Alright, I'm a bit annoyed with some statements indicating Misty's MPM gig was only temporary, or more accurately, she's back to being a Gym Leader after MPM, both on Bulbapedia and on Twitter. So I'm posting some things making clear Misty was if anything resuming her journey, not resuming Gym duties.
These screencaps were from her appearance in Alola, Alola when she first appeared and explained her presence:
Note the last screencaps, or two even. She specifically mentioned the reason she was at Alola, or rather, away from the gym, is because they have had so many Gym Challengers since meeting Ash for a field trip, and needed a break. On a similar note, a rather unappreciated bit about that scene is that it also implies Misty's sisters by that point had cleaned up their act and actually ARE serious battlers this time, which they weren't as late as the prior cameo she had based on this scene from the Japanese version of Alola, Kanto:
Not to mention Misty made it VERY clear in Date with Delcatty as well as both her appearances in AG that the reason she temporarily had long-term Gym Leader status was because her sisters were unreliable and prone to handing out badges, so the fact that she even entrusts them to watch the gym even temporarily, much less for any long-term/permanent basis would definitely imply Misty's sisters definitely are taking their battling abilities seriously this time.
But anyways, to get back to the overall point. This is what she says when reuniting with Ash in MPM:
Note just how different her terminology was. She makes absolutely no mention of a break, vacation, or anything that suggests it was purely a short-term departure from the gym. Far from it, she specifically indicated she set off on a journey, which suggests a far longer-term departure from the gym than her prior appearances since GCYL. That definitely doesn't point to Misty merely being on temporary leave at all, and I would have said this even if I DID prefer Misty being on the gym (I don't, BTW, not after the messup AG did with the Gym Leaders, and besides, being a Gym Leader won't get her very far into her Water Pokemon Master goal. Blaine, Flint, Candice, and various others made that very clear).
And when we get to the final episode of Ash's run, and by extension Misty and Brock's, this is the transcript for what Misty's saying (note, since this is based on the Japanese version, I'm putting the English names in brackets).
Misty: Well, [Cerulean] City is this way. (Psyduck pops out of Pokeball, then hugs Pikachu goodbye) Misty: I had a lot of fun traveling with you again. Ash & Brock: Yeah. Brock: Please tell the Sisters of [Cerulean] Gym that [Brock] sends them his kindest regards! [Misty presumably says too close] Precisely! I want to get closer to the-- (Croagunk pops out and Poison Jabs him) Brock: I'm going numb... Misty: (waving goodbye) [Ash]! [Brock]! Bye! Ash & Brock: See ya! Take care!
The only time Cerulean Gym was even brought up was when Brock eagerly tells Misty to say hi to her sisters for him. Nothing even REMOTELY suggesting she's going back to the gym to resume duties, which is ESPECIALLY unusual since the prior times she departed (not counting Alola, Kanto since that was different from the norm in that if anything, Ash visited her rather than the other way around) she usually makes it explicit that she has to return to the gym, or otherwise circumstances pop up that make it very clear she has to leave for the gym (ie, A Real Cleffa Tale had Daisy calling Misty basically threatening to hand out badges again). Might as well add Brock's transcript since this also implies some details as well:
Brock: All right, then... It's this way to [Pewter] City. I'll be off, too. Ash: Okay. Look after yourself. Brock: Let's go, [Croagunk]. (Turns to wave goodbye) See you, [Ash]! Ash: Yeah! Let's travel together again!
This last bit is particularly interesting, since it implies that at the very least Brock, if not Misty as well, were merely going back for layovers (and we definitely know Brock isn't resuming Gym Duties, either. He's been retired since Pewter City Showdown). Sure, I'd prefer Misty resumed her goal with Ash, but as far as I'm concerned, her even journeying at ALL rather than being stuck in a gym is still a huge success ultimately. Oh, and here's the video the above transcripts came from:
youtube
Quite frankly, saying Misty's resuming gym duties and even implying she's a Water Pokemon Master from that is an insult to her character that I won't abide by, especially when it's made clear from evidence in the show that it's nowhere CLOSE to that goal.

