I’m settling for “I Have to Start Acting like I Care” as translation for the novel title 我要开始装逼了
The difficulty in translating this title lies on the internet slang 装逼 (zhuāng bī), which literally means “pretending to be B.”
A friend suggested I translate it as “pretense” or “putting up a front,” but neither of those felt right to me since the protagonist Zhuang Bei isn’t really being pretentious or doing 装逼. The system wants him to do that, but he’s not really cooperating.
There are times, however, when he is forced to reveal his skills, but he’s not doing it because he wants to show off. He just has this habit of rescuing people in danger. He doesn’t actually care about those people, although it may seem like that to outsiders.
So yeah, with that context, I feel it’s more appropriate to translate the title as “I Have to Start Acting like I Care.” I haven’t actually finished the novel, though, so I don’t know if such a translation would hold in the later chapters...
I hate translating titles, so sometimes I let machine translation do the job for me but....
THIS IS JUST RIDICULOUS 😭😭😭

A crash in your dead husband’s study pulled you from a nap in your boudoir, not bothering with even a robe to cover your white chemise. No one had been in that room for years, and that got your heart pumping in your throat. Was there a burglar? A monster didn’t seem likely in the dead of day. Either way, you scampered in, curling your hands, preparing to weave a spell.
A handsome man, with his boots up, was sitting behind your dead husband’s desk. His arms were crossed behind his head, casual, as if he had every right to be in here. “Now, what do we have here?” He said in a melodic, low voice.
“Shouldn't I be asking you the same thing?!” You demanded.
“I knew something was drawing me to this house but I wasn’t sure who. You’re a sight for sore eyes, sweetheart,” The man proclaimed.
You put both of your hands on your hips. “Listen, there are no magical artifacts in this house. There’s no reason for you to be here. Leave.”
“The name's Yunho,” Yunho introduced himself, ignoring your command. He stood up from the desk and began to walk around.
“I don’t care who you are or what your name is. You should leave. Now.”
“Now why would I leave when I could provide you with a very important service that I believe you’ve been lacking for quite some time.” Yunho smirked.
You felt heat move up your face. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
Yunho circled you, like a predator after his prey. His words seemed to wind about you like a spell, curling something inside of your stomach that had lied dormant for many years. “I bet I could have you whimpering for me the minute I bend you over this desk, sweetheart.”
“How do you know?” You demanded.
“Your skin practically screams touch-starved,” Yunho whispered against your skin.
“I--I haven't been touched since my husband died,” You admitted barely above a whisper.
Yunho’s hands skimmed your curves over your white nightdress. “That's too bad. Your body is made for a lover.” He squeezed your breasts, your thighs, your ass. Anything he could get his hands on, he appreciated.
You whined in the back of your throat. “I…I can't!”
“What's stopping you, Sweetheart?” Yunho said in a deep voice.
“It's unbecoming of a lady witch,” You replied as Yunho’s hands slowly began to pull up your skirt.
“No one has to know,” Yunho tempted you, tongue hot on your neck, sucking and licking.
“They'll know!” You lamented. “They'll whisper behind their hands. They'll smell it on me.”
“Oh sweetheart,” Yunho chuckled, “the only people that will know that I fucked you good will be me and your pussy.”
“I… I want this so badly,” You whimpered.
“I can give you unlimited pleasure that you’ll never experience with a human. I just need your go ahead, lovely.” Yunho stood in front of you, flowing shirt and tight pants a temptation itself. You were thrown off by the human comment, however.
“What are you?” You demanded.
Yunho’s form wavered for a moment, like his body was emanating enough heat to mimic a heat wave. And then he gained certain features the bespoke of what exactly he was. He had horns that curled around the top of his skull. He had a tail that ended in a spade. His eyes had a ring of yellow around his iris. He screamed ‘incubus’ to you and you shivered.
“There is more.” Yunho’s eyes tightened in worry. “You can say no but I promise you, they will only give you pleasure.”
“More?” You said in awe that he had more hiding away that could give you pleasure. Your eyes immediately moved down towards his nether region.
Yunho couldn't help but laugh. “No, that one is obvious. Although you’re not exactly cold either.”
“Show me,” You said, some thrill-seeking nerve in you speaking out.
From behind his lower back came two long, black tethers. They moved of their own accord, one on each side of Yunho. “These are my tentacles. Succubus’s chose to receive wings as their extra feature, but us incubus's have these. They secrete their own viscous fluid, so you needn’t worry in that area. They provide me with some pleasure as well. If you must know.” Was Yunho… nervous about revealing his tentacles?
“Will you have me?” Yunho asked again. “Your body is drawing me in. Your magic is flirting with mine. I can’t stay here a moment longer if I can’t have you.”
If the allure of the demon himself hadn't been enough, that sentence sure was. Who could say no to an incubus that proclaimed that he would die without your touch?
“Oh-okay, Yunho. You have my permission. Take me as you will,” You stuttered.
Yunho smiled endearingly at you. “Okay, you asked for it.”
Yunho swiped everything off the desk and made you sit on it. He informed you that all you had to do was tap his arm, once ‘okay and twice ‘stop’. You might have wondered why you needed nonverbal communication until Yunho stuck one of his tentacles into your mouth. He moaned as your tongue naturally curled around it. He shallowly fucked your cheek and cursed.
“For someone so out of practice…” He gasped. He pulled out his tentacle, and you flicked the straps of your nightgown like you were both of the same mind. His two wet tentacles went straight for your nipples, swirling around the areola until your nipples pebbled, and then they wound around your breasts, squeezing them, the tips of the tentacles casually flicking your nipples.
You smiled wickedly. “How do you think I kept from pushing out brats for the old Warlock I was married to?”
You moaned as Yunho leaned in, cupping your cunt under the skirt of your chemise. “Oh, you’re wet and trembling, lovely.”
“This feels so gloriously good,” You admitted.
Yunho played with you with his fingers while his tentacles continued to play with your breasts. You pouted and panted at being stimulated so much. “I know… I need to… be spoiled… but! Don’t--oh god, right there!” You grabbed Yunho’s wrist and pressed his fingers in you further. “Fuck yes! Don’t forget--hnnnnnn--about yourself!”
Yunho was surprised for a moment before lifting an eyebrow at you. “Did you really enjoy my tentacle in your mouth that much?”
The heavy weight on your tongue had been one of your only pleasures in life. Yes, you did miss it. “Please put your nice tentacle in my mouth, Yunho?”
Yunho released one of your breasts to maneuver his tentacle into your mouth again. He was taken by surprise again when you wrapped both your hands around it and moaned. You added a sharp little zap with your magic and Yunho was the one moaning.
