Shattered Illusion (Hyunjin smut & fluff)

F!Reader x Hyunjin

Hyunjin is absolutely smitten with his wife, although the rest of the world doesn't see her the way he does.

This is in no way meant as a commentary on the real person Hyunjin. The persona he projects for us to enjoy is just so enticing and invites naughty fantasies.

This story is connected to a bigger story I am still writing and editing.

The "you" used here is not generic, I'm using it to allow myself some immersion on later re-reads. I know that's selfish but isn't all the writing advice telling us to write what we want to read? “I think we should drop a sex tape.” Hyunjin says in a low voice, right as he presses you higher and harder into the wet shower wall. He is leaving hot, open-mouthed kisses all over your neck, shoulders and chest, savouring how closely the two of you are joined and the way your heated, soft skins sliding against each other make it feel like the line where he ends and you begin is erased.

Moments later, he’s placing you back onto the shower floor and sliding down to his knees.

“No!” You yelp, feeling his teeth dig into the soft tissue right under your chin. No scarf is going to cover that hickie. “I’m not sharing you with the world. Us fucking is all they ever think about anyway. Let them have their fantasies and die mad about them.”

“I just can’t stand them calling you all these names. You’re my wife, I chose you!” He pants out, growling to further drive his point home.

“Hyune… how about focusing on fucking me now, and plotting revenge against your few shitty fans later? I feel like we’re enjoying both things less if we combine them.”

“Leg up.” He says, tapping one of your thighs and guiding it over his shoulder when you comply. “Ride my face.” He instructs, and it’s all you can think of doing when his nose rubs against your clit and his tongue snakes inside you, lapping up the mess he made.

And, unlike many men, he doesn’t roll over and start snoring as soon as he’s come once. Getting off makes him chatty, and you get to hear an unfiltered reel of his thoughts as he cuddles you afterwards.

Instead of losing momentum the more he gets you to come, your body gets ever more eager to comply with his requests. Once he’s gotten you to this point of heightened stimulation, you’ll come just from him saying you should.

Sex with Hyunjin is usually a brain melting, loving, hot fusion. But sometimes he just chases more, and he needs to be further lost into you. Like today. He won’t stop until you’ve forgotten your name and all you can do is tremble in his arms, eyes unfocused and limbs pliable, letting him clean you up and tuck you in like his most beloved doll.

“I want to slap every single one of these bastards.” He huffs, getting worked back up. “There are other idols they can move on to, if they hate it so much that I got married. And that you’re a woman! I’m sorry not sorry I don’t live my life to cater to their fantasies.”

The biggest problem, as you were made painfully and explicitly aware by the fansites and social media fan content about you, is not that Hyunjin got married, because everyone expected that. Everyone pictured him as a soft, perfect and aesthetic husband. But no one thought, in a million years, that Hyunjin would marry a woman. People looked at his stage persona and decided he is gayer than anyone who gayed before, and therefore he would remain publicly single and have a discreet relationship that fans could play detective about and project their speculations and fantasies on.

It breaks your heart to see how easily the unending love turned directly to hate towards your softest boy. People love to shout tolerance and acceptance of all love forms, until it doesn’t match their ideas or politics.

What no one besides Hyunjin, his mom and you know, is that he wasn’t planning to fall in love, he wasn’t even looking for a mate and he was bitter about marriage, given the examples he saw around him and the culture in his country around the concept.

But then he met you and all bets were off. You’re the same height and build - so similar in fact that you two wear each other’s clothes and shoes all the time, especially considering the fact that you were never the most feminine woman, unable to walk in heels and to wear thongs or to go for all the impossibly uncomfortable things that make a woman pass as a woman in the world.

In you, Hyunjin found a best friend, an ally, a twin mind and someone who loves him the way he needs to be loved. He fell in love gradually, but realised it in a stroke of clarity, not having seen that coming. When faced with his heart’s verdict, he had to admit that this was a case of “life is curly” and, the deeper within himself he looked, the more he knew for a fact that he did not care what packaging you came wrapped in.

