This weekend we celebrated the erikae of geiko Mitsuyo: after completing her maiko apprenticeship, she has graduated into a full fledged geiko of Miyajimacho. Congratulations!

The miyajimachou hanamachi participated in the Gion Matsuri festival on July 20, 2024. Maiko Umeyuu (Sumiya okiya) and Maiko Terutsuyo (Hanai okiya) performed the dance Natsu wa Hotaru after the float ride.

Favorite material from which to construct definitely-not-independently-mobile mannequins?

A few examples as food for thought: Wooden (although it’s almost certainly never been part of a tree)? Typical shopping-mall plastic (almost)? Not-quite-skin? Actual skin?

For the sake of Uncanny, the good ol' skin-covered plastic is a classic. The feel of something hard and cold sliding under something soft and- yknow.

Otherwise I'm a fan of metal-plastic mix! Silicone is a good way to hide the cracks between the plastic shells which cover metallic pistons and gears and the like. Classic animatronic style! Kind of like that new FNAF game... Sister Location, I think? But the tube innards aren't as efficient as normal pneumatics and motors/servos, in my opinion.

𝐅𝐔𝐍 𝐅𝐀𝐂𝐓: I'm currently working on myself to try and get back into acting. I've only ever done plays and the one film project I was in fell through, then I had kids and put everything on hold. But now that my kids are older I don't want to go my whole life without ever trying it out. I love acting and hope I can get a few projects here and there just for fun.