Your orgasm was approaching but Yunho didn’t want your first one to be with his fingers. He slowed his fingers inside of you and you whined.
“Gonna fuck you, sweetheart, don’t worry,” Yunho assured you.
Yunho yanked you by your thighs and brought you flush with the end of the desk. He easily squeezed into your wet cunt and you let out a choked cry. It had been so long, too long. The one tentacle that had been playing with your breast left your boobs slick with the liquid that kept the tentacles wet. It teased your puckered hole and you gasped around Yunho’s tentacle.
Yunho tilted his head cutely. “I told you that I’d give you more pleasure than a human ever could. My tentacles are perfect for your little virgin hole.”
You nodded your head and Yunho moved his tentacle like it was a tongue playing with your hole. He played with the sensitive nerves on the outside first until your muscles untensed. Meanwhile, your mouth and cunt were getting stuffed and you couldn't be happier. However, when Yunho pushed his tentacle in your puckered hole, you were driven to the ultimate pleasure, just like Yunho promised.
You squealed as you were fucked so throughly. Yunho looked wicked above you, his horns curving around his head and his tail curled around one of your ankles. His hands replaced the tentacles around your breasts. His nimble fingers played with your nipples, still slick with the tentacle's wetness. Your eyes rolled into the back of your head. You slipped into a place where only pleasure existed.
Yunho moved his mouth close to your ear to whisper, “When you come, it will be the most delicious feeding I’ll have ever had. Will you do that for me? Will you come hard for me? Let me feel pleasure in all of your holes with all my appendages?”
You weren’t sure if it was the fucking in your ass that you had never experienced but was nontheless a pleasurable expereince, or the way that Yunho’s curved dick stroked a place inside of you that you never even knew could be reached, but either way your climax was hard, just like Yunho wanted. You screamed around his tentacle and blacked out for a few minutes. Yunho squirted inside all of your holes, excreting a black, viscous liquid down your throat and in both of your lower holes. He came with a long, drawn-out moan, that honestly, if you had been able to focus on, just might have made you come a second time with how lovely it sounded.
Yunho removed all of his appendages from you quietly while you slowly but surely came back to earth. “Yu-yunho,” You gasped.
Yunho smiled brightly. “Good, right?”
You frowned when you saw a clear fluid on your thighs. “Did I?”
“You gave me the greatest honor. I made you squirt. It was glorious,” Yunho said with a boyish grin.
You pulled your straps up over your shoulders and summoned your robe with a flick of your wrist. It made it as far as the door before collapsing. Had Yunho fed from you so deeply that he had drained your magic reservoirs as well?
“You’re my new favorite snack, sweetheart, that’s for sure,” Yunho winked at you. And with a poof of sparkly smoke, he was gone. Well, he knew where you lived. You were sure he’d be back for more.

‘You’ve got another thing coming if you think you're getting out of this, Y/n!’
The front door slammed against the wall as Tendo swung it open.
‘Not answering my texts or calls, leaving me high and dry, do we really need me to miss you any more than I already do?’
If he had his way he would kidnap you from your law firm and make you a partner in his factory. The job would come with part ownership, unlimited potential and… perks.
‘Y/n?’ His smile wide and a spring in his step, he yelled out again as he gave the open plan apartment a once over.
He had been patient about your reluctance to get back into running for far too long.
You were making great progress up until the recent flu season, and you were out for two weeks with a bad cold. Any athlete knew a two week break was as good as pushing the restart button.
Tendo also knew you were eager to get back in the gym full time. But the heavy chest and cough that the flu had left behind needed to clear out first. Since then your evenings consisted of walks, and light jogging.
The desired effect was met, but you wouldn’t budge about running; having always hated that form of cardio.
Before the flu you'd had a steady pace that you didn't waver on out of pure discipline, but getting you back to it had been a pain in the ass.
For days he’d been pushing the subject, until you finally ran out of excuses and relented.
He was excited to leave the factory early and get his running shoes on. To him there was no comparison to that type of refocus. The air in his lungs, the feel of his rushing pulse and the urge to keep his legs going long after they had reached their limit.
It was good for clearing the head.
His smile dimmed down as the seconds ticked by without an answer.
The silence he was met with when he entered your apartment was out of character but not above being part of one of your grand schemes to escape cardio for the day.
You weren't in the kitchen or the lounge area. The TV was silent and the terrace door shut. The sliding door and at least some of the windows were always open when you were home.
It was an aesthetic thing. The fresh oxygen from your plants outside, the chilly wind from your highrise apartment, the open air somehow breathing new life into the atmosphere.
You had that in common, needing the sharp clarity. The slap on the wrist from nature to pause in your thoughts and appreciate the present time.
Your penchant for working hand in hand with the universe and going with the flow made more sense to him than you realized. He just had a more direct approach to things.
He was Tendo Satori. World renowned chocolatier and infamous Guess Monster of the volleyball court from his heyday in Shiratorizawa Academy. Bypassing the bullies, the weird looks and the rejection – he did what he wanted, when he wanted and didn't let any form of the word ‘no’ phase him. Returning to Tokyo had been the best decision he’d ever made too. It was the reason he’d found you.
He paused; his confusion palpable.
Glancing down at the compact shoe stand just inside the doorway, he noticed your day shoes were still present and your house shoes weren't. So you were definitely in here.
‘I will find you.’ He stated more softly as he kicked off his shoes and closed the door behind him. There was no doubt about it.
Making his way through the layout of your apartment that was now second nature, he noted that there was no brew of coffee in the air either. You usually have a cup every few hours.
The narrow hallway leading out of the lounge housed doorways to your bedroom, bathroom and study. He would bet his money on any of them.
But on further inspection of the study and bathroom, the doors were wide open - and unoccupied.
The slightly ajar door of your bedroom was a telltale sign, but every game of hide and seek needed a bit of time to play out. Where was the fun in winning early?
Pushing the door open, knocking being an unnecessary politeness at this stage, his smile was returned to him at the sight he was met with.
The only light in your bedroom peeked from between two closed curtains that covered a wall span of mid-level to ceiling high windows. The sundown rays barely reached the foot of the bed, leaving most of the room in evening shadow.
The double bed in the center of the room sat between a one seater against the wall, a tiny dresser for your nighttime essentials and your current read of the week.
He walked into the room, taking care to avoid the pillows that were thrown haphazardly to the floor. His presence blended into your personal bubble that had already grown accustomed to him.
There you were in the middle of the bed. Scattered across your pillow was your hair, your eyes closed and your breaths uneven as your body curled up in a fetal position around a particularly large pillow.
On instinct his eyes scanned the MSBY Black Jackals team calendar stuck on the side of your bedroom cupboard. The 17th of July. He sighed softly. It was that time.
