- Warning: None really. Gender-neutral reader.
- Characters: Malleus Draconia, Lilia Vanrouge, Silver, Sebek Zigvolt.
- Summary: You work a minimum wage job when a fae takes an interest after you jokingly asked him "will you adopt me?"
- Note: I planned for this to be a platonic yandere thing, but really it's only silly thoughts so I don't really plan to continue this unless y'all want. I don't even have a name for it.
Thinking about an AU where...
You were born a regular magicless person in Twisted Wonderland. Which was a travesty, but not too uncommon, as there were plenty of beings in this world that were incapable of magic. It was considered a privilege to be born with such capabilities. A privilege.
Which was likely why the world seemed catered specifically for magic users. Magic users were the cream of the crop, the best of the best. In the social hierarchy, magic users reined on top. That's just how things were. It wasn't discriminatory. It was merely the nature of society. If a company was looking to hire, of course they would inquire if potential employees could use magic. And of course, they were more likely to choose magic users to fill the positions. That explained why you could only find work as a minimum wage telemarketer, but it was better than nothing.
Random numbers generated and numerous attempts, scripted greetings you've said so much you could recite them in your sleep. As soon as you get an answer of "mmmyello?" a casual and exaggerated hello, you go off on the scripted greeting to advertise the product.
Shockingly, the person on the other end doesn't immediately hang up. They merely hum at your words, occasional shifting heard on the other end.
By the tone and voice, you've deduced that it's a rather relaxed guy. A conversation ensues, and although he doesn't sound all that interested in making a purchase, he doesn't get annoyed by your call. In fact, he continues to chat, seemingly amused by you and willing to share details such that he had a son and two others he fondly cared for.
The man, whom referred to himself as Lilia, mentioned he lived in Briar Valley. How odd, as it was common knowledge that the valley didn't have the best connection with technology due to their preference towards magic. He spoke of his well-mannered son and the other two boys he helped raise, one was a loud son of a dentist and the other was a quiet son of longtime family friends. By this time you were imagining an older gentleman with three young boys no older than ten.
He seemed to care so fondly for them that in the middle of the pleasant conversation, you couldn't help but jokingly ask, "Will you adopt me?"
The line was silent and you were mortified as you remembered this was supposed to be business talk, and your calls were likely being recorded. After what must've been shock, he began to laugh on the other end, and you immediately ended the call in your panic.
Why did you say that? You shouldn't have said that– Damn it, right when you were just gonna test the waters to see if he wanted the insurance package! Well, there went your big catch of the day. The rest of the evening was failed attempts, either deadlines or potential customers just hung up as soon as you spoke. Things were looking bleak.
Eventually, not even a week later, you received a letter. A letter, not an email, that was written much like how you expected the contents of a letter from the medieval ages to sound. Starting with: Salutations, Telemarketer–– and after several paragraphs, ending with ––That is why I am now interested in your deal! I will need your assistance, because I have not a single clue about how insurance works.
There was no number, and you couldn't recall the one you had reached him through, so there was no choice but to resort to the old fashioned way. Through letters. Although it would be a hassle and an interaction that would likely last for weeks just for one deal, a customer was a customer, and this would be your first one in so long. However, when you agreed to speak to him, you didn't actually expect him to show up at your doorstep. The voice you recognized, but he was not what you had in mind. He looked to be your age, short with magenta highlights in his black hair and wide red eyes accompanied by a fang-toothed smile. And pointed ears, the sign of fae. Of course he was a fae, that made total sense as to why he spoke as if he were older. He probably was older, much older than you previously thought.
Lilia wore a constant smile, listening but also not listening when you tried your best to explain what insurance was to a fae that had never once needed it.
"Do you get it now...?" You asked finally, after a lengthy explanation to which he barely asked any questions. All he did was nod up and down.
There was a brief pause. "Yesss..." That sounded uncertain, but he didn't appear to care too much as he noticed your bag with only the minimum in it like keys and a thin wallet. Along with the time. "Shouldn't you be on your lunch break now?"
"Yes, but... I don't eat lunch. I'm not hungry." A lie. You were hungry, but it wasn't easy to get lunch on a minimum wage salary alone. You'd eat something for dinner.
Lilia seemed to sense this, somehow detecting your lie. "Hm... Well, I like you. And I'm not about to let a child starve on my watch."
"A child...?" You stared at him incredulously. This fae was practically the same size as you, maybe even shorter. "I'm over––"
"Uh-huh, just nod and come along." He instructed, holding up a finger to gently shush you as he waved you along to follow beside him. "If your age only has two numbers in it, then in my eyes, you're like a toddler."
Lunch was surprisingly nice, as Lilia was quite eccentric but excellent at holding a conversation. He seemed wise and witty, making a great combination. However, you couldn't help but wonder what a fae from Briar Valley was doing here, as it was known that most faes preferred not to leave the valley.
"It's getting late, I do have to be going..." Lilia sighed, before turning to you and his smile softened. "Would you like to see my boys I told you about? It won't take long."
Did he live close by? That was the only plausible explanation you could think of, since Briar Valley was a whole continent away. It only made sense that he lived nearby if he were here now. Maybe he was one of the few fae that chose to leave the valley.
This was quickly disproven when he held your hand and told you to stay still, when it felt like you were hurled through space. A gust of wind slapping your face, your eyes momentarily seeing a kaleidoscope of colors, you felt sick when suddenly your surroundings were darker.
Dark brick walls like black, candles lighting the space, gray stone floors... definitely not the outside of the cafe you were just standing in front of moments ago. Teleporation magic...? He was a fae, and all faes had magic. You only had milliseconds to recover and swallow the rising bile in your throat, as Lilia pulled you into an open space like a courtyard where light filtered in. However, in this space there were training dummies and swords instead of flowers and butterflies.
"Come, come, meet my boys. The ones I've told you about!"
You immediately paled. When you heard boys, you were expecting young children no bigger than half your height. Instead you were met with three towering men with forbidding expressions.
Two of which were dressed in dark metallic armor and lowering sharpened weapons. The one on the left was a bit taller, with green hair and sharp eyes that pierced you like a blade. The one on the right was the shorter of the two, but that didn't make him any less intimidating with his gray hair and aurora eyes on an expression as cold as ice.
And the last, the last was recognizable anywhere. Black robes and majestic black horns like a crown with slitted green eyes that seemed to glow and peer into your very soul. That was the prince of the valley, a fae with unrivaled and frightening levels of magic.
"This is Sebek, Silver, and Malleus. They've so looked forward to meeting you ever since I told them about you after our pleasant telephone chat yesterday!"

SSR Lilia Vanrouge - General's Armor Voice Lines
General Lilia does not have a vignette
When Summoned: I am General Lilia Vanrouge of the Land of Briar. Whosoever may feel determined enough, come at me!
Summon Line: The Land of Briar is a place under the dominion of us creatures of the night. If you don't want to find yourself in a sticky situation, you better lay low, human.
Groooovy!!: Call me anything you wish. That is, anything other than "old man."
Home: Time to go to work.
Swap Looks: We're off, men.
Home Idle 1: I was an orphan and Maleficia-sama took me in under her care. She's so nice? Not one bit! If she snaps, she'll strike you down with her lightening.
Home Idle 2: I will protect the Land of Briar. That is my sworn duty. That was Raverne's... my late dearest friend's request of me.
Home Idle 3: Silver and Sebek's movements are strangely familiar. Who could possibly have been their instructor?
Home Idle - Login: I can't say I'm that interested in having the title of General, but... I would not be able to stand to work for someone weaker than myself. As I've taken on this role, I'll fulfill the duty that comes with it.
Home Idle - Groovy: It would be nice if the next successor to the throne would be more mild mannered... But no, that would be too much to ask of one of the Draconia bloodline.
Home Tap 1: Who'd ever go to Night Raven College? What could these barely born chicks even hope to teach me?
Home Tap 2: I can't stand these Silver Owl folk. They lay waste to the forest, pollute the water, and just do as they please... We'll cast them out.
Home Tap 3: Baur of the Royal Guard is a staunch fellow from Sunset Savanna. I'd say his loud volume, stubbornness, and constant nagging are some of his faults, however.
Home Tap 4: What, you think my mask is frightening? That's how most humans seem to react to it. I thought it was quite stylish, too.
Home Tap 5: If you need something of me, speak quickly. ...I look like someone you know? So what? Don't stop and call out to me for something that trivial.
Home Tap - Groovy: Maleanor-sama was quite the spitfire back in her younger days. I wouldn't be able to count how many times I'd have to accompany her as she snuck out of the castle to romp around in the forest.
Duo: [LILIA]: Sebek, whatever you do, don't get in my way. [SEBEK]: I'll cover you, Lilia-sama!
Requested by Anonymous.

Wailing about “you love me so you’ll love my child” but w melleanor and silver
"—and do not let Vanrouge within twenty meters of the kitchens, is that clear, Counselor? Inform the kitchen staff that they have my exact permission to maim him on sight with the nearest sharp object. Oh, do not duck your face like a quivering kitten as if I cannot see that grimace, Counselor— that man has survived much worse and scraped through with life and limb and still persists to terrorize us all with his presence, isn't that right, my dear one?"
From within her arms, Lilia's child coos and babbles something far more intelligent than her trailing, fretful advisors back at her, and she taps a dark painted talon delicately against its plush cheek in fond agreement.
Lilia's child.
Meleanor rolls the words silently within her mouth, holds them there to taste the strange, but pleasant, flavor of their meaning.
Of all the fae in all their lands, who would have ever dared to dream that Lilia Vanrouge would take to a child like a fish to water, or a fledgling to the skies?
She can still hear him now, grumbling and griping so about the burden of children, their helplessness and neediness as unnecessarily weak creatures. In a rare form of mercy, not once did she pry— for how could she, when she knew the answer even if it was not in specifics? When fae were perishing at the hands of humankind's avaricious cruelty, how could she dare chastise him when she was so certain that Lilia's bitterness only existed towards himself?
Her hypothesis had been proven correct when her most trusted General had been present for Malleus' hatching, a softness that she had only seen once before smoothing the harsh lines of his battle-weary gaze. Perhaps she had the right of bias; it was only correct that anyone melt at the sight of her darling son, chirping and mewling miniature fonts of emerald flame.
But that softness had reappeared tenfold when Lilia had knelt before her in the privacy of her chambers where no other fae save for two were ever allowed, revealing the swaddled contents of his cloak with a desperate, fervent need for approval.
He woke for me, she remembers her oldest friend confessing in a voice choked with awe and an emotion that had nearly frightened her (her!) with its intensity. Meleanor, do you understand what this means? He is the son of our enemy, lost and forgotten by time, and he woke for me.
Oh, she had understood as perfectly then as she does now. It was for that reason alone that she had stayed her hand from where it had been readied to smite the child from Lilia's arms, to strip it from existence out of fear that it had somehow bewitched the one fae with more reason to detest humanity than all the rest.
True love was so rare in this world; it had taken her centuries to find her heart's desire. How could she wrest that from Lilia, as he kneels before her and bares his soul, staring down at the sleeping infant cradled in his arms with a delicate strength she did not know him to possess and the dazed look of a parent struck with the dazzling knowledge that the child they hold is more perfect than any creature alive on the earth?
She could not— the proof of which rests in her arms and happily teethes on strands of her gleaming hair, warm and soft and heavy in the sweet way of babes.
"And that is why we cannot allow your pathetic wretch of a father to ruin the celebration of your first blessing, isn't that right— Silver?"

┆ Lilia Vanrouge x Male Draconia Reader ┆
+18 MINORS DO NOT INTERACT
Pale as a porcelain doll, Hair as dark as night, Eyes that shine brighter than any ruby. That was the beauty of Lilia Vanrouge.
Here was the fearless General of Briar Valley. Lying down, tied up, ready to take his king’s order.
His Cock was hard and pulsing. It clashed between the two male’s stomach’s. He could’ve easily broken the Ties that Are around his Wrists and eyes already but the thought of This turned him on tremendously as shown between his obvious arousal. The second he felt the tip in, he couldn’t help but Break out in a moan. His whole body twitched in pleasure as his Hole tighten around the length of the cock opening up his insides.
“I- H-Hold on a second! Ngh~ ahh Too fast!”
His eyes rolled back and he couldn’t help but close his eyes within his bind in bliss.
He was always stuck onto one (or two) person and too busy with the war to pleasure himself much less engage in sexual activities so all of this was new to him and his body.
