Sonic x Shadow Generations spoilers beneath the cut, specifically about Maria-

I really like that the game goes out of its way to show that Shadow is different than he was. He doesn't slide back into his old ways with Maria like a glove. She's almost sickeningly naïve at times, and you can tell that there's an undercurrent of disbelief that Shadow feels whenever she brings it up.

Hell, he even runs away when confronted with the literal light of positivity radiating from her.

But then he comes back to her after making up his mind. Striking a balance between his darker nature and the light she wants for him. In the final bossfight, Shadow's particle effects that represent his power are a combination of her yellow light and his own inky black-red darkness. Balance.

Shadow used to hang off Maria's every word as unerring truth. He even went so far as to destroy the world for her because she thought that was what she wanted.

But now? He's started seeing her as a person. Not an idol. Not that shadowy martyr dying over and over again in his dreams. A person.

Not a symbol of his better self or lost innocence or any of that, but someone who loves him and would like to see the best for him.

A part of him. Not all of him.

Surprise @duusheen and @estah!!! I'm sorry that these guys have not appeared in my posts for a whole freakin year 😱 (esp Bryce and Leilani TERRIBLE IK!!!).
