites! List with blurbs and commentary incoming, giant. Reviewed Mad Angry, Mad Crazy by bcbdrums Hell hath no fury like a mad scientist scorned! Borderline psychological thriller, equal parts character deconstruction and tragedy, a twisted telling of the aftermath of So the Drama and Mad Dogs and Aliens. Love having your brain scrambled, heart torn apart? This one's for you! I've reviewed this one in particular for anyone who may feel lost when following the story; also, because I adore it.
Mint by OhBoyOhBoy A moment of deep sentiment and romance amongst chaos and debris. Tension is built upon excellently, the sweetness is the peak and the end, a (literal) gasp. This author has great work, but this is my absolute favourite. Contains my favourite Shego name ever.
Drakgo Drabbles by gofordrakgo Some of the best drabble work I have ever seen. No word is wasted. Moments in time, bits of unique characterisation, huge events condensed into 100 words; a wide variety of topics and themes. You will find something you love here, don't let the word count put you off. Less is more, and how! I recommend revisiting a piece that catches your interest to appreciate it better, don't fly through. Dwelling by gofordrakgo A unique origin story for our favourite villains, where a young Shego, Shea (my second favourite Shego name), worms her way into dorky Drew Lipsky's derelict apartment and the domino effect that comes of it. Reverse-engineered Drakgo; unrefined, naive, and...innocent? Lots of sweetness and humour with an underlying, creeping darkness. Developing story, I recommend sticking around - I know I am! and now i'm covered in you by soulffles (NSFW 18+) A fantastic post-Graduation get-together fic with wonderful prose. Deeply romantic, intimate and funny! The internal monologues for this piece are spot on, the way the author weaves in humour amongst these vulnerable moments and thoughts just endears me to Drakken and Shego's plight of...realising that they love each other. A Precise Hand by eclipsing-dreams Fantastic subject of hands being the focus, revolving around all the wonderful things they can do (and can elicit!). Two chapters, one for each of them. Excellently constructed, fantastic characterisation, and just a touch (har har) naughty. A slightly unique edge of characterisation is given to Shego's part that I find intriguing. Happy, sweet ending; you aren't left hanging! Highly recommend the author's other pieces, this is simply my favourite. Here by gofordrakgo Drakken and Shego show-up for each other when they need someone most. The Shego section in this story is my favourite; the best depiction of, to avoid spoilers, a 'vulnerable' Shego I have ever seen. This convinced me, this was her. Dr. D showing up for her in that part, my goodness. I love it. The wounded pride, the shame, the quashing of feeling she presents is just great. Fantastic balance. So lovely. Happy ending. Friends by gofordrakgo Shego realises she may not have been the greatest friend to Drakken, and questions the nature of their relationship post-Graduation in her emotional exhaustion. Fantastic character breakdown, very tightly written. If you love slow-on-the-uptake Drakgo, an emotionally exhausted Shego who suddenly lets her thoughts (and feelings) run wild and awkward domesticity, I recommend. Forfeit by bcbdrums The only winning move is not to play! Somewhat non-linear story-telling, smashing together the bits of Dr. Drakken's shattered life post-Graduation, and post-Shego. O, we love a good Greek tragedy! Parting is such sweet sorrow. Jealous by TheyCanHaveTheSex (NSFW 18+) How can I say no to angry, angst fuelled sex, anguish and repressed feeling? How can I say no to jealousy? I can't, is the answer. Love the tension and how bizarre Shego is in particular in this piece, at least to a certain point. The way the story gives way to genuine hurt, too, I really love it a lot. It's not very heavy, in my opinion, but it does get a bit sad. Sweet, happy ending, I really love this one.
Unreviewed A New Beginning by Windcage (NSFW 18+) Yet another fantastic post-Graduation get-together fic! Mature, sort of refined atmosphere that I love, featuring a particularly distracted Dr. Drakken and an unusually patient Shego - until she isn't. Very, very sweet, romantic and funny. Doc's plant mutation is characterised in a fun way here as well. Highly recommend. come back when you can by obijuankenobi (NSFW 18+) A Drakgo exclusive Graduation Part 1, basically! Excellently written exploration of Drakken and Shego's new careers post-Graduation, and insight into how Dr. D really sees himself, after all the fanfare. Well-written, fun plot that does not overstay its welcome, fun action scenes, Drakken and Shego protecting each other, and, most of all, extremely sweet and tender romance. A++, five gold stars, Honour Roll, you name it. And, Motor Ed gives Shego a sexy motorcycle! Why didn't she ever have one in the show? This author gets it. Bad is Good and Good is Bad by split-n-splice Realistic, gritty and somewhat surreal depiction of how Drakken and Shego met, before they became Drakken and Shego. Strong, tense atmosphere. Visceral, ugly, the lowest they have ever been in their young lives, and, when they meet, consequences are inevitable and paths are determined, set in stone. The author makes clever narrative choices, such as omitting names entirely, which builds upon the emerging, almost 'blank slate' aspects of the Doc's and Shego's identities as youths at this point in time. The setting is fantastic, probably my favourite aspect of this piece. So many strong bits of imagery that involve the environment, especially in the second and third chapters. A great scar origin story, too. I highly recommend for anyone who likes something meatier, more grounded. O yeah, and there's great art inside! How considerate of the author to help the reader out! Durable by tabbyclaw Love this one, especially the bluntness of Shego's inner monologue/prose. Possessive, cheeky, somewhat domineering, almost feigning playing second-fiddle to Dr. Drakken. The setting for this is great, there's a great sense of Shego-flavoured risk and recklessness involved without sacrificing her glamour. This might all sound like nonsense, but, I assure you, it is all there in the text! Fans of kissy-face, this one is for you! (Meaning, every Drakgo fan ever, but I digress).
Untitled by tabbyclaw I always appreciate this author's maturity when dealing with Drakgo, I adore it, and it's present here, too. No skimping on the romance at all, it's just wonderful. A take on a love confession that's just so...nice. After the whirlwind and fervour, realisation rolls in. Comforting. Ocean Views by Aleego ; Tumblr fanfic link inspired by art by midnightcaptions (NSFW 18+) An excellent fic inspired by a great piece of art! Truly a merger of great minds! Phone sex might be nothing new, but it works excellently here to establish tension. It's actually a fantastic headspace for Drakken and Shego to be in as characters, not having to face each other, but to speak as if they were alone. It's a strange bit of intimacy between them that, potentially, serves as a lynch pin to how their dynamic changes. Tastefully written. Truth or Dare by those-other-ones (NSFW 18+) Love this one. Love how unique it is, how casual it is, how unglamorous it is. It's also incredibly sweet, vulnerable. Romantic drunkenness, if you will. Captures their competitive and stubborn personalities very well, sabotaging themselves without even knowing by throwing alcohol into the mix. Happy ending, very tender, intimate, sweet. Full-on sex not something you can handle? Try this one. Untitled by those-other-ones (NSFW 18+) An alternative take on an existing fic where Shego is still a hero in Go City and Dr. Drakken makes his villainous debut! I enjoy how weird this is as a first meeting. The setting allows for a great sexual tension and atmosphere that's very unusual, and, when villain and hero are alone together, fervour, desperation and tenderness are unleashed. Very different, highly recommend. Love this one. Routine by Nikki-wr (NSFW 18+) Drakken and Shego's relationship suddenly becomes physical, but it's not all roses. This is a really excellent, weighty, angsty fic. I love how their misunderstandings, miscommunication and insecurities are depicted, their fears of honesty and taking risks when it comes to each other, juxtaposed with irony of perpetuating a self-destructive path. My words might be strong, but this fic ends very, very sweetly. In truth, all of this author's pieces are strong, and angst-tinged, which I adore, but I've chosen this one to highlight. Love the passion. Oldies: Fics from Years Gone By! Vietnam by Dr. Agent My absolute favourite Drakken-centric Drakgo fic ever, bar none! Drakken's developing feelings for Shego are documented in unguarded moments, woven with masterful, restrained prose. The language in this blows me away, it's just. Wow. There is one line in this, a single line, that I obsess over. Powerful imagery and metaphor that ties together the wilderness, war and jungle-theming of the piece - just brilliant, multi-faceted. The author also has a Shego-centric one to mirror this, but Vietnam is my absolute favourite. Beautiful Dynamite by Crystal Allen My favourite Shego character-study fic, ever! Set during Two to Tutor, the author utilises Señor Senior Sr.'s wisened voice as our guide into the ferocious, yet unattractive, side of Shego. Brilliant, I cannot think of a more polarising pair to make commentary on each other, despite their shared hedonism, passion for wealth and villainy. SSS makes slight Drakgo commentary at the end, which I love. Makes me want to read more from his perspective on the two of them, since in this fic, their relationship sort of parallels and contradicts ones he has had in the past. I highly recommend for any big Shego fans. Jealous by NAster Another great Shego-centric fic with jealousy as a core theme that makes the list? Say it isn't so! Wonderful take on Shego's flighty, ornery nature and how it's influenced her behaviour with Drakken, and, with everyone else. Understated, sweet Drakgo, possessive Shego. What's not to love?
Out of Control by Blackfire 18 The Supreme One's treatment of her last line of defence has warped him, not just in body, but in mind. Some of my favourite nasty lines from Supreme Shego and Drakken live here. Rage, angst and tragedy, all in one. The Supreme One's future is miserable for all, even herself. Downer ending. Seeking Shelter from the Rain by Blackfire 18 A classic. Adore this author's Gothic atmosphere, it's very nostalgic, and very prominent in this dreary piece. Amidst a recent failure, Shego is vulnerable and Drakken is there with her. Comforting, sweet ending. Fatal Mistake in the Dark by Blackfire 18 In my opinion, not as strong as the other two pieces. However, it is the ending to this that I really like. The author's sense of building dread is fantastic and present in all her dark fics, but the pay-off for this one is intriguing. Tragedy...? Everything by Hematitebadger A measured, mature, sweet, outcome of a scenario where Dr. Drakken wins. The sheer gentleness, the duality of Lipsky, what he is capable of and who he is. Just lovely. Minutes and Years by Hematitebadger 50 sentences, a real relic from the past! One of the very best that Drakgo has to offer. You only need one sentence to grab you! Symbiosis by Ninnik Nishukan from The Ones That Never Happened Liked Out of Control? Watch a similar dynamic play out and end in a completely different way! Understand the reasons behind Shego and Drakken's transformation and relationship in this timeline, and the brief humanity they end up sharing. Optimistic, relieving ending compared to its sibling-fic. The author's best work, in my sincere opinion. More? Interesting ideas/cute moments/unique settings that I like Stay by Eienvine - Oldie Any Road Will Get You There by Crystal Allen - Oldie Definitely Exactly What It Looks Like by souljelly - Reviewed Sick Day by split-n-splice - Reviewed Practice Makes Perfect by split-n-splice - Reviewed The Devil Wears a Suit and Tie by split-n-splice - Unreviewed Not Sentimental by sweet_tangerine_dreams - Reviewed New and Not New by Malvolia - Reviewed A Knotty Situation by bcbdrums - Unreviewed In All the Gin Joints in the World, He Asks for Coco Moo by UnapologeticallyMeatwad - Unreviewed The Aftermath by dragannahEireann - Unreviewed / Incomplete Fic Expected by gofordrakgo - Reviewed Just a Pair of Cold Dwellers by OhBoyOhBoy - Unreviewed

