I've been cooking, I've been cooking...
Let me share the cover art and a few stills from the next installment of my Richonne videos.
How Richonne Was Born #2 - Dandy On Set and Off
I've also been writing my first fanfic (Richonne of course)! I'll share it here before venturing to ff or ao3 because I'm brand new to this and that is a lot. I've put 7000 words down in two days but as usual, the rewrite hurts like a *****.
We'll see...
Finally, I'm still researching my bigger (essay/podcast) project #TheOnesWhoLoveLiveOn inspired by Danai Gurira, Michonne Grimes and bell hooks' work about belonging & the labor of love. This is my biggest endeavour to date and will hopefully include political and cultural commentary, from TWD/TOWL to tv/movie/genres from a Black feminist /Afrofem perspective.
You can find me on youtube, twitter or here as moonsoul or restes de lune. I had forgotten that tumblr was so much more pleasant and appropriate to follow up on and share projects. I really hope they all make it to the end, I feel empowered and motivated but my fellow adhders know that consistency and hyperfocus rarely go along hand in hand.
Thank you so much for your support, it means a lot to feel less alone. I wouldn't be making any of this if it weren't for the inspired (and yes, sometimes unhinged and worse) fandoms. I hadn't written or edited anything in forever and it's the screeners, the richonners, fanfics writers, and the overwhelming enthusiasm that brought me back to the fold and to my geeky antics.
Keep an eye out on my youtube for the next edit

Happy shipping

I'm at Geek Craft Expo Seattle! Find me at booth #B-08
My final show of the year is this weekend at Hangar 30 / Magnuson Park | Seattle WA. It's a Holiday show, but it's also basically if you took the artist alley/exhibitor hall from a geeky convention and let you get in for just $2! Ok it's literally that :D More info at this link
I'll share some images of a few things I'll have this year, but there are a TON of new prints, especially in the hand embellished Limited Edition Category.
There will be a bin of Original artwork including a few on sale (PS my shop will be closed for a week for the show)
I'll have bundles and singles of my new Rune Owls stationary planner series
And a few other things at my booth: tons of stickers, washi tape, prints, mouse pads, and gaming playmats / deskmats.
And there will be a limited selection of discount blind bags for old and retired prints packed up all nice like this! There are different themes, like dragons, fantasy mix, and animals and nature. Each pack has 15 prints for $30. If any are left after the show I'll throw them to my mailing list.
I'll also have B-Grade enamel pins in these absolutely adorable gift boxes. The black box has 4 pins for $20 ($60 value) and the gold box is $40 ($120 value). These are ridiculous "I desperately need to move these ASAP because I'm tired of them taking up precious space" prices. Again, if there are any left over I'll toss them up on my site next week to the mailing list. ;D
If you're in the area I highly recommend stopping by! It's ALL local, small artists and artisans - the best way to support small businesses for holiday shopping and just in general.

Vikings versus Slugterrans
PS. I posted a very similar one before, but it was a long time ago and has kind of gotten lost in my pile of starting-out posts, so I thought I’d give it another chance, with a few quick edits :)
I’ve watched the episodes of Race To The Edge and Slugterra dozens of times, and I’ve noticed parallels between the Dragon Riders and the Shane Gang:
Hiccup vs Eli:
The courageous & highly strategic leaders who are determined to bring peace to their worlds. They’re often seen as “weak” by their powerful rivals due to their smaller size and compassionate attitudes. They show great respect & have strong bonds with the unique animals in their worlds (dragons / slugs), whereas many others don’t. In addition, Hiccup and Eli each have a lovable, powerful, fire-breathing sidekick :)
Astrid vs Trixie:
The stronger-than-they-look second-in-commands of the groups, extremely loyal to their leaders and always prepared to offer them a clever idea or words of advice. Outspoken and bold, fearless and feisty, these no-nonsense girls will never hesitate to do the right thing and are always eager for action. Although Hiccstrid became an official couple while Elixie are never shown as having a relationship, Trixie and Eli have a close friendship / partnership that is very similar to the way Astrid and Hiccup were when they were just friends.
Fishlegs vs Kord:
The intelligent (and geeky) gentle giants! Fishlegs is as knowledgable with dragons & nature as Kord is with mechanics. Both are also very loyal to their leaders, while having a sibling-like friendship with the second-in-commands Astrid / Trixie.
