SAG-AFTRA Warns ‘Acting Profession’ May ‘No Longer Be an Option’ Without ‘Transformative Change’ in Contract
"
SAG-AFTRA held an informational meeting for more than 760 people over Zoom on Monday afternoon.
Among those who signed on were actors Lupita Nyong’o, Vanessa Kirby, Melissa McCarthy, Vanessa Hudgens, Lucy Liu,  Laverne Cox, Michael Stuhlbarg, Paul Walter Hauser, Jon Huertas and Josh Pence, according to a source.
CAA’s Bryan Lourd, Faith France and Ryan Abboushi also attended, as did UTA’s Jay Gassner and Shani Rosenzweig and Houston Costa and Kris Heller of IAG. Publicists included Mara Buxbaum, Jill Fritzo, Luke Windsor, Brianna Smith and Cheryl Maisel.
The meeting was led by SAG-AFTRA national executive director and chief negotiator Duncan Crabtree-Ireland. The guild shared a one-sheet of talking points for participants. Among the bulleted items on revenue sharing, health care and retirement, online casting platforms and artificial intelligence, the memo states, “Without a transformative change in SAG-AFTRA’s current contract with the AMPTP, the acting profession will no longer be an option for future generations of performers, and actors already working in the industry will need to pursue other careers in order to survive.”
Crabtree-Ireland read questions from participants in the chat, including one asking if SAG-AFTRA members should “unsubscribe” to struck streaming services. While there is no rule regarding subscriptions, Crabtree-Ireland said that leaving a streamer is one way of showing support of the strike, a source tells Variety.
There are two more similar Zoom meetings set for Tuesday, July 18.
As Variety’s Gene Maddaus reported on July 15, the biggest sticking points for SAG-AFTRA and the major studios is the union’s demand for 2% of the revenue generated by streaming shows. The two sides also remain far apart on basic increases in minimum rates, with the studios offering 5%, 4% and 3.5% across the three years of the contract, while the union is demanding 11%, 4% and 4%."

RIP CINDY WILLIAMS
1947 - 2023
Tumblr media
Cindy Williams was born in the Van Nuys California on August 22, 1947. Her family moved to Dallas, Texas when she was a year old, and returned to Los Angeles when she was ten. She had one sibling, a sister named Carol Ann. Williams wrote and acted during childhood at a church and later acted at Birmingham High School, graduating in 1965. She attended Los Angeles City College where she majored in theater .
Tumblr media
Three years after playing small roles in film and television, Williams landed the role of Laurie in American Graffiti (1973) which she repeated in the 1979 sequel.  She was nominated for a BAFTA Award for the original film.
Tumblr media
That same year, Williams shared Ringmaster duties with Lucille Ball and Telly Savalas on “Circus of the Stars 2″. Ringmaster Williams introduces her future co-star Penny Marshall, who works with a baby elephant named Tika. Williams also does a stunt with Michael York that ends with her being shot out of a canon.
Tumblr media
Williams was first introduced to Penny Marshall by Marshall’s brother Garry, who had written 11 episodes of “The Lucy Show” from 1964 to 1966.
Tumblr media
Garry cast them on “Happy Days” as Fonzie’s dates on a November 1975 episode of the popular series. She was reunited with her American Grafitti co-star Ron Howard. A spin-off followed in 1976.
Tumblr media
“Laverne & Shirley” ran six seasons, although Williams departed the show after season five and 158 epsisodes.
Tumblr media
Laverne and Shirley’s high jinks were reminiscent of those of Lucy Ricardo and Ethel Mertz on “I Love Lucy.” Williams demonstrated a flair for portraying the awkwardness of youth in broad physical comedy. Both series featured redheads and both took place in the 1950s.
Tumblr media
Although Laverne and Shirley were evocative of Lucy and Ethel, sometimes the homage was a bit more specific.
Tumblr media
“Laverne & Shirley” - “The Diner” (May 6, 1980) inspired by “I Love Lucy” - “The Diner” (April 26, 1954)
No other female comedy team in the history of television has been so often compared to Lucy and Ethel as Laverne and Shirley. Add in their pals Lenny and Squiggy, you’ve got a reasonable facsimile of the Ricardos and Mertzes, especially when the plots pit men against the women. In this episode, which has the same exact title as its inspiration, Lenny has inherited a diner that he gives over to the girls to run.
Tumblr media
Just as Ethel was confined to the kitchen, so is Laverne. She even does a bit of business with a pop-up toaster, something that Lucille Ball often did. Both sets of ladies indulge in “diner lingo” and get overwhelmed by their new business ventures.
Tumblr media
"Laverne and Shirley” was filmed at Stage 20 on the Paramount lot, which was formerly Desilu. The show was known for fearless physical comedy not seen since the days of “I Love Lucy.”
“Lucy was a physical comedienne, and she would be all over the stage, so Desi Arnaz, being the genius he was, put all of their cameras on these dollies. So [on Laverne & Shirley] there are three cameras, you’ve got the stage, as though you are watching a play, and you have the cameras moving with us on dollies. Usually, [sitcom] cameras are set in place and stagnant, but our cameras were like Lucille Ball’s cameras.” ~ Cindy Williams, 2001
Actors who also appeared with Lucille Ball that appeared on “Laverne & Shirley” include Hans Conried, Mary Treen, Robert Alda, Gino Conforti, Dick Patterson, and Leoda Richards.
Tumblr media
In 1995, she participated in “The Laverne & Shirley Reunion”. In 2002, Williams once again re-united with Marshall for “Laverne & Shirley: Together Again”, a TV special.
Tumblr media
In 1978, Williams and Ball were part of “Gene Kelly: An American in Pasadena”, a variety show tribute to Kelly that also featured her “Laverne & Shirley” co-star Betty Garrett (Edna Babish).
Tumblr media
That same year, Lucy and Cindy were also seen on “General Electric’s All-Star Anniversary.”  Here she was teamed with her former co-star Penny Marshall.
Tumblr media
Williams was also seen with Ball at "The Sixth Annual American Cinema Awards” honoring Bette Davis on January 6, 1989. This was one of Ball’s last appearances before her death.
Tumblr media
Williams was married to Bill Hudson in 1982. Together they have two children: Emily and Zachary. The marriage ended in divorce in 2000. Cindy Williams died at home after a short illness. She was 75 years old.