You know I just don’t understand when some people claim that Ash “rejected” or “friendzoned” Misty in GCYL. How could he do any of that when she didn’t even confess to him? I can understand why some people might choose to interpret her line “ I know how you feel” that way because it was pretty ambiguous. But then I thought that had she felt that he didn’t feel the same, then why did she leave with such a peaceful smile on her face, she was still hung up on her feelings in Cerulean blues when she rejected that Georgio guy, why would she turn down another guy when she knew that she had no chance with him? I am pretty sure Ash liked her back and he showed that through several instances to the viewers as well.
I've never interpreted that scene that way (as Ash rejecting her.) I mean, Ash literally talks about how he doesn't think he and Misty meeting was a coincidence, so to me that's got some pretty heavy meaning behind it.

She does have a bit of a point. Lt. Surge and Koga aside, Ash hadn't actually earned many of his badges the way he was supposed to by actually beating them. I wouldn't quite say making the GLs feel sorry for Ash was a particularly accurate statement (He won his badges via showing some honor regarding not taking a finishing blow from a cheap shot, saving the gym twice, and making the gym leader laugh to regain some stability), but I understand what she was trying to go for (I mean, let's face it, the point behind Gym Leaders is to test you battling capabilities to see if you qualify for what is essentially a fighting tournament. Doing heroics like saving a gym, while commendable, are hardly good qualifiers for a fighting tournament. Heck, in GSC, you have to essentially do a similar bit of heroics regarding Olivine City regarding curing an Ampharos, yet Jasmine insisted you fight her anyways. Even Blaine made it very clear he is not going to give Ash the badge just because he saved the gym, just allow him a proper rematch. The closest it got to actually being earned for feeling sorry for someone was from Brock and Misty's Sisters' initial attempt before Misty interfered, and even THERE, the pity party if anything was meant to be directed to THEM, not Ash.).
As far as that last bit... Ah, Misty... you MIGHT want to be careful with that statement, especially considering the notorious mishandling of the Gym Leaders that we get from AG onward up to I guess XY that essentially made them Team Rocket regarding skills, or lack thereof. Let's just say that exact same question can be posed to the Gym Leaders in Hoenn, Sinnoh, and Best Wishes (well, Sinnoh to a lesser extent, at least they made Ash's rookie team struggle. Too bad it was in a clearly forced manner that affected Pikachu as well). Even moreso considering what happened to you after GCYL.
You know, I guess it does make sense Misty is a water-type trainer, because my girl is ICE COLD.

Well, I just read up on Bulbapedia the major events of the episode. Until an actual sub for the episode gets published later today (and even there, I won't be able to watch it until at the very least after I get off work tonight as I have a very late shift, and more likely than not do so tomorrow morning), that's all I can get for now. And I can verify that Misty, Ash, and Brock indeed went their separate ways. It says Misty returned to Cerulean City. Though it does NOT specify whether or not Misty's resuming Gym Leader duties, so that does give me some degree of hope for the time being that she's still going to pursue her Water Pokemon Master goal, at least until either a sub is published, or a full synopsis. Won't find out firmly one way or another until either tonight or tomorrow morning (I'm going to be working a late shift tonight). Until I learned exactly what happened in GCYL, I thought Misty left to do her own journey, so I'm really hoping that it's just a layover sort of like what Ash did with Pallet Town, and not an indication that she's resuming gym duties (Brock's explicitly not a gym leader anymore, so it's pretty clear his heading to Pewter City was for layover purposes. Misty's the only one with that ambiguity right now.).
As far as Ash, it doesn't seem to elaborate much on what a Pokemon Master actually entails, which seems to be a mark against it. Though it DOES at least have Ash actually reuniting with his Pidgeot, apparently even reacquiring it from what I gather in both Bulbapedia and Serebii.net. Took way too long if you ask me, as they really should have had them reunite back during the Battle Frontier. I could forgive him not reuniting during the layover period between Orange Islands and Johto since they really didn't have enough time due to Ash needing to head to Professor Kurst in Johto to analyze the GS Ball (a plot point that ended up dropped thanks to 4Ever. Really poor choice, especially when they could have done something similar to the first movie and have the GS Ball addressed, then have some bits leading into the movie, then reissue the scenes in the movie. But nevertheless...). But Battle Frontier, like all things Kanto related, was a really huge missed opportunity for Ash to reunite with Pidgeot.