This was something that upset many - they cannot, to this day, grasp how someone who’s been talking about boyfriends and posting erotic art of two men can go on and marry some Frau. People even go so far as to call him a coward, for allegedly remaining in the closet for the sake of superficial benefits of being publicly straight, and hate him for supposedly betraying every gay stan who made him their bias in Stray Kids.

That’s why the same fans calling you a horse and referring to you as “Miss Mann”, the name of a gruesome transphobic caricature character from a movie in the 2000s, does not bother you at all. You had resigned yourself to the thought that love would never cross your path. It was lonely and isolating being a tall girl in your home country, and it got worse in Korea. Men felt it was their duty to tell you they wouldn’t fuck you for all the money in the world because most of them felt threatened by you being taller than them and by the chance of you wearing heels on top of that. When it wasn’t the height, it was your lean, muscular body or your naturally white hair and icy blue eyes. Judging by how desperate idols were to dye their hair white and wear the lightest blue contacts, you’d think it was something to aspire to and covet. But it wasn’t as cool if it was natural, you supposed. So you minded your business and did your job. And then Hyunjin had stood in your office one day, along with the other members, and the rest was history.

There’s also the people who love to snicker thinly and point at pap pics of you and Hyunjin running errands, saying that Hyunjin did marry a man, he just doesn’t realise it yet. That kind of thing has you laughing maniacally like Skeletor, because this lot of people are just another variety in the big pool of folks who, instead of sleeping at night, stay up and think of you fucking Hyunjin.

“Mmm, devilish. I love it.” Hyunjin puts his hands under his head, allowing himself to daydream. “I will ask Donatella to send me the smallest swim trunks she has in this year’s collection.”

Every doubt the haters sneak into your heart, Hyunjin undoes effortlessly by loving you with everything he is, every moment of every day. You had no idea any man could be this soft and loving. Your father was a man of actions, not words, and he was distant; his understanding of love was that of quiet sacrifice, and while you grew up safely thanks to him, you also learned that men don’t do emotions and are always stoic and reserved. It was not the most enticing picture to keep in your mind, so at some point, you let it go.

Hyunjin is funny, doesn’t take himself seriously, has no filter on his mouth and most importantly, he laughs with you, not at you. He never calls you things he can never take back, not even in the throes of passion. He never raises his voice at you. None of his facets have it in them to demean and humiliate you, not even for fleeting gratification in the moment, and he is extremely careful about not putting you on the spot in public, no matter if you’re on a red carpet or at the grocery store. He chooses you over the rest of the world, over and over and over again - not because he read in a book how to manipulate a woman into being loyal to him, but because he needs it for himself - needs to see you content and smiling happily at him.

You suspect he has a partial idea, if not a more in depth one, of the wounds you carry on the inside since you were small, and he must have sworn to himself not to add to them, but to do his best to help you heal them.

“But baby I want to make the fuckers lose their heads with powerless envy. They should know that you are mine and I am yours and they can never come between us.” He says, running a hand through your white, still damp from the shower hair.

“Then how about an Acro Yoga video?” You suggest. “That shit is hot and challenging and it will trigger folks a lot more than something they can do at home in their stanky bedroom too.”

“Boo, those won’t help at all during acro yoga. They will go up your crack right away.”

“Don't care. I want people jerking off with one hand and crying with the other!”

“Hyune… that’s not-”

He doesn’t let you finish, pouncing on you and peppering your face with loud, enthusiastic kisses all over at once, like a smitten octopus.

“We are putting out a hot video. Hotter even than a sex tape.” He says in a singsong voice. “I’ll get to organising. And we can start choreographing the whole thing right away.” He adds, giddiness still audible in his voice.

Bad Ideas of the Day, Part Three

My monthly-ish roundup of my bad dimension 20 fanfic ideas of the day prompts! As ever, all of these can be written by anyone who cares to do so.

Bad Idea Of the Day, Multi-class Edition: Following basic pattern recognition skills, Fig decides and convinces four of the other bad kids that the key to getting powerful wizard abilities is not hard work and study, but having a name that starts with the letter A. Can Adaine deal with walking in to class on the first day of school and finding five new students in her wizard classes, Afig, Akristen, Ariz, Agorgug, and Abian, or will she murder her friends on the spot?

