summary: you can’t sleep, and at 3:49 AM, a notification pulls you into a mysterious group chat called UnderChat. the members—quirky and chaotic sans au’s like ink, fresh, and error—welcome you as their newest recruit, insisting you’re from an alternate universe. confused but curious, you hesitate to believe them, wondering if you’ve stumbled into the strangest roleplay or something more.

3:49 AM

That was the time, obviously. You were not catching a wink of sleep tonight, even though those eyes of yours were pratically burning at this point. Blinking at the bright light which popped up when you clicked a notifaction. "DING!" echoed the phone on full volume: You were just about to scroll through tumblr aud—

Oh.

Oh. . 

You've been added to a groupchat.

Immediately sitting up you rubbed your eyes, curiousity gleaming in them.

UnderChat 

You don't remember downloading that app. . Perhaps you accidentally clicked on one of those explicit advertisements on accident while reading on pirated websites, that seems like a plausible explanation. Still doesn't explain why you're recieving notifactions saying your in a groupchat. A groan escaped your lips as you clicked the notifaction, although accepting the fact this was some sort of call-out cancel groupchat, an accidental add, or it's fake and it's a virus. Probably the latter.

Ink: Eheh, "how do you know my name" you might ask! wellllp, yknooow the multiverse and all that stuffs? We made a groupchat!

SLEEPRLUVR: what? 

Ink: Okay so a basic run down of how the app works, the three icon's at the side shows you every AU that has joined so far and what their username is - You need to create a profile with yours!

SLEEPRLUVR: what

Ink: Oh— You must still be confused, I'll just do it for you! What AU are you from?

SLEEPRLUVR: what.

Ink: ...

The chat suddenly went dead silent, leaving you staring groggily at your phone, squinting at the screen. You couldn't help but wonder what was going on. Does it really take this long to grab a character masterdoc? It's been a while since you last roleplayed, but this felt off. When the next message finally popped up, you couldn't help but roll your eyes.

Ink: Oh, uh... this isn't exactly roleplay, but I get why you'd think that! Anyway, we’ve got a lot of AUs here, so take your pick! Let’s see… there’s Underswap, Underfell, Dancetale, and even some wacky ones like Dusttale and Underlust, but let’s not go there unless you’re into, well, *that* kind of stuff. 

SLEEPRLUVR: ...i’m just going to ignore that last part.

Fell2cool4school: aww c’mon, why skip out on the fun? 😈

SLEEPRLUVR: This is ridiculous. Okay, so let's say I believe this whole “multiverse” thing. Why am I here?

Ink: Well, every AU needs a representative! Think of it like... a council! Each universe gets one member to join the chat, share ideas, keep peace, y’know? And... well, you’re the lucky one picked from your AU!

SLEEPRLUVR: but i don’t even know what AU i’m from. how am i supposed to “represent” it?

FunkN’Fresh: uhhh doesn’t seem too funkay to me, guess they jus got dropped here like a beeboppin’ newbie!

GlitchBitch: Figures. Another clueless one. Just what we needed.

Ink: Don’t mind them! We’ll figure out your AU together! It’s kinda exciting, right?

SLEEPRLUVR: mmm, more like nerve-wracking. can i leave?

Ink: Nope! Once you’re in, you’re in. But don’t worry, we’re all friends here! ...Sort of.

Fell2cool4school: speak for yourself, inkhead. i ain't here to make friends. only enemies. and sometimes frenemies. but mostly enemies.

SLEEPRLUVR: yyyeah, i’m definitely going to regret this. okay, so if I’m stuck here… how do I create this profile thing?

Ink: Just tell me a bit about yourself, and I’ll set it up for you! Favorite color? Likes? Dislikes? Any cool abilities? C’mon, spill!

SLEEPRLUVR: umm… favorite color? any, I guess. Likes? Sleeping. Dislikes? Waking up. Abilities? being normal???

GlitchBitch: Abilities: None. Fitting.

Ink: rainbow, sleeping, normal. Got it! I’ll just make your profile super quick…

FunkN’Fresh: "likez sleeping" heh. typical standard sans bruh.

Ink: Done! Welcome to the UnderChat, SLEEPRLUVR!

SLEEPRLUVR: …i’m going to need a lot of coffee for this, aren’t I?

FunkN’Fresh: forget coffee, maaaaan. get some soda in yer veins, get the funky fresh groove goin’!

GlitchBitch: Or you could just log off and get back to your irrelevant existence. Just saying.

SLEEPRLUVR: …i’m starting to think leaving this group would be the sanest option.

     You sat on your bed, legs crossed beneath you, staring at the screen with a mixture of bewilderment and curiosity. That was... ermmm, certainly an experience. These people seemed like some serious kinnies or something. You hadn't seen roleplayers this deep in character since the wild days of Danganronpa Kokichi Tumblr drama. You gnawed at the inside of your cheek, debating your next move. You had things to do in the morning, so maybe it would be smart to just get some sleep. But then again—shouldn’t you figure out which AU to be? They didn’t even give you a proper list of what was available!

     You could at least deduce a few things. Obviously, GlitchBitch was the Error Sans of the group, with his snarky, broken-text vibes. Ink was, well, Ink, and FunkN’Fresh was soo stereotypically hippie, it was a dead giveaway who he was supposed to be. But who else was in this group—this "UnderChat" as Ink called it? And how were you supposed to see these profiles they mentioned? The whole thing was making your head spin, trying to figure it out.

     Still, as you finally set your phone down and pulled your covers over you, you couldn't help but feel a small smile tugging at the corners of your lips. Yeah, it was weird—being added to some mysterious group chat by what seemed like over-enthusiastic roleplayers—but there was something almost... nostalgic about it. It had been a while since you just sat back and played pretend, no matter how weird the scenario... or old the fandom was.