His change of plans were immediate. No longer was running and a healthy meal on the agenda. It was time for comfort and calories.
Softly stepping around the pillows, he had spied your phone upon entering and turned it over to see a number of unread messages both from him and a few friends. But nothing seemed too urgent, no one more important.
As far as he knew, you definitely attended work, so you either started cramping later in the day or probably stuck it out until you got home.
The battery percentage was 42% so he plugged your phone to charge and kept it on silent taking care to turn it over again for when the screen lit up with notifications.
Leaving the room, he made quick work of ordering food instead of opting to make it himself because he was not sure of how long you hadn't eaten and he would rather keep his focus on you.
He squinted at his phone, caught between spicy ramen or spicy chicken or spicy tuna. You liked all three and all were comfort food and he knew of two different establishments that would be happy to add on. A lightbulb went off in his brain and he pulled up a frequent contact.
‘Onigiri Miya, how can I help you?’
‘Ushiwaka!’ Tendo whisper yelled. ‘Can I get an urgent delivery?’
‘Uh… sure, please state your order, name and address, Sir?’
Tendo’s left eye twitched. ‘Wakatoshi.’ He replied slowly. Mildly offended that his best friend did not recognize his voice.
‘... Yes, that is my name, please state yours and what I can get for you?’
Tendo slapped his forehead. ‘It’s Satori!’
On instinct he looked toward the door of the bedroom, hoping he didn’t wake you up.
‘Tendo.’ Wakatoshi Ushijima stated over the phone line, Tendo understood it was partly a greeting.
He sighed loudly, squeezing his eyes to shut out the need to fight with Ushiwaka over the phone. ‘Would you be able to schedule a delivery for two platters in the next 20-30 minutes?’ He knew you would want options and sushi would be the most filling and binding enough to tide you over till tomorrow.
‘Yes. We can squeeze in a drop off for that time. Should I tell the kitchen the spicy tuna rolls are for y/n?’
Tendo scoffed. Y/n he remembered easily. He whistled out a breath. ‘Yes, please tell Samu it’s for y/n, Wakatoshi.’ Y/n was known for haggling Osamu for spicy tuna and any new spicy recipes and he would know how best to make her order.
‘Payment on delivery?’ Tendo offered after a few seconds of soft clicking and silence.
‘That would be perfect. Enjoy your evening Tendo.’
‘I’ll visit you at the shop soon.’ It was a mild threat.
‘Okay.’
The dial tone lasted a second before he clicked off.
Tendo’s eye twitched again as he continued looking at his cellphone, resisting the urge to throw it. Always so calm, collected and unphased was Wakatoshi Ushijima.
He whistled another breath, before dropping his phone on the kitchen counter and moving on to the rest of his tasks.
He put coffee to brew, noted that there was chocolate in the fridge and peeked into the bedroom one more time before he tore his shirt off to shower.
As he pulled his red hair back, a bulk of it in one of your hair ties, so it didn’t get too wet, he caught a glimpse of the outline of a curled up fox on his left rib cage. Long-tail curled around the small form of a female fox, sleeping soundly – his Y/n was just as simple, just as vibrant, just as feline, just as secure in his presence. The matching black fox with a slightly shorter tail sitting up with his ears perked would easily be found on your right shoulder blade.
The match was easily deduced, your connection unyielding, the loyalty unending. He would always have your back… you would always be close to his heart.
Love was very different with you. Somehow it didn't require too much effort to keep up. Were you stubborn, a bit controlling, easily swayed by emotions and headstrong about your opinions, sure. But you were adaptable. You heard him out, kept up with his antics and newly found hobbies and supported his idea to open his own chocolate factory too. A risky idea akin to becoming Willy Wonka and building a castle in the sky, but you supported him anyway.
The world was too big to be realistic but too small not to have firm foundations for any big dreams. And the middle is where you made yourself comfortable. You taught him it could be comfortable.
Conversation was easy. Fighting was hard. Like when you were offered a job at a new branch in a different region — a promotion to run it, and you refused because your heart was with him. He would have moved too, but by then he'd invested in his factory and he didn't like holding you back. Ultimately it was your decision.
Choosing you on your hard days, cooking dinner, letting you vent, providing input or just being there seemed to be everything for you.
Those nights, when tears leaked from the edge of your vision and you weren't strong enough to carry it all, you let it free. He found you then, his tongue lapping at the tears, his long fingers firm on your thighs, his teeth teasing, coaxing, driving you over while he held all your shattered pieces together.
Some days were harder than others. Like when machinery broke at the factory or someone put in the wrong quantity of ingredients ruining an urgent batch or even dispatching too much stock. A start-up that he needed to keep up with, he did his best, but some days his best just didn’t cut it.
Those days you let him swipe at you, let him taunt the reality of what was, his honesty a bit cutting, and unnecessary. But you curled into his side, never allowing him to push you too far away and when he worked his way out of his head, he would hold you as close as possible.
Making love to you on those nights were primal, edgy, kinky, nothing off the table, very few hard limits. And a combination of colors, your only lifeline to stay sane.
He was loud and rowdy. You were quiet and observant. But you could keep him in check and he could hear you in the silence.
Maybe days like these where you were overly sensitive and could cry at the drop of a hat were supposed to be harder. He didn't think so.
In honesty, he saw your monthly cycle from a mile away. Your boobs were sensitive, you looked a bit plush and rounded, your appetite seesawed between not hungry and ravenous and you were extremely restless and horny.
He knew you enough to notice the signs. And he would never tell you this, because you would hate it, but he loved when you were like this.
He didn’t mind the blood. The messy sheets and underwear. Making a last minute run for pads or tampons. And definitely didn’t mind a bit of blood on his cock when you asked him to make you feel a bit better.
When you were this vulnerable and sensitive and overwhelmed he was ready to grab a hold of you with both arms and keep you close. Feed you food. Share showers with you. Just overall dote on you and revel in the right to do every bit of it.
Plus, you already knew he had a thing for dacryphilia. It played a big role when orgasms helped with the cramps. First three days were either the best or the worst. He preferred the former over the latter.
It was not that you didn't let him take the lead on most decisions or consider him in every scenario, but some masculine pride had to be felt at the fact that in these moments, for these few days, you followed him blindly and without question.
Deep in his thoughts he didn't even notice he was on autopilot until he answered the door. He'd already had fresh clothes on, his hair slightly damp and skin flushed from a hot shower. A gray sweatpants he used when he stayed over and an old, frayed at the edges, purple shirt he had bought in Paris, easy material that you wouldn't find too abrasive against your skin.