Bad idea of the day, Sicktember is a curse edition: Out of respect for Aelwyn's compromised immune system following her time in the orb, the residents of Mordred Manor actually take proper precautions to avoid getting her sick during the following flu season. A fluff piece and alas seemingly pure fantasy.

Bad idea of the day, yes I already did one today edition: Fig, actually doing a bard assignment for once, needs to build a ballad for her family history and decides to include the entire insane non-Gorgug bad kids family tree, even the most tenuous links in it like Kristen and Aelwyn.

Bad idea of the day, role swap edition: Fabian, prince of Leviathan, must deal with a ship that has been raiding his father's trading vessels, led by two sisters who are pirating with varying degrees of reluctance to bring wealth back to their greedy and demanding parents

Bad idea of the day, backstory mix and match edition: In the summer before high school, Kristen and her entire family are ripped apart by the discovery that she is half-devil; meanwhile, wood elf Fig wakes up one morning to a god whispering in her head and is deeply annoyed because they won't just let her sleep in.

(If I want to do it for all of the bad kids, hmm… Riz's parents are actually retired thieves, while Bill Seacaster was actually a privateer working for Solace the whole time; Adaine is adopted and aware of it and hoping her birth parents would actually love her, while Gorgug has a wild gnomish older sister who may be up to some nefarious activity)

Bad idea of the day, every show needs a musical episode by its third season edition: The residents of Elmville have been cursed into bursting into song at the slightest provocation, with reactions ranging from the amused (Fig, Kristen) to the murderous (Riz, Aelwyn). What kind of villain could be behind such an impromptu act of theater?

Why, it's Sam Reich of course. He's been here the… you know the rest.

Bad idea of the day, I Like Werewolves Okay? edition - KINGSTON fails his con save to avoid becoming a werewolf during the train fight and everyone else needs to help him adjust without gnawing on too many people.

Bad idea of the day, the writer had to scroll back to see if it had already done a bad idea of the day today edition: A groundhogs day esque time loop for one of the bad kids, but it's not a dramatic day or anything special and in fact it's just kind of boring and miserable. This turns out to eventually be revealed to be revenge by Arthur Aguefort for some petty and long-forgotten-by-the-kid slight.

Bad idea of the day, campaign fusion edition: Arthur Aguefort sends the Bad Kids on their most dangerous and critical mission yet, shrinking them down to clean out his fridge and prevent the vegetables within from grouping up to kill him before he can eat them, without causing too much damage to the ecosystem he's been maintaining for the last five centuries. Can these mere fleshy beings stop this uprising against 'the hungry one' in the world of Calorum?

Bad idea of the day, early morning edition: Kristen's gay awakening is triggered not by Tracker, but rather by someone who her parents would hate even more: The cute bi rebellious tiefling in her new party.

Bad idea of the day, portal to hell edition: Daybreak succeeds in condemning Kristen to hell, which doesn't actually end the world but does mean Kristen's stuck in hell. Can she find a new god worth following in such spicy surroundings?

Bad idea of the day, after school special edition: Fig and Aelwyn get part-time jobs going around Solace to "demonstrate" the dangers of drugs and drinking by going to local school parties and faking getting into lethal car accidents, overdoses, and other mishaps to scare those local students into being drug free, mostly because both of them secretly find it funny and in Aelwyn's case she needs the money

Bad idea of the day, Double Your Pleasure edition: Riva, never quite certain how the pleasure putty they're selling works, finds out about oral sex and then makes the determination that the explosive material should be marketed as chewing gum. The ensuing pleasure blows people's minds!

Bad idea of the day, Oops All Spells edition: The bad kids manage to not get detention on the first day and to avoid accidentally playing into daybreak's hands, ending up in normal parties. Many of them have many troubles out of this, but the worst is for Fig, who finds herself tempted into hanging out with the first other tiefling she's ever met even if he is a little bit of a loser, one Johnny Spells

Bad idea of the day, Mentopolis edition: The Fix gets an assignment to wipe out serial distracter Imelda Pulse before she can ruin any more coworker's birthdays

Bad idea of the day, Afterlife edition: Figueroth Faeth is very bad at the paperwork of her domain in Hell, even after nearly fifty years running it. Luckily for her, her good friend and paperwork expert Riz Gukgak has just died of old age, and Fig isn't above cheating him out of heaven in order to get his administrative expertise in Hell.

