as embarrassing as your adeptal form is, you'll admit that Legacy's hand is quite comfortable, especially when you nestle down and fluff up your feathers. he curls his claws in slightly so you won't fall, carrying you around your domain and letting you enjoy the sun- he knows the feeling of wanting to be in the form that's most natural to you for a few hours. it's what Ajax feels after days of not using Foul Legacy, the urge to transform and curl up amidst several soft pillows gnawing at his subconscious. sometimes, if he also wants to bask in the sunlight, he'll set you on his head, allowing you to nest in his soft copper hair as you take a nap together.

you apologize profusely once you transform back into a human, face warm as you bow your head. but Foul Legacy just purrs, leaning in to scoop you into his arms again and cradling your human self, giving you a playful lick on the cheek. don't worry- he'll hold you close always, adeptal or human form.

That's a question I ask myself a lot!

I know I can't watch a lot of popular western media because everything is so psychological. Nothing is a myth or an ancient tale anymore, everything is a metaphor for trauma and healing and it all follows the guidelines from the books I know.

(Song of the Sea is an excellent example. it's beautiful but not the type of fairytale I want to see. too much psychoanalysis)

Genshin doesn't suffer from that and it's refreshing. Their "healing" stories are very different.

So that's my argument towards them not having a psychologist on the team, but also psychology is undoubtedly taught differently in China and maybe that's the real reason.

Genshin also has a track record of somewhat baffling autistic representation (Alhaitham, Cyno, possibly Lynette. I'm sure I forgot someone), accurate in small rarely portrayed details but generally I wouldn't assume they were written with a diagnosis in mind. Looks more like someone observant borrowed traits from autistic people they knew personally. Like they broadly know what autistic spectrum is but tend to treat autistic qualities as interchangeable with schizoid traits and never dived deep into theory of how exactly it works.

They also show flavours of trauma I rarely see portrayed.

For example, Lyney's flirting is a fawning response, he does that when people threaten him or when he's generally not in control. His type of charm is something I expect from people with really unstable childhoods ("ran away from abusive parents to join a hippie/anarchist commune at 13" level of unstable), which is exactly what his story is.

This is not how I would expect a psychologist to approach writing a magician. I wouldn't even expect them to be familiar with the type. These people can't afford therapy and also an average therapist has very little to offer them.

Therapists/counsellors who do work in niches where they get clients like that don't normally leave their careers to write for video games.

Who does see them? Social workers. People from queer spaces. Esoteric crowd. These people are also very likely to end up as writers and not mind video game industry wages and working hours. They also usually have at least a passing interest in psychology (which would be consistent with the level of psychological knowledge I see in Genshin: clearly not professional but above what an average pop-psychology fan knows). Considering the themes we get in Genshin, I'd say Hoyo has all three.

So I assume they don't have a psychologist but they have a bunch of people with very interesting lives.

PLEAJSJCB I’m so glad. It’s like. you’re feel youre being watched by an intimidating force everytime u think about running by the pool and u turn around to see him sitting ominously still and vigilantly in his chair half obscured by foreboding shade. U try to thank him for saving ur life and he looks at u very stiffly and awkwardly and gives u a very serious “your welcome” type sentiment that involves him mentioning he became vigilant with spotting endangered lives in active environments bc of The War. U do not know what The War is. This is the Genshin impact beach modern AU filler episode

Gonna be real, I think Hoyo made Arlecchino really boring

It's been awhile and the Arlecchino story quest just got worse for me. With all the buildup she's had through trailers and the archon quests she always came off as a dangerous unknowable person, who at the very least has morals.

But I feel like Hoyo has been taking the easy route with her. By the end of the quest I feel zero intimidation with her because despite the stuff she does it doesn't phase me anymore because I expect her to not actually do anything threatening or unexpected.

She doesn't actually kill the hearth kids and probably planned not to from the beginning and she didn't actually kill that one guy who left for love, just gave him a beta version of the flame bottle.

Plus all the actually interesting stuff with her is no longer relevant at all in the story. She has the kids rat each other out if they say anything against the hearth, raises child soldiers that die in her protection despite saying to "put yourself first", she tells Freminet crying is bad, Lyney has like so many issues she specifically caused.

I think the worse part is that like I've said before Arlecchino can care about the Hearth kids and can have a sympathetic backstory and be better then Crucabena as a father. But at the same time she's still a fatui harbinger who has been shown time and time again to be someone who does morally questionable things but Hoyo keeps choosing the easier options then actually doing anything slightly dubious.

If you think Arlecchino is well written though, props to you genuinely.

Thinking about how Wanderer appreciates Nahida giving him a chance & considers himself indebted to her as a result but on some level thinks he just isn’t worth the effort of trying to help, especially on the grounds of finding companionship :(

Ship asks! what’s your favorite headcanon for xiaoven?

Okay so when I was firs thinking about this question I had a few ideas, cuz I do have quite a few headcanons that I passively apply to xiaoven pretty much every time I write them. But then I actually realized that they're all just headcanons about Venti that are applicable to xv?? Embarrassing. But I was able to remember one!

My favorite xiaoven headcanon is that Xiao's vision is the first one that Venti ever gave after becoming the Anemo Archon.

This ties in with quite a few ideas I tend to use about how vision granting works (They come from the Archons of their elements, and the Archon does have some consciousness of when and to who visions are being given) and the spiritual connection that vision holders have with their Archons, which basically adds up to Venti and Xiao having this very long-lasting connection to each other through Xiao's vision.

Over the years, Venti has obviously given a lot of visions, and he's felt most of those vision holders come and go as they grow old and die. But for Xiao to not only be such an old vision holder, but also Venti's first, I would think that there's a depth to that bond that has made Xiao almost integral to Venti's being. He always has this feeling of loss when one of his anemo vision holders dies, but if he were to ever lose Xiao, it would feel as if someone reached in and tore out a part of his soul.

I also like this idea for what it lends to Venti's side of the xv pining factor. Because Xiao is so often written in fics to have this feeling of indebtedness to Venti for saving him from his karmic debt, and prior to their meet cute Venti would be oblivious to this. But the idea of Venti carrying a piece of Xiao with him for most of his existence as an Archon, holding this cry for freedom and salvation so close to himself and wanting so desperately to know if that child was able to find the help that he needed just rots my brain in horrible ways.

It makes their yearning for each other more mutual, because Xiao idolizes Barbatos so much and wants to pay back his debt to him, while Venti still thinks of his first child from time to time and wants to know if he ever found happiness. And mutual pining is just so tasty, I don't really know what else to say <3
