So yeah, I've been sitting on many chapters for my "When In Alexandria" fic, trying to polish them since I've had amazing reviews on the first part last season, and I think it'll be time to share the second part very soon, as an offering to my Richonne shippers out there.

If I had to describe the fic When In Alexandria to new readers, I'd say it's a TOWL-inspired horny poetic fic set in Alexandria. ☝🏽🤓

This is still my first fic and wow, writing is so hard.

Keeping up with it is even harder.

Editing is the worst.

But it's all worth it.

In any case, writing isn't for the faint of heart.

But everything one learns on the way can also be impressive, and transformative.

This is definitely personal, vulnerable work, the fear of being judged, evaluated, shamed...

But whatever happen, it was made with love (and more).

Random Bonus Rant

It's only a fic, *yes and* it also is grueling work. To imagine, to write, but also to visit stories within the frame of Western imagination.

Some scenarii we can't escape, and it is what it is, but some others are dangerously reductive, flattening and threatening when we care about life, love and justice.

I'm not writing in my own language partly because of it (it's another story).

I believe fandoms can be amazing, I truly do. But I can't help but interrogate Black women's place in them, whether as real fans or as fictional characters. I've been late to it, because the level of violence and misogynoir in most media and fandom (every, dare I say) is baffling.

We join fandoms to share, imagine and have fun, and since they're not born in a vacuum (insert we live in a society meme here) so of course, it stings. We know this. But it doesn't diminishes the hurt. This bs world has the tendency to recycle said bs, to build and and poison our imagination.

Fic allows me to try something else.

Whatever they do, Black women, storytellers, and the characters looking like them, they always find themselves with the shorter end of the stick. Objectification, hurt, trauma, dehumanization and death are supposed to remain rites of passages, real and fictional, and the more Black women bear, the more...

What?

Nothing.

There is no prize to be won.

There is neither justice, nor meritocracy, or else many a Black woman would be happy billionaires, rather than El*n Fucking M*sk.

Also, fuck billionaires.

Anyway, to cut the adhd rant short:

I love The Walking Dead, and I enjoy critiquing the show just as much.

I love Michonne, and I love Rick.

I looove Michonne, and I looove Richonne.

That's what happened to me last winter:

I watched The Ones Who Live when it first aired. 🤩

I went back to The Walking Dead to binge it all again and fell for it, again, because I've always been a horror fan & a zombie buff. 💀

Also, Danai Gurira's acting and writing ?!!!

I found Richonners online to share my excitement because OMG how could I have missed so much the couple first times I've watched the show? 😵‍💫

I started binge reading fanfics for the first time ever to mitigate the TOWL withdrawls, but it wasn't enough.

I launched a Richonne youtube channel and a tumblr. 📺

I overdosed on yearning and needed to put it into words. ✍️🏽

I started writing a NSFW Richonne fic to cope with the depth of their love & awesomeness, because it was too fucking much for my horny little heart.

And voilà!

Throwback to when I was certain Richonne was a thing.

You know what I love about this scene here? Besides, Michonne is thinking of Rick and Carl on the road.

It's clear that although Rick and Carl said last season, Michonne was one of them. She's still not ready to go all in...and Rick is patient. Let her go for 30 days on the road, and he's stayed quiet. But now that she's in front of him, he will take a chance. He puts on the charm when he's practically asking her to stay, letting her know he wants and needs her here.

Then it's clear as Daryl looks at Rick when he says that it's Rick that's been worried, that he's voiced his concerns to her brother-in-law, who's just as concerned with Michonne running off and keeping her distance from their family.

Oh, and she's still somewhere else. Rick is frustrated. I had never looked at his face before, but he was frustrated that Michonne was already thinking about leaving. It's been 30 days, and she has one foot out the door.

We see her soon-to-be son expressing that he missed her while she was away and just as frustrated as his dad that not only has she been on the road and it's dangerous, but Michonne has yet to spend time with them.