Bad idea of the day, party swap edition: As part of a junior year test, all of the students in that year must do a relatively easy quest mixed up into different parties, with no two members of a typical party allowed to be together. How do the bad kids handle doing a mission with people who are less, well, generally insane and bloodthirsty than they are?

Bad Idea of the Day, Spy Versus Spy edition: All of the bad kids are on secret missions to spy on Arthur Aguefort and his school, with varying degrees of willingness and conflicting goals: Adaine for Fallinel, Kristen on behalf of the church, Fig on behalf of Hell, Riz for Kalina, Fabian for his father, and Gorgug for the Solisian government itself through his parents.

Bad idea of the day, A Crown of Candy edition: Amethar dies in the initial ambush, the way Brennan had frankly probably planned for. Can the remnants of house Rocks hold things together and avenge their fallen king?

Bad idea of the day, Nightmare Forest edition: Rather than illusions, the nightmare forest sequence is made up of a Freddy Kreuger-esque sequence of actual dreams in the Bad Kids' actual sleeps, with them needing to survive their respective worst nightmares in order to make it to the place at the center of dreams where they can find the Nightmare King.

Bad idea of the day, fake holiday edition: Aguefort in junior year includes a class on self-promotion, and Fig and Adaine, taking it extremely seriously, start a holiday honoring the anniversary of Riz murdering Daybreak.

the science team (gordon, benrey, tommy, coomer and bubby) are a rebel group , forzen, darnold and gman are homeworld gems

gordon's a banded carnelian , he ran away from homeworld before the war started . while he was on earth, he adopted a human child (Joshua!) his gem is chipped, what caused him to be unable to form his arm benrey's a lapis lazuli pretending to be a blue dumortierite, he's been doing it for a long while and he doesn't plan on stopping . nobody knows that he's a lapis and he's intending on keeping it that way

tommy's an yellow agate , and he's incredibly high ranking because of how hard he worked and how good of a job he did . though when the rebellion started , he had to make a desicion between leaving all of the work he did and leaving gman behind , or joining his friends in bettering the life of themselves and many other gems . he decided on the latter

sunkist is tommy's corrupted pearl

coomer's a green quartz . he left homeworld with bubby after seeing how badly they were treating him . him and bubby are some of the older members of the rebel group

bubby's a fusion experiment , composed of several shards of zircons. because of the colour selection and the fact they're the same type of gem, he's incredibly stable in comparison to most other fusion experiments

darnold's a yellow olivine and his job on homeworld is to be a scientist ! he's very good at his job , though he'd rather be doing something else . he didn't join the rebellion because he was too scared lmao

forzen is a tsavorite . he's a silly garnet . he's doing a great job . he used to be somewhat close with benrey , but after he joined the rebellion , he's had nothing but a strong hatered for him

gman is hope diamond ; he's the diamond the members of the rebellion worked for before , and who darnold and forzen work for currently . he's very calm and collected about everything , especially the rebellion , though he does really miss tommy

i think that there'd be a few redemption arks and things..... like darnold and gman but im not too sure about forzen ..... maybe there'll also be gay people too . we'll see

And now ofc Im planning custom mobile suit builds for amphibia characters in my ever-expanding AU because idk when to stop. Maybe just the main trio for now, still writing the first chapter of the sashannarcy focused part of my gundam au. Mostly focused on Sasha, but when I finish itll be the first official entry to my gundam universe. Strangely enough, that started out as a Steven Universe idea with the gundam au doodles I posted around last year here, then luca with the underdogs focused part of the au, and then inside out. Now, we are at sashannarcy because we love putting gay people in situations that they need to fight their way out of with giant robots. Jokes aside, I do think this unified AU having different things going on is interesting in itself despite not me fleshing it out completely.