If you're willing, totally get if you aren't, would you rate the campaigns you've watched? Not best to worst but out of whatever stars? I'm just curious and feel like you'd have interesting answers.
Hey anon,
I must admit that unless I genuinely liked all campaigns exactly equally this still ends up being a ranking in that they're going to have different numbers of stars and some will have more. I will strive to explain myself though since that's where the interest is, but, spoiler: my opinion is a fairly common one and I don't know if you'll find it interesting.
I'm using the Goodreads 5 star system of 1 - didn't like it, 2 - it's ok, 3 - liked it, 4 - really liked it, 5 - it's amazing.
Campaign 1: 4 stars. I think the one-two punch of the Briarwoods and Chroma Conclave - half the campaign - is an incredible story, and greatly enjoy both the lead-in and fade-out (yes I know Vecna is the final BBEG but the emotional heart of the campaign is Briarwoods/Conclave). Perhaps because I've been thinking about the Drizzt novels again but it feels like the closest, most archetypal form of that kind of This Is D&D story. I enjoy all the characters, though some took longer to grow on me; the emotional beats and the relationships all hit (Perc'ahlia exceptionally well for me, but Percy and Vex are just characters who happen to be directly up my alley), and while the shift from Pathfinder to D&D shortly before airing/incompleteness of some of the world occasionally peeks through that's very minor. Fantastic campaign, would recommend highly.
Campaign 2: 5 stars. I think this sets the standard of what a long-form actual play D&D campaign can be. Without going on too long a tangent, I think the great thing about the medium of actual play is that it can go to places that something scripted likely wouldn't, and in doing so, show us something we (as consumers of scripted/written fantasy media) didn't know we wanted but desperately did. Campaign 2 does this; Worlds Beyond Number is the only thing that has shown that same potential that I can think of. I think it is character-driven in a way even D&D often doesn't get a chance to be, I think the characters are made with incredible love and care, and I think that in the end pretty much every single beat - plot, character, romances, worldbuilding - lands. When Critical Role stops airing longform campaigns, whenever that may be, I will be sad, but I will be excited to have the time to finally get around to a Campaign 2 rewatch.
Campaign 3: 3 stars. I like that having established this world in Campaign 1 and further in Campaign 2 we are threatening it in a unique way that could truly change it forever without destroying it, though it also may destroy it. I'm enjoying the plot: while it takes some time to settle, there is a domino effect to it that, while present in the other campaigns, is deeply satisfying due to its cross-campaign, years-in-the-making nature. I also think the role that Bells Hells plays within this plot is unique: whereas Vox Machina are already near-legends by the time their arc of reckoning comes about, and the Mighty Nein are by and large unsung, Bells Hells finds themselves as one piece in a vast machine, and that's a different perspective uncommon in D&D narratives that's fun to see. I have said in the past that I think the only thing holding it back from being...well, under this system, 5 stars, is the character creation process was likely lacking and did not adequately set up for the very intentional and structured plot. I maintain that is true.