Snotlout / Tuffnut / Ruffnut vs Pronto:
Lastly, Pronto is basically a combination of Snotlout and the twins: he’s obnoxious, brags that he’s the best in the world, yet can be a coward (Snotlout). He says many random and dumb things that are usually humourous (mostly the twins), while being senseless and clumsy (all three). However, despite often helping to cause disasters and making situations more complicated, all four still manage to be useful to their team, usually in a random & unexpected way.

Since Leia is Eric and Donna's daughter, Eric and Donna need to have at least recurring roles. But it doesn't seem like that's the case, so...yeah. For longevity's sake, that makes a long term series a lot more difficult. Leia can't stay in Point Place with her grandparents forever, y'know?
And it's more like, the main characters from the previous series need to generally have their shit together in order to pass the torch. And three out of the six apparently don't, so...it's an unhappy ending I'm unwilling to accept. Jackie, Kelso, and Hyde all deserve better endings than that. It leaves a bad taste in the mouth, from the getgo. Because a reboot needs a solid foundation, in order for it to flourish. T9S doesn't have that.
*****
Nor does it have the slightest bit of IC consistency, for those who are happy, my OTP. Couldn't Eric at least be a history or film professor? I mean, he spent the entirety of season 7 soul searching so he wouldn't base his career on his geeky hobbies. It's so fucking stupid, and once again? Leaves a bad taste in the mouth, from the getgo.
And furthermore, couldn't Eric and Donna's daughter not be named freaking Leia? Leah, Lucy, Layla, Sarah (it means princess)? I'd be far more invested in it, or any potential edited verse, if her name was simply changed.
Because Donna literally sexually roleplayed as Leia in season 7, and Eric had sex dreams about Leia in season 6. It's downright disgusting, and so OOC that the name and the 1995 date sent some massive, massive red flags from the getgo.
And, unfortunately, the massive red flags have only become more numerous as time has elapsed and more news has come out. It's going to be another season 8, straight up. With far more ramifications and consequences, that stray so far from the trajectory of the original show (season 1-7, and for season 8, it's the logistics), that even Mila has obviously rendered it as an AU. And I wholeheartedly agree with her. >:(
*****
PS: It's probably going to be similar to season 8 viewership wise, too, which tanked after the first few episodes. Red and Kitty couldn't carry the show (T7S), much less with none of the OG gang being even recurring characters (T9S).
And I love Red and Kitty, but Eric carried T7S as the titular character (as season 8 proved), and it would make far more sense for him (and Donna) to have more active roles (like Cory and Topanga in Girl Meets World, to an extent). Since Leia, once again, is their daughter.
unless she’s lying she just confirmed everything and I’m so sad 😭😭😭

TV TROPES THAT ARE OVERUSED: “SIMPLIFY, PLEASE”
THIS IS SO RELEVANT! THIS IS SO TRUE!
“Dear TV: Stop Telling the Techno-Babbling Character to 'Put It in English'”
Dear TV,
Sometimes your scenes involving supersmart characters take dumb, dreadfully expected turns.
I’m talking about when a smartie’s outburst of techno babble is met by his or her layman colleagues with glazed eyes and dropped jaws, followed by the inevitable variation on, “In English, please.”
Take, for example, this recent episode of Arrow, where on three different occasions — all within the same 42 minutes, and sometimes just scenes apart — a tech genius failed to proactively dumb things down enough:
TV, I am not here to begrudge you the brandishing of brilliant minds on shows such as “Arrow”, “Criminal Minds” and “Scorpion”. Far from it. Lord knows, Jack Bauer (”24″) would have died 10 times over had Chloe not known how to open a socket and upload a terabyte widget into the ethersphere.
Rather, my point is this: When you get to one of those scenes, keep in mind that these people almost always have worked with each other for years and years. So at some point, didn’t “Alias‘” Marshall or “Bones‘” Brennan realize that to launch into a techno babble-heavy dissertation would, without fail, result in someone asking for it “in English”? And then they’d have to basically repeat themselves?
Why not speak more plainly from go and save us all some time?
It’s like this, TV. When I visit with my mom and she asks, “How is that Mark Harmon’s CSI show doing in the ratings?,” I don’t respond, “Well, it’s down 13 percent in the 18-49 demo year over year, but it’s still leading the night in P2+.” I say, “A lot of people are still watching it, Ma!”
We hear all the time from showrunners about how such-and-such scene/kiss was “cut for time.” Well, if I may suggest an area where seconds can be easily snipped, consider these alternatives to the Techno Babble/”Put it in English” trope, edited for clarity in a 280 Characters or Less culture:
1) Have the computer/science/medical whiz “decode” their dizzying download as they go along (e.g. “I could do this, which means this….”).
