Adding a copied version of an old post from Pokecommunity that elaborates a bit on what Misty's goal actually entailed (hint: it wasn't simply being a Gym Leader, and if anything, had being a Gym Leader been the goal all along, she would NEVER have left Cerulean Gym in the FIRST place). Kudos to DBZ Fan, or as he's known elsewhere, Pokemon Fan 132, for the post BTW. He has my respect regarding being able to convey far more than I ever can regarding Misty's goal:

Hello everyone, ever since i joined online pokemon fandom subject of Misty water trainer career was crux of lot of debates. Speculations and random theories over the years. So i decided to make this thread to help clear out common misconceptions, possibly unknown things to some of you and lack of knowledge related to Misty career of becoming water pokemon master. Many people believe there was never nothing explained about Misty goal in pokemon anime during 5 years she was main traveling partner coming up with personal headcanons and conclusions, One of ever so popular being how: "gym is way for Misty to become water master", but through this thread im going to present so far known facts and what in reality water pokemon master dream showed and to certain degree implied to envelop: Which are following:

okay so. bucky has a corviknight for SURE, and i'm inclined to say his rookadee -> corviknight is his partner pokemon actually—i like giving people relatively common partner pokemon ngl, it feels more realistic than Everyone Getting A Special Starter. and while i feel you on the rapidash, may i suggest instead of a second one a zebstrika? bucky just gives me electric-type trainer vibes, on top of the flying- and steel-types everyone in mota's gotta have. To That End i think a boltund would be a good fit too, plus a kilowattrel—i'm lowkey tempted to give him a togekiss because It's A Plane, but i don't think it really fits with the lore and kilowattrel's probably a better fit in that respect. i think also it'd be funny if he has a braviary that Does Not get along with his corviknight.

curt's got a pancham and a purrloin who are his two partner pokemon [he gets two because he's My Special Guy] and evolve into pangoro and liepard around the same time, a perrserker, a pidgeot, i swear i am not giving him all pokemon that start with p on purpose, and rounds out his team with a bagon who evolves into salamence during flight school and, after Shit Goes Down, a marshadow. fighting-types as his optional type, and two dark types for the way he uses people underestimating him to his advantage. marshadow because there's gotta be at least one ghost type on his team. /evil

as for what they do... hm! gym leaders/elite four make the most sense of the options, but that does feel kinda easy? i think the line up that'd track best in that case is curt towards the end of the gym circuit, seventh or eighth with flint/volkner kinda vibes, and bucky, gale, jack, and a fourth guy [croz? bill veal? red???] as the elite four, difficulty order up for debate, and rosie as region champion because Come On. but like... surge was apparently in A Military? so maybe there is in fact A Military for them to be in? Secret Pokemon Wars IDK MAN

Alright, I'm a bit annoyed with some statements indicating Misty's MPM gig was only temporary, or more accurately, she's back to being a Gym Leader after MPM, both on Bulbapedia and on Twitter. So I'm posting some things making clear Misty was if anything resuming her journey, not resuming Gym duties.

These screencaps were from her appearance in Alola, Alola when she first appeared and explained her presence:

Note the last screencaps, or two even. She specifically mentioned the reason she was at Alola, or rather, away from the gym, is because they have had so many Gym Challengers since meeting Ash for a field trip, and needed a break. On a similar note, a rather unappreciated bit about that scene is that it also implies Misty's sisters by that point had cleaned up their act and actually ARE serious battlers this time, which they weren't as late as the prior cameo she had based on this scene from the Japanese version of Alola, Kanto:

Not to mention Misty made it VERY clear in Date with Delcatty as well as both her appearances in AG that the reason she temporarily had long-term Gym Leader status was because her sisters were unreliable and prone to handing out badges, so the fact that she even entrusts them to watch the gym even temporarily, much less for any long-term/permanent basis would definitely imply Misty's sisters definitely are taking their battling abilities seriously this time.

But anyways, to get back to the overall point. This is what she says when reuniting with Ash in MPM:

Note just how different her terminology was. She makes absolutely no mention of a break, vacation, or anything that suggests it was purely a short-term departure from the gym. Far from it, she specifically indicated she set off on a journey, which suggests a far longer-term departure from the gym than her prior appearances since GCYL. That definitely doesn't point to Misty merely being on temporary leave at all, and I would have said this even if I DID prefer Misty being on the gym (I don't, BTW, not after the messup AG did with the Gym Leaders, and besides, being a Gym Leader won't get her very far into her Water Pokemon Master goal. Blaine, Flint, Candice, and various others made that very clear).

And when we get to the final episode of Ash's run, and by extension Misty and Brock's, this is the transcript for what Misty's saying (note, since this is based on the Japanese version, I'm putting the English names in brackets).

Misty: Well, [Cerulean] City is this way. (Psyduck pops out of Pokeball, then hugs Pikachu goodbye) Misty: I had a lot of fun traveling with you again. Ash & Brock: Yeah. Brock: Please tell the Sisters of [Cerulean] Gym that [Brock] sends them his kindest regards! [Misty presumably says too close] Precisely! I want to get closer to the-- (Croagunk pops out and Poison Jabs him) Brock: I'm going numb... Misty: (waving goodbye) [Ash]! [Brock]! Bye! Ash & Brock: See ya! Take care!

The only time Cerulean Gym was even brought up was when Brock eagerly tells Misty to say hi to her sisters for him. Nothing even REMOTELY suggesting she's going back to the gym to resume duties, which is ESPECIALLY unusual since the prior times she departed (not counting Alola, Kanto since that was different from the norm in that if anything, Ash visited her rather than the other way around) she usually makes it explicit that she has to return to the gym, or otherwise circumstances pop up that make it very clear she has to leave for the gym (ie, A Real Cleffa Tale had Daisy calling Misty basically threatening to hand out badges again). Might as well add Brock's transcript since this also implies some details as well:

Brock: All right, then... It's this way to [Pewter] City. I'll be off, too. Ash: Okay. Look after yourself. Brock: Let's go, [Croagunk]. (Turns to wave goodbye) See you, [Ash]! Ash: Yeah! Let's travel together again!

This last bit is particularly interesting, since it implies that at the very least Brock, if not Misty as well, were merely going back for layovers (and we definitely know Brock isn't resuming Gym Duties, either. He's been retired since Pewter City Showdown). Sure, I'd prefer Misty resumed her goal with Ash, but as far as I'm concerned, her even journeying at ALL rather than being stuck in a gym is still a huge success ultimately. Oh, and here's the video the above transcripts came from:

Quite frankly, saying Misty's resuming gym duties and even implying she's a Water Pokemon Master from that is an insult to her character that I won't abide by, especially when it's made clear from evidence in the show that it's nowhere CLOSE to that goal.

The Japanese set 151 features something unique. In one booster box, you get one reverse Holo that has a master ball and not the usual pokeball.

SILVER IVE WASTED ALL MY GEMS I WAS SAVING FOR MASTER FAIR TRYNA GET YOU !!! I've stayed up all night doing the little sync pair stories for 10 gems a pop like how fucking gruelling of a task honestly 😒

I mean I don't even need silver for my deck but silver isn't a want he is an uneeded NEED. SOOO I am definitely about to purchase *more* gems just to at least pity him.