Michonne- she's doing the usual of their routine over the summer, promising that though she's away, she'll always come back home.

It's confirmed with no dialogue that Rick is worried and talks to Daryl about Michonne. Daryl gives him a reassuring pat, saying, "I'll talk to her. I got this."

Daryl confronts her a few episodes when they're on the run, telling Michonne she's been running off (I think these are the words Rick has used with Daryl- she's running off, keeping her distance)

Michonne is taking breaks. (Who could blame her with the PTSD of losing her son, partner, and friend). But what Michonne is doing, according to her, is finding the governor to end things and avenge Andrea's death. Though true, Rick also knows she's not quite ready to be fully a part of the family, at home, with Carl, and with Rick.

Oh, and we know that Rick has been waiting for her to stop taking breaks.

When everything is broken, their home is gone, and Michonne is enlightened that Rick and Carl are her family. She says this:

She's ready to go all in emotionally to their family and build a home, a foundation with Rick.

Lastly, my favorite! Rick, though beaten, is clearly happy and hopeful that Michonne will be there.

It's how I knew they would be family.

Y'thenna Moonsoul: Reference Sheet

Y'thenna's newest refsheet! I wasn't really happy with my last one, but I'm super happy with this one, and all the subtle differences between them.

Her "Mortal Bare" form is basically her completely without any powers from the Blue Child, usually only seen before it was revealed (and connected to it) to her that she was an Incarnation of the Blue Child shortly after the war of thorns.

Her Mortal empowered form is what she currently looks like after she connected to her full self. this is pretty much what shw always looks like now.

The "Goddess" form is really only seen when the Blue Child is using their Kaldorei avatar form. The main differences between her empowered form and her goddess form is her avatar is brighter in general, she has no tattoos, and has eyelashes reminiscent of a Moonpetal Lily.

The Greenwood Empire - The Search

The final step to becoming a leader in the Empire is to put their spirits in the paws of their Ancestors and the Souls that guide them. Though rumors of nine lives are often waved off by others as a Queen’s Tale, the sukeme of the Empire know good and well that they’re all true. Escorted by their starmender to the Moon’s Fang, potential leaders touch their nose to the sacred stone and find themselves placed in a fairly vulnerable state as their spirits are transported to the Starlands.

When they awaken in the Starlands, they will be in what is called The Three Borders - a somewhat uncreative name for where all three territories in the Starlands touch each other. Sitting around them will be nine, small creatures - the sacred animals of the Great Souls and the Spirits ready to lead them deeper.

Lives have to be volunteered by the ones donated.

The Spirits known to the Empire through their myths and tales are known to touch down within the Starlands at times, taking the forms of their parents’ sacred animals to visit a cat they believe deserving of their blessings and knowledge before seeming to vanish among the stars once more. On the mortal side of things, nine of the anima that were closest to the potential leader or can make a good case as to why they should be brought into the drawing step forward to offer a life. Once they’ve chosen, they scatter throughout the Starlands; waiting for the life-reciever to begin their Search.

The cats often start with their Spirit Lives as they’re usually considered the most important. Spirits are fickle, powerful beings that are quick to wander away once they’ve lost interest. The factions tend to place high value on attaining spirit lives as they’re considered great blessings; granting strength to the cat in vein of their domains. Some spirits are more likely to offer lives than others - Hanimu the Orphan and Siyeyim the Planner being the most prolific while hardly any leader has truthfully ever seen Huyewa the Dreamer or Haanuki, the Harbinger. These spirits often set up a test of some sort that would challenge the cat, forcing them through a scenario of their making in an attempt to see if there’s still a spark of what drew the spirit to them in the first place. They tend to hold timed events, should a leader not complete a scenario in enough time it will fade and the Spirit will leave without granting a life.

