Let's play a game!
Guess who said these lines of dialogue in Mercutio and Benvolio Turn Back Time, and then check under the cut to see if you were right!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Verona has 99 problems—including a time machine. All Benvolio has ever desired is a peaceful life alongside his spirited—albeit quarrelsome—roommate, Mercutio. But as the story goes, the course of true love never did run smooth, and when tensions between the Montagues and the Capulets reach a boiling point, Benvolio and Mercutio are dragged into the mess Romeo makes of all their lives. Then an older version of Benvolio crashes into their lives, offering the opportunity to change fate, Mercutio does as he always does—seizes the chance. There's just one problem: no deal is without strings, and this one involves a deadly secret that Mercutio is determined to take to the grave. What follows is a lively adventure through the ages, replete with love and heartache. Amidst the chaos, this inseparable duo will unravel the true depth of their friendship. A riotous romp of a retelling of Romeo & Juliet. Side effects of reading may contain laughter, heartache, and a need for more. This light, sci-fi fantasy is the perfect shelf companion to The Queer Principles of Kit Webb by Cat Sebastian, Something Fabulous by Alexis Hall, and The Gentle Art of Fortune Hunting by KJ Charles.

This Way Out by Tufayel Ahmed: (Contemporary RomCom) Amar can’t wait to tell everyone his wonderful news: he’s found The One, and he’s getting married. But it turns out announcing his engagement on a group chat might not have been the best way to let his strict Muslim Bangladeshi family know that his happy-ever-after partner is a man—and a white man at that. But if Amar and Joshua can reconcile their differences with Amar’s culture, could there be hope for his relationship with his family too? Rep: BIPOC characters, gay, M/M relationship.
This is How You Lose the Time War by Amal El-Mohtar & Max Gladstone: (SciFi) Among the ashes of a dying world, an agent of the Commandant finds a letter. It reads: Burn before reading. Thus begins an unlikely correspondence between two rival agents hellbent on securing the best possible future for their warring factions. Now, what began as a taunt, a battlefield boast, grows into something more. Something epic. Something romantic. Something that could change the past and the future. Rep: sapphic, F/F relationship.
Red, White, and Royal Blue by Casey Mcquiston: (Contemporary RomCom) FSOTUS Alex Claremont-Diaz never expected tumbling into a wedding cake with his nemesis Prince Henry of Wales would lead to tumbling into bed with him. But what begins as a PR stunt transforms first into a clandestine affair, then a love story capable of upending two nations. Forced to reckon with the consequences, Alex and Henry must ask: What is worth the sacrifice? How do you do all the good you can do? And, most importantly, how will history remember you? Rep: BIPOC characters, gay, bisexual, M/M relationship.
Undergrounder by JE Glass: (SciFi/Fantasy) The last place Alexandra Bailey expects her routine life of domestic journalism to lead is being sucked into icy floodwaters below New York City. Saved but hardly safe, Alex wakes in the Underground, a world of misfits and monsters thriving below the streets. Her beastly savior is Leanna Farrow, adopted daughter of an infamous and "presumed dead" scientist. But Alex's curiosity, coupled with her rapidly developing feelings for Leanna, put both women in danger when Alex's inquiries pique the interest of a powerful family with bloody connections to the Underground's origins. If Alex wants to unravel the secrets of the world below, she'll have to walk the razor's edge, but some mysteries are better left buried. Rep: sapphic, F/F relationship.