Once done paying up and thanking the delivery guy, Tendo placed the food on the counter but didn't unpack anything yet.
He would usually take time to tease the person doing the delivery. Something easygoing, like receiving the order with his head upside down, or rising to his full height to be unnerving. If he was in a good mood he might make easy friends with them, provide unsolicited advice to the college goers or tell a mild secret about the volleyball professionals that would make Onigiri Miya an interesting hotspot for a few days. Then he would wait for a phone call where Y/n’s favorite Miya twin would sigh heavily, the simple action taking a lot of effort from the very composed male.
By now it was dark, the sun set at least half an hour ago, and the dull street light hue shone through the lounge. He drew those curtains, making sure no light peeked through. He knew your eyes tended to be sensitive to light and too much exposure would give you a headache, which would only cause you to be even more miserable.
Ticking the boxes in his head, as he switched on and dimmed the lights of the apartment, he unplugged the heating pad and made his last stop to the bedroom.
You had turned over to face the doorway and were a little awake, probably having heard all his shuffling.
He leaned against the door jam.
‘Hi.’ You said softly. A small strained smile on your face. He didn't like when you were in pain, but he masked the twinge of irritation he felt curl around him. Focusing rather on your voice and how you were feeling.
He knew how bad the cramps could get. And he didn't like how he could never fix it. Not yet anyway. A nine month break was a plan for the future.
He swallowed hard, doing his best to stop himself from imagining you with a round belly, a glow to your skin, his baby inside of you… the surge of protectiveness almost making him snarl. Dammit, it was not time to get you pregnant.
Instead he tilted his head to the side. ‘That bad, huh.’
Tears welled in your eyes at his words. He knew it was an involuntary reaction. You were frustrated, had every right to be too. But the irritation he originally thought he could handle could be felt in his taut cheeks.
‘Just a few days.’ You reminded him. A tiny attempt to make the inscrutable expression on his face soften.
‘Can I move you?’ He asked before he could help himself. He needed to be close. He needed you close.
You barely had time to finish a head nod before he made his way over and climbed gently onto the bed.
You expected him to curl up behind you and spoon. But he sat up against the headboard and as gently as possible brought your back to lean against his front.
The slight jostling had you moaning in discomfort. Your clothes were too abrasive. And you were both hot and cold. But the cramps in your belly were the worst. The type of pain that can't be pinpointed or fixed — just felt. It made you hypersensitive to almost everything.
‘Shhh,’ he soothed, his lips finding the top of your head. His kiss was a tender reassurance, making you feel completely together despite unraveling your senses even more.
You tensed slightly when his arms came around you and he placed the heat pack on your belly.
‘Mmmmh,’ you whined in slight relief as the heat seeped through your clothes. You gave yourself a minute before sighing and leaving your entire body weight to sag on your boyfriend.
You felt his smirk. ‘Better?’
Letting yourself lean against his shoulder, you hid your face in the crook of his neck and let the world disappear. ‘What would I do without you Satori?’
‘Exactly what you were just now.’ He replied easily, his fingers crawling up under your shirt and applying light pressure at your sides. ‘And somehow you would find the strength to take care of yourself.’ You groaned at the slight pressure, the pain from the cramps slowly becoming manageable. ‘Eventually.’ He added after a moment.
‘But,’ he stopped and one hand slid up your body to tilt your chin up. ‘I'm here to make it a bit better.’
He pecked you on the lips and let you relax again.
‘Reconsider,’ you teased. ‘This is almost every month for the rest of your life.’
‘I don't scare easily, baby.’ His answer was instinctive. ‘I'm the monster in the dark, remember.’
Awkward position aside, you tilted your head up again to peck his chin. A small reminder that you had accepted every single part of him a long time ago.
You both sat in silence, in the dark. Feeling each other's heartbeat align. His arms around you, strong and secure, his cheek pressed up against your forehead — like no other moment in the world could be more perfect.
‘There's food,’ he whispered after a few minutes, ‘coffee and chocolate. And a very famous chocolatier at your every beck and call.’
‘Spicy food?’ Appetite mood swings aside, your mouth watered at the option.
‘Osamu’s best.’
‘Belgian coffee?’ Only the best that he would bulk order for you.
He hummed.
You smiled to yourself this time. You had no choice but to count yourself lucky. ‘I might just be in love with you.’
‘Yeah? How can you be so sure?’ It was a very Tendo question. Where he knew, as you had both confessed months ago, but he would like an elaboration anyway.
‘Because… ‘
It may be more than a few months since you’d started dating, but how could you explain it without sounding insane? How could you say that you needed to hide yourself in the crook of his neck. That you needed his arms around you and his fingers intertwined with yours. How could you explain that his work cologne was strong but his clean Satori skin felt like home. That his body curled around yours and his lean legs that held firm on the outside of your thighs were a cocoon of safety. That Tendo Satori’s wit and humor and smile and song were a force to be reckoned with and your whole heart only ever craved more of him.
‘I want to turn you around so I can watch the emotions race across your features, but I'm trying to take care of you.’ His long index finger traced his name on the top of your thigh. The sensation tickled, and had you shivering in anticipation.
‘I'm thinking.’ You answered through clouded thoughts.
His chest shook with laughter. ‘Questioning if you love me? You do.’ The only reason you knew not to get offended was because he wasn't laughing at you — he'd never do that to you. His laughter was a Satori-trait. It didn’t always signify humor, rather a clear sign of his confidence, sometimes an acknowledgement, on the odd day… a dare.
‘I'm thinking about how I know I never want to lose you.’ You answered softly. ‘That I always want you with me when it gets tough, and I want to tell you first when things go right, and have you cheer for me in the same way you sing your song.’
‘What about how much you love me?’ He pressed on.
It was not love. It went deeper than that. He knew it too.
On surface level may seem simple, but Tendo Satori lived his whole life making peace with the fact that he chose not to flee and not to fight, he chose to just ‘be’ – he was a monster of a different kind. What did that make you, that you tasted his heartache on his lips and chose him anyway.
This time he did turn you around. His patience running thin when you didn’t answer.
He lifted you up easily, his lean body and muscle strength, aging like fine wine and strategically maneuvered your body so you straddled his lap, the heat pad stuck securely between your bodies and your arms finding purchase on his neck.
You winced slightly at the new position, but you also felt better being face to face. A serious conversation popping up in a very not ideal situation.
His big round eyes shined with mirth and… some other unnameable emotion. Something darker. A promise. And the vow to do absolutely anything to keep it.
He touched his nose to yours as you held eye contact. ‘You're never getting rid of me, you know.’ He pulled back and a slow smile grew on his face. ‘You have to love me.’ He blinked. ‘You have to love me alot.’
