Queer things in my life

I go for Eddie’s look. But I cut my hair and now I miss it so much because it no longer looks like Eddie’s mane. I love dressing up in my Eddie getup, makes me feel more masc and comfortable and confident. I think he’s super cool and my favorite character so far in Stranger Things.

BUT ALSO. Like, I wanna kiss him so bad and hug him and I just had like 2 consecutive dreams with him as the centerpiece.

Like look at him. He plays guitar, so do I. He’s a nerd, so am I. I have something for guys with long messy hair.

OMFB can we stop the infantilisation of trans men please? i js saw this video which was like “t4t coded ships” and the explanation for why each ship was t4t coded was that the woman was like awesome and cool and powerful and he had puppy dog eyes and was a bit dumb.

WHAT THE FUCK. that’s actually so annoying and i see it so frequently. (im obviously not trans fem so im not gonna talk about how that’s presenting trans women bc it’s not my place) but i feel like literally only two types of fictional guys get HC as trans and it’s either

1.loser bf (the straight trans man)

e.g. scott pilgrim, jonathan byers, trevor spengler

or

2. alternative or gender nonconforming guy (queer trans man)

e.g. eddie munson, boris pavlikovsky, sirius black

and it’s like soooo frustrating to only ever see trans guys being treated like innocent babies who can do no wrong or being seriously over sexualised and over feminised.

Eddie Munson - no one is surprised here. the barely restrained panic at all times, the over the top dramaticism of things that genuinely do not need to be dramaticized, the negative self talk and inability to sit still for longer than a second and half. not to mention the gender and cringefail loser of it all.

Will Graham - oof, a good, meek boy with garbage social skills and an inability to hold eye contact, easily manipulated into Becoming Worse. devotion levels off the fucking charts. nightmares, night sweats, taking in strays.

Haruhi Fujioka - thee gender nonconforming baddie, hates rich people, clumsy, gets self into situations way beyond her comfort and ability level and still somehow thrives. smart enough to get a scholarship to a bougie private school, dumb enough to break an 8 million yen vase.

Tina Belcher - horny fic writer with a deep infatuation for her friends. deadpan, not very visually expressive, but a hopeless romantic with a super strong sense of right and wrong and singularly focused interests. tina is A Comfort Character and i could go on and on but i won't.

I think it’s actually very important for at least Lucas, tho imo both Lucas and Dustin are canonically staunchly hetero, to be straight in the show to serve as a contrast to Mike and Will and their friendship being more than a normal platonic male friendship at the time, as well as being a source of that heteronormative peer pressure that was rampant back then, a source pushing Mike towards conformity. Having everyone in the show be queer is fun to head canon and write in fic but in the show it’s not really what they’ve showed so far. mike and will standing out in a seas of mostly straight ppl serves to further highlight the otherness they’ve been put into and how they don’t fit in, it makes their struggles more poignant and I think when you’re taking on the story of gay kids in the 80s back when they were peak ostracized and men were dying by the thousands of aids while the govt sat by and did nothing, it’s actually VERY important to tell that story and it’s harsh realities as close to how it was, and the very happy fluffy everyone is gay mentality that is so popular with fans just doesn’t feel right. it’s fine in fandom spaces but just don’t expect everyone to be queer in the actual canon and that’s ok because it makes their story that much more special

gywir! mike and will’s story, together and as individuals, needs to be told with care. i’m not expecting perfection because it’s the duffers. dustin and lucas are outsiders/social rejects for very different reasons, which are clear to us. but mike’s (and even will’s) sexuality isn’t obvious to everybody, in-universe and the show’s audience. will is the one that makes the viewer go, ah that makes sense, or; oh, i had a feeling! but it’s different with mike. he’s able to blend in to the point of being invisible whilst will is visible and gender nonconforming (through the lens of ‘80s reagan’s america). not every gay boy or man got to experience a sweet coming out moment with their newfound bestie (robin and steve). not every gay boy or man is able to come to terms with their sexuality

i don’t know if they’ll show gay bashing but i wouldn’t be surprised if there are some homophobia based violence, considering how the content age rating has gone up, and if the jocks are beating dustin up for being associated with eddie munson, i can’t see them holding back when it comes to people like will. i just don’t think it’ll be a gratuitous kind of violence, for the sake of it. like the brutal hard to watch assault of adrian mellon in it: chapter two before pennywise got to him (although i do think adrian and his partner served a narrative basis and social commentary, and adrian is based on the real life murder of charlie howard). the duffers take inspo from stephen king but i don’t think they’ll go down that route. it’ll be more supernatural based, which we already saw in season 1 and 2, even though the SA subtext isn’t clear to most.