Edit: Just to clarify, for budget and preference reasons, Im planning the builds in 1/144 scale as is for standard Gunpla High Grades and Real Grades. Im thinking that they start out only with Sasha having the mobile suit as a custom unit, then the other two slowly get theirs through other means. I'd imagine Anne's more generic ish like with the zephyranthes. The calamity powers are gonna be a subset project offshoot of the psychoframe tech and the fusion generators. Stay tuned for that. Im just chucking the ideas out so I dont forget.

Fic Writer 2023 Review

I got this from @jaelijn, who generously tagged me - 30 questions about my fic writing through this year.

I hope for a better 2024 for all of us.

What’s something new that you tried in a fic this year? How did it turn out and would you do it again?

I wrote the first three chapters - well, I can hardly say "wrote" - of a fandom fusion - Blake's 7 scripts with MAS*H characters replacing them. To find them funny - even to know what's going on - you would have to be simultaneously a B7 fan and a MASH fan. Judging by the response on AO3, I would say there are about four such. Maybe less. I probably won't finish it - though anything's possible - and I doubt very much if I'll do anything like that again. The problem was that it was not very creative, but even so, it took up a fair amongt of time.

2. How many fics did you work on this year? (They don’t have to be finished or published!)

I wrote about 211,000 words of All We Know - pretty steadily through the year. I was writing the September 1962 section last January, and I'm writing the April 1963 section now. I'm publishing chronologically, so the section I'm working on now will be posted in April 2024 - after being proofread, edited, beta-read, edited, and so on.

I also completed three MASH stories - Crabapple Cove, Major Heart, Under the Apple Tree, and one Star Trek story, Kirk and Spock's First Kiss. M*A*S*H works in progress include Rosary, Nurse Doctor, MirrorMASH, and another strange crossover, Buffy the Vampire Slayer And Her Gay Foster Dads.

And there's Gray-Eyes, which is something else again.

3. What’s something you learned about yourself as a writer?

All We Know is easily the longest story I've ever written. I found that I can hold a story that length inside of my head and my heart, and keep writing it - and be confident I'll finish it. I found, too, that I do a lot of my writing inside my head before I sit down and stare at the screen. This last I always knew, I suppose, but now I really know it.

4. What piece of media inspired you the most?

Well, M*A*S*H, of course. Some lovely soul managed to upload All The MASH Episodes to the Internet Archive in such a way that they went unnoticed for over a year. (They are now gone- helpful people on the very public Mash subreddit started posting links to them, and whaddya know, once declared publicly, they're gone.)

I also watched some few episodes of E.R., most of the first episode of AfterMASH, a couple of episodes of Trapper John M.D., a specific episode of Sports Night, and I read Herman Wouk's Marjorie Morningstar and Kathy Hulme's The Nun's Story, among other relevant material.

5. What fandom(s) did you write for this year?

M*A*S*H. Star Trek. Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Blake's 7, a little.

6. What ship(s) captured your heart?

Hawkeye/Mulcahy. Over, and over, and over again. Also, because they're so very sweet together, Sam Pak/Sidney Freedman.

7. What character(s) captured your heart?

Well, besides Francis Mulcahy and Hawkeye Pierce, 2023 was the year I got to like Trapper very much indeed, as I wrote him in October and in December. I saw a very old fanvid, Trapper Never Got To Say Goodbye, and watched a bunch of good Trapper episodes, and - I just got to like him. I also invented/discovered in my heart several newly adorable people: Sam Colquhoun and his daughter Barbara, Martine LeClerc, Pauline Morley and her partner Thea Schwartz and their friend Nadine Royer, Loretta Bradford, Doctor Jerome White and Doctor Aaron Elharar, Sarah Pargeter Pierce and her 12-year-old daughter Mary, Sister Maria Angelica and Sister Raymond, and of course Cathryn Jamieson.

8. Did you write for a new fandom or ship this year?

No. Well, yes: I gave Margaret Houlihan the best possible husband I could imagine for her. I like Sam Colquhoun.

9. What fic meant the most to you to write?

At the time? Gray-Eyes. Ongoing through the whole year: All We Know.