His tone mocking you playfully, purposely provoking, stirred up a need to lean in further and bite. ‘In fact, you have to marry me too.’
Your eyebrows shot up, not missing a beat before awarding him a response. ‘Are you proposing?’
‘I can if you want me to.’ He was nonchalant, his gaze now hooded. A sense of all-knowing overcoming his energy. Like you should consider it done if that's what you really wanted, but it would be a mere formality. ‘I can do the flowers in a heart on the floor.’ He brought one of your arms forward from around his neck. ‘I can do candles and fairy lights.’ He placed a tender kiss on the inside of your elbow. ‘I can get down on one knee.’ He snorted. ‘Or both.’ Then his fingers curled between your own and he met your eyes. His own, a quiet smolder of heat and resolution. ‘I can tell you how much I love you too, y/n.’
‘I didn't s—,’
‘You don't have to.’
His other hand snaked around the back of your neck and pulled you further into him. His face, a hair's breadth away from yours. ‘I can promise you forever.’ He whispered against your lips. ‘And a life together. And to stand with you until the very end.’
‘But most of all,’ he placed a tender kiss below your eye, removing the wetness you didn't seem to notice until now. ‘I'll remind you that I can't unlove you. That this scarred heart, this weird complex man, labeled for as long as he can remember, found a world within having you that he never wants to leave.’
You couldn't speak, your throat clogged with emotions too intense to unravel, a cloying need to cry and make sense of what you just heard, but you could only feel. ‘How ‘m I supposed to top that?’
His lips formed a triangle shape, mouth open and his teeth showing off a burst of happiness. ‘You say, yes.’
The single word was cataclysmic. It cascaded through you, all the many reasons you could never not choose him. His sharp wit, his daring nature, his competitive spirit and perspective on life. His weird hair and resilience to stand up after being pushed down, a force of nature in his love.
‘Say yes.’ You repeated back to yourself. There was never any question.
‘Say yes.’ He decreed. His focus entirely on your lips, the heat of his words waiting to fold into yours.
He waited. He didn’t prompt, tease or provoke… he just waited. And for a man that would do anything to get what he wants, that simple action was your undoing. ‘Yes, it is then.’
He captured his lips with your own and immediately the world spun on its axis.
Kissing Tendo Satori was like crossing a line you may never find your way back to. There were no sparks or fireworks in the background, just a deep need. It had the potential to be sickly sweet or bitter and dark, a chocolaty thickness that melted to an unhealthy point of no return. He was an addiction, his smile a borderline threat and demanding lips, a reminder that you no longer belonged to yourself.
‘Guess I have a label now too.’ You sighed softly when you came up for air.
His forehead touched yours, eyes closed, breathing hard. ‘What's that?’
You covered his heartbeat with your hand, making a silent promise of your own. ‘The girl that fell in love with a monster.’

I cant think of anything else, so lets just take a moment to scream :) ♡
SOHEE ☆
Aquarium date!!
Takes picture of you and the turtles but say how you look cuter
Also the type to start small pda; holding hands while looking at the animals (the way i cant just picture the grin on his face, the way he'd look down at you, the way his eyes would shrink and how shy he'd get. I'm jumping off a cliff)
Buys you matching plushies and keychains, taking pictures of it to post on Instagram later
And maybe even a kiss when hes walking you home, saying how fun the day was. And if thats moving too fast then you're eating food while watching the penguins. The choice is yours :) ♡
ANTON ☆
Picnic by the lake!!
He was a little nervous about the whole thing, second guessing himself but when you start talking to him, he forgets all of his thoughts.
Is just feeling so calm and relaxed, laughing at whatever you say with a grin
When you're talking, he would randomly look into your eyes, before getting shy and looking away
Groans when you tell him how cute hes being, telling you to shut up with that soft voice of his ♡
BONUS ☆
All of them would defo smile to themselves after the date was over
Would text you "next week, 7 pm?"
And just so happy and giddy, falling alseep with a smile on their faces ♡

Spooky Book of the Week: Global Examination
Author: Mu Su Li (木苏里)
Genre: unlimited flow, horror, modern-day, danmei
Rating: T for test you wished you'd studied for
My Synopsis: Two of the greatest minds in the world use their combined intelligence to fuck over a test in every way they can possibly think of, and no matter how many times they're split apart like a pair of troublemakers put in (life-threatening) time-out, they always find their way back to each other.
My Review: All the other unlimited flow novels I've read so far have been about protagonists coming together to solve the puzzle of each world in order to eventually make it out of what's essentially a haunted house of horrors. This is the first one I've read where the protagonists are insistent in not only not wanting to leave as their end goal but also in just completely fucking up every single level they make it to. It's actually pretty amazing. I love each of the characters, their interactions, how the cast is so large but is able to utilize every character uniquely, and the romance is beautiful. I have some minor trigger warnings for gore and body horror, and a content warning for there being a whole arc (the Language test) that's based around Romani stereotypes. I read the fan translation which uses the ethnic slur, but I'm not sure how the licensed translator will handle that. Either way, the whole arc is kinda bad because of the stereotypes, whether that word is changed or not, so be aware of that going in. On a similar vein, would love to know what the fascination with fake European settings is about in unlimited flow novels, but I probably won't like the answer.
Translation: fan translation complete (still floating around somewhere), licensed translation on pre-order

So I did a thing, in case anyone’s interested:
Fandoms: DCU, Young Justice (Cartoon), Justice League & Justice League Unlimited (Cartoon), Justice League - All Media Types, DC Animated Universe (Timmverse)
Relationships: Dick Grayson/Wally West, Bruce Wayne & Wally West, Justice League & Wally West, Dick Grayson & Members of the Team (Young Justice)
Summary:
Return Stroke: In lightning strikes — the moment in which current flows after connection between the step leader and upward streamer; the most luminous and noticeable part of the overall lightning discharge, called the “flash”.
——
Here was the thing: no one, then or since, had ever heard of the Flash.
No one.
Not once.
Wally had needed to sit with that revelation for a while. In the locked library bathroom, counting out his breaths.
But this was fine. He could deal. Parallel universe. Sure. Why not?
It wasn’t any more theoretical than time travel had been a year ago.
Sure, it theoretically took, uh, several orders of magnitude more energy to accomplish, but it wasn’t impossible.
He was totally whelmed.
——
No one in Young Justice has ever heard of the Speedforce. No one on Earth-12 has ever heard of the Flash. Super-speed isn’t always an easy power to handle. None of these facts are conducive to Wally’s return home.
Or: Wally’s stranded, Dick’s haunted, the JL are confused, and superpowers have a tendency to drive physicists insane. Oh, and Wally West is a founding member of the Justice League now. Whoops?