is Knowing Me, Knowing You a romantic billford story? what kind of story is it, actually? it looks interesting but I’m afraid to read any type of billford in fear of it being… not the best. what do you think of the ship, actually, since you’re such a fidduathor fan? also, does it end okay, even when incomplete? I have a lot of questions about the fic tbh. too scared to read it tho lol
Whooooo boy do I have a lot to say about this... I highly encourage everyone to read this entire post.
So, my thoughts on BillFord are extremely complicated. I am, first and foremost, a FiddAuthor shipper. That is the ship I consider canon and I even headcanon Bill to be aroace and actively encourage Ford and Fidds to get together because Ford needs to get over stupid societal homophobia plus it's fun to wear down the human's moral compass about hitting on a married man.
BillFord is a FASCINATING concept and it's not hard to see why the ship is as popular as it is despite the (well-deserved) stigma; a lot of things between them that can be read as fuel to the shipping fire. (ie the hair ruffles, the nose flick, the nicknames, the gold statue, the piano serenade, Ford being attracted to the strange, Bill offering to make Ford "one of us," even the possibly kinky undertones of glowy blue chains and bodily possession)
But the problem is that the ship can get very nasty very fast. Make no mistake, what Bill does to Ford is abuse. He is manipulative and violent and cruel. "Mystery bruises?" Literally torturing Ford on screen? Driving a wedge between Ford and his support system to the point that he has extreme trouble trusting people? Preying upon Ford's insecurities about being a freak? That is horrifying stuff, in particular because of how clear the parallels are to real world abuse.
With that in mind, let me talk about KMKY. I loved this fic to pieces. It’s written and organized incredibly well with a good mix of humor, sentiment, tragedy, and villainy without ever feeling off-balance tonally. The best thing about this fic, however, is the mature and nuanced themes about abuse: how hard it is to still love your abuser even when you start realizing that they're as bad as they are, accepting that you're a victim and have no reason to apologize, how an abuser's own trauma isn't an excuse for their actions. I really appreciate that the author has sympathy for Bill while still clearly acknowledging that "hey, what Bill did to Ford was abuse and Ford doesn't have to forgive him, much less take him back." A lesser writer would force Bill and Ford together, but that's not what happens because it's not what should happen.
So, for anyone who is interested in reading it... The gist of it is that instead of inviting Fiddleford to work on the portal, Ford makes a body for Bill to assist in person. The first 33 chapters develop their relationship (ft. Fiddleford being confused and stressed) and then Ford finds out Bill has been lying and eventually goes through the portal. It is very much a romance but the writing is so good that there are times when it's genuinely heartbreaking that the two of them won't work out.
I would definitely say that Bill is the main character (even though Ford has a significant amount of viewpoint time and he's the one you're supposed to root for) because he's the one who changes throughout the story. It's not a positive change, but it is an extremely compelling character arc. The characterization of Bill in this fic is particularly cool to me because he’s definitely a complete person, but he’s very clearly inhuman.
A little preview/incentive to read it: all of Bill’s underlings have individual personalities, Jheselbraum is a super important character and her characterization is... really cool (that's not a good description, but I was in love with it), the worldbuilding of all the places Ford visits in the multiverse was really cool and fun, there are great OCs like Wendy's mom, this mob boss guy that is a delight to hate, and a sarcastic kick-ass alien lady, Bill's backstory is really impactful, Pyronica is a bad bitch, Bill and Ford fight zombies while We Go Together from Grease plays in the background, there are cool themes about enjoying the mundane things in life and how society treats the Strange, and well-written humor that had me laughing out loud constantly. For as long as it is, all of it was extremely memorable and hardly any of it felt like filler. (I will warn you if you choose to read it, there is some serious steam.)
As for the ending... I totally understand why the author stopped writing it. They were trying to make it canon-compliant, but by the time it caught up to the show it was very clear that adhering to the canon material was holding them back. They did their best, but I could tell they weren't enjoying writing it and if you're not enjoying your art, then I don't think it's worth doing.
Wow that was a long post. Thanks so much for the ask, Anon! I hope this was a satisfying response!

