So @espressoth and I have been yelling on and off about King!Gavin x General-Turned-Boyfrend-Slash-Advisor!Lasko

Something something wars between humans and demons that ended before Lasko was in the military but there’s still unrest, he’s a well-known general who gets badly injured and whoever was in charge decided to “gift” him to a neighboring king in hopes of earning favor--which ends poorly for him; Gavin doesn’t appreciate trading in lives, especially after he learns what the guy said to an upset and injured Lasko just before sending him off: “Cheer up, Moore. There are worse things than being an incubus’ toy.”

Which is exactly what Lasko expected to be: a member of a harem, a plaything for a careless monarch.

So he’s surprised when Gavin makes exactly zero moves on him, instead keeping a respectful distance and making sure he has hot baths and fresh meals and nice clothes and a soft bed and a prosthetic that fits properly. Eventually, Lasko confronts him about his supposed purpose; Gavin cheerfully informs him that, while he would love to know Lasko carnally, there’s no point if Lasko isn’t interested. Lasko shyly replies that he’s not not interested.

Theses are pretty oc but yeah

- Damien: fucked up hands, they lock up when he writes to long. hes developing carpel tunnel :// (same)

- Huxley: really enjoys collected those small glass sculptures of animals, he’s got a small shelf for all of them. His favorite is a tiny tocan his mom made in a shop class

- lasko: homestuck nerd.

- Gavin: have you ever seen a man whose personality embodies strawberry lemonade? Because that’s his favorite flavor he has his own flavor packets he carries with him

- freelancer: selectively mute, they often just do not speak and uses a form of sign language to communicate instead. They do know sign language tho just choose to use hand signals.

- David: this man has migraines. They’re light and sound caused and it really doesn’t help that he’s constantly stressed. He has blackout curtains and permanent scowl wrinkles on his brows from holding tension

- Asher: figits and stims constantly. Forever stuck in a state of needing stimulation it makes his skin itch. He also has a large collection of figits his face is his infinity cube

- milo: allergic to feathers, no one really knows be he does. And the local crows do when he starts sneezing up a storm and they flap at him to harass him haha

-Angel: they have chronic pain, this is bc i headcannon them being an amputee and they often chill with David when he has migraines and they can’t walk. They calm each other

- babe: writing callouses on both hands their ambidextrous! They write and paint alot and you can tell immediately by the giant bumps on their middle finger :p

- sweetheart: they change how they look pretty often! Stealth’s have an affinity to morphing forms so it’s easier for them to change how they look in little ways. They often give themselves a few inches to piss off david

- Sam: can only make casseroles and pies. It’s like a curse but he’s not complaining his apple pie is practically ambrosia <33

- darling: from the foster system. Got placed in the pack and got really close to them for that reason, they miss gabe.

Frakes plays a friendly surfer/beach bum type who helps Kris when she's suffering from amnesia caused by a head injury sustained when she accidentally walks in on a homicide in progress.

Alright, I'll bite. (Sparked by this post) I'm gonna preface this with some context: 

First off: I'm Black in case you're unaware

Huxley is my favorite speaker. Full stop. You ask me to choose, it’ll always be him. 

Likewise, you ask for my favorite listeners, I will say Starlight and Darlin'. (I'll save my Starlight rant for another day)

My designs for both Huxley and Darlin are Black.

With this in mind, I want to be clear from the jump: I don’t have an inherent problem with these headcanons. If I did, I wouldn’t have chosen then myself. That said, I have noticed that Hux and Darlin are, more often than not, the characters that get headcanoned as POC (specifically Black) in design rosters. In some cases, they are the only POC designs present. Why is that?

Furthermore, the more often I notice this pattern so to speak, the more I sit and think about why those headcanons are so popular. I find my answer when I think about the characters I see headcanoned as white most often. Tell me why it’s "practically canon" for Lasko to be pale with light/white hair. Tell me why white Sam "just makes sense". Why? Because Lasko's a nerdy ball of nerves that stumbles over his words? Because Sam’s a sweet Southern man at heart? Those are not inherently white attributes.

Except they're treated as such. They go virtually unchallenged because they're so widely accepted by fandom. People see these personalities and character details and come up with their vision. So, let's apply that to Huxley and Darlin, shall we?