Truly could not have called that the first DC fic I’d ever post would be for the cartoons. But this AU grabbed my brain and would not let go, and now it’s looking like a whole thing.
Also it’s Birdflash. Because I’m about to put them through a whole lotta angst and I just couldn’t help but want them to kiss about it… eventually.
Young Justice Wally West is Alive is a whole genre, and there are so many interesting ways to play with the characters and their dynamics if you toss him into the 2003 Justice League Universe. So, I am playing with it. Feat. gratuitous science talk, the formative power of family bonds and childhood friendships, identity shenanigans, and a whole metric heck ton of dramatic irony because that is my jam.
Prologue’s up, more to come.

Recently Read Danmei
I was gonna make separate novel intros for each of the titles on this list, but since I’ve dropped them all then it’s no longer worth that effort.
In alphabetical order:
Don’t Ask (别问)
Fake Love (假情)
Raising my Fulang in a New Life (重生养夫郎)
Reborn Medical Soldier (重生卫生兵)
details under the cut!
Don’t Ask (别问)
Author: 榆鱼 (Yuyu)
Summary: Real world is infested with “zombies,” which are people who can only answer with yes or no. These zombies once tried to invade the home of the protagonist Lin Jia in order to eat his pet cat, Tusi. But Tusi turns out to be no ordinary cat. Seeing Lin Jia being all too willing to throw him out to the zombies, Tusi pulled Lin Jia into the Fish Belly (the unli flow).
Review:
The exposition was different from most in the unli flow genre, so I thought it was gonna be good. However, the first instance was such a drag. But since unli flow first arcs are often terrible, I thought I’d stick with it for a while coz maybe it’d get better.
And plot-wise, it did get better! We learn more about Tusi and his motivations, and we now have a clear overarching plot to follow. The reveal on who the male lead actually is was also a welcome twist in the genre. But alas, despite the good ideas, the novel suffers from bad writing.
Almost every scene was full of info dumps, as if the author thought the readers are idiots who needs every little detail spoon-fed to them just to understand the story. The instances themselves are also boring.
Fake Love (假情)
Author: 邊棠 (Bian Tang)
Summary: Just another dog blood novel where the infatuated protagonist shou breaks away from the sugar daddy gong.
Review: Nothing special about it, so I dropped it.
Raising my Fulang in a New Life (重生养夫郎)
Author: 岛里天下 (Dao Li Tianxia)
Summary: Gong is reborn and decides to meet his fulang/wife earlier in his new life so he can save him from the clutches of the evil stepmother.
Review: This is actually an okay rebirth, sweet pampering, slow romance novel. I just got bored after MC and ML finally got together because there was nothing else to look forward to.
Reborn Medical Soldier (重生卫生兵)
Author: Mo Xiyue (陌夕月)
Summary: It’s about a reborn medical soldier set in the late 1900s
Review: Terrible pacing, so much so that the author had to keep addressing complaints about it lol. The first 20+ chapters had nothing to do with the military. It’s just farming life with the protagonist. If it was only a few chapters, then whatever, but over 20 long chapters??? Bruh, if I wanted to read a farming novel, I’d pick up a farming novel. The title and summary promised me a military story.
Perhaps to calm down the raging readers, the author had to include extras in the author’s notes featuring the main couple already in a relationship, long before the male lead even appeared. Not even mini theaters, but whole scenes that might as well be in its own chapter. Damn.
Even when the military life finally started, the pacing was still terrible. There was no saving it.

Essential Elements of an Unlimited/Infinite Flow Story
As someone attempting to write my own Unli Flow, I thought I’d take note of the different elements so I can have a guide I can always refer back to.
I’ve explained what Unli Flow means many times before, but in case you missed it: Unlimited/Infinite Flow is a genre in Chinese web novels that feature characters entering multiple “instances” where they have to complete a challenge and/or solve a mystery. Failure in doing so would lead to consequences, most often death.
There’s also this definition by AshuraYami from the NovelUpdates Forum:
Unlimited Flow/Infinite Flow is a genre originating from the CN novel Terror Infinity. The genre mainly revolves on world hopping involving fictional works (anime, comics, movies, games and novels) and/or original worlds created by the author. Infinite Flow, as it’s ‘infinite’ namesake suggests, can accommodate all other genres, be it fantasy, sci-fi, horror, romance, etc. Representative works are Terror Infinity (origin of genre), Reincarnation Paradise (most chapters and word count), The Ultimate Evolution (promoter of data flow, an infinite flow derivative that is more game-like litRPG) and Thriller Paradise (most famous horror infinite flow).
With the definition out of the way, let’s goooo
[This post will also serve as a rec list of sorts, since I’ll be giving examples of each element from different danmei novels.]
----------
1. The Authority
The entity/system in charge of the Unlimited Flow system as a whole. Most stories just chalk it up to the Unli Flow being some kind of otherworldly being/extremely advanced AI that just likes to mess with people.
Examples of The Authority
(based on what I remember, at least… Also, beware of spoilers)
The Earth is Online: The Universe
Mist: I forgot what it’s called, but that high tech system in charge of all the Time Traveling stuff...
High Energy QR Code: That black and white cube thing
Surprise! The Supposed Talent Show was Actually—?!: … The TV station...
From left to right: Tang Mo from The Earth is Online and Wu Jin and Wei Shi from Surprise! The Supposed Talent Show was Actually—?!
[Spoilers End]
From having read numerous Unli Flow stories, I conclude that crucial to a great, not just good, Unli Flow story is a well-defined Authority. The explanation behind the Authority’s existence and motives is the foundation to the entire story.
You can have a very fancy building (cool instances, well-developed characters, an exciting enemies to lovers couple, etc.), but if the foundation is flimsy, the building’s value would plummet in your eyes. You can still appreciate the building, of course, but you will never be content with it.
Examples of some novels that are good in almost everything else except The Authority (in my opinion): [spoilery]
Supernatural Movie Actor App: It was too profound with not enough groundwork laid for it, resulting in The Authority feeling detached from the main story.
I Upended Yet Another Campus Urban Legend: The Authority was not exactly bad; it was just inadequate. The justification of the Unli Flow existing became unconvincing because of this.
Escape the Infinite Chamber: THE AUTHORITY IS SO FUCKING RIDICULOUS THAT IT’S ABYSMAL. And the entire thing was explained in just one scene and from one extra??? SO MUCH PAIN AND SUFFERING AND THAT’S THE ONLY EXPLANATION WE GET??? HORRENDOUS!
[Spoilers End]

2. Instances
Also known as “copy.” The other world/dimension where players have to face the different challenges.