You bit his shoulder every time he made a sound as you thrusted into him. It left a pretty mark on his pale complexion. Your fangs seemed to have broke his skin which caused blood but he didn’t seem to mind and even moaned in encouragement especially combined with the pleasure of your dick hitting a different spot in him that caused him to arch his back in total bliss.
“A-ah Your highness-“ his face got hotter and his voice staggered. The words seemingly got caught in his throat. You leaned in to plant a kiss on his soft lips but you pulled away before he had a chance to react.
“You’re absolutely breathtaking. More beautiful than any creature I’ve ever laid my eyes upon.” You cooed and eventually laid your mouth on his once again hungrily. He tasted better than any divine nectar, any 5 star meal Your personal chefs could cook up with. You begged for entrance and he quickly allowed. Your tongue quickly traced his fangs and your newfound territory, quickly claiming What is now yours. You pulled away for breath after a while . You took out your still harden dick and let it lay between your heated bodies. He whined from the lack of pleasure but was quickly replaced with a moan once again as Your mouth went down before reaching his chest and biting down on his nipples. Your tongue worked one nipple as your other hand played with the other. You rolled one nipple between your two fingers making his mouth You never knew how sensitive he was but here he was Moaning as if he wanted to be breeded with another Draconia heir. You let go of his nipples and quickly went down until u reach his still tighten hole. You quickly licked his hole as if you haven’t eaten in days. His voice came out hoarse and let out a long broken moan at the pleasure between his legs.
“S-Shit. F-FUCK.” His thighs quickly wrapped around your head.
“Gonna Cum! Ngh~ Gonnacumgonnacumgonnacum!”
The white clear liquid Quickly layed spread on his stomach as you Licked it up tasting the salty but sweet taste.
You wrapped your mouth around the tip in order to get more of the taste and easily eased your way down the head. You then took one of your hands and grabbed the base of his shaft, slowly stroking up and down while your mouth continued to work on his head. You ran small licks against the slit, tasting and lapping all of the precum that was forming. Whether it was his mouth or cock, he tasted wonderful and you couldn’t get enough of him.
“I-I think I’ma c-c-cum again!!” You took your mouth out of his shaft before he could Cum. He whined at the loss of pleasure. You quickly lined up ur dick in his hole once again and entered his less tighten hole by inch. After a few seconds he quickly Gave you the green light.
“A-Ah Move-“
You quickly began to rock ur hips into him making a bunch of noises that squelched every time you thrusted. You could feel every inch of him. You buried your cock deep within him as both ur moans filled the entirety of the room.
“I’m close! please! I-“
You fasten the pace and sucked on his neck once again. He wrapped his legs around your waist off the bed and pulsed around your cock. He cried out before once again cumming between your stomach’s. Not much later Your quickly filled him up with your seed.
You two came down from your high and with a wave of his wrist, The ties quickly unraveled.
He laid down next to you with a flushed face.
“You alright?” You were able to stammer out.
“Mm.. I-Im good. Just tired I suppose. I feel quite young again though fufu~”
You couldn’t help but chuckle at his Statement and once again, Lilia was the teasing bat that you came to know and love. You wrapped your arms around his naked Body and brought the covers to shield both of your bodies. He Laid his head between your neck and kissed it.
“So.. another round?”
“LILIA!!”

I've been dreaming of the Seeker of Cradles.
He swore to protect them. His children, his princess, his country.
Lives are precious, and he will not see them snuffed out prematurely.
How does a moment last forever? How can a story never die?
Lilia acts before he can think.
He pays no mind to the audible gasps of the senators, to Baul’s worried pleading. The only voice he listens to is the one that draws him like a moth to a glowing flame.
It’s a shrill cry, the sound any infant makes. But the sob is filled with an overwhelming sadness, a deep desire that resonates with him. Lonely, longing for love.
It breaks his heart, makes him tear up.
“Wait for me!" he shouts. "I’m coming to you right now...!”
He thunders up the steps of Cradle Tower, bracing himself against the lightning hurtling his way. His hood is thrown off, hair whipping, slapping him in the face and standing on end. Lilia fears no man--but in the presence of such sheer, raw power, he's compelled to cower.
He soldiers through, forcing himself up another step. Right as his foot connects, a wild bolt comes down hard, striking him.
Lilia lets out a guttural cry, his small body keeling over. Every fiber of his being screeches in pain.
"Vanrouge-dono...!!"
He stays stationary for one long, awful moment. Then--a sharp intake of breath--and he miraculously rises on trembling legs.
"H-Hah..." he grits out, clutching onto himself. "Is that... Is that all you've got?! It'll take a lot more than THAT to take me out. Your mother has made me deal with tantrums far worse than this!!"
Lilia resumes the arduous climb. More lightning is lobbed at him. Wincing, he wills his aching muscles to weave as best he can around the incoming attacks.
He's nearing the top of the stairwell now, where the power is most concentrated and the wind howls like a banshee. Lilia raises his voice, calling over the storm.
"Are you upset because no one's paying attention to you? Well, you're wrong!! Everyone... Everyone is terribly worried about you!!
"You're such a spoiled child, rejecting your grandmother's magic. Do you know what will happen to you if you don't take it?! You'll die. You'll DIE, and all the people who sacrificed themselves so you could live was for nothing. You don't have the luxury of choice!! You MUST live!!"
The future depends on you.
He doesn't know if the unborn child can understand him or not. It must, to some extent, because the screaming in his head escalates to a frenzied pitch. A strong gale nearly knocks Lilia off the tower--he grasps onto a column and inches closer to its treasure.
The dark, speckled egg floating inside of a barrier.
"You stubborn thing!! Lilia scolds, pushing against the magical shield. His palms burn, as if coated with acid. "If you still refuse... then take me instead of Maleficia...!! I'll give you everything."
He pushes, the barrier holding firm. Pain climbs up his forearms, eating him alive from the inside out. He feels his energy being leeched, his flesh screaming, on fire, as it is sucked out.
"My love..."
The barrier shudders, shakes.
"My magic..."
His biceps are searing, his blood, molten.
"My life...!!"
A crack.
"Accept it all, Malleus...!!"
It breaks.
Lilia falls through, arms extended toward the egg. He entraps it, hugging it tightly against his chest. It’s warm. Malleus is warm, and Lilia can feel a faint flutter of a heart on his skin. Contentedness floods him, even as he feels the pull of magic as it is drained and hungrily devoured.
The egg gives off a green glow from within. The light grows brighter and brighter, until—
“Kyuuuuuuuuuuu!”
Suddenly, an explosion of blinding white. The shell splinters and sheds.
There is no egg in Lilia’s arms, but a lizard with raven scales and a violet underbelly and spines. It blinks up at the general through round, reptilian eyes, belching a line of emerald fire.
“A-Ah… You are…” Lilia’s knees go weak. He falls to the ground, still cradling the baby to him. “Malleus…! You’re here at long last. I… I-I…”
He doesn’t realize it, but he has started to cry uncontrollably. Fat tears dribble down his cheeks and land on the baby dragon’s hide.
Lilia allows himself to wail. It’s ugly, full of raw emotion. Less human and more like the cry of a hideous beast.
From below, cheers and praise float up to him.
“Our hero!”
“Congratulations, Vanrouge!”
“The prince owes his life to you.”
Their words sting his head. The world wavers, wildly distorting--Lilia can't tell if it's his tears blurring his vision or not.
He crumples over with a groan. "M-My head... Agggh!"
"Kyuuuu?" Malleus pads a claw onto his cheek, confused.
The senator's voices are growing louder, angrier.
"VANROUUUUUGE!!"
"What has he done?! This is going to be a scandal--a scandal, do you hear me?!"
"Oh, to think that a disgusting bat has tainted the noble Draconia bloodline...!"
The contradictory shouts mix. It feels like there are fists beating his skull in from both sides. Lilia hangs his head, pulls at his hair, tries to understand the clashing sounds.
That's when he senses the presence of a shadow standing over him.
"I’ve found you at last, Lilia.”
He slowly raises his eyes, careful to keep Malleus guarded with his arms. There is a man in black robes towering over him, his mouth fixed in a frown. A pair of horns protrudes from his head, crowning his ominous yet regal aura.
“What… Who are you?!” Lilia demands of the stranger. “That face, those horns…!”
They're just like Levan and Meleanor's.
The stranger ignores his question. His expression has morphed from displeasure to anger. "Insolent fools!! How dare they speak ill of you. There will be severe consequences for this.”
The air stirs, chilling. Thunder crashes in the distance, seemingly in response to his fury.
He regards Lilia again, his voice dropping to a dangerously dulcet coo. “Ah, but you needn't concern yourself with them."
He takes a stride forward, and Lilia shrinks away. "S-Stay back! I'm warning you...!"
"What sort of a dream would you like to have this time, hmm?" he asks nonchalantly. "A dream in which mother and father are still by your side? A dream where you can live freely with your children? A dream for you to find true love? Just say the word, and it is yours."
With each suggestion, Lilia backs up further and further--until he is nearly at the platform's edge. Wind blows from below, sending hair and fabric flapping.
Here is the devil, come to tempt, and the jaws of death behind him.
The stranger bends down, his smile serpentine and eyes iridescent, twisted with obsession. Charming as a snake. He extends an arm, palm open. "Come, Lilia. Take my hand."
“FATHER!!”
CLANG!
A bolt of silver arrives, expertly blocking Malleus's outstretched hand. He stumbles back, glaring at the two bodies that put themselves between him and Lilia.
“You are…”
“Are you alright?” The quiet question comes from a boy with aurora eyes—clear as a cloudless sky.
Silver.
“Lilia-sama, stand back!!” His partner, Sebek, barks, baton at the ready. “We will protect you!”
“What nuisances,” Malleus snarls. “Still you insist on disrupting these dreams? It is a hopeless endeavor.”
“Maybe it is.” Silver tightens his hold on his own baton. Resolution threads his voice, and he stands his ground against the encroaching monster. “But we will never stop trying until we’ve broken through your blessing.”
“Bless... ing?”
The single word is like magic. One droplet rippling in a pond, setting off a chain reaction.
Memories fire off—the departure, the packing, the party, well wishes, the thorns. Someone screams, jet black tears streaming down their face. The wrath, the hurt.
“I DON’T WANT TO LOSE YOU!!”
The fog lifts from Lilia’s head, and the world clears. The identity of the horned stranger, the same as the baby dragon he holds.
Malleus… It’s you. It was always you.
Lilia gives a shaky laugh. "This is no blessing, boys. It's a curse."
Malleus glowers. “… You’ve awakened, haven’t you?!”
“That’s right. It seems I was dreaming for quite some time too—but I’m alright now, thanks to Silver and Sebek~”
“Father…”
“Lilia-sama!!”
“You too then… You’ve decided to turn traitor on me.” He hisses it, loathes the taste of treachery.
“No, Malleus.”
“Kyuuuuuu?”
Lilia steps beside his students—a general joining his knights. Ruby meets emerald, glittering with defiance.
“We’re going to save you, simple as that 🎵”

❀ ❝ 𝗮𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 ❞
━ lilia vanrouge x fae! gn! reader ━ being a retired soldier of briar valley won't stop you from attending night raven college, but it seems the fates have decided to make you miserable by sorting you in the same dorm as a certain someone you wanted to forget, someone you have never spoken to for the past 300 or so years.
includes a few spoilers for chapter 7! f/n stands for first name.
do not steal or translate without my permission.
"just how long is this blasted ceremony going to last?"
a fae in the sea of humans, merfolks, and faes alike mumbled under their breath as they scoffed to themselves, crossing their arms as they wanted to get out of this uncomfortable yet stylish ceremonial robe.
once it was their turn to be sorted, the ex-soldier of briar valley stood before the dark mirror as it spoke to them, "state thy name."
"f/n l/n."
"...f/n l/n, the nature of your soul is... diasomnia!"
the fae merely hummed in response before softly thanking the dark mirror and lining up with the other first-year students that are sorted in diasomnia. they, of course, did not fail to notice a familiar mint green-haired fellow in the line.
'sebek zigvolt... isn't that baul's grandson and... his student?'
they shook their thoughts away and tried to focus back on the ceremony, watching as a new student ━ or so they say ━ caused a fuss because of their little cat, but the fae knew this little creature was a magical beast.
after the whole fuss, they got into their dorm and were about to head to their room, when they heard a familiar voice behind them.