Or,
2) Have the “layman character” translate for us, seeing as they have worked with this person for years and surely picked up on a thing or two along the way (e.g. “In other words, you would do this.”)
In an increasingly tech-heavy/-savvy society, the wonk’s words aren’t as insanely foreign as they used to be (military-trained Dig doesn’t know what “triangulate” means?), while the ostensible humor of the moment (“You’re so smaht! And I isn’t!”) has become the groan-worthy equivalent of a Dad Joke — and trust me, I know plenty of those.
Yours truly in TV, Matt
Source: TV LINE
PS. I sign my name under this! Its one of the many overused TV tropes that take a lot away. Use that joke once... on your show... but don’t make it a theme, cause it’s not appealing ...at all. And... instead of having the tech geek explain it in simple terms, let your average character flex their brain “muscle” and learn the “geek language”.
I agree with this...a lot. But I also want the average non-geek characters on the TV shows AND the average audience member not to have the geeky characters (on TV shows) lower their explanations to their level, but instead for all “non-geeks” to rise to the “geeks” level. I want the tech-speak to remain, and I want the other characters to learn to understand it... even if just a little,
So... I agree. But also disagree with this a bit. Instead of the “non-geeks” asking to put it in English (cause it’s presumed the audience is really dumb, when most understand some “tech speak”, cause they’ve heard it so many times before. So instead of asking for TV shows & smart characters to “dumb it down” automatically, I’d ask to keep it “geeky”, but not let the non-geeks remain “stupid” forever. They’ve worked with these geeks for a while, so something has got to have stick
On “Scorpion”, for example, they use this with Cabe. Sometimes they make him go “in english, please, I don’t understand, sometimes they make him understand enough to follow the convo and know what to do/what they mean. The times where they use this trope with him I find it hard to believe...
So instead of not learning any geek speak... not during the time they worked together prior to the Pilot, not suring all the seasons to follow (How do these detectives solve these cases if they are unable to follow simple geek speak. And I mean simple...not “rocket science level”, but “plugging in a device” level), and THAT is something that I personally find very hard to believe. And yes, it’s over-used trope. And one, which is used less often would save a lot of screentime. That way important scenes would not have to be cut. Over-using tropes like these is not good, and I find it often to be a sign of the show not having enough ideas and just filling the 43 weekly minutes with “something”.

I love the gifset you reblogged with Pete and Gwen! I was just wondering what was wrong(?) with the Homecoming review you mentioned in your tags? What are your thoughts on Homecoming? :) Anyways love your blog and your writing! Have a great day!
Thank you! So I have somewhat unsuccessfully attempted not to be Really Negative about Homecoming, except on twitter where I’ve clearly given up altogether, but heads up: I’m about to be pretty negative because I care way too much about Peter Parker. My opinions are my own, etc. Right off the bat: I actually do think Spider-Man: Homecoming is going to be a fun summer movie. It’s probably well-written and engaging! It looks like a good movie about a teenage superhero coming into his own and I’m excited about the diverse cast.
It also, in my own opinion, looks like a terrible movie about Peter Parker.
There was nothing wrong with the review (it was in USA Today) so much as that literally everything it described made me, a person who loves Peter Parker, cringe. Full disclaimer that I haven’t seen Homecoming yet and it’s plausible I might like it in the end! I won’t, but it’s plausible! So everything I’m talking about is based on interviews with the cast and creators/trailers and released scenes/etc.
But I’ve got so much beef with this movie I practically own a cattle ranch.
I’m just going to try to hit my main complaints: Ned Leeds, or, This Should Have Been a Miles Morales Movie, Peter as a New Yorker, Peter Parker vs Spider-Man: A Fake Argument, and Why We Actually Do Need To Know How Ben Died, Thanks. “Traincat, how much have you thought about this?” I don’t want to talk about it! Except I do, under the cut:
1) Ned Leeds. This has been pointed out before, but it bears repeating until all my metaphorical cows come home: Homecoming’s “Ned Leeds” is literally Ganke Lee, Miles Morales’ best friend. Look at Ganke. Now look at 616 Ned. Back to Ganke. Yeah. He looks like him, and he appears to act like him from the little we’ve seen. “Ned” knows Peter is Spider-Man, the way Ganke knows Miles is Spider-Man. Ned is enthusiastic about Peter being Spider-Man, the way Ganke is. Ned’s playing with Legos in a Homecoming trailer, Ganke loves Legos, etc. They didn’t even try to hide the fact that they stole a major Miles Morales character for the benefit of a Peter Parker movie.