     Maybe tomorrow you’d hit up the Undertale Wiki and find a cool AU to rp as. After all, if you were going to be stuck here, you might as well have some fun with it.

@justalittleguest GRAAAHHHH okay i have thoughts. love thinking about these guys from a more canon perspective actually. i think honestly. geno would only have a positive interaction with horror because like. doing Anything for papyrus. they could very much relate. i think given time they could probably even become friends but also horror trust issues. horror's paranoia. it would be ummmmmm a strained. friendship.

i also think nightmare just brings in other sanses to cause chaos and spread negativity among the crew every once in a while just cause it's funny. it benefits him too yeah but mostly it's funny. assigning them babysitting duty every 6 weeks.

HORROR: god no i fucking hate working for boss. but it keeps paps+snowdin fed and queen off my back.

Ironically, they are the ones i have more ideas to draw (a whole ass excel document my guy) and now that i'm also busy with personal life and comissions, i couldn't bring much food to the table T-T

The Rink

@hockeybuns wanted to see a mockumentary version of the locker room after Geno’s 1,200th point a la The Office—I had so much fun with this; I hope you like it!

“He’s just an elite player,” Sidney Crosby says about Evgeni Malkin’s recent 1,200-point milestone. Crosby is flushed, cheeks pink and lips red after the game. He sits in his stall in his base layer that has seen more NHL locker rooms than many players have; there is a tear in the sleeve that has been mended on more than one occasion. “He’s—it’s incredible that he’s able to still play at this level considering his age. He’s just as good as he was in our first few seasons together.”

Kris Letang, who did not play in the game due to illness, is standing near the doorway between the locker room and the showers. His arms are crossed; he is wearing one of his infamous custom-designed suits, and he gives a dead-eyed stare directly into the camera pointed at him while Crosby continues his effusive praise.

“I mean, 1,200 points, there are so many guys in the league who never get there. Geno is one of those guys whose name deserves to be on that list. It’s just a testament to his game and how he plays.” Crosby runs a hand through his sweat-soaked hair, licking his lips. His eyes fail to focus on any one spot in particular, darting from reporter to reporter. “I’m really glad we were able to get that win for him tonight.”

Kasperi Kapanen turns his phone to the camera. He swipes through a few photos, pointing out one in particular of Malkin playing poker in someone’s basement. “I take pictures when he hits milestones. This is when he won a poker game.” He swipes again; this one is of Malkin in a white shirt eating pasta, a forkful of spaghetti halfway to his mouth. “This is when he ate pasta without getting any sauce on his shirt.” The next picture is of the top of Malkin’s head, taken from above, on the team’s jet. “Obviously I couldn’t get one during the game, but I took this one on the plane earlier. Even though he was sitting down, I had to almost stand up on my seat to get the picture. I’m pretty proud of that one; not very many people get to see him at that angle.”

When it’s time for the helmet to pass hands, it’s delivered to P.O. Joseph out of thin air by the nonexistent entity that inhabits the net while Tristan Jarry is out with an injury. It’s Joseph’s first time with the helmet; he is smiling even when he puts it on. “Yeah, I’m really excited,” he says. “It’s a big honor, and these guys are so fun to play with. And of course Geno’s big milestone tonight—I’m just happy to have been part of it.”

Jason Zucker is a regular on Malkin’s second line. When asked for an interview, he sits down, wearing a paper mask of Malkin’s face with the mouth and eyes cut out. It is unclear where he got this mask, or who made it for him. “Geno best,” Zucker says simply, then immediately stands up and leaves the room. He is wearing the mask for the remainder of the night.

“I remember when Geno put on skates for the first time,” Letang says. His face is neutral; he looks into the camera with an easy disdain for it. “I felt an itch on the bottom of my left foot as a toddler. I knew then that he was gonna be the 101st best player in the league.” When asked how he knew this as a child, Letang answers in French, shrugging. He refuses to answer any other questions presented to him.

After Crosby finishes his lengthy and unprovoked interview regarding Malkin’s 1,200th point, he chats with Malkin in the corner briefly before they both head out to the hallway. Jake Guentzel enters the locker room from the showers just as they leave and, on realizing they’re heading out, follows them out of the room. Malkin and Crosby get several doors down the hall when Crosby shoves Malkin against the wall in one swift movement, reaching up on his toes to shove his tongue down Malkin’s throat. Malkin’s large hands fall to rest on the swell of Crosby’s ass; when Crosby pulls away panting, just for a moment, Malkin uses his grip to drag him back in again.

Guentzel stares at this scene, eyes huge and terrified, and as the camera pans to him, his face blanches and he swallows loudly.

Later, in the interview room, Guentzel stares into the camera for several moments, mouth agape. “I’m sorry,” he says after a few seconds. “I just—it’s like I just saw my parents having sex. Not that Dad’s my father—I mean, not that Dad’s my Sid—I mean—” Guentzel’s face turns the color of a tomato, and his eyes widen. “Not that Sid is my parent. Or that Geno is. It’s just.” A shudder takes over Guentzel’s body. “Sorry, I think I need another shower.”

Bryan Rust and P.O. Joseph glance at each other, then look into the camera. “We’d planned on doing a little party for Geno once we get to the hotel in L.A.,” Rust explains. “To celebrate and everything. But I don’t think that’s gonna be a good idea now.”

Joseph shakes his head. He’s still smiling, even if his eyes look like they have seen things they should not have seen. “Yeah, we, uh. I don’t think that’s gonna happen. Geno seems like he has other plans.”

When asked about his plans, Malkin smirks at the camera, tongue between his teeth. “I’m get best present tonight.”