Hi.
Could you maybe recommend some gay af books? I'd love to read some!
Hi anon! first of all thank you for asking bc i love talking about my favorite gay books!! also this is so not going to be a comprehensive list or anything, like idk if these are the best or the most popular but they're the ones i've personally read! also shoutout to @lgbtqreads bc it's where i've personally gotten many recommendations so highly recommended! also this is almost entirely about lesbians because yes
First things first, the first gay book I read, for Carol reasons, was The Price of Salt! which I genuinely and absolutely loved. and it sent me in a path of similar historic-ish kind of path from which I specifically remember Tell it To The Bees (better ending than the movie!!) and Patience and Sarah. and then everything by Sarah Waters (except one book without lesbians that's still good), happy endings not guaranteed, just historial lesbian in wild stories, but they're all great, some of my favorite ever, especially Fingersmith and The Night Watch *chefs kiss*
Then I decided you know what, I want just cheesy, happy, sexy, little romance books! like low stakes, pretty much predictable, but just satisfying if you're in the mood for a romcom. so i went down the rabbit hole of reading every single book by Melissa Brayden (i genuinely recommend the 3 series she's written, or at least the first two, you need this in your life (don't expect a lot of diversity but like it's just fun okay? trust me)). there's also Georgia Beers, which I haven't read as much but still good!! I really liked the books by Lyn Gardner too. also Nina Lacour!
Which lead me to "mostly YA or romance books that I read and loved but don't remember enough to describe in detail but you should totally read": All Out (many lgbt stories), Dating Sarah Cooper, Annie On My Mind, i think everything by Malinda Lo. special shoutout to scifi/fantasy YA that i personally treasure! Labyrinth Lost! The Abyss Surrounds Us (and sequel)!! This Is How You Lose The Time War!! and of course The Locked Tomb series!!! also i promise that One Stop and The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo are 1000% worth it!!!
I don't read a lot of non-fiction but I could recommend Tegan and Sara's book also Cameron Esposito's book! don't have anything else in that category though
And because it's a personal favorite of mine, spooky gay books!! obviously start with The Haunting of Hill House, technically it's just subtext but it's worth it. Her Body and Other Parties is an absolute masterpiece, gay and unsettling (also the other book and comic book by Carmen Maria Machado!). a tragic and weird but amazing if you know how to appreciate if its for you, Carmila!!! and I'd totally count My Best Friend's Exorcism as gay because it's just very gay
okay that's it!!
let me know if you'd like to know more about one of them specifically or if you'd like to talk about any of them because I'd absolutely love to!!! <3

i hate it when people ask me what my favorite genre of tv/film is because the thing is i’m not allowed to have a favorite, not if i want to see myself on screen. if i want to see a girl loving up another girl in an well portrayed and healthy manner then i have limited choices. if i don’t want to see the lesbian die, i have limited choices. i don’t get to decide. if a horror movie came out with a wlw subplot i wouldn’t be able to not see it, even though horror movies give me nightmares. i’m not allowed to choose a genre because if there’s wlw rep and the movie or tv show tanks, the wlw are blamed, even if it’s a shitty plot.

edgar and alan headcanons for @wat-the-cur ! (as usual this is in a universe where tlb don’t die and the frogs are redeemed :,)
they’re twins but alan is older by like an hour so naturally he’s always pulling the “respect your elders” card
they were born on february 29th aka leap year but they don’t tell anyone that because of the imminent “leap FROGS” jokes (which sam definitely makes when they tell him and they smack him for it)
alan loves horror movies of any kind. he likes the special effects/makeup a lot. he’s also a science fiction nerd for sure
he also likes engineering; he likes both the finiteness of math and machines and the ambiguity of space and fantasy. edgar though has trouble wrapping his head around things that are theoretical so he needs evidence and hands on work
alan’s music taste is made up of scifi/horror movie soundtracks and strange new wave but its actually kinda good
edgar’s music is um... not as good
edgar understands NO pop culture at all. when sam and alan go back and forth with their references it’s like they’re speaking in hieroglyphics and edgars like that pic of shadow going “what the FUCK are you two talking about”
he will watch star wars with sam and alan but only when forced, and he only learns one character’s name each time
when the three of them hang out they like people watching and pretending they’re spies or on a stakeout. they’ll make up bizarre backstories for strangers around them
sam also gets them into gossiping and judging people
edgar like. does not understand sarcasm. he’s a very straightforward person
both frogs’ beliefs and personalities in their childhood/young adulthood were really influenced by their frustration with their parents and repression of their sexuality so they kind of spewed whatever was said by the adults around them (ie truth justice and the american way)
they know they were pretty rude as a result of that when they met sam and they’re really apologetic for it when they get older
after the whole “vampires must die” debacle, they make sort of a truce to only hunt “bad guy monsters” just tolerate tlb. david specifically is on the thinnest ice (especially because he and edgar’s personalities clash)
like david, edgar secretly enjoys soap operas and cheesy romcoms and horse girl movies
edgar got ordained for two reasons only: 1) to officiate gay weddings and 2) to hunt monsters, in that order.
neither of them can cook. awful terrible cooks but in completely different ways. they also can’t dance not even a little bit
lucy thinks they’re a bit weird (especially when they talk in unison) but sweet
edgar does get gay married to blake post-the events of the thirst but it’s very ron swanson-esque in that it’s quick and not flashy and he officiates it himself. sam still cries though <3

