Helpful tip about interacting with people in regard to Israel and Palestine, from a pro-Palestine Jewish person whose family has extensively studied Israel, Palestine and the history of the Levant, complete with multiple Ph.Ds and working with some of the world's leading experts (warning, this is longer than I thought it would be):

I've learned that the most important thing you can do in interpersonal conversation in order to advocate for peace? Is to establish a mutual definition of Zionism. Which sounds weird and not focused on Palestine but hear me out:

The idea of Zionism being inherently supremacist, seperationist, and/or pro-Israel is a very modern thing that's often spread as misinformation. Zionism is simply the recognition of the Levant as the Jewish homeland, and the belief that Jewish people should be entitled to the same rights and recognition as any other indigenous group. 'Zionism' may be our current name for it, but our homeland has *always* been a key part of our culture, just as it is for any other indigenous people. That's why NINETY-TWO PERCENT of Jews identify as Zionists- and that's why you will always inherently alienate them when you say that Zionists aren't welcome- because you really may as well just say Jews. We know you're not talking about the Christian Zionists. That's why most of us don't feel safe anywhere, anymore. Peace for Palestine is never going to happen if your definition of it involves the oppression of a different ethnic group. I think that's pretty reasonable.

When you hear or see the expression "antizionism is antisemitism"- it is not referring to Israel in any way, shape or form! Antizionism is the refusal to recognize Jewish people as indigenous to the Middle East. Do not confuse it with being anti-Israel. I don't really know who TOLD all of you that Zionism is synonymous with being pro-Israel, but I'm fairly certain that they are A) not your friend and B) not a friend to any Jewish person.

Supporting the modern state of Israel is not Zionism. The philosophy behind its existence in the first place is that six thousand years of suffering had taught us that the only ones who can be trusted to keep Jewish people safe are Jewish people. It's called intergenerational trauma! The Israeli government actively uses antisemitism around the world as justification for their actions. So if you really want to help? Prove them wrong.

The things you accuse Zionists of, the ideals of Jewish supremacy and wanting an ethnostate, are referred to as Kahanism, an extremist movement born out of Zionism... but definitely not the same thing. You can tell those guys to fuck right off. Most of us want a free Palestine just as much as you do, but it's hard to help you when you're chasing us with knives and bombing our community centers and telling us we deserve to die.

And if it's about Jewish people being European colonizers, well, I want you to start thinking *why* you might think that. We've already done the DNA tests proving that Ashkenazim are from the Middle East. They're a relatively small portion of Israel's population, though- what do you think of Sephardic and Mizrahi Jews? The ones from Asia and Africa? Are they also white colonizers? If Jewish people aren't indigenous to the Middle East, why is Hebrew a sister language of Arabic and Akkadian? Why do Hebrew biblical names and places correlate to real ancient Middle Eastern names and places? Why are so many of our myths derived from Canaanite ones?

Besides. We know you'd never pull any of this with any OTHER groups you consider white colonizers. You don't widely call for the abolishment of their countries and the massacre of civilians. So, again. What makes Jews the exception to all of your rules, if it isn't two thousand years of internalized antisemitic propaganda?

I'm scared, for myself and my family and Jewish people around the world. I'm scared for what the Israeli government will do to Palestinians if you continue undermining your own efforts to help them, because you have no chance of being heard if you make your hatred and ignorance so obvious- those are the weapons of the enemy. And I could be angry about it, I guess. But I mostly just want people to understand.

Look. Israel did not put us in this position- remember how after 9/11, conservatives and Islamophobes were justifying attacks on Muslims and Arabs by saying that people were "naturally reacting" and that it was really al-Queda's fault for making the rest of the world hate and fear Muslims and Arabs? And we all agreed that was super racist and wrong? Yeah. Same rule applies. YOU did this. YOU have chosen to act on antisemitic biases. You're the only ones who can undo it. So, if you're really an advocate for peace, you need to stand up for Jewish lives with the same fervor you have for Palestinian lives. Anything else is only going to worsen the divide.

Confession I kind of don’t like the suggestion that the way in which they will show Mike liking Will is having him constantly worry over him/be desperate to save him from something. The reason Mike & Will work and would be better together than Mike & El is because of their friendship, I don’t want Mleven 2.0 where the only reason people perceive them as in love is because of the life and death dramatics. I want emotional support and strong communication and teamwork between them (I also want flirting like in 4x04 but that’s besides the point). In s3 Mike fusses so much over El making her own choices about using her powers that it suffocates her, she literally has to tell him to stop it and to “trust [her]”. And aside from that all he does 24/7 is worry she’s going to die and/or abandon him, it’s nauseatingly repetitive and says nothing about their actual romantic relationship. I don’t want that for Byler. I want Will to tell Mike “I need to do X” (X being risky/dangerous thing) and for Mike to say “okay, talk to me. tell me how I can help. how are we going to do this?”. Maybe we’ll get it both ways depending on if Will tries to do something really stupid like sacrifice himself, and obviously Mike being a bit on edge in general because of Will likely being Vecna’s main target makes sense, but I just want their relationship to be mostly focused on showcasing their actual bond and why it’s so special instead of forcing this state of panic onto Mike that is too reminiscent of his trauma-induced dynamic with El which is half of why I need that ship to be over in the first place

and well in a world where eddie does end up getting a rental in el paso for a little bit; buck is receiving a text from eddie the first night he’s gone that just inexplicably contains 4 random digits and nothing else. he is instantly replying: everything ok???? to which eddie responds with: this house has an electronic door lock 😐 that’s the code to get in. oh well. i guess it saves me from having to mail you a key. and buck has to actively rub at his chest to comfort himself over the fact that the only person he has ever felt so emotionally and intimately close to is now so physically far away.