On the mortal side, things are a bit more… emotionally taxing. Though Spirit lives require a lot of mental energy for imagined scenarios, mortal spirits often bring up a key memory or moment. The anima will hide in a created location of significance they need to the life-reciever to understand. It could be witnessing again the death of someone dearly loved or a critical mistake that cost the receiver a lot - mortal challenges are what makes it so taboo to attempt to force a leader to speak about their Search. 

With timed events and draining encounters, it’s not surprising to discover that it’s fairly rare for a leader to collect a full set of nine lives. Often the ceremony is so draining and exhausting that a leader will wake up early from the sheer stress that weighs on their minds, ending the ceremony and preventing them from gaining any further lives - there are some who manage to press on, forcing themselves through the pain and remaining in status but it leaves them incredibly weak when they reawaken. Ultimately however, waking early is the better of the option. Some anima will set a short limit to how long the receiver can spend on their life while others will easily give them the rest of the night - and those that linger for too long risk a terrible fate.

For when the sun rises, no longer does Moonsoul’s Fang work as necessary - the sunlight severs the tether from the living and the dead and then the Mother Maw awaken; devouring the remaining spirit from the leader’s body leaving nothing but a crystallized skeleton in its place.

Should a leader survive their ceremony however they will receive a sigil marking them for whichever Soul had left the largest impression upon their Soul - determined by the number of lives gained in their honor. These marks are branded upon their foreheads for all to see - though starmenders are capable of sensing and reading the remaining energy in the sigil which conveys the number of lives a leader has left.

Most leaders keep their list of lives and what happened to them strictly between themselves, their starmender and perhaps a mate or a best-friend.

TOWL magic in Alexandria ❤️‍🔥

I love listening to Danai Gurira talk about Michonne and Rick’s characters & relationship. After watching The Ones Who Live, I got to this interview about episode 4 "What We", and I believe it planted the seed of an idea for my first fanfic When In Alexandria.

Their story is so compelling, and as she explains so well, this episode had to have them talking, finally. So much has happened.

Things between them couldn't stay inferred anymore, and they had to express themselves to find each other again. Danai the playright was about to show us how it's done, and Oh boy, she did !

Danai was so specific and detailed in her writing, and it shows, it can be felt thanks to their incredible acting performances. The theatre quality of writing of also makes up for a perfect bottled emotional episode that I can't get enough of.

So I started writing, and it took me a couple of chapters before understanding that what I was trying to do, was to bring some of that DG magic to The Walking Dead Alexandrian arc when, after a very difficult time on the road, they find themselves struggling to adjust to the new community.

I wanted to experiment with what could have happened, specifically with Rick and Michonne, if they actually took the time to talk to each other. What would they say, what would they learn, what would be revealed by the change of environment...?

It's also born out of frustration about the way Michonne’s character has been handled at that point of the story in the show, like so many Black women characters who are obvious love interests for the main protagonist, but neither the writers nor the fandom (bros and other racists) can deal with their white hero being in love with such a sensible and badass woman who happens to be Black.

Even if the actors couldn’t be more obvious in their performances, Andrew Lincoln being the incredible ship captain that he was, we barely get to access Michonne's layers once they get to Alexandria. She's on the sideline, so the Jessie mess can happen, and it's really not gracefully done in my opinion.

I love the fact that Michonne remains quite mysterious, to us and to Rick, and I wanted to try and find a way to make Richonne happen as soon as the group get there, because it made sense to me and to a lot of us I believe.

I am no Danai Gurira of course, and it's my first attempt at fiction, but I put all my heart in it, and I'm now approaching 20 chapters, a few dozen thousand words and having a blast.

So if you’re still in TOWL withdrawls, if you like The Walking Dead, and you enjoy Rick and Michonne the way I do, maybe you'll enjoy the first 13 chapters too. NSFW.

The Legionary's Charter - 02C (Gales): Standard Conduct Regulations

The Galespun is a very odd faction both to outsiders who know little about the empire and those within it who know it well. There are so many differences between the way the Galespun operates and the way the others operate that some wonder if they should even be classified as a faction.