I sort of hate it whenever people are like "its so cool how you watch all these indie movies/shows with low budgets, such a fun hobby" and its like, no, I don't like low-budget indie films. I like fun, big-budget genre movies, crowd pleasers with A-list actors. But I already burned through all of the ones with representation (good or bad), and so I had to choose between indie films with gay people and poc, or straight, white blockbusters. If there were big dumb scifi movies and fantasy shows and superhero films with brown people and gay people, I would absolutely watch those instead of the ten thousandth low-budget gay indie romcom from Breaking Glass pictures about a gay twunk who is either a) miserable because he's not in a monogamous relationship or b) cheating on his spouse. I'm a basic bitch! I want to see Poe Dameron fly around in an X-wing, shooting space nazis and kissing boys! I want a brave knight to save the dashing prince from a three-million-dollar CGI dragon. I don't want the millionth low-budget oscar-bait tragedy where the leads commit suicide or die of AIDS at the end (especially if its not even written by a queer person).

Five good and gay things that happened this week: 3/9-3/15
Happy Friday. We need a little extra good news since Netflix dropped news of their cancellation of One Day at a Time this week. 1. National Women’s Soccer League players Ashlyn Harris and Ali Krieger are engaged. It’s the Bend it Like Beckham sequel we all deserve. Orlando Pride players, Harris and Krieger have had fans speculating for years, but lately, the two have been more open about their nine-year relationship. Harris popped the question and the two told their story to People Magazine this weekend. Congrats!     Here it is! The first teaser trailer for #PassageTheSeries Meet #JanusAgentAliPrader#RepresentationMatters #LGBTQ #QueerContent#FemaleFilmmaker #scifi #fantasy pic.twitter.com/JNFuvVzp0r — Passage The Series (@passage_series) March 14, 2019 2. Passage The Series gets its first teaser. This sci-fi webseries, created by Hillary Esquina, won Tello Films’ Pitch to Production competition at ClexaCon. It’s coming full circle and the first two episodes will debut at this year’s ClexaCon.     Here we go! Please check out our campaign to make the Holiday movie for our community! Help make it happen for Season of Love: Queer Holiday RomCom on @indiegogo https://t.co/Y0S3OLaH5p — tellofilms (@tellofilms) March 15, 2019 3. Queer holiday rom-com Season of Love in the works and needs your help. Kat Trammel‘s Season of Love won another Tello pitch contest and crowdfunding has just launched. The film “follows the lives of three very different queer couples in dealing with their love lives in various interrelated tales all set during a frantic time before Christmas through New Years.” If you long for a holiday film that reflects your community, consider checking out the campaign.       4. Out Youtube star Lilly Singh scores a late-night talk show. Big congrats to Lilly Signh who will be taking over Carson Daly’s spot on NBC. Signh, who came out as bisexual last month, has been a Youtube star for nearly a decade and will be one of the few women to host a late night show.   5. Booksmart stars a leading lesbian character. The teen comedy, starring Beanie Feldstein and Kaitlyn Dever, is directed by Olivia Wilde and made its premiere at SXSW this week. Dever and Feldstein play best friends, one gay, one straight, who realize at the end of their high school experience that they’ve never really let loose and broken any rules. The trailer is definitely NSFW.   http://dlvr.it/R0vFJZ

A movie that took you a couple of viewings to appreciate.
honestly?? (and i know its not the GREAT movie straight film boys say it is), but i had to watch the dark knight about three times (spaced 2 years apart lol) before i fully appreciated the plot and themes. the first time i watched it i was so embarrassed because i truly struggled following the events of that film. same with potc 2 and 3 like i still dont think i fully get whats going in those films lmao
A book you really, really, really don’t want to see made into a film.
anyone and i mean anyone attempts to make ocean at the end of the lane by neil gaiman into a film i will come for blood
Favorite genres.
older people saying screw it and having time of their lives genre, the treasure hunting/adventure genre, the world is ending but here’s why its worth saving genre, mockumentary, niche interest/ small town/microcosms and their enthusiastic inhabitants’ genre, mixed genre comedies (esp scifi/fantasy/horror), poc period dramas, romcoms, epidemic films, films that are simultaneously a parody of a thing and a serious attempt at thing (i.e. spy), true stories about prodigies of colour being amazing, honestly i genuinely love films that are sort of mixed genres so its hard to say my favorites
Least favorite genres
fucking…… historical war films, straight person making gay film to be edgy genre, adam sandler movie type genres, white woman finding herself via discovering cultures of colour genre, films where the person who made them is clearly just misogynistic and racist and wants to make a movie  that justifies their shittiness, reboots that are supposedly woke but are just white feministy,