"ah, you must be one of the new students... or not. i don't remember seeing a traitor in our dorm."
the voice sounded oh-so-familiar to this fae, causing them to sigh as they turned around and met with his raspberry-red eyes, one that was full of life compared to when they last met. they gulped softly to themselves but kept their indifferent expression on as they stared at the man before them.
"...not really pleased to meet you again, l/n."
to him, that was an utter lie.
to them, that sounded like another one of his painful truths.
"not so pleased to meet you either, vanrouge."
the fae then turned around and left to head to their new room, leaving the ex-general in the hallways of his dormitory as he sighed to himself and mumbled, "after 300 years, you had to show up and pretend nothing ever happened between us, huh?"
meanwhile, the fae crashed on their bed and stared upwards, trying to calm their quickened heartbeat after meeting with that certain someone after so long.
"damn it, of all dorms, it had to be one where he's the vice leader..."
tough luck for this little faerie. it seems they have to face their past once again.
the fae wanted to roam around their dorm and explore for a while, but the chances of meeting him out there again are high and may the thorn fairy forbid they ever cross paths again today.
and so, they spent most of their days roaming around and exploring the esteemed night raven college and attending their classes, all while avoiding him. they have crossed paths with silver and sebek once in a while, but those two have no idea who this faerie was to their precious instructor.
of course, f/n had come face to face with their crown prince for the first time, since he hasn't hatched yet by the time they disappeared and ran away from briar valley.
those three had no idea who f/n exactly was, and they only knew one thing.
they're an ex-soldier of the royal army in briar valley.
"father, if you don't mind me asking, is f/n a co-worker of yours?" asked the silver-haired boy in curiosity, wanting to know more about the new addition to their dormitory, just like the other two.
"i have crossed paths with them a few times and thanked them for serving the country," spoke the horned fae as he sipped on his tea while looking at the older fae seated across him.
"they spoke of my grandfather as well. are they a co-worker of yours, lilia-sama?" asked the mint-haired first-year as he looked at his instructor.
lilia sighed and had no choice but to tell them, now that they were curious. he set his teacup down and hummed to himself, thinking about where to start. however, before they could say anything else, another voice chimed in.
"you could say we are co-workers. though, comrades would be a better term."
all of their heads turned to look at the source of the voice, and there stood the ex-soldier of briar valley with an indifferent expression on their face, but one could argue that their eyes could indicate they were a little nervous.
"ah, l/n... what an unpleasant surprise..."
the other three looked at lilia as he said those words and wondered, if f/n was a comrade, why is he treating them like an enemy?
"vanrouge, i have shown myself this time to settle things with you," spoke f/n as they still stood there, not caring about the inquisitive gazes of malleus, silver, and sebek.
"after 300 years and you finally decided to patch things up?" asked lilia as he raised a brow at them, focusing his raspberry-red eyes on the faerie before them.
f/n bowed their head a little in shame as they spoke, "...i apologise for suddenly leaving you behind like that. it was not my intention to hurt you."
it was silent for a while ━ an uncomfortable silence for all five of them in the lounge. seconds felt like minutes, and minutes felt like hours to them due to how long the silence was. silver then looked at his father, noticing how his eyes remained on the faerie before him, how his lips had a thin line as he did not want to speak just yet, and how his grip on his teacup tightened then loosened a bit.
it did not take long for the other three to guess that these two had some history.
"...i know a simple apology is not enough to make up for the 300 years i've lost with you, but i did not have a choice back then," muttered the faerie as their eyes set on the floor, avoiding lilia's gaze as they felt uncomfortable to face their mistakes.
...
"l/n, i order you to spy on briar valley's royal army. gain their trust and give us their information."
"yes, sir."
the faerie found themselves enlisted in briar valley's army, working closely with the general and meeting the infamous princess often. f/n kept a fake personality on to win both of their trust, to know everything about them and the next plans of the army to defeat the opposite side. none of them ever had suspicions against f/n at first, because what faerie would work for the human army?
things were well for f/n at first, having to successfully carry out their tasks perfectly and gain the trust of two of the most powerful beings in the country.
that is until they felt their usually icy-cold heart warming up and beating faster around the general. it seems that spending more time around this general to extract information from him ended up making this little faerie fall in love.
love? how absurd. there is no time to fall in love in the middle of a war.
but the way his stern yet subtly adorable eyes meet theirs, the way his hands feel on theirs, the way he would offer them his food ━ no matter how distasteful his cooking was, no one can afford to be picky when in the front lines, as he says ━ all these little actions would make f/n's heart jump in their chest.
no matter how hard f/n denies it, they are falling for the general and soon, they would forget about their mission. instead, they have a new task this time: to establish a relationship deeper than friendship and camaraderie with general lilia vanrouge.
everything was well with the two of them. their newly formed relationship has given both of them another reason to get up in the morning and fight in battles to win the war, to protect each other and their beloved country.
however, any avid reader would know that happy endings don't last forever. an unfortunate circumstance befell the two military couple, and f/n found themselves back in their boss' lair. the damned human looked down on them as he spoke, "so, l/n, do you have any explanation for not replying back to our letters?"
the faerie in shackles glared up at the wretched man but did not say another word, refusing to even speak and address him. the man chuckled darkly as he continued looking down at the faerie with a smirk, "it seems the little faerie has fallen in love and forgotten their purpose. well, let's see how your dearest beloved will react upon discovering that the person who holds his heart is a traitor."
f/n's eyes widened for a moment as they struggled to break free from the shackles, looking up at the man as they spoke, "wait, don't...! he doesn't have to know!"
the man disregarded f/n's words and gestured to the rest of his guard to toss the faerie in the basement, locking them up in there for, what they intended to be, centuries.
f/n managed to sneak out at some point, breaking free from the chains and disappearing from the lair as they ran away, hoping to rush back to lilia, but they knew it would be difficult to find him deep in the forest.
so they did one thing: escaping from the land of briar. there was no use to run back to lilia as f/n thought their boss had probably revealed their identity as a spy to him. he'd just push them away if f/n decides to head back.
...
"let's not talk about this in front of them," spoke lilia as he sipped on his tea, but the other three glanced at him and decided these two should talk it out. malleus was the first to stand as he said, "it seems you two need to discuss something personal... we'll excuse ourselves."
the three then walked away, leaving f/n and lilia in the lounge as the ex-soldier/spy sat on the couch across lilia, still refusing to look at him in the eye. it was silent for a moment, it was uncomfortable, it was awkward.
none of them were able to look at each other for a while.
none of them were able to utter a word.
until f/n let out a sigh and decided that now was the time to face their past mistakes, ask for forgiveness from their former lover, and to explain their 300-year-long disappearance.
"...vanrouge━"
"just address me the way you used to."
"...lilia, i've been avoiding you and running away for the past 300 years because i was worried that they are still out there..." spoke f/n as their tone went low and apologetic and their eyes stayed on the male before them.
"and you never once thought that i could protect you?" asked lilia. "... i had thought you found out about my identity and would want nothing to do with me," answered f/n as they hung their head low.
"and who are you to decide that for me?"
f/n went silent for a moment, looking back at lilia as they bit the inside of their cheek in anxiousness. lilia had a serious expression on, one that f/n grew fond of in the past, but it was also one that is rarely seen from lilia nowadays in nrc.
the silence was deafening, even if it was only for a few seconds. the ex-soldier twiddled with their thumbs as their heart pounded in their chest, all the while lilia looked back at them with an indifferent expression, but it was evident from his pained tone that he was still upset at them.
"do you have any idea how much i worry for you out there when you disappeared? i had no idea if you were alive or dead, i had no idea if you were safe or locked up. i heard nothing from you for the past 300 years and i thought that maybe you died and your body was never found, but then now i see you here in the academy, alive and well, acting like there was nothing between us," responded lilia in a worried yet frustrated tone as his eyes glared at his former lover.
"i thought you'd be angry at me for betraying you," replied f/n.
"and you think i won't be angry at you for running away and not giving me an explanation?" asked lilia, letting out a heavy sigh as he grew displeased, avoiding f/n's gaze as he refused to even look at them now, "but no matter how infuriated i was, your well-being still becomes one of my priorities."
then, silence followed. f/n could not find the right words to say, and lilia could not find any other words to add to his statements. the two sat there in silence, waiting for the other to at least say something to break this pin-drop silence.
after what seemed like hours, but was actually a couple of seconds, f/n stood up and took a seat beside lilia, wanting to grab his hand but opting for just sitting beside him as they looked at the male.
"...i'm sorry."
lilia let out a sigh before giving them a small smile, ruffling their hair as he spoke, "don't fret, it has been centuries since then. i am not a being who holds grudges for too long."
f/n smiled a little and hesitantly wrapped their arms around lilia, and he did not object to their affection as he, too, wrapped his arms around his former lover. once they pulled away, sebek suddenly spoke by the staircase.
"they're your ex-lover, lilia-sama?!"
silver tried to hush sebek, but lilia and f/n had already looked up and noticed the three of them eavesdropping and peeking down at them. lilia smiled in response to sebek's words as he spoke, "hmm... i'd say remove the 'ex' and you have it right."
f/n looked at lilia in surprise as they muttered, "what...?"
lilia looked back at the fae beside him, giving them a cheeky smile as he asked, "we never officially broke up, no?" f/n blinked their eyes in surprise before shrugging their shoulders, "i mean... technically not?"
f/n then looked back up at the other three, their eyes landing on silver as they spoke, "i heard silver calls you father." lilia nodded his head as silver gave f/n a polite smile and bowed his head in respect to his father's lover, "uh... yes, i'm his son."
"is that so? then, it looks like you three earned another parental figure."

Go Malleus Go!! Show them your might 💞💞
I hope one day we can see Malleus’ true powers that’s not related to his OB or him being ‘incapaciated’ due to injuries or something.
Show me his raw strength. Show me the person who is the 5th strongest. 👏👏
I like how his powers are earth against fire which in the game itself…you know that fire is stronger 😂
So either they didn’t want to make green flames, or malleus is so strong they really said he can beat Rollo with a weaker element 😆🤣 (or maybe it was malleus’ way of not killing Rollo by using weaker magic) I just find it funny.
On another note, I want to see Lilia in his prime too. He keeps teasing us in his voice lines about it and I know General Vanrouge was supposed to be a reflection of that but I want to see current Lilia strong and powerful. (Like we saw in beans day, it would be funny to see him scold malleus too, “I may be old but that doesn’t mean I’m weak!” Kind of thing 😆🤣)

Lilia Vanrouge x Reader
✿Briar's Secret [PART 1] ✿
Notes: Angst, slight fluff? Fae-human war era, Meleanor's little sister!reader, Chief strategist!reader.
Includes my twst OC Midnight. [Might post him soon]
Shallow sunlight streamed in through the enamoring quartz balcony of the throne room, which, draped in curtains of velvet and obsidian, failed not to pay worthwhile tribute to the dweller of the grey, marbled throne. The crown princess of the fae, her hair as raven as the night sky and eyes emerald as the sea- Meleanor was her name, tapped a clawed finger on the throne impatiently as the General of Briar Valley entered the hall.
Her younger sister [Y/N], who had eyes in a glistening shade of [e/c] and only a single horn wrested on her head, immediately wasted no time in absorbing the General's features and etching them into the depths of her essence. General Lilia Vanrouge. Her lifelong love. He took off his mask, which had met with many a worn out tear during the intensity of his numerous battles on the front lines, to reveal a set of precious ruby red eyes set under long eyelashes that fluttered open as if to endeavour the commemorative moment that marked the reveal of his beautiful irises. His dark lips were pressed in a thin line, his black hair messy from being on the front lines, yet to her, it was perfect from all angles, with those conspicuous red streaks that only accentuated his beauty further. Behind him, trailed his trusted aide, Baul Zigvolt.
"YOU'RE LATE, LILIA!" Meleanor roared, the echoing thud of her staff sounding in the room as she slammed it against the ground.
"My apologies, Princess." Lilia bowed courteously, remembering to be formal to the future queen of his nation. [Y/N] found it quite adorable, in all honesty. "There has been quite the miscalculation in our strategy." He glared at [Y/N], who only shrugged in response. Not even she had the ability to bring about prediction on every outcome. "The enemy has surrounded Ibara Castle. We must leave immediately."
"Leave? Due to those petty humans that squander on our land?" Meleanor scoffed as she crossed one leg over the other. "Never. I thought they were but mere pigs yapping outside. I shall not leave this castle."