The Authority may be the foundation, but the Instances are the defining aspect of the Unlimited Flow.
A lot of novels, however, are quite perfunctory when it comes to instances, just using it to further the main couple or as a mere stepping stone to the overarching plot. Or, if they’re not being perfunctory, then the Instances are just plain boring.
The first instance, especially, tend to be the most boring. Authors often use this to dump all the information about how their unli flow works. This usually gets better by the time the 2nd or 3rd instance comes around....
Upon successful completion of an Instance, players will then be rewarded with either points, special abilities, magic items, etc.
Examples of novels with GREAT instances (based on logic, thrill, horror, etc. Again, all in my own opinion):
I Became a God in a Horror Game: The horror is present all throughout. I can still remember the fear I felt while reading about the statues in the first Instance. Each instance/arc also emotionally impacts you, an effect that most Unli Flow writers don’t really aim for or just generally tend to fail at. (This is also my favorite unli flow novel at the moment~)
The Earth is Online: (same author as Fourth Perspective, which I’ve posted a lot about before) What I love about Mo Chen Huan, the author, is how they write intelligent MC’s but without making them seem too OP. And this is because she actually shows us the MC’s thought process, inviting us to think along with them and figure out how to solve the challenge, and not just make her characters say “aha!” This is what makes the Instances in TEIO great and memorable.
High Energy QR Code: The story could make use of more showing than telling, but I actually love the Instances in this novel. You know how good stories are often described as a well-made tapestry in that every little thread contributes to the big beautiful picture? That’s how each Instance reads in this novel. (Absolutely love the Instance about the town where everybody lies.)
Fu Wendou, the male lead of The Earth is Online
3. NPCs
A gaming term which stands for “Non-Player Character.” Refers to characters who live within Instances and act in such ways that further the plot or challenge presented by the Instance. They may go against players or assist them. May or may not have a will of their own.
Examples of NPCs:
Xu Beijin, the protagonist of Being an Extra Actor in an Escape Game
Lu Chu, the protagonist of Insider.
The iconic Mosaic from The Earth is Online
The male leads from Escape the Infinite Chamber, I Became a God in a Horror Game, Killing God with Junk Cards, etc. (Most danmei ML are special!NPCs 😩)
From left to right: Book covers of Being an Extra Actor in an Escape Game and Killing God with Junk Cards
4. Player Hall
A space outside of instances where different players can gather and exchange information. Most of the time, this is in a space still separate from the real world. Players are often prohibited from using their powers in this space.
In some novels, Players have no choice but to live here, completely cutting them off from the real world. In this case, accommodation quality will depend on the Player’s level or points.
5. Personal System
The Personal System issues challenges to the player and keeps track of their current attributes, physical and mental states, etc.. It also calculates rewards and punishments for the player. First and foremost in service to The Authority. (If they aren’t, then they’re most likely the Love Interest in disguise. If not, the Player had somehow swayed it to their side).
6. System Store
The points earned from the different Instances serve as the Players’ currency, and they can use it to buy things from the System Store. The Store may sell weapons, medicine, magical items, or even special abilities. Basically, any item that can help the Player during Instances. Of course, it may also sell non-magical items, like food and everyday items, at a much lower price than special items.
7. Player’s Goal/Wish
In some novels, the Goal is simply to clear all the Instances and leave the Unli Flow for good. But in others, the Unli Flow allows Players to exchange their points for a Wish. The more difficult the Wish, the more points are needed, and the more Instances are needed to be cleared.
Examples of a Goal/Wish:
Supernatural Movie Actor App: Xie Chi wants to give his second personality a body of his own.
I Became a God in a Horror Game: If I’m remembering it correctly… Bai Liu just wants to have lots of money.
I Upended Yet Another Campus Urban Legend: Lin Yi wants to learn the truth about his parents.
Thriller Tour Group: Wei Xun wants to find the truth about his family’s disappearance… and his Wish is to uhh… feel pain?
After the Little Crybaby Enters the Nightmare Cycle: Chi Nan’s Wish is to regain his vision, stop crying and get his memories back.
Death Spiral: To uhh… figure out what the voice in the Elevator is trying to tell them? To regain their memories? [The actual Wish is a big spoiler, so I won’t mention it here.]
From left to right: Book covers of After the Little Crybaby Enters the Nightmare Cycle, Thriller Tour Group, and Death Spiral
Aaaand there you have it! I was hoping to list 10 elements, but I can only think up to 7 😔
Although I said this post is a rec list of sorts, the quality of the novels I mentioned actually varies. I’m just listing whatever novel would be good as an example (and also what I can remember and have more or less completed, since many of the Unli Flow novels I’m reading are currently on-hold).

Hi wow okay I just needed to pause my reading and come over here and tell you that your recent additions to the multiverse thread????? Insane. Love it. It’s amazing. I really had to pause at some points and just sit there like wow. Wow this is art. I am reading and enjoying art right now. Thank you for sharing your writing with us!!
This Ask is regarding this 🔞 butchlander multiverse threadfic on Twitter (the first of many perhaps?)
Thank you so much for reading, luv! I’m thrilled to hear you’re enjoying it. 💞✨
I am extremely fond of the Quick Transmigration genre as a whole in general, and it’s funny to me how complimentary it is to the superhero multiverse trope. It pops up and I’m flooded by so many brainworms at all the inconvenient times, haha, like while I’m at work or grocery shopping. So when I get hit by these The Name of the Game stray thoughts, especially about certain details and 🔞 butchlander scenarios of the arcs I have written down in my plot outline, I feel a lil dismayed because I am only one writer and we are only ch1 into the—so far—planned 135 chapters. 😂😭 So rather than waiting till it’s appropriate to write these lil extras and possibly forgetting or losing the creative drive I have now, while the fire still burns bright, I might as well take advantage of it while it’s going strong and feed y’all tiny diegetic bites here and there.
I like to think of these as fun sort-of-“canon”/ sort-of-“non-canon” What-If outtake scenarios that take place after or during the main story (135ch), kinda like the main story’s unofficial extras or unofficial side stories y’all can read as threadfics so it’s probably not an extra just dumped in randomly or willy-nilly in the main story itself on AO3 whilst this writer tries to shoot for the moon and catch up to our ambitious goalpost of 135chs.
So whilst this one is a weeeeee on the not-so-much-plot-but-smuttier side, because it’s Homelander’s birthday soon, I thought it’d be amusing to write a 🔞 spicy threadfic where TNotG’s Homelander ends up topped by almost all the Butchers I’ve ever written in my AUs thus far. Because why not? YOLO, and it’s convenient that this writer happens to have several long threadfics, Truce, and one AO3 fic that precisely allows for them to all crossover like some kinda butchlander superhero electric boogaloo multiverse on steroids.