lgbt podcasts that deserve more attention in my gay opinion
please let me know if you want details about the lgbt+ representation in these, and feel free to add on :D
death at a low price- my very very fave as probably most of my followers are aware of at this point. scifi/comedy about a group of dangerous queer ppl and aliens who run an interdimensional convenience store. search herbarium podcasts to find it
spines podcast- horror/mystery about a woman who has scary dangerous powers and only remembers a fucked up ritual and information about her “friends” and who tries to figure out what she is and what happened to her and whats going on with certain sketchy orginizations
inkwyrm- scifi/romcom that is basically gays in space fashion magazine version. also includes a lot of cliche gay relationship drama that i live for
freed- soft apocolypse is the best way i can describe it. its a really sweet podcast about a badass lady who makes broadcasts about her progress fixing a mountain town. later on she makes friends that help her out and theres conspiracys and a lot gets revealed about the world. also my fave
junction series-  drama/romance about 4 high school girls who try and start a podcast to find a girl who went missing but get really off track because they are all really gay for each other and have a lot of relationship drama
adventures of mechabetty- scifi/mecha/action about a scientist who turns herself into a mech w the help of her team in order to fight off an alien invasion. really lighthearted and fun
to whom it may concern- fantasy/supernatural about a mentally ill woman who gets haunted by a dangerous ghost and the group of ghosts that are trying to help protect her. Look on the official blog @to-whom-it-may-concern-podcast for this one
oakpodcast- scifi/interactive podcast about an autistic jewish spy who gets stranded and becomes homeless and is forced to uncover the truth behind the bioweapon that she was exposed to
the girl who set out to seek a living wage- fairy tale about autistic fantasy lesbians destroying capitalism and living happily ever after
the blood crow stories- horror podcast about a college student who goes through old psych records of the passengers ofa ship that sank in the 1940s (i think??) and then realizes there is a monster feeding off everyones pain and fear. heads up that this will emotionally destroy you

hello! how my day has been: i'm trying to get a head start on one of my final papers so i'm not totally swamped for the weekend. at least i get to write it about an awesome scifi/fantasy book! and one of my other final projects is a final draft for my fiction writing class. my draft is a gay 18th century nun romcom so it's been fun to write, even though it's definitely difficult at times. i miss my cats. it's weird that they're gone. i'm still getting used to it. it was finally warm today. :)
Nuns show up in so many things I write. I think it’s because my family all went to Catholic school and had so many stories about nuns. I didn’t go to Catholic school and didn’t hang out with any nuns, but there was constant nun related background chatter. Ok. Not constant. But historical nun fiction sounds interesting. I’m sorry about your cats. :/ I don’t know what happened and you don’t need to tell me, unless it will make you feel better.

Sometimes you just gotta meet people the old-fashioned way. . . arresting them.
If you love duets/duologies, completed series, or queer cyberpunk fae, this one's for you my friend! Villainous Heroics is an adult queer scifi fantasy with anime vibes.
What makes someone a villain?
After the war, Mythikos was divided into three classes: Seelie, Unseelie, and human.
For Jericho, a werewolf a part of the Hero Alliance, the world has always been black and white. Heroes and villains. Seelie and Unseelie. Those who protect the humans and those who hurt them. Jericho has always known what side they’re on.
But when the villain they’ve been hunting for the last six months turns out to be their childhood friend, everything Jericho knew is turned upside down. Dusk storms into Jericho’s life to show them just how wrong their assumptions are, and that the world is made up of more than just good and evil.
Faced with a world that seems increasingly more grey, Jericho must decide to return to their old life, or trust their friend turned villain.
A LGBTQ+ fantasy scifi novel for fans of J. Elle’s Wings of Ebony, Marissa Meyer’s Renegades, and April Daniels’ Dreadnought.
