I've probably talked about this before, but I'll say it again:

The banter between Astarion and Gale about "oh never felt the call of the divine" and Astarion going "I tried them all, none of them answered" is actually really sad and tragic when you stop and think about it. Why? Because for as much as the gods over Toril (where Faerun is) like to stick their fingers in people's business (as much as characters in game like to claim otherwise), the likelihood any of them -- and I do mean any of them -- would've come to Astarion's aid was pretty much zero.

Maybe even less than zero likelihood.

Most of the "good" or even "neutral" gods (and I use the alignments very loosely for explanation purposes) hate undead, and with being a vampire spawn, that category now includes Astarion. So they most likely would completely and totally ignore his prayers. The remainder that still fall under "good or neutral" that are chill with undead are like... Jergal, who genuinely normally doesn't interfere in mortal business. He's just here to write down who died. And then maybe some scattering of demigods not powerful enough (or powerful enough in the right ways) to really be of any use to Astarion.

Which leaves us with the "evil" gods, many of which are perfectly okay with undead and are often worshipped by them. Which there-in lies the problem. See, the only ones that would probably take time out of their day to hear Astarion's prayers are the ones that are probably high-fiving Cazador on a job well done, and pointing and laughing at Astarion for his plight. (Or, in the case of The Dead Three, too busy trying to take over Faerun. Again.)

Homeboy had no hope of the gods answering his prayers, no matter how hard he tried.

Though, I suppose you could argue that Tymora answered, given that the circumstances that lead to Tav meeting Astarion are all, well, incredibly lucky. It's debateable.

Astarion always joins Gale for breakfast. Because, like, of course he does. They sit and talk while Gale eats, and Astarion doesn't need to sleep as long as Gale does, so he's been awake for hours.

Gale gets up to take his dishes away to the kitchen. Astarion goes to sit down in Gale's study.

Tara arrives. She jumps up onto the end table next to the chair Astarion is sitting in.

"Astarion."

"Tara."

"You're still here, I see."

"You didn't get eaten by a manticore, I see."

Her hackles go up. His fingers clutch at the arm rest. They glare at each other.

Gale wanders in, carrying a tray of tea. "Tara! You're back, it's so good to see you. And it's wonderful that you and Astarion are getting on so well, as always."

"Of course we are, Mr Dekarios." She reaches out and places one paw gently, so gently, on the back of Astarion's hand.

He hisses, softly, between his teeth, because he feels claws digging ever-so-slowly into his skin.

I love the idea of Gale being totally oblivious to reader’s crush on him

How they’d spend hours together just reading at the library, book shopping, talking about a shared favorite subject, or sometimes both doing work or something else independently but enjoying the company of having one another near

How reader would remember little things about him, such as a favorite treat, and the next morning after a particularly rough day he’d see that favorite treat sitting on his desk with a little note inscribed “in hopes to cheer up my favorite Dekarios”

The way reader would smile softly at him, eyes practically gleaming as they listen to one of Gale’s stories

Or maybe how on a holiday or birthday, reader would gift him the exact book he’s been looking for- or maybe even the first edition of one of his favorites, and lights up when Gale raves about the gift to everyone he possibly can, making sure to give the reader the warmest happiest hug possible

The best part.. hear me out- would be that Gale is smitten with reader too. He’s never given it a chance because he hasn’t picked up on the (painfully obvious) clues, and assumes reader only views him as a friend.

It isn’t until one evening when the gang is together at the tavern that Astarion and Karlach tease Gale for staring at reader from across the way like a puppy.

“They’re quite remarkable, aren’t they?” Leaning slightly across the table to his friends with a smile and flushed cheeks. “Any man would be lucky to gain their affections. …Do you think I could?”

You just know that Karlach and Astarion would immediately (comically..) look at eachother in disbelief. Imagine the possible conversations that would follow informing Gale of how awfully oblivious he’s been.

John, oblivious: ....Have you never taken a shower before?

Gale, embarrassed:..... nevermind

Update: My BG3 tav has been friendzoned by almost everyone on camp, but without trying has wooed Gale. But it took Shadowheart to say he's been looking at him all night it the tiefling party to realize.

PS: Astarion said "urgh" to the thought of sex with my tav, and it hurt me on many levels