"Quit being stubborn!" Lilia yelled, in his familiar tone. [Y/N] chuckled, remembering those days when she had endeavoured to put Lilia in dresses and play house with him as kids. He'd always raise his voice at her and she'd end up crying. Those were the days. Innocent ones, of fun and play. "We have to leave! We aren't kids anymore! When have I ever been wrong?!" Lilia yelled, his voice hoarse and desperate.
"Take my sister and my child. And leave." Meleanor commanded. [Y/N]'s eyes widened before a small smirk broke out on her lips. They were really alike, the two sisters. Always so self-sacrificing. Not that she would allow a sacrifice from Meleanor's end.
"The hell?! No way! All of you are coming with me! Thats you included, Meleanor!" Lilia protested, but Meleanor threw her egg at him. He managed to catch it in just the barest of timescales, a scowl etched on his face as he turned his nose up at her.
"What the hell are you thinking?! What if the egg broke?!" Lilia clutched the egg tightly, embracing the pitch black covering holding the future prince tightly to his torso.
"I entrust it to you, Lilia." Meleanor smirked. [Y/N] crossed her arms over her chest. In her mind, there was only one plan as the chief strategist of the royal court. One that certainly did not involve the sacrifice of the future queen of Briar Valley. Rather one that included the sacrifice of a singular, expendable pawn titled the 'second princess of Briar Valley'.
"Hell no, you don't. Besides, the egg won't hatch without its parents' love! I can't love anyone!" Lilia barked. How untrue his words were, how vile a thought that Lilia was not capable of loving. A mild ache spread in [Y/N]'s heart.
"You love me, though, don't you? Or was that all a lie when you proposed to me? Besides, you love Raven too. You guys spent more time together than married couples." Meleanor chuckled. [Y/N] forced a smile on her face. She knew Lilia loved her elder sister. She'd never be a choice. All she cared for most was the smile that decorated Lilia's face. So for him, she would . . .
"THAT WAS WHEN I WAS A KID, 200 YEARS AGO! It doesn't mean anything now!" Lilia shot back. Ah, but how difficult it was for [Y/N] to believe the raven haired General's words when he so clearly preferred the company of her elder sister. [Y/N] felt the leader of the Midnight Solstice, her personal assassin Midnight, tug at her sleeve. His pleading azure eyes bore into hers. He defied none of her orders, yet at this moment, he showed a single sliver of wavering hesitance. She gave a light pat to his short jet black hair before walking towards the General.
"I am telling you, take [Y/N] and my egg and leave-" Meleanor was interrupted when [Y/N] cleared her throat. Meleanor's brow rose in slight curiosity as she gazed at her little sister.
"You have it backwards. Big sis Meleanor, you are going with them. And I am staying here with Midnight to defend the castle." She announced with a slight wave of her hands to gesture her intentions.
"DON'T BE CRAZY! YOU'RE NOT EVEN STRONG, YOU'RE JUST THE GODDAMN STRATEGIST! You're a weakass princess who's never been on the front lines! You're not even half as strong as Meleanor is! No, not even a damn tenth of it!" Lilia scowled harshly at her, his crimson eyes glinting with a raging fury that rivaled the embers of fire. How his words dug daggers into her heart. His comparison of her wretched nature to that of the benevolent and strong image of her elder sister pained her to the core.
"Lilia is right. You can't stay here, [Y/N]. It would be much too dangerous." Meleanor frowned, with a look that only displayed concern for her younger sibling.
"I am the chief strategist. I have a plan." [Y/N] murmured as she tapped her foot in slight frustration on the ground.
"Oh yeah?! Most of those damn plans involve a low survival rate for you! Even your new strategy led to the enemies surrounding us! Explain that!" Lilia growled, his fists clenching as he tried hard to suppress his anger. [Y/N]'s heart further shattered, she knew deep down that every soldier's death on the front lines was only the result of her damned strategies. Lilia didn't need to say that out loud for the Sevens' sake.
"I plan to use my unique magic." She finally revealed. A look of shock crossed the looks of every person present in the room, save for Midnight.
"You don't have one!" Lilia scoffed, crossing his arms over his chest as he glared at her icily.
"I do. But it can only be used once. I was saving it for a moment such as the one currently upon us." [Y/N] answered sternly, glaring back at the furious General. "It has power enough to take out every single troop out there."
"Then I shall permit you to use it. However, we shall remain in the castle." Meleanor offered gently with a smile painted upon her dark lips.
"No can do. It is too powerful a magic. You must escape or you will face the brunt of it as well. Only someone so capable of defense magic as Midnight could survive it. Hence why I plan on taking him with me." [Y/N] replied, a serious expression on her otherwise laid back face. The one horned princess was serious, which was not something out of the ordinary, yet at the same time, it was excruciatingly new.
"Then I shall permit it. I trust you to not lie to me. I shall escape with Lilia and the others." Meleanor nodded. Something was off, it was not that difficult to sense, yet the frustrating reality of the situation veiled Meleanor's eyes with a blindfold of hope.
"You're not telling us something." Lilia snarled. As always, the General was quick to pick up on things out of the mundane, his fists still clenched in an effort to rein in his anger.
"I will return alive. This, I promise. Please, Lilia. I beg you, trust me." [Y/N] implored as she looked at him pleadingly. Despise was all she felt on lying to her beloved General, yet it was all she could do to convince his stubborn intellect to run away to a place of safety where harm had little to no reach.
Lilia gazed at her, his crimson eyes scanning her expression for anything he could use against her. He took a moment to think before he finally relented. "And your chance of survival?"
"Guaranteed." Lie after lie exited [Y/N]'s mouth. "I'll regroup with you guys after I'm done with those nuisances outside. I promise. We will meet again." .
Lilia groaned before tousling his hair with his hand. "Fine. I'll leave it to you, Chief Strategist. Even Meleanor believes you, so I have no reason to doubt you." She knew why Lilia trusted her this much. She'd never once lied to him.
Her thoughts only raced thus:
Sorry, Lilia.
Please run away.
Please don't look back.
Please don't feel sad.

heyyy, if ur not too busy, can i request hcs of lilia vanrouge cooking...? i lowkey wanna see them descend into chaos lol
feel free to ignore/put off writing this :)
hello anon! firstly, i am so sorry i let this ask MARINATE in the ask box for like.... a long while... but sure! i kinda wrote this in a fic, so i hope you don't mind
word count: 500ish
as usual, more under the cut :)
“Hello? Silver? Yuu? Is anyone here?” Lilia called out, to an eerily silent Diasomnia lounge. “Well, I made some soup for you guys, so feel free to drop by the kitchen to have some!”
Meanwhile, a certain silver haired student and a magicless prefect were hiding behind some couches, silently grimacing at each other.
“Silver!” Yuu whispered, “I thought you said you hid all the pots in the kitchen!”
“I did!” He whispered back, “Fath- I mean, Lilia-senpai must’ve found them!”
“Oh no.. what did we do to deserve this punishment…”
“Good thing Sebek and Malleus-sama are both out right now, or Sebek would’ve dragged us to try Lilia’s cooking by now…”
Glancing at their surroundings, Yuu decided that the coast was clear, and they could head back to Silver’s room. Oh how wrong were they…
“EVERYONE GET IN POSITION! WAKA-SAMA HAS ARRIVED BACK FROM MAGIFT PRACTICE!” Sebek yelled, bursting through the door, only to be met with radio silence.
“…” Malleus slowly walked behind him, confused at why there wasn’t a usual scurry of students lining up in formation.
Silver looked at Yuu, and with a defeated sigh, they both resigned from their hiding spots and rose to greet Malleus.
“SILVER! I EXP-“ Sebek’s voice was cut off with Lilia suddenly hanging upside down from the ceiling.
“Ah, Malleus, Silver, Sebek and Yuu! Where were you? Fu fu fu.. anyways I made some soup for you guys!” the fae cheerfully said, “Why don’t you come into the kitchen and try some?”
“LILIA-SAMA! IT IS AN HONOUR TO HAVE FOOD YOU YOURSELF MADE!” Sebek quickly responded, “WE WILL GO TO THE KITCHEN AND TRY YOUR SOUP!”
“I’m rather full as of now-“ Silver interjected, only to be met with Lilia dragging the four of them to the kitchen.
“Oh- no, no, I insist! I promise this soup is better than all of my other creations!” Lilia cheerfully responded.
Sebek was rambling about trying the legendary war general’s cooking with Malleus and Silver silently grimacing at the punishment they were about to endure. Who in their right mind would WANT to try Lilia’s abominations?
As soon as the five of them entered the kitchen, a foul odor was wafting through the room. Yuu silently wished that they never stepped foot into Diasomnia today, of all days. Even if they really enjoyed the company of Malleus and Lilia, this was pushing it.
Lilia returned to the group with a pot of… who knows what.
It was bubbling thickly with lumps of various miscellaneous ingredients, and if Yuu didn’t know better, they would’ve thought that they were in Alchemy class with Crewel, and Lilia was brewing some potion.
“Is it… burnt?” Malleus uttered with a start.
“Oh, my dear Malleus, you do wound me!” Lilia said dramatically. “This is a nutritious soup consisting of salmon, tomatoes, nuts, beans, yoghurt and celery! It has all the nutrients growing adolescents require!”
“AS EXPECTED OF LILIA-SAMA TO HAVE OUR WELLBEING IN MIND!” Sebek shouted.
“Well, then, why don’t you try so-“ Lilia said, before he was interrupted by a loud clatter of a pot.
The pot filled with ‘soup’.
“Oh thank the Seven…” Silver quietly muttered before coughing awkwardly.
“Oh no! What a shame! I did put all my effort into making that….” Lilian lamented, “Luckily, I made an extra batch, just in case!”
“Oh no…..” Yuu and Silver groaned in unison.
i'm trying out a new layout, hopefully its working...

Imposter: Lilia Vanrouge
He’s playful and totally unsuspected…well almost
After the convenient explanations for his more…alien-like behavior
And strangely vast knowledge about many archaic topics of discussion
That’s beside the point
He’s just your very normal teammate that always seems to pop up behind your while your working
Dressed in pink and at a short stature
You figure if he ever turned out to be an imposter you could take him
So you begin to fight his presence less and less
Unconsciously letting your guard down
Lilia’s both honored and bored at this so he’ll meddle
Creating little incidents to get that cute little heart of yours pumping again
Maybe the gruesome surprise of your teammates' corpse
Or the sabotaged electric panel practically crushing you
Don’t be too scared he’s just kidding
He’s there for you to run to the whole time
So don’t fear
What he can’t stand is the little love affair you seem to have with yellow
Meeting at night, sneaking away after meetings, sitting together at lunch
It’s repulsive how he hears the whispers of your escape
Well if you were so eager to get off the ship
He’d just have to finish his work much earlier:
You let yourself be tugged by the man in the yellow suit. You tried to step softly, hoping your footsteps don’t echo through the empty ships. You bumped into his back as he made an abrupt stop; actually looking around at the room you ended up in. In the cold space of the pod-bay you waited for the familiar tune of deactivating the cameras.
*Brrring*
There it was! You joined your partner as he began to unscrew the electric panel allowing you to work your magic. Bypassing the captain’s key you were able to unlock one of the pods. Traditionally for an escape pod to be used the captain would have to authorize the ejection of a pod with a key but thanks to your expertise in electrical you were able to replicate the effect. Finally connecting the correct wires the sound of the locks being undone on the pod doors rang clear. You turned to your partner in yellow; already seeing the smile that no doubt was behind his bulky helmet. He began making his way to the door only to stop at the blaring alarm and the nighttime lights flashing red.
Warning! Warning! Oxygen reaching dangerous levels! Oxygen reaching dangerous levels!
The CPU’s AI spoke over the speaker. You shrugged when your partner tilted his head at you. The panel you were messing with had no connection to this alarm let alone many others; so this was news to you.
*Click* “You think they’ll be okay?”
His voice rang worried through your personal intercom. You responded back in reassurance.
*Click* “Don’t worry. They have their suits, too. Plus millions of emergency canisters!”
He nodded, put at ease at your memory,
*Click* “You’re right! Let’s take this time to—”
Before he could continue you were interrupted by another siren overlapping the urgent AI generated warnings.
Warning! Warning! Auto Navigation’s Unit offline! Auto Navigation’s Unit offline!
Alert! Alert! Fuel tank suffering pressure! Fuel tank suffering pressure! Release pressure in a timely manner!
You both held onto one another as the ship abruptly began to tilt. Not a drastic elevation but enough to leave you two stumbling to the walls of the ship. Holding onto the grooves along te wall the ship creaked and roared something terrible.