The truth is that the Galespun have maintained the most similarity to their founders of all of the Greenwood factions - from their dual leaders being adopted from Breeze Mantle and Fading Gale, to their hunting habits leading to two distinct crafts to having no designated denwright’s rank.

The Galespun are very proud of their archaic fashions, proudly proclaiming to be the living remnants of the Old Empire - this pride for their Ancient ways shows itself in their strict adherence to the code; offering only a few modifications where necessary.

1) A legionary shall defend his faction from all that seeks to destroy it

2) A legionary is expected to maintain platonic relations with other factions

a) Non-platonic relations with other factions will be met with demotion

b) Non-platonic relations are permitted among merchants and drifters

3) A legionary is expected to respect and abide by the territory lines drawn in the empire

a) Should borders need to be crossed, the one crossing is expected to don a diplomat’s circuit as a display of peace

b) Starmenders are permitted to cross borders without circuits in times of emergency

c) The only respectable border is one that is clear - a faction who neglects to mark their borders open themselves up to territory challenges

d) A legionary caught poaching repeatedly shall be outskirted and made to repay the faction they’ve stolen from

4) Cubs are the future and elders are the past - they are always to be fed first

a) In times of famine, caesars shall eat last and their lieutenants only before them

5) Prey shall only be killed to be eaten

Y'thenna Moonsoul redesign - The Blue Child

I just remembered that ShadowClan queens canonically sneak out of the nursery to join patrols... that's hilarious. What's Brightflower's most memorable moments from her time as a queen? And did Yellowfang ever catch her sneaking away?

Brightflower was a very crafty queen - she noticed rather quickly that the reason most queens were found out was because they made the mistake of sneaking onto border watches. Because the watches have specific posts, it's easy for the menders to just stride out and drag them home.

So in the dead of night, she'd sneak out with her kits - her excuse would be that she's getting them used to being awake during proper Shadow hours, this way they couldn't wake up from a nap complaining they can't find her and give her away - then they'd go to Moonsoul's Pool when she'd let them goof around.

While Yellowkit, Nutkit and Rowankit played - she would sprint out into the wider marsh to enjoy herself and catch as much as she can. She rotated which part of the forest she slept in. Sagewhisker would swear up and down that Brightflower was sneaking out but she could never prove anything.

Yellowfang was a bit of an enabler lmao. She caught Brightflower sneaking out all the time because she knew where her mother liked to hide - but instead of ratting her out, she just kitsat her younger siblings to keep them quiet.

Brightflower's most outrageous moment was when Sagewhisker - determined to drag her back to camp this time - managed to track her down. Before she could be seen, Brightflower took a full-blown sprint towards one of the taller trees and scrambled as high up as she could. The trees in Creeping Shadows territory don't have any low branches anymore so she just clung there, upside-down covered in mud from hiding her scent praying to all nine Souls that Sagewhisker didn't look up.

She was found out when she got back to camp because she didn't have the time to clean the mud out of her fur but by then, she was already back in the nursery so Sagewhisker couldn't do anything.

Yellowfang still cackles in the stars about that whole incident

The Last Grimes

Some context before a rant:

I can’t believe some people still exclude Michonne and RJ from the Grimes family. I saw an old post with Judith tagged as #TheLastGrimes, and a recent one claiming Michonne wasn’t Judy’s mother? I beg your pardon? (yes, it was on twitter).

Since the early days on the mothership, TWDU fandom has been so oblivious to racist bias and tropes, to the point of marginalizing Michonne fucking Grimes from her own family, the hero, supermom and wife, who *actually* raised "the last Grimes" mind you!

We really don’t respect Black women, their labour, their love and loyalty, neither irl nor in fiction.

This shows up everyday in very real ways in our lives. Whether for Black girls, gals, wives, girlfriends, single mothers, baby mamas, widows and their children. Whether they gave birth to their children or not, whether they’re mixed or not, Black motherhood is systematically denigrated. I wouldn’t recommend to anyone who doesn’t see how disastrous these optics are to engage with this.

