Candace/Dehya/Dunyarzad, for @polyshipweek Day 1 prompt "Road Trip."

At the end of Dunyarzad and Dehya's trip to the desert, Candace decides to accompany them back to Caravan Ribat to spend just a little more time with them.

This one is just some light bonding and poking at their dynamics (someday I will write them the big long slowburn canon-divergence AU, but this was not that day), with no actual plot, but I did enjoy writing them some fluff!

sometimes i do just think about sumeru archon quest...i can't remember any in genshin lore where so many characters played such a huge role in the storyline and so cleanly. and how well-built the power structures/institutions are.

screams and bashes my head against the wall...the way sumeru is literally structured upon the pursuit of knowledge and wisdom but it's become a bastardized theocracy because of the akademiya sages.

the way it's literally a council of conservatives who hate the idea of moving forward with 'lesser lord' kusanali because that would actually require them to relinquish power to their god. the way they corrupt rukkhadevata's name for their own purposes because, well, she doesn't exist anymore, does she? she can't object to what they do in her name, can she? the way they intentionally pit the common people against each other and frame academia as a competition and make the entire population dependent on a network instead of their own thought so that every new generation is either burning themselves out or throwing away their identity...as long as they aren't questioning what the sages want to accomplish.

but, like. the archon quest. the traveler pops back between sumeru city and the desert because it's crucial to the development of this sociopolitical commentary. we get to see the exploitation of the desert region first-hand.

and the supporting cast is so so good. cyno, general mahamatra, and al-haitham, the akademiya scribe, give up the prestige of their titles in favor of doing the right thing: freeing nahida. dehya and candace/kandake are fighting for recognition and proper treatment of their people (dehya's character teaser literally focusing on how she uses her mercenary money to fund education for orphans and children in the desert!!) and a life free of exploitation from people claiming themselves to be "scholars." nilou tying up her mini-arc in the archon quest about how the akademiya suppresses creative liberty and the arts in order to maintain their hierarchy, nilou being the face of the resistance, nilou using her art as a method of protest and being crucial to the rescue of nahida!!

and hoyo writers tying up the socio-political commentary after the main conflict is over...nahida working with the akademiya and deshret worshippers to reconcile the prejudices and systemic oppression of the desert villages! eremites and candace and dehya and even npcs like setaria (who plays a major part in introducing the whole deshret-rukkhadevata conflict) being a part of the resolution! random notion but i really liked setaria and i'm so glad she chose to resign from the akademiya because it wasn't staying true to her moral principles in order to help improve education in her desert home ;-;

every character plays a part and i love it. i was rooting for them so hard and i was so close to crying when nahida finally got to step outside for the first time in 500 years. like !!! sumeru's archon quest got you so attached to the characters in such a little amount of time...i'm big-eyed about it all...

(also al-haitham organizing the coup so he wouldn't have to have more responsibilities in the akademiya, only to be named acting grand sage because his coup literally deposed every other possible candidate, was really funny)

So, about your found family head canon, I absolutely LOVE it and I wanted to give you my own take on it!!

I like to also include Candace, Razor, and Wanderer (I know that one might not make sense but hear me out lmao)

I think Cyno would Candace as a big sister! She gives off that vibe to everyone but I feel like she would be more close with Cyno considering they're both from. Or maybe they knew each other while Cyno lived in the desert. (We NEED more more Cyno lore *sob*)

As for Razor, I think during their visit to Mondstadt Razor would become intrigued with Cyno because of the ears on his helmet (hat?). Also....those two are suspiciously alike🤨 white hair, red eyes... (Cyno has lighter eyes but they're similar) I wouldn't be surprised if genshin pulled a long lost brother thing on us🧍 Anyway, I think they would become close, and Razor would look up to him a lot!! He would start to see Cyno as his "lupical" and I think Cyno would enjoy spending time with Razor, teaching him fighting tactics and so on

And Wanderer (or Scaramouche). I think his bratty mean persona would make him really...hard to be close to. But I think he and Collei would actually be somewhat "friends". I think the traveler would be talking about Collei to Wanderer and bring up her relationship with Dottore which would immediately peak his interest. And maybe he would go to see her to ask her about it, and then they would be able to bond over being victims of Dottore. I think he would gain the role of the "overprotective big brother" and glare at anyone who dare LOOK at her the wrong way. I'm not saying this relationship would be likely, it's just fun to think about!

I also think about how awkward it would be bringing up the time when Tighnari got struck by lightning....

WAAAAH Cyno and Candace are so BESTIE CODED !!! Yes candace give a big sister vibe ! I love to imagine that Cyno likes visiting Candace, when he has time... And also I imagine he participate to girls party once, with Candace Dehya Nilou Dunyarzad and Setaria. Idk. I just feel like he wants to be included. Dehya and Setaria would be a bit against at first but Candace Nilou Dunyarzad thought the idea funny, so he joined. In the end, they all spend great time ! For Razor and Cyno, yes !!! I agree with your idea. I also enjoy a lot the potential friendship between Collei and Razor !! They are both studying language, they could study together. Since Razor has more difficulty about language, Collei would help him (and I am sure she will feel accomplishment,, like,,, she is helping someone!!! in studying!!)