*Click* Are you okay!?”
You nodded and asked the same only for him to ask another question.
*Click* “Have you gotten anything from Captain? Or Lieutenant?”
You stilled as much as you could as a haunting realization came to view. Your official Innersloth suits were equipped with many things: built-in walkie-talkies, oxygen filters, water resistant solutions, and warming capabilities. With the built-in walkies was an official line that connected everyone on the ship–a group chat of sorts. If such major problems were being made for the CPU to continue its announcements it could only mean one unfortunate thing–
*Click* “Their…their communication is down! They don’t know what’s going on!”
The ship shook again, testing your balance as you struggled to keep yourself upright. Your partner on the other hand leaned into the tilt, pushing off their only claim of stability—the wall. You instinctively reached for them only for them to cage you against the wall.
*Click* “Get to a pod and be ready to leave in ten minutes if the sirens don’t stop!”
*Click* “What?! No I’m not leaving you! I’ll come with–”
*Click* “No, I can’t help if I don’t know your safe! Besides I never said you had to leave without me.”
You could practically see the smirk on his handsome face as he bowed his helmet to touch yours. You wanted so desperately to pull it off even with the threat of losing oxygen. But you fought your intrusive thoughts let him fight to pull himself into the hallway. You watched his back disappear behind the wall leaving you to wait. Seeing that he wasn’t actually going to turn around you began making your way to a pod only to snap your head up to the same hallway.
“AAAAAAAAAGHHHHH—”
A wet scream rang out as you watched pink tendrils shoot from the hallways. Bloodied and wiggling with torn pieces of the yellow alloy-fabric you could only paint a horrifying picture of those appendages tearing through your significant other. The image wasn’t only in your mind for long as you watched the tendrils return down the hallway to tear at something. With squelching sound of blood being sprayed and the thunky plops of something organic hitting the metal floor you tried to swallow the scream that threatened to release. As if to test your control, you squeaked as a hurling mass of something pink, red, and yellow slammed into the adjacent open pod. Three pods away from yourself. You refused to come any closer as the metallic smell and the familiar blob was all too familiar. You easily snapped out of it when those same tendrils emerged from the hallway blindly searching around for what you assumed must’ve been your sound.
With great difficulty you timed throwing yourself into the pod with the ship’s noisy destruction, in hopes of disguising your moves to escape. You prepared to move again pressing the button meant to close the door and launch the pod only for you to watch the base of said tendrils lead to their owner.
“Oya oya you’re already here! That’s good! I was worried I’d have to fetch you from the wreckage! Glad I don’t have to do that anymore!”
“L-ilia?”
A fanged smile and an intense blush took over his face as he watched your face morph from bewilderment to horror. To see your full attention no matter how negative on him and to get to witness an expression you’ve hopefully never made before. All just for him. He could hardly stand it.
“It was you!? Why–? What even–”
You were at a loss for words completely incoherent as you connected all of this to the imposter you all had been trying to weed out. The broken equipment, the dead or debilitated crewmembers, the whole reason why you and your partner were trying to leave. It was all him. You couldn’t focus on the signs that suggested anything other than a murderer hovering above you prepared to kill you next. With angry tears in your eyes, you went to slam the button only for your hand to stop by a pink tendril wrapping around your hand. You tried to move your other hand only for the same thing to happen effectively pinning you against the wall of the pod.
You fruitlessly struggled as more tendrils began to curl around your thighs, your hips, and most concerningly your helmet. Your resistance depleted immensely without your direct source of air letting Lilia push you to the floor to settle on top of you. Adrenaline dying in your veins you tried to buck your hips to throw the imposter off.
“Awww baby~! You’re so fiery~!I almost want to keep going–”, he squealed. Magenta eyes stared intensely at you before biting his lip as he reached behind him to squeeze the spot between your legs successfully knocking the air out of your lungs with a moan. Letting you fall limp, Lilia stood up, pulling you along with him by his tendrils as he easily looked out the still-open door of the pod.
“-buuttt we can’t! Especially not with the baby in tow!”
With your fading sight you watched the small gray suit run from the hallway before climbing into the pod. You vaguely recalled the child crewmate that the pink imposter would lead alongside him during tasks. Lilia greeted the little boy with a hug before smiling in his direction.
“Did you get the chip?”
The little one nodded pulling out a small microchip that had the Innersloth insignia. Handing it to Lilia, who pocketed the microchip before clapping his hands before lifting the little one up in the air with his normal arms.
“Yay! Good job! Now, seatbelts!”
Struggling to stay coherent you barely registered how you were buckled alongside the child who was looking between you two as if meaning to say something. Lilia seemed to pick up on this twirling your helmet playfully in his hands he reassured his kid.
“No worries Silvy. I’m just waiting before I put their helmet back on, they needed some help falling asleep.”
Doing just that you barely felt the comforting pats coming from the child beside you. Lilia let out a happy hum before buckling himself to close the pod door and activate the control panel. With a constant smile, he backed the pod away as the Innersloth ship combusted into a colorful bout of flames. Only seeing bright-colored blurs you were too busy leaning into the tendrils bringing the helmet to your head. Sucking in air desperately you were much more aware of lightened rubble floating in space. Your consciousness slipped away only hearing the gleeful cheers of Lilia before passing out completely.
“See that babes? That’s the work of a job well done!”

It was the most dreaded period of Mirai’s day, gym class. Mirai didn’t even know why he had to even be in a gym class that was centered around flight, when he had no magic to begin with. Mirai supposed that it was due to every freshman having a core schedule and with him being a student, albeit, half of one, that he still had to take it, but it really was pointless when all he could do the second half of class was sit there. Well at least he didn’t have to exert himself too much, and he got to stop earlier, so he guessed it had its own perks.
Mirai met up with Ace and Deuce on the field, the two already bickering about something.
“Can you two go five minutes without fighting about something?” Mirai asked, putting Grim down on the ground.
“He started it,” the two said at the same time. They both looked at each other, faces twisting in anger. “Did not,” they both shouted, “Did too! Jinx! Jinx again! You owe me a soda!”
Mirai laughed at the two.
“Hey freshies!”
Mirai whipped his head around, already knowing the owner of the voice. “Hey Cater,” Mirai waved as Cater made his way over to the group.
“Hey Boo,” Cater sang with a wink.
This was the only time Mirai liked gym class, when the upperclassmen had a joint session with his class, and that meant Cater would be there.
“With the amount of times you’ve signed up for this, one might think you actually cared for physical education,” A deep voice gruffed.
“Ha ha, very funny, Leona,” Cater sneered with a smirk, “We all know you’re here because you’re failing unlike the rest of us.”
“And you’re not?” Leona smirked.
“I’m not failing now, but unlike you, I don’t have any red marks for skipping as many times as you do.”
“But at least he tries, unlike you.”
Mirai looked behind Cater and was met with Vil Schoenheit’s piercing gaze.
“Why try when I don’t wanna do it anyways, #Lame,” Cater said nonchalantly.
There was a flash of light and suddenly Lilia Vanrouge materialized in front of Cater.
“You and a certain blue haired youth need to try harder in general,” Lilia laughed.
“Why do that,” Idia Shroud’s tired voice droned as he drug his feet as he walked up to the group. “Gym class is for normies, and meatheads, totally trash-tier.”
Mirai laughed, “Exactly. I don’t know what’s worse, the changing part, the public humiliation part, or the exercise part.”
“Ugh,” Idia groaned.
“See! My point exactly,” Cater laughed.
“I could drink ta that,” Leona gruffed.
“You guys are sad,” Vil sighed.
“Oh perks of being young,” Lilia sighed.
“Alright, alright you lot,” Coach Vargas shouted, blowing his whistle, “Enough chit chat! Line up!”
Everyone lined up, freshman in the front, third years in the back. Coach Vargas went over the day's lesson, which pretty much was the same every gym class, warm ups, two laps, then flight practice. Mirai wanted nothing more than to get out of the scorching hot midday sun and take a nap.
“Diamond,” Coach Vargas called, starting roll call.
“Heyo,” Cater waved with three fingers.
“Grim?”
“Here,” Grim squeaked.
“Kingscholar.”
Leona sighed.
“Kingscholar,” Coach Vargas called again warningly.
“Here,” Leona gruffed angrily.
“Schoenheit.”
“Here,” Vil said.
“Shroud.”
“Here,” Idia muttered tiredly.
“Spade.”
“Here,” Deuce shouted.
Ace snickered.
“Trappola,” Coach Vargas called.
“‘Sup,” Ace said, composing himself.
“Vanrouge.”
“Good afternoon,” Lilia smiled.
“Yuhara.”
“Here,” Mirai sighed.
After roll was over, Coach Vargas had everyone split up into pairs, an upperclassman to an underclassman. All they had to do was a series of stretches that consisted of arm stretches, toe touches, butterfly stretches, and back stretches. And while they did so, they had to spot for each other, making sure that they were doing them correctly and safely. Deuce ended up with Leona, Ace with Vil, which Ace cringed at, and of course, Mirai and Grim were paired with Cater.
“Okay,” Cater said, clapping his hands together, “how about we start with some simple arm stretches?”
Mirai nodded.
The pair stretched their arms, one arm hocked over the other, and Grim did so as well, stretching his little monster cat arms.
“Now toe touches,” Cater winked.
“O-Okay,” Mirai nodded.
Cater went first, standing straight before reaching down touching his toes on the first bend, holding the pose for ten seconds, then he stood up straight. Mirai really didn’t know why they had to be each other’s spotters, for they were just simple stretches.
“Okay, your turn.”
Mirai sighed dreading the stretch. Mirai stood up straight bending down to touch his toes, but only he didn’t, he couldn’t touch his toes. His fingertips only came down to his knees, and any lower bought a searing type of pain. Mirai felt his face flush in embarrassment and in disappointment.
“Can you go any further?” Cater asked softly, running a hand up and down Mirai’s bent back.
Mirai shook his head, standing straight, keeping his eyes downcast.
“That’s okay, we can move on.”
They moved on to a butterfly stretch, and once again, Cater went first, completing the stretch. Then Mirai followed and once again he wasn’t able to stretch down as far as he should. Mirai huffed in annoyance, not even holding the stretch for the required time. Grim watched Mirai with something akin to worry etched on his feline face, but he said nothing.
They moved onto the last set of stretches that consisted of stretching both arms to either spread legs, then one that laid their bodies flat to the ground between their spread legs, well, that’s how it was supposed to go, but that didn’t happen. Ace’s and Deuce’s groups were done, so they made their way over to Mirai and Cater, and not soon after Lilia, and Idia made their way over as well. There was a good majority of students who were still stretching scattered about, and Coach Vargas made his rounds, checking and critiquing everyone's work. Mirai just hoped he could finish before Coach Vargas got to him.
Mirai didn’t like the increase in eyes on him as their group grew in size, but he had to finish, lest he wanted to get marked for nonparticipating. Mirai tried his hardest to lay his torso to the ground and stretch his arms in front of himself, but he couldn’t. He couldn’t get any lower than measly putting his palms on the ground in front of himself.
“Yuhara,” Coach Vargas yelled, “I do not accept laziness! Stretch properly.”
The field got quiet and the entire class had eyes on the Magicless Prefect. Mirai grit his teeth, face flushing, glaring at the grass in front of him. Coach Vargas marched his way over standing over the group.
Cater stood up stammering, “But, but Coach-”
“Diamond, you’re supposed to be his spotter and he’s slacking,” Coach Vargas chided, cutting Cater off, “Didn’t I say I would only allow you to do this if you didn’t slack off?”
“W-Wait, that's, that’s not-”
“Yuhara! Do it again! Start from the beginning!”
The group stood in a tense silence as Mirai sighed angrily, getting into position, reaching forward only to stop before he really did anything.
“You’re not even trying,” Coach Vargas snapped, “Do it again.”
“Don’t you get it,” Cater shouted, “He can’t. He physically can’t!”
Ace and Deuce looked as if they wanted to help, but didn’t know how. Lilia was currently stopping Grim from giving Vargas a piece of his furry little mind, Idia looked as if he wanted to run and hide, the second hand embarrassment making his heart race, and the others looked as if they were ready to set the entire field ablaze.
Mirai stared angrily at the ground, moisture clinging to his eyelashes. He wanted to crawl into a hole and die. Mirai wanted to jump off the cliffs of the school and never be seen again.
“Again. You can’t do it right unless you don’t try,” Coach Vargas said.
“And he did.”