10. What fic made you feel the happiest to work on?

Crabapple Cove. I got the idea and wrote it and giggled most of my way through writing it.

11. What fic was the most satisfying to finish writing?

Well, besides Gray-Eyes, I only finished four stories this year, plus some bits of tumblrfic: Crabapple Cove, Major Heart, Under the Apple Tree, and Kirk and Spock's First Kiss. They were all very satisfying to finish.

12. What fic was the most difficult to write? Did you finish it?

MirrorMASH. I have got to a point in that story where I know how it ends, and yet I am really struggling to write that ending - because when it's done, I shall never write MirrorHawkeye again.

But there was an idea for a story I thought of - "AfterMASH, only like the Golden Girls, Max and Charles and Francis sharing a house…" - and Honoria of course - and I wrote the opener for it, and then realised that I didn't see a way to write any more of it. I could see it in my mind's eye as an endlessly enjoyable TV series - but to write another word of it felt like climbing up the Cliffs of Insanity with Fezzik on my back and Inigo on his shoulders. It was like contemplating a land war in Asia. I just gave up.

13. What fic was the easiest to write?

Kirk and Spock's First Kiss. I wrote it at a writer's workshop at an online K/S con, and the story just unpacked itself into dialogue.

14. What were your shortest and longest fics this year?

Kirk and Spock's First Kiss is the shortest - a perfect drabble of 100 words. All We Know is the longest - 261,000 words in the current document, 143,314 words published on AO3.

15. Rec a fic you wrote or posted in 2023

I'm very pleased with M*A*S*H goes to Pride - thinking through what each of our surviving friends from MASH 4077th would do at the world's first Pride March in New York City in 1970, and whether I think they are LGBT or ally or neither.

16. What were you go-to writing songs?

I was writing the first draft of Christmas in Maine (just posted on Christmas Day) in the middle of a really, really hot August (for Scotland), and I played a list of Christmas carols over and over. I was then writing a chapter from Sister Maria Angelica's point of view and I made a playlist of Christian religious music. Otherwise, usually Leonard Cohen, Janis Ian, Willie Nelson, Tracy Chapman, Johnny Cash, k. d. lang, and so on.

17. What were your go-to writing snacks?

Cashew nuts.

18. What was the hardest fic to title?

Well - All We Know. I'd been calling it "Virtues and Sins" til May, til I realised that if I was going to post the opening chapter in two months time, I really, really had to think of a proper title.

19. Share your favorite opening line

""What do you pray for?" Hawkeye asks: not every time, but often. And when he doesn't ask, he looks: he stares at Mulcahy's rosary sometimes as if he hated it."

20. Share your favorite ending line

"First and foremost: Francis J. P. Mulcahy, formerly chaplain 4077th MASH: without you, this book would not have been written, and without you, I would not have been here to tell it."

21. Share your favorite piece of dialogue

"Doctor Pierce - debauched him?" "It does seem unlikely, doesn't it?" Charles said. "But then whatever else Pierce lacked, it was not persistence or audacity. Good God, did he know the Irishman could write like this? How?"

22. Share an excerpt from your favorite scene

After a moment, Mulcahy laughed. He sounded more tired than amused. "All right," he said. "Should I move this chair?" He got up. Hawkeye caught him by the arm as he was about the pick up his own chair. "Let me." he said. "I know just where it has to be." He moved the chair around, where the light from the central lamp would be falling at the right angle on Mulcahy's head, and waved Mulcahy to sit down again. All Hawkeye had time for, that morning, was to check that there was no indication of a concussion, and no broken bones. He meant to give Mulcahy a haircut, but he wanted to check his scalp for cuts or bruises. "And what can I do for you, sir? Pompadour, bouffant, some stylish Victory rolls?" Hawkeye was gently combing Mulcahy's hair out with his fingers. "Perhaps a little scalp massage?"

23. Share the final version of a sentence or paragraph you struggled with. What about it was challenging? Are you happy with how it turned out?

Winchester folded his hands in front of him. He looked calmer. He also looked pompous, and embarrassed. "It appears I owe you an apology." "Thank you," Mulcahy said, after a moment's effort. "I didn't intend to say anything to upset you. I'm sorry. Is Hawkeye all right?"