After that... not sure what will happen regarding Pokemon other than most likely not needing to pray to God to bring Misty back before going to bed. I guess I'll try to get Pokemon Home sometime in the next few weeks to make up for lost time. Probably also see if I can binge-watch all Pokemon episodes in the near future if needs be (though with my work schedule that will probably be pushed into the future). May also try to play and complete all Pokemon games when the time comes, including the ones I missed such as Platinum, Gen V, Gen VI, a full attempt at Gen VII, and Gen VIII (not sure about Gen IX, though, since that was around the time TCPi was starting to get woke).

Why do you think Misty didn’t confess to Ash in the GCYL episode? She did have a crush on him and I think she bottled up those feelings inside for long enough. Even if she didn’t directly feel like confessing, she could have thrown a hint here and there that she thought of him as more than a friend. Did she fear rejection? Or may be she thought it would have been a little too much for him to handle?
Speaking strictly from the view of the characters, my best bet would be that Misty fears his rejection. She is shown to be very self confident, but I don't think she's totally solid in that regard and that she sometimes uses it as a façade. I think Cerulean Blues from Pokémon Chronicles is a perfect example of this: Misty is lacking the confidence to believe she can be a successful gym leader, especially without the support of Ash and Brock. It shows that she isn't always as confident as she comes across. So, I think she does have a fear of being rejected by Ash, particularly if it would in some way impact their friendship.

Honestly, this episode does a lot to explain some of Misty's issues. And personally, contrary to popular opinion, I'd argue the actual outcome of Ash and Misty's battle before Team Rocket literally gatecrashing was way too ambiguous to really say whether Ash surpassed her or not (we got far more of a clear sense of Ash surpassing Brock two episodes ago than we did here, especially when this episode made clear Staryu, Starmie's evolutionary predecessor, was able to heal itself via water, and a later episode also implied that Starmie would have done the same thing if given the opportunity.). Put another way, Misty had every reason to, as TV Tropes put it, be "sour grapes" regarding the match, since it was way too ambiguous to really call the match in Ash's favor (literally the only reason he got the badge was due to saving it, which isn't good enough for a fighting tournament like the Pokemon League). And don't think she wouldn't have wished for Ash to win, either: Based on her disappointed reaction to Ash throwing the towel against Brock despite having the clear opportunity to defeat Brock, she definitely wasn't the type to want Ash to lose. If anything, she would want Ash to win against her if he used all his effort. A side note, Misty never convinced Pikachu to not fight her, he decided that ENTIRELY by himself. The most Misty did was thank him for being a "Pika Pal."
It also hints a bit that her sisters may have been stronger than her, which also makes the removal of Misty and how it was done come across as especially more distasteful (when you think about it, the Sensational Sisters are actually her long-term rivals, so reducing them to be hopelessly incompetent and irresponsible like GCYL and especially AG did managed to do a complete disservice to all four of them).

I have come across people who say that misty was friendzoned by ash in gotta catch ya later episode. I never understood how? What are your thoughts on this?
I would like to know why they think that? Also I thought we as a society had decided to stop using the term "friendzone"? Is that not the case?? Lol.
Anyway, I don't have much new to say on the subject after all these years, so I'll link to some of my other asks/posts about the matter: Here, here, here.
#asks#anon#pokeshipping#there are probably more posts on my blog about this but these were the#only ones i found when i searched for GCYL

In GCYL, you think Ash was more saddened by the fact that Misty was leaving? Or did he cry for both her and Brock? Because Brock did leave them before and he was happy for him. Or was it the realisation that suddenly he was left alone? After all this was the first time that both of his friends were leaving him. Or it somehow subconsciously perturbed him that Misty was leaving and he can’t do anything about it? Thoughts?