“You can’t possibly call that-”
“Here,” Mirai gritted out as he stood. Mirai ripped his prosthetic from its socket and thrust it at Vargas. “This is why I can’t! So please, if you can, revert the damages, please do!”
Coach Vargas looked at the group, shocked and clearly uncomfortable. Even though he didn’t want to back down, he grumbled to himself, and walked away blowing his whistle loudly.
“Two laps! Let’s go,” Coach Vargas shouted.
Mirai stood up, putting his arm back, before he jogged off ahead of the group, keeping his head down.
“Mirai,” Cater called, but Mirai didn’t listen.
Mirai hated people like that, people who could see past their own abilities and expected others to fall in the same place as they do. Mirai was more than happy to make a scene and make those people just as uncomfortable as they made him, or even more so if need be.
After the accident, the doctors told him he was lucky to be alive, let alone be able to walk, but that didn’t mean it still didn’t hurt when he was reminded of his disabilities, what he had lost, who he had lost. But Mirai was trying his hardest, he always was, but to many, that wasn’t enough, and he hated it. Some nights his back pain kept him up, and sometimes it was too much to bear that he couldn’t get up in the morning, and there was nothing he could do about it. So Mirai put up with it, he dealt with the pain, he dealt with walking with that crooked gait, he dealt with having to live with his scars, he dealt with not being able to sit up straight, he dealt with his partial blindness and the pain that accompanied it. Mirai dealt with it all.
Mirai scrubbed at his eyes with his sleeves as he jogged, and as time went on, he ended up taking the rear with Idia who dragged his feet as he jogged, huffing and puffing like he ran a marathon. Mirai was only midway through with his second lap, when the majority of the class was already done with their laps, waiting on the stragglers. Mirai and Idia were two of them. Idia slowed his efforts, jogging to match Mirai’s pace, clapping a hand on Mirai’s shoulder. Idia didn’t say anything, but the look on his face was enough for Mirai to get the message. And after a while, Cater slowed as well. The three jogged at a leisurely pace, the only ones left doing their laps.
“Come one you three,” Coach Vargas yelled, “we don’t have all day!”
“I don’t know what more you want me to do, besides keel over,” Mirai sneered quietly.
Idia snickered, “That doesn’t sound too bad right now.”
“Anything but this sounds good right now,” Cater huffed.
Much to Coach Vargas’ chagrin, the three kept their slower pace and finished their laps together. Coach Vargas went on a tangent on muscles or something, Mirai didn’t care at this point. All he wanted was to change out of his gym clothes and shower.
“Okay everyone,” Coach Vargas shouted, “time for flight practice. Grab your partner and grab a broom.”
While everyone else grabbed their broom, Mirai sighed in relief as he wandered off to the nearest shaded spot and sat down. Since Mirai couldn’t fly, he didn’t have to do anything, but Grim could, so Cater helped him. But after Grim’s protests, and refusal for help, Cater went and did his own thing, standing on the handle as he did tricks and flips on it.
“I realize that you fly like you’re riding a skateboard,” Mirai chuckled as Cater did a mock kickflip with his broom.
Cater laughed, “Technically, we’re supposed to sit, but Coach stopped caring after a lot of the upperclassmen started flying the way they wanted to.”
“What’s it like, to fly, that is?”
“It’s like,” Cater started, getting off the broom to sit next to Mirai on the grass, “It’s like, freeing I guess. Like NGL, my first time on the broom was terrible and it wasn’t easy, but it’s fun now. And the worst part is the bugs. Like imagine flying, sun on your face, wind in your hair, and then suddenly getting a mouthful of bugs, #Gross.”
Mirai cackled, throwing his head back, “Sounds traumatic.”
Suddenly Grim’s tiny broom launched itself across the field, with a terrified Grim hanging from the bristles for dear life.
“Grim,” Mirai and Cater shouted, chasing after him.
After gym class was over, the class made their way back to the locker room, and when a big group of students passed Mirai in a race to change out, a large hand made its way into his hair, ruffling his shaggy blonde strands. Mirai jumped in surprise, his head whipping around to find the culprit, and when he did, he didn’t expect to see Coach Vargas standing next to him. Coach Vargas didn’t say anything but the look on his face said it all. Mirai nodded at him, and Coach Vargas seemed to visibly relax with a sigh, the man tension in his body melting away. With that, Coach Vargas jogged off to his office, and Mirai passed that day with full credit.
After classes Mirai cleaned up around Ramshackle, ate, and showered. The last thing he now had to do was do his homework, and like always, he struggled. In his current unit in Magic history and Potionology, there’s a sub unit about the stars, but he couldn’t get this world's ideology. Magic from the stars, wishes, it was all Greek to Mirai. So he had decided to ask Cater for help with his homework, the entire topic going over his head, and the Heartslabyul third year was more than willing to help, telling the Ramshackle Prefect to meet him outside the Hall of Mirrors.
It was late, the wind cold and punishing, and Cater was late, not even at their meeting place when he was the closest out of the two of them. Mirai was starting to regret asking in general, it was cold, dark, and the ways the trees blew in the breeze were starting to give him horror movie vibes. Mirai checked his phone over and over for a text that their plans were canceled, or if Cater was going to be late, there was nothing. Mirai was just about ready to head home, when something obscenely large flew past him, the gust picking up grass and dirt. Mirai froze, his heart pounding in his chest, whatever it was, it was fast, too fast. He backed himself up to the door of the Hall of Mirrors, eyes darting around, looking for whatever it was, hoping it wasn’t some deadly Isle of Sages beast.
Suddenly it was back, flying by like a flash. All Mirai could see was the ugliest orange, black and brown blurb, and its voice was horrendous. Mirai gasped, his hand blindly searching for the knob of the door. Maybe he’d just go to Heartslabyul himself and have Cater walk him home, or better, just sleep over.
“Aw. What’s got you shaking in your boots, Boo?”
Mirai yelped, head whipping around, looking for Cater, but he didn’t see him.
“Cut it out, Cater,” Mirai huffed, “This isn’t funny.”
There was silence, and Mirai still didn’t see Cater or the thing. He just wanted to go home. Suddenly Mirai was face to face with Cater. Mirai yelped, eyes going wide. Cater was hanging upside down on his broom, his strawberry blonde waves hanging down in Mirai’s face.
“C-Cater?!” Mirai gasped.
Cater didn’t say anything as he leaned forward, pressing a kiss to Mirai’s trembling lips. It was short and sweet, and it definitely calmed Mirai down a bit. “Better?” Cater cooed.
Mirai was momentarily dazed from the kiss before his face morphed into anger.
“You bastard,” Mirai shouted. “You frickin’ scared me! I thought, I thought…”
Mirai’s argument died on his lips, frustration and the lack of adrenaline washing over him, and now that he knew he was safe, and there was no monster, he felt stupid.
Cater lowered himself to the ground, sitting up to slide off the broom to hold Mirai. “You mad at me?” Cater asked, lips pouty, making his words sound childish.
“No,” Mirai gruffed.
“Yes you are.”
Mirai shook his head.
“Sorry for scaring you,” Cater muttered, holding Mirai tighter.
“It’s fine, doesn't matter anymore. Just, just, let’s just go. It’s cold.”
Cater chuckled, kissing Mirai on the forehead.
Mirai turned to go back to the Hall of Mirrors when Cater caught his shoulder.
“Where you going?” Cater laughed, “Get on.”
“Hu-Huh?” Mirai stuttered, whipping his head around to meet Cater’s eye.
“Get on,” Cater repeated, patting the space behind him.
“But, but, I thought, I thought we were going to study?”
“We are, but just not at the dorm.”
Mirai inched his way to the broom, not sure about the idea. Was this against the rules? Was this allowed? In the grand scheme of things, Mirai didn’t care for rules, he just didn't want Cater to get in trouble.
“C’mon. You’ll be fine. Promise,” Cater reassured.
Mirai tentatively swung his leg over the broom, making sure he was seated as he ever would be on a broom, and held onto Cater tightly.
“You ready, Sugarplum?” Cater asked, running a thumb along the back of Mirai’s hand.
Mirai nodded against Cater’s back.
“And we’re off!”
Mirai kept his eyes shut tightly, and as he felt his toes lift off the ground, he clutched Cater even tighter.
“You’re okay, Baby,” Cater cooed, “I gotcha.”
Mirai could feel the atmosphere change, the wind picking up a bit, the force pushing against his legs. Mirai could tell they weren’t going too fast, but he was afraid to look. Just the sheer fact that one wrong move could send them hurtling towards the ground had Mirai stomach in knots.
“Babe, look,” Cater whispered.
Mirai shook his head, much preferring to stay where he was, trapped in Cater’s soft shirt and his scent.
“C’mon, Baby. We’re not even moving.”
They weren’t moving were they? Mirai slowly moved his face from Cater’s back, and slowly peeked an eye open. Mirai was taken aback, glad he opened his eyes, or he would’ve missed the mesmerizing sight in front of him. The campus looked as if it was from a storybook. It was lit up, the magestone lights casting everything in a warm golden glow. Fireflies danced in the night, flickering as they bounced to and fro. To put it in simpler terms, it was magical, although, this world actually was.
Cater looked at Mirai’s awed expression fondly, the lights reflecting off his features. Cater, as quickly and effectively, took his phone out of his packet and snapped a pic.
“Wanna try moving a bit?” Cater asked, pocketing his phone.
Mirai nodded his head determinedly, Mn.”
“Alright, let's start slow.”
Cater continued on, their pace slow. It kinda reminded Mirai of the pace of an escalator, slow and steady. It was nice, Mirai got to see the campus from a totally different point of view, but it was getting boring fast.
“You can go faster,” Mirai muttered, scooting closer to Cater to hold him tight.
“Okie dokie,” Cater winked, and not a second later, they picked up speed.
They were going fast, like really fast. Mirai yelped, shoving his face into Cater’s blazer once more, and Cater laughed. They sped through campus, going around lamp posts, in between trees, and over buildings. It remained Mirai driving a motorbike, but instead, it was much faster and instead of being safely on the ground, they were suspended many feet in the air. It was like Cater said, it was freeing, it made Mirai feel like he could do anything. After they flew around a bit more, they soon came to a stop, the broom settling down to land. Mirai opened his eyes and they were on one of the exterior hallways on the second floor.
“Where are we going?” Mirai asked, as he followed.
“You’ll see,” Cater sang.
They continued their walk, it was a short one, and as the hallway opened up, a large dome-like building came into view.
“Is that, is that an observatory?” Mirai asked in awe.
“Bingo,” Cater chirped.
Cater led them to the door. It was rounded at the top, and split two ways down the middle. But what caught Mirai’s eye was on the doors. There were knobs, dials, and gears of sorts, it all looked too complicated to figure out.
“What’s this? Some kinda advanced lock?” Mirai asked, running his fingers along the ornate designing of the metal doors.
“Kinda,” Cater smiled, “But it’s not that hard to figure out.”
Cater pulled on the knobs, turning, rotating, sliding, and pushing, and as he did, the gears moved and clicked. Mirai watched with rapt attention as Cater fiddled with the door, it seemed it only worked in a certain order. Soon there was a click, a click that sounded much different from the others, and then the metal doors were sliding open.
“That was so cool,” Mira gushed. “How’d you do it?! What are you?! Some kind of wizard or something?!”
Cater cackled, “I mean, Cay-Cay kinda already is. But it’s all memorization at this point.”
Mirai followed Cater inside, and the doors slowly slid closed behind them. Cater placed the broom against the wall, and took out his magic pen, waving it and suddenly, the room came to life.
“Welcome to the Observatory,” Cater chirped.
Mirai was utterly speechless. He didn’t know what to do, to say, all he could do was sit there and stare at the jaw dropping sights in front of him. It was mesmerizing. The room was covered in a warm gold glow, charts and diagrams were etched into the stone walls. The ceiling was gorgeous, it was dark blue and covered in stars and constellations that seemed to twinkle and move like they were the real things. But what Mirai was most intrigued about was the huge astrolabe-like object in the center of the room.
“What’s that?” Mirai asked Cater, cocking a thumb at the object.
“That’s an Orrery,” Cater supplied. “It’s a model of the solar system.”
“So not an Astrolabe. Got it.”
“Not quite,” Cater chuckled.
“And what do those mean?” Mirai pointed to the walls.
“Celestial navigation charts. They help with that star chart on the ceiling.”
“So cool.”