It may not look very difficult, but the whole passage of Charles Emerson Winchester and Francis Mulcahy talking in Charles's study in December (in All We Know) was hugely difficult and very painful to rewrite and rewrite and rewrite. I was so hugely on Francis's side that I was having difficulty seeing Charles's side. I am very happy with how it eventually turned out. Jakrar is a wonderful person to work through a story with.

24. What’s something that surprised you while you were working on a fic? Did it change the story?

While writing the final September section of All We Know, back in February, I realised something about Charles Emerson Winchester's son, Charles Emerson Winchester Jr, that I genuinely had not realised previously, and while it didn't change the story much, it did affect it. (Our Charles's father and grandfather are dead at the time All We Know opens, so CEW III has lost his ordinal number and his son CEW is Junior.)

25. What did you use to write? (e.g. writing programs, paper & pen, etc.)

I use LibreOffice on a Windows 10 desktop. I can and do write on my laptop if I have to, but my favourite place to write is at my desk in the little room with the window that looks out only on the sky, facing the wall. I take notes on Notepad.

26. If you had to choose one, what was THE most satisfying writing moment of your year?

"Please don't worry," Mulcahy said. "We can find our own way out."

27. Did you do anything special to celebrate finishing a fic?

No.

28. How did you recharge between fics?

29. If this were an awards show, who would you thank?

I would thank my demonic proofreader Jakrar, who is enabling me to keep writing this story in the best demonic style, Ajay, who has been my closest fannish friend for getting on for forty years, and @rescue-ram whose fabulous pro-Trapper comments (and fic) make me very, very happy. Also, for ideas presented to me in 2022 and 2023 that I stole without conscience and used ruthlessly in my own words in 2023: FaustianSlip for Not A Second Time, @allcanonisrelative for Every time, I think of you, @yeats-infection for What the Thunder Said, and also Crystalrose and @topshelf2112-blog for their very different but quite illuminating takes on Charles Emerson Winchester in particular and his relationship with Hawkeye Pierce, which was not something I'd thought much about before I started planning All We Know.

30. What’s something that you want to write in 2024?

I want to finish All We Know and Rosary and Nurse Doctor and MirrorMASH and I would quite like to write a few more episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer's gay foster dads. And I look forward to getting more ideas for something new.

4. Vid you're proudest of?

Well, I'll give a quick shout out to Rose Bride My World, which was @tafadhali's answer to this question, as well as Inhuman Illusory Soul Fusion Magic, which are definitely both strong contenders for me. But my personal answer for this one has to be Rain in Derry. It's the most ambitious vid I've ever made and took me the longest to make by far. It incorporates clips from the It miniseries, both movies, and 7 other visual sources that are either movies referenced in the book, or just things I thought I could use to visually represent scenes from the book that aren't in either adaptation. In addition to the visual sources, I also used clips from the audiobook, and whooo boy, let me tell you, picking out quotes I wanted to use, finding those quotes in the audiobook, figuring out how to get the audio of just those quotes into a format I could use in premiere, editing them down to fit within the song's instrumental breaks and have a nice rhythm with the music, and mixing the sound so it all sounded nice and coherent was a project and a half (but also a total blast and I'd do it all again). Aside from how ambitious the task was just in terms of the scope of media used, I also went for a visual style in this vid that was a bit outside my comfort zone, with not only really fast-paced editing, but also lots of overlay effects and masking to combine different clips. It was difficult both for me as an editor and for my computer, which had such a hard time processing all these overlaying clips that by the time I was about half-way done with the vid, I started needing to render or export sections of it any time I wanted to see what my work actually looked like! So yeah, definitely my most ambitious and challenging vid, and one for a source I'm deeply passionate about, so it's gotta be my proudest vidding accomplishment! (wow, that answer got long. oops. I just have a lot to say about this vid lol)

9. What are some fandoms and/or ships you'd like to vid for but haven't yet?

Ooh, let's see, there are so many. A few off the top of my head are...