some orphy work for a commissioner of mine! 💓 this is 1/2 of their survivor commission - reminder that my comms are always open and i'm currently seeking out comms for atsushi, architect, mio amakura [prioritized!! i want her lots but im f2p] and some survivors/hunters!
orpheus dating/married life hcs📕
Tumblr media
dating hcs
if you are too shy to confess first your pre-dating period is gonna be one HELL of a confusing talking stage lol he's incredibly shy himself and is only going to drop subtle hints and acts of affection in hope that you'd confess first
he's going to give in eventually - he'd probably confess to you by writing you a heartfelt letter, i've written before that every single one of his letters are masterpieces but the more "important" ones such as this one are on a whole other level
orpheus doesn't seem like an approachable person at first nor does he particularily enjoy PDA - he enjoys alone time with you away from everyone, it's simply more intimate and makes him calm enough to function
even though he's a bit cold and shy at the beginning of your relationship it's just the fact that he's so overwhelmed by you in the best way possible JDNWNDN
you're his muse, the beatrice to his alighieri, the most prized person in his life yet he struggles to communicate it clearly verbally - he's simply not the person that's good with words on the spot and prefers writing them on paper
orpheus is actually a huge romantic at heart
like literally straight-from-a-book romantic
this man has a permanent rbf but inside his head he's thinking of kissing you and holding you into his arms and all WOAHH he actually reads romance novels a lot (a guilty pleasure of his) and they fuel his daydreaming
when you two are alone together you simply can't get him off of you lol
likes gently kissing your neck and fingertips, tracing his fingers along your neck and collarbones and whispering sweet nonsense in your ear every now and then maybe even lightly biting your neck if youre into that!?!?!?!?!? literal goosebumps from the way this man loves wow
he's a very gentle and thoughtful partner, asking for permission whenever he wants to kiss you and holding your arm under his whenever you two go for a walk together
a true gentleman ofc!! treats their partner like a royal
the dates you two go on are simple and actually happen pretty frequently - he likes picnics, garden tea parties and anything away from the crowd, making it easier for him to focus on you
would 100% write you cheesy poems that make you melt from the inside (/pos) OR little drabbles and push them under your door for the extra suprise factor HEEHEE he can't help the fact that hes a hopeless romantic
whenever he gets flustered his cheeks get really vibrant red and his monocle FOGS UP and he's still going to act like everything is fine
handsy?? but in an awkward way, like he genuinely doesn't know what to do w them so sometimes he just. pats you¿ hes got very nice hands and fingers tho. long, nimble, with obvious writer's bump(s) on both of his middle fingers. will occassionaly wear a pretty silver ring
he smells SOOOO NICE his cologne isn't very strong and numbing but rather with a flowery tone and it smells like heaven whenever you lay your head on his chest
orders bouquets from andrew and emma with all of your favourite flowers each week... hehe...
also a fan of picking flowers and tucking them into your hair whenever you go for a walk together🥺
this man is so so cute yet so fragile please please PLEASE hold his stoic "😐" ass in a hug and gently smooch him or he might break into pieces like fine china
married life hcs
100% the one proposing. "oh but i-" im absolutely not hearing you out OKAY let him have his moment
he has a whole heart tearing speech ready that he wrote himself and a pretty custom ring made just for you you are NOT taking away his spotlight
god he's the giddiest person ever when he sees you walk towards the altar.. he loves you so much and would kiss you right there and then if it weren't for the ceremony
anyways. malewife orpheus is real
you complained about how you're too tired to do the laundry? oh look it's already done. got no time to cook? 5 star michelin meal is already on the table
would even wear an apron while doing it tbh
it's just you and him and he's so happy about being able to focus on you and your relationship more once you're married
he often stays up late writing instead of going asleep so he appreciates extra blankets and coffee sm <3
also he has a lot of moles on his body. like a lot and he often jokes about them being places where he's supposed to be kissed (/hj on his part he's actually into that)
mostly the big spoon - loves intertwining his fingers and legs with yours as he presses his chin onto the top of your head
would gladly read to you until you fall asleep, he's a phenomenal narrator with a beautiful, slightly raspy voice
regarding kids - orpheus 100% wouldn't force his opinion on you nor pressure you into having them, but i feel like he'd really love to have children and that he'd be a great dad
some days you two just cancel all of your plans and stay at home together, curled up in the bed and simply enjoying each other's presence
likes having his hair played with when he's working
or in general you coming up behind him while he's by his desk and massaging his shoulders or carressing his cheeks... GOD he's in heaven
when he's out for longer or stuck in his office for some time he leaves you one of his white silk gloves or hankerchiefs in your pocket while you're not looking <3 he has a habit of putting essential oils on them so they smell beautifully
not tech savvy but i think he'd learn how to operate a camera just to take cute little pictures of you and keep them :) he would put them in a little locket and carry it around his neck or instead of a pocket watch, keep them as bookmarks in his favourite books or simply tucked in his typewriter so you're always near him
one cute thing about him is that 90% of his body is always cold and that 10% that isn't is his chest. he gets very flustered whenever you joke that it's because his heart can only heat up so much of his body
he's an amazing listener and always by your side - you can tell him everything without fearing he'll get mad or react badly, laugh along with him and confess all your secrets and sins to him
he's a wonderful person and an even more wonderful spouse. milo (MAN I LOVE ORPHEUS!!!!!!!)

You know what? Rather than saying Xena and Gabrielle aren’t textually canon I should just say they’re a romantic friendship or platonic romance. Because - evidently - I see and interpret them as very canon. And yes, sometimes even in a textually written way. But it seems to confuse people when I try to explain that they are an EPIC well-written romance/love story when I follow it up with “even though they’re not textually canon”. And I could understand how that would be confusing if I had never seen the TV show. And many people seem to be familiar with what “romantic friendship” or “platonic romance” is and I’d definitely say Xena and Gabrielle come under that. I mean they do have an amazing relationship and it can be interpreted as platonic just as much as it can be interpreted as romantic. They do always seem to refer to each other as best friends only in a public setting. They never say they’re lovers or are in love. They never have to. It’s written on their faces as clear as day. In just the way they are with each other you can tell that they are. It’s incredibly obvious and beautifully nuanced. But since it’s not confirmed in the show that they’re anything more than best friends,… I think “romantic friendship” or “platonic romance” works. And for me - that a very respectful and affectionate way of understanding and defining their relationship.
So yeah,
They’re romantic friendship or platonic romance. Very much canon to the fans, the creators, and the cast. But couldn’t be confirmed as a textually canon couple because of the severe censorship and restriction for the production and the final cuts for each episode. I mean there is a script where they outed them after all. It just couldn’t be allowed to see the light of day. I’m pretty freaking sure Steven L. Sears has it though and one of these days I will beg him to let me see it just for all time sake. Just to read how they actually were going to shoot that episode before NBC made them rework it. And there was also the Sappho musical episode that never made it to production either although you can find that script and it’s… alright… I guess. Plays like a piece of rushed-written femslash fanfiction but it’s decent. I’ve certainly read worse.
Oh, that’s another thing I forgot to mention in my last post. They were so serious about being in solidarity with the fans about Xena and Gabrielle that they actually commissioned actual FANFICTION writers to write episodes for the show that did make it passed the Final Cut. One of them is actually one of the best episodes of the entire show. Not just because of the representation provided but it’s genuinely a good story. But I’ve waxed poetic about ‘When Fates Collide’ enough (I’ll never wax poetic about it enough).
But yeah - that was something no show with a “non-canon” main protagonist relationship has ever done. Brought in fanfiction writers - actual shippers - and told them “write us a Xena and Gabrielle love story”. That was a big deal and proved just how serious they were about them seeing their relationship as canon.