Huxley: Athlete. Canonically implied to be big, as indicated by statements made by him and other members of the DAMN crew. Classified as a himbo with parallels in Imperium highlighting how some will view him as stupid. Overall chill vibe.

Darlin: Reckless with their safety. Known to lash out/lose control of their emotions when they’re not actively hiding them. Gets injured often because they’re too stubborn to run from trouble. An overall intense demeanor that makes them difficult to approach (at least at first). 

Explain to me why this screams Black to so many people. Is it because Huxley's a dumb jock who you imagine gets stoned all the time? Oh, is it perhaps because Darlin is just so aggressive compared to your Golden Retriever-coded Asher, needing to be calmed down by everyone around them? And here's the thing: I can already imagine people saying, "That's not why I made them Black". Then explain why it "just makes sense" for them to Black. Why them out of a sea of characters? Make it make sense.

Now let me make this clear as well: I'm not expecting every headcanon to have elaborate thought behind it. For one, I get that some people take a more casual approach with designs and such. Not every choice has to have a reason or justification behind it. But when literally 95% of the Huxley designs I see are Black and half of y'all don't even know what a fucking durag is? Saying it leaves a bad taste in my mouth is putting it lightly.

You know what I wish I saw more of? Black Huxleys and Darlins with attached nuance.

Give me a Black Darlin who struggles to articulate how they feel with the people in their lives because they haven't been readily given the language to do so. You want to pair a Black Darlin with a White Sam? Why not talk about how POC have an insanely difficult time getting support from the medical system so not only does it explain why Darlin is so resistant to go to healers, but also gives an extra weight to the fact that Sam was their absolute last resort when injured? Give me a Black Darlin who has been taught their entire life that no one will have their back, that they need to learn how to depend on themself alone, and that's the reason why they struggle to feel like the pack would've cared when the Quinn shit went on.

You wanna talk Black Huxleys? Let's touch on how he's learned to control his emotions/anger because he knows how people will take it if it comes from someone who looks like him. Talk about how his moms teaching him not to use violence speaks to a deeper desire for him not to be viewed as a threat because they fear for his life otherwise. In one of his BAs, he mentions how a lot of people used to sleep with him/flirt with him solely because of his body and he could tell. Do you know how often black men are sexualized and fetishized? Why not talk about it through him? I see people explore that concept through Gavin constantly, where's the energy for Huxley? You wanna make him Black so bad, why not actually put some thought behind it? Because right now, it seems like he gets the "luxury" of being the token Black guy in the DAMN friend group at best.

I know a lot of people are probably going to dismiss this post. I am already anticipating that as I write this. But I'm so tired of pretending like this shit doesn't get to me. Because it does. I've got no intentions of leaving this fandom because I have met so many amazing people and adore Erik's content immensely. But what I am going to do is talk about the widespread normalization of attributing certain personality traits to certain racial groups. Because the non-white people in this fandom deserve better than that.

Hold Me Like a Grudge (Gavin x Lasko Royal AU) Ch. 1

Figured I should put this here for folks who don't have AO3/prefer Tumblr. (I usually post here first? Backward.)

The Kingdom of Dahlia was small but prosperous. It had remained independent for centuries despite numerous attempts by other nations to either annex or destroy it, a feat achieved due to its perfect location: guarded on three sides by impenetrable mountains, with abundant access to fresh water and rich soil, and protected on the final side by the legendary Dahlian military.

The military was set apart by its inclusion of magic users. While some other countries did count mages in their ranks, it was often with very tight restrictions, and they were frequently separated by type into specific units. Some countries disallowed mages from serving alongside "normal" troops, while others would only accept "pureblood" mages.

The Dahlian military was famous for accepting nearly all applicants, a practice which began in the kingdom's infancy, when they were a tiny, beleagured nation with little choice but to take anyone willing to fight. In Dahlia, if one was of age and able to carry a weapon, they could become a soldier. Empowered or non, pureblood or humanborn, all were free to protect their kingdom and people.

Patriots would have you believe that the same was true for civilians in Dahlia. That every individual was treated as an equal, worthy and important in their own right. But in actuality, it wasn't even true for every solider, try as their leaders might to make the image reality. Magic users of every kind were allowed to serve in any role, as long as they proved their abilities. Even daemons occasionally appeared in the ranks. But if one was unlucky, they may find themself under a small-minded commander with prejudices and the power to wield them.