I'm going to start my answer to this by stating outright that I'm no fan of GCYL. In the past few years I've just become really disenchanted with it and I just see it for what it is: a glorified admittance by the Pokémon writers team that they didn't know what they were doing with Misty, so they chose to force her out of the show. I will admit that there is something to be said about how Misty's the one companion and Pokegirl who didn't leave Ash by choice but that doesn't excuse the team from how obvious it was that Season 5 as a whole was a last minute effort to try and cram some character into Misty as a Trainer. Very bad overall in my eyes.
When it comes to Ash crying at the end...I think there are two ways of looking at it: the probable intention by the writers and the fan interpretation. I say the probable intention because of Brock's supposed leaving, which in context of what happened in AG, just rings as the writers just having so little faith in Misty's departure that they just had to have Brock leave too, only to bring him back a few episodes later. He left just to have an extra gut punch. Hell, I suspect they knew he was coming back since he's in the opening and they just wanted to squeeze more tears out of their audience and/or get a Chronicles episode out of him. I think therefore it was meant to be about Ash being alone, but even then I call BS. Both the regular timeline and the AU makes it clear that while Ash will shed a tear or two over leaving friends, he's generally very okay traveling alone - he takes comfort in knowing that people need to do what they need to do. Even in the first episode we saw that Ash was very keen to travel out, no hesitation over not having any friends. One could say it's about this being his first major goodbye and this steels him for later goodbyes but I'm not too sure about this being the case considering how easily he can say goodbye in those later ones.
My feelings therefore are that Ash is upset because it's Misty and his subconscious feelings for her are leaking out. I recall that Ash thought the return of her bike would make Misty happy and that running the Gym was a dream come true, so in my headcanon he sees that as something he shouldn't get in the way of. Meaning that in-part it's him lashing slightly out at his own powerlessness even though he can't understand what he's feeling.

Nice to hear. I'd say Misty's competent in her own right, but definitely (at least at the time Episode 7 was written) not quite to their level regarding battling (which is another reason to hate the forced removal of Misty in GCYL. Misty wasn't the only one who was disrespected that time, her sisters were disrespected as well, and AG just made it worse with the blatant disrespect the Gym Leaders got in that series. Even her sisters were disrespected TWICE in AG by inferring they were so incompetent they literally handed out gym badges like candy to every trainer they met with spurious qualifications at best.). Also helps that they also managed to conquer their flaws as time went on (a truly underappreciated aspect of Orange Islands and especially Johto. Well, for Misty and Ash, anyways. Brock unfortunately got the short end of the stick).
A good way to sum it up was that scene in the Goblet of Fire movie where Harry, Hagrid, Ron, and Hermione reminisce on how they started off and how far they got.
Thinking about the original series of Anipoke and the trio of Ash, Misty, and Brock and how they’re essentially a girlfail and a duo of pathetic men.
Misty is basically a girlfail because she’s the youngest of her four sisters and considered the “runt” and the “least competent” of them and is looked down upon, and as much as she tries to be girly she failed at it and was looked down on others because of it.
Meanwhile Ash is a pathetic sore loser of a kid who was full of himself and had delusions of grandeur but was the considered the dumbest and most incompetent of Pallet Town’s Trainers, especially Gary, and he was always the laughingstock among Trainers.
And then there was Brock, who was a hopeless romantic who tried to get girls endlessly but failed every time.
And that’s what really made them such a great group: it was a pathetic man, a girlfail, and another pathetic man and as much of cringefails as all three of them were individually, together they made a great trio with an excellent chemistry that allowed all three of them to bounce off each other magnificently.
The fact that they were all cringefails made them stand out in their own universe, and made them unique to us viewers in such a way that as much as they were looked down upon in universe, you couldn’t help but root for them all the same, especially Ash.

Translation Time! - “Gotta Catch Ya Later!”