Ah, so glad you answered them, it did pick up my mood.
One could argue that James is the one who can't flirt to save his life, seeing that it was he who canonically decided to shoot his shot while tormenting his suitor's best friend. But alas, I prefer to think that he was generally more charming than that. Also worth remembering Peter seduced every single classified piece of information about the Triwizard Tournament out of Bertha. Sirius may call it pathetic, but some people like a guy who hangs on every word you say and thinks the sun shines out of your ass. Maybe in his maturity he mastered and refined the art of simping.
I can see that Remus would flirt accidentally. I think he'd be so utterly convinced nobody would or should ever like him that he'd say suggestive things without even registering the effect they may have on people. Stuff like "let's hang out just the two of us" or "I can take you to see the grindylows" and genuinely mean he wants a quiet platonic hang-out, or to show someone a cool water demon.
I actually had two more questions, but as I wrote them, I realised they were answered in your fic! One of them was who was the most likely to have an affair with a muggle (I don't want to spoil this for anyone), and the other one was who was the most likely to have exciting summer flings. My hot take that I'll leave you to agree or disagree is that I think Remus would do most of his (very scarce) dating during the summer. People with commitment issues always seem to choose dates with obvious obstacles that will eventually justify ending the relationship (like dating someone who lives really far or is always busy). I think Remus would do that to ease his own guilt for daring to go out with someone. So brief summer romances that he can forget all about and pretend it was someone else would suit him fine. Hah, look at me, blabbering on. I'll have to go think of more questions for you now, but it may be that I finally exhausted them.
I'm glad to hear it helped a little! Hope things are better ❤️
I will say I think circa fifth year James would not have been good at flirting, because let's face it, few 16 year olds are, and especially when it came to Lily he probably had no idea how to approach her so it all went terribly. He was pretty charming, though, and likely got better as he got older.
Great point about Bertha Jorkins and Peter!! I definitely think this is something that would have come with age, though, and with no longer being an awkward teenage boy. I've always written Peter as very observant so he probably picked things up throughout the years, and I think his ability to ingratiate himself was definitely something he'd learnt early on. Btw I absolutely love the idea of Peter winning Bertha over through being a massive simp, that makes SO much sense.
About Remus-- I think that makes sense! I don't know how much socialising he'd be doing with Muggle girls in his town, but maybe if he was dragged along by Hope to a summer fete or something he'd meet a nice girl and they'd go out a couple times! I still think he'd feel incredibly guilty about it all. Without spoiling anything, Remus has got a little mini-romance coming up in this next part, actually!

7 & 18 for the choose violence ask meme? :D
7. what character did you begin to hate not because of canon but because how how the fandom acts about them? Hate is a big word and it really doesn't make me happy to complain about Chibnall Who three times a day, but unfortunately the answer is Thirteen. Of course, it all kicked off with people being extermely fragile and pearl clutchy about how the Doctor being a woman will somehow change the very core of the character, but those takes were simply a block and filter flag for me, so it is easy to ignore them. But then the canon turned out to be what it was and, extremely controversial opinion, "just poorly written" isn't an excuse for a character only best possible reason to criticise them. Still, if we are just in the canon my attitude towards Thirteen is warm rather than cold! I'm absolutely not in any "not mah doctor" club, she's likeable and has some amazing moments (much as I hate TTC, her confrontation with Tecteun is genuinely good). But making her out to be the bestest regeneration evah, and her relationship with Yaz the hottest romance in the show's history, and you just have to abandon all of the (insert long adjective from critical theory of the day) ways of assessing fiction to appreciate how subtly ingenious the writing is, and her bs moral compass is actually heading somewhere (argument persisting even after she regenerated), and she's clearly thought from the beginning to be the Doctor that abandoned all hope (fun fact: her theme is based on Luke Skywalker's, as in having A New Hope written all over it), and if I, a cis woman, can't see how brilliant a character she is, then clearly I'm a class gender traitor - yeah, fandom really wants me to dislike her. And then one day I saw a set juxtaposing Ten sweettalking the Master in Eot with Thirteen's I aM sO MuCh mORe THan yOU that had a comment about how it's good we have a representation of "softer" male characters and "tougher" female ones and I just thought Huh. So you're telling me the core of the chacter did change along with gender?...
I should add, though: in the one piece of media that has Whittaker as Thirteen but no Chibnall that got released til now, the game Edge of Reality, she's really, really good! Just to be clear, the game itself is an absolute disaster gaming-wise, but the story is really something I want to consider a valid part of EU. It just... feels like the writers wrote it for any Doctor and tweaked it to fit in Thirteen's individual quirks, rather than starting from the quirks and then making a DW story out of them. And, since it also features Ten (whose ass you chase with the sonic. yes, I believe the Master was involved in the development), it answers the biggest question of all: yes, River would be very excited about her spouse being a woman now :3
18. it's absolutely criminal that the fandom has been sleeping on... CATMASTER!!! This isn't completely slept on, but there can never be enough Catmaster! Specifically the machnics of how the cheetah virus somehow stayed in their biodata and every Master after Ainley is literally a biological cat to some extent! And I guess I should finish the Chibnall negativity by praising bringing this up in canon again! The day the Doctor figures out they just need a laser pointer in the sonic can never come soon enough

I've never written fan fiction before, and I haven't even really read that much of it before finding this little community, but this show has gotten under my skin in a very serious way and I have this piece about Galadriel and Sauron that I kind of want to post. But I can't write sex scenes. They always turn out absurd (huge admiration for all the people here who can write these scenes so well! How do you do this?!)
So, apologies if this is a stupid question, but do people actually read non-erotic fan fiction? Are people going to give negative feedback if I tag something as being about this relationship but there's no sex and Galadriel and Sauron are both a bit clueless and very not-relatably-human in how they deal with the whole question of their relationship?
Thanks, and hope it's not a totally silly question.
This isn’t a silly question at all!
And the short answer is, omg yes, people will read and love your non smutty fanfic!
There are many different types of fics. Some aren’t even romantic. I’ve personally written two friendship fics during my time in fandom space, and the response to them both was beyond positive.
(Of course if you ever go that route you have to expect not to get nearly as many readers, as most people are here for the romance.) Also I should add, if you’re tagging fics as Sauron x Galadriel or Saurondriel, people are probably going to expect romance. If your fic is about a non-romantic relationship with a pairing, it’s probably best to tag it as Sauron & Galadriel.
When it comes to smut, there are a lot of readers who love the emotional connection between their ship just as much, if not more so, than the physical.
There are some people that find it hard to even enjoy the smutty aspects of a fic if the story or emotional parts are lacking. The story, romance, character development, and/or bond comes first and the smut is just the icing on the proverbial cake. But it’s also not necessary if all the other important ingredients are there.
Then there’s people who genuinely just don’t like reading smut. They absolutely exist. My ace brother is one of them. Boy’s been reading Harry Potter fanfic for almost a decade and has never once read a sex scene, nor will he ever lol.
Are people going to give negative feedback if I tag something as being about this relationship but there’s no sex and Galadriel and Sauron are both a bit clueless and not-relatably-human in how they deal with the whole question of their relationship?
This ship tag does not equal sex. I mean, sure some fans do want the sex, but that’s not an expectation unless you tag it as containing sex. So no, no one is going to be giving you negative feedback for that at all.
All I can tell you is to tag your fic properly. If there’s a certain trigger (character death, extreme violence, etc.) in your fic that you don’t tag, then yes, someone might get understandably upset about that. There are certain things people do not wish to read for their own enjoyment and mental health.
And oh my gosh, these two being clueless and not relatably human in how they deal with their relationship sounds AMAZING! I would absolutely read that with or without smut.
So go forth. Write your smutless fanfic. And have fun!