Or, they might find themself tossed out of their home at a tender age when what might have been a joyous occasion for many--the manifestation of their magic--drove a wedge between them and their unempowered parents.

Lasko Moore, greatest general of his time, was one such child.

He was, for a time, his parents' pride and joy. Their only child, so gifted with math and art and history and technology it hardly mattered that he was nervous and struggled to make friends. Everyone assumed that he would wind up with a job at the university, teaching or administering or perhaps something mechanical.

His interest in the military was unexpected, but not unacceptable. After all, soldiers were well-respected and well-paid. Who wouldn't want a soldier for a son? Young Lasko was set to make his parents ever more proud.

Except for the magic thing.

He should have been happy. They should have been happy. Elementals were favored for their association with, and partial control of, the natural world. So why did they look disgusted? Why did they shout?

He tried to make them happy, or at least stop looking at him like he was some kind of invader in his own home. It was like a few years before, when he had casually mentioned liking boys, except somehow worse. Maybe because he could "pretend to be straight." He tried to "pretend to be unempowered," too, but his feelings affected his magic, and his magic affected his surroundings, and it finally became too much for all of them.

He left.

He joined the military academy a year early by claiming to be older than he was, a lie aided by his height and weary determination. He threw himself into his studies, honed his magic, and graduated at the top of his class, entering the forces at an already high rank and achieving the title of general in record time, where he led and inspired his fellows for years.

His skills and consideration led to him frequently being given the "miscellaneous" soldiers--those who were younger, older, afraid, overeager, wielders of unusual magic, injured--and he trained them well, earned their respect and loyalty. They were as much a family as some of them had, and they had each other's backs, always.

Though there were no full-scale conflicts at the time, Dahlia was constantly raided by smaller groups--bandits, warmongers, spies--and Lasko and his troops were known far and wide for their ability to drive off those groups with minimal bloodshed. They were legendary fighters who rarely ever killed, which made them popoular with some and reviled by others, who believed that anyone considered an "enemy" deserved death.

If someone had to be killed, a prisoner or someone who refused to back down, Lasko would do it himself, as quickly and cleanly as possible, so his troops didn't have to, and didn't let them know how it felt. Though he shared some of himself with them, cared for them and was cared for in turn, he kept a certain distance, both his duty as a commander and his old struggle to be close to people. It worked well enough, and he was truly happy and proud.

But, he supposes, it couldn't last forever.

It was a beautiful spring day when Lasko took a small squad to guard a trading post near the border. Things were largely peaceful, with only a few caravans passing by at all, and no scuffles or disagreements to break up. In fact, he was preparing to send everyone home when he felt a powerful, and malicious, aura. He looked around sharply and shouted for the civilians to take shelter in the post's armored shell, and in the moment his eyes weren't on the road, they attacked.

Raiders.

There were only four of them, outnumbered by Lasko's group, but among them was a demon. Lasko had fought a demon only once before, but it was in training at the academy; he had since gotten together for drinks and cards with that demon a few times, met their friends and family and squadmates, and he thinks of their gentle, friendly demeanor as the raiding demon slams an ice-covered fist into his face, sending his glasses flying along with a spray of blood.

He gets a shield up a moment too late, still managing to put distance between them as their allies clash with his.

Swords and guns won't work against demons, and even empowered humans can't take them down on their own, but Lasko knows himself, knows he can at least hold this one until the civilians get clear and his troops handle the other raiders. He has full confidence in them, has to so he can concentrate on the person attacking him with claws and magic.

They're wearing him down, but he's keeping their attention, and that's enough, right up until the other raiders start to flee and throw something to the demon, who catches it, takes a few steps back, and tosses it at Lasko's feet before joining their allies. Lasko looks down in time to see a vanishing fuse, and then everything goes dark.

Polycule D.A.M.N Crew Headcanons

Was going through @polydamnory posts for the D.A.M.N polycule and it's inspired me to write down some of my own headcanons for these guys. Enjoy!

Dear and Damien are both the chefs of the polycule, Dear is probably the most trusted person to cook in Damiens kitchen unsupervised.