So far I’ve only provided snapshot glimpses into the QT arcs that TNotG Billy had to endure, threaded into the threadfic itself, but I want you to know the entire time when I’m slipping in subtle story arc references to scenarios like this:
My mind is like:
Because these so far only exist in my plot outline, none of these are considered TNotG main story official unless I publish it on the AO3 platform. I’d just rather write these now than let them gather dust and potentially never see the light of day, haha. It’s only a snapshot but :) what fun surprises I have awaiting y’all. So far in these two threadfic updates we got sneak peeks into the The Boys TV S1-S5 canon-compliant final arc pre-return home, the Showbiz/ Entertainment 3rd arc, and the Medieval Fantasy 1st arc. There’s one more arc I have yet to input, which is the 2nd arc and it just so happens to be my second favorite genre after the QT genre: the Unlimited/ Infinite Flow genre survival game horror. I also may or may not reference the other two arcs remaining (with one of them being A/B/O), but these diegetic bites are supposed to compliment the spotlight that’s gonna be on each Butcher (Butchers 1-5 & TNotG Butcher). 😌 Because what’s better than 1 Butcher? A spicy 6 Butchers “bullying” (affectionate) Homelander sandwich.
#butchlander#billy butcher#homelander#the boys tv#the boys#billy butcher x homelander#it’s 5 Butchers + 1 TNotG Butcher = 6 Butchers + 1 HL = ‘lo we have coincidentally 7 members (y’know bc The Seven? nudge nudge wink wink)#I will probably write a 1 TNotG Butcher & 6 HLs but that’s for later (either in this threadfic or another one)#ask#ty for the ask!#stovetony#this was really sweet ☺️🥰 I was kicking my feet in the air like a schoolgirl#as a slowburn writer it’s funny to me whenever I write PWPs (I don’t think I’ve written any before acquiring the butchlander brainworms 🤣)#this pairing; man; see what it’s done to a slowburn romance writer#phoenix talks#I will ofc eventually bring this over for my tumblr readers but all in due time (I gotta get to the spicy scene first)#my twitter & tumblr accs were PG and SFW; and then in came this rareship coming swinging from the fences#I think it’s safe to say I’ve officially become a N/S/F/W acc#the boys amazon

What IS Orv? I keep seeing it and I'm intrigued
YEAH!!!!!!!
orv, short for Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint (think “POV reader omniscient”), is a Korean webnovel/webtoon (comic on the webtoon app)!
The basic premise: Kim Dokja is the only person to read a certain webnovel…which suddenly becomes reality.
It’s fundamentally a book about how a story can save your life.
I picked it up because of this article on the “unlimited flow” genre; it’s the sort of thing where people progress through increasingly-difficult scenarios imposed on them but Insert Force Here (yknow the kind. in squid game it’s capitalism), usually with the end goal of breaking down the Insert Force Here doing the imposing
ORV is pretty long and INCREDIBLY well-planned — the writing is such that I keep waking up in the morning going “AND THAT WAS ALSO FORESHADOWING!!!”
there is a currently serializing webtoon under the name “omniscient reader”, which is a pretty exact adaptation; i read through the existing webtoon and picked up the novel at the same place.
here is the epub: https://orv-epub.carrd.co

Hi! I'm also making my way through welcome to the nightmare live ❤️ Would yo talk a little more about it? Just your thoughts bc I value your opinion a lot and want to know what tou think. Wen Jianyan is in fact awesome ❤️❤️ and I'm glad you like him
i'm so glad there is someone else reading this novel!
honestly, i'm having a lot of fun with it. i actually like it so much i started MTLing after the translation (which is also excellent) stopped, and i don't do that with a lot of novels. but wen jianyan is such a good character, and honestly it's like he's specifically tailored for me, i just like him so much. i would've probably read this novel just for him even if the plot were not good, but no, it's genuinely interesting.
so, a couple of things that make this novel so fun for me personally:
the characters! all the characters are so good, not just wen jianyan, even though he's my favorite. every senior member of the guild has a distinct personality and i love their interactions so much. the teammates we meet in the instances are fleshed out. the enemies are not one-dimensional. honestly, the one character with the least amount of development was ML, but he's been getting more attention lately, so i'm being cautiously optimistic.
the plot is so well-written. i've read a lot of unlimited flow novels, and i really like the genre, but WTNL has some of the best instances i've seen. every one of them is logical, the audience gets all the same clues the characters do, and the solutions always make sense. i don't feel like wen jianyan is pulling answers out of his ass just to be seen as the most powerful, the smartest character in the game. he has to put in effort, and while he gets more info than other anchors based on his connections to wu zhu and the nightmare system, he's not the only one who gets the special advantage (the oracle, the top ten players, etc.).
i'm kind of genuinely amused by all the different ways wen jianyan has lied to or conned people so far? honestly, that's a real talent. i don't think he's ever used the same lie twice (unless pretending to be weak and pitiful counts?), and the way he talks his way out of some sticky situations is impressive. and my favorite thing about it is that the author had to come up with all of that! there is a real life human out there thinking about how to put wen jianyan into situations and then how he can talk himself into even more serious Situations. love that.
i'm being cautiously optimistic about the romance. honestly, i don't need good romance to like a book, but it would've been a shame for me to dislike such a big part of a book that i'm otherwise enjoying. and anyway, this is because the romance in the first couple of hundred chapters didn't really meet my personal preferences — which is completely alright, not everybody will like everything — but it seems to be heading in the direction i like, so i'm hoping this too will become part of the novel i will enjoy.
i think what i really appreciate is that wen jianyan is never really at disadvantage. a lot of cnovels love to make MC strong and great and powerful, until ML comes into the picture, and suddenly he's helpless under MLs power. and i thought this novel would be the same, but no! i've been conned! wen jianyan conned me, the same as he conned ML! his disadvantage is always temporary. when the chips are down, he's never the one at loss. he can bide his time and pretend to be cowed, but wen jianyan appreciates freedom more than anything else, and he would not relinquish it for anything.
small thing, but i'm just genuinely delighted by his custom-made froggy slippers. he paid someone to make him frog slippers, twice. i love him.
i tried to keep this spoiler free (except the frog slippers. i'm sorry if you still hadn't reached the frog slippers.) but i'm really enjoying it. i don't know how far i will be able to read with MTL, as i usually don't really have strong tolerance for it, but the novel is so good that i'm powering through.
i would also love to hear your thoughts!
#welcome to the nightmare live#wtnl#asks#i'm so sorry for the long answer but i've been devouring this novel for the past week and you just gave me an excuse to talk about it