The disrespect of Black women, the erasure of mixed children, claiming ownership of kids one didn’t raise, minimizing the bonds of a new family... See, I don’t fuck with that bs and it will be read as anti-Blackness and misogynoir on my part. People can argue with a wall.

The Grimes all chose each other, went to hell, and only some came back. A lot of us wanted nothing more than to see them reunited and finally at peace, and we did. Such canon is too much for some. Not for me. It was well-earned, by the characters as well as by the audience, and so refreshing in such cynical times. On one hand, I wish I could see more of them, on the other, I’d rather not have anyone mess it up (shout out to our TOWL S2 truthers out there though ^^).

I honestly pity those who’ve imprisoned themselves in blood lineages and narrow 'legitimate' families, unable to grasp the gifts of community and found family in a freaking post apo zombie show. That must honestly be depressing in deed...

Whether we are called dramatic or aggressive, Richonners will keep calling this out, especially Black women who don’t even need to do anything to deserve those exhausted epithets in everyday life. We see the double standards, we see the fans defending their buddies’ racist takes, we see the apparently infinite plausible deniability and benefit of the doubt afforded to some, never to others. It's not bright, it's not new, and we know the game.

No wonder this fandom can feel so segregated sometimes.

The War Within: OC Whereabouts

An'ora Sunstrider: She was drawn to Silithus by her investigations with Alleria for Xal'atath, the Radiant Song, and a message from Thrall. She was there for the fall of Dalaran, and is the main one going through the campaign. An'ora experiences the Radiant Song second most than any of [my ocs], but not as intensely as Anduin.

Desnomia Blythe: Although she does not receive visions of the Radiant Song (due to her shadow ascendance & void magic use), but she accompanies An'ora though the campaign because he does not trust her to be in the right frame of mind after losing Khadgar.

Starigosa: She was not experiencing visions, nor was she in dalaran at the time of it's fall, however when Jaina and Thrall spread the word of what is happening she quickly journeys to Khaz Algar to both aid and avenge her dear friend. She experiences two visions, once when she arrives, and once when shes Beladar, however that is it.

Zunagosa: She (of course) stayed behind with her family in the dragon isles. She bounces between being with Ebyssian, her older siblings (Stellagosa, Berazus, Kharmeera, & Solyxia) and Emmigosa, and the little scales daycare.

Mireera: Mireea is in the Dragon Isles. She spends her time split between spending time with Kalec, and in the little scales daycare.

Solyxia: She actually joins Starigosa in going to Khaz Algar, much to Ebyssian and her sibling's dismay. Starigosa was okay with her coming, however she couldn't leave her mother's side.

Lyndra'thel Darksong: She, similarly to Desnomia, does not experience the visions, but she joined Jaina to Silithus. She was there for Dalaran, and decided to go with Jaina and Thrall to gather aid. She asked Desnomia to watch over An'ora for her, as she still feels for her as her (former) princess and kin.

Elizabeth Wrynn: She was brought out of hiding with her (now three) wolves by Jaina. She was there for the Dalaran crash, however she does not particapate in the campain for a while, as she is caring for the survivors of the crash. After a while, she then goes off to find those taken prisoner with Silesia.

Silesia Nyrwyn: She did not know of anything going on (aside from people receiving visions) She was simply in Dalaran to visit her mother, Shannon Noel. During & after the fall she is searching for her mom, and later joins her half sister, Lizzy, to find her. During the fall of Dalaran Silesia's illusion of her being a red eyed half elf breaks, reveling her true self for the rest of the expansion. During her journey she tells Elizabeth the truth of Silesia/Illyana's past, and the two bond.

Drozaka Emberforge: She is on outland searching for both survivors and information of the Whiteclaw clan, so she has no idea what is going on on Azeroth.