Huxely likes giving extra hugs to his partners whenever they're stressed out about something but it's really just an excuse to pick them up and drag them away from their laptop/whatever they're working on so they can get some proper rest. Has done this on both Damien and Freelancer when they both desperately needed a break from cram studying especially if the usual pleads to take a break don't intially work.

Dear has magic hands where whenever they run their fingers through their partners hair, they all melt at their touch. They turn to pudding as soon as those head rubs happen. They've actually helped a lot with migraines that Freelancer and Damien have.

Gavin, Freelancer and Dear have competitions sometimes to see who can fluster Lasko up more in one day. They all think he's adorable when he's choking on his words and trying to come up with a coherent sentence after mercilessly being teased. So far Gavin and Dear are neck in neck with these challenges.

Speaking of Gavin and Dear, Dear I feel like is someone who doesn't get flustered often which Gavin sees as a personal challenge to fluster them up whenever he gets the chance. Dear finds Gavin very cute whenever he tries to and flirts right back with that same energy.

This is more of a personal headcanon but from tallest to shortest it's Huxely, Dear, Gavin, Damien, Freelancer, and Lasko.

Lasko manages to get everyone into DnD and the polycule tries their best to schedule at least one session a month depending on their own schedules. Lasko usually DMs but Dear also DMs so Lasko can have a chance to play too. Gavin and Freelancer both shamelessly flirt with the DM no matter who it is and whenever it's Lasko it usually throws him off for a good minute or so.

Lasko gets cold very easily so he usually goes to Damien for cuddles when he's feeling extra frosty. Damien doesn't mind and likes having Lasko in his lap while he works if it keeps him warm.

Following up with that headcanon, Damien gets Lasko a shit ton of warm clothes, blankets and socks so he can wear em around the house around fall and winter because of how easily Lasko gets cold.

Freelancer smacks all their partners asses equally and with accurate precision.

Huxely I feel like would be a really good gardener for vegetables and fruits, Dear helps him with growing them. Every few months when certain fruits are in season, they bring em back to share with the polycule and make desserts outta them. Dear makes some killer peach cobbler, apple pies, strawberry pastries etc outta them and there's usually nothing left by the end of the week.

Gavin likes to playfully push Damiens buttons. Right when Damien looks like he's about to blow, Gavin kisses him and it gets to Damien every time lol. Gavin finds it highly amusing.

Freelancer likes giving gentle love bites to all their partners, it's not sexual all the time but whenever they're cuddling one of em or hugging them they have specific spots they like to go for.

For example, Freelancer likes giving love bites on Huxelys and Dears chests. For Damien it's his arms and chests if he's the bigger spoon while cuddling. For Gavin and Lasko it's their necks or arms, whichever is more accessible at the moment.

Dear most of the time is really good at hiding their emotions whenever they're stressed about something or just feeling sad in general but Huxely can pick up the signs pretty quickly. When it comes to his partners he's very observant and can tell when somethings off with any one of them and that includes Dear. Cuddling sometimes turns into a good cry sesh depending on how severe whatever is affecting Dear is.

Freelancer I headcanon as a little bit of a goofball and loves making their partners laugh, it's a wonderful feeling to see nearly all of the polycule wheezing and laughing at their stupid lil jokes and they take heavy pride in it.

Gavin is in time out after "ACCIDENTALLY" throwing the food out NUMEROUS TIMES.

When he gets his act together he plates the food.

Damien is popping vessels at Freelancer choosing to help cook instead of plating because "I can do it myself you just worry about getting the orders in!"

Gavin is a troll and sometimes throws the ingredients out on purpose.

Lasko and Huxley are trying to calm everyone down because yes it does in fact get that serious.

Dear walks in and is like wtf.

They are appointed to chef.

Freelancer is offended.

They argue about it.

Nothing changes.

They try to go to a new area and it says "you need 1 more star" and Damien is aggressively like : WHERE?

If they miss one star, they will get a five minute rant from Damien.

To quote that one video I saw on instagram:

Damien fr: We can't keep fucking up these orders.

The rest of the crew refer to Damien and Dear as Chef. Damien and Dear take it very seriously.

Tables have been broken, things have been lit on fire. But other than that it is very fun! :D