Please for my beloved Winter,, 9, 10, 15, 18, 20, and 22
ask meme!
9. If your OC were to imagine their idyllic life (realistically or otherwise) what would it be like?
honestly, winter wants a life of ease and to be able to rest. she wants to be able to settle down and not worry about all of the ways that the world is broken. it’s why she partially retires post 6.0 — she wants to live a life for herself rather than other people. she also desperately wants to be a mother; it’s not a necessity for her by any means, but in her perfect world. she’s settled, she’s married with kids, and she’s happy. it’s a big wish for her.
10. What piece of moody poetry or novel quote best encompasses your character?
i admittedly don’t read as much as i used to so i’m very behind on like, what poetry is what and all that. but there’s an excerpt from three women by sylvia plath i think of a lot for her:
The silver track of time empties into the distance, The white sky empties of its promise, like a cup. These are my feet, these mechanical echoes. Tap, tap, tap, steel pegs. I am found wanting.
15. What is a common misconception about your OC? (Alternatively, what do people assume about them which is either incorrect or misconstrued?)
that she’s a cold and cruel person. while she does have a very icy demeanor upon first glance, winter loves a lot and has a very big heart. she does fall into common mean girl tropes at first, given her upbringing and privilege that comes with wealthy parents - but that iciness is a guard that comes from fake friends using her only for money and status. i won’t ever call her like, overly warm or anything, but she’s definitely not an ice queen like people view her. she loves deeply and she loves fiercely.
18. What is one thing that they only let those closest to them see?
vulnerability. winter tries very hard to put on tough acts, or rather like. she doesn’t want people to see her for how she sees herself. she thinks she has to be a perfect example of heroism. she thinks she has to be strong and steady. so when one gets to know her on a level deeper than what she puts on for the public, they do see into like.. the more vulnerable side of her that’s just. so very tired.
20. What was the moment at which they knew they were in love, or was it a slow buildup?
rubbing my little hands together. with aleksei, it was a slow buildup after the initial shock she felt when their eyes met for the first time. at the time, she was with orrick, and as you know that relationship was just for show at best and extremely toxic at worst. so, fast forward to the end of a realm reborn, when the world feels like it’s broken for her for the first time. while she has river with her, and alphinaud and tataru, she still feels incredibly alone, because it’s her first time losing everything. she doesn’t think much on romance. she doesn’t think much on anything beyond survival and the next step that comes in the path she and river were guided upon. but then there’s aleksei. a like mind and someone who seems to see beyond the facade. it’s the first spark of something, it’s the first time she thinks of him beyond a mere acquaintance. the more time they spend together, the more spark she feels - soon enough, it’s a full blown fire. while it was a slow build, it definitely came rushing forward all at once. every smile, every passing glance and every written word - she treasures them all. and, she keeps every note he’s written.
22. What is some advice or guidance they received that had a big impact on their lives or outlook? Was it a positive or negative impact?
genuinely. i don’t think winter has ever received guidance or advice of any sort that has bettered her, or really made her worse? there is that bit about like, the legacy of parents etc, but like.. she had already decided for Herself so long ago that she was never going to be her parents. even if she was given advice it’s like... a 25/75 chance she’d take it lmao. we love to see it <3

Usually, I keep my reactions in the tags but this one- this one deserves so much more than that.
There might be mild spoilers ahead because I run my mouth too much, so if you're going to read this, be aware
I have to start off by saying personally, I have never been a fan of the fantasy genre. I've never been able to truly enjoy it because I can be quite a realist. The royalty genre is also something I'm not as interested in unless it's modern. When I'm reading, watching dramas or even writing, I tend to steer away from fantasy, and royalty because one, I'm no fun (don't like fantasy? holy shit, I must be so boring) and two, I wouldn't be able to do the justice a piece deserves because I wouldn't be able to enjoy it to the best.
but this. THIS. THIS PIECE OF WORK RIGHT HERE.
You'd be surprised to hear that the 36k word count isn't what scared me. It was the 'royalty au, high fantasy' I'm all for romance and slowburn but seeing these two I was like hmmm, should I actually or should I not. And to should is one of the best decision's I've ever made helloo??
This not only shows Jun + Fortitude's slow but sure falling but it generously focuses on her life, her relationships with the rest of the characters, and her past. Actually I think it's safe to say the romance bit was the one that was lacking and I find it so so amazing that you didn't let it stop you from showing Fortitude's journey, Jun's story, the past she's endured, the path to healing, the side stories of Soonyoung and Seungkwan, Jeonghan's entire story.
Everything was written in a way that just made me keep going, if you understand what I'm trying to say. Your words and your portrayal of each character and their side of a story was so amazing. Also it was so refreshing to see how Seungkwan's little crush issue was handled and also the jumping from angel's cliff part???
When I say I cried when Jun says run back and jump. I shed actual tears. The fact that he was not stopping her but rather making sure she would do it in a safer way. I'm just gonna die at this point.
This was just so amazing I actually don't have any words to convey how much I loved this?? Genuinely one of the best thing's I've ever read so far.
The ending took me by surprise because I was waiting to know what was going on with Soonyoung but help it's literally the perfect ending ever??? Just Jun and Fortitude clawing at each other not wanting to leave yet no one doing anything to make the other stay?? T'TELL ME SOMETHING TO MAKE ME HURT YOU' GIRL STFU HOW ABOUT I HURT MYSELF FOR YOU????
Sorry, my bad.
Okay I'm noticing that I'm ranting a little too much for a person who's supposed to be sane about what she reads online so yes, I shall stop here.
But let me once again give kudos to this amazing writer, she has such a way with words bro you left me rolling on the floor and clawing at the walls I swear. This will forever be etched in my heart. Just know that this changed me as a person. I love love love this and it deserves a whole lot of love because frankly, The sea is yours to take is one of the most beautiful fics I've ever come across on all my years on the internet black hole of fanfiction.
ALSO 'THE SEA IS STILL YOURS TO TAKE'????? ROLL THE MF CREDITS WEN JUNHUI YOU MADE ME CRY
Okay.
I'm normal I swear
Bye
100000/10 I will read this at my grave, op thank you for this masterpiece and for the gods for making me stumble upon it
Signing off, a very sane Esa who is very normal about a Junhui fic she read online
the sea is yours to take
pairing: wen junhui x fem!reader genre: royalty au, high fantasy, romance, slow burn   warnings: mentions of death, violence (but it’s usually friendly) wc: 36k (it’s so long, i know, i’m sorry)
Tumblr media
synopsis: The Seven Sins and the Seven Gifts of the Spirit are warriors, exceptionally skilled in fighting, and they’re all dead. That is, all except you, The Gift of Fortitude. It’s an uneasy time in the kingdom with eastern Lords and northern bandits threatening a rebellion. You feel that it’s your duty to try and maintain peace within the kingdom. But when the King sends you away for an act of treason, you aren’t sure how much you can do so far away from home. And it certainly doesn’t help that Jun, the southern Lord of the estate you’ve been sent to, seems to hate your guts.   a/n: this is so long, and the beginning is kind of slow but like, i think it’d be pretty dope if you were to stick it out just sayin
Tumblr media
—THE GIFT OF FORTITUDE—
“Lady Gift,” the words rush out of the servant’s mouth, you hum allowing him to continue, “The King asks of your presence.”
“Very well then. Tell him I’m him coming,”
And as soon as the servant had entered the equipment room, he leaves as well. Out of fear. Out of urgency. Perhaps out of both. You had assumed it was only a matter of time until the King would call for you. Afterall, murdering one of his most trusted lords who’s also a member of his council is not a crime that goes undiscussed.