DISCLAIMER: These translations come from a Facebook group that has posted clips of the original Japanese versions of certain episodes with French subtitles. I am not fluent in French, but between what I do know and research aides, I’m moderately confident in these translations; any spots I feel particularly troubled by will be noted. While the subtitles I’m using were written for the Japanese version of these episodes, that still means that this is a translation of the Japanese version by way of another language.
With all that said - let’s take a look at a few key scenes from “Gotta Catch Ya Later!”
(Two more things before we get started: One, if there’s ever a need to go through GCYL again for any reason - trivia, screenshots, to open a wormhole into a parallel universe where magic is real and death has been conquered - someone else can do it. This damn episode tugs at my heartstrings more than any kids show has a right to do to someone less than a year away from 30.
Two: what little of Pokemon I’ve had a chance to see in Japanese, I prefer in Japanese, but this episode is an exception. Mayumi Iizuka’s performance is fine, but I think Rachel Lillis, throughout the episode, has a more broken and vulnerable quality that fits the writing extremely well. I also prefer the song and montage 4Kids came up with; while it is nice that the original version looks back at Misty’s entire time on the show, it’s her separation from Ash that forms the emotional core of her arc in this episode, and I think having a montage that focuses in on that aspect is ultimately more appropriate.)
SCENE: Misty gets the call.
English:
DAISY: Where have yo been, Misty? We’ve been trying to reach you. I was afraid it’d be too late. MISTY: Everything OK? DAISY: TA-DA! Tickets for a trip around the world! I came in third in a beauty competition, and I’m able to bring...two others! MISTY: Huh? DAISY: We, um, kind of figured you wouldn’t be that interested in coming along anyway, so you can cover for us at the Cerulean Gym while we’re seeing the world! MISTY: Hey, hold on a minute! DAISY: We’ll be back before long! MISTY: What just happened...? BROCK: She deserved to win that trip around the world! ASH: They’re lucky. MISTY: Well, I’m not! Why should I be the one who has to go work at the Gym!? ASH: But Misty, it’s only while they’re gone. MISTY: That’s true...
Original:
SAKURA: Kasumi, it’s about time! I thought you wouldn’t get the message in time. KASUMI: What’s happening? SAKURA: TA-DA! These are tickets to go around the world! We just won them in the lottery! And they’re valid for the whole family! We didn’t think you’d be interested, Kasumi, so until our return, we’re counting on you to watch the Hanada Gym! KASUMI: Wait a second - ! SAKURA: Alright, we’re going! KASUMI: She...she hung up!? TAKESHI: What luck! A tour of the world! SATOSHI: I’m jealous! KASUMI: I don’t feel jealous at all! Why is it me who has to watch the Gym!? SATOSHI: I don’t see what’s wrong with that. KASUMI: But...
ANY DIFFERENCES? Misty’s sisters win their tickets in a lottery in the original, not a beauty contest. The dub implied that Misty’s departure from the series might be temporary by adding in the line about how she’ll only be watching the Gym until her sisters get back; in the original, there was no qualifier. And in the original, this scene sets up the next one by having Ash already acting cavalier about Misty’s departure while she’s upset and uncertain about it.
SCENE: Ash gets a clue.
English:
ASH: That’s great! You finally got your bike back! Now you’ll get home fast. MISTY: Whoopty-doo. ASH: Why are you so grouchy? MISTY: I’m not grouchy! Why don’t you just leave me alone!? PIKACHU: Pika! ASH: Uh, Misty? That was weird. What’s wrong? BROCK: I get the feeling that maybe she wanted to keep on traveling with us. ASH: Oh, really?
Original:
SATOSHI: That's great Kasumi! With that [the bike] you'll be able to quickly get home to Hanada! KASUMI: You really don't understand anything! SATOSHI: Why are you angry? KASUMI: Satoshi, you don't understand how I feel! SATOSHI: Kasumi! ...What's she talking about? TAKSHI: Kasumi might not want to stop traveling with us. (Satoshi’s expression falls)
ANY DIFFERENCES? Misty flat-out tells Ash that he doesn’t get it.
SCENE: The walk.
English:
MISTY: I can’t believe how Ash could talk to me like that after all we’ve been through...like it means nothing to him. The worst part...he isn’t even sad about us having to split up...