Just for fun, I want to share all the shennanigans in the discord about his 'permanently-cowlicked' like a broom dried in wrong angle style lmao... From Wiki, the hair explanation...
He has "permanently cowlicked" golden blond (although they have the same hair color, Leland has called his hair as "vomit-colored") hair that is made up towards the left, while some of it falls in bangs over his forehead; his hairstyle is described by the Cursed Princess Club to be "like a broom that dried at the wrong angle".
So the starter is here the pic.. Credit to Suparcali !!! @https://www.tumblr.com/stardustfoureva @stardustfoureva^^
Tumblr media
Frederick's hair is such ridiculous kind of style but he's the embodiment of Plaid 'Princes' hair joined to be one... And not only from the hair color from his father. I just realize recently!
Lance: base of the hair around the skull line, and near the ear
Leland: that 'upwoosh thing' that make his hair permanently cowlicked - come from the Plaid King but for Frederick he only has a part of hair that raise unlike all of the hair
Blaine: bangs which make his 'pony' hair longer than Lance while not raising like Leland. This the reason why his hair like a broom BUT not on calm - ordinary broom because upwoosh thingy. @randomgentlefolk sorry for the ping but I remember about your tips to drawing Frederick's hair = a broom hahaha
Random Quotes about Frederick's hair (and other Plaid 'Princes' in the extension) as the following :
His hair style such combination of his family members lmao And there Frederick hair has all complexities of plaid princes style Frederick ily sm but I wanna tell that drawing your hair is nightmare I love Frederick, favorite character, best boy...but his hair is a nightmare to draw Its her own fault to make him the secondary MC hahahh Thermidora can help with that - cut off come bits of hair and i'Ll be much better leland doesnt understans the complexities of his cut smh my heas Artist usually do all of those when for example working on an animated series or something
I find LambCat herself probably frustated, Frederick is the only character that has 5 poses of him in character design to draw his hair -> refers to character design in VOL 1
Tumblr media
so : front, side left, side right, 1/4 (?) and back
so extra - aw all of his side are smiling softly!
wait, more accurate to say 1/8 on the left - 3/4 on the right (to show his face if look on right side), and complete half (1/2)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Very similar indeed, no one can't convince me otherwise Yup! Honestly all characters will have their fans heh, except maybe Leland unless they change his design and make him sexy hahha His younger version is sexy damn So much similar with Frederick espc that scene where he's blushing over baby Laverne FRED WITH RED EYES AAAGH NOOOOOOO Hoping no bald Fred Blaine should be chibi too He thinks hes too cool
Isolde please let your fabulous hair genes be strong to Fred
So his lovely golden hair will forever there like yours
I think baldness depends of the mother side so ... ISOLDE PLEASE
The closing post is random screenshoots of Plaid Princes :

Cindy Williams   1947-2023.
Cindy Williams had to make a choice. In 1974 she had a promising film career, co-starring in the Oscar-nominated hit American Graffiti where she gave an alternately funny and poignant performance as a girl figuring out that her boyfriend (Ron Howard) is trying to break up with her (she was so good that Pauline Kael scolded director George Lucas from leaving her out of the “whatever happened to …” montage that ended the movie). She had just pulled off a challenging role in Francis Ford Coppola’s Oscar-nominated, The Conversation as a woman whose conversation with her lover is recorded by a surveillance expert (Gene Hackman). It’s not often that a nine-line part becomes the center of a movie but Williams walked a line of fear and ambiguity that kept the films denouement from cheap melodrama. She had also shot an episode of Howard’s hit TV show, Happy Days playing Shirley Feeney a single girl in the 1950s tied at the hip to her best friend Laverne DeFazio (Penny Marshall) and the studio wanted to spin the pair off into their own series. The 1970s were one of the most exciting times for movies but also a nadir for female actors. (Trying to find a substantial woman’s part in any list of the decades big movies is like panning for gold). But there was also a dividing line between TV and film actors that was much more impregnable than today. She had every reason to believe she’d be cutting herself off from film.
She chose the series which ran for eight seasons and made her a huge star but except for her delightfully deranged performance as a supermarket cashier who believes an alien visitation is nigh in the brilliant-but-lost comedy UFOria, she mostly played supporting roles in small movies.
All things considered, she made the right choice. Film’s loss. RIP