Y'thenna Moonsoul: As she received the visions most often and intensely of any of [my ocs], she came to Silithus to discover and figure out what was going on, however she left Dalaran moments before the attack due to having to check on a member of her family that became gravely injured. When she arrives to Khaz Algar with Jaina and others, she spends her time healing the injured of not only the surviors of Dalaran, but any she meets. Y'thenna only stops to investigate and aid the Haranir.

Beasts of the Prides - The Mother Maw

Arguably the most famous myth of the Prides, the Mother Maw was an enormous, scaled beast that roamed the world destroying all that was in its wake. It was always hungry, eating everything it could ever fit into its mouth - it's said there used to be others like it but the creature's gluttony was so great, it ate them all; leaving Mother Maw the last of its species.

One would think it was to be avoided at all costs, but the Moonstone rests within the open cavity of the beast's chest, Moonsoul themself stabbing it through with their power to keep it immobilized. It is during these moments that cats make access Silverpride as Moonsoul's powers create a tangible link to the stars.

The Legionary's Charter - 02B (Shores): Standard Conduct Regulations

The Shorerisen find themselves in the interesting position of being neither the most lax faction, nor the most strict when it comes to their laws. They found themselves with a weighted system of worship not unlike the Stormborn though their favoritism rests at the paws of Riversoul and his daughter, Huyewa. The Shores believe themselves to be the favored of all the gods but especially their patron god - rarely do the Shorerisen ever go without food, rarely is their home barracks ever raided by the other factions. The Shorerisen would make it out to be that they’d never faced a hardship in their lives, insistent on the reminder that Waving Shore - their founder - had existed on the island long before the other faction leaders had ever set paw on their land. They are thus a very spiritual faction - not quite as superstitious as the Fennyielders or as rigid as the Galespun - always keeping an ear pricked for what Riversoul has to say on a situation; willing to adhere to whatever he decrees.

1) A legionary shall defend his faction from all that seeks to destroy it

2) A legionary shall retain strictly platonic relationships with members of the other factions

a) Non-Platonic relations between high-ranking members of different factions shall be demoted

b) Should a high-rank be Soul-Chosen, it is left up to the Souls themselves to decide punishment

c) Non-Platonic relations between a legionary and a loner is permitted provided the relationship is kept quiet, and the partner does not poach

3) A legionary is expected to respect and abide by the territory lines drawn in the empire

a) Should borders need to be crossed, the one crossing is expected to don a diplomat’s circuit as a display of peace

b) Starmenders are permitted to cross borders without circuits in times of emergency

c) The only respectable border is one that is clear - a faction who neglects to mark their borders open themselves up to territory challenges

d) A legionary caught poaching repeatedly may be made to hunt for the other faction before they are allowed to eat themselves

4) Cubs are the future and elders are the past - they are always to be fed first

a) A Styrman has multiple lives and is expected to sacrifice one in the face of famine upon their faction

5) Prey shall only be killed to be eaten

a) A legionary does not torment their prey

b) A legionary offers thanks to the prey, to Slysoul and to Treesoul for its life

6) Summits are held at the Kirkyard from the moment Sunsoul’s Eyes are Widest to when Moonsoul’s Eyes have begun to close - there is to be no spilled blood during these times

a) A legionary who violates the peace during these nights shall be demoted to cadet tasks until the next moon

b) A cadet who violates the peace during these nights will be barred from attending the next Unity Games and held back from promotion if they were close

c) A legionary who violates the peace more than three times will be barred attendance from all future Unity Games

7) Mercy and Honor is what separates the Empire from a cruel band of rogues united under one banner - a faction is expected to help a creature in need

a) NO faction may ignore the cries of a cub in need and to do so to invite stillbirths and misfortune

b) Should a non-moggi cub be located, it is acceptable to pass them off to the Stormborn

8) No legionary should ever enter battle intending to end a life

a) A legionary’s body shall be returned to their faction for burial rites

b) A body that cannot be returned should be substituted with a totem