Original:
KASUMI: Satoshi...we've traveled together until now...it looks like he doesn't care...couldn't he be a little sad?
ANY DIFFERENCES? Not really.
SCENE: “Your bike’s there.”
English:
ASH: You were great, Misty. MISTY: Thanks. I feel a lot better now. ASH: It was awesome, watching you battle like that. MISTY: Thank you, Ash. That’s sweet. And thanks for always being a good friend to me. ASH: Yeah, sure! Misty? MISTY: Yeah? ASH: Your bike’s there. MISTY: Oh... ASH: You’re...in a hurry, right?
Original:
SATOSHI: You did it, Kasumi! KASUMI: Yeah, I feel better now! SATOSHI: Your battle was very impressive! KASUMI: Thank you, Satoshi...to have allowed me to travel with you. SAOTSHI: It's me who should be thanking you! ...Um... KASUMI: What? SATOSHI: Your bike...you're in a hurry, right?"
ANY DIFFERENCES? Misty thanks Ash for letting her travel with him, instead of for being a good friend to her as she does in the dub. On the other hand, Ash says that he’s the one who should be thanking Misty in the original.
SCENE: Lead-in to the montage
English:
MISTY: So Ash - don’t forget your morning rituals. Take a bath and brush your teeth. ASH: I’ll remember. MISTY: And make sure that Pikachu doesn’t eat too much. PIKACHU: Pikachu! MISTY: And now Brock, try not to get too distracted by all the girls. BROCK: (Laughs) MISTY: One more thing... ASH: That’s enough! MISTY: It’s just something that I feel I need to tell you... ASH: Alright. MISTY: Just keep on...doing your best... ASH: Uh, what do you mean? MISTY: Well, you know...without me there...
Original:
KASUMI: Satoshi, remember to wash your face in the morning! SATOSHI: OK. KASUMI: Pikachu, don't eat too much! PIKACHI: Pikachu! KASUMI: Takeshi, stop being a fool around the pretty Trainers you meet! TAKESHI: Hey! KASUMI: And... SATOSHI: Alright, that's enough. KASUMI: If I don't say it, no one will! SATOSHI: OK, OK! KASUMI: It's just...weird... SATOSHI: Kasumi? KASUMI: If I'm not here...
ANY DIFFERENCES? The end of the conversation is a little less focused; the dub used it as a lead-in to their song “Misty Most of All,” which is a terrible pun that makes my eyes tear up every goddamn time.
SCENE: Aftermath of the montage
English:
MISTY: It’s ‘cause of this bike that I met Ash. Togepi, it was a coincidence that you and I met too. ASH: Our wasn’t coincidence. I don’t believe it can be just a coincidence that I met you, out of all people. MISTY: What do you mean, Ash? ASH: I guess what I mean is, even though that happened, I think that we were meant to meet and become friends! BROCK: Me too. We’ve been through so much together on our travels, I’d say we’re best friends now! MISTY: You mean it, Brock? We’re really best friends? ...Yeah!
Original:
KASUMI: If I'd had this bike, nothing would have happened. Togepi, it's by chance that we met. SATOSHI: It wasn't chance. The fact we met couldn't be due to chance! KASUMI: What are you saying? SATOSHI: After all the adventures we've gone through - we became best friends that day! TAKESHI: And these three best friends have traveled together so far! KASUMI: Three best friends?
ANY DIFFERENCES? Not really.