It’s possible Ned Leeds will resemble Ned Leeds more closely when the movie comes out, in which case I look forward to Spider-Man 3: Still At Home, where Peter passionately makes out with Ned’s wife and then Ned dies in Germany. But I have my doubts about that.
One of my problems is that I, personally, am not particularly interested in Peter Parker in high school. (WHERE is the movie where he is 30, teaching high school, and played by Alfie Enoch? I want it. You want it. We all want it. Look at him. He’s perfect.) If we’re going to do a teenage Spider-Man, why NOT Miles Morales, who IS the Spider-Man currently in high school, and who HAS been a kid since his introduction several years ago. Peter graduated high school in Amazing Spider-Man #28. There are over 700+ issues of Amazing Spider-Man alone. It’s time to leave the idea of Peter Parker as a character perpetually in high school behind.
BUT, if we were going to make a Teen Peter Parker movie, make it actually about Peter, because the way this is marketed (the gaming laptop commercial? The Audi one where he’s taking a driver’s test? The banking quiz? I cannot think of anything that screams Spider-Man less than German automobiles) sure looks like this is a movie about Relatable Teen Hero Boy-Man, who may be a good kid but he’s not Peter Parker, and who is here to sell you, the viewer, some stuff.
(I cannot believe consumerism giveth the Spider-Mobile, and consumerism taketh it away.)
2) New York! Where I am typing this post from, actually! True story: I never would have even read this review, but my mom read it and to quote: “There’s going to be a problem. Aunt May drives him around.” NAH. N A H. Listen, I know people in New York have cars. I know people in Queens have cars. I know this so well that I have my aunt’s car, which before me sat in a parking lot in Queens 360 days out of the year. Almost any scene you could tell in a regular car, you could tell in a subway car. Also, you can see Washington DC in the trailer, which means that at some point the movie is going to take Peter out of New York, a move I cannot possibly see the point to. I’m going to be an Obnoxious New Yorker for a hot second: Other superheroes might live in New York, but Peter Parker is New York. He has to have a relationship with the city itself. This is one of the things I think The Amazing Spider-Man movies did wonderfully: looking at New York actually felt like looking at New York. The scene with the crane operators, the webbed I LOVE YOU, Gwen’s fire escape, or when he jaywalks through traffic in Union Square. The big fight in Times Square. Homecoming already didn’t FEEL like New York from the trailers and now a chunk of the movie isn’t even taking place in it? Aunt May’s going to drive her nephew around? What’s the point? Why would you strip the New Yorker (”fuck you” means “have a nice day”) from a superhero defined by it?
(PS it’s because Peter is a heavily Jewish-coded character and taking the New Yorker out of him makes him less so. See also, down below, the removal of his guilt/responsibility complex.)
3) He’s Just Always Spider-Man, Guys. The USA Today review also includes a quote from Tom Holland about how “Spider-Man is not Peter Parker” and they’ve “made quite a clear divide between the two” and not to be shady but I think the biggest mistake people make when writing Peter Parker is thinking that there’s ANY difference between Peter and Spider-Man, except that sometimes he has to pretend like lifting the couch takes any effort. He’s always Spider-Man. The kind of confidence you get from being able to throw a Jeep, or crush steel pipes with your bare hands? That doesn’t go away just because you take off a mask. It’s a shallow take. Peter, as a character, isn’t a very reliable narrator of his own personality – you have to look at his actions. Don’t get distracted by his jokes. There’s no divide.
This ties into my problems with the apparently heavy presence of Iron Man – the review calls him a “reluctant father figure” to Peter – beyond my disbelief over not trusting Spider-Man of all characters to carry his own movie. I understand that the MCU is as built over RDJ’s portrayal of Tony Stark as the 616 Universe is built on the legacy of the Fantastic Four, but one of the things I keep in mind when writing Peter is that he doesn’t truly respect anyone else’s authority but his own. As soon as that spider bit him, that was it, he was his own ultimate authority. And now he’s the “Kid Avenger” and Iron Man is making all his tech? Why, when Captain America: Civil War went out of its way to highlight that he’s a tech genius? Why the effort to make Peter Parker less than he is? Oh, right, Relatable Teen Hero Boy-Man. As an advertiser’s daughter, I don’t like being so OBVIOUSLY sold “Spider-Man! He’s just like you! Buy an Audi.”