1. The Love Hypothesis (5⭐)
Adam is the best book boyfriend ever, Olive is so relatable and sweet! Fake Dating is probably my favorite trope, and it's written so well that I felt like it was me falling in love with my professor! The scenes where they were alone, talking from their hearts, are so nice! The PDA is so exhilarating and the spice is amazing! Adam handled the conflict in the end so beautifully and protective! I'm so in love with him!
“If you say another word about the woman I love, if you look at her, if you even think about her - I’m going to fucking kill you.”
2. People We Meet On Vacation (5⭐)
Falling in love with a best friend is honestly my ideal scenario in real life! Alex is amazing, and we can feel his love for Poppy since the first time we see them! Their relationship is amazing, and I'm in love with it! There is a scene of him taking care of her while she's sick... and I cannot even begin to explain how much this makes me giggly and in love! I could not stop smiling the whole time I was reading this book, I felt so seen and loved! Amazing experience!
“I don't think I knew I was lonely until I met you.”
3. A Not So Meet Cute (5⭐)
Enemies to lovers is top tier, there's no denying it! Huxley and Lottie begin their relationship with a mutual interest agreement, she needs money and he needs a fake fiancée! Reading them living this fake relationship, while feelings grow on dual POV is *chef's kiss*! I also want a rich husband to take care of me, and to do the things Hux does to Lottie, I'm not gonna say anything further.
“Eyes trained on mine, he brings my hand to his mouth, places a soft kiss on my knuckles, and then breaks our connection as he backs away.”
4. The Hating Game (5⭐)
I never thought I'd enjoy an office romance, but this one is a Rivals to Lovers romance! Joshua is a dream partner, and the banter with Lucy is immaculate! I genuinely laughed out loud several times reading this book! Also, it has the best first kiss ever! Not to mention he takes care of her while she’s sick and this situation is my soft spot! There are people who might say Josh is a walking red flag, but to be honest, red is my favorite color! Please, I just want a man who loves me so much that he paints his bedroom wall the same color as my eyes, and who keeps every single piece of paper I ever gave to him!
“The first smile Joshua’s ever had in my presence is pressed against my lips.”

5. Beach Read (4,7⭐)
I guess the main subject of this book can be interpreted as romance, but for me was so much more important on the grief and missing someone you love! It is the only book that made me cry this year. The story is beautiful and sad, but also comforting and peaceful. The author had so much sensitivity while approaching the subject of hurt towards someone who’s not in your life anymore, and how to deal with conflicted feelings, like love and betrayal. The romance part of it is really cute, Augustus is so supportive of January and they feel complete together, even when they started their dynamic as rivals in college.
“I wished I could stay in an emotional cryogenic chamber that would allow me to sleep through the worst of whatever heartbreak I was avoiding.”
6. The Spanish Love Deception (4,7⭐)
This book’s an office romance, and an enemies to lovers one! Mr. Aaron Blackford is a dream, I cannot even begin to describe him! The man bakes his own granola bars, for god’s sake! He takes care of Catalina when she passes out from not eating, and helps her with her work! Although I had some difficulty liking Lina, she became a lot more enjoyable once their agreement was settled. Great book, great romance! I’ve seen people complaining about the duration of the wedding, but it was just perfect for me!
“I’ll give you the world,” he said against my mouth. “The moon. The fucking stars. Anything you ask, it’s yours. I’m yours.”
7. It Happened One Summer (4,7⭐)
I was not expecting a book with such a cute cover to have the best spice I’ve ever read! Brendan is a great man, and he treats Piper with so much care and love! The journey Piper goes through is great to read, it is emotional and comforting, and the outcome is so cute! The miscommunication trope is a bit strong in this book, but the solution is satisfactory enough!
“Your daughter will always have a place in my heart. But Piper owns that heart. She came here and robbed me blind of it.”
8. Hook, Line, and Sinker (4,7⭐)
Just for starts, it is amazing to read this story with snippets of Piper and Brendan’s life, they are so cute together! But back with this book’s plot, I really enjoyed it. Fox’s so cute in love, and insecure a scared, and Hannah knows how to break his emotional walls so well. I love the relationship they build from the friendship they previously had, it felt so real and natural! But besides the great story, the author gave us an amazing epilogue where we see both sisters with their lovers and children, it felt so complete and comforting!
“Fox, listen to me. I don’t care how many different beds you’ve been in. I know you belong in mine.”