Razor would definitively talk about Varka to Cyno ahahaha (i love varka plz when is he playable, at least i need to know how does he look like) And for Wanderer... I saw a lot of fanart of Collei and him, trashtalking about dottore. It would be super cool if Wanderer first friend (after his redemption arc, if we don't count Nahida nor Traveler) is Collei ! I have another scenario for them starting to talk Wanderer is just chilling in Avidya Forest (missing school). Then he heard a voice in a tree... like wtf. It was a girl voice, ranting about her life. He wouldn't care a lot but then he heard the mention of Dottore. The curiosity gain him. Trash talk about dottore ?? It is not often he can hear it. Bro is eardropping (bad thing to do) but Collei notice him (someone find her hidden place, she could die of embarrassment) but Wanderer couldn't help himself to trashtalk to dottore- and they keep talking But I wonder... if Scaramouche participate in those same experiment, and saw Collei ? He was about to end the conversation, feeling guilty, and never talk to Collei again, but Collei thank him for the talk. Maybe it wouldn't bad to see her again, one day ? OOOH YOUKNOW I AM SURE KAVEH AND TIGHNARI MET WHEN THEY WERE KID. I MEAN !!!! Their parents knows each other when they were young. Maybe they met, but they wasn't that close. After Kaveh asked some advice for his project, they started to talk more, and then their friendship come more naturally Have a nice day too!!!

The Inazuma Yokai Event

Just finished the Inazuma Yokai Festival thingy and am left with only bitter disappointment.

I actually really enjoyed the first two acts of the event. Itto definitely carried the story and I liked his goofy antics. Plus the yokai kids wanting to throw a festival was super cute! In concept, this event is A+.

Then Act III happened. As usual, Hoyoverse used Yae to resolve all the problems in the plot, just as they do every time she shows up in a story (Inazuma Archon Quest, Fabulous Fungus Frenzy). I pulled her recently and she's super fun, so it made me forget that I actually dislike her because of her writing. Like as a yokai, plus the subplot with Ei, plus the fact she's a manipulative kitsune type character - I love the idea of her! But writing-wise she's someone idea of a charismatic manipulator type. She just comes across as bitchy and condescending if you can't magically guess what's happening, which also has no build up or meaningful resolution outside of Yae talking.

Like the idea of Chizuru is also interesting and the idea of her tying into the festival more could be good. But like. The fact Yae resolved her plot (and the fact she was just kinda there and taking away from the yokai kids subplot) just makes me disinterested. At least Ayato's role wasn't annoying? Though he's starting to get pigeonholed in the same role as Yae in plot resolution...

Also the yokai kids! F in the chat for your models. Brooo I wish we got more yokai lore with them/Itto/Yae because at least that's interesting? And also because Inazuma is unclear as to what it was like in the past. Even Sumeru (my beloathed) gives me a clearer picture of the past with Rukkhadevata/Goddess of Flowers/Deshret + Akademiya vs. Eremites. With Inazuma it's just "Makoto good! Cataclysm bad! All of Ei's friends are dead, isn't it sad? There are a bunch of different wars/rebellions that happened for some reason but we're not going to elaborate on them or why they happened even though characterizing Makoto would be good, actually."

Like, as a trend for female characters (and also Zhongli) Hoyoverse just doesn't want any character flaws for them? Like @kyogre-blue mentioned in their liveblog, you could extrapolate that Makoto was a weak ruler because there were so many wars/rebellions during her lifetime. Rukkhadevata fucked up hard with the treatment of the Eremites during her reign. The fact Kusanali doesn't see Katheryne as a person/manipulates Setaria/doesn't see flaws with her predecessor's treatment of the Eremites is an indication of her sheltered nature and how she needs to grow as a ruler. But Hoyoverse doesn't want to criticize any of that? All of Genshin's female characters are good, misunderstood girls who want the best for you. Except in lore, where they get nice flavor text. (This also extends to the NPCs, like Chizuru here).

Genshin's running theme I guess: it could have been so good, but it isn't.

like GOD sorry I have so many questions and I’m so in love with this idea — would sumeru’s playables essentially be the phantom thieves?? would traveller be trying to steal the sages’ hearts or key individuals instead (like setaria — I think that’s how it’s spelled)? would personas just be visions or would the traveller gain a different power in the metaverse?

I think there's potential for two different AUs here.

1. Modern AU. Nahida as Morgana, Collei as Futaba, and probably Cyno as Sojiro (rip Tighnari). Visions/constellations become Personas, so some of the PCs become the Phantom Thieves. (Dottore as Shido? Childe as Akechi? Heizou???). The traveler would be like the protagonist and have several personas. Maybe their twin is dead lol.

2. My preference is a canon-type au where they have to steal hearts. In my heart of hearts, I want Cyno with a palace. God, could you imagine? It'd be so good. I think the playable characters would be the phantom thieves. Idk how that would work with Cyno-- he'd probably have to be one, but god, I want him with a palace like Futaba's. They'd probably have to steal the sages' hearts, or key researchers to figure out what's going on. I think Setaria is a solid pick for one of them, and maybe Rahman too? And of course Azar. In the end, I suppose they'd have to steal Scara's.

Cyno having a palace would work with him as an antagonist who never left the Akademiya and is investigating the change of hearts (maybe his palace is the Akademiya and it's a prison), or he still leaves the Akademiya, and the existence of his palace is something genuinely shocking to the traveler + companions.