4) Ben Parker Must Die. Uncle Ben’s death won’t be shown in the movie, they said! HUZZAH, a million voices cried out, drowning out my own cries of, BUT HOW DO I KNOW WHO PETER PARKER IS IF I DON’T KNOW THE EXACT CIRCUMSTANCES OF BEN PARKER’S DEATH.
But this is fine, I said. This is okay. You don’t need to show Ben Parker’s death to feel the impact of it, of course! A skillful storyteller can get around that easily!
Yeah uh so Ben’s death isn’t going to have a large impact on Peter in the movie at all, apparently, which is AN ISSUE when this is THE defining moment.
From this article:
As for why Ben was left out, Watts says he wanted to go all out on focusing on how awesome it would be to become Spider-Man, going from a geeky teen to possessing superhuman powers. Dealing with the fact that Peter is partially guilty for a loved one’s death would have put the dampers on that.
Cool cool cool so you wanted the power and you didn’t want the responsibility. To quote tumblr user myvisagewasted: “Literally the thematic point of Spider-Man is that if you can shatter someone’s face, you GOTTA put a damper on that” and I 10000% agree. Peter, in 616, was initially selfish with his powers. He was an angry teenager who declared he’d only take care of his aunt and his uncle, and that “the rest of the world can go hang.” The Uncle Ben dies, and Peter starts to change. Putting “dampers” on the awesomeness of suddenly being as strong as forty men is called character development, and stripping the guilt complex from Peter is, whether intentional or not, further attempts to hide the character’s Jewish coding. You don’t have to dwell on how much of an impact Ben Parker’s death made on Peter, but I do strongly believe you cannot brush it off because it wouldn’t be fun.
(Ask me about murder lovebirds Spideytorch, or, What If? Uncle Ben’s Death Didn’t Change Peter.)
How Ben dies also matters with regards to who Peter is – for example, in Spider-Man Noir, Ben dies before Peter becomes Spider-Man, and he isn’t shot but rather ripped to shreds and partially eaten by the Vulture. As a result, Noir!Peter is PRETTY COOL with guns and shooting people, whereas 616 Peter has an extreme aversion. If there’s no specifics about Ben’s death, how do we know who Peter is?
Anyway I also believe Peter isn’t his fully formed self until he feels partially responsible for the deaths of three loved ones, so. There’s that. (George Stacy Or Appropriate George Stacy Stand-In Also Must Die.)
Anyway, this has been Traincat’s Unpopular Spider-Man Opinions, the Homecoming edition, thank you for reading, I’m still gonna see the movie because I love Liz Allan and I am Doing It For Her. And also to see if I was right about 10 different theories. Send in the clones.

From fan(girl) to a fan
I’ve seen that many or the artist ( not only graphic artists but also writers) have been having troubles with art theft.
People using /claming/ editing without permit/ reposting their work . And many of us fans don’t understand the severity and repercussions of it, the thing is that the creators spent not only their free time ( time they could have used to learn for test or work a project that would’ve given them money) but also their ideas, which usually don’t come as easy as one thinks; and they share them with us, people that should appreciate their work not only as a way for us to satisfy our geeky need but also as theirs, because publicly shared or not it is still theirs ( like showing a car on a street, if you take a car that is not your is a crime, even I’d it I was publicly parked).
So I know some of you must be tired of these long articles from the artist ranting about the issue, but you want to know why they rant to us? Because we can help them !
If we do what’s in our power to report and stop the thieves then there would be less and less of them.
If you don’t want to bother with this, thinking that it is not your problem, then I will tell you:maybe it is isn’t , but you know what? Would you rather click a report button and still have the art and stories you love, or would you rather don’t do anything and see that art slowly disappearing from public sites ? Because honestly I wouldn’t blame the artist, nobody should, they don’t own us anything. They give us art and in return we should protect or at least respect their art.
So please think of this the next time you read a post from an artist that was art-robbed .
From a fan to a fan, I ask you to help those who have nothing to gain but much to lose from posting their ideas.
Ps: if there are any mistakes, please bear in mind that English is not my native language
Update: there is a blog that is already of the issue>>> @art-defense

It's been a while since I photographed then night sky. This is a picture I shot two nights ago on a moonless sky from a parking lot in Queens🤦♂️.