fandom fun and headcanons are all good, as you said. i just don’t have hope for certain people taking the story seriously because of the fanon they’ve accepted as fact 😬😬 they already don’t understand how bad it was in the 80s, and some of them expect mike to go down on his knee and propose to el in the series finale 😭💀 if that happens, mike will be pale as a sheet, trembling and unable to look at el in the eyes, and will’s right behind mike, rubbing his back and whispering reassurances 🥺😢 tldr - agree with everything you said <3

I feel like this has to be said, but I am pro-Mileven, pro-Lumax, pro Mike Wheeler, pro Jane El Hopper, pro Lucas, pro Max and pro Dustin and pro main party. I also have no qualms about Jancy becoming canon, and I am in full support of cishet gender nonconforming demisexual Jane Eleven ‘El’ Hopper agenda, as well as asexual aromantic (nebularomantic) Dustin agenda (who is also transmasc AMAB nonbinary, he has the vibe), and asexual Eddie Munson (he has the vibe). I also do support autistic El, as well as Dustin with autism and ADHD, any other neurodivergent HC’s for other Stranger Things characters are things you can feel free to give me- I’ll eat that shit up like halloween candy tbh.

okay, so i want to talk a little about eddie munson’s relationship to sex and his sexuality, since i haven’t really addressed it beyond his obvious queerness. tw for SA mention && general nsfw

given the time period, ‘queer’ in the way we use it today wasn’t super commonly used, the reclamation of the word was pretty much in its infancy, and for the most part was still largely used as a slur, so while eddie will crack jokes to those he’s close too and trust about being a queer, it’s not really how he’d self identify his sexuality. he is pansexual, but while pansexual was used in the 80′s wasn’t super commonly used, and more so used within the kink and leather communities. so eddie, if pushed would shrug and tell you he’s gay or whatever, he likes both, doesn’t discriminate, likes to keep his options open --you get the idea. he’s more a vibes over gender type person, but definitely has more crushes on boys.

so what you gotta know is hawkins eddie, and Indianapolis eddie is two very different persona’s, in the city he is much more confident and flirty, and openly queer (in safe spaces), he can put on his persona and be the very best version he wishes he could always, but eddie is a flirt naturally, so while he is more sure of himself in indy, boy will flirt regardless.

most of what he’s learned about sex, has been with the men he met in gay clubs in indianapolisis, he got a fake ID when he was 16, as soon as he could drive and started going into the city, at first it was dive bars and punk scene type venues, and eventually he learned about club 21, and stated to explore the gay scene as a baby queer who had limited experience with men or women. most of his experience were with much older men, who sweet talked him, and took advantage of naivety pushing his limits beyond what he was comfortable with. Almost all of his sexual experiences with older men haven’t been favourable, and the consent has been questionable at best, and down right absent in other cases.

eddie is vers, however given his bad experience in the past, he will say he’s a top, in order to protect himself and avoid getting hurt again, if he’s the one calling the shots it has to go in his favour, right? he does have an interest in kink and BDSM, although he isn’t super well versed on things, since his limited experience comes from older ‘dominant’ tops, and while he has had at least one good experience with a guy who was only 4 years his senior, who taught him all about safe words, and traffic light code, and even taught him some shirbari, which he is super fascinated by.

he is vaguely aware of hanky code, and queer flagging, he knows as much in that wearing it in his back pocket signals to fellow queers he is queer, but not so much in the in depth knowledge that wearing a black one in his left pocket means he’s flagging as an S&M top, however close to the truth that may be, it’s purely coincidental. but when someone points that out to him in indy, he goes along with it, and finds it a little funny since, he’s only really bottomed at this point.

as far as his gender presentation and identity goes, he’s cis-ish, but very much gender non-conforming, metalhead fashion has a lot of cross over with queer fashion and i think that’s super important to take note of, w.a.s.p which, eddie has a pin of so clearly is a fan’s style was very much gender nonconforming, and then you have the lead singer of Judas Priest, Rob Halford,  an openly gay man (although closeted at the time in ‘86) who had HUGE influence on metal fashion and pushing the boundaries of gender fuckery in fashion, eddie is absolutely influenced by him, by bowie, by elements of hair metal style and punk too, all of which have an over arching theme of gender nonconformity, so to eddie, call him a boy, a girl, anything in between and he literally wouldn’t give a shit, he’s an any pronouns kinda bitch and i love that for him.