9. Promises and Pomegranates (4,7⭐)
So… as I’ve stated before, my favorite color is red… right? This book screams “red flag!” all over it, but I loved every single moment of it! It also showed me things about myself that I had never even though about! The spice is pretty, pretty nice, and the overall plot is interesting enough! Kal’s extremely hot while being violent (don’t judge me!) and I felt exactly like Elena, I’m sure.
“Without her, I feel like one half of a soul, existing aimlessly, waiting for the earth to reclaim me the way I have so many others.”
10. The Kiss Quotient (4,7⭐)
I can’t even begin to explain how much I relate to Stella! This book put questions about autism in my head, not gonna lie! Their romance is so enticing and loving, he’s so delicate with her, treats her like a princess and sew clothes for her, and is so careful! Michael’s the perfect man, he has my heart! Really cute book, with great characters, and overall lovely!
“She didn’t know how to be semi-interested in something. She was either indifferent . . . or obsessed.”
11. Fix Her Up (4,6⭐)
The struggle of being the youngest of the family is really relatable, and Georgie express the feel immaculately, the frustration of not being taken serious or treated like an adult! Travis is a bit annoying, but not in a bad way… it’s part of his character, the jock! The romance is good, the spice is nice, and the resolution of the conflict is cute! Not the way I’d particularly want to be proposed to, but cute nonetheless!
“I’ve met het twice in my life. This time, I was smart enough to fall in love with her.”
12. Delilah Green Doesn't Care (4,6⭐)
Sapphic romance with a single mom! I didn’t thought I’d enjoy it so much! Delilah is the typical brunette character who’s grumpy and hurt, my favorite! The way she begins to develop feelings for Claire almost instantly is really cute. The resolution of the conflict with Delilah’s sister is so good, so heartfelt. The author was really sensitive telling this story, it’s heartwarming and wholesome!
“I’m putting you first, Claire. In case you couldn’t tell, that’s what’s happening here.”

13. Spoiler Alert (4,5⭐)
This story hits close to home for me, being a fat woman who consumes things with an unhealthy obsession! The romance in it is very appealing, it made me imagine myself falling in love with Jensen Ackles… (I’m not proud of it, I know he’s happily married!) Having this in mind, I can say that I don’t really agree with the proportion the conflict between the main couple took. I’d trust Marcus with my life, and April eventually got there with me. It’s a cute story, filled with love and devotion!
“He’d give her love because she deserved it, and because he couldn’t help it.”
14. The Unhoneymooners (4,2⭐)
I’m gonna start by saying that this book had everything to be a five star reading, but Ethan’s behavior towards his brother's assault accusation… I can’t! The way he handled the information, and belittled his girlfriend? It is a great story till this point. The banter is exceptional, the tension during the beginning of the trip, the snowballing of lies, everything is immaculate! But I can’t get over his actions, neither Olive’s decision to forgive him.
“It's so exhausting pretending to hate you.”
15. Tipping the Velvet (4⭐)
The story of a 19th century lesbian who fell in love with an actress, and struggles with her gender? That could be me in a past life! Nan’s journey from the moment she met Kitty, to the moment she really found love with Flo is so hard, so sad, so tragic and filled with suffering! The outcome is good, she does get a happy ending, but the struggles were too much for me, it took me a long time to finish this book… it was an experience… but I did not dislike it!
“But there was something very appealing about that Fe-Male. I saw myself in it - in the hyphen.”

16. A Court of Thorns and Roses (4,5⭐)
What a rollercoaster! This story is so full of things, a bunch of different vibes all over! Feyre has a hate and fear of Tamlin, which later becomes love and devotion (I would’ve fallen in love with Lucien, tho) and it’s so intense! Amarantha is such a bitch, but Rhys was kinda hot making Tamlin and Lucien kneel for him. Under the mountain was traumatic for me, but the ending was satisfactory! And Feyre got a sick tattoo! Nice!
"Because I'd want someone to hold my hand until the end, and awhile after that. That's something everyone deserves, human or faerie.”
17. A Court of Mist and Fury (5⭐)
WTF Tamlin??? I loved you!!! Rhys is the best thing that ever happened to Feyre (and to me, tbh) and their bond is so fun to read about! Their mind dialogue is unmatched! This is the best fantasy book I’ve read so far, the plotting with the mortal queens, and the conflict with the king at the end *chef’s kiss*! I love everyone on the Inner Circle, and Velaris is my dream home! Also, I’ve never shipped a couple so much before, I feel like the Suriel!
"You are my salvation, Feyre!”
18. A Court of Wings and Ruin (4,7⭐)
I’m not fan of battle scenes, but this book is immaculate! I felt the tension every time they were fighting! Feyre being a spy and destroying Tamlin’s court is everything I’ve ever wanted to see! The sisters fighting alongside the Inner Circle is amazing, and their father’s death is so sad! Overall this book is amazing, and emotional, I love it! Nothing but respect for my High Lady and my High Lord!
“I would have waited five hundred more years for you. A thousand years. And if this was all the time we were allowed to have... the wait was worth it.”
19. A Court of Frost and Starlight (4,7⭐)
This book feels like a reward for all the traumatic experiences I’ve survived on the last three books! I loved it! The dynamic of the Inner Circle is amazing to read, their lives getting back on track and the beginning of planning for permanent peace of all courts! A fun read, like a rainbow after a storm!
“You were meant to be at my side from the very beginning.”
20. A Court of Silver Flames (4,9⭐)
CASSIAN!!! I can’t begin this with anything else, besides stating that Cassian has me on a chokehold, what a male!!! Nesta is my favorite Archeron sister, I relate to her in a spiritual level! Well, anyway, this book is amazing. Nesta’s trauma and the way she has to learn how to live with it is so inspiring, so sad and difficult, but so real! The spice in this book is amazing, one of the best I’ve ever read! But also, the romance is amazing, the friendships and pure love are so sensitive and wholesome!
“Music was no longer the most beautiful thing in existence. He was.”

21. Throne of Glass (4,4⭐)
Celaena is the best main character I’ve read in my life, she’s so unapologetic rude and confident… I love a good assassin! The premise of this book is quite interesting, and it has a bit of romance in it too! I shipped the wrong couple, tho. The violence is a bit explicit and dark, but it makes sense in the context of the story, which has a good conclusion and enough of space to speculation for where the story is heading to.
“I never intended to escape.”
22. Crown of Midnight (4,6⭐)
This book is much more entertaining than the last one, the story is more personal and I felt a lot more connected to the characters! I don’t usually cry while reading, but I’m not gonna lie, my eyes got a bit wet when Fleetfoot was waiting for Nehemia. I do not like the couple Celaena and Chaol, I just can’t feel anything besides friendship between them! Celaena is fae!!! Celaena is Aelin!!! What a great ending, a great way to keep me curious and excited for the next one!
“Everyone sounded the same when they died.”