Yellowjackets - Taf has now made several wonderful vids for this fandom and it seems like a blast to vid, but I don't have any specific ideas myself yet.

Hannibal - another one Taf has vidded, though in this case I have 3 ideas written down that I've had for years now and really just need to get around to making!

Black Sails - I have an idea for this one that I think will be a really nice compliment to my existing gay pirate vid.

A League of Their Own - I have an idea for this one, and it might not shock people who are familiar with my (or Taf's) work to know it's to a Postmodern Jukebox song lol.

Poor Things - my favorite movie of last year, and not something I have any specific ideas for, but think would be SO fun to vid because of both the rich visuals and themes.

9-1-1 - Taf and my newest obsession! I'd honestly love to do a character study of almost any main character, a Buck/Eddie vid, or a Buckley siblings vid for this one, but don't have any song ideas as of yet.

A whole bunch of sitcoms, but especially Schitt's Creek - I want to keep making progress on my BNL Sitcom Vids series, and I have no less than 40 ideas written down, 28 of which are for fandoms I've never vidded, and several of which have already been started, but have been on the back burner for a while. Anyway, I love me some sitcoms, and Schitt's Creek has to be one of my favorites, so once I finish the Good Place BNL vid I've had in the works for a while, that might be the next one on my list to tackle!

okay, hi, i have a few more thoughts i want to share on amnesia a machine for pigs

why did i say that. that was a reference i would only make with like one friend.

anyways, yeah, hi, this is nii, i was talking with a friend the other day about how i realized that gender terms are uh. confusing. with myself and dea. mostly it was starting off with me telling them that we both use "gay" as an umbrella term even though in headspace we're t4t transmasc nonbinary 4 genderfluid transfem (and i'm pan grey-ace and dea is demipan)

but then i realized we have some specific gender things that only apply because of kintypes and went "oh shit lmfao"

okay so like one of our main kins is uh

dea didn't really officially use she/her in that past life, and there are about 30 (unsure if accurate, ask again later) danganronpa kins in the system, so anyone from that life specifically is allowed to use varied gender terms on dea. alias basically started it by referring to us both as "boys" jokingly, but apparently this is fine.

I'm starting to think the androgynous look is actually thematical. From the interview with producer Kazuyuki Yamai, they mention that they want to work with a lot of "the world's current troubles". The lilies are symbols of purity but also femininity, a duality of meaning they already used with Gabriel in SMT2. The fusion piano solo is happening in front of a rather PROMINENT feminen symbol. It might be hopeful thinking, but that reads to me like there might be some gender themes.

People are really loving the androgynous look of this protagonist and it would be quite awesome if your ideas end up having merit.

But this is coming from a company whose games contain gay panic scenes, deadnamed trans characters, erased trans characters, and Maniacs Team's last mainline game even included an easily missed NPC who is either a crossdresser or transgender and is treated like a joke. So, the idea of Atlus having the deftness to pull this off seems suspect to me.

People still think the MC is a girl even though he was always intended to be male (a fact obvious to Japanese people I spoke with). That he and his Nahobino form are not overtly masculine is an obvious design choice but that doesn't necessarily mean intentional androgyny*. Consider that he fuses with another male entity to take on that form.

The Big Klave Fic Rec

Reginald Hargreeves does everything he can to learn about the Umbrella Academy’s powers, but Klaus is the one who finds out why they have their powers. No one expected the answer to be “we’re fallen angels” but here they all were. This is for my lovely @cemeteryklaus I hope you enjoy this! You will not run out of klave fics on my watch ;)

I have excessively been reading klave fics since s1 came out in February 2019, when there was only one page under the Klaus Hargreeves/Dave tag on ao3 (before our King shared his full name on Twitter). There are currently 2056 fics on ao3, and I can (un)fortunately say I have read almost all of them (what am I doing with my life?). Klave has been blessed with so many talented writers, so this is quite the list. Many of them have written more than one fic (some even over 50!), and since they are all amazing, it would take ages to list them all. Therefore, I have decided to recommend authors who have written two or more klave fics and linking to their the umbrella academy ao3 works page. Go read all of their works, and I can guarantee that every single fic is wonderful!