Mirai was in awe, he felt as if he was in a video game. I mean, at this point, Mirai wasn’t sure if he would ever get used to the amazing places and things people would dream to actually experience back at home, but sometimes, Mirai forgot actually how magical this world was.
“So,” Cater said, and suddenly a large spell circle lit up underneath him, “what can Cay-Cay help his amazing boyfriend with?”
Mirai lost track of how much they spent in the Observatory, but how couldn’t he? This was the first time Mirai had seen this side of Cater. He was just so animated, something he never saw in Cater unless he was talking about music or Magicam. And his knowledge on the subject, it was better than any teacher Mirai ever had. Cater not only helped Mirai with his assignment, but he also gave him a history lesson as well. And the way Cater knew all the machinery like the back of his hand, Mirai could tell that Cater spent a lot of time in the room.
After they had finished, Cater led the two of them out the Observatory and back into the cool night. The ride back to Ramshackle was short and to be frank, Mirai was kinda sad about it, he likes spending time with Cater.
“Now arriving at Ramshackle Dorm,” Cater said, pretending to speak through an intercom, “Please stay seated until the broom comes to a complete stop.”
“You’re silly,” Mirai chuckled.
“Thank you for flying with Diamond Airlines. Please fly with us again,” Cater laughed, helping Mirai off the broom.
“And what do I owe you, Mr. Pilot,” Mirai asked teasingly.
“Hmm,” Cater hummed in mock thought, tapping a finger to his chin. “I think a kiss would suffice.”
Cater met Mirai halfway, pulling the Ramshackle Prefect into his arms as he placed a soft kiss to his lips.
“There we go,” Cater chuckled, pulling back. “Now go get some sleep, it’s late.”
Mirai pouted but let Cater go.
“Night, Baby,” Cater cooed, waving.
“Night, Cater,” Mirai waved, going inside.
A couple of days passed and Mirai and Grim were hanging out at the Heartslabyul Dorm. Trey needed a couple of taste testers for a new Macaroon flavor he was trying, and Grim was more than happy to eat something. Mirai on the other hand aced his assignment, and wanted to show Cater. Mirai didn’t think he’d ever complete that assignment without his help, and wanted to thank him for it.
“Where’s Cater?” Mirai asked, helping Trey clean up.
“I don’t know,” Trey said thoughtfully. “But I’d either check our room, or the balcony.”
“The balcony?”
“Yeah. We have two balconies. A big one on the third floor, and a smaller one on the fourth floor. Cater likes to sit on the smaller one from time to time.”
“Alright, I’ll check there then,” Mirai said. “Grim, you coming?”
Mirai looked over to the cat to find him stuffing his furry face with all the leftover Macaroons.
“I guess not,” Mirai laughed. “Stay out of trouble, yeah?”
Grim nodded frantically, taking a sip of his glass of milk.
“Bye Trey, see you later,” Mirai waved. “And thank you.”
“Have fun, and thank you,” Trey chuckled.
Mirai went to the upperclassmen hallways and checked Cater’s room. After Mirai knocked a couple of times, without an answer, Mirai went to find the balcony. After asking a couple of Heartslabyul students for the right way to go, the stairs to the balcony weren’t hard to find. Mirai climbed the stairs and opened the door slightly, peeking his head around the corner. Leaning against the railing was Cater, and surprisingly, his phone was off in his hand. He looked so peaceful standing there, and Mirai was second guessing going up there. He didn’t want to disturb Cater’s time by himself.
“You spying on me?”
Mirai jumped with a shout and turned around to see Cater standing behind him.
“H-Huh, w-wha, ho-how did, weren't you-”
Cater chuckled at Mirai’s confusion.
Mirai pouted, “I-I wasn’t spying. I just didn’t want to bother you.”
“Aw, Hon, you could never bother me,” Cater cooed.
Suddenly the door opened and the Cater Mirai had been talking to had dissipated into fluttering playing cards. Cater took Mirai by the hand and led him outside. It wasn’t too cold, or too hot, the night air was warm and pleasant. It reminded Mirai of a nice summer’s night.
“What’s up, Buttercup?” Cater asked. “Did you miss little ol’ me?”
“Well, not that I’d say no, but I wanted to show you my grade,” Mirai said, pulling out his phone. “Look! I passed!”
“What kinda junior would I be if I couldn’t help one of my adorable freshies out?”
“You’d still be my favorite,” Mirai smiled.
“Aw, it was nothing,” Cater said, fiddling with his bangs.
Mirai giggled, reaching up to kiss Cater on the cheek, “And thank you.”
“Now aren’t you sweet,” Cater gushed dramatically, pulling Mirai into his arms. “You’re making Cay-Cay’s poor little heart go swoon!”
“And you act like that’s a bad thing.”
“Never said it was,” Cater smirked.
Mirai laughed.
“Oh,” Cater said, suddenly perking up, “So, like, after that day I helped you, I looked into your Astrology sign, and it turns out Geminis and Aquarius' are totes compatible.”
“Are we now?”
“Like, it’s so close to one hundred percent! It says our relationships are strong, and lasting, we always have interesting things to do, and we complement each other perfectly. Like talk about #Soulmates!”
Mirai loved how animated and happy Cater got when talking about the things he liked, but honestly, Astrology? Mirai and Astrology didn’t mix. He’d seen it all back home. In America it was all the craze for the majority of the girls in his class. Crystals this, Astrology signs that, and don’t let one of them find out you and her weren’t compatible, they’d make it their mission to never get along with you at all. It was ridiculous! How could one truly believe they were controlled by random balls of gas in space? Then they’d use their sign to defend their toxic behavior. But I guess that worked out for Mirai in the end, then he’d know which girls to avoid himself.
“Would you, would you still like me even if we weren’t?” Mirai asked quietly.
Cater looked surprised, “Still like you? Why wouldn’t I like you?”
“Would you still go out with me even if we weren’t compatible, that is?”
“That’s like asking if I’d still love you if your hair was neon green?”
Mirai still didn’t look convinced, and Cater sighed, running his hand up and behind Mirai’s ear, his long finger threading between long blonde strands, “Baby, we could have the worst compatibility ever, and I’d still choose you. We could be destined to never work out, and I’d still find a way. The compatibility thing is just like a bonus, ya’know?”
“Ok,” Mirai muttered.
“Kinda like finding out we have the same movie interests, or similar hobbies. In the grand scheme of things, it kinda means nothing, people are bound to have different interests, but it still doesn’t mean that it doesn’t feel good when you find out.”
“Yeah, I guess.”
“Still upset?”
“No,” Mirai pouted.
“I don’t know,” Cater teased, “Still looks pretty pouty to me.”
“I am not.”
“C’mon, give me a smile. Smile for little ol’ me.”
Cater leaned down and pressed a chaste kiss to Mirai’s lips and he instantly smiled.
“There we go. The prettiest smile in the world,” Cater gushed affectionately.
Mirai snickered, “You always taste like cherry chapstick.”
Cater went a little pink at that, “Do you not like it?”
“No, I do,” Mirai whispered, standing on his toes to kiss Cater again. “I don’t think I can ever taste cherry chapstick without ever thinking of you again.”
“Good,” Cater muttered against Mirai’s lips, “I want you to think of me even when we’re apart.”
“You’re always on my mind.”
Cater flushed a pretty pink, whining as he shoved his face into Mirai’s neck, and Mirai chuckled quietly.
“Why are you so cute?” Cater whined. “This is so not good for my poor old heart.”
“Um, hello? Have you seen yourself in the mirror? You’re the cute one,” Mirai laughed.
“No, no, it’s totally you, baby.”
Mirai pouted, but didn’t say anything else.
There was a comfortable silence between the two of them, the two of them just enjoying each other’s company. Mirai liked moment’s like this, just being with Cater was enough. He liked the scent of Cater’s cologne, he liked being in Cater’s arms, he liked the feeling Cater gave him. It made him feel wanted.
“Hey, Cater?” Mirai called.
“What’s up, Sugarplum?” Cater asked, looking down at Mirai.
“Will you tell me about the stars again?”
“Of course.”
Cater told him about the stars, stars Mirai knew, stars he didn’t know, even the stars that were exclusive to Twisted Wonderland. He told him their stories, their meanings, and little facts that weren’t known to the common person. Cater told Mirai of their histories, what they were named, why they were named, who named them, when they were discovered, everything. And Mirai listened, and listened, and listened. He listened because it was interesting, he listened because it was Cater, he listened because he cared. And he did care, so much, so much that it hurt.
So they sat, side by side, legs swinging off the balcony through the ornate metal bars. Every so often, their shoulders would bump, and fingers would brush against each other, and sometime during the moment, their hands ended up laced together with Mirai's body relaxed into Cater’s form. And the whole time, the bright stars continued to shine in the clear night sky above.

SSR Lilia Vanrouge - Platinum Jacket Voice Lines
When Summoned: So, this museum has reached its 100th anniversary, huh. Guess the next goal is the 200th anniversary!
Summon Line: Now that I've been chosen as a supporter, there'll never be a boring moment. Now then, let's enjoy a fantastic time together.
Groooovy!!: I don't deny understanding their excitement over a sleeping child, but... Can't say diurnal faes and I are compatible in general, though.
Home: Congratulations on 100 years!
Home Idle 1: According to Cater, there were times the Queen of Hearts would get excited over having cake. Looks like she had a cute side, too.
Home Idle 2: Ruggie was looking at the painting of oysters with a hungry stare. I think he's more interested in his appetite than enjoying art.
Home Idle 3: Perhaps it's because I saw that painting of that young lion singing happily with his friends, but... Now I feel like rocking out on my beloved five-string bass!
Home Idle - Login: No one is more knowledgeable about the Thorn Fairy than I. You can leave it to me to explain each painting.
Home Idle - Groovy: After I gave Epel an in-depth talk on the Thorn Fairy, he was very intently looking at her paintings. Ain't I an awesome guide?
Home Tap 1: If you don't know which exhibit to start with, why don't you come look around with me? After all, I'm a supporter of the museum. Mhm!
Home Tap 2: If you see Silver standing in front of a painting for a long while, call out to him for me. There's a high possibility he might be sleeping...
Home Tap 3: Don't you think the Thorn Fairy's subordinates all have something charming about them? As a cutie myself, I can't help but feel an affinity with them.
Home Tap 4: I hear that the Sorcerer of the Sands' familiar was a wonderfully chatty parrot. There's no way he'd beat me when it comes to casual conversation, though!
Home Tap 5: I get why you'd get all excited over me in formal dress, but don't poke me, now. Hm? You were just pointing out that my ribbon was crooked?
Home Tap - Groovy: I thought about buying a shirt from the shop with a painting printed on the front as a gift for myself... Can you pick out the best one for me?
Duo: [LILIA]: Epel, to victory! [EPEL]: It's as good as ours, Lilia-san!
Birthday Login Message: You came all the way out here to wish me a happy birthday? You have my thanks, [Yuu]. What would I like for a present? It's fine, you don't have to worry yourself about it. But if I really had to pick something, I suppose... I'd like to hear about your hometown. It would be fun to hear stories from a place that I know nothing about. There's no way I'll be letting you sleep tonight~!

extremely late 400 followers sneak peek!!
the time to unlock the final coffin has arrived. with bated breath, dire crowley prowls forward. his lips are pressed into an unusually straight line, with no traces of his lively and rather theatrical personality. the dark mirror hums and its inky black darkness fades away to reveal the white mask.
"he has arrived," it speaks with a grave rasp. "is night raven college ready for him?"
hundreds of students burst into rambunctious noise. they shout over one another, proclaiming that they are the chosen ones to attend a prestigious arcane academy, who could they be to intimidate them? they, who would be nourished and nurtured to be the greatest villains of their age?
crowley sighs. "i do not know, mirror. i fear not."
lilia vanrouge hums in interest and his magenta eyes glow with intrigue. similarly, rook hunt smirks and a hand comes to bend his hood to hide the sparkle in his eyes.
the headmaster presses his key into the lock and twists it sharply. the crack echoes in the acoustic halls and the creaking of the coffin door opening is deafening in the silence.
"i'm here," the voice is smooth and deep. the stranger sits up and his hood falls to reveal ashen grey hair and sharp light navy irises. "at last."
the silence continues for a couple of seconds. only someone who had lived underneath a rock wouldn't know the boy. the stranger steps out of the coffin gracefully, taking crowley's outstretched hand before walking towards the dark mirror. he walks with confidence yet there is something dangerous about his aura that makes the students in his way flinch. he parts the crowd and a pathway is made directly leading to the mask with soulless eyes.