SCENE: Final good-byes
English:
MISTY: Guess I’ll be going this way. ASH: Yeah. MISTY: Take care, Ash. ASH: Mmm-hmm. You too, Misty. MISTY: Will I...see you again? ASH: You will - I swear! BROCK: HOLD EVERYTHING! ASH: What’s gotten into you, Brock? BROCK: Actually, I also have to go back home right away. I got an e-mail saying I had to go back and take care of some errands and stuff, and I almost forgot. ASH: How could you forget something like that? BROCK: Ah, I’m not sure exactly. MISTY: Maybe because you didn’t want to leave? BROCK: Probably. MISTY: I know, Brock. I understand. (Transition) BROCK: Well, I guess this is where we all split up. MISTY: Are you sure you’ll be OK without me, Ash? ASH: I’ll be fine. BROCK: See ya, then. MISTY: Buh-bye... ASH: So long...Misty, thank you...and Brock, I know there’s no way I could’ve ever - BROCK: ...Go on. MISTY: If you have something to say, Ash, then say it. BROCK: Yeah, we’re all ears. ASH: WHA!? Why you creeping up on me like that!? BROCK: Sorry. I forgot to give this to you. ASH: Uh...? BROCK: Something to eat. A lunch-box picnic. With matching cutlery! MISTY: And this - makes it easier to carry. ASH: Misty...you guys... MISTY: Here. ASH: (Tearing up) I guess you guys should go now, huh? MISTY: OK. Take care. BROCK: We’ll miss you. MISTY: Well, Ash Ketchum - finally, I know how you feel about me. BROCK: It must be the onion making my eyes water... ASH: Thank you, Misty - and Brock - I’ll miss you!
Original:
KASUMI: Well, I'm going this way. Take care of yourself. SATOSHI: You too, Kasumi. KASUMI: We'll see each other again?" (NOTE: The subtitles have this down as a statement, but the performance suggests a question; I went with the performance.) SATOSHI: One day, I'm sure! TAKESHI: AAAAAUUUGH! I JUST REMEMBERED! SATOSHI: What’s up with you, Takeshi? TAKESHI: I actually have to go home, too. With all this, I forgot that I had received a letter from my father asking me to come home. SATOSHI: Why didn't you say so before!? TAKESHI: I'd forgotten about it. KASUMI: You managed to forget something like that!? TAKESHI: Perhaps. KASUMI: I see. I understand, Takeshi. (Transition) TAKESHI: Alright Satoshi, we're going. KASUMI: I won't be here to worry about you anymore. SATOSHI: I'll be fine, I tell you. TAKESHI: See you soon! KASUMI: Goodbye! SATOSHI: Thank you, Kasumi...Takeshi...because you were there, I... TAKESHI: You...? KASUMI: If you have something to say, it's now or never. TAKESHI: We're here, we're listening. SATOSHI: You haven't left yet!? TAKESHI: I forgot to give you this. A bento box you can eat, and the cutlery to go with it. KASUMI: Take this to pack it in. SATOSHI: Kasumi...Takeshi... KASUMI: Here. SATOSHI: ...Go on, get going, both of you! KASUMI: See you, Satoshi! TAKESHI: Take care. KASUMI: I understand how you feel, Satoshi. (NOTE: This line could either mean the same thing as the dub - in other words, “I understand how you feel about me” - or it could have a more general meaning of “I understand how you’re feeling about us splitting up.” It isn’t clear, from context or from performance, which is the case. If I had to guess, I’d say the latter is the safer bet, given what the other two say as they go on their separate paths.) TAKESHI: I put too many onions in the onigiri... SATOSHI: Thank you, Kasumi...Takeshi...thank you!
ANY DIFFERENCES? Not really, but if you ever watch this scene in Japanese, be prepared to feel it; Rica Matsumoto sounds as if she actually broke down crying on that final line.)

Just watched Team Rocket Strikes Back. Not sure about the way they ended it (splitting up after in-fighting isn't really in-character for them especially when they stuck around for even worse failures). But hey, considering the writers are the same guys who gave Misty the worst send-off possible about 18 years earlier with GCYL, this is just par the course. Either way, at least they won't be bothering Ash and co. Wonder what will happen next episode, and the one after that which will be the finale. Hopefully they've learned their lesson with Misty and don't put her back in the gym again (ESPECIALLY having her sisters be the ones to force her back there).

Not really, though then again, she barely even cared afterwards outside of an excuse to tag along. She even was upset when the bike was revealed to have been repaired by Nurse Joy since she no longer had any reason to continue with Ash in GCYL after her sisters had infamously forced her into the gym so they'd go for a cruise for three months.