"speak your name."
his aura blossoms outwards, suffocating the students with the eerie feeling. he's dangerous, it warns. he's venomous. he's someone to be feared. he's not someone to be messing around with. he will have blood on his hands.
"my name is caelum lupin celestial, moonlight of the heavens and the firstborn child of my generation," caelum speaks as if no one in the hall doesn't know who he is.
the mirror is silent beflre flashing a couple of pictures. it's rumored to be prophetic and it proves the rumor right. its inky surface shimmers before it is replaced with a couple of pictures:
a sun being eclipsed by the moon. a katana and a rapier clashing together in a flurry of sparks. and last but not least:
grey eyes, mirroring the strangers, glinting with a warning. they mirrored the shade of the katana's blade in both literal and metaphorical meanings...death and danger. they say the eyes are the windows to the soul and caelum's soul is dancing with death.

ooooo I haven't heard of the hearing your soulmate's thoughts one that sounds really neat 👀 That begs the question if soulmates can hear each other's thoughts ALL the time, only on certain times (like if they give permission or smth), or only when they're in proximity of each other (and the range extends the stronger your bond with your soulmate is!!!)
LILIA AND READER FEELING EACH OTHER'S PAIN OUGHHHHH. This can be either really angsty or really funny.
As you grow up you become familiar with the feeling of pain reallyyyyy quickly to the point that you get used to it. It grows less frequent and more painful over time, and you can't help feeling annoyed and wondering just what the hell your soulmate is up to to keep getting hurt so much.
Imagine if it was Enemy Generals to Lovers though... During war with the fae you find out that your soulmate is your enemy, General Vanrouge. Just your luck. He also figures this out of course. Of course, neither of you are too keen on being friends or lovers, but still you end up staying out of each other's way because obviously neither of you want to inflict pain on yourselves by hurting the other in fights. The two of you do though, in bouts of pettiness, purposely injure yourselves just to annoy the other.
More thoughts below the cut about Soulmates!Malleyuu hearing each other's thoughts because I got a bit too carried away oopsie??
I really like the proximity one. If we're going with the canon timeline, I can imagine that when you first arrived in Twst, you randomly hear a faint thought in your head that's not yours and interrupts your current line of thinking. It disappears before you can process it and you're left wondering if you imagined it.
Meanwhile when Malleus's thoughts gets interrupted by yours out of the blue he's like "Who DARES break through my magical mental barriers and intrude on my privacy as well as interrupt my gargoyle brainrot?!" but of course it disappears before he can identify who because you go out of range. Malleus tells Lilia about this, worried that someone might be trying to intrude on his private thoughts and that they had momentarily succeeded, but Lilia puts the pieces together (because logically no one at the school can bypass Malleus's personal wards) and reminds him about soulmates. He breaks into a fit of laughter at Malleus's dumbfounded expression. He had been so caught up on how unusual the occurrence was that the thought of him having come within the range of his soulmate link had completely flown over his head.
So Malleus goes on the hunt. His soulmate!! Here!! At the school!! His grandmother had told him that soulmates are very important to dragons, that each Draconia before him had found their soulmate and from the moment they met they had remained by each other's side. It was a bit hard for Malleus to wrap his head around. Someone who stuck around him? A friend or a lover? Forever? He couldn't believe it so he wanted to see for himself.
After a long day of fruitless searching, Malleus goes to Ramshackle Dorm, his favourite place on campus, to relax and think. Meanwhile, you wake up from a restless sleep to an unfamiliar voice murmuring in the back of you mind. You see someone loitering outside the dorm, so you go outside to see who it is and the voice gets louder. Puzzled thoughts run through your head and the stranger whirls around and your eyes meet.
This is my soulmate. The thought is whispered breathlessly in both of your heads and neither of you can tell whose it was.
Malleus is frozen in place, stunned, suddenly unsure of what to do or what to say because he hadn't thought about what to do when he actually found them—!
You say hello, your eyes alight with excitement, wonder, and curiosity, a shy but eager smile lifting the corners of of your lips. Malleus is floored. He hadn't expected such... acceptance. You open your mouth—
You ask his name.
Malleus realises you have no idea who he is. He also realises that it's favourable, because you're not afraid of him. You just see him as your soulmate and your friend, and that's all he is to you. He realises that he likes it. A lot. Being treated like a normal person. Having someone so comfortable around him.
So now Malleus has to be careful with what he thinks about every time you're within range, which is harder than it sounds when he discovers that he loves being close to you and you to him. Somehow though, you spend a pretty long time being completely oblivious to his true identity, but when you do find out it turns out that Malleus had been worried over nothing of course and nothing changes between you two (except for feelings eventually blossoming, of course.)
Hello Michelle InternSeraph it's me again Matcha twstjam brought to you by Malleyuu brainrot again 👉👈
So I was reading a completely unrelated fic and it was like, a soulmate au so now I'm like "omg they were soulmates......." but Malleyuu yaknow?? There's already a few up on ao3 but they don't quite scratch the itch in my brain so I come before you again for your thoughts on it.
And if any ideas strike maybe even Liliyuu soulmate scenarios too bcs I feel like those could be really neat too 🤔
(As I wrote this I remembered this one Soulmate AU trope where a goose would randomly show up in your life and chase you until you run into your soulmate and I just. Imagine Malleus, a dragon, the crown prince of Briar Valley, and one of the most powerful mages of the world, being bullied by a magic soulmate goose agdjdghfhdks)
MAGIC SOULMATE GOOSE... the shenanigans.........
anyways here're some ideas:
i think for malleyuu the "being able to hear your soulmate's thoughts" trope could work well esp if we're maintaining the idea of malleus hiding his identity from yuu for as long as possible :0 or maybe even hearing your thoughts in your soulmate's voice — there's an aspect of questioning "is this really my soulmate or does he just sound similar?"
LILIYUU SOULMATES. FEELING EACH OTHER'S PAIN. works esp well with general lilia but also considering how lilia is faring in book 7 just. imagine the angst potential. there's also "whatever you draw on yourself shows up on your soulmate as well" which could be really cute and fluffy :>
#agshgdhdgd I hope you don't mind me taking this as an excuse to ramble seraph 👉👈#reblog#matcha nonsense#matcha writes a bit#malleus draconia#malleyuu#prefect yuu#ramshackle prefect#lilia vanrouge#liliyuu#twst yuu#twst mc

comments: this is the past!lilia you all were expecting. this will counter the present lilia as this is my interpretation or AT LEAST is what and how lilia, silver, sebek, and malleus interpreted lilia in the past. placed this under PM instead of AM (can still be classified as SFW) since it's still NSFW with the mentions in the warnings below.
WARNINGS: violence, mentions of blood and injuries, mentions of weaponry (sword, bombs, etc.), d/s dynamics, slight manhandling, mad lilia is already a warning on its own. trying to make this as gender neutral as possible! no smut or the like.
“Tell me about the stability of these gentlemen, doctor. Only then, we’ll call it a day.”
"There are at least a hundred new recruits that are planning to be enlisted as of today, General Vanrouge. You might be disappointed with the results," the military doctor spoke, walking side-by-side with the general while he flipped through the lists of subordinates.
"And why must that be?" questioned Lilia as he analyzed the printed faces of young faes. Alphas, that's what he's expecting in the field. At the most, the strongest in their recruit. The division is not in need of weaklings.
"You see—" the doctor took the papers from the general, "—most of the recruits are betas. Some are even mere rookies. Lacking in discipline I tell you."
Lilia gripped on the hilt of his sword in dismay, "Albeit, I am not even surprised." He sighed and walked outside to the training field.
"Stability, doctor. Let's ignore their position. It's out of our control. What I want—" he faced the doctor who gripped the papers to his chest. Lilia, the strongest alpha in the frontlines, narrowed his eyes at the innocent fae, "—is their mental capability. I can train them in where they lack. However—"
Unfortunately enough, could this day get any worse for the already annoyed fae, a bomb exploded at the distance. Startling people left and right, some even flinching and running away while Lilia's eyebrows immediately arched downwards.
"These brats," he spat.
The doctor, who's a mere beta himself, could smell the irritation radiate from the general even as he's walking farther away from him. He pulled on the collar of his uniform and gulped, praying to Her Majesty Draconia that her own trusted soldier would calm down.
His temper is not one that should be mocked about.
"Agent y/n was on that field! We need immediate response!" yelled a sergeant.
"So much for these new recruits," gulped the doctor once more.
While his heeled boots stomped on the musky soil of the Earth, Lilia was in no mood to participate in idle chitchat. He listened very carefully to the panicked and fearful voice of soldiers left and right. His nose being able to identify their pheromones, trying to detect that one scent within the crowd.
After all, hearing just the name of the alleged victim was enough to make his veins pump in adrenaline.
"Are they okay?"
"What happened? Wasn't Agent y/n observing the trainees?"
"Good grief, thankfully it didn't ignite the other explosives."
"Stand back!" roared Lilia as the new recruits scurried instantly, with no hesitance, to stand tall in a straight line.
There was black smoke that scattered among the atmosphere on where the explosion happened. A small-caliber projectile exploded due to reckless behavior along with incautious treatment — not much of a big deal when it comes to Lilia just as long as no one's injured. A simple snap of his fingers was enough as the smoke turned into nothing and on the ground is where you laid.
The agent.
Naturally, the scent of fumes was still present in the atmosphere despite the lack of the cloudy smoke; that did not stop the beta recruits (and some omegas, even alphas) from having their heartbeats palpitate at the frightening scent the general was exhausting. It was strong. Definitely dominant.
You were coughing and wheezing from the explosion. Admittedly, you were careless enough yourself as you instinctly jumped and tried to defuse the explosion only for it to explode on your face and throw you on the ground. It hurt but it wasn't deadly. That is, if the general wasn't present at the moment.
You felt a tight and firm grip on your arm that pulled you up to your legs. You are an omega and yet you stood at one of the highest positions in the military. Coughing out the remnants of the smoke in your lungs, you reckoned you are covered in ash and dirt at the moment, not really professionally sightly.
"Thank you—" you mumbled only to gain more of your senses when you heard his booming voice.
"You bloody hellbounds are better off with your hands tied behind your back and jaws in a muzzle." He gritted his teeth, glaring at the recruits who looked like their life is at stake. So much for being an aspiring frontliner.
"Back to your pens and see to it that you're better off punished and kneeling when I come back." Lilia's eyes followed the sergeants that mercilessly ordered — some even ushered — the recruits back to their stations.
"Sir, I'm fine. Let's keep your head levelled, shall we?." You coughed, once, and gently let your pheromones dominate — or try to — his endearing one. It was getting to you as well. Feeling your own heart beat faster and your eyes grow hazy. Hopefully, this would not activate a spontaneous heat despite your continuous intakes of suppressants.
"Keep your lips sealed, y/n. You're not in a stable position." Lilia tried to steady his voice and you still hear the authority in them. "To let an agent of your standing get easily injured over some mild explosion..." he rattled on while he hooked his arms under your legs and bounced you in his arms.
"The least I could do is to refrain you from going feral. You could've—" You coughed. "—could've hit them or blast them off with your magic or something then we'll be in for more trouble." You hooked at arm around his neck as he walked over to the infirmary.
He was terrifying, indeed. Everyone held high respects for the general. Most especially when it came to omegas like you. The ratio of omegas from the alphas and betas in the field was not that big. However, those of your kind hold high importance to the frontliners — even one that can calm the mightiest of alphas.
"I said keep your lips shut."
You exhaled a chuckle through your nose and laid your head on his shoulder. Hearing the clanks of his pins and letting your fingers trail through the hilt of his sword. He doesn't scare you, at least not in this case. "Yes, sir."
Not even now that it's been centuries since you last saw a scowl on his face.
"Again, really?" came forth Lilia, with now a shorter stature and hair painted in pink and black. Arms crossed and an eyebrow arched as he eyed you in one of biggest lakes in Briar Valley.
You simply laughed pushed back your hair. You fell into the lake, that was it. No injuries, just a simple accident that Lilia is no surprise you're very vulnerable to. "At least it's not a bomb this time."
"A...bomb?" Silver questioned as he glanced at you and Lilia as if he's watching the ball bounce in a tennis match. He stepped on a log and reached his hand out to you to which you grabbed and now hoisted back on the wooden deck.
"Long story, my boy." the elder fae shook is head with a grin in his face. "It's a story for another time."
"Ah," you hummed, "Then should I keep my lips shut until then?"
